The temple to the Sun God is in ruins. 00:00:01.40\00:00:03.86 Ruins, ruins, ruins, everywhere. 00:00:03.86\00:00:06.43 That was the life of Lydia also. 00:00:06.43\00:00:08.56 Her life was in ruins. 00:00:08.56\00:00:09.96 There was nothing in her life that was to be desired. 00:00:09.96\00:00:13.36 But then one day she found the true God. 00:00:13.36\00:00:16.40 She found Jesus Christ. 00:00:16.40\00:00:17.90 And now as a child of a king, 00:00:17.90\00:00:20.43 she has gone from rags to riches. 00:00:20.43\00:00:22.70 Stay tuned for rest of the story. 00:00:22.70\00:00:25.70 The City of Hierapolis which was founded on this site 00:01:09.43\00:01:12.46 in the second century B.C. 00:01:12.46\00:01:14.30 differs from all other ancient cities. 00:01:14.30\00:01:16.93 It was built not on earth or rock, 00:01:16.93\00:01:19.36 but on solid limestone layers formed by mineral water 00:01:19.36\00:01:22.66 that flowed for centuries over this raised level plateau. 00:01:22.66\00:01:28.10 We're in area called Pamukkale, 00:01:28.10\00:01:29.83 literally, cotton castle. 00:01:29.83\00:01:32.03 The water comes down, deposits the limestone over the cliffs. 00:01:32.03\00:01:35.53 It's so massive, so big, and so beautiful. 00:01:35.53\00:01:38.73 It's probably more than the area of concentrated limestone 00:01:38.73\00:01:41.73 in Yellowstone National Park. It's huge. 00:01:41.73\00:01:45.16 But this is also famous for healing. 00:01:45.16\00:01:47.43 People come from all over the world. 00:01:47.43\00:01:49.23 They did back in the Bible times. 00:01:49.23\00:01:51.20 Came from everywhere for healing, 00:01:51.20\00:01:52.90 for psoriasis, for skin troubles, 00:01:52.90\00:01:54.83 for internal troubles. 00:01:54.83\00:01:56.56 It seemed like whatever ailed them, 00:01:56.56\00:01:58.06 they thought this waters would heal them. 00:01:58.06\00:02:01.03 People come from all over the world 00:02:05.06\00:02:07.20 to enjoy the waters here at Hierapolis. 00:02:07.20\00:02:10.86 Feels very good. 00:02:10.86\00:02:12.83 It's also anciently connected with Laodicea 00:02:12.83\00:02:15.40 which I'm told is right over there 00:02:15.40\00:02:17.00 on the lower level of mountains. 00:02:17.00\00:02:19.90 But earthquakes, time apparently have diverted water 00:02:19.90\00:02:24.30 which no longer flows into that area. 00:02:24.30\00:02:27.10 These pumps were installed many centuries 00:02:29.56\00:02:32.40 past the third century B.C. 00:02:32.40\00:02:34.10 when people actually started living here. 00:02:34.10\00:02:36.73 The pool is spectacular. 00:02:36.73\00:02:38.30 The spring, gorgeous as the-- 00:02:38.30\00:02:39.80 the bubbles come up from the bottom. 00:02:39.80\00:02:42.20 I can even see a column, an old colonnade down in the pool. 00:02:42.20\00:02:46.30 Lydia is a Bible name. 00:02:59.06\00:03:00.96 Did your family name you for the biblical Lydia? 00:03:00.96\00:03:05.36 Speaking in foreign language 00:03:05.36\00:03:09.10 Well, my real name comes from Poland and it's Yasia. 00:03:09.10\00:03:13.40 Speaking in foreign language 00:03:13.40\00:03:15.73 But here in Ukrainian, they translated it to Lydia 00:03:15.73\00:03:19.70 just so it's easier to say. 00:03:19.70\00:03:22.06 Speaking in foreign language 00:03:22.06\00:03:25.80 That's very interesting. 00:03:25.80\00:03:27.20 Thank you for sharing that. 00:03:27.20\00:03:28.63 Tell me about your early life, 00:03:28.63\00:03:30.06 your childhood, if you don't mind. 00:03:30.06\00:03:32.33 Speaking in foreign language 00:03:32.33\00:03:35.93 I grew up in the village city of Chernobyl. 