00:14 I'm Leigh Rice,
00:15 leader of Discipleship Ministries 00:16 for the South Pacific. 00:18 I'm in Port Moresby today 00:19 and excited to be with Pastor Kove Tau, 00:21 leader of the church in this city of 800,000 people. 00:27 Discovery Bible reading is at the heart of our disciple 00:30 making process. 00:32 Members invite family, friends, work colleagues, 00:35 fellow students to come together to read the Bible. 00:41 We ask Peter and Phil to come and do some training for us. 00:45 Peter has thought us the method of Jesus, 00:49 which is simple, anybody can do it. 00:53 It's reproducible at no cost. 00:59 We decided to restructure the way we do ministry 01:02 at our churches. 01:03 And we follow the model in the Book of Acts 01:06 out the New Testament Church grew. 01:09 With 10 of our Sabbath school classes 01:11 into discovery Bible reading groups, 01:15 we've restructured our church Sabbath school classes 01:18 according to the place where the members are living. 01:23 We bring the church to the houses 01:25 and the houses becomes church. 01:31 My name is Nathan, I got excited, 01:35 seeing the method in which, 01:37 we can share God's Word to others. 01:42 My head of that idea and we decided 01:44 that I had to bring that idea to my home. 01:47 Now this is where we meet every Sabbath. 01:54 When we started this discovery Bible reading with my family, 01:59 and my neighbors, it really had a big impact 02:04 on our spiritual life. 02:07 My family and my kids, all the three teenagers 02:12 were able to discuss the Bible for themselves. 02:15 And we were having fun with it. 02:22 Starting with the Gospel of Mark, 02:24 read one story at a time, 02:26 commencing with a prayer obviously, 02:28 second person reads it, 02:30 and then one person in the group 02:32 retells the story in their own words. 02:36 The process is built around five simple questions. 02:39 What is new? 02:40 What surprises? 02:42 What don't you understand? 02:43 What will you obey or apply to your life? 02:47 And what will you share with someone else this week? 02:50 After discussion, 02:51 we pray, Father, thank You for being with us. 02:53 Please help us as we follow Jesus this week. 02:57 I work for a large construction company 03:00 as a building supervisor. 03:03 After running that group in my home, 03:06 I decided to bring that idea to my workplace. 03:11 It had a very big impact on my boys. 03:20 I know an old blind man called Vinegar. 03:24 I found out he lived in a makeshift sort of house. 03:29 I had this idea of building a house. 03:33 I went and discussed that with my boys. 03:36 They got excited and their voluntary 03:38 put their hand up to help me. 03:42 I believe in Jesus my Savior. 03:45 I trust Him. 03:47 One day He will return I go with Him. 03:51 Every Sabbath is day two, three baptism in each churches. 03:56 By way of record this quarter, 03:58 this has been the biggest baptism ever 04:02 taken place in Central Public Conference. 04:04 I am seeing a paradigm shift in the way we do church. 04:08 Because the church is now seeing 04:09 that we have to bring the church 04:12 to where the community is. 04:18 God uses ordinary people 04:20 to carry out his extra ordinary plan. 04:38 Welcome back to Singapore and behind me 04:40 you can see this very impressive structure. 04:43 It's the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Exhibition Center. 04:47 Next up, we travel to Zambia 04:49 to visit a Global Mission pioneer. 04:52 Thanks. 04:53 I'm here with the Global Mission pioneer. 04:55 These are one of the fun people we like to meet. 04:56 I've traveled about 20 hours by plane. 04:59 Maybe close to four or five hours by car 05:02 to come to central location where we can meet. 05:05 Where the nearby church here, 05:06 it's the closest church to the area 05:08 where the pioneers working. 05:09 But my traveling here is nothing compared 05:11 to what he has had to do to get here. 05:15 Welcome. 05:16 Thanks so much for being with us. 05:19 Just to begin this interview, 05:21 what is a Global Mission pioneer? 05:23 As far as I'm concerned, a Global Mission pioneer is one 05:27 who goes in the areas 05:30 where we hear for no SDA presence, 05:33 to talk about Christ. 05:35 And there's a very important part 05:38 of a Global Mission pioneer, 05:39 which it is that you're here, you live locally, 05:42 you understand the culture, so you're the best person 05:45 to go reach your brothers and sisters? 05:48 You see this is the beauty. 