Hello, this is the Maranatha Minute. 00:00:01.06\00:00:02.74 Recently more than 50 Maranatha volunteers 00:00:02.77\00:00:05.44 returned from Brazil, where we organized 00:00:05.47\00:00:07.50 our first volunteer project in the country, since 1997. 00:00:07.53\00:00:11.58 The primary purpose of the trip was to construct two churches 00:00:11.61\00:00:14.60 for congregations who lacked proper places to worship. 00:00:14.63\00:00:17.94 Both groups previously rented worship facilities 00:00:17.97\00:00:20.98 but a lack of space limited their ability to grow. 00:00:21.01\00:00:24.42 Thanks to the hard work of volunteers. 00:00:24.45\00:00:26.34 Both congregations now have churches, 00:00:26.37\00:00:28.54 they can call their own. 00:00:28.57\00:00:30.60 In addition to construction, volunteers spend time 00:00:30.63\00:00:33.53 in the community promoting healthy living. 00:00:33.56\00:00:35.95 Local children learned about fresh air, 00:00:35.98\00:00:38.23 exercise and dental health through games and activities. 00:00:38.26\00:00:42.19 Brazil is just one of several countries 00:00:42.22\00:00:44.51 Maranatha will be focusing on in 2014. 00:00:44.54\00:00:47.78 So learn more about how you can be involved, 00:00:47.81\00:00:50.09 visit our website at maranatha.org. 00:00:50.12\00:00:53.39 Coming up, we go to Panama 00:00:53.42\00:00:55.32 where families are working together 00:00:55.35\00:00:57.16 to build a school for a community in Santiago. 00:00:57.19\00:01:00.04 The schools and churches that Maranatha volunteers 00:01:18.14\00:01:20.55 have built for the people of Panama, 00:01:20.58\00:01:22.15 continue to have a huge impact 00:01:22.18\00:01:24.04 on the country and on our congregation. 00:01:24.07\00:01:27.22 So much so that Adventist church leaders 00:01:27.25\00:01:29.61 have invited Maranatha to come back 00:01:29.64\00:01:31.99 and build more schools and more churches. 00:01:32.02\00:01:36.28 The volunteers who are working on this one right here 00:01:36.31\00:01:39.91 are putting together a brand new school 00:01:39.94\00:01:43.03 in Santiago, Panama 00:01:43.06\00:01:45.09 right in the centre of the country. 00:01:45.12\00:01:47.98 Hi, Dick. Hey, guys. 00:01:48.01\00:01:49.27 Good to see you, Ernie, Seth everybody. 00:01:49.30\00:01:53.08 Yeah, you can see, doesn't matter what age you are, 00:01:53.11\00:01:56.39 you can make it a difference through Maranatha. 00:01:56.42\00:01:59.30 In Panama, this is the summer family climax. 00:01:59.33\00:02:03.17 Maranatha. 00:02:03.20\00:02:06.54 If we were one of those ants 00:02:06.57\00:02:08.09 if we were like a miniature, this is them 00:02:08.12\00:02:10.36 and we have to carry out probably weigh about 100 pounds. 00:02:10.39\00:02:13.39 On Sabbath we went to the certain church 00:02:17.48\00:02:19.55 out in the country, 00:02:19.58\00:02:20.61 and the children learned more than 00:02:24.05\00:02:26.65 what--what's transpired during the church service 00:02:26.68\00:02:29.47 because right outside the church they could see 00:02:29.50\00:02:32.65 there is a large trail is the leafcutter ants 00:02:32.68\00:02:35.73 that they could see them working so assiduously. 00:02:35.76\00:02:38.61 Wow. 00:02:38.64\00:02:40.27 The kids were absolutely fascinated 00:02:40.30\00:02:42.68 by watching them carry their leafs to these paths 00:02:42.71\00:02:46.46 and I think they saw the hard work in the ants. 00:02:46.49\00:02:50.70 And it was a better lesson for them 00:02:50.73\00:02:51.89 than they got from the church so here its-- 00:02:51.92\00:02:54.80 Can't go back, oh man, this didn't go around the way. 00:02:54.83\00:02:57.94 How can they always know the sense of direction? 00:02:57.97\00:02:59.89 Oh, they collect them, too. 00:02:59.92\00:03:01.29 Pancakes are awesome. 00:03:01.32\00:03:02.60 Yep, and the fruit from Panama, pineapples are amazing. 00:03:02.63\00:03:07.14 We have two young boys and they are getting, 00:03:07.17\00:03:11.02 almost to teenage years and, you know, 00:03:11.05\00:03:15.15 we felt that we want to give them 00:03:15.18\00:03:17.02 a little bit of perspective, 00:03:17.05\00:03:20.04 you know, may be getting appreciation for how they live 00:03:20.07\00:03:26.40 and give them sort of an understanding of the value 00:03:26.43\00:03:29.71 and how fortunate we do have things in the United States. 