Children serving in West Africa, 00:00:18.98\00:00:21.15 a Global Mission pioneer in Botswana, 00:00:21.18\00:00:23.72 and the sights and sounds of Singapore, 00:00:23.75\00:00:26.05 all this and much more coming up next. 00:00:26.09\00:00:28.52 Hello and welcome to Mission 360 00:01:11.53\00:01:13.44 coming to you from the country of Singapore. 00:01:13.47\00:01:15.87 I'm Gary Krause. 00:01:15.90\00:01:17.61 Today, we're going to be looking at Singapore 00:01:17.64\00:01:19.51 which is a remarkably diverse area 00:01:19.54\00:01:21.54 in such a small space. 00:01:21.58\00:01:23.81 In fact, Singapore is contained 00:01:23.85\00:01:25.48 within less than 500 square kilometers. 00:01:25.51\00:01:28.92 And it's full of skyscrapers, 00:01:28.95\00:01:30.82 modern buildings, old buildings, 00:01:30.85\00:01:33.25 but what is less known is that 00:01:33.29\00:01:35.06 there is a lot of green space in Singapore. 00:01:35.09\00:01:37.39 In fact, 00:01:37.43\00:01:38.76 nearly half of Singapore is under green cover. 00:01:38.79\00:01:42.13 The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve alone 00:01:42.16\00:01:44.73 which takes up one hectare, 00:01:44.77\00:01:47.17 is said to have more tree species 00:01:47.20\00:01:49.90 contained within that one nature reserve 00:01:49.94\00:01:52.14 than in the entire space of North America, 00:01:52.17\00:01:54.94 which is quite incredible. 00:01:54.98\00:01:56.34 We'll be looking at more here in Singapore, 00:01:56.38\00:01:58.65 but first up, let's travel to West Africa. 00:01:58.68\00:02:02.65 Emmanuel wanted to annoy 13-year-old Aggee 00:02:02.68\00:02:05.52 during a break between French and physics classes 00:02:05.55\00:02:08.32 at the Seventh-day Adventist school in Libreville, Gabon. 00:02:08.36\00:02:11.63 He knew that Aggee had a short temper, 00:02:11.66\00:02:13.63 so he started saying mean things. 00:02:13.66\00:02:15.86 Annoyed, Aggee immediately slapped the boy on the cheek. 00:02:15.90\00:02:19.10 Emmanuel didn't like being slapped, 00:02:19.13\00:02:20.80 and he slapped Aggee back. 00:02:20.84\00:02:22.77 Now Aggee was furious. 00:02:22.80\00:02:24.61 He punched Emmanuel. 00:02:24.64\00:02:26.24 Children crowded around the fighting boys. 00:02:26.27\00:02:28.64 "Don't stop!" they yelled. 00:02:28.68\00:02:30.15 "Let them fight!" 00:02:30.18\00:02:31.51 A teacher's assistant came running, 00:02:31.55\00:02:33.11 causing the children to scatter to their seats. 00:02:33.15\00:02:35.58 He pulled them apart. 00:02:35.62\00:02:37.09 "Why are you fighting?" 00:02:37.12\00:02:38.95 "He was mean to me," Aggee said. 00:02:38.99\00:02:41.09 "He hit me," Emmanuel said. 00:02:41.12\00:02:42.72 "You shouldn't fight. 00:02:42.76\00:02:44.13 Fighting is for animals. 00:02:44.16\00:02:45.49 Apologize." 00:02:45.53\00:02:46.86 As punishment, 00:02:46.90\00:02:48.23 the boys had to spend two hours away 00:02:48.26\00:02:49.66 from the other children, 00:02:49.70\00:02:51.03 quietly thinking about what they had done. 00:02:51.07\00:02:53.34 It was a long two hours. 00:02:53.37\00:02:55.74 After some time, Aggee whispered to Emmanuel, 00:02:55.77\00:02:59.14 "Why were you mean to me?" 00:02:59.17\00:03:01.24 "I was only joking," 00:03:01.28\00:03:02.61 Emmanuel whispered back. 00:03:02.64\00:03:04.01 Aggee wished that he hadn't lost his temper. 