Welcome back to New York City. 00:00:01.76\00:00:03.57 Next up, we travel to another large city 00:00:03.60\00:00:06.33 in a much warmer area, the city of Bangkok. 00:00:06.37\00:00:09.90 Rick. 00:00:09.94\00:00:11.47 Thanks, Gary. 00:00:11.51\00:00:12.87 Here with me is Tonya Wright. 00:00:12.91\00:00:16.21 We're sitting here in beautiful Bangkok, Thailand. 00:00:16.24\00:00:18.91 And it's nice to be with you here 00:00:18.95\00:00:21.32 for a minute, Tonya, and just wanna ask you, 00:00:21.35\00:00:24.65 what are you doing here in Thailand? 00:00:24.69\00:00:26.39 Oh, my husband and I, we're working here at a school. 00:00:26.42\00:00:29.72 I'm the principal of a school in Ubon. 00:00:29.76\00:00:32.89 And it's a new, a new school. They're just starting it. 00:00:32.93\00:00:35.63 So we're excited to be a part of that. 00:00:35.66\00:00:37.10 Now when you say Ubon, probably most of our listeners 00:00:37.13\00:00:40.84 won't really know where that is. 00:00:40.87\00:00:42.37 Can you describe it just a little bit? 00:00:42.40\00:00:43.74 It's in the northeast of Bangkok about eight hours. 00:00:43.77\00:00:46.64 I mean of Thailand, about eight hours from Bangkok. 00:00:46.68\00:00:48.58 So it's quite a drive. It is. 00:00:48.61\00:00:49.94 Yeah. 00:00:49.98\00:00:51.31 And how many students are at your school? 00:00:51.35\00:00:52.75 Right now we only have a preschool going, 00:00:52.78\00:00:55.32 we have two-year-olds and three-year-olds, 00:00:55.35\00:00:57.82 but we're gonna be building up 00:00:57.85\00:00:59.19 from that all the way to 12th grade. 00:00:59.22\00:01:01.32 So that's a precious age. 00:01:01.36\00:01:02.82 You're getting them when they're quite young. 00:01:02.86\00:01:04.19 Yeah. 00:01:04.23\00:01:05.56 How long have you been doing that? 00:01:05.59\00:01:06.93 We just started. So... 00:01:06.96\00:01:08.30 Now you have come here to Thailand 00:01:08.33\00:01:10.13 from a few other countries not far from here. 00:01:10.17\00:01:13.90 Yes. Where you've been living? 00:01:13.94\00:01:15.97 Can you tell us anything about 00:01:16.00\00:01:17.34 what you were doing in previous places? 00:01:17.37\00:01:19.77 Oh, my husband and I, 00:01:19.81\00:01:21.14 we actually worked at church planting. 00:01:21.18\00:01:22.68 And also we were running an English language school 00:01:22.71\00:01:25.01 where we were interacting with a lot of the local people 00:01:25.05\00:01:26.95 teaching them English. 00:01:26.98\00:01:28.32 Right. Wow. 00:01:28.35\00:01:29.95 Is there any special story 00:01:29.98\00:01:33.39 that kind of came out of your work 00:01:33.42\00:01:34.86 in another place? 00:01:34.89\00:01:37.33 Yeah, actually, when my husband and I just a year 00:01:37.36\00:01:39.86 or so after we'd been in the country, 00:01:39.89\00:01:41.90 we became aware of a young girl that someone was sponsoring 00:01:41.93\00:01:44.43 to come to our school that needed a place to stay. 00:01:44.47\00:01:47.20 She was trying to go to school there 00:01:47.24\00:01:48.64 and also attended English school, 00:01:48.67\00:01:50.31 and was running out of money for her rent. 00:01:50.34\00:01:52.04 So my husband and I discussed it 00:01:52.07\00:01:53.41 and decided that 00:01:53.44\00:01:54.78 we'd like to offer her to stay with us. 00:01:54.81\00:01:56.88 So we invited her to come stay with us. 00:01:56.91\00:01:58.45 She was Hindu. 00:01:58.48\00:01:59.81 And we understood that, you know, 00:01:59.85\00:02:01.18 the complications with that. 00:02:01.22\00:02:02.68 So we were just excited, though, to be able to help out. 00:02:02.72\00:02:05.52 And the first week she was with us, 00:02:05.55\00:02:07.46 she wanted to help 00:02:07.49\00:02:08.82 with whatever she could around the house. 00:02:08.86\00:02:10.19 She was so excited to that we were helping her 00:02:10.23\00:02:12.09 and she wanted to show her appreciation. 