05:50 What I would like to find out from you is what motivated you 05:53 to become a Global Mission pioneer? 05:57 When I saw that there were many people 06:00 who are not going to the SDA church, 06:06 I got encouraged to share with them the truth. 06:11 Especially, what I was reading from the Bible 06:14 it really encouraged me 06:18 to embark on this mission of sharing the good news. 06:23 What's the name of the region that you working in? 06:25 We call it Wurrumiyanga. 06:27 Wurrumiyanga. Yes. 06:29 And how far do you travel to reach Wurrumiyanga? 06:32 Sixty five. 06:35 Sixty five kilometer? Yes. 06:37 Do you go by foot or by bus? 06:40 I walk on foot. 06:42 And how long does that take you by foot? 06:45 It takes 12 hours. 06:46 Twelve hours? Yeah. 06:50 Do you have a family here locally that goes with you? 06:54 Yeah. 06:57 Does your family go with you? 07:00 So what I do, I leave the family, 07:05 I go and work alone. 07:09 But when it is rainy season because generally in this place 07:13 that's when we plant the corn. 07:16 So I'd come back to join the family 07:18 to help them in planting. 07:22 What are some of the methods 07:23 that you use to reach the people? 07:27 The method that I use, 07:31 I first go to the village headman 07:33 and ask for permission. 07:36 And when I'm given permission, 07:38 I will begin visiting families in that area. 07:42 So I'll go to this family, I'll speak to them, 07:46 share from the Word of God. 07:49 And oftentimes, they're very welcoming. 07:52 Then afterwards when I'm through 07:53 I'll go to another family again. 07:58 Do you find that people are usually receptive 08:00 to the message that you're bringing them? 08:04 Sometimes people accept, sometimes they do not. 08:10 But at the moment those who have already accepted 08:12 the message they are about 60. 08:15 That's a big number. 08:17 I imagine that it's not all success all the time. 08:21 Can you share with us some of the challenges 08:22 that you encounter in reaching the people. 08:27 The challenge that I face is that sometimes 08:34 I'm welcomed by the people, 08:36 sometimes they don't welcome me. 08:42 But it looks like these days it is becoming a bit easier 08:46 than it used to be. 08:51 Is this the first time that you work as a pioneer? 08:57 So I started in 2004 09:00 in a different area, 09:04 they also there was no church representation 09:07 I started the work there, until it grew to the level 09:11 where there were church elders 09:13 that's when I moved now 09:15 to a new area called Wurrumiyanga. 09:19 How do you feel when you go back 09:21 and you visit the church that you helped to build? 09:24 I feel very happy when I go to see that. 09:30 The current elders 09:32 they are really pushing the work forward 09:36 I feel very happy filled with joy. 09:40 Have you had a chance to maybe go back 09:43 and preach at the church that you helped establish? 09:47 So when I have time I go back 09:49 and they give me time to preach. 09:53 That must be really nice. 09:54 It must be a really heartwarming feeling. 09:56 Can you share with us in the new location 09:58 that you are some stories of success 10:01 that you've had in reaching the people, 10:02 maybe a conversion story that stood out? 10:05 Yes, I can share with you. 10:07 I would love to hear it. 10:08 In that area when I went there was one New Apostolic Church. 10:14 And also UCZ. 10:20 When I went to that area, the area where you only find 10:26 the New Apostolic Church 10:27 and the United Church of Zambia, UCZ, 10:37 I had one person who accepted the message first, only one. 10:44 Through that one person we started visiting together. 10:51 So the church started growing 10:54 until we built a grass at such church. 10:59 That's how the work is growing there. 11:07 You want to move your family there. 11:09 You said that you have 60 members 11:11 already in that location. 11:14 Now how much more work is there to do? 11:20 In that area there are about 15 village headmen. 11:25 But I have so far penetrated only one village headman. 11:30 So the reason why I want to move with my family 11:32 there to go and live among them 11:35 is also to take the message to these other village headmen. 11:42 So the work is nowhere being done yet, 11:45 there's still a lot more to do. 11:48 Is there a message that you could leave to the people 11:50 who have been praying for you as a pioneer? 11:52 And even the ones 11:53 who have supported this work financially? 11:58 Yes, I have a message to the donors. 12:02 The work they are doing is great. 