our app, 00:00:48.91\00:00:51.18 the Maranatha channel. 00:00:51.21\00:00:52.78 Go to maranatha.org/missionmaranatha 00:00:52.81\00:00:56.02 to learn more about this year's convention events. 00:00:56.05\00:00:58.59 More than 16 million people live in the country of Zambia. 00:01:51.01\00:01:54.11 Although this Sub-Saharan country 00:01:57.38\00:01:58.91 is most famous for wonders such as Victoria Falls, 00:01:58.95\00:02:02.02 most people can be found 00:02:02.05\00:02:03.55 living far off the beaten path. 00:02:03.59\00:02:05.35 Lilian lives in the village of Lwendge 00:02:20.67\00:02:22.44 with her husband and their 10 children. 00:02:22.47\00:02:25.34 A teacher by profession, 00:02:25.37\00:02:26.71 Lilian moved to the village years ago 00:02:26.74\00:02:28.28 to care for her disabled father. 00:02:28.31\00:02:29.84 Now she makes a meager living by traveling into the forest, 00:02:32.35\00:02:35.82 cutting down trees, and making charcoal. 00:02:35.85\00:02:38.99 Her situation is not ideal. 00:02:39.02\00:02:41.46 Farming or raising livestock are not options due to drought, 00:02:41.49\00:02:45.16 lack of financial resources, and clean water. 00:02:45.19\00:02:47.46 In fact, the nearest well is a few kilometers away 00:02:50.50\00:02:53.34 and Lilian must make several trips a day 00:02:53.37\00:02:55.37 to provide water for her family. 00:02:55.40\00:02:57.01 We suffer a lot here 00:02:59.57\00:03:01.84 because the water is very deep. 00:03:01.88\00:03:07.45 You can't dig with hands. 00:03:07.48\00:03:10.02 It's very difficult, anyway. 00:03:10.05\00:03:12.92 But we have to do it because water is life. 00:03:12.95\00:03:16.73 Despite the difficulties, Lilian has found strength, 00:03:25.13\00:03:27.90 through her faith, 00:03:27.94\00:03:29.27 connection to God and her local church. 00:03:29.30\00:03:32.07 It's important because I find it easy 00:03:32.11\00:03:36.95 when I am in difficulties, 00:03:36.98\00:03:38.71 I find that my members are the ones to empower me. 00:03:38.75\00:03:42.42 And that encouraged me also to do so 00:03:42.45\00:03:45.75 so that those who are in difficulties, 00:03:45.79\00:03:50.53 they can also be empowered as I was. 00:03:50.56\00:03:54.66 Lilian attends the Lwendge Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:03:54.70\00:03:57.90 This congregation started 15 years ago 00:03:57.93\00:04:00.20 and membership has grown to 78 members. 00:04:00.24\00:04:03.41 They are zealous 00:04:03.44\00:04:04.77 about spreading God's love to their neighbors. 00:04:04.81\00:04:08.04 The passion this group has for sharing Christ 00:04:08.08\00:04:10.31 is something you'll find all over the country. 00:04:10.35\00:04:12.38 Because of this, 00:04:12.41\00:04:13.75 Zambia is an area of the world 00:04:13.78\00:04:15.18 with one of the largest Adventist memberships. 00:04:15.22\00:04:18.72 What motivates them to become part of the church 00:04:18.75\00:04:20.99 is actually the knowledge that they receive 00:04:21.02\00:04:23.32 that Jesus loves them 00:04:23.36\00:04:25.39 even before them deciding to love Jesus. 00:04:25.43\00:04:28.40 But then He is the one 00:04:28.43\00:04:29.76 who first decided to love them. 00:04:29.80\00:04:31.40 And so when they realize that actually 00:04:31.43\00:04:33.23 we have someone who loves us or who loved us before, 00:04:33.27\00:04:36.64 then they are motivated to join the church. 00:04:36.67\00:04:40.34 This rapidly-growing church creates challenges. 00:04:40.38\00:04:43.55 Eddie Himoonde is the pastor of the Lwendge congregation, 00:04:43.58\00:04:47.22 but they are just one of the many groups 00:04:47.25\00:04:49.15 he is responsible for. 00:04:49.18\00:04:51.02 In my district, 00:04:51.05\00:04:52.39 I have 35 organized churches, 00:04:52.42\00:04:54.99 and the area is about 200 kilometers apart. 00:04:55.02\00:04:59.96 Yes, the whole district membership is about 11,260. 00:05:00.00\00:05:05.03 Caring for more than 11,000 members 00:05:05.07\00:05:07.50 is very demanding. 00:05:07.54\00:05:08.87 Visiting the numerous churches in his area 00:05:08.90\00:05:10.91 is a difficult endeavor, 00:05:10.94\00:05:12.27 especially since Pastor Himoonde 00:05:12.31\00:05:13.88 doesn't have access to reliable transportation. 00:05:13.91\00:05:16.95 Sometimes I take maybe a week or two weeks 00:05:16.98\00:05:20.28 just walking to the furthest church 00:05:20.32\00:05:23.32 because I don't have a car, I don't have a motorbike. 00:05:23.35\00:05:26.52 I walk. 00:05:26.55\00:05:27.99 And sometimes members, sometimes who agree, 00:05:28.02\00:05:30.09 they come and pick me up on their motorcycle. 