00:02:12.13\00:02:14.90 And I remember Friday night, 00:02:14.93\00:02:16.40 first Friday night, she was with us. 00:02:16.43\00:02:19.00 She was trying to do all these extra things. 00:02:19.03\00:02:21.34 And my husband, I are, "How can we teach her about 00:02:21.37\00:02:23.30 Sabbath and specialness of that, 00:02:23.34\00:02:25.07 you know, she doesn't understand it?" 00:02:25.11\00:02:27.28 And we don't wanna force it on her 00:02:27.31\00:02:28.68 but we, she'd say, "Oh, can I do your laundry?" 00:02:28.71\00:02:30.35 We're like, "Oh, no, maybe not tonight, 00:02:30.38\00:02:31.71 maybe we'll do that, you know, on Sunday." 00:02:31.75\00:02:34.18 She's trying to wash all the dishes. 00:02:34.22\00:02:35.55 And we're like we'll just leave until tomorrow night, you know, 00:02:35.58\00:02:37.59 and so she didn't know what to do 00:02:37.62\00:02:39.15 'cause she's used to working all the time. 00:02:39.19\00:02:41.12 And finally, we're like, "Well, 00:02:41.16\00:02:42.62 you know, we have some nice religious videos, 00:02:42.66\00:02:45.23 maybe you'd like to pick one out." 00:02:45.26\00:02:46.80 And so we went over to her collection of videos, 00:02:46.83\00:02:49.16 and she saw the gospel of John video 00:02:49.20\00:02:52.37 that we had, she's like, "Can we watch this?" 00:02:52.40\00:02:54.57 So we put it in, and she starts watching it 00:02:54.60\00:02:57.17 and realize she really hasn't ever heard 00:02:57.21\00:02:58.94 the story of Jesus before. 00:02:58.97\00:03:00.78 You know, and so it was exciting 00:03:00.81\00:03:02.28 to watch somebody who doesn't know 00:03:02.31\00:03:03.65 really who Jesus is watching Him 00:03:03.68\00:03:05.18 do all these wonderful things. 00:03:05.21\00:03:06.92 And then we come down to the end 00:03:06.95\00:03:08.95 where there's the crucifixion scene, 00:03:08.98\00:03:10.69 and she sees that they're taking Jesus 00:03:10.72\00:03:12.35 and she gets so angry. 00:03:12.39\00:03:14.79 She's like, "Why are they doing that? 00:03:14.82\00:03:16.32 Don't they know He's a good man? 00:03:16.36\00:03:17.69 What's happening? 00:03:17.73\00:03:19.06 What are they gonna do to and what's gonna happen?" 00:03:19.09\00:03:20.43 And then they kill Him. 00:03:20.46\00:03:21.80 And she just like burst into tears. 00:03:21.83\00:03:23.40 She's so moved, and so frustrated. 00:03:23.43\00:03:25.17 "Why did they do that?" 00:03:25.20\00:03:26.53 And of course, you know, we know what comes next. 00:03:26.57\00:03:28.04 So we're like just wait, be patient, you know, 00:03:28.07\00:03:30.24 and then there's the resurrection scene, 00:03:30.27\00:03:32.07 and she was just so excited. 00:03:32.11\00:03:33.44 She's up. 00:03:33.48\00:03:34.81 She's jumping around this room, Jesus is alive, Jesus is alive. 00:03:34.84\00:03:37.88 And it was just amazing to see, like the story of Jesus that 00:03:37.91\00:03:41.68 we've heard so many times, the first time 00:03:41.72\00:03:44.12 that somebody really understands that 00:03:44.15\00:03:45.89 and the impact that it had on her heart. 00:03:45.92\00:03:47.76 It was just truly a blessing. 00:03:47.79\00:03:49.72 Very heartfelt response on her part 00:03:49.76\00:03:51.66 to the exposure to the gospel. 00:03:51.69\00:03:53.03 Yes. Yes. 00:03:53.06\00:03:54.40 And what a beautiful capsule 00:03:54.43\00:03:58.47 of what we all want to see 00:03:58.50\00:04:00.54 in other people's lives. 00:04:00.57\00:04:01.94 We'd love to see 00:04:01.97\00:04:03.30 that connection with Jesus, wouldn't we? 00:04:03.34\00:04:04.97 Yeah. 00:04:05.01\00:04:06.34 Let's bring it back to today a little bit. 00:04:06.37\00:04:09.68 When you think about the mission challenge in Asia, 00:04:09.71\00:04:15.28 in Thailand, what makes your... 00:04:15.32\00:04:19.65 What gives you motivation 00:04:19.69\00:04:21.46 for what you're doing right now? 00:04:21.49\00:04:22.82 What I'm doing. 