(laughter) 00:02:08.92\00:02:10.73 - So how did you come to Christ? 00:02:10.73\00:02:12.53 (foreign language) 00:02:13.53\00:02:17.13 - In the 1990's there was an organization 00:02:17.13\00:02:18.93 that came to our place. 00:02:18.93\00:02:20.17 They helped us by providing wood for a shelter 00:02:20.17\00:02:22.50 so that our family could have a small home to live in. 00:02:22.50\00:02:25.27 At that time I worked with a man who was a Christian pastor 00:02:28.24\00:02:31.65 but I didn't know he was a pastor. 00:02:31.65\00:02:33.82 The reason I was working with him 00:02:33.82\00:02:35.25 was to get a sack of rice to feed my family. 00:02:35.25\00:02:37.82 On Sabbath he told me, "Today we will rest 00:02:42.46\00:02:45.09 "and we will not work. 00:02:45.09\00:02:46.76 "So will you come to church with me?" 00:02:46.76\00:02:48.83 He asked again and then I said, 00:02:48.83\00:02:50.70 "Where is the church and what is God?" 00:02:50.70\00:02:53.20 And the man said, "It's Jesus, the God we worship." 00:02:53.20\00:02:56.77 So I went with him on Sabbath because I was wondering 00:02:56.77\00:02:59.47 what they were doing in the worship program. 00:02:59.47\00:03:01.71 His name was Pastor Bun-Lin. 00:03:01.71\00:03:04.08 The first time I went there I sat down 00:03:04.08\00:03:06.05 and saw the singing and the many people there. 00:03:06.05\00:03:08.42 I didn't really know who God was and I didn't believe 00:03:08.42\00:03:10.99 in the God that I worshiped that day. 00:03:10.99\00:03:12.99 I only knew that I needed to go back the next Sabbath. 00:03:12.99\00:03:16.16 So I kept going to church for about three months. 00:03:17.53\00:03:19.93 Then a war broke out between the Khmer Rouge rebel forces 00:03:21.30\00:03:24.23 and government soldiers. 00:03:24.23\00:03:25.57 As a group of rebels came and attacked my village 00:03:26.94\00:03:29.04 one of the head villagers died that night. 00:03:29.04\00:03:31.37 At that time I didn't know how to pray 00:03:32.97\00:03:34.91 but my wife and I sat down 00:03:34.91\00:03:36.28 and we started to pray even though we didn't know how. 00:03:36.28\00:03:39.18 Because I was so afraid I asked God to please save me 00:03:41.12\00:03:44.02 from the soldiers that were attacking our place. 00:03:44.02\00:03:46.49 I was next to the front door 00:03:47.39\00:03:48.82 and my wife was inside the room. 00:03:48.82\00:03:50.83 My daughter was still a baby at that time. 00:03:50.83\00:03:53.23 My wife was also praying. 00:03:53.23\00:03:54.86 She didn't know how to pray either 00:03:54.86\00:03:56.40 but she kept on talking to God 00:03:56.40\00:03:58.00 not knowing if she was using the right words or not. 00:03:58.00\00:04:01.17 Soon the soldiers came to my house and asked me to come out. 00:04:01.17\00:04:04.97 They said, "Is there anyone in there?" 00:04:04.97\00:04:07.31 My wife and I didn't say anything. 00:04:07.31\00:04:09.58 I was thinking that if I answered them 00:04:09.58\00:04:11.71 they would come inside, take the bike 00:04:11.71\00:04:13.68 that I was borrowing from my neighbor. 00:04:13.68\00:04:15.42 My clothes were also near the door 00:04:15.42\00:04:17.22 and so I was afraid that the soldiers would take my clothes 00:04:17.22\00:04:19.99 and I wouldn't have any clothes. 00:04:19.99\00:04:21.66 I prayed continuously that if God and Jesus were real 00:04:21.66\00:04:24.89 the soldiers wouldn't come inside my house. 00:04:24.89\00:04:27.46 Two of the soldiers tried to push 00:04:27.46\00:04:28.86 through the door to get inside. 00:04:28.86\00:04:30.90 Usually one person can easily push the door open. 00:04:30.90\00:04:34.64 But these two strong men could not push it open 00:04:34.64\00:04:37.27 even though I was not holding it. 00:04:37.27\00:04:39.14 Then they flashed a light around my house 00:04:40.24\00:04:42.98 If they saw anyone in the house they would shoot. 