00:03:35.93\00:03:41.30 My family was separated so I lived in the boarding school. 00:03:41.30\00:03:46.60 Speaking in foreign language 00:03:46.60\00:03:49.93 My dad lived in Poland and my mother lived in Ukraine. 00:03:49.93\00:03:54.03 Speaking in foreign language 00:03:54.03\00:03:55.83 My childhood wasn't easy. 00:03:55.83\00:03:59.26 In America, if you go to boarding school 00:03:59.26\00:04:01.40 it means that you have money, 00:04:01.40\00:04:02.80 but I understand that's just the opposite with 00:04:02.80\00:04:05.16 what you're saying. 00:04:05.16\00:04:06.56 Speaking in foreign language 00:04:06.56\00:04:07.96 So did you have to pay or--at boarding school 00:04:07.96\00:04:09.86 or did you work or-- 00:04:09.86\00:04:11.26 Tell me how that worked out. 00:04:11.26\00:04:13.53 The government paid for it 00:04:13.53\00:04:15.23 because my mother was a handicap 00:04:15.23\00:04:17.90 and was suffering with tuberculosis. 00:04:17.90\00:04:21.46 So you had difficulties from many levels. 00:04:21.46\00:04:23.90 Mother an invalid, and--and father, 00:04:23.90\00:04:26.70 it was hard to get work, and several children 00:04:26.70\00:04:30.06 I guess in your family? Yes. 00:04:30.06\00:04:33.10 So as you got a little older, 00:04:33.10\00:04:34.73 how did you survive and what did you do? 00:04:34.73\00:04:37.20 Speaking in foreign language 00:04:37.20\00:04:39.60 My mother died very early. 00:04:39.60\00:04:41.70 I was only 16 years old. 00:04:41.70\00:04:45.03 Speaking in foreign language 00:04:45.03\00:04:47.96 So our father took care of us, 00:04:47.96\00:04:50.43 but he wasn't making enough to feed three kids. 00:04:50.43\00:04:53.90 Speaking in foreign language 00:04:53.90\00:04:55.30 So I had to drop out of seventh grade 00:04:55.30\00:04:58.33 and start working at a warehouse 00:04:58.33\00:05:01.16 to support my younger sister while she was going to school. 00:05:01.16\00:05:06.40 And then later on, what kind of jobs did you have? 00:05:06.40\00:05:09.80 Speaking in foreign language 00:05:09.80\00:05:11.40 I live in the same village. 00:05:11.40\00:05:13.53 I later got married. 00:05:13.53\00:05:15.36 We had two children. 00:05:15.36\00:05:17.13 The man was an alcoholic. 00:05:17.13\00:05:19.80 I decide to divorce him. 00:05:19.80\00:05:21.70 And then I live my life like that. 00:05:21.70\00:05:24.46 Did religion play a part in your family 00:05:24.46\00:05:27.20 at all, as you were growing up? 00:05:27.20\00:05:28.93 Speaking in foreign language 00:05:28.93\00:05:30.33 My mom told me stories about Christ. 00:05:30.33\00:05:33.73 Speaking in foreign language 00:05:33.73\00:05:35.86 So that's how the seed of God got planted in me. 00:05:35.86\00:05:40.30 Speaking in foreign language 00:05:40.30\00:05:41.90 You say it was a small part. 00:05:41.90\00:05:44.40 Did you look for God at all, or you were so busy working, 00:05:44.40\00:05:48.30 you didn't have time for God? 00:05:48.30\00:05:50.10 Speaking in foreign language 00:05:50.10\00:05:55.80 I prayed. 00:05:55.80\00:05:57.20 Speaking in foreign language 00:05:57.20\00:06:03.10 I was always looking for God, because life was so hard. 00:06:03.10\00:06:07.73 Speaking in foreign language 00:06:07.73\00:06:10.86 Did you attend church? 00:06:13.80\00:06:15.63 Speaking in foreign language 00:06:15.63\00:06:19.00 I started going to an Orthodox Church 00:06:19.00\00:06:22.16 in our village. 00:06:22.16\00:06:24.13 Tell me about those experiences. 