00:05:30.13\00:05:32.39 They cycle me to that church. 00:05:32.43\00:05:33.76 But if there's no one 00:05:33.80\00:05:35.13 who's having even a bicycle in that area, 00:05:35.16\00:05:37.03 then I have to walk through, I sleep on the way, 00:05:37.07\00:05:39.43 wake up in the morning, 00:05:39.47\00:05:40.80 and then continue moving until I reach to that church. 00:05:40.84\00:05:43.54 And then I begin visiting the members now one on one, 00:05:43.57\00:05:46.78 praying with them, 00:05:46.81\00:05:48.14 seeing how they are doing and encouraging them. 00:05:48.18\00:05:50.51 Then I get back to my home again. 00:05:50.55\00:05:52.71 The large area makes visits few and far between. 00:05:52.75\00:05:57.12 In a year, it's once. 00:05:57.15\00:05:59.35 Yes. 00:05:59.39\00:06:00.72 On average, it's once because these 35 organized churches. 00:06:00.76\00:06:03.06 And then I still have smaller churches again, 00:06:03.09\00:06:05.29 about 20 of them, which also need my attention. 00:06:05.33\00:06:08.80 So if I visit this church here, 00:06:08.83\00:06:10.57 for me to rotate back to this church, 00:06:10.60\00:06:12.90 it's a challenge. 00:06:12.93\00:06:14.44 So what helps me basically is to train the laymen. 00:06:14.47\00:06:18.41 Laymen are well trained, 00:06:18.44\00:06:19.77 well-organized that even if I'm not there, 00:06:19.81\00:06:21.84 they'll still carry on with the activities. 00:06:21.88\00:06:23.24 And then they just give me the reports. 00:06:23.28\00:06:25.41 Unless there is something is so much challenging, 00:06:25.45\00:06:27.05 then they call me. 00:06:27.08\00:06:28.42 I quickly come their aid. 00:06:28.45\00:06:30.79 Pastor Himoonde relies on 00:06:36.76\00:06:38.09 dedicated members like Lilian 00:06:38.13\00:06:39.76 to keep the churches alive and vibrant. 00:06:39.79\00:06:42.16 But one element 00:06:42.20\00:06:43.53 many congregations are still missing 00:06:43.57\00:06:45.43 is an adequate place to worship. 00:06:45.47\00:06:47.74 Although some groups 00:06:47.77\00:06:49.10 are able to build church structures, 00:06:49.14\00:06:50.74 many are left worshiping under trees 00:06:50.77\00:06:52.84 or in simple shelters 00:06:52.87\00:06:54.21 like the members have built in the Lwendge. 00:06:54.24\00:06:57.91 The challenge that I face 00:06:57.95\00:06:59.31 when such incidents happen where we evangelize, 00:06:59.35\00:07:03.35 maybe public campaign, 00:07:03.39\00:07:04.72 then there people give themselves, 00:07:04.75\00:07:06.49 but then when they come to the actual church, 00:07:06.52\00:07:09.06 they find that actually 00:07:09.09\00:07:10.43 where we are worshiping is not conducive. 00:07:10.46\00:07:15.16 There are no seats, 00:07:15.20\00:07:17.10 they are worshipping under the tree 00:07:17.13\00:07:18.47 or maybe under the grass, 00:07:18.50\00:07:20.27 then it becomes a challenge for them to stay on. 00:07:20.30\00:07:23.77 They feel like they cannot really stay on this church. 00:07:23.81\00:07:28.24 They need a better structure. 00:07:28.28\00:07:29.98 We have some that actually leave this place 00:07:30.01\00:07:32.51 to go and worship in some far distant church 00:07:32.55\00:07:35.75 because there they have at least a structure 00:07:35.78\00:07:37.92 they have built. 00:07:37.95\00:07:39.29 But here they feel like, 00:07:39.32\00:07:40.66 "No. We cannot worship our God in this scenario." 00:07:40.69\00:07:44.43 The challenges Pastor Himoonde faces 00:07:44.46\00:07:46.23 are echoed all across Zambia. 00:07:46.26\00:07:48.56 There just aren't enough churches. 00:07:48.60\00:07:51.00 From 2009 to 2015, 00:07:51.03\00:07:53.27 Maranatha responded to a request 00:07:53.30\00:07:54.97 from the Adventist Church in Zambia 00:07:55.00\00:07:56.91 and built more than 300 churches 00:07:56.94\00:07:59.11 all over the country. 00:07:59.14\00:08:00.48 Since then, 00:08:00.51\00:08:01.84 Adventist membership in Zambia 00:08:01.88\00:08:03.21 has grown to more than 1.2 million people. 00:08:03.24\00:08:06.51 But the rapid growth means 00:08:06.55\00:08:07.95 there are still congregations 00:08:07.98\00:08:09.35 without proper places to worship. 00:08:09.38\00:08:11.49 In 2018, 00:08:11.52\00:08:12.85 Maranatha returned to Zambia 00:08:12.89\00:08:14.46 to once again build more churches. 00:08:14.49\00:08:16.99 This requires a dedicated local construction team 00:08:17.03\00:08:19.89 that travels from town to town 00:08:19.93\00:08:21.63 bringing the hope of a church to numerous congregations. 