12:05 Many people still want to hear the message like the area 12:09 where I'm working. 12:11 We only have penetrated one spot. 12:15 So we still have other spots to penetrate, 12:18 where there is no SDA presence. 12:22 So we really encourage them to continue supporting 12:25 the work of Global Mission pioneers. 12:31 It's clear that there's still a lot of work to be done. 12:34 It's clear that we need to pray more 12:37 for the work that you do 12:38 and many other pioneers around the world. 12:40 If you'd like to support 12:41 this ministry of pioneers like welcome. 12:44 This is projects that you can invest in, 12:46 you can choose them 12:48 specifically where you'd like to send your donation. 12:49 But most importantly, we encourage you to pray, 12:52 your prayers will go a long way your prayers can do miracles 12:55 that even financial support may not. 12:57 So we encourage you to do both. 12:58 Pray for us. 12:59 If you'd like to financially support 13:01 these projects, 13:02 you can go to administration.org. 13:04 Back to you in the studio. 13:21 Next up, we learn more about 13:22 the Adventist Development and Relief Agency initiative 13:25 called Every Child Everywhere In School. 13:37 This kind of project 13:39 was actually created by the government 13:40 because they need to scale up nutrition 13:42 and there is a need in Mozambique. 13:46 Right now, the chronic malnutrition rates 13:48 are really soaring. 13:50 They are above 40%. 13:52 And this is a generally across the country. 13:56 Although, there are certain places 13:57 where it's higher. 13:59 In Maputo also they discovered that it's above 30%, 14:03 which also includes districts like Boane. 14:05 So that's why we feel like it's important 14:09 that the students should get also part of the meal 14:11 because they might not be getting enough. 14:15 When we started we had our school 14:17 feeding funded by ADRA International. 14:21 The other part of the donation was through the food 14:24 that we are still receiving through Rise Against Hunger. 14:30 Being part of this project, they received rice, 14:32 the rice comes in a packet 14:34 with soy and dehydration vegetables. 14:37 And inside each packet, there is a multivitamin packet 14:40 within the food that we distribute. 14:43 So every time they get a ration size 14:46 which is almost equivalent to a 700 kilocalorie. 14:49 It's in supplement to what they get from home. 14:57 When we started the project, 14:58 we did some anthropometry 15:00 wherein we were weighing the height and the weight 15:02 of the students and we analyzed it. 15:04 And then we discovered that 50% of the students 15:06 were really underweight. 15:08 That was last year. 15:10 And we are going 15:11 to consequently weigh the students. 15:14 Right now, we designed a cohort 15:16 that we would follow up each month 15:18 so that we have concrete results 15:19 to see the changes that are okay. 15:23 What we have noted so far, 15:24 there's been an increase in the number of students. 15:27 We started with 9,366 15:29 right now we have 13,453 students. 15:33 And last year when we ended, we had 11,656 students. 16:02 Well, I hope you've enjoyed today's program, 16:04 and I hope that you've been challenged 16:07 by our 360 degree view of mission around the world. 16:11 We've traveled to Zambia 16:12 and visited a Global Mission pioneer, 16:14 and there are thousands of pioneers 16:16 working around the world today, 16:17 starting new groups of believers. 16:19 We've seen children in mission. 16:22 We've also seen the work of ADRA 16:24 in trying to get every child involved in education, 16:28 every child in school. 16:30 We've seen so many mission opportunities, 16:32 and we praise God for the wonderful things 16:33 that are happening around the world. 16:35 But of course, 16:36 there are still many mission challenges facing us, 16:39 I think of territory right here in the 10/40 window. 16:43 I think of the growing cities of the world. 16:45 I think of the secular and postmodern 16:47 with so many challenges, 16:48 but I want to thank you for the part 16:50 that you play in Adventist mission. 16:52 You might say, "How do I do that?" 16:53 Well, every time you pray for mission, 16:55 you're part of Adventist mission, 16:57 every time you give your donations 16:59 to Global Mission or your mission offerings, 17:01 you're supporting mission 17:02 and thank you for your personal involvement. 17:04 Well for Mission 360 I'm Gary Krause. 17:06 And I hope you can join me 17:08 right here on this program next time. |