00:06:24.13\00:06:25.80 Did they help you in your life? 00:06:25.80\00:06:28.20 Speaking in foreign language 00:06:28.20\00:06:31.06 God did help me, but during that time I didn't notice it. 00:06:31.06\00:06:36.16 Speaking in foreign language 00:06:36.16\00:06:40.00 And when I went to church, I didn't understand much. 00:06:43.26\00:06:47.30 Speaking in foreign language 00:06:47.30\00:06:50.90 So our viewers realize or know this, 00:06:50.90\00:06:55.06 they actually do everything in some ancient language, right? 00:06:55.06\00:06:58.83 So the worshippers really don't know 00:06:58.83\00:07:01.53 what's happening in many times? 00:07:01.53\00:07:03.50 I didn't understand anything. 00:07:03.50\00:07:06.40 Hierapolis can mean Sacred City. 00:07:10.93\00:07:13.30 And according to Stephanus of Byzantium, 00:07:13.30\00:07:15.86 the city was given this name 00:07:15.86\00:07:17.40 because of the large number of temples it contained. 00:07:17.40\00:07:20.43 Up to the reign of Augustus, 00:07:20.43\00:07:22.03 the city was officially described 00:07:22.03\00:07:23.63 on coins as Hierapolis, the City of Temples. 00:07:23.63\00:07:27.00 In the middle of the second century B.C., 00:07:36.53\00:07:38.83 the Seleucians founded the City of Laodicea, 00:07:38.83\00:07:41.56 just across the valley from Hierapolis. 00:07:41.56\00:07:44.23 It seems unlikely 00:07:44.23\00:07:45.63 that they would establish a second city 00:07:45.63\00:07:47.60 in such close proximity to an already existing one. 00:07:47.60\00:07:51.53 It is reasonable to assume 00:07:51.53\00:07:53.00 that Hierapolis was not in existence 00:07:53.00\00:07:54.90 until the last quarter of the second century B.C. 00:07:54.90\00:07:58.50 Later records are chiefly concerned 00:08:03.23\00:08:05.10 with a series of earthquakes. 00:08:05.10\00:08:06.93 The city was devastated by an earthquake 00:08:06.93\00:08:09.26 which took place in 17 A.D., 00:08:09.26\00:08:11.40 during the reign of Tiberius, 00:08:11.40\00:08:13.36 but the most severe of all the earthquakes 00:08:13.36\00:08:15.46 occurred in 60 A.D., 00:08:15.46\00:08:17.40 during the reign of Nero. 00:08:17.40\00:08:20.30 The present appearance of the city 00:08:20.30\00:08:21.86 probably results from the reconstruction 00:08:21.86\00:08:24.10 after this earthquake. 00:08:24.10\00:08:26.70 Earthquakes made a drastic change 00:08:26.70\00:08:28.40 in the temple area here, 00:08:28.40\00:08:30.40 but the power of God made a mighty change 00:08:30.40\00:08:32.90 in the life of Lydia. 00:08:32.90\00:08:34.30 Stay tuned to find out how. 00:08:34.30\00:08:37.56 Here is another story of hope from Adventist World Radio. 00:08:37.56\00:08:42.10 Tong hated his life, always on edge. 00:08:42.10\00:08:45.53 He often found himself angry at the actions of others. 00:08:45.53\00:08:48.86 "I lived under the control of people's words," he says. 00:08:48.86\00:08:52.10 The anger and hopelessness led Tong to wonder 00:08:52.10\00:08:55.16 if anyone would miss him if he killed himself. 00:08:55.16\00:08:58.33 A classmate suggested Tong tune in to Adventist World Radio. 00:08:58.33\00:09:02.20 Listening that night, 00:09:02.20\00:09:03.60 Tong heard for the first time of a God 00:09:03.60\00:09:05.63 who loved him unconditionally. 00:09:05.63\00:09:07.96 "That night I got back my life," he says. 00:09:07.96\00:09:11.23 Tong knows there are many others like him in China 00:09:11.23\00:09:14.23 living in hopelessness, 00:09:14.23\00:09:15.66 believing that no one loves them. 00:09:15.66\00:09:17.76 "I pray they find God soon," he says. 00:09:17.76\00:09:20.60 Jesus will help them to leave the world of sin. 00:09:20.60\00:09:24.16 Adventist World Radio shares the hope of Christ 00:09:26.40\00:09:30.16 with millions of people everyday. 