00:01 Today's journey is exciting
00:03 because we're going to explore healing. 00:04 Healing? Yes, healing. 00:06 Discover with me the love and the power of God to heal 00:09 as we traverse ancient land 00:11 seeking stories of miracles. 00:12 We're going from Israel to Ukraine, so hang on. 00:47 One of the greatest ministries of Jesus 00:49 was that of physical healing. 00:51 In order to reach the hearts and the minds of the people 00:54 with the most important news of eternal life, 00:57 Jesus would relieve them of their physical suffering. 01:00 We caught up to one person in Capernaum. 01:02 Well, we didn't actually catch up to him, 01:04 but we were able to find his footprints sort to speak. 01:10 This synagogue is built over the site of the original one 01:13 that the Roman Centurion 01:14 had given funds for here in Capernaum. 01:17 This is why the Jewish elders had 01:19 recommended his needs to Jesus. 01:21 You see, he had a servant who needed healing. 01:24 So he's asking Jesus to please help my servant. 01:27 Jesus immediately started to go with him. 01:29 Centurion said, "No, you don't even need to go." 01:31 He says, "I'm man in authority, 01:33 I say to one man to go and he goes, 01:35 and I say to another to come, and he comes. 01:37 All you need to do is speak the word." 01:40 Well, Jesus said, "I've not seen so great faith 01:43 in all of Israel, be it done." 01:46 And at that moment his servant was healed. 01:53 Mihail, it's good to meet you. 01:55 Foreign Language 01:58 Tell me a little bit about yourself. 02:01 Tell me, where were you born? 02:03 Foreign Language 02:07 I'm Mihail MIrgorodsky. 02:08 I was born in 1945, 02:11 Sumskaya region, City of Akhtyrka. 02:14 Now tell me you're, you told me as soon as I, 02:17 I saw you just a little earlier, 02:18 the first thing you said, 02:19 although I hadn't officially met you was you're a boxer. 02:22 Foreign Language 02:27 Yes, I was a champion of my city, Akhtyrka, 02:30 but later I left and attended Kiev Medical Institute, 02:34 but then later became the young champion of Kiev 02:36 in 1965 at 67 kilo weight class. 02:40 Foreign Language 02:43 So you're a big man. 02:45 Foreign Language 02:47 I was a doctor, I played sports, 02:49 I watch myself because the doctor is 02:51 supposed to be healthy, 02:52 and I believe that every human should be healthy. 02:56 How many fights did you have in order to become a champion? 02:59 Foreign Language 03:04 The Olympics were around the same time, 03:06 so according to how many people joined the competition, 03:09 I had to fight three fights. 03:10 Foreign Language 03:16 Then on a fight before and the last fight. 03:20 And then I became the champion. 03:24 This was in Kiev, well before that 03:26 I was training for numerous years, 03:28 and before that I was also a champion 03:30 in my home City of Akhtyrka. 03:33 Did you go to the Olympics? 03:35 Foreign Language 03:39 No, I decided to have my last fight, why? 03:43 Because I wanted to be a doctor. 03:45 Foreign Language 03:49 Boxing was more of a hobby. 03:51 I wanted to be a boxing champion 03:53 and I wasn't till I turned 44, 03:55 then for a short period of time, 03:57 I worked as a trainer. 03:58 Foreign Language 04:14 Standing here in the ancient ruins of Beth-Shan. 04:17 It's one of the ten cities of Decapolis. 04:19 Probably the most important city. 04:22 It was in the area of Decapolis 04:23 where Jesus met the demoniac, 04:26 met I say because he came running out of the tombs 04:29 with chains on his hand, he'd been cutting himself, 04:31 he's bleeding all over, 04:33 it seems nothing could control him. 04:35 I know that's actually the way it is with sin, 04:37 a good representation, 04:39 nothing could shackle and nothing could hold him. 04:41 He'd been cutting himself, bleeding, 04:43 and now as he comes up to Jesus, 04:45 all the disciples run back because they're scared of him, 04:47 but they turn and where's Jesus, 04:49 He's standing there. 04:51 The demoniac is there at His feet. 04:54 Jesus looks at him and He can read his heart. 