00:08:21.66\00:08:24.93 The process of building churches 00:08:24.97\00:08:26.70 includes two visits from the crew. 00:08:26.74\00:08:28.97 First, they travel to the site 00:08:29.00\00:08:30.67 to install metal bases anchored in concrete. 00:08:30.71\00:08:33.07 This ensures that the building has a solid foundation. 00:08:33.11\00:08:35.74 Once these bases harden and cure, 00:08:41.35\00:08:43.52 the crew loads up the necessary pieces 00:08:43.55\00:08:45.42 for the structure and roof 00:08:45.45\00:08:46.79 and return to complete the church. 00:08:46.82\00:08:49.26 Today, they're headed to Lwendge. 00:08:49.29\00:08:52.13 As the day passes, work steadily progresses. 00:08:52.16\00:08:54.96 The crew is joined by church members 00:08:55.00\00:08:56.77 and other people from the community. 00:08:56.80\00:08:58.67 Everyone is excited 00:08:58.70\00:09:00.04 about the new development in their town. 00:09:00.07\00:09:02.74 Having a proper structure in this area 00:09:02.77\00:09:04.71 actually is evangelism on its own. 00:09:04.74\00:09:07.78 Because like now, we are doing here at Lwendge, 00:09:07.81\00:09:10.71 Maranatha is giving us this structure, 00:09:10.75\00:09:13.05 it becomes easier for me even to evangelize 00:09:13.08\00:09:15.48 because just the structure itself will be preaching 00:09:15.52\00:09:17.85 to the people around here. 00:09:17.89\00:09:19.72 Already, people are already coming here 00:09:19.75\00:09:21.56 and seeing what is happening. 00:09:21.59\00:09:22.92 They just heard the noise here, the works that are going on. 00:09:22.96\00:09:25.79 People are asking, "What is happening here? 00:09:25.83\00:09:27.16 What is happening there?" 00:09:27.20\00:09:28.53 Then they believe that now we are worshipping a true God 00:09:28.56\00:09:30.87 because they have given us a structure. 00:09:30.90\00:09:32.77 And then the people will just come on their own. 00:09:32.80\00:09:35.14 Activity on the construction site 00:09:35.17\00:09:36.67 is already enlarging the Lwendge congregation. 00:09:36.71\00:09:39.64 Several members that had drifted away 00:09:39.67\00:09:41.31 from the group have returned 00:09:41.34\00:09:42.91 not only to help build their new church 00:09:42.94\00:09:44.88 but to reconnect with God and their church family. 00:09:44.91\00:09:48.12 We are very, very excited as a family, 00:09:48.15\00:09:52.69 not only as a family but the entire community. 00:09:52.72\00:09:56.62 We are very, very, very happy, 00:09:56.66\00:09:58.89 and we really appreciate the job well done. 00:09:58.93\00:10:04.47 This structure will even change many lives of people 00:10:04.50\00:10:10.01 because what they were crying for has now come. 00:10:10.04\00:10:14.68 God has answered our prayers through you. 00:10:14.71\00:10:19.15 And may God bless you abundantly. 00:10:19.18\00:10:22.72 And I think, next time, 00:10:22.75\00:10:25.29 we shall have more members than we have right now. 00:10:25.32\00:10:30.19 This simple steel frame is providing not only shelter 00:10:30.23\00:10:33.43 but hope for congregations all over Zambia. 00:10:33.46\00:10:37.20 It might look simple in their eyes, 00:10:37.23\00:10:39.63 but it is big in this community. 00:10:39.67\00:10:42.44 Because it has never happened before. 00:10:42.47\00:10:44.31 The people have never seen such a structure here. 00:10:44.34\00:10:47.28 You see even the houses around, if you're to move around, 00:10:47.31\00:10:50.05 there are no iron sheets around. 00:10:50.08\00:10:51.61 You just use the grass and stuff. 00:10:51.65\00:10:53.31 So when they see just this simple structure, 00:10:53.35\00:10:55.55 it's not simple as it may look like. 00:10:55.58\00:10:57.85 It is big. It will go a long way. 00:10:57.89\00:11:00.66 The ones that Maranatha has provided, 00:11:00.69\00:11:02.02 in the first place, 00:11:02.06\00:11:03.39 people are very happy about these structures. 00:11:03.43\00:11:05.79 So they are already calling, 00:11:05.83\00:11:07.16 "Pastor, we have already started now molding bricks 00:11:07.20\00:11:10.07 because we have seen that God has come to our aid." 00:11:10.10\00:11:12.57 They are now mobilizing themselves to mold the bricks, 00:11:12.60\00:11:15.37 burn the bricks and then begin building the walls. 00:11:15.40\00:11:19.57 If you come back next year, 00:11:19.61\00:11:20.94 you will not find them as open as they are now. 00:11:20.98\00:11:25.18 It's Sabbath morning 00:11:25.21\00:11:26.55 and Wana Church members are meeting for worship. 00:11:26.58\00:11:29.05 A few weeks ago, 00:11:29.08\00:11:30.42 their worship experience was far different 00:11:30.45\00:11:32.09 as they were meeting under 00:11:32.12\00:11:33.46 a wall-less thatched roofed structure. 