00:04:22.86\00:04:24.19 Just knowing there are so many people 00:04:24.23\00:04:26.33 that know so little about Jesus, 00:04:26.36\00:04:27.70 like this young lady, or if they have, 00:04:27.73\00:04:30.13 they don't really understand, 00:04:30.17\00:04:31.53 they have a skewed version of what the gospel really is 00:04:31.57\00:04:35.10 and who Jesus is. 00:04:35.14\00:04:36.47 And they might think, oh, He was a good man, 00:04:36.50\00:04:38.21 but that's all they know. 00:04:38.24\00:04:39.57 And when you're actually able to help somebody 00:04:39.61\00:04:42.14 see who Jesus really is and when you're there 00:04:42.18\00:04:45.01 when the Holy Spirit touches their heart. 00:04:45.05\00:04:47.12 It's just an experience that you can't ever forget. 00:04:47.15\00:04:50.12 And I'm just so thankful that God allows us to be a part of. 00:04:50.15\00:04:52.25 Wow. 00:04:52.29\00:04:53.62 And to think of that with the millions of people 00:04:53.66\00:04:57.03 we're surrounded with every day 00:04:57.06\00:04:58.53 here in Bangkok 12 million people 00:04:58.56\00:05:00.70 on the average day, 00:05:00.73\00:05:02.43 in the nation of Thailand many more million. 00:05:02.46\00:05:04.63 And if you think of the region of Asia, 00:05:04.67\00:05:06.67 with the large countries of China, India, 00:05:06.70\00:05:09.30 even as far as Nepal, and Pakistan, 00:05:09.34\00:05:13.94 and Indonesia, you think of the billions 00:05:13.98\00:05:19.78 who have yet to hear the name of Jesus. 00:05:19.81\00:05:22.25 And that's really 00:05:22.28\00:05:23.62 what gives you the purpose to why you're here. 00:05:23.65\00:05:26.02 It does. Yeah. 00:05:26.05\00:05:28.82 When you are working 00:05:28.86\00:05:32.09 in your new school, 00:05:32.13\00:05:35.53 what kind of things you're doing 00:05:35.56\00:05:36.90 with the little ones? 00:05:36.93\00:05:38.83 Well, like I said, we just arrived, 00:05:38.87\00:05:40.34 I haven't done too much yet, but, you know, 00:05:40.37\00:05:44.67 really our goal there is to be able to share 00:05:44.71\00:05:49.18 all kinds of hands on things, 00:05:49.21\00:05:52.01 and also to get their parents involved 00:05:52.05\00:05:54.02 to invite the parents to programs, 00:05:54.05\00:05:55.38 have the children involved in doing things 00:05:55.42\00:05:56.89 so their parents can come and have a very natural way 00:05:56.92\00:05:59.29 to connect with our church members 00:05:59.32\00:06:01.19 and with us something that they're interested in, 00:06:01.22\00:06:03.49 something we're interested in. 00:06:03.53\00:06:04.86 So you get a connection with not only the little ones, 00:06:04.89\00:06:07.26 but with the parents, the whole family's involved. 00:06:07.30\00:06:09.96 And that way you can share 00:06:10.00\00:06:12.23 the gospel with families, right? 00:06:12.27\00:06:13.87 Yeah, exactly. In Ubon, what's it like? 00:06:13.90\00:06:18.87 Is it more rural? 00:06:18.91\00:06:20.38 Is it, you know, more traditional? 00:06:20.41\00:06:22.71 Is it Buddhist? 00:06:22.74\00:06:24.08 Is it, what's the situation there? 00:06:24.11\00:06:26.65 From what I could see so far, it's a city. 00:06:26.68\00:06:30.42 It's a big city. 00:06:30.45\00:06:32.12 It's a growing city. 00:06:32.15\00:06:33.49 They've actually, the development you can tell 00:06:33.52\00:06:34.86 they've planned for it to be able to expand 00:06:34.89\00:06:36.79 quite a bit the way the city has been developing. 00:06:36.83\00:06:39.19 And, but it's a little more traditional, 00:06:39.23\00:06:43.23 I think, than Bangkok for sure, 00:06:43.26\00:06:45.33 but I haven't been there very long. 00:06:45.37\00:06:47.50 So we have much to learn still. Yeah, you're new there. 