04:57 The demoniac can't even speak anything 04:58 except utterings from the demons, 05:02 it's the first and only time it's recorded that Jesus 05:05 entered into any kind of conversation with the demons. 05:09 They said, "We're legion." 05:11 Well, legion was a huge number of demons. 05:14 But in a moment, Jesus cast them all out into 05:17 a herd of swine which ran over a cliff and in the instance, 05:22 the disciples or Jesus, we don't know exactly who 05:24 took off some of their clothing and clothed this man. 05:27 And now he's in his right mind, 05:29 he's whole and he's looking in the face of Jesus Christ. 05:33 What a moment that must have been. 05:36 Now he wanted to follow Jesus, he wanted to go with Him, 05:39 in the boat across the Sea of Galilee, 05:40 but Jesus said, "No, stay, here and witness for me, 05:44 be my witness here." 05:46 Well, the next time that Jesus came back, 05:48 the whole city ran out to meet him and greet him. 05:51 And I'm sure that many at that time 05:53 gave their hearts to Jesus. 06:00 As you can see AWR is frontline mission radio. 06:04 Our first priority is to travel where missionaries cannot go. 06:08 We broadcast World Radio. 07:04 Kalu Ram was a poor field laborer near Gujarat in India. 07:08 Finding his work tedious, 07:10 Kalu purchased a small radio to relieve the boredom. 07:13 One day, he came across a program talking about Jesus, 07:16 it was from Adventist World Radio. 07:19 After listening for a few days, 07:20 Kalu looked for a pastor 07:22 who could tell him more about Christ. 07:24 Soon convinced of the Christian truth, 07:26 Kalu was baptized and became an outreach leader 07:30 in his hometown and the surrounding area. 07:32 Witnessing in predominantly Hindu towns is not always safe 07:36 and Kalu was once attacked 07:38 when approaching a town to preach. 07:40 However, through the efforts of Kalu 07:42 and the volunteers he has trained, 07:44 nearly 1,000 people have accepted Christ. 07:48 Adventist World Radio shares the hope of Christ 07:52 with millions of people everyday. 07:55 For more information visit awr.org. 08:02 While we were at the seaside town of Capernaum, 08:06 we were inspired by many biblical healings. 08:21 Right behind me is the beautiful Sea of Galilee, 08:24 standing here in Capernaum. 08:26 These are some of the old houses that were here, 08:29 I'm told at the time of Jesus. 08:31 I just think about it, 08:32 imagine Jesus walking through these streets. 08:34 We're told that He spent a lot of time here, 08:36 they even called it the home of Jesus. 08:40 Think about it, the Creator God of the Universe 08:43 walking these streets and healing everyone 08:46 He came in contact with. 08:48 I've been in India many times 08:50 and throngs tend to come around you from every side 08:52 because they want some kind of help. 08:55 The very little help we have is not much, but Jesus, 08:58 why Jesus broke up every funeral he ever attended. 09:01 Imagine Jesus going into hospital in your town 09:05 and as he walked out, 09:06 every single person would come out rejoicing with Him. 09:09 Not a sick person left. 09:11 That's what happened as Jesus went from town to town, 09:13 area to area and here in Capernaum also. 09:19 So you're in medical school. 09:21 Tell me a little more about that. 09:23 Foreign Language 09:26 In 1964, I moved to Kiev, 09:29 lived here in the city and attended the institute. 09:32 Foreign Language 09:37 In 1970, I finished my doctor's degree. 09:40 With that degree, they send me 09:41 as a military doctor to Kukas, City of Belize. 09:45 Foreign Language 09:50 So you were an officer in the Russian Army? 09:52 Foreign Language 09:58 Yes, it was mandatory for every doctor to serve 10:01 as a military doctor for two years. 10:03 After that, we have the right to establish 10:05 a business anywhere we wanted. 10:08 In 1972, I started working on a tuberculosis division, 10:12 and I worked in that division 10:13 from 1972 till this present day. 10:16 Foreign Language 10:19 Our areas connected very well with America 10:22 on the studies and cares for tuberculosis. 