00:09:30.16\00:09:32.80 For more information visit awr.org. 00:09:32.80\00:09:37.40 The city received the much coveted title of Neokoros 00:09:41.03\00:09:44.53 from the Emperor Caracalla. 00:09:44.53\00:09:46.90 This accorded the city certain administrative privileges 00:09:46.90\00:09:50.00 as well as the right of sanctuary. 00:09:50.00\00:09:53.06 Apollo, the chief god of Hierapolis 00:09:53.06\00:09:55.26 was identified with the Phrygian sun God Lairbenus. 00:09:55.26\00:09:58.73 The many deities and temples in the city included 00:09:58.73\00:10:01.33 a number of temples to foreign deities 00:10:01.33\00:10:03.90 such as the Ephesian god Artemis. 00:10:03.90\00:10:06.73 Of the purely Greek gods, the most important was Poseidon, 00:10:06.73\00:10:10.20 who was responsible for earthquakes, 00:10:10.20\00:10:12.33 and Pluto Hades, the God of the underworld. 00:10:12.33\00:10:15.26 The importance of these gods 00:10:15.26\00:10:16.66 can be explained by the frequency of earthquakes 00:10:16.66\00:10:19.23 in the region and the underground gas 00:10:19.23\00:10:21.53 and water containing various minerals and compounds 00:10:21.53\00:10:24.66 which was a characteristic of the region. 00:10:24.66\00:10:28.36 It was through these features 00:10:28.36\00:10:29.76 that Hierapolis won fame in ancient times. 00:10:29.76\00:10:32.43 Various writers of the period 00:10:32.43\00:10:34.13 dwelt on the interesting phenomenon 00:10:34.13\00:10:35.90 known as the Plutonium. 00:10:35.90\00:10:37.93 I'm on the temple stairs of the God Apollo. 00:10:39.50\00:10:43.56 Apollo was known, at least in this area, 00:10:43.56\00:10:45.80 as the god of the sun. 00:10:45.80\00:10:47.83 I say at least in this area, 00:10:47.83\00:10:49.26 because in different places, in different geographic locations 00:10:49.26\00:10:53.06 that tends to change. 00:10:53.06\00:10:54.90 Tamos in one area is the god of the sun. 00:10:54.90\00:10:57.63 In Egypt, Ra, the god of the sun. 00:10:57.63\00:11:01.36 But in this area, the priest for the god of the sun 00:11:01.36\00:11:05.13 had a very interesting way to prove 00:11:05.13\00:11:07.33 that they were really holy, 00:11:07.33\00:11:09.30 that they were really those sent by the sun god 00:11:09.30\00:11:12.56 to minister in this temple. 00:11:12.56\00:11:14.53 They would walk into this location. 00:11:16.50\00:11:18.56 It's since been rolled over 00:11:18.56\00:11:20.20 because it is a dangerous location, 00:11:20.20\00:11:22.00 apparently there are gases. 00:11:22.00\00:11:23.93 They listed here as plutonium. 00:11:23.93\00:11:26.66 Pluto, the god of the underworld. 00:11:26.66\00:11:29.90 The priests would enter into the god of the underworld 00:11:29.90\00:11:32.83 and they would take with them a caged bird. 00:11:32.83\00:11:35.53 They would drop down in this area. 00:11:35.53\00:11:37.96 Hold their breath only people didn't realized 00:11:37.96\00:11:40.06 that they hold their breath for a while 00:11:40.06\00:11:41.46 and the bird would die because there's toxic gases down there. 00:11:41.46\00:11:45.30 I'm told that they could even get cows and different animals 00:11:45.30\00:11:48.93 down there with the priest and again the priest would-- 00:11:48.93\00:11:52.00 knew how to hold his breath, and soon the animal die, 00:11:52.00\00:11:55.40 but the priest would emerge unscathed, 00:11:55.40\00:11:58.33 therefore showing that he was truly holy 00:11:58.33\00:12:01.26 and sent from the sun god. 00:12:01.26\00:12:03.33 Something changed in your life. 00:12:07.26\00:12:09.20 Would you mind sharing that? 00:12:09.20\00:12:11.30 Speaking in foreign language 00:12:11.30\00:12:13.00 Yes, my life changed. 