00:06:47.54\00:06:48.87 Yes, yes. 00:06:48.90\00:06:50.24 And as missionaries, we're learners. 00:06:50.27\00:06:51.74 Yes. 00:06:51.77\00:06:53.11 We studied, listen, and try to do our best. 00:06:53.14\00:06:55.91 And I really appreciate you joining me 00:06:55.94\00:06:57.41 for a few minutes here. 00:06:57.45\00:06:58.78 I am thrilled with what you're doing 00:06:58.81\00:07:00.78 and how the Lord is blessing. 00:07:00.82\00:07:02.38 And we'll be praying for your school. 00:07:02.42\00:07:03.75 Oh, thank you. 00:07:03.79\00:07:05.12 Yeah, just wanna again, say thank you. 00:07:05.15\00:07:07.29 And thank you to our viewers around the world, 00:07:07.32\00:07:10.49 who are again, sharing from their heart, 00:07:10.53\00:07:13.50 their resources, their time, 00:07:13.53\00:07:14.86 their prayers to make the mission of the church 00:07:14.90\00:07:18.47 go forward, and wanna hand it back to Gary. 00:07:18.50\00:07:21.24 Here's the show back to you, Gary. 00:07:21.27\00:07:23.67 Next up, another animated story from East Central Africa. 00:07:23.71\00:07:28.84 Mr. Victor lives in South Sudan, 00:07:28.88\00:07:31.41 a country in East Africa. 00:07:31.45\00:07:33.21 He grew up in a home 00:07:33.25\00:07:34.58 where his father drank a lot of alcohol. 00:07:34.62\00:07:36.95 Mr. Victor's father thought 00:07:36.99\00:07:38.39 that nothing bad would happen to him, 00:07:38.42\00:07:40.46 but one day he became very sick and could not recover. 00:07:40.49\00:07:44.39 He passed away. 00:07:44.43\00:07:45.93 When Mr. Victor grew up, he also drank alcohol, 00:07:45.96\00:07:49.10 and ignored his father's lesson. 00:07:49.13\00:07:50.93 And he, too, became very sick. 00:07:50.97\00:07:53.44 As he was sick and feeble, 00:07:53.47\00:07:55.50 he heard a very clear voice saying to him that 00:07:55.54\00:07:58.01 if he didn't stop drinking, 00:07:58.04\00:07:59.77 he would die just like his father. 00:07:59.81\00:08:02.64 He immediately decided to quit drinking. 00:08:02.68\00:08:04.81 Mr. Victor felt God was speaking to him 00:08:04.85\00:08:07.02 to save his life, 00:08:07.05\00:08:08.55 so he followed the advice and began to get better. 00:08:08.58\00:08:11.22 After this, Mr. Victor 00:08:14.92\00:08:16.93 and his wife began to learn more 00:08:16.96\00:08:18.46 about the Bible through a Christian television station. 00:08:18.49\00:08:21.50 They wanted to have children, 00:08:21.53\00:08:22.86 and after reading the stories of Abraham 00:08:22.90\00:08:24.70 and Sarah, and Hannah who prayed for a child 00:08:24.73\00:08:27.44 and was given Samuel, they too prayed to God. 00:08:27.47\00:08:30.74 About this time, 00:08:30.77\00:08:32.11 the Victors met an Adventist member 00:08:32.14\00:08:33.81 who asked them if they would like 00:08:33.84\00:08:35.18 to study the Bible. 00:08:35.21\00:08:36.54 They said yes right away. 00:08:36.58\00:08:38.51 Now they had someone they could ask questions 00:08:38.55\00:08:40.85 and who would show them answers from the Bible. 00:08:40.88\00:08:43.55 As they learned precious lessons, 00:08:43.59\00:08:45.45 they decided to get baptized 00:08:45.49\00:08:47.19 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Juba. 00:08:47.22\00:08:50.19 Before long their prayers were answered, 00:08:50.23\00:08:51.93 and soon, a baby was born to the Victors. 00:08:51.96\00:08:54.70 They named her Shammah. 00:08:54.73\00:08:56.63 Then two more babies came along, twin girls. 00:08:56.67\00:09:00.77 After a while another baby was born into the family, 00:09:00.80\00:09:04.04 and they named her Faith. 00:09:04.07\00:09:06.11 The Victors were so happy. 00:09:06.14\00:09:08.01 Every evening before going to bed, 00:09:08.04\00:09:10.25 the family had worship together. 00:09:10.28\00:09:12.05 They enjoyed singing hymns, 00:09:12.08\00:09:13.88 listening to Bible stories, and praying. 