Spreading Sabbath Offering projects 00:00:19.98\00:00:21.72 in West Africa, children's ministries turns 25 00:00:21.75\00:00:26.15 and mission here in Paris. 00:00:26.19\00:00:28.29 All this and much more coming up next 00:00:28.32\00:00:30.56 on Mission 360. 00:00:30.59\00:00:31.93 Hello, and welcome to Mission 360. 00:01:16.84\00:01:18.84 I'm Gary Krause. 00:01:18.87\00:01:20.24 Today's program is coming to you from Paris, 00:01:20.28\00:01:22.61 the capital of France. 00:01:22.64\00:01:24.01 And behind me, of course, 00:01:24.05\00:01:25.55 you can see the iconic Eiffel Tower. 00:01:25.58\00:01:28.45 It was built in 1889 for the World's Fair 00:01:28.48\00:01:31.89 and funnily enough, many Parisians didn't like it. 00:01:31.92\00:01:35.36 Was considered ugly 00:01:35.39\00:01:36.73 and they wanted to get rid of it. 00:01:36.76\00:01:38.33 But, of course, since then, 00:01:38.36\00:01:39.79 the Eiffel Tower has been 00:01:39.83\00:01:41.60 one of the many attractions of Paris 00:01:41.63\00:01:44.67 that have brought millions and millions 00:01:44.70\00:01:46.03 of tourists to this city, 00:01:46.07\00:01:47.90 which of course was founded many years ago. 00:01:47.94\00:01:50.47 In fact, it's been the capital of France 00:01:50.51\00:01:52.31 for more than 1000 years. 00:01:52.34\00:01:54.04 Well, we're going to be looking more about 00:01:54.08\00:01:55.41 mission here in France. 00:01:55.44\00:01:56.78 But first up, let's travel to West Africa 00:01:56.81\00:01:58.78 to see your 13th Sabbath Offerings at work. 00:01:58.81\00:02:02.95 There was a silent killer in Yoryina's home. 00:02:02.98\00:02:06.22 Our family was eventually dying 00:02:06.25\00:02:10.76 because of our kitchen. 00:02:10.79\00:02:13.40 Because what was produced 00:02:13.43\00:02:14.86 from the kitchen was not healthy to the body. 00:02:14.90\00:02:18.07 It was slowly sapping the life and health of his family. 00:02:18.10\00:02:21.90 Yoryina and his wife got sick. 00:02:21.94\00:02:24.74 Yoryina was feeling worse every day. 00:02:24.77\00:02:27.41 He felt so sick that he thought about committing suicide. 00:02:27.44\00:02:30.65 That was until he discovered the silent killer 00:02:30.68\00:02:33.15 that was slowly taking away their health. 00:02:33.18\00:02:35.65 The type of food we were using was already damaged food, 00:02:35.68\00:02:40.46 overcooked and all that. 00:02:40.49\00:02:43.36 When I came across one 00:02:43.39\00:02:44.73 Seventh-day Adventist evangelist, 00:02:44.76\00:02:48.36 and I read through some of his literatures, 00:02:48.40\00:02:51.67 I discovered that I was living a very wrong life. 00:02:51.70\00:02:55.84 A ray of hope came when Yoryina 00:02:55.87\00:02:57.91 learned of a health seminar organized by 00:02:57.94\00:03:00.34 the nearby Adventist Church. 00:03:00.38\00:03:03.14 He asked his wife to go since he was feeling very sick. 00:03:03.18\00:03:09.55 After the meeting Yoryina's wife 00:03:09.58\00:03:11.92 came home equipped with newfound knowledge. 00:03:11.95\00:03:15.59 As she met me feeling bad. 00:03:15.62\00:03:17.96 She started applying water therapy on me straight. 00:03:17.99\00:03:22.30 What she learned there 00:03:22.33\00:03:23.67 she never knew had idea about that ever. 00:03:23.70\00:03:26.43 She applied the water therapy, 00:03:26.47\00:03:29.54 cold or hot water on me, covering me. 00:03:29.57\00:03:32.07 And before you know, I was sweating, 00:03:32.11\00:03:35.64 we started having a new lifestyle. 