in an economic decline

situation is no less true

for the Seventh-day
Adventist membership.

So the idea of building churches

felt like an impossible dream.

is not a well-known place

So the church leaders
started with an organization

island to assess the need,

have a new place of worship.

this was the start of a new home

for Manuel Frota and his family.

materials were stolen,

salary as a shoe cobbler

could not afford more wood.

Then a couple years later,

began hosting Bible
studies on his property.

Soon the meetings grew
into actual Sabbath worships

Churches aren't the only way

Yet there is only one
Adventist campus in the country.

The Cosme Mota Adventist School

outskirts of the capital city.

and it was the first
Adventist school to open

In the 1960s and 1970s,
all private schools were closed

by the Portuguese
communist government

Independence

the Adventist Church

a piece of land

to start a school.

from scratch was no easy task.

struggling economically,

raise enough funds
