Hi, welcome back to Thailand. 00:00:15.58\00:00:17.61 Up next, we're going to one of my favorite spots 00:00:17.65\00:00:20.48 Mission 360° Kitchen. 00:00:20.52\00:00:22.28 Today, Nancy and Kayla have a special recipe for us. 00:00:22.32\00:00:25.65 Sweet mango soup. 00:00:25.69\00:00:27.49 Welcome to our Mission 360° Kitchen. 00:00:27.52\00:00:29.99 We like to think of the world as a global neighborhood 00:00:30.03\00:00:32.69 and so we've chosen a few international recipes 00:00:32.73\00:00:35.30 to share on this series. 00:00:35.33\00:00:37.03 And today, we're going to focus on the Caribbean 00:00:37.07\00:00:39.60 and specifically, on Jamaica. 00:00:39.63\00:00:42.44 What are we making today, Kayla? 00:00:42.47\00:00:44.01 We're gonna make a sweet mango soup. 00:00:44.04\00:00:46.51 And do you want me to tell you the ingredients? 00:00:46.54\00:00:48.28 Yes. All right. 00:00:48.31\00:00:49.64 That sounds delicious and it also sounds easy. 00:00:58.15\00:01:01.29 One thing that I should mention about Jamaica 00:01:01.32\00:01:04.56 is that our church is very active there. 00:01:04.59\00:01:07.70 And I know for a fact that we are very, 00:01:07.73\00:01:10.23 very much in tune with community services. 00:01:10.27\00:01:12.93 So when there is something disastrous, 00:01:12.97\00:01:14.64 like a bad hurricane or something, 00:01:14.67\00:01:17.14 our church members are there to help in their communities. 00:01:17.17\00:01:19.61 So that's an interesting thing. 00:01:19.64\00:01:20.98 That's wonderful. I'm glad to hear that. 00:01:21.01\00:01:22.74 We're going to start out with our mangoes. 00:01:22.78\00:01:24.55 These were frozen 00:01:24.58\00:01:25.91 and they've just been thawed a little bit. 00:01:25.95\00:01:29.72 So we're just gonna put that into our container. 00:01:29.75\00:01:34.06 Okay, there we go. 00:01:34.09\00:01:36.56 Let me add the milk. 00:01:36.59\00:01:39.56 Pour this thing. 00:01:39.59\00:01:40.93 What if somebody is interested in a vegan diet? 00:01:43.77\00:01:47.07 Would they still be able to make this recipe? 00:01:47.10\00:01:48.74 Yes, this is definitely a recipe 00:01:48.77\00:01:50.14 we can make for our vegan friends. 00:01:50.17\00:01:51.77 You can use any sort of nut milk 00:01:51.81\00:01:53.34 or like even a hindmilk. 00:01:53.38\00:01:55.21 And then for the yogurt, 00:01:55.24\00:01:56.58 you could use like a soy yogurt or a coconut yogurt. 00:01:56.61\00:01:58.88 Oh, sounds great. 00:01:58.91\00:02:00.25 So nobody has to be left out on this one? 00:02:00.28\00:02:01.68 Definitely not. 00:02:01.72\00:02:03.05 Should we try blending this a little bit 00:02:03.08\00:02:04.42 before we add the rest of the ingredients? 00:02:04.45\00:02:06.49 Okay. 00:02:06.52\00:02:07.86 Okay. Next I'm going to add yogurt. 00:02:17.97\00:02:21.14 That's gonna make it smooth. 00:02:25.94\00:02:27.84 Nice and thick. 00:02:27.88\00:02:29.74 And it's gonna have a good feel in the mouth. 00:02:29.78\00:02:34.15 I'll add the coconut milk 00:02:34.18\00:02:35.52 which will also make it very rich and creamy. 00:02:35.55\00:02:37.39 I love coconut milk. 00:02:42.12\00:02:43.46 That's a good underlying flavor too. 00:02:43.49\00:02:44.83 I think so too. 00:02:44.86\00:02:46.63 I agree. 00:02:46.66\00:02:48.00 We're gonna add some sugar. 00:02:48.03\00:02:49.36 Yes, I think I will, just in case. 00:02:49.40\00:02:50.77 We have two tablespoons of sugar here 00:02:50.80\00:02:52.53 and I'm not gonna add it all, but you can adjust. 