00:11:33.49\00:11:35.62 Their attempt at constructing a church 00:11:35.66\00:11:37.39 sits vacant as the group ran out of resources 00:11:37.43\00:11:39.93 and had to abandon their efforts. 00:11:39.96\00:11:42.16 But then Maranatha came and built them a new church, 00:11:42.20\00:11:45.50 changing everything for this congregation. 00:11:45.53\00:11:48.47 On the structure when it was built, 00:11:48.50\00:11:50.17 we're motivated. 00:11:50.21\00:11:52.17 We did different kinds of evangelistic programs, 00:11:52.21\00:11:58.15 we invited a lot of people to see the structure 00:11:58.18\00:12:02.72 and how the Adventist movement as Maranatha has helped us. 00:12:02.75\00:12:07.36 It has brought a lot of things to us. 00:12:07.39\00:12:10.33 Yeah, even the way of worship, I think we have improved. 00:12:10.36\00:12:15.73 It is very important that Maranatha continues. 00:12:15.76\00:12:17.93 Actually, I'm still going through some pressure now 00:12:17.97\00:12:22.60 because other churches heard 00:12:22.64\00:12:24.87 that Maranatha is building and has built are saying, 00:12:24.91\00:12:27.51 "When are they coming he also? 00:12:27.54\00:12:29.28 Because we also need their help." 00:12:29.31\00:12:31.71 When we come back, 00:12:31.75\00:12:33.08 we'll leave the bush and head to Zambia's fourth largest city 00:12:33.11\00:12:36.42 where a small school is making a big impact. 00:12:36.45\00:12:39.45 As the Seventh-day Adventist Church continues to grow, 00:12:51.13\00:12:53.57 the need for proper places of worship increases. 00:12:53.60\00:12:56.50 But some congregations are in rugged remote locations 00:12:56.54\00:12:59.51 where traditional construction isn't possible. 00:12:59.54\00:13:02.61 Without good roads or access to the right materials, 00:13:02.64\00:13:05.18 it's physically and financially challenging to build. 00:13:05.21\00:13:08.55 Yet the need is still there. 00:13:08.58\00:13:10.45 People are worshipping in harsh conditions 00:13:10.49\00:13:12.25 in the hot sun, the rain, 00:13:12.29\00:13:14.42 in dark, cramped sheds, or under trees. 00:13:14.46\00:13:17.66 It's for these congregations 00:13:17.69\00:13:19.06 that Maranatha uses the one-day church, 00:13:19.09\00:13:21.50 a sturdy steel frame with a strong metal roof 00:13:21.53\00:13:24.33 that can be built in a single day. 00:13:24.37\00:13:26.47 These simple structures are strong enough 00:13:26.50\00:13:28.24 to withstand extreme weather 00:13:28.27\00:13:30.17 but light enough to haul into remote locations. 00:13:30.21\00:13:33.41 Help Maranatha bring more churches 00:13:33.44\00:13:35.14 to congregations who desperately need them. 00:13:35.18\00:13:37.55 Sponsor a one-day church. 00:13:37.58\00:13:39.38 Encourage your church, school, or family 00:13:39.41\00:13:41.82 to sponsor a portion 00:13:41.85\00:13:43.28 or an entire one-day church kit. 00:13:43.32\00:13:45.39 Give us a call or visit maranatha.org/oneday. 00:13:45.42\00:13:48.96 The city of Kabwe 00:13:54.06\00:13:55.40 sits in the Central Province of Zambia. 00:13:55.43\00:13:57.37 It was founded as a mining town. 00:13:57.40\00:13:59.30 And although the mines have closed, 00:13:59.33\00:14:00.94 commercial farming and other industries 00:14:00.97\00:14:02.94 continue to fuel Zambia's fourth biggest city. 00:14:02.97\00:14:06.64 Kabwe has a vibrant Adventist community. 00:14:06.68\00:14:09.21 Drive throughout the city 00:14:09.24\00:14:10.58 and you'll encounter dozens of Adventist churches 00:14:10.61\00:14:12.78 of all shapes and sizes. 00:14:12.81\00:14:15.15 But for many years, 00:14:15.18\00:14:16.52 the Adventist community 00:14:16.55\00:14:17.89 was lacking one major component, a school. 00:14:17.92\00:14:21.22 The schools that we had here are secular schools, 00:14:21.26\00:14:24.26 as well as Catholic schools, basically. 00:14:24.29\00:14:27.86 Now what used to disturb most of the Adventists, 00:14:27.90\00:14:32.43 particularly our conference workers, 00:14:32.47\00:14:34.57 was the issue of having those secular meetings 00:14:34.60\00:14:38.07 on the Sabbath. 00:14:38.11\00:14:39.84 Every time there's PTA, on Sabbath. 00:14:39.87\00:14:45.38 There's this kind of gathering, Sabbath. 00:14:45.41\00:14:47.65 Hey! 00:14:47.68\00:14:49.02 And it really disturbed them. 00:14:49.05\00:14:51.65 Every time they have to excuse themselves. 00:14:51.69\00:14:53.22 "No, Sorry." 00:14:53.25\00:14:54.59 They have to beat about the bush. 00:14:54.62\00:14:56.36 "I won't be available. 