00:04:42.98\00:04:45.81 I was wondering why they didn't see 00:04:47.05\00:04:48.72 the shoes in front of the house. 00:04:48.72\00:04:51.05 If they saw them they would know that we were inside. 00:04:51.05\00:04:54.12 Our neighbors were so worried 00:04:54.12\00:04:55.59 and wondering why I didn't let them in. 00:04:55.59\00:04:57.99 There were about 30 soldiers in the group that had guns. 00:04:57.99\00:05:01.70 Again the soldiers asked, 00:05:01.70\00:05:03.26 "Where are the people that live in this house?" 00:05:03.26\00:05:05.67 I was about to speak but it was like 00:05:06.74\00:05:08.80 there was something that kept my mouth shut 00:05:08.80\00:05:11.14 so I went to my wife and told her, 00:05:11.14\00:05:13.54 "Don't say anything, just keep praying." 00:05:13.54\00:05:16.21 Then one of the soldiers said, "If there is no one in this 00:05:16.21\00:05:19.08 "house just put a big bomb under it and blow it up." 00:05:19.08\00:05:22.15 But in the end they didn't do it and they just walked away. 00:05:23.55\00:05:26.86 The rebels took all the valuables 00:05:26.86\00:05:28.62 and animals from my neighbors. 00:05:28.62\00:05:30.56 The next morning all the neighbors came to my house 00:05:30.56\00:05:33.06 and asked, "Why didn't you open the door? 00:05:33.06\00:05:34.96 "They could have destroyed your house." 00:05:34.96\00:05:37.03 Then I told my neighbors, "I know now that Jesus 00:05:37.03\00:05:39.70 "is the real God because as you see, 00:05:39.70\00:05:42.10 "the shoes are in front of my house but they didn't see them 00:05:42.10\00:05:45.34 "and the door can be pushed open easily 00:05:45.34\00:05:47.38 "by one hand but two men could not push inside." 00:05:47.38\00:05:51.58 From that moment on I started to believe in God, 00:05:51.58\00:05:54.52 that He is a real God and that Jesus is a real God. 00:05:54.52\00:05:58.12 (foreign language) 00:05:59.12\00:06:02.12 - That's the reason. 00:06:04.63\00:06:06.13 - Wow, that's a really amazing story. 00:06:06.13\00:06:08.63 How long have you been church planting now? 00:06:09.73\00:06:12.03 - How many churches have you planted? 00:06:20.74\00:06:23.91 - Wow. - Cool. 00:06:24.75\00:06:25.81 - How long have you been here? 00:06:25.81\00:06:27.38 - Are there any challenges working to plant churches here? 00:06:31.42\00:06:34.82 - The first year that I was Oddar Meancheay 00:06:40.00\00:06:42.16 was also the year that the villagers faced drought. 00:06:42.16\00:06:45.47 There was no rain and all the crops died. 00:06:45.47\00:06:48.80 They thought we believed in a bad God, 00:06:48.80\00:06:50.84 that had cursed them so they didn't have rain or food. 00:06:50.84\00:06:53.84 So they said it was because of us 00:06:53.84\00:06:55.41 coming to live in this village 00:06:55.41\00:06:56.81 and because of the God that we believed in. 00:06:56.81\00:06:59.05 Some of them came with a big ax and wanted to kill me. 00:07:02.25\00:07:06.09 But I told them, "No, it's not my God 00:07:06.09\00:07:08.56 "that caused this problem. 00:07:08.56\00:07:09.99 "It's the weather itself that has changed." 00:07:09.99\00:07:12.66 (drowned out by child) 00:07:13.50\00:07:17.30 When that problem was gone, another problem came. 00:07:17.30\00:07:20.24 The soldiers came to my house and they shot my dog 00:07:20.24\00:07:23.04 and my chickens and took them all away. 00:07:23.04\00:07:25.14 They also didn't let their children 00:07:45.49\00:07:46.90 come and use the well at our house. 00:07:46.90\00:07:49.20 They said, "It's the well of Jesus. 00:07:49.20\00:07:51.03 "We hate Jesus so don't go there." 00:07:51.03\00:07:53.20 One night there was a group of soldiers drinking together 00:08:10.05\00:08:12.49 and they were planning to come to my house and kill me. 00:08:12.49\00:08:15.49 They had maybe seven guns. 00:08:15.49\00:08:17.33 Fortunately there was one man who disagreed with them. 00:08:17.33\00:08:20.06 He stood up and said, "Why are we going to harm him? 00:08:20.06\00:08:22.46 "He didn't do anything to us, 00:08:22.46\00:08:24.33 "he didn't harm us so why are we doing this?" 00:08:24.33\00:08:27.44 Then the other six men were afraid, 00:08:27.44\00:08:29.20 thinking that other people would hear about their plan 00:08:29.20\00:08:31.74 so they canceled it. 00:08:31.74\00:08:32.87 That was when I knew that God is my protector. 