10:24 Foreign Language 10:27 So really most of your years 10:29 as a professional has been in the area of tuberculosis? 10:32 Foreign Language 10:38 Yes, I work in that division 10:40 and for the past couple of years, 10:41 we partnered up with America to fight against tuberculosis. 10:45 America dispatches a new method of curing 10:48 and then they mail us the medicine. 10:50 We do this as partners because it's a worldwide crisis. 10:54 America helped us and is helping us now 10:57 with the fight against tuberculosis. 11:01 What do you see as your greatest progress 11:03 in the area of tuberculosis here in the country? 11:05 Foreign Language 11:13 I can give you an example of the number of people 11:15 who are seeking help for tuberculosis. 11:18 We have records for how many people are in 11:20 need of treatment for every 100,000. 11:23 Foreign Language 11:36 Right now in Ukraine, 11:37 it stopped at 82 for every 100,000 people. 11:40 In Russia, it stopped at 150. 11:43 Afghanistan and China 230. 11:46 In the western countries, 11:48 we only have two to ten for every hundred thousand. 11:50 Foreign Language 11:59 There was no way that we can share 12:01 all of the wonderful biblical accounts 12:03 of healing by our Lord, 12:04 but there are two more events that stand out. 12:08 One involved a family member of one of his disciples. 12:11 As a matter of fact, let's look at his home. 12:16 I'm actually here at the home of Simon Peter. 12:19 The smaller area inside here, 12:20 the outer walls however are Octagonal, 12:23 until that was a later church that was built over 12:26 the home of Simon Peter. 12:27 Octagonal because you see that represents the eight day. 12:31 What's the eight day you ask? 12:33 Well, the seventh day was the Sabbath. 12:34 The eight day was when Jesus rose they say, 12:37 so in commemoration, they built eight sided churches. 12:41 But the home of Simon Peter, 12:43 this is where Jesus entered that home, 12:45 his mother-in-law had a fever. 12:47 Jesus sent everybody outside 12:48 and he healed his mother-in-law. 12:51 Imagine right there, a healing by Jesus Christ. 12:57 Now tell me, doctor, you've been a communist, 13:01 a championship boxer, 13:03 and a medical professional for most of your life. 13:07 Share with me about your religious times in life. 13:10 What happened in religion in your life? 13:14 Foreign Language 13:19 Studying at the institution and prior to that, 13:21 I believed in Christ. 13:23 Foreign Language 13:34 During my studies at the university, 13:36 we didn't have the right to speak our mind, why? 13:39 Back then, for example in 1970, 13:42 a classmate of mine who was about to graduate 13:44 didn't receive his diploma because he mentioned 13:47 during the finals that he believed in Christ. 13:49 Foreign Language 14:07 All of Kiev remembers a day when Vasily Pavlyuk 14:10 didn't receive his diploma. 14:13 And majority of the people said, 14:15 he was an idiot for opening his mouth. 14:18 We had different believers, 14:19 but most of us kept it to ourselves. 14:25 So there was real persecution at that time for your beliefs. 14:29 Foreign Language 14:38 Even in 1985, if a person was found with a pocket calendar 14:42 that had strong Bible verses on the back of each page 14:45 was automatically kicked out of school or work. 14:47 Foreign Language 14:59 How did that made you feel personally 15:01 as a medical student, your classmate is gone, 15:06 but you have beliefs? 15:08 What was going through your heart? 15:09 Foreign Language 15:17 I later asked a teacher, 15:19 is it right for them to not give Vasily a degree. 15:23 Even though he scored higher than any other student. 15:25 Foreign Language 15:38 He said, "Yes, because we believe that medicine 15:41 and religion should not be mixed." 15:43 Foreign Language 16:10 But you're a physician, you made it through 16:13 and you also started some type of belief, 16:16 continue on and tell me how did you, 16:18 how did you open up to God? 16:19 Foreign Language 16:27 And later the time came when I started listening 16:30 to Christian Broadcasting over television. 