00:14:56.39\00:14:57.73 I'm traveling to such and such place. 00:14:57.76\00:14:59.83 There's this function." 00:14:59.86\00:15:01.26 Hence, there was need now that we come about, 00:15:01.30\00:15:04.53 we come out with this school for, 00:15:04.57\00:15:06.47 this church school. 00:15:06.50\00:15:08.70 In 2006, 00:15:08.74\00:15:10.07 the Kabwe Adventist School began with 64 students. 00:15:10.11\00:15:13.98 Each passing week was a matter of prayer 00:15:14.01\00:15:16.44 as no one knew if the school would survive. 00:15:16.48\00:15:19.71 And it began as a real baby. 00:15:19.75\00:15:24.45 No one was sure that this school would grow up 00:15:24.49\00:15:26.35 to what it is now. 00:15:26.39\00:15:28.36 Okay. Struggling with enrollment, 64 pupils. 00:15:28.39\00:15:34.06 That's how our school progressed. 00:15:34.10\00:15:38.37 It opened to the public on eight of January. 00:15:38.40\00:15:42.20 And the pupils in the class 00:15:42.24\00:15:44.44 maybe here, there are three, other class, there are four. 00:15:44.47\00:15:47.61 And you would wonder, 00:15:47.64\00:15:48.98 "Is this school ever going to be filled?" 00:15:49.01\00:15:51.61 But despite the small size, 00:15:51.65\00:15:53.28 they were devoted to providing the best, 00:15:53.31\00:15:55.25 most well-rounded education in town. 00:15:55.28\00:15:58.99 And enrollment grew. 00:15:59.02\00:16:01.36 Why? 00:16:01.39\00:16:02.72 Because it clicked in everyone's mind. 00:16:02.76\00:16:05.99 Most of our parents around 00:16:06.03\00:16:08.20 that Adventist education, 00:16:08.23\00:16:12.37 basically, it is a two-sided coin. 00:16:12.40\00:16:16.47 Okay. 00:16:16.50\00:16:17.84 The development of the spiritual being 00:16:17.87\00:16:19.64 as well as excellence in the world that we live in. 00:16:19.67\00:16:24.25 Thirteen years later, the baby school is thriving. 00:16:24.28\00:16:27.95 Enrollment has grown to more than 500. 00:16:27.98\00:16:30.32 And the campus now offers education 00:16:30.35\00:16:32.15 from preschool through secondary school. 00:16:32.19\00:16:35.22 Over the last decade, 00:16:35.26\00:16:36.59 the Kabwe Adventist School has set itself apart 00:16:36.62\00:16:39.09 in the sea of education choices in town. 00:16:39.13\00:16:41.30 Jericho, Jericho, 00:16:41.33\00:16:43.63 Jericho Joshua fought the battle of Jericho... 00:16:43.67\00:16:46.70 Local Adventist families aren't the only one 00:16:46.74\00:16:49.10 sending their children to study there. 00:16:49.14\00:16:50.67 Currently, 00:16:50.71\00:16:52.04 65% of the student population is non-Adventist. 00:16:52.07\00:16:55.68 The local community at large 00:16:55.71\00:16:57.11 has discovered high-quality education 00:16:57.15\00:16:59.31 offered on the campus. 00:16:59.35\00:17:01.68 The differences are quite subtle, right? 00:17:01.72\00:17:04.22 So we have the holistic approach of the physical, 00:17:04.25\00:17:07.06 the mental, and the spiritual faculties. 00:17:07.09\00:17:09.12 So when we are training their hands, 00:17:09.16\00:17:10.49 we're giving them a skillset 00:17:10.53\00:17:11.86 that other schools do not offer. 00:17:11.89\00:17:14.10 Mostly, people send their kids to school 00:17:14.13\00:17:16.30 just to get the intellectual aspect. 00:17:16.33\00:17:19.07 Have your kids, 00:17:19.10\00:17:20.64 you know, 00:17:20.67\00:17:22.00 astute and get them very schooled and learned. 00:17:22.04\00:17:26.17 But there's also a spiritual aspect to it. 00:17:26.21\00:17:27.81 There are certain challenges that people face in life 00:17:27.84\00:17:30.21 that your intellect might not get you through. 00:17:30.25\00:17:32.55 So you need that spiritual aspect. 00:17:32.58\00:17:34.65 You also need that skillset 00:17:34.68\00:17:36.02 to help you navigate through life's problems 00:17:36.05\00:17:37.82 and challenges quite easily. 00:17:37.85\00:17:39.59 One of the items that contributes 00:17:39.62\00:17:41.09 to the holistic education 00:17:41.12\00:17:42.46 offered at the Kabwe Adventist School 00:17:42.49\00:17:44.63 is an intentional focus on spiritual development. 00:17:44.66\00:17:47.70 The school staff includes a team of chaplains 00:17:47.73\00:17:49.66 led by most Mawuse Michello. 00:17:49.70\00:17:51.87 They care for the spiritual needs 00:17:51.90\00:17:53.47 of each and every person connected with the school. 00:17:53.50\00:17:56.50 So my function is to offer 00:17:56.54\00:17:58.81 the spiritual aspect of the school. 00:17:58.84\00:18:00.18 So remember we have the mental aspect, 00:18:00.21\00:18:02.68 we have the physical aspect. 