00:02:52.57\00:02:55.74 If the mangoes are very sweet, 00:02:55.77\00:02:57.11 you won't need any sugar at all. 00:02:57.14\00:02:58.91 So let's give that a whirl. 00:02:58.94\00:03:00.38 Okay. 00:03:04.51\00:03:05.85 We might need to stir it a little bit on top, I think. 00:03:18.83\00:03:20.60 We might need to. 00:03:20.63\00:03:21.96 Oh, it's good. 00:03:22.00\00:03:23.33 Good. It's good. Yes. 00:03:23.37\00:03:25.57 All right. 00:03:25.60\00:03:27.60 Now Jamaica is in the Inter-American Division. 00:03:27.64\00:03:30.44 And it's exciting to know that the church membership 00:03:30.47\00:03:34.81 in the Inter-American Division 00:03:34.84\00:03:36.54 is one of the fastest growing in the world. 00:03:36.58\00:03:38.68 So it's kind of interesting to hear that. 00:03:38.71\00:03:40.62 And it makes me feel proud of our church. 00:03:40.65\00:03:43.12 Now this could also be a smoothie, 00:03:43.15\00:03:44.92 but we're using it as soup today 00:03:44.95\00:03:46.72 because it is kind of thick. 00:03:46.76\00:03:49.46 That looks so good. 00:03:49.49\00:03:50.83 So there's one for you. 00:03:50.86\00:03:52.89 Thank you. 00:03:52.93\00:03:54.26 And do fill that one. 00:03:54.30\00:03:55.76 I'll try this one. 00:03:55.80\00:03:57.13 I'll do my best to make them really pretty now. 00:03:57.17\00:04:00.00 Yes, you could have it this way, 00:04:00.04\00:04:01.40 but sometimes you just want a little more presentation. 00:04:01.44\00:04:05.01 Here we go. One for you. 00:04:05.04\00:04:06.41 Oh, thank you. 00:04:06.44\00:04:09.21 Bananas are perfect for this. 00:04:09.24\00:04:10.88 They are. And I love the way mint looks. 00:04:10.91\00:04:13.25 I usually eat my mint leaves too, so... 00:04:13.28\00:04:15.35 Well, that was easy, wasn't it? 00:04:18.55\00:04:20.69 Let's try it. 00:04:20.72\00:04:22.06 Oh, so fresh! 00:04:27.40\00:04:29.20 I can taste the coconut milk and the mango. 00:04:29.23\00:04:31.50 I did too. I love it. 00:04:31.53\00:04:33.07 I probably would put it in the refrigerator, 00:04:33.10\00:04:34.90 so get even colder, 00:04:34.94\00:04:36.60 but it's good just the way it is. 00:04:36.64\00:04:39.61 So thanks for joining us on our Mission 360° Kitchen. 00:04:39.64\00:04:42.94 And we hope you'll come back and see us sometime. 00:04:42.98\00:04:46.11 I hope you're enjoying the program. 00:04:46.15\00:04:47.85 Up next, we're going to travel to the southern Africa region 00:04:47.88\00:04:51.29 to watch a cartoon animated story. 00:04:51.32\00:04:55.92 Six-year-old Joanna wrinkled her little nose at the food 00:04:55.96\00:04:58.93 that mother had placed on the table for supper. 00:04:58.96\00:05:01.56 I want to be clever, she announced. 00:05:01.60\00:05:04.10 I don't want to eat meat. 00:05:04.13\00:05:05.97 Mother gasped in surprise. 00:05:06.00\00:05:07.70 She had worked hard 00:05:07.74\00:05:09.07 to prepare the traditional Botswana meal 00:05:09.10\00:05:10.97 in their home in Francistown, 00:05:11.01\00:05:12.61 the second largest city in Botswana. 00:05:12.64\00:05:14.74 She had set the table with beef stew, 00:05:14.78\00:05:17.01 a maize porridge that resembles mashed potatoes 00:05:17.05\00:05:20.02 and bean leaves that look like spinach. 00:05:20.05\00:05:22.82 Mother thought quickly. 00:05:22.85\00:05:24.42 "Is that what you're being taught at school?" 00:05:24.45\00:05:26.92 She asked. 00:05:26.96\00:05:28.29 "Yes," Joanna said. 00:05:28.32\00:05:29.82 The pastor told us not to eat the wrong food. 00:05:29.86\00:05:32.93 We should eat the right food, so we can be clever. 