00:09:13.92\00:09:18.35 After a while, Mrs. Victor was expecting yet another baby. 00:09:18.39\00:09:22.39 But this time, something sad happened. 00:09:22.42\00:09:27.96 When Mrs. Victor went to the hospital to give birth, 00:09:28.00\00:09:30.77 there was a complication and she passed away. 00:09:30.80\00:09:34.34 The Victor family was very sad, 00:09:34.37\00:09:36.54 but they kept their faith in Jesus. 00:09:36.57\00:09:38.67 Now more strongly than ever, they hope for His soon return. 00:09:38.71\00:09:43.21 Shammah's favorite Bible story 00:09:43.24\00:09:45.15 is Jesus' resurrection on the third day. 00:09:45.18\00:09:48.85 Mr. Victor tells his children 00:09:48.88\00:09:50.39 that one day Jesus will call their mother 00:09:50.42\00:09:52.62 from the tomb 00:09:52.65\00:09:53.99 and if they are faithful, they will see her again. 00:09:54.02\00:09:59.36 Every Sabbath, Shammah, 00:09:59.39\00:10:01.20 Faith, the twins, and many other children 00:10:01.23\00:10:04.10 go to Sabbath School and church. 00:10:04.13\00:10:06.77 They bring chairs to sit under the beautiful trees. 00:10:06.80\00:10:09.70 Here they find a place in nature 00:10:09.74\00:10:11.21 to connect with the Creator. 00:10:11.24\00:10:12.97 Sometimes, however, the children cannot have 00:10:13.01\00:10:15.08 Sabbath School because it is raining. 00:10:15.11\00:10:17.28 The only place they have to meet 00:10:17.31\00:10:18.98 is under the trees. 00:10:19.01\00:10:20.42 When it rains everything becomes very wet and muddy. 00:10:20.45\00:10:24.75 The Victors' children 00:10:24.79\00:10:26.12 continue to invite many young ones 00:10:26.15\00:10:27.72 like them to church. 00:10:27.76\00:10:29.16 They are praying that more children will be ready 00:10:29.19\00:10:31.03 for heaven with them, 00:10:31.06\00:10:32.69 but they also are praying for funds 00:10:32.73\00:10:34.46 to build a "Lamb Shelter." 00:10:34.50\00:10:36.33 This building will be used 00:10:36.36\00:10:37.70 for children's Sabbath School and church. 00:10:37.73\00:10:40.04 Please pray as you support 00:10:40.07\00:10:41.57 the many mission projects happening in Juba 00:10:41.60\00:10:44.17 and all around the world. 00:10:44.21\00:10:45.54 Well, I hope you've enjoyed 00:11:04.56\00:11:05.89 this special children's edition of the program. 00:11:05.93\00:11:09.06 And it's wonderful to see children's lives 00:11:09.10\00:11:11.90 being touched all around the world. 00:11:11.93\00:11:13.87 And it's wonderful too to see children engaged in ministry. 00:11:13.90\00:11:18.51 And we see tremendous challenges 00:11:18.54\00:11:19.94 around the world from areas in Thailand, 00:11:19.97\00:11:24.01 remote areas in Africa, 00:11:24.05\00:11:26.21 through the huge urban areas 00:11:26.25\00:11:27.98 like right here in New York City. 00:11:28.02\00:11:30.32 And we see that the holistic ministry 00:11:30.35\00:11:33.56 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:11:33.59\00:11:35.32 is touching people's lives for eternity. 00:11:35.36\00:11:38.63 And I wanna thank you so much for what you do 00:11:38.66\00:11:41.20 to make that happen. 00:11:41.23\00:11:42.73 Your prayers make a big difference. 00:11:42.76\00:11:45.33 Your financial support makes things happen. 00:11:45.37\00:11:48.84 And your personal involvement also makes a wonderful, 00:11:48.87\00:11:52.17 wonderful contribution. 00:11:52.21\00:11:53.84 And before we go, 00:11:53.88\00:11:55.21 I'd like to offer you a special gift. 00:11:55.24\00:11:57.75 It's a money box. 00:11:57.78\00:11:59.81 It's a special mission money box, 00:11:59.85\00:12:01.58 in your home 00:12:08.96\00:12:10.29 in schools and Sabbath schools, wherever. 00:12:10.33\00:12:13.13 Well, for Adventist Mission, I'm Gary Krause. 00:12:13.16\00:12:15.20 I'm glad you were able to