00:12:13.00\00:12:14.86 Speaking in foreign language 00:12:14.86\00:12:17.43 I started loving people. 00:12:17.43\00:12:19.36 Speaking in foreign language 00:12:19.36\00:12:23.96 I was in a stress everyday over others. 00:12:23.96\00:12:27.43 Speaking in foreign language 00:12:27.43\00:12:31.10 How did that happen? 00:12:31.10\00:12:33.00 Speaking in foreign language 00:12:33.00\00:12:37.63 When the U.S.S.R. fell apart, 00:12:37.63\00:12:39.73 my husband left to Moscow for work. 00:12:39.73\00:12:42.53 This was my second husband. 00:12:42.53\00:12:46.43 He bought me a Bible. 00:12:46.43\00:12:48.66 Speaking in foreign language 00:12:48.66\00:12:51.30 I started reading it, but a lot of the script 00:12:54.70\00:12:58.16 didn't make sense to me. 00:12:58.16\00:13:00.53 Why did he buy you that Bible? 00:13:00.53\00:13:02.96 Speaking in foreign language 00:13:02.96\00:13:06.66 We listen to the radio together. 00:13:06.66\00:13:09.00 And during our younger years, 00:13:09.00\00:13:11.20 we were both introduced to Christ. 00:13:11.20\00:13:13.73 Speaking in foreign language 00:13:13.73\00:13:17.03 So we both grew an interest for it. 00:13:20.20\00:13:23.90 Speaking in foreign language 00:13:23.90\00:13:26.53 Was this the A.W.R. program you began listening to on radio? 00:13:26.53\00:13:30.16 Speaking in foreign language 00:13:30.16\00:13:31.56 No, this was all mix, Orthodox, Catholic and so on. 00:13:31.56\00:13:36.10 It was a big mix of different things, 00:13:36.10\00:13:39.46 but I just noticed the word of God as they spoke. 00:13:39.46\00:13:44.60 So the Holy Spirit was working in your heart? 00:13:44.60\00:13:47.13 Speaking in foreign language 00:13:47.13\00:13:48.53 Yes, yes. 00:13:48.53\00:13:49.93 It did it for my husband, made us extremely happy. 00:13:49.93\00:13:54.13 Once you had the Bible in your hands, 00:13:54.13\00:13:56.66 what did it mean to you? 00:13:56.66\00:13:58.30 What happened in your life? Speaking in foreign language 00:13:58.30\00:14:01.03 We didn't have a collection. 00:14:01.03\00:14:03.10 We read the Bible, but we didn't understand it. 00:14:03.10\00:14:07.00 No one tried to explain it to me. 00:14:07.00\00:14:09.46 So later I went to a Baptist Church 00:14:09.46\00:14:11.90 to gain more knowledge for better explanations. 00:14:11.90\00:14:16.23 Speaking in foreign language 00:14:16.23\00:14:19.40 Talking to God didn't work 00:14:23.26\00:14:25.53 and asking questions at church seemed pointless, 00:14:25.53\00:14:29.40 because it seemed like he didn't know the right answer either. 00:14:29.40\00:14:34.13 I was getting curious why the Bible talk about Saturday, 00:14:34.13\00:14:38.66 but here we are celebrating Sunday. 00:14:38.66\00:14:41.20 And I always ask myself that question. 00:14:41.20\00:14:44.20 Speaking in foreign language 00:14:44.20\00:14:46.13 So on your own you studied the Bible 00:14:46.13\00:14:48.00 and you found the question Sunday and Sabbath, 00:14:48.00\00:14:50.60 so you asked the pastor, that's what happened? 00:14:50.60\00:14:52.93 Speaking in foreign language 00:14:52.93\00:14:54.33 Yes, yes, it was like that. 00:14:54.33\00:14:57.36 Speaking in foreign language 00:14:57.36\00:15:01.86 The Baptist told me that Jesus Christ cancelled Saturday. 