00:08:34.78\00:08:37.91 He protects me from all harm. 00:08:37.91\00:08:40.22 - Wow. 00:08:43.12\00:08:44.22 - Wow, you have a lot of exciting stories. 00:08:44.22\00:08:46.22 - Yeah. 00:08:46.22\00:08:47.59 - Could you share with us the really exciting one 00:08:47.59\00:08:49.56 about when your daughter died and came back to life? 00:08:49.56\00:08:52.79 - When my daughter was very young, 00:08:55.73\00:08:57.40 about three or four years old and learning how to walk 00:08:57.40\00:09:00.17 she got really sick. 00:09:00.17\00:09:01.70 She had a fever for about a week. 00:09:01.70\00:09:03.81 We didn't know what the sickness was 00:09:03.81\00:09:05.84 because we didn't have a hospital 00:09:05.84\00:09:07.34 in that village at the time. 00:09:07.34\00:09:09.34 Then one day she got even worse. 00:09:09.34\00:09:12.31 The years before when I was in the army 00:09:12.31\00:09:14.35 I learned that if a person is unconscious 00:09:14.35\00:09:16.48 for five to 10 minutes it means that the person is dead. 00:09:16.48\00:09:19.75 That day while I was holding her 00:09:25.23\00:09:27.20 because she was so sick, she had a really high fever. 00:09:27.20\00:09:31.00 Then her eyes closed. 00:09:31.00\00:09:32.87 One hour later she stopped breathing. 00:09:34.67\00:09:36.91 She was unconscious and did not breath for half an hour. 00:09:38.31\00:09:41.41 I knew that my daughter was dead 00:09:43.01\00:09:44.88 because no one can be unconscious 00:09:44.88\00:09:46.95 and not breath for half an hour. 00:09:46.95\00:09:48.95 My wife started crying a lot and screaming very loudly 00:09:51.15\00:09:54.42 because she knew that her daughter had died. 00:09:54.42\00:09:57.23 She was crying out to Jesus. 00:09:57.23\00:09:59.03 My older son ran back and forth screaming and crying. 00:10:02.20\00:10:05.90 - Run back and forth, screaming and crying. 00:10:05.90\00:10:09.10 - We only prayed to God because 00:10:10.17\00:10:11.67 we didn't know who could help us. 00:10:11.67\00:10:13.94 Then because my wife was screaming 00:10:13.94\00:10:15.48 so loudly the neighbors came. 00:10:15.48\00:10:17.45 They came and watched. 00:10:17.45\00:10:18.91 They saw that my daughter had already died. 00:10:18.91\00:10:21.55 She was lying on the floor and not breathing. 00:10:21.55\00:10:24.59 Then I prayed to God and said, 00:10:24.59\00:10:26.29 "If you want these people around me to know 00:10:26.29\00:10:28.42 "that you are a real God, please do a miracle." 00:10:28.42\00:10:31.83 So I picked up my daughter and took some water 00:10:31.83\00:10:34.10 in my hand and put it on her forehead. 00:10:34.10\00:10:36.26 My wife was still crying and screaming to Jesus. 00:10:36.26\00:10:39.53 Half an hour later my daughter started to open her eyes. 00:10:39.53\00:10:42.47 When she fainted her eyes ere wall white. 00:10:46.01\00:10:48.71 Now she started to open her eyes little by little. 00:10:50.98\00:10:54.38 I looked at her stomach and saw that it was moving. 00:10:54.38\00:10:57.05 She started breathing. 00:10:57.05\00:10:58.55 I had hope now that my daughter would live. 00:10:58.55\00:11:00.82 The neighbors around me that were watching 00:11:03.19\00:11:04.96 said that maybe I had some magic or something 00:11:04.96\00:11:07.13 to make my daughter live. 00:11:07.13\00:11:08.73 They said that if it happened to them 00:11:08.73\00:11:10.30 their children would just die. 00:11:10.30\00:11:12.17 I told them that it's not me, 00:11:12.17\00:11:13.80 "it's my Jesus, my God who did this. 00:11:13.80\00:11:16.47 I was so happy and had so much joy in my heart. 