00:03:35.68\00:03:39.05 The lessons from the health seminar 00:03:39.08\00:03:40.82 had a tremendous impact on Yoryina and his wife. 00:03:40.85\00:03:44.35 Their yard which was once full of chickens is now empty. 00:03:44.39\00:03:48.29 In its place, Yoryina planted different types of medicinal 00:03:48.32\00:03:52.03 and health giving plants like Moringa and Aloe vera. 00:03:52.06\00:03:55.46 The plants are all around their house. 00:03:55.50\00:03:57.73 They also take advantage of fresh fruits and vegetables 00:03:57.77\00:04:00.67 which are abundant in Nigeria. 00:04:00.70\00:04:03.54 Yoryina is now living a healthy and happy life. 00:04:03.57\00:04:06.88 He and his wife are ambassadors 00:04:06.91\00:04:08.64 of the health message 00:04:08.68\00:04:10.01 teaching what they learned to anyone they can. 00:04:10.05\00:04:12.35 They started building a small space 00:04:12.38\00:04:14.08 in front of their house 00:04:14.12\00:04:15.45 where they can teach people about health and the Bible. 00:04:15.48\00:04:18.15 They've also used this space 00:04:18.19\00:04:19.59 to start a small Bible study group. 00:04:19.62\00:04:22.42 But Yoryina is just one man 00:04:22.46\00:04:24.66 and the city of Abuja has more than 3 million people, 00:04:24.69\00:04:28.06 people who would benefit 00:04:28.10\00:04:29.43 a lot from hearing the health message. 00:04:29.46\00:04:31.60 This quarter, your 13th Sabbath Offering 00:04:31.63\00:04:34.10 will help build a medical center there. 00:04:34.14\00:04:36.50 This center will help treat illnesses 00:04:36.54\00:04:38.91 and show people a better way to live. 00:04:38.94\00:04:41.58 I look forward to a medical center 00:04:41.61\00:04:46.51 that people will say that 00:04:46.55\00:04:49.08 there's a health facility 00:04:49.12\00:04:50.59 when you go there, all you see is love 00:04:50.62\00:04:53.42 within the health workers there. 00:04:53.46\00:04:55.79 There's a health facility that when you go there, 00:04:55.82\00:04:59.69 there's something else you receive 00:04:59.73\00:05:01.96 apart from the routine things, 00:05:02.00\00:05:04.07 routine services you see in other health facilities. 00:05:04.10\00:05:07.80 Please pray for the development of this health center 00:05:07.84\00:05:10.87 and for the other projects this quarter. 00:05:10.91\00:05:13.41 Thank you for supporting the 13th Sabbath Offering. 00:05:13.44\00:05:16.54 My guest is Pastor Ruben De Abreu, 00:05:48.14\00:05:50.51 who is the president 00:05:50.55\00:05:51.88 of the Franco-Belgian Conference. 00:05:51.91\00:05:53.78 And I'm glad that you can join us today, Ruben. 00:05:53.82\00:05:57.42 Can you describe for our viewers 00:05:57.45\00:05:59.42 the territories of your union? 00:05:59.45\00:06:02.06 So very large territory here in Europe 00:06:02.09\00:06:06.13 because it has 00:06:06.16\00:06:09.50 all the Continental France 00:06:09.53\00:06:13.40 and then Belgium and Luxembourg. 00:06:13.44\00:06:16.74 And for the moment we are around 00:06:16.77\00:06:20.74 18,000 members in this territory. 00:06:20.78\00:06:25.18 Now, traditionally, in our past history 00:06:25.21\00:06:28.78 Europe has been a sending territory 00:06:28.82\00:06:31.95 where you have sent 00:06:31.99\00:06:33.32 missionaries all over the world. 