00:03:29.74\00:03:32.63 Yummy fish, Omega-3, that might be catfish there. 00:03:37.70\00:03:42.21 I knew it's gonna be all right, the very first day we got here, 00:03:42.24\00:03:45.81 because my kids nigga ready to have once 00:03:45.84\00:03:49.36 a dinner the first night. 00:03:49.39\00:03:51.35 They went outside and then they just explore nature. 00:03:51.38\00:03:54.60 And they came back with all of these amazing creatures, 00:03:54.63\00:03:57.49 though I had not even known were out. 00:03:57.52\00:03:59.39 The place is Santiago, Panama. 00:04:08.06\00:04:10.57 And the activities that has these parents talking 00:04:10.60\00:04:13.78 and the kids and all 00:04:13.81\00:04:15.65 is Maranatha's summer family project. 00:04:15.68\00:04:18.97 Maranatha Volunteers International 00:04:19.00\00:04:21.42 as the name implies, creates volunteer opportunities 00:04:21.45\00:04:25.21 for people all over the world, 00:04:25.24\00:04:27.59 twice a year, summer and winter. 00:04:27.62\00:04:30.09 The focus is specifically on families. 00:04:30.12\00:04:33.95 Yeah, we know that it was really impossible for our kids 00:04:33.98\00:04:36.55 to really understand lot of the things we read in the Bible 00:04:36.58\00:04:39.76 about taking care of the least of these 00:04:39.79\00:04:41.28 and going and teaching all nations 00:04:41.31\00:04:43.29 while we sat comfortably in our community. 00:04:43.32\00:04:45.58 Well they have all of their needs met. 00:04:45.61\00:04:47.94 They never even met anybody, 00:04:47.97\00:04:49.51 that didn't get three meals a day. 00:04:49.54\00:04:51.99 You know wanted to make sure they understood 00:04:52.02\00:04:53.77 the reason why God had given us the blessings we have. 00:04:53.80\00:04:57.71 Living in America I see a lot of our kids growing up, 00:04:57.74\00:05:02.33 in a very self-directed society. 00:05:02.36\00:05:07.54 It's all about me. 00:05:07.57\00:05:09.58 People want to take care of themselves in general, 00:05:09.61\00:05:12.44 and I wanted for my kids to be able 00:05:12.47\00:05:14.44 to look outside of themselves to be able to help others 00:05:14.47\00:05:18.75 and this has more than exceeding my expectations. 00:05:18.78\00:05:21.74 It has opened their world that they have must-- 00:05:21.77\00:05:24.80 that they can do something to help others 00:05:24.83\00:05:26.98 but also has given them a bigger picture of what our mission is. 00:05:27.01\00:05:32.27 Maranatha goes to great lengths to make the worksite safe. 00:05:32.30\00:05:37.21 The leaders, construction professionals themselves 00:05:37.24\00:05:40.57 also lead spiritually. 00:05:40.60\00:05:43.80 You know, being a construction superintendent, 00:05:43.83\00:05:45.90 do I want to produce a bunch of blocks 00:05:45.93\00:05:47.59 that are laid correctly. 00:05:47.62\00:05:49.99 Yes, that is Jesus interested in moraine those blocks 00:05:50.02\00:05:54.01 being laid correctly 00:05:54.04\00:05:55.81 for the manner in which they get laid. 00:05:55.84\00:05:59.92 So the manner in which we work makes all the difference. 00:05:59.95\00:06:04.61 For me, it starts with worship in the morning 00:06:04.64\00:06:07.89 before we start work. 00:06:07.92\00:06:08.95 Yeah after lunch we have another time to set apart 00:06:08.98\00:06:11.79 to listen to what Gods doing in my heart, your heart. 00:06:11.82\00:06:15.67 What does it look like to worship while you work. 00:06:15.70\00:06:21.27 We got a lot of friends asking that question. 00:06:21.30\00:06:24.30 I came into this trip, really with expectation 00:06:24.33\00:06:26.69 to as such to build a school. 00:06:26.72\00:06:29.59 My family and my wife and myself felt 00:06:29.62\00:06:31.88 there was gonna be a construction project, 00:06:31.91\00:06:34.06 really where we felt that we would be contributing 00:06:34.09\00:06:36.76 by helping, you know, build a physical plant 00:06:36.79\00:06:39.25 and I think what we have taken out of this trip 00:06:39.28\00:06:42.11 is so much more. 00:06:42.14\00:06:44.41 It really has been a daily walk with God 00:06:44.44\00:06:47.74 its essentially 24x7 worship and prayers. 