00:11:18.31\00:11:21.28 So I was thinking, what can I do 00:11:22.08\00:11:23.68 to make, like, a sign with God? 00:11:23.68\00:11:25.68 - Wow. 00:12:06.02\00:12:07.26 - What a great testimony of God's power. 00:12:07.26\00:12:09.99 And that was you, right? 00:12:09.99\00:12:11.26 - [Mary Ann] Wow. 00:12:12.09\00:12:12.99 - Praise the Lord. 00:12:14.96\00:12:15.93 - Well thank you so much for telling us your stories and, 00:12:17.33\00:12:21.00 (foreign language) 00:12:21.00\00:12:23.27 - You're welcome. 00:12:23.27\00:12:24.37 - We really enjoyed visiting with you guys 00:12:24.37\00:12:25.71 and getting to know more about what's going on here. 00:12:25.71\00:12:29.28 Thank you for sharing. 00:12:30.51\00:12:32.08 (foreign language) 00:12:32.08\00:12:35.08 It was so amazing to get to sit in the presence of someone 00:12:36.45\00:12:38.62 who was actually raised 00:12:38.62\00:12:39.75 from the dead. - Yeah. 00:12:39.75\00:12:40.86 - It was such a great display of God's power. 00:12:40.86\00:12:43.09 - Yeah, her parents had so much faith 00:12:43.09\00:12:45.49 and we can exercise faith 00:12:45.49\00:12:46.73 like that too. - Mmhmm. 00:12:46.73\00:12:48.30 - By not being afraid to answer when God calls us. 00:12:48.30\00:12:51.03 - Yeah, another good example is the next missionary 00:12:51.03\00:12:54.10 that we will be visiting. 00:12:54.10\00:12:55.00 - Mmhmm. - After visiting 00:12:55.00\00:12:56.50 the Global Mission pioneer, 00:12:56.50\00:12:58.11 we had to leave Wat Preah Puth. 00:12:58.11\00:12:59.81 We traveled from Siem Reap by van down to Kampong Cham 00:12:59.81\00:13:03.11 to meet Miranda Lundby. 00:13:03.11\00:13:04.18 - Mmhmm. - On the way we had to cross 00:13:04.18\00:13:06.11 the Mekong River by ferry. 00:13:06.11\00:13:08.05 - It was really hot and dusty. 00:13:08.05\00:13:09.45 - But all of Cambodia is. 00:13:09.45\00:13:10.89 - And you get used to it after a while. 00:13:10.89\00:13:12.55 - It's interesting that the majority 00:13:12.55\00:13:13.92 of the world's population lives where it's so hot. 00:13:13.92\00:13:16.56 - Mmhmm, but I guess that's where we need 00:13:16.56\00:13:17.79 to go and reach them. 00:13:17.79\00:13:19.16 - Yeah, so Miranda Lundby was a student missionary 00:13:19.16\00:13:22.13 with AFM when we visited her. 00:13:22.13\00:13:24.27 She was 20 years old and already working 00:13:24.27\00:13:26.40 on her master's in teaching. 00:13:26.40\00:13:27.94 - Her chosen life work is to set up schools 00:13:27.94\00:13:30.34 in small, poor villages as a way 00:13:30.34\00:13:32.11 to share Jesus with the people living there. 00:13:32.11\00:13:34.51 - She introduced us to her Cambodian family. 00:13:34.51\00:13:37.25 (rhythmic music) 00:13:39.18\00:13:40.95 (car horns) 00:13:40.95\00:13:41.78 (hooves trotting) 00:13:41.78\00:13:44.69 (bridge clacking) 00:13:53.06\00:13:55.93 (children chattering) 00:13:58.50\00:14:01.64 (donkey braying) 00:14:10.45\00:14:13.38 We're here in a Cambodian village 00:14:13.38\00:14:15.28 with Miranda Lundby and we're gonna ask her 00:14:15.28\00:14:17.59 some questions about what she does here. 00:14:17.59\00:14:19.65 - The first time that I actually did anything 00:14:26.26\00:14:28.73 involved in missions was going to Honduras 00:14:28.73\00:14:32.10 and doing a Share Him series with my sister. 00:14:32.10\00:14:35.60 I was 15 and we spoke to about 100 people each night. 00:14:35.60\00:14:40.38 So that was the first thing that got us into missions. 00:14:40.38\00:14:44.18 And then just ever since then 00:14:44.18\00:14:46.88 I've pretty much been obsessed. 00:14:46.88\00:14:48.65 (luaghter) 00:14:48.65\00:14:50.09 I've had lots of friends and family 00:14:50.09\00:14:53.42 who've also been interested in missions 00:14:53.42\00:14:54.72 so I've been inspired throughout my childhood 00:14:54.72\00:14:58.03 and teens to be involved in missions. 