00:06:33.36\00:06:35.62 But I think it's fair to say 00:06:35.66\00:06:37.09 that your territory is now a mission field. 00:06:37.13\00:06:39.83 Can you describe 00:06:39.86\00:06:41.20 some of the challenges that you face? 00:06:41.23\00:06:44.17 It's everything that reverse. 00:06:44.20\00:06:48.40 Now in our times, 00:06:48.44\00:06:50.01 we are receiving the people from all over the world, 00:06:50.04\00:06:54.04 especially if I think about Paris and Brussels. 00:06:54.08\00:06:59.21 We have people from all corners of this world 00:06:59.25\00:07:04.79 and it creates us 00:07:04.82\00:07:07.82 very difficult challenge, the diversity. 00:07:07.86\00:07:10.19 Yes. 00:07:10.23\00:07:11.56 Diversity of language, culture, even theology. 00:07:11.59\00:07:16.23 And we... 00:07:16.26\00:07:17.60 Our challenge is to put everything in common 00:07:17.63\00:07:21.67 and bring everything to the feet of God. 00:07:21.70\00:07:25.31 Yes. 00:07:25.34\00:07:26.68 Now you are facing a culture 00:07:26.71\00:07:30.05 that has basically almost forgotten about God. 00:07:30.08\00:07:33.55 Describe for people, for example, here in Paris, 00:07:33.58\00:07:37.05 your average Parisian, 00:07:37.09\00:07:38.42 what would their view be on religious things? 00:07:38.45\00:07:41.26 Yeah, it's very peculiar because it's different 00:07:41.29\00:07:46.83 than the secularism in America or in other parts 00:07:46.86\00:07:51.90 because here, it's not only the ignorance about God, 00:07:51.93\00:07:56.97 but it's an attitude against God 00:07:57.01\00:07:59.81 and everything that is religious. 00:07:59.84\00:08:02.41 And also with the later events that we had here 00:08:02.44\00:08:07.72 with the terrorism attacks 00:08:07.75\00:08:11.25 and all of that related to religion problem, 00:08:11.29\00:08:14.69 people react very, very strongly. 00:08:14.72\00:08:17.19 And everything that is spiritual 00:08:17.23\00:08:19.49 or religious is understood 00:08:19.53\00:08:21.76 in this territory and particularly here in Paris 00:08:21.80\00:08:25.50 as an individual thing. 00:08:25.53\00:08:27.04 Yes. 00:08:27.07\00:08:28.40 It's not something that I can do publicly, 00:08:28.44\00:08:33.31 like in other parts and we need to do our mission 00:08:33.34\00:08:38.85 respecting the wishes of people. 00:08:38.88\00:08:41.02 Yes. 00:08:41.05\00:08:42.38 So in a place like Paris, so say for example, 00:08:42.42\00:08:44.85 you took an Adventist method of public evangelism, 00:08:44.89\00:08:48.66 you would attract people who perhaps come 00:08:48.69\00:08:51.43 from immigrant communities, 00:08:51.46\00:08:53.03 but you would not attract 00:08:53.06\00:08:55.30 a native Parisian, generally speaking? 00:08:55.33\00:08:58.27 Yeah. 00:08:58.30\00:09:00.50 We are facing that challenge 00:09:00.54\00:09:04.91 because a lot of people that are already here in 00:09:04.94\00:09:11.08 and in some churches they work with people 00:09:11.11\00:09:14.18 that they come from the same community. 00:09:14.22\00:09:15.88 Yes. 00:09:15.92\00:09:17.25 So, what we are remarking 00:09:17.29\00:09:20.29 is that the relationship evangelism, 00:09:20.32\00:09:23.19 it's sorted as the most powerful effect, 00:09:23.22\00:09:28.20 because people can put and question your own faith 00:09:28.23\00:09:34.60 and your own witness, or your own convictions 00:09:34.64\00:09:38.01 and everything that you do on relationship with other. 