00:18:02.71\00:18:04.75 So I help out with both the spiritual and the social 00:18:04.78\00:18:07.78 integration of the child. 00:18:07.82\00:18:09.82 And not just the pupils themselves 00:18:09.85\00:18:11.19 but also the staff members. 00:18:11.22\00:18:12.89 So we do works like counseling 00:18:12.92\00:18:15.92 for both staff members and pupils. 00:18:15.96\00:18:18.89 And even parents when they do see fit. 00:18:18.93\00:18:22.30 We do talk to parents when they come to get reports 00:18:22.33\00:18:24.83 for their children 00:18:24.87\00:18:26.20 and they do visit our office as well 00:18:26.23\00:18:28.04 just to help them understand 00:18:28.07\00:18:29.40 that we need a balance between the homeschooling 00:18:29.44\00:18:32.31 and the actual space that we have here 00:18:32.34\00:18:35.24 between the teacher and the child. 00:18:35.28\00:18:37.11 The chaplain's work is basically 00:18:37.15\00:18:38.85 quite massive at this place. 00:18:38.88\00:18:42.48 Mawuse has learned that 00:18:42.52\00:18:43.85 ensuring a child's emotional and spiritual needs are met 00:18:43.89\00:18:47.12 makes for more engaged students 00:18:47.16\00:18:49.36 encouraging and interacting with students 00:18:49.39\00:18:51.79 as well as visiting families in their homes 00:18:51.83\00:18:53.83 is a regular part of his work. 00:18:53.86\00:18:55.56 In this time and age in which we're living in, 00:18:55.60\00:18:57.63 a lot of homes are broken. 00:18:57.67\00:18:59.90 Those that are being made 00:18:59.93\00:19:01.27 are not made on the spiritual stance 00:19:01.30\00:19:03.81 that they should, 00:19:03.84\00:19:05.27 so it affects the well-being of the child psychologically, 00:19:05.31\00:19:08.18 it affects them socially. 00:19:08.21\00:19:09.64 They become very disruptive. 00:19:09.68\00:19:12.45 But if we can bring in that component 00:19:12.48\00:19:13.82 where we have a school, 00:19:13.85\00:19:15.18 where we build good citizens and candidates 00:19:15.22\00:19:17.72 for heaven as well, 00:19:17.75\00:19:19.09 it actually does a lot for this community 00:19:19.12\00:19:21.92 and the world to come as well. 00:19:21.96\00:19:23.29 So we need more than just this school, 00:19:23.32\00:19:26.96 but more schools to actually open up and help 00:19:27.00\00:19:29.33 with the social well-being of the community at large. 00:19:29.36\00:19:33.00 The quality of education offered 00:19:33.03\00:19:34.50 on the Kabwe campus 00:19:34.54\00:19:35.87 and the nurturing staff 00:19:35.90\00:19:37.24 has families flocking to the school. 00:19:37.27\00:19:39.64 When I first came here, 00:19:39.67\00:19:41.24 I did a sample 00:19:41.28\00:19:43.01 because I really wanted quality education in the kids. 00:19:43.04\00:19:48.85 So when I went around, 00:19:48.88\00:19:51.09 I was told there is Kabwe Adventist School 00:19:51.12\00:19:53.25 being a Christian school. 00:19:53.29\00:19:55.22 So I went there to look for space for the kids. 00:19:55.26\00:20:01.26 It was not easy 00:20:01.30\00:20:02.63 because space there are limited. 00:20:02.66\00:20:04.60 And they accepted me to take the children there. 00:20:04.63\00:20:09.90 Chileshe has three daughters,6 00:20:09.94\00:20:11.77 all attending the Kabwe Adventist School. 00:20:11.81\00:20:14.54 He lives 30 minutes outside the town, 00:20:14.58\00:20:16.64 which makes the commute to school a bit challenging. 00:20:16.68\00:20:19.11 But to him, the drive is worth it. 00:20:19.15\00:20:21.78 Education is very important. Me, I never had that chance. 00:20:21.82\00:20:28.59 My parents, they didn't work well 00:20:28.62\00:20:31.09 on my foundation. 00:20:31.13\00:20:33.09 So I did want to create 00:20:33.13\00:20:37.10 a very good foundation for them. 00:20:37.13\00:20:39.57 And it's an investment. 00:20:39.60\00:20:41.44 I'm trying to budget for it. 00:20:41.47\00:20:43.71 I really want to invest in them so that even when I die, 00:20:43.74\00:20:47.38 once they finish school, they're going to survive. 00:20:47.41\00:20:50.31 So education is the best gift that I can give a child. 00:20:50.35\00:20:54.62 So I've not even looked at the distance. 00:20:54.65\00:20:57.15 It's far from here to town. 00:20:57.19\00:20:59.65 But I'm one of those who are trying 00:20:59.69\00:21:01.32 at least to give quality education. 00:21:01.36\00:21:04.76 Chileshe's assessment of the school 00:21:04.79\00:21:06.43 is shared by other parents 00:21:06.46\00:21:07.90 who want the best education for their children. 00:21:07.93\00:21:10.67 I looked around the schools around Kabwe, 00:21:10.70\00:21:15.14 but when I found that the quality of the education 00:21:15.17\00:21:19.17 you're providing there is much more qualitative 00:21:19.21\00:21:22.11 than any other schools. 