00:14:58.03\00:15:01.10 - So why did you come here to Cambodia? 00:15:01.10\00:15:03.77 - I chose to come here because I'd been here before. 00:15:03.77\00:15:08.04 So when I was young I had a friend 00:15:08.04\00:15:12.71 who had come to Cambodia and they'd had stories 00:15:12.71\00:15:15.81 all about it and it immediately 00:15:15.81\00:15:17.41 went to the top of my list of places I wanted to go. 00:15:17.41\00:15:20.12 So I got invited when I was 18 to come with another 00:15:20.12\00:15:25.19 gentleman and his family and my brother. 00:15:27.99\00:15:29.69 And so we all came and taught for a month and a half 00:15:29.69\00:15:33.56 and then when I left I knew it's where I wanted 00:15:33.56\00:15:36.83 to come back and work and I felt like God had really led 00:15:36.83\00:15:41.40 and showed me just how much I can give in this area. 00:15:41.40\00:15:46.47 - How long have you been here? 00:15:47.28\00:15:48.84 - I've been here five months this time. 00:15:48.84\00:15:51.35 - So you work with Muslims and stuff. 00:15:51.35\00:15:53.62 So you why are you wearing the head coverings? 00:15:53.62\00:15:56.52 - Well here, even though the Muslim religion 00:15:56.52\00:15:59.82 is a bit more nominal, they still have traditions 00:15:59.82\00:16:02.86 and things that are respectful in their community. 00:16:02.86\00:16:05.46 And the head coverings are respectful, 00:16:05.46\00:16:07.83 especially around the men. 00:16:07.83\00:16:09.90 Like if we're in the house and it's just ladies, 00:16:09.90\00:16:11.77 a lot of times we don't wear them 00:16:11.77\00:16:13.57 but when men who aren't related to us or are our elders 00:16:13.57\00:16:16.91 come in it's a sign of respect. 00:16:16.91\00:16:19.11 It's a modesty. 00:16:19.11\00:16:20.51 - And what do you do here? 00:16:22.54\00:16:24.35 - Right now I teach. 00:16:25.21\00:16:27.08 I teach three English classes. 00:16:27.08\00:16:31.22 One is Muslim with adults or older teens 00:16:31.22\00:16:34.39 and the other two are classes split up 00:16:34.39\00:16:37.19 by ages 5-10 and 10 to 15 or 16 years old. 00:16:37.19\00:16:41.13 - Could you share a story with us 00:16:42.23\00:16:43.83 about working here or something? 00:16:43.83\00:16:46.60 - It's kind of exciting because we have people 00:16:46.60\00:16:49.70 who are really interested when you come and work 00:16:49.70\00:16:52.04 in a community to know what you're doing 00:16:52.04\00:16:54.08 or why you're there. 00:16:54.08\00:16:55.84 You're just this white, young girl 00:16:55.84\00:16:57.18 that comes and decides to live with a family. 00:16:57.18\00:16:59.91 But nobody else, no other missionaries live here. 00:16:59.91\00:17:03.49 But they have had experience with other 00:17:03.49\00:17:06.29 Christian believing missionaries coming through. 00:17:06.29\00:17:09.29 And they have some friends that they really appreciate 00:17:09.29\00:17:12.19 in their life and so we actually have a couple of people 00:17:12.19\00:17:14.86 in this community who are believers in Jesus. 00:17:14.86\00:17:17.93 And they have Bibles and books and they're interested 00:17:17.93\00:17:22.20 in listening to what we have to say. 00:17:22.20\00:17:24.77 They talk to me about the Buddhist people 00:17:24.77\00:17:28.14 that live around them because they have a different 00:17:28.14\00:17:29.68 belief system so they see things 00:17:29.68\00:17:31.41 that they do that they don't like. 00:17:31.41\00:17:33.21 Or they think they're sinful. 00:17:33.21\00:17:34.58 But they talk to me about, oh we believe the same, 00:17:34.58\00:17:38.75 even though they're Muslim and I'm Christian, 00:17:38.75\00:17:40.49 the say that we have the same morals. 00:17:40.49\00:17:43.59 I was able to share with them 00:17:43.59\00:17:45.29 that it's not because I'm afraid of sin, 00:17:45.29\00:17:47.30 because they're very fear based. 00:17:47.30\00:17:49.40 They're afraid to sin because they don't want bad things 00:17:49.40\00:17:52.50 to come with sinning. 