Phnom Penh, 1973, '74, '75,

already in existence,

but it was only half-finished.

And, at that time

influx of refugees

coming from the countryside

countryside to the city itself.

So hundreds and
thousands of refugees

flocked into the city,

they were hungry,
they were hurting.

So some of them were
housed in this hotel,

this very hotel.

We did a lot of
refugee relief work.

So many of us
went from room to room

to help with the refugees.

And we saw those poor
people in a dark room,

dingy looking, mother, children,

cooking a meal on the floor.

You know, the entire
room was filled with smoke,

charcoal smoke.

And it was a pathetic scene,

but everyday almost we
did a lot of refugee relief,

distributing clothing,

and fish from Mekong River.

And then we had many experiences

how the Lord worked
overtime to protect us.

My wife was a treasurer
of the Kamrieng district.

And every week she
will go to the bank

to deposit the money
offerings and tithes.

And one time she went
with a student missionary,

you know, who
accompany her to the bank.

And, when he
was inside the bank,

there was a rocket attack.

When he came up from the bank
ready to retrieve his bicycle.

He noticed one of his handle
was cut off by a strap there,

he was safe and sound.

A lot of commotion outside,

but the bicycle was
okay minus one handle,

thank God for that.

Mrs. Ng, when you were finally
evacuated out of Phnom Pehn,

you went out to the airport.

So when you look
back at your time here,

what lessons did you
learn as young missionaries?

Well, never question God,

That's one lesson we learned.

Lesson number two is
that we learn to trust God

for the future of His work.

We had 33 members when we left.

So we thought

will be scattered

thousands of refugees

streaming across from Cambodia
to Vietnam, to Thailand,

they receive the gospel message
through the refugee ministry.

So a church was established

through the
ministry of many other,

dedicated Seventh-day
Adventist organizations.

So our church today is
strong and on, from 14,

we have a mission
office, we have a school.

prepared to give birth

a tiny island nation off
the coast of West Africa.

She began to bleed heavily,

and the doctors
mistakenly gave her

the wrong type of blood
during a blood transfusion.

The baby was born safely,

but Vitalina suffered a
severe infection in her legs.

To save her life

the doctors amputated both legs.

Vitalina was just 19 years old.

After this tragedy,

Vitalina husband left
her for another woman.

Depression overwhelmed her
and she considered suicide.

I felt a lot of
pain and I asked God,

live with this pain."

But God had a
purpose, a plan for me.

So He allowed me to live.

Vitalina worked hard
not to burden her family.

She sewed to pay the bills

and the people who assisted her

chores she couldn't do.

After some time,

a Seventh-day Adventist woman

who washed
Vitalina's clothes got sick.

I wanted to find another person,

but the woman said,

"Don't worry, I'm
going to ask church members

to come wash your clothes."

At that time, I
wasn't an Adventist,

so I told her not to do
it, but she didn't listen.

She asked people at church

and they came and
washed some of my clothes.

When a group of Adventist
girls arrived at Vitalina's home

to help with washing clothes.

She only gave them
some of her clothes

and told them that was all,

but eager to help

look through the house

for more items to clean.

Then they took her
clothes to the river

and sang as they washed.

And then they invited me
to an evangelistic meeting.

I attended it and
decided to accept Jesus.

After her baptism,

Vitalina was eager
to share her new faith.

She told her personal testimony
to everyone who would listen.

Through her witnessing,

seven people to go with her

She even paid
their bus fare for weeks.

of the Adventist Church.

Vitalina also
organized a Bible study group

outside her home

people were baptized.

Soon she led 40
people to baptism,

including two of her children.

Church leaders
began drafting plans

to open a church
in her neighborhood.

Lacking funds to buy land,

the church accepted
an offer from Vitalina

to build a temporary

I used to go to the
closest Adventist Church,

Now I feel happy about this.

because it's much closer now.

It was expensive to visit there.