00:21:22.14\00:21:26.21 That's what brought me there. 00:21:26.25\00:21:28.85 The school has impacted me in a very big way 00:21:28.88\00:21:33.15 because you are providing 00:21:33.19\00:21:37.73 that kind of holistic type of education. 00:21:37.76\00:21:43.23 You get a child 00:21:43.26\00:21:44.60 but you treat that child like your own. 00:21:44.63\00:21:48.34 Then by the time they're coming out of your school, 00:21:48.37\00:21:53.27 they are real citizens of our Zambia. 00:21:53.31\00:21:58.28 Gordon's daughter Precious is in secondary school 00:21:58.31\00:22:01.05 and is the top student in her class. 00:22:01.08\00:22:03.12 He is grateful 00:22:03.15\00:22:04.49 for the excellent academic program at Kabwe. 00:22:04.52\00:22:06.59 And the icing on the cake 00:22:06.62\00:22:07.96 is the relationship they build 00:22:07.99\00:22:09.39 with the school's faculty and staff. 00:22:09.42\00:22:11.93 We are even good friends with the teachers. 00:22:11.96\00:22:14.76 I know their contact numbers, they've been into my home, 00:22:14.80\00:22:18.47 I've been to the school. 00:22:18.50\00:22:19.83 And each time there is anything concerning our child, 00:22:19.87\00:22:24.54 they contact me. 00:22:24.57\00:22:26.94 Chileshe, Gordon, 00:22:26.98\00:22:28.31 and their families are not Adventist, 00:22:28.34\00:22:30.25 but they feel fortunate 00:22:30.28\00:22:31.61 to be part of the Kabwe Adventist School family. 00:22:31.65\00:22:34.22 Demand at the school is high, but space is very limited. 00:22:34.25\00:22:38.39 Parents, they really want to take their children 00:22:38.42\00:22:40.16 at Kabwe Adventist School. 00:22:40.19\00:22:42.52 But there is no space, and the staff, 00:22:42.56\00:22:47.46 they have restricted themselves in growing their number. 00:22:47.50\00:22:51.83 They have put the control measure there. 00:22:51.87\00:22:54.57 They don't just accept anyone because of their space. 00:22:54.60\00:22:58.61 So they cannot accommodate, the classrooms, 00:22:58.64\00:23:02.04 the space is not enough for expansion. 00:23:02.08\00:23:05.55 Because now we also have a challenge of enrollment. 00:23:05.58\00:23:08.38 Because many people are coming, okay. 00:23:08.42\00:23:09.88 They have realized that Adventist education is sweet. 00:23:09.92\00:23:16.19 They want to taste that sweetness. 00:23:16.22\00:23:19.56 And every time we just say, 00:23:19.59\00:23:21.26 "No. There's no space." 00:23:21.30\00:23:23.40 The ideal design is for about 450. 00:23:23.43\00:23:28.60 But we do extend because of the large amount of people 00:23:28.64\00:23:32.44 who want to bring the kids here. 00:23:32.47\00:23:33.98 So you have quite a long list of people 00:23:34.01\00:23:36.41 who are on the waiting list, 00:23:36.44\00:23:37.95 in case someone goes off on transfer, 00:23:37.98\00:23:40.15 they will easily bring their child here. 00:23:40.18\00:23:41.85 But we don't have space for everyone as yet. 00:23:41.88\00:23:44.62 There are more than 500 students meeting in a space 00:23:44.65\00:23:47.52 designed for less 00:23:47.56\00:23:48.89 and a long waiting list for admission. 00:23:48.92\00:23:51.19 The school needed to grow, 00:23:51.23\00:23:52.93 but they had no resources to do so. 00:23:52.96\00:23:55.06 Plus, the current campus is landlocked 00:23:55.10\00:23:57.03 with no physical space to expand. 00:23:57.07\00:23:59.67 From 2009 to 2014, 00:23:59.70\00:24:02.47 Maranatha constructed seven schools in Zambia. 00:24:02.50\00:24:05.64 When the growing need for churches and schools 00:24:05.67\00:24:07.51 brought us back to the country in 2018, 00:24:07.54\00:24:09.88 the expansion of the Kabwe School 00:24:09.91\00:24:11.81 was high on the list of needs. 00:24:11.85\00:24:14.02 Local church leaders identified a large plot of land 00:24:14.05\00:24:16.82 and Maranatha quickly began construction 00:24:16.85\00:24:18.79 on a 12-classroom campus. 00:24:18.82\00:24:21.12 The new site will be for elementary students, 00:24:21.16\00:24:23.22 moving them out of cramped facilities 00:24:23.26\00:24:25.19 and into spacious classrooms. 00:24:25.23\00:24:27.10 This also enables the secondary school 00:24:27.13\00:24:28.96 to expand into the existing elementary classrooms. 00:24:29.00\00:24:32.53 When you go into the new campus, 00:24:32.57\00:24:34.07 you see the new buildings that are coming up. 00:24:34.10\00:24:36.50 It actually gives you hope 00:24:36.54\00:24:37.87 that we have more spaces and more doors 00:24:37.91\00:24:40.84 that are open to allow pupils to come through. 