00:17:52.50\00:17:53.80 And I was able to share that I don't, 00:17:53.80\00:17:55.90 I choose not to sin because I love Jesus, 00:17:57.01\00:17:58.94 not because I'm afraid. 00:17:58.94\00:18:01.58 - Mmhmm. - Mmhmm. 00:18:01.58\00:18:02.71 - And that really got them thinking. 00:18:02.71\00:18:04.71 So those are a couple of stories that I've been able 00:18:04.71\00:18:07.02 to do in the short time I've lived here. 00:18:07.02\00:18:09.12 We're also hoping to do more Bible studies with them 00:18:09.12\00:18:13.86 but it is a little hard 00:18:13.86\00:18:16.42 because we have a lady who lives here. 00:18:16.42\00:18:19.03 She needs glasses so we're working to get her to the 00:18:19.03\00:18:22.60 capitol to be able to get her some glasses so that we can sit 00:18:22.60\00:18:25.17 down and actually have side by side Bible studies. 00:18:25.17\00:18:28.50 - How did missions change your worldview and ambitions? 00:18:28.50\00:18:33.24 - Well missions pretty much became my life worldview. 00:18:33.24\00:18:37.55 (laughter) 00:18:37.55\00:18:39.45 I think that as Christians all around the world 00:18:39.45\00:18:42.78 our worldview should be focused on God. 00:18:42.78\00:18:46.35 It should be a Biblical worldview 00:18:46.35\00:18:47.72 that encompasses focusing on Jesus first and foremost 00:18:47.72\00:18:51.93 and I think a lot of times we see cultural differences 00:18:51.93\00:18:54.93 and we think, oh something's not right or something's bad. 00:18:54.93\00:18:57.70 But it's just that it's different than what we know. 00:18:57.70\00:19:01.40 And if we can turn and see what's important to God 00:19:01.40\00:19:04.67 and what's important in His word 00:19:04.67\00:19:07.11 then we can see that there's actually 00:19:07.11\00:19:08.71 a lot more common ground to reach people with. 00:19:08.71\00:19:11.18 And as far as my ambitions, just doing missions full time 00:19:11.18\00:19:16.25 for as long as I can. 00:19:17.32\00:19:18.65 (laughter) 00:19:18.65\00:19:20.52 - So how can young people get involved in missions? 00:19:20.52\00:19:23.66 - Like you? 00:19:24.86\00:19:26.19 Well, there are a lot of opportunities, I would say. 00:19:26.19\00:19:29.36 What really helps is if you have 00:19:30.87\00:19:32.93 parents that are interested. 00:19:32.93\00:19:35.00 If your parents are interested, 00:19:35.00\00:19:35.97 invested in spreading the gospel, 00:19:35.97\00:19:40.38 then young people can be very involved. 00:19:40.38\00:19:44.41 There's a lot going on in the United States. 00:19:44.41\00:19:46.68 There's GYC and there's different camp meetings 00:19:46.68\00:19:50.05 and such that young people can get involved in. 00:19:50.05\00:19:51.55 And there's also mission trips that young people can do 00:19:51.55\00:19:55.02 through Share Him and Maranatha, 00:19:55.02\00:19:57.69 short term things. - Mmhmm. 00:19:57.69\00:19:59.03 - But also if you can learn abut other cultures 00:19:59.03\00:20:03.47 and you can see them, the sky is pretty much the limit. 00:20:03.47\00:20:08.54 Fundraising in the States, speaking, 00:20:09.67\00:20:11.04 going and visiting people and like you said, for you, 00:20:11.04\00:20:16.21 if you're younger, if your parents are involved 00:20:17.55\00:20:19.11 I would definitely suggest doing 00:20:19.11\00:20:21.05 as much enrichment as you can. 00:20:21.05\00:20:25.19 (laughter) 00:20:25.19\00:20:26.45 - You can get a heart for it. 00:20:26.45\00:20:27.56 - Yeah, get a heart for it and really, 00:20:27.56\00:20:30.29 I think sometimes being kids, young people, 00:20:30.29\00:20:33.66 I know I wanted to go out when I was, like, 13, 14, 00:20:33.66\00:20:37.67 I just wanted to go be a missionary. 00:20:37.67\00:20:39.10 But you can't do that. 00:20:39.10\00:20:40.47 You have family and you have to be with them 00:20:40.47\00:20:43.57 but I know that my parents continued to fuel that desire 00:20:43.57\00:20:48.54 and I think that is a big difference. 