very significant moment.

Jesus takes his

if He's gonna go and die
and I'm following that Savior,

gonna suffer as well.

Jesus provides that,

that statement about Peter.

You are Peter which
actually means a rock,

but in Greek it's
Petros, Petros and on this Petra

which is actually a
rock, "I will build my church,

and the gates of Hades will not"

Actually the church of
Christ is not build on Peter,

it's build on that
rock of Peter's confession.

Rock is Jesus Christ,
so Peter made confession

Jesus Christ, on that rock,

actually the church, the
church is supposed to be,

in some parts of the world

to become a Christian. Yeah.

But to follow Jesus
through much of history

it is still a life
threatening choice.

The disciples, look at them,
off the 12, we take out Judas,

how many of the rest suffered
and died for their Savior?

You see, how many Christians
we have in the western world,

they have a
chain around their neck

and they have huge
cross and this is they,

they really wear the
cross of Jesus Christ.

Actually, what Jesus
meant here, it was not that,

that famous
illusion what He said,

when Jesus bid
people to follow Him,

He made them to
die. To come and die.

With Him. To come,
to come and to die.

To be the followers of Jesus,
it really means to follow into

His footsteps and ready to
be ready to die with Jesus,

to be His
disciples until the very end.

Evidently Peter had hard time.

Jesus admitted with His
mouth that Jesus was the Messiah

and it is on that confession of
that rock the church is built.

However, when
Peter fails to recognize

the messiahship
of Jesus, the Messiah

who's supposed to
die, Peter becomes

a tool and instrument
in the hands of Satan.

And, you know, you
might be sitting there

thinking right now,
look I'm bearing my own cross

and I'm suffering too for Jesus.

Be assured that He
is very close to you.

Be assured that no
one goes to any place
00:05:27.62\00:05:30.79
where Jesus has not gone.

Jesus goes first to the cross.

Jesus is raised on
the resurrection day.

If you're bearing a cross today,

He's gonna bear with you

and He will go
through it all with you.

The problem with the Peter was,

it's obvious
problem on the base of

verses 26, 22, 24 through 26.

Peter wanted to follow Jesus,

but also to get
some benefit from them.

And Jesus says in verse 25,

"whoever wishes
to save his life."

Peter tried to prevent
Jesus to go to Jerusalem,
00:06:01.82\00:06:04.63
Jesus will die there.
00:06:04.66\00:06:05.99
They'll suffer as
well because of Him.
00:06:06.03\00:06:07.86
And Jesus says, "Whoever wishes
00:06:07.86\00:06:09.50
to save his life will lose
it, but whoever loses his life
00:06:09.53\00:06:13.10
for My sake will find it.
00:06:13.13\00:06:15.14
For what will it
profit to man if he gains
00:06:15.17\00:06:17.84
the whole world
and forfeits his soul?
00:06:17.87\00:06:21.14
Or what will a man give
in exchange for his soul?"

Evidently these words
change Peter completely,

especially the
experience that he had there,

just before the
day that Jesus died.

Actually, it is
exactly how Peter

finished his life
by dying on the cross.

Yes, that's exactly right.

Now, Ranko, moving on, I
want us to move to verse 28,

'cause there is a strange
statement here it would seem.

"Assuredly, I say to
you, there are some standing

here who shall not
taste death till they see

the Son of Man
coming in His kingdom."

Now the son of man
coming in His kingdom,

what does Jesus mean?

Actually, this is a
very difficult text.

But the Bible
students, they noticed something

very interesting in this,
that in old three synoptics.

We know what synoptics
are, Matthew, Mark and Luke.

All three of them
after this statement,

Unfortunately, many readers
of the Bible are confused,

division into
chapters, that's why

we stop reading this again.

Actually, the text goes on,

we have the
Transfiguration of Jesus

or the Mount of Transfiguration,

so everybody agrees
that actually this text

is the introduction
to the text that follows.

So the question is answered
by the story that happens next.

Mount of Transfiguration,

the disciples had a foretaste.

His glory of heaven.

verse 28, Jesus said,

"There are some of you."

Jesus did not say all
of you, "But some of you

who will not taste
death until they see

the Son of Man
coming in His kingdom."

And then verse 7--chapter
17 begins, six days after that.

Jesus took
Peter, James, and John.

They went there to the mountain.

I have been thinking a
lot about this text and I want

to understand how Jesus
appeared to His disciples.

text in the New Testament,

that I can understand

how Jesus transfigured
is Revelation Chapter 1.

that great portrait of Jesus.

say, hey, don't be afraid.

several significance,

you see, in the light of the
conservation in verses 9 to 11

between Jesus and His disciples.

The disciples asked
Jesus, is it true, we heard that

the Pharisees are talking
and the teachers are talking

that before the
Son of Man comes,

you know who is the Son of Man,

it's the Book of
Daniel Chapter 7,

"when Daniel saw the Son
of Man coming on the cloud"

so it's reference to
the second coming of Jesus.

When He comes on
the cloud, they said,

is it true that
Elijah will come first?

Jesus says that's true.

That's the prophecy
of the Old Testament.

By the way, this is the pointer

to Book of Malachi, the last
verses where Malachi said that,

"Before the
great and terrible day

the Lord comes, I will send

Moses my servant
and I will send Elijah."

So what do we have here,
we have the Moses and Elijah.

What is the
significance of this?

You see we're
talking about the great day

when Jesus comes which will
be actually the Judgment Day

for the people but
this event took place

right before the cross.

The cross was the
means of the salvation

for the human
race, when the Messiah

came to die for the human race.

But for all those
who rejected Jesus,

the cross was the
Judgment Day for them.

So the prophecy of
Malachi of the coming

of Moses and
Elijah was actually,

partially fulfilled with
the first coming of Jesus.

The Judgment came with
the first coming of Jesus.

That does make
sense. You see who is Moses?

Moses in the Old Testament,

he represents
the law, the torah.

The greatest authority.
The law. What about Elijah?

The prophets. Prophets.

We know that we have
in the Old Testament,

the law and the prophets.

You remember that
Jesus said that actually

He came according to
the law and the prophets.

We saw that the
Gospel of the Matthew

is routed in the
Old Testament prophecy.

Jesus came as the fulfillment
of the Law and prophecy.

But now they're on the
Mount of Transfiguration

before Jesus is in Jerusalem,

here, this event took
place on the way to Jerusalem.
