00:07 A teenager sets a golden example in India.
00:11 The Adventist Development and Relief Agency 00:13 helps people in need 00:15 and another delicious tasty international vegetarian recipe 00:19 from the Mission 360° Kitchen. 00:21 All this and much more coming up next. 00:56 Hello, and welcome to Mission 360° 00:58 coming to you today from Lagos, Nigeria. 01:01 I'm Gary Krause. 01:03 Lagos is a city that's very difficult to understand. 01:06 It's enigmatic in some ways. 01:09 It's one of the most Christianized areas 01:11 in terms of everywhere you go there churches, 01:14 but it'll also has one of the highest crime rates 01:16 in the world. 01:18 As we see, many places are very densely populated 01:22 then assigned to sprawl out 01:23 and nobody really knows how many people live in Lagos, 01:27 but credible estimates say 01:29 it's more than 21 million people. 01:32 It has surpassed Cairo 01:34 as the largest city on the African continent. 01:37 And the cities of Africa are growing faster 01:40 than anywhere in the world. 01:42 And Lagos is no exception as people by the thousands 01:45 are flooding and looking for opportunities. 01:48 We see the normal contrast between the poor and the rich, 01:51 and it is a tremendous mission challenge. 01:54 What we're gonna learn more about Lagos 01:56 on today's program, but first up, 01:58 let's travel to India and meet a young person 02:00 who is volunteering and working in the community 02:03 to make a difference. 02:13 Shahjahan is only a teenager, 02:15 but that doesn't stop her from holding a crucial role 02:18 in her village in northern India. 02:27 Shahjahan is accompanied by her friend 02:29 and co-worker Zemat. 02:31 They're visiting a mother 02:33 who just gave birth to a baby boy. 02:39 Shahjahan's work is much more than it seems. 02:43 She's not just pouring two glasses of water. 02:46 She's saving a life. 02:49 She pours a few more ounces into both cups, 02:52 representing the first of three immunizations 02:55 in a local vaccination plan. 02:58 The plan immunizes against diphtheria, 03:01 whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B, and influenza. 03:09 Shahjahan and other women like her 03:11 are community mobilization coordinators 03:14 known as CMC's. 03:27 They work with the Government of India 03:29 and with humanitarian agencies 03:31 like Adventist Development and Relief Agency or ADRA. 03:35 Their goal is to keep women and children 03:37 protected against diseases 03:38 common during pregnancy and infancy. 03:42 CMC's use posters, demonstrations, 03:45 one on one conversations, and women-only group meetings 03:49 to ensure that all mothers have free and easy access 03:52 to life saving information and medical care. 03:59 The water glass demonstration, for example, 04:01 conveys the importance of vaccines to mothers 04:04 who are skeptical, 04:05 often because they're afraid of the fever 04:07 that commonly accompanies vaccination. 04:10 Such demonstrations are almost always successful 04:13 at convincing the mothers. 04:19 This grassroots approach to national health 04:22 is the main reason 04:23 India was declared polio free in 2014. 04:27 It was our CMCs continuous effort. 04:30 They mobilized the community, 04:32 particularly they talk to the mothers 04:33 and they tell them 04:36 the importance of the polio immunization. 04:38 And also, we involved the whole community 04:43 like we work closely with the local influencers. 04:47 In a country of more than 1 billion people 04:50 fighting a contagious disease takes education, 04:53 dedicated health workers, 04:55 and concerned citizens like Shahjahan 04:57 and the men and women of ADRA. 05:00 Your support of ADRA helps women and children 05:02 around the world live healthier, happier lives. 05:08 My guest is Dr. Paul Ananaba, 05:10 who is a senior advocate of Nigeria. 05:14 So thank you for taking the time 05:16 out of your busy schedule to share with us. 05:18 Thank you, Gary. 05:19 Now, you are a senior advocate of Nigeria, 05:23 what does that mean? 05:24 What do you do? 05:26 Well, it's never get up Nigeria is the highest status lawyer 05:30 contained in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 05:33 Now since the inception of this country 05:37 there are less than 500 in advocates dead or living. 05:41 Okay, so if I get into trouble 05:43 I'm coming to you to help me out. 05:46 Yeah, you've also want to do other good things. 05:48 Okay. 05:50 Might be a better idea. 05:53 You are a very busy man, obviously, 05:55 but you are involved in urban mission. 05:58 Why? 05:59 How? 06:01 Why, because as a legal practitioner, 06:05 I know that the last words of a man dying was of a man. 06:11 The last words of a man involving so much in law, 06:14 'cause God always gives that. 06:15 Now the last words of Jesus in Matthew 28 from 18 down, 06:21 he says, "Now all powers on heaven and earth 06:25 given unto me. 06:26 Go ye." 06:28 It goes all the way down to say, 06:29 "On as you go, I am with you always." 