00:05:32.96\00:05:36.77 Mother asked more questions 00:05:36.80\00:05:38.47 and learned that a week of prayer 00:05:38.50\00:05:39.90 had just begun at Eastern Gate Primary School 00:05:39.93\00:05:43.14 where Joanna was studying in the first grade. 00:05:43.17\00:05:45.67 The theme for the week of prayer was Daniel. 00:05:45.71\00:05:48.81 That morning the school pastor had described 00:05:48.84\00:05:51.28 how Daniel and his three friends 00:05:51.31\00:05:53.15 had refused to eat meat 00:05:53.18\00:05:54.65 in King Nebuchadnezzar's palace in Babylon. 00:05:54.68\00:05:57.65 Instead, they had eaten vegetables 00:05:57.69\00:05:59.99 and become wise, strong men. 00:06:00.02\00:06:03.09 "You aren't supposed to eat this meat, 00:06:03.12\00:06:04.96 only vegetables," 00:06:04.99\00:06:06.39 Joanna told mother pointing to the beef stew. 00:06:06.43\00:06:09.60 I want to be clever, like Daniel. 00:06:09.63\00:06:12.50 Mother remembered hearing 00:06:12.53\00:06:13.87 about the benefits of a vegetarian diet. 00:06:13.90\00:06:16.14 Somehow she hadn't gotten around to trying it. 00:06:16.17\00:06:19.07 But she felt happy that Joanna was learning 00:06:19.11\00:06:21.38 about eating healthy food at her school. 00:06:21.41\00:06:25.05 "Okay, I will do my best to cook the right food," 00:06:25.08\00:06:28.45 Mother said. 00:06:28.48\00:06:29.95 Joanna happily ate the maize porridge 00:06:29.98\00:06:32.32 and bean leaves for supper. 00:06:32.35\00:06:34.09 She didn't touch the beef stew. 00:06:34.12\00:06:36.76 The next day mother went to the kitchen 00:06:36.79\00:06:39.13 to prepare supper 00:06:39.16\00:06:40.50 and remembered her daughter's desire 00:06:40.53\00:06:42.13 to avoid meat. 00:06:42.16\00:06:43.50 So she told Joanna's father and her 16-year-old brother 00:06:43.53\00:06:46.63 that she wouldn't cook any meat for the rest of the week 00:06:46.67\00:06:49.07 while Joanna learned about Daniel. 00:06:49.10\00:06:51.24 Joanna's brother grumbled, 00:06:51.27\00:06:53.01 but he finally agreed to eat the vegetables. 00:06:53.04\00:06:56.01 Joanna was so happy. 00:06:56.04\00:06:57.91 Every supper she ate vegetables and other food without meat. 00:06:57.95\00:07:01.68 Nine months have passed since that special week, 00:07:01.72\00:07:04.62 Joanna still prefers vegetables 00:07:04.65\00:07:06.65 and mother is trying to cook healthy meals without meat. 00:07:06.69\00:07:10.73 Joanna believes that she made the right choice 00:07:10.76\00:07:12.89 in following Daniel's example. 00:07:12.93\00:07:14.96 The principal at Joanna's school agreed. 00:07:15.00\00:07:17.60 Joanna is now at the top of her class 00:07:17.63\00:07:20.27 and the principal thinks this is because of her healthy meals 00:07:20.30\00:07:23.44 and her faith that God will reward her choice. 00:07:23.47\00:07:27.21 When you eat vegetables, you become strong and healthy. 00:07:27.24\00:07:32.81 Joanna is learning valuable lessons at her school. 00:07:32.85\00:07:36.35 Thank you for your 13 Sabbath offering in 2015, 00:07:36.38\00:07:40.12 which helped pay for the construction 00:07:40.16\00:07:41.89 of Joanna's school, Eastern Gate Primary School. 00:07:41.92\00:07:46.16 It is the first Seventh-day Adventist primary school 00:07:46.19\00:07:48.76 in northern Botswana and the third in the country. 00:07:48.80\00:07:51.97 I hope you've enjoyed our 360° view for mission 00:08:06.01\00:08:09.25 all around the