00:15:01.86\00:15:05.96 Speaking in foreign language 00:15:05.96\00:15:09.00 I told them that this couldn't be true, 00:15:11.06\00:15:13.80 I looked everywhere. There was no way. 00:15:13.80\00:15:16.73 Speaking in foreign language 00:15:16.73\00:15:21.10 Tell me more-- 00:15:21.10\00:15:22.50 Speaking in foreign language 00:15:22.50\00:15:25.43 I couldn't. Speaking in foreign language 00:15:27.16\00:15:29.00 They told me I was incorrect. 00:15:38.13\00:15:41.26 Speaking in foreign language 00:15:41.26\00:15:44.26 I went to a different church, but they didn't help me either. 00:15:47.50\00:15:52.10 Speaking in foreign language 00:15:52.10\00:15:55.10 My husband and I found there is a hope on the radio. 00:15:58.70\00:16:02.50 Speaking in foreign language 00:16:02.50\00:16:05.60 And we start listening. 00:16:07.70\00:16:09.90 Speaking in foreign language 00:16:09.90\00:16:13.46 And they fill my heart with hope. 00:16:20.90\00:16:24.20 Speaking in foreign language 00:16:24.20\00:16:27.56 So you wrote a letter to the A.W.R. studio? 00:16:29.60\00:16:32.46 Tell me more. 00:16:32.46\00:16:33.86 Speaking in foreign language 00:16:33.86\00:16:36.70 We had a written letter. They were asking 00:16:40.00\00:16:42.93 if they would like to stay in contact. 00:16:42.93\00:16:46.70 Speaking in foreign language 00:16:46.70\00:16:49.76 So we start doing homework at home 00:16:59.40\00:17:02.50 and sending all our questions to them. 00:17:02.50\00:17:05.00 Speaking in foreign language 00:17:05.00\00:17:07.00 And what was the answer to the questions? 00:17:07.00\00:17:08.70 Was there a main question burning in your heart 00:17:08.70\00:17:11.10 that was answered? 00:17:11.10\00:17:12.70 Speaking in foreign language 00:17:12.70\00:17:14.83 Yes, that's correct. 00:17:14.83\00:17:16.90 Speaking in foreign language 00:17:16.90\00:17:20.76 Then they give us a local Adventist Church. 00:17:20.76\00:17:24.30 Speaking in foreign language 00:17:24.30\00:17:26.90 But first a pastor came to our home. 00:17:26.90\00:17:29.93 He was nice and very direct. 00:17:29.93\00:17:32.03 Speaking in foreign language 00:17:32.03\00:17:35.46 We ended up going to that Adventist Church 00:17:35.46\00:17:38.50 and we actually got baptized there. 00:17:38.50\00:17:41.63 Various athletic and musical competitions 00:17:44.20\00:17:46.50 were held in Hierapolis as in other ancient cities. 00:17:46.50\00:17:50.60 Under the Empire, crowds flocked to Olympic, 00:17:50.60\00:17:52.80 Phyrian and Actian games similar to those in Greece. 00:17:52.80\00:17:57.10 Strangely enough, there is no trace of a stadium in the city, 00:17:57.10\00:18:00.80 and it is generally thought that the stadium 00:18:00.80\00:18:03.16 must have been located on the level plain below. 00:18:03.16\00:18:07.00 Gladiatorial combats and wild beast shows 00:18:07.00\00:18:09.60 were held in the theatre. 00:18:09.60\00:18:12.50 But Hierapolis was not only 00:18:12.50\00:18:14.30 a centre of excursions and entertainment. 00:18:14.30\00:18:17.10 The city's wealth and importance stemmed 00:18:17.10\00:18:18.90 from the many and varied industrial establishments 00:18:18.90\00:18:21.30 to be found there. 00:18:21.30\00:18:22.90 The inscriptions refer not only to institutions 00:18:22.90\00:18:25.80 such as the wool industry cooperative, 00:18:25.80\00:18:28.16 but also to guilds formed by the dyers, 00:18:28.16\00:18:30.83 fullers, carpet weavers, nail manufacturers, and coppersmiths. 00:18:30.83\00:18:35.33 These were all associated with fully organized institutions 00:18:35.33\00:18:39.46 that were also responsible 00:18:39.46\00:18:40.86 for the care of their member's graves. 