00:03:04.05\00:03:07.18 That summer, 00:03:07.22\00:03:08.55 grandfather sent Aggee to a Pathfinder campout. 00:03:08.58\00:03:11.45 Aggee's Bible teacher also went to the campout, 00:03:11.49\00:03:14.02 and he spoke for morning and evening worship. 00:03:14.06\00:03:16.49 At the end of the three-week campout, 00:03:16.52\00:03:18.63 he asked whether any children 00:03:18.66\00:03:20.20 wanted to give their hearts to Jesus. 00:03:20.23\00:03:22.60 He told them how Jesus could change their hearts. 00:03:22.63\00:03:25.60 Instead of anger, 00:03:25.63\00:03:26.97 He could give them peace and love. 00:03:27.00\00:03:29.60 When Aggee heard that, he remembered his short temper. 00:03:29.64\00:03:32.91 He remembered how his temper led to fights 00:03:32.94\00:03:35.04 and made his parents unhappy. 00:03:35.08\00:03:36.91 He wanted to change, and he prayed, 00:03:36.95\00:03:39.11 "Lord, I want to follow You." 00:03:39.15\00:03:41.88 Then Aggee stood up and went to the front. 00:03:41.92\00:03:44.19 People were surprised to see him standing. 00:03:44.22\00:03:46.55 His Bible teacher was happy that he wanted to be baptized. 00:03:46.59\00:03:49.82 After baptism, 00:03:49.86\00:03:51.19 when Aggee came out of the river, 00:03:51.23\00:03:52.76 he felt the same as before. 00:03:52.79\00:03:54.63 He thought maybe something miraculous would've happened, 00:03:54.66\00:03:57.43 but everything still seemed normal. 00:03:57.47\00:03:59.77 But as the days passed, 00:03:59.80\00:04:01.17 he noticed that 00:04:01.20\00:04:02.54 he no longer enjoyed many things of the past. 00:04:02.57\00:04:04.84 His friends noticed that 00:04:04.87\00:04:06.21 he wasn't easily angered like before. 00:04:06.24\00:04:09.81 Just the other day, 00:04:09.84\00:04:11.18 Emmanuel brought some cakes to sell in class, 00:04:11.21\00:04:13.62 and Aggee didn't want to buy one. 00:04:13.65\00:04:15.55 "I don't want to buy anything today," 00:04:15.58\00:04:17.19 he said. 00:04:17.22\00:04:18.55 "I'm not feeling well." 00:04:18.59\00:04:19.92 "Come on, buy one." Emmanuel said. 00:04:19.95\00:04:21.86 "No, I can't," Aggee said. 00:04:21.89\00:04:24.19 Emmanuel's face twisted in anger, 00:04:24.23\00:04:26.19 and he slapped Aggee, 00:04:26.23\00:04:27.63 but Aggee didn't feel angry at all 00:04:27.66\00:04:29.66 and he quietly walked away. 00:04:29.70\00:04:31.77 He was so grateful that with Jesus' help, 00:04:31.80\00:04:34.60 his days of having a short temper were over. 00:04:34.64\00:04:37.41 Jesus was changing his heart. 00:04:37.44\00:04:40.44 In 2017, 00:04:40.48\00:04:42.11 part of the 13th Sabbath Offering helped 00:04:42.14\00:04:44.11 construct a high school for 280 students 00:04:44.15\00:04:47.18 in Aggee's hometown of Libreville, Gabon. 00:04:47.22\00:04:50.62 Thank you for helping change lives 00:04:50.65\00:04:52.85 through the 13th Sabbath Offering. 00:04:52.89\00:04:54.79 It makes a big difference. 00:04:54.82\00:04:58.76 My guest is Pastor Paul 00:04:58.79\00:05:00.36 who is ministering here in Singapore. 00:05:00.40\00:05:02.26 Pastor Paul, thank you so much for joining us. 00:05:02.30\00:05:04.67 Now you are from India. 00:05:04.70\00:05:06.40 Why are you working in Singapore? 00:05:06.43\00:05:08.50 The Singapore Adventist Conference invited me 00:05:08.54\00:05:10.84 to reach the migrant workers from India, in Singapore. 00:05:10.87\00:05:16.34 And they are about more than 200,000 of people. 