00:20:49.74\00:20:51.25 I know a lot of young missionaries I work with, 00:20:51.25\00:20:53.72 a lot of the reason that they're interested in missions 00:20:53.72\00:20:55.68 is that their family was interested in missions. 00:20:55.68\00:20:58.72 Or that they met somebody 00:20:58.72\00:20:59.92 who was really passionate about it. 00:20:59.92\00:21:01.72 So if you can stay passionate 00:21:01.72\00:21:05.36 and be able to share with people and have friends 00:21:05.36\00:21:08.93 that are passionate about the same thing, I would say 00:21:08.93\00:21:11.10 that friends are a big influence on young people. 00:21:11.10\00:21:13.70 And if you can have friends who are really, truly interested 00:21:13.70\00:21:16.30 in serving, then you can follow that desire 00:21:16.30\00:21:18.91 that God has for you. 00:21:18.91\00:21:20.74 I don't think it ever goes away. 00:21:20.74\00:21:22.41 - A lot of young people want to plan out their life, 00:21:23.85\00:21:25.91 they know what they want to be, 00:21:25.91\00:21:27.25 where they want to go to school, want to get married. 00:21:27.25\00:21:29.68 So what do you think about that? 00:21:29.68\00:21:32.65 - Well I would say I am a planner, 00:21:32.65\00:21:35.02 so I'm constantly trying to make plans 00:21:35.02\00:21:37.46 but the plan has changed probably 100 times. 00:21:37.46\00:21:40.40 And I think it happens that way for everybody. 00:21:40.40\00:21:43.20 God laughs when we make plans 00:21:43.20\00:21:44.97 and He has a better plan. 00:21:46.13\00:21:48.94 So while I think it is important to have goals 00:21:48.94\00:21:53.31 and to have aspirations and things you want to do, 00:21:53.31\00:21:57.25 because that's what really gives you the desire 00:21:57.25\00:22:00.25 to move forward in your life. 00:22:00.25\00:22:01.75 I think keeping Him as the front focus 00:22:02.85\00:22:07.69 is most important because when you give it up to Him 00:22:09.09\00:22:13.09 then He can make it a lot more exciting, 00:22:14.20\00:22:16.63 and a lot more interesting and even the struggles 00:22:16.63\00:22:19.50 that might come, they're easier 00:22:19.50\00:22:23.91 compared to trying to figure it out all by yourself. 00:22:23.91\00:22:26.57 - What should we plan for? 00:22:27.48\00:22:29.11 - I would say planning to be of greatest service 00:22:30.61\00:22:35.05 in this world and to be able to share 00:22:35.05\00:22:37.75 and teach souls for our next life. 00:22:39.19\00:22:42.02 Is probably the best education you can get. 00:22:42.02\00:22:44.99 So anything that can further your ability 00:22:44.99\00:22:47.86 to share about Jesus, about His love 00:22:47.86\00:22:51.93 and about the wonderful truth that we have 00:22:51.93\00:22:53.90 and His coming again soon. 00:22:53.90\00:22:55.60 I think that preparation is probably the best. 00:22:55.60\00:22:59.11 - Lay up treasure 00:22:59.11\00:23:00.14 in heaven. - Yes. 00:23:00.14\00:23:01.01 - I think treasure in heaven 00:23:06.92\00:23:08.02 is the souls that we can take with us. 00:23:08.02\00:23:10.19 It's the people and the friends that we make 00:23:10.19\00:23:12.35 with Jesus that we can be with for eternity. 00:23:12.35\00:23:16.62 - And could you show us where you stay? 00:23:29.14\00:23:32.14 = Well this is the house in which I stay 00:23:32.14\00:23:33.38 but they have offered me their bedroom. 00:23:33.38\00:23:35.68 It's one of their two bedrooms and so I think 00:23:35.68\00:23:38.15 I have taken the parents' room 00:23:38.15\00:23:40.12 but they wouldn't have it any other way. 00:23:40.12\00:23:42.52 So they sleep out in the open 00:23:42.52\00:23:44.72 but they have given me this room to use. 00:23:44.72\00:23:47.62 It has my teaching supplies in it and also where I sleep. 