00:18:40.86\00:18:43.50 This was the ancient walkway 00:18:48.03\00:18:49.43 that goes to the market out in behind me. 00:18:49.43\00:18:52.76 I'm told in this area even perhaps the Apostle Paul came 00:18:52.76\00:18:55.93 because he had arthritis. 00:18:55.93\00:18:58.33 He may have gone to those pools over there 00:18:58.33\00:19:01.13 and bathed for a while to take care of those old bones. 00:19:01.13\00:19:04.10 But this area is very famous because of its trade roots, 00:19:04.10\00:19:07.23 textiles, its marble quarries and also for its black wool. 00:19:07.23\00:19:13.30 It's an area that was made popular for the bathing, 00:19:13.30\00:19:16.46 for--for many things here. 00:19:16.46\00:19:18.46 Through the radio waves of A.W.R., 00:19:18.46\00:19:20.43 God is reaching people around the world. 00:19:20.43\00:19:24.26 exactly how long or what he did. 00:20:27.33\00:20:29.86 But again, we do know what he did. 00:20:29.86\00:20:32.33 He apparently witnessed for his faith in Jesus Christ, 00:20:32.33\00:20:34.83 because up on that hill he was crucified. 00:20:34.83\00:20:38.40 We're told that he was actually crucified 00:20:38.40\00:20:40.86 like the Apostle Peter. 00:20:40.86\00:20:42.80 Peter, you see, requested that he was not worthy 00:20:42.80\00:20:46.23 to be crucified like his Lord. 00:20:46.23\00:20:47.90 So he asked to be crucified upside down. 00:20:47.90\00:20:50.63 And that's what we're told was the request of Philip. 00:20:50.63\00:20:54.30 Some people may not realize it, 00:20:56.20\00:20:58.13 but there are two important people in the New Testament 00:20:58.13\00:21:00.50 with the name of Philip, not just one. 00:21:00.50\00:21:03.93 Philip the Evangelist, 00:21:03.93\00:21:05.33 and Philip the Apostle. That's right, 00:21:05.33\00:21:07.56 they are not the same person. 00:21:07.56\00:21:09.83 Philip the Evangelist, was one of the seven deacons 00:21:09.83\00:21:12.80 chosen to serve the fledgling church. 00:21:12.80\00:21:15.33 It was this Philip who baptized the Ethiopian in the river 00:21:15.33\00:21:18.60 and was then spirited away to another location by the Lord. 00:21:18.60\00:21:23.00 Jesus found the other Philip in Galilee and said to him, 00:21:23.00\00:21:26.30 "Follow me." He answered that call 00:21:26.30\00:21:29.16 and although in temperament 00:21:29.16\00:21:31.23 he was very close to doubting Thomas. 00:21:31.23\00:21:33.80 He apparently gained faith and courage 00:21:33.80\00:21:35.63 to proclaim the gospel with power, 00:21:35.63\00:21:37.96 because tradition holds that through a miraculous healing 00:21:37.96\00:21:41.50 and his preaching, Philip converted the wife 00:21:41.50\00:21:44.10 of the proconsul of the city. 00:21:44.10\00:21:46.26 This enraged the proconsul, and he had Philip 00:21:46.26\00:21:48.56 and his companions tortured. 00:21:48.56\00:21:50.80 Philip and Bartholomew were then crucified upside down, 00:21:50.80\00:21:54.70 and Philip preached from his cross. 00:21:54.70\00:21:57.23 As a result of his preaching 00:21:57.23\00:21:58.70 the crowd released Bartholomew from his cross, 00:21:58.70\00:22:01.10 but Philip insisted that they not release him, 00:22:01.10\00:22:04.46 and he died on the cross. 00:22:04.46\00:22:06.60 His remains were later placed in Constantinople, 00:22:06.60\00:22:09.63 were they were transported to Cyprus 00:22:09.63\00:22:11.43 after the conquest of the City in 1204. 