00:05:16.38\00:05:21.42 They work in construction site, shipyard and all kinds of work. 00:05:21.45\00:05:26.52 They are captured 00:05:26.55\00:05:27.89 and they reside in the dormitories 00:05:27.92\00:05:29.59 and I go and reach them, 00:05:29.62\00:05:30.96 visit to them, do Bible studies, 00:05:30.99\00:05:32.33 small groups, and be friendly with them. 00:05:32.36\00:05:36.56 So more than 200,000 migrant workers from India 00:05:36.60\00:05:41.10 are involved in various types of work in Singapore. 00:05:41.14\00:05:44.74 Wow. 00:05:44.77\00:05:46.11 And most of them are housed in dormitories? 00:05:46.14\00:05:48.44 Yes. 00:05:48.48\00:05:49.81 And each dormitory might have maybe some 15 to 20, 000 people 00:05:49.84\00:05:55.62 in each dormitory. 00:05:55.65\00:05:57.09 They live there. 00:05:57.12\00:05:59.65 But they work here, they care for their families, 00:05:59.69\00:06:01.62 send money back home that's Adventist. 00:06:01.66\00:06:04.56 And these are people away from their home, 00:06:04.59\00:06:06.83 they seek for some kind of community, 00:06:06.86\00:06:08.73 love relationship, 00:06:08.76\00:06:10.10 somebody to ask them how are you? 00:06:10.13\00:06:11.90 What are you? 00:06:11.93\00:06:13.27 So it's an opportunity to reach them. 00:06:13.30\00:06:15.24 And they do respond. 00:06:15.27\00:06:16.60 Right. 00:06:16.64\00:06:17.97 So the Singapore leaders Adventist leaders 00:06:18.01\00:06:20.61 saw this people group 00:06:20.64\00:06:22.18 and said we needed someone to come and help reach them. 00:06:22.21\00:06:24.81 Wonderful. 00:06:24.85\00:06:26.18 So how did you begin 00:06:26.21\00:06:27.55 making contact with these people? 00:06:27.58\00:06:29.92 It is simply going to where they are. 00:06:29.95\00:06:33.52 Talk to them, sit with them, and chit-chat with them, 00:06:33.56\00:06:37.79 and begin to ask them about their families, 00:06:37.83\00:06:40.16 their work situations, and all those things, 00:06:40.20\00:06:42.60 then they feel, 00:06:42.63\00:06:43.97 oh, there's somebody to love and care for us. 00:06:44.00\00:06:46.03 And they open up 00:06:46.07\00:06:47.67 and we begin to 00:06:47.70\00:06:49.04 and I began to share with them the love of Christ 00:06:49.07\00:06:51.31 and open the Bible and share with them the truth. 00:06:51.34\00:06:55.18 They have responded to it. 00:06:55.21\00:06:57.68 They wanted to know more and more about it, 00:06:57.71\00:06:59.61 fell in love with the Bible. 00:06:59.65\00:07:01.48 And they participated in the small group. 00:07:01.52\00:07:04.35 And eventually, 00:07:04.39\00:07:06.49 many of them in the last 10 years 00:07:06.52\00:07:09.92 over 100 people been baptized into the Adventist Church. 00:07:09.96\00:07:14.46 Well, this is the first time that I've met you in person, 00:07:14.50\00:07:16.73 but I've seen you before in our Adventist Mission video. 00:07:16.77\00:07:20.47 And it was a story of how you had groups meeting 00:07:20.50\00:07:23.54 under the streetlights at night. 00:07:23.57\00:07:25.97 Beside the road, beside the busy road side. 00:07:26.01\00:07:28.84 Why were you meeting there? 00:07:28.88\00:07:30.68 That is the only available place quiet calm... 00:07:30.71\00:07:34.72 It wasn't quiet. 00:07:34.75\00:07:36.85 Traffic was going back. 00:07:36.89\00:07:38.75 But then nobody would disturb them. 00:07:38.79\00:07:40.16 Right.