00:23:47.62\00:23:51.19 - [Lilyann] Ah, very nice. 00:23:51.19\00:23:52.66 - [Miranda] Thank you. 00:23:52.66\00:23:54.63 (soothing music) 00:23:54.63\00:23:58.07 - So the house actually, I think is really nice. 00:23:58.07\00:24:01.50 It's nicer, it's fancier, even though 00:24:01.50\00:24:04.31 it's all by hand silk. I think it looks nicer. 00:24:04.31\00:24:07.11 (motorbike engine revving) 00:24:18.49\00:24:22.16 (sheep bleating) 00:24:32.37\00:24:35.17 (foreign language) 00:24:38.47\00:24:41.48 - We're at a Cham house, where they make some clothes here. 00:24:43.11\00:24:46.72 It's like a tailor shop, I guess. 00:24:46.72\00:24:48.75 And they held English classes 00:24:48.75\00:24:51.72 or Sarah holds English classes so we wanted to come here 00:24:51.72\00:24:55.19 and see what she does and ask her a few questions. 00:24:55.19\00:24:58.73 - So why did you decide to come here 00:24:58.73\00:24:59.89 and work with the Cham People? 00:24:59.89\00:25:02.40 I wanted to come back to Cambodia because the whole 00:25:02.40\00:25:07.00 country. Because I was born in Cambodia 00:25:07.00\00:25:08.94 and I wanted to learn my language and also help my people 00:25:08.94\00:25:12.81 and teach English and most of all 00:25:12.81\00:25:15.11 spread Jesus hopefully wherever I go. 00:25:15.11\00:25:17.78 But the Cham People are very special. 00:25:17.78\00:25:19.65 They're actually Muslim and so they wear head coverings 00:25:19.65\00:25:22.22 and they're very extremely modest and, 00:25:22.22\00:25:24.95 (motorcycle engines) 00:25:30.19\00:25:33.33 - What do you do here? 00:25:47.18\00:25:48.68 - I teach English here, I tutor one student 00:25:48.68\00:25:51.85 and I teach him business vocabulary. 00:25:51.85\00:25:54.58 And then I teach about 30, around 30 students, younger 00:25:54.58\00:25:59.65 kids. I teach them basic English. 00:26:00.52\00:26:02.26 - How many classes do you teach? 00:26:02.26\00:26:03.93 - Three classes in total, every day. 00:26:03.93\00:26:06.19 - Especially student missionaries. 00:26:12.43\00:26:14.97 It's maybe the longest year of your life 00:26:16.04\00:26:19.91 but I think it's probably gonna be 00:26:19.91\00:26:21.28 the best year of your life too 00:26:21.28\00:26:22.61 'cause you get to experience so many different things 00:26:22.61\00:26:25.81 and it totally opens up your eyes to a different reality 00:26:25.81\00:26:30.22 and hopefully it will change you for life. 00:26:30.22\00:26:33.19 When I go back to the U.S., 00:26:33.19\00:26:34.52 I hope to not go back to the way I was 00:26:34.52\00:26:37.73 but continue developing into a new, more mature person 00:26:37.73\00:26:41.80 because of this. 00:26:41.80\00:26:43.10 - Well thank you for sharing with us. 00:26:43.10\00:26:44.77 - Yeah, thank you for coming. - And we enjoyed interacting 00:26:44.77\00:26:46.60 with your class a little bit. 00:26:46.60\00:26:47.60 (chuckling) 00:26:47.60\00:26:50.77 (hopeful music) 00:26:50.77\00:26:53.51 - That was so cool to see how she just lives 00:27:14.56\00:27:16.30 with the people and becomes their friend. 00:27:16.30\00:27:18.43 - I was so inspired by her enthusiasm. 00:27:18.43\00:27:21.00 - Yeah, it's evident that she really lets Christ 00:27:21.00\00:27:23.44 be the main focus of her life. 00:27:23.44\00:27:25.47 - Yeah, it's easy for us to become too enthusiastic 00:27:25.47\00:27:29.28 and rush into things that we think are what God 00:27:29.28\00:27:31.45 wants us to do. 00:27:31.45\00:27:32.58 It's important that we surrender to Him 00:27:32.58\00:27:34.42 and wait on Him while keeping heaven as our goal. 00:27:34.42\00:27:37.72 - And waiting doesn't man not doing anything either. 00:27:37.72\00:27:40.39 God can't direct your steps unless your feet are moving. 00:27:40.39\00:27:43.46 He will guide and lead us as we keep our eyes fixed on Him. 00:27:43.46\00:27:47.03 - See you next time on MissionTREK. 00:27:47.03\00:27:48.66 - And remember to pray for the unreached. 00:27:48.66\00:27:50.97 (inspirational music) 00:27:51.97\00:27:55.20