16:32 Foreign Language 16:42 After watching them over my television, 16:44 I started writing to them, 16:46 then I started their Bible courses. 16:48 Foreign Language 17:05 They came to my house to observe my living conditions 17:08 and spent time with me. 17:10 They noticed that I wasn't pulling out 17:12 a bottle of vodka nor was I smoker. 17:14 Foreign Language 17:35 They then directed me to a church 17:37 where I began my pre-baptism courses. 17:40 Later I was baptized 17:41 and I still have my pictures from my baptism. 17:44 Foreign Language 18:19 I want to say that I got baptized 18:21 on the 24th of August, 2003. 18:25 This was a mix of three special events. 18:27 One, it was my baptism day. 18:30 Two, it was the birthday of the pastor who baptized me. 18:33 Three, it was on the independence day of Ukraine. 18:37 Big celebration day for you, then. 18:40 And for many others. 18:42 Through the radio waves of AWR, 18:44 God is reaching people around the world. 18:48 We'd like you to offer you an edition of making waves. 18:51 It's four of our request offer number 10. 19:37 That number again is 1-866-503-3531. 19:45 Here is another story of hope from Adventist World Radio. 19:49 Juan lay wide awake in his dark jail cell. 19:54 A Chinese man imprisoned in Thailand. 19:56 He had no family or friends to visit him. 19:59 Recently, Juan had begun to listening 20:02 to the programs of Adventist World Radio. 20:04 The message of God's love 20:06 and forgiveness had so much appeal to him 20:08 because he had plenty to be forgiven off. 20:11 Forced to become a child soldier in Burma when just 13. 20:15 Juan had committed many terrible sins. 20:18 He escaped into Thailand, but quickly wound up in jail. 20:22 Now alone in his cell. 20:25 Juan had ample time to wonder, 20:27 would God really forgive him? 20:32 Adventist World Radio shares the hope of Christ 20:36 with millions of people everyday 20:39 in their own languages. 20:40 For more information visit awr.org. 20:46 We discovered the location of today's final story 20:48 of healing and restoration back in Jerusalem 20:51 at an ancient pool. 20:53 Imagine yourself in the setting. 20:57 I'm here at the Pool of Bethesda. 21:00 This is the place where Jesus met the man 21:02 who have been paralyzed for 38 years. 21:05 Jesus said, "Rise, take up your bed, and walk." 21:08 And a favorite book of mine, 21:09 the Desire of Ages says that, 21:11 in that moment that man grabbed a hold of Jesus' words 21:15 and he was energized, his body was energized 21:17 and he jumped up and he rejoiced 21:19 in the salvation of freedom in Christ. 21:22 The man he didn't even know. 21:24 Who was this man? He was the Creator God. 21:27 And now this man rejoiced and he walked, 21:29 and he jumped and he ran all the way to the temple. 21:33 What an exciting story? What an exciting God? 21:39 Later on, Jesus met the man in the temple. 21:42 The perfect place to go when you're thanking God 21:45 for what He's done for you. 21:50 The Pool of Bethesda has a long history. 21:53 Predating the time of Jesus by a great deal. 21:57 The story goes at an angel would come and stir up 22:00 the water for those that were sick, 22:02 lying all around the porticoes here 22:04 and the first one that made it in the water 22:05 would be the one who was healed. 22:07 Only problem with that is, 22:09 only the healthy would be able to make it to the water. 22:12 No one else could. 22:14 Later on, past the time of Jesus now up into the 1800s, 22:19 the Ottoman Empire controlled this area 22:21 and they actually gave it to Napoleon as a gift in 1856, 22:25 because he helped them with the Crimean War. 22:28 Tell me, let's go back a moment to that first radio program, 22:33 that first AWR Program, you turned the dial, 22:35 you heard the radio, why did you respond, 22:38 why did you send in a letter? 