00:22:11.43\00:22:17.03 Finally in 1219, there was a devastating earthquake 00:22:17.03\00:22:20.13 and Hierapolis was never reconstructed. 00:22:20.13\00:22:22.86 It was gradually abandoned. 00:22:22.86\00:22:24.80 So God led you step by step from a little girl 00:22:27.50\00:22:30.26 to--to think about God to one church, then another church, 00:22:30.26\00:22:35.10 and really another church, and finally the A.W.R. program, 00:22:35.10\00:22:39.06 and now you're a happy person and you're baptized. 00:22:39.06\00:22:41.80 Is that a good summation? 00:22:41.80\00:22:44.10 Speaking in foreign language 00:22:44.10\00:22:46.36 Yes, of course, I'm very happy. 00:22:46.36\00:22:49.73 And I want people to find Him like I found God. 00:22:49.73\00:22:53.26 Speaking in foreign language 00:22:53.26\00:22:57.96 If your heart is leading to Him, follow your heart. 00:22:57.96\00:23:01.73 Speaking in foreign language 00:23:01.73\00:23:08.16 Don't just look at what people are doing. 00:23:08.16\00:23:11.43 Find your own answers in the Bible. 00:23:11.43\00:23:14.80 Speaking in foreign language 00:23:14.80\00:23:16.70 This is the church that we were always looking for. 00:23:16.70\00:23:20.60 Speaking in foreign language 00:23:20.60\00:23:24.03 We found our church. 00:23:24.03\00:23:25.66 It brought joy to my heart. 00:23:25.66\00:23:28.36 Do you tell anybody else about Jesus Christ? 00:23:28.36\00:23:31.36 Do you share that or do you share A.W.R. with anyone? 00:23:31.36\00:23:34.53 Speaking in foreign language 00:23:34.53\00:23:37.03 Of course, you can't keep this feeling in. 00:23:40.16\00:23:42.86 Speaking in foreign language 00:23:42.86\00:23:47.20 Your mind wants to tell everyone. 00:23:47.20\00:23:50.06 Speaking in foreign language 00:23:50.06\00:23:56.23 Right now you have an opportunity to tell people 00:23:56.23\00:23:58.66 perhaps in many, many places 00:23:58.66\00:24:01.46 that are going through the things you went through, 00:24:01.46\00:24:03.60 that aren't finding happiness, 00:24:03.60\00:24:05.23 that aren't finding a relationship. 00:24:05.23\00:24:08.33 What would you tell them right now? 00:24:08.33\00:24:10.10 Speaking in foreign language 00:24:10.10\00:24:14.76 My advice is to keep walking forward, 00:24:14.76\00:24:17.83 because the devil won't let you save your soul. 00:24:17.83\00:24:21.13 Speaking in foreign language 00:24:21.13\00:24:24.83 But keep pushing and God will open the door, invite you in. 00:24:24.83\00:24:29.23 Speaking in foreign language 00:24:29.23\00:24:31.06 Lydia, it seems like you've had a very hard life, 00:24:31.06\00:24:34.23 but God has brought you tremendous happiness. 00:24:34.23\00:24:37.03 Do you look forward to going home? 00:24:37.03\00:24:39.10 Speaking in foreign language 00:24:39.10\00:24:41.56 Of course, I don't keep my treasures here on earth. 00:24:41.56\00:24:45.76 Speaking in foreign language 00:24:45.76\00:24:51.20 Because I was always poor, 00:24:51.20\00:24:53.43 but I hold all my treasures in heaven. 00:24:53.43\00:24:57.26 Speaking in foreign language 00:24:57.26\00:24:59.10 Lydia, thank you for sharing. 00:24:59.10\00:25:00.50 I appreciate it so much. 00:25:00.50\00:25:02.00 Look forward to being with you in heaven. 00:25:02.00\00:25:03.70 Speaking in foreign language 00:25:03.70\00:25:05.10 Thank you, because He can see all this 00:25:05.10\00:25:07.63 and He knows everything. 00:25:07.63\00:25:10.10 And I'm glad I've got to talk with you now 00:25:10.10\00:25:12.70 before our-- before we get to heaven. 00:25:12.70\00:25:14.46 Speaking in foreign language 00:25:14.46\00:25:15.86 Thank you.