00:09:38.04\00:09:41.74 It's the simple method, 00:09:41.78\00:09:44.05 but it's also the one 00:09:44.08\00:09:46.38 that it's more efficient from the basis. 00:09:46.41\00:09:49.02 And it's also the method that Jesus Himself used. 00:09:49.05\00:09:51.25 Yes, and it's also becoming to the root. 00:09:51.29\00:09:55.26 Yes. 00:09:55.29\00:09:56.62 So, Ruben, tell me about some of the good things 00:09:56.66\00:09:58.73 that are happening here? 00:09:58.76\00:10:01.10 We are in a peculiar situation 00:10:01.13\00:10:07.07 because here in Paris, 00:10:07.10\00:10:08.87 we need more places for people to worship. 00:10:08.90\00:10:13.91 And we opened a worship place 00:10:13.94\00:10:19.21 and three months after it's, 00:10:19.25\00:10:21.58 it's already full with people that they come 00:10:21.62\00:10:23.89 from all over the city. 00:10:23.92\00:10:27.89 So it's one of the big things that are happening here. 00:10:27.92\00:10:33.43 But we are also developing a lot of communities, 00:10:33.46\00:10:37.60 ethnical communities, the last one, 00:10:37.63\00:10:40.47 it was Korean, South Korean 00:10:40.50\00:10:44.84 community that was organized it 00:10:44.87\00:10:47.51 and we had this last year in Paris 00:10:47.54\00:10:52.01 and around the North Conference outreach campaign. 00:10:52.05\00:10:56.48 And we are having now the baptisms 00:10:56.52\00:11:00.86 and all the people that convert after that effort. 00:11:00.89\00:11:06.39 Wonderful. 00:11:06.43\00:11:07.76 And what's happening 00:11:07.80\00:11:09.13 with the Bible Correspondence School? 00:11:09.16\00:11:11.17 Yeah, it's a very interesting challenge 00:11:11.20\00:11:14.24 because it's a shift of paradigm 00:11:14.27\00:11:17.87 because from other times, 00:11:17.91\00:11:21.38 it was on written on paper, hard paper. 00:11:21.41\00:11:24.71 Now people are asking more for the web. 00:11:24.75\00:11:30.25 And the challenge we are having now is that 00:11:30.29\00:11:34.02 when we ask for address and contacts, people, 00:11:34.06\00:11:37.69 they get behind the web. 00:11:37.73\00:11:42.06 And we are trying to develop this project 00:11:42.10\00:11:44.83 to give Bible studies by Skype 00:11:44.87\00:11:47.84 or this kind of communication technologies 00:11:47.87\00:11:53.14 that are available and it's cheap 00:11:53.17\00:11:56.51 and we are having now an increase of people 00:11:56.54\00:12:01.62 that have answered to the Bible courses more 00:12:01.65\00:12:07.12 on the web than with the hard paper. 00:12:07.16\00:12:09.82 Wonderful. 00:12:09.86\00:12:11.19 Well, I know that you have many challenges, 00:12:11.23\00:12:13.13 but I know that there are many good things 00:12:13.16\00:12:14.50 happening here. 00:12:14.53\00:12:15.86 I know you've got a strong youth emphasis, 00:12:15.90\00:12:17.67 church planting emphasis, 00:12:17.70\00:12:19.03 and thank you for all that you're doing. 00:12:19.07\00:12:20.40 And God bless you and thanks for sharing. 00:12:20.44\00:12:22.67 Viewers at home, please pray 00:12:22.70\00:12:24.24 for the mission field here in Europe. 00:12:24.27\00:12:27.08 Wonderful things happening, many challenges remaining. 00:12:27.11\00:12:29.51 We'll be right back after this break. 00:12:29.54\00:12:31.15