22:40 Foreign Language 22:45 I realized that the time has come 22:47 for the society to notice Christ 22:48 and was ready to speak about Him 22:50 without any kind of punishment. 22:52 Foreign Language 23:04 I decided that this was my chance to act 23:07 and have the opportunity to share opinions 23:09 and read the gospel with many others. 23:11 Foreign Language 23:26 Majority of the patients aren't Christian. 23:28 And I can see how their lives could be changed with Christ, 23:32 because following Christ 23:33 and following the Ten Commandments 23:34 will keep you from the unhealthy lifestyle. 23:37 Foreign Language 23:47 So now you worked with the great physician 23:49 and the great healer for your patients. 23:51 Foreign Language 23:54 I received a lot of non-Christian patients 23:57 and I always give them advice in medicine 23:59 and give them opinions on things, 24:01 and that's where I decided 24:02 to tell them a little about Christ. 24:05 I tell them that they need to follow Christ 24:07 because a doctor plus God can help. 24:09 Only if that's what you want. 24:11 Work became a lot easier because I'm not alone 24:14 in front of these patients. 24:15 I've God on my side. 24:17 If you never heard the AWR Program, 24:20 how would your life be different? 24:22 Foreign Language 24:25 If I didn't hear the radio, I would have dropped this job, 24:28 left these sick people. 24:29 Most of them are criminals anyway. 24:32 I would have reached my retirement, left my job, 24:35 and lived on the dacha, why? 24:37 Because working here is very hard and for little pay. 24:40 A lot of doctors leave, 24:42 especially the ones working in the tuberculosis field. 24:46 Foreign Language 24:50 I actually left the medical field, 24:52 but thanks to my religion I returned to tuberculosis 24:55 and continued working happily. 24:58 Foreign Language 25:03 Women are the majority of the membership of many churches. 25:07 In Russia as well as other parts of the world, 25:10 but today our story is about a man. 25:13 Dr. Mihail, a man's man, a champion boxer, 25:18 educated, a physician, and yet he can say, 25:22 "My God and I work together." 25:25 In the work of healing, 25:26 in bringing people to a better life. 25:29 Today, I want to talk to our men who are viewing. 25:34 Jesus wants men to follow Him as well. 25:38 He asked Peter, the fisherman, big, strong, 25:41 burly guy whose house is just a short distance 25:44 away from here in Capernaum. 25:47 And He asked Peter to follow Him, 25:49 and Peter became one of the leaders of Jesus group. 25:53 The Centurion who lived here in Capernaum, 25:57 whose servant Jesus healed, 25:59 without even going to his house, 26:02 had a faith in God and He built this synagogue 26:05 so that people could worship 26:07 and God's name could be glorified. 26:10 It's possible to be a Christian and believe 26:14 and yet be educated and logical, 26:17 it's possible to be strong and yet gentle. 26:21 Faith, you see involves another whole reality of life, 26:26 another world. 26:27 In the Book of Second Corinthians, 26:29 it says, "The things that are seen are temporary, 26:32 but the things that are unseen are eternal." 26:35 Don't reject a whole another reality of our lives. 26:40 I invite you today to accept Jesus as your Savior. 26:45 Women and men can become followers of Jesus. 26:49 I hope you will make that decision today 26:52 and help AWR to bring many more people to the master. 27:00 We're here today at the Sea of Galilee 27:01 and the City of Capernaum, 27:03 but AWR is actually around the world at the same time. 27:06 We broadcast thousands of hours each day. 27:09 If you'd like to help us spread the gospel 27:11 and the message of Jesus Christ around the world, 27:13 give us a call, 1-866-503-3531 27:18 or you can write us at 12501, 27:21 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, Maryland, 27:24 20904 or you can log on to our website www.awr.org. 27:32 Thank you for watching and please, 27:33 join us again for another exciting gospel adventure, 27:36 because around the world AWR is making waves. |