06:32 So that's the best you can get, as far as I know, in the Bible, 06:38 that the Master agree, 06:40 He will be with you ways to go to preserve. 06:43 And that's why I make it a priority. 06:47 And what I do 06:49 to serve the Master through evangelism. 06:54 How, I know that's no time not to try to make out 07:00 because at the best of this profession, 07:03 it will not give you salvation. 07:05 Salvation is brought in God. 07:07 When you seek first the Kingdom of God 07:09 if you're including professional success 07:12 will be added, of course, 07:13 how did I become a senior advocate of Nigeria 07:15 if God was not there. 07:17 Now so, at present I have five offices 07:20 in five regions in the country, 07:22 but then there has to be time for the Master 07:26 who made those things possible. 07:28 Wonderful. 07:30 So tell me about what sort of outreach 07:33 you have been involved in? 07:35 Well, from house to house 07:40 to public evangelism, 07:42 Revelation seminars, 07:44 public teachings, 07:46 and then ICT enabled evangelism. 07:52 Every day, 07:54 I send across the world by vortex 07:59 and in my ethnic group, all over the world, 08:04 we'll have platforms. 08:07 Every Saturday morning, 08:10 people look forward to my post on Christianity. 08:15 So that is ongoing, it's been on for several years. 08:19 It's looked up also. 08:21 So then when you get to my office 08:24 the person that greets you 08:25 is that you are given Adventist belief, 08:29 given Adventist's documents 08:32 and then many times into books, discussions, 08:35 how many have become Adventist to God. 08:38 Okay. 08:39 So before you take on a client, they have to take the book... 08:43 They get it, as they come there's sitting 08:45 my receptionist structured in such a manner as you come. 08:49 The receptionist is a person welcome you 08:51 and hand you that book. 08:53 Okay. 08:55 It makes the impact in the lives of many people 08:57 because they fear that such level of success 09:02 having attended any religion 09:05 you have it should be looked at. 09:07 And then in the country 09:12 there's a lot of corruption 09:13 and issues those of us who are Christians 09:19 including particularly what I do 09:22 got to be known that, 09:23 oh, this one is an Adventist Christian 09:25 so it's a bit different. 09:28 So people often come to my office 09:29 just get to know my religion, my God and all that. 09:34 Wonderful. 09:35 Now you were also involved in planting a church 09:38 not too far from here? 09:39 Yes. Enugu. 09:41 Why did you decide to plant a church? 09:44 It was necessary for a church to be in that neighborhood 09:46 and efforts were being made and the pastor then 09:51 who is seated here now posted me to Enugu 09:54 and I got there, 09:55 and by God's grace we moved, 09:58 and then the church by God's grace started. 10:02 And today we'll have one of the modern churches 10:04 in Lagos there. 10:06 And how many members? 10:08 Well, on average, we have 150 persons attendance. 10:13 Excellent. Excellent. 10:16 Wonderful now a city like Lagos is not easy. 10:19 You face many challenges. 10:21 What are some of the major challenges you face? 10:22 There're so many, Gary. 10:24 There is multiplicity of religions in Lagos 10:30 ranging from whatever religion you can think about. 10:34 Lagos is said to be center of excellence, 10:36 both in religion and in evil. 10:38 Okay. 10:39 So those are the first major challenges we face. 10:42 And in church plants 10:44 and people are always in a hurry in Lagos. 10:47 I don't know whether that's any city 10:49 in order like Lagos. 10:50 So that's the challenge 10:52 and the challenge of even getting men 10:55 to plant a church 10:57 and then the accessibility to the church 10:59 and to the place and all that, 11:02 and then because of crimes 11:05 and all that people also losing faith in religion. 11:09 Yes. Exactly. 11:10 Now you told me earlier about somebody 11:13 that you studied with. 11:16 What happened to him now? 11:17 Yes, he's now a pastor. 11:19 I mean, one of my Revelation seminars, 11:23 I met a very stubborn young man. 11:25 His name is Grillo, he's now Pastor Grillo. 11:29 And he was very stubborn at the Revelation seminar. 11:33 But the Spirit of God made impression on him. 11:36 He got baptized. 11:37 The family rejected him. 11:40 The church, the formed fellowship came together, 11:43 sent him to us while he graduated as a pastor, 11:46 and then not too long after he became a pastor. 11:50 He was now posted to be my church pastor 11:53 in Maryland here. 11:54 That's beautiful. 11:56 Well, Dr. Paul, 11:57 thank you so much for sharing with us today. 11:59 And may God bless you and your ministry. 12:00 Thank you, Gary. 12:02 And viewers at home, please pray for Lagos. 12:05 This is a huge mission for more than 21 million people 12:09 to spread out. 12:10 And in human terms, 12:13 we would say how is this possible, 12:15 but we know that with you, all things are possible. 12:18 Please, please pray for those 12:19 who are involved in church planting here. 12:22 We'll be right back after this break. |