00:24:40.88\00:24:43.45 And the beauty of it is, 00:24:43.48\00:24:47.12 for every child that will go through, 00:24:47.15\00:24:48.48 they'll have an opportunity 00:24:48.52\00:24:49.85 to actually meet Christ in the classroom. 00:24:49.88\00:24:52.12 So the more blocks you have, 00:24:52.15\00:24:53.96 the more opportunities for Christ you have 00:24:53.99\00:24:55.79 to expose Him to the community at large. 00:24:55.82\00:24:57.96 Most of them will never have an opportunity 00:24:57.99\00:24:59.46 to get to a church building 00:24:59.49\00:25:00.83 to actually listen to the Gospel. 00:25:00.86\00:25:02.36 But when they come to Christian school, 00:25:02.40\00:25:03.77 that's the one opportunity they have. 00:25:03.80\00:25:05.60 So you actually have more of an opportunity 00:25:05.63\00:25:07.40 to minister to them and to share Christ with them. 00:25:07.44\00:25:09.77 So it's beautiful 00:25:09.80\00:25:11.14 when we see the campus growing that much. 00:25:11.17\00:25:13.11 We have more spaces open 00:25:13.14\00:25:15.01 to actually preach the Gospel to them. 00:25:15.04\00:25:18.25 This school, it is God Himself that is building it. 00:25:18.28\00:25:24.25 But He cannot come from heaven to come and mold bricks. 00:25:24.29\00:25:26.82 But through His agents, He's able to do that. 00:25:26.86\00:25:29.26 So the coming of Maranatha International, 00:25:29.29\00:25:31.63 it's not a human dream. 00:25:31.66\00:25:35.80 No. No, no, no, no, no. 00:25:35.83\00:25:37.67 God Himself puts things in place. 00:25:37.70\00:25:40.87 He has got a plan for everything. 00:25:40.90\00:25:42.87 And at every moment, 00:25:42.90\00:25:44.24 He puts things in place and they just fit in. 00:25:44.27\00:25:48.58 Maranatha's work to provide churches, schools, 00:25:48.61\00:25:51.21 and water wells 00:25:51.25\00:25:52.58 is answering prayers all over Zambia. 00:25:52.61\00:25:55.22 But we need your help. 00:25:55.25\00:25:57.59 Help us provide water 00:25:57.62\00:25:59.22 to communities that are thirsty. 00:25:59.25\00:26:00.66 Help us expand opportunities 00:26:04.33\00:26:06.29 for children to learn about their world. 00:26:06.33\00:26:08.56 And the princess gave him a name. 00:26:11.67\00:26:15.97 Do you know the name? 00:26:16.00\00:26:17.54 Who can guess? 00:26:17.57\00:26:18.91 Me. You? 00:26:18.94\00:26:20.28 Moses. Moses. 00:26:20.31\00:26:21.64 Help us spread hope 00:26:21.68\00:26:23.08 through the construction of churches. 00:26:23.11\00:26:24.95 Projects in Zambia are in need of funding. 00:26:24.98\00:26:27.52 And you can help by making a donation. 00:26:27.55\00:26:30.89 Many of the people who walk through those doors 00:26:30.92\00:26:32.89 who never knew Christ at the very start, 00:26:32.92\00:26:35.19 once they get to know Him 00:26:35.22\00:26:36.56 and they make their choice for Him, 00:26:36.59\00:26:38.13 it would be nice for you to actually get those messages. 00:26:38.16\00:26:41.70 When you get to heaven, someone come and say, 00:26:41.73\00:26:43.06 "Thank you for giving." 00:26:43.10\00:26:44.57 So it's an opportunity for us to actually serve humanity. 00:26:44.60\00:26:47.70 You might never be the best of preachers, 00:26:47.74\00:26:49.64 you might never make it to history books to be known, 00:26:49.67\00:26:52.54 to be people who've helped humanity so much. 00:26:52.57\00:26:56.08 But when we give the donations that we can, 00:26:56.11\00:26:58.25 we come and help build the school, 00:26:58.28\00:27:00.18 we send our kids to this place, 00:27:00.22\00:27:01.92 those are the few contributions 00:27:01.95\00:27:03.28 that will actually make so much of a difference 00:27:03.32\00:27:05.29 to people around. 00:27:05.32\00:27:06.65 So making a difference 00:27:06.69\00:27:08.02 in just one child's life is very important. 00:27:08.06\00:27:09.39 And I would ask you to try and do it. 00:27:09.42\00:27:12.26 Yeah, it's an opportunity in life to serve God 00:27:12.29\00:27:15.03 in just this small space. 00:27:15.06\00:27:17.73 You may not realize even as Maranatha, 00:27:17.77\00:27:19.57 the work that you are doing now, 00:27:19.60\00:27:20.94 how far it will go, 00:27:20.97\00:27:22.30 and how far it goes in the minds of the people. 00:27:22.34\00:27:24.47 So it is quite important 00:27:24.51\00:27:25.84 that Maranatha continues building 00:27:25.87\00:27:27.31 these structures here 00:27:27.34\00:27:28.71 because, at the end of the day, 00:27:28.74\00:27:30.08 people praise God 00:27:30.11\00:27:31.45 for this work that you are doing. 00:27:31.48\00:27:32.81