00:06:47.77\00:06:52.34 Yeah, that we really have been completely surprised by. 00:06:52.37\00:06:56.75 Take your mat and go home. 00:06:56.78\00:07:01.35 So he got up and ran all the way home. 00:07:01.38\00:07:06.18 When you come back you will see that a family project 00:07:06.21\00:07:09.78 is much more than laying block. 00:07:09.81\00:07:14.00 Ten dollars, no its not much by itself, 00:07:14.03\00:07:16.72 but with my $10 and your $10 00:07:16.75\00:07:18.93 and dozens and dozens of others $10 it heads up. 00:07:18.96\00:07:22.92 With Maranatha here is what happens. 00:07:22.95\00:07:25.51 All of this cash builds a church. 00:07:25.54\00:07:27.73 A church in a place where $10 is hard to come by. 00:07:27.76\00:07:31.57 If you see one of these churches you quickly realize 00:07:31.60\00:07:34.17 how significance your $10 gift is. 00:07:34.20\00:07:36.69 Your little fellow $10 church friends, 00:07:36.72\00:07:39.30 you've done far or more that build place of worship. 00:07:39.33\00:07:41.84 This is where community happens. 00:07:41.87\00:07:44.81 At this church you helped build, we welcome new life, 00:07:44.84\00:07:48.09 celebrate love, share each others grief and mourning. 00:07:48.12\00:07:52.21 Your $10 not only builds a church, it builds community. 00:07:52.24\00:07:56.97 We think it's so important, we have created $10 church plan. 00:07:57.00\00:08:00.42 Signup today at tendollarchurch.org 00:08:00.45\00:08:03.70 and for just $10 you will help establish 00:08:03.73\00:08:06.71 a new Christian community 00:08:06.74\00:08:08.78 for the construction of a new church. 00:08:08.81\00:08:13.49 Maranatha Summer Family Projects, 00:08:13.52\00:08:15.80 always include construction. 00:08:15.83\00:08:18.25 They shares project in Santiago, Panama. 00:08:18.28\00:08:21.31 Also included a number of other activities 00:08:21.34\00:08:24.16 planned in otherwise. 00:08:24.19\00:08:26.64 If you were musical you could enjoy 00:08:26.67\00:08:28.72 the impromptu band serenading diners. 00:08:28.75\00:08:32.19 For the adventurer there was a hike 00:08:32.22\00:08:34.84 deep into a highland tropical forest 00:08:34.87\00:08:37.28 for a natural spring and waterfall 00:08:37.31\00:08:39.59 provided beauty and sport. 00:08:39.62\00:08:42.02 There was opportunity to visit places like the Panama Canal, 00:08:42.05\00:08:47.00 one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World 00:08:47.03\00:08:50.82 or swim in the Pacific Ocean waters 00:08:50.85\00:08:53.03 streaming into the Gulf of Panama. 00:08:53.06\00:08:56.62 Most meaningful for the volunteers 00:08:56.65\00:08:58.71 was hosting a health expo at a nearby elementary school. 00:08:58.74\00:09:03.40 Seven stations run by volunteers of all ages taught children 00:09:03.43\00:09:07.93 important health and life principles. 00:09:07.96\00:09:11.74 In the evening, team leaders with medical training 00:09:11.77\00:09:14.86 visited nearby churches and offered health lectures 00:09:14.89\00:09:18.66 benefiting the local community. 00:09:18.69\00:09:21.59 Many of the mom's and dad's on this project 00:09:21.62\00:09:24.27 were medical professionals. 00:09:24.30\00:09:26.40 Part of their mission to Panama was a one day medical clinic. 00:09:26.43\00:09:30.59 We drove out couple hours into an indigenous part of Panama 00:09:30.62\00:09:35.29 and, you know, that up with the local people 00:09:35.32\00:09:39.31 and when we first got there, 00:09:39.34\00:09:40.41 there was only about 10 or 15 people in line 00:09:40.44\00:09:43.51 that sort of knew we are coming. 00:09:43.54\00:09:45.03 So all we ended up doing was 00:09:45.06\00:09:47.58 with pretty concise communication 00:09:47.61\00:09:50.78 amongst members of the team and with our volunteers 00:09:50.81\00:09:53.90 essentially down from the high school and colleges kids 00:09:53.93\00:09:57.35 organizing sermons of triage process 00:09:57.38\00:10:00.89 where they can have an initial intake assessment 00:10:00.92\00:10:03.13 done by medical provider or medical doctor 00:10:03.16\00:10:05.96 and from that area sort of disseminate 00:10:05.99\00:10:08.10 to the proper resource to the pharmacy 00:10:08.13\00:10:10.35 or medical clinic or dental clinic. 00:10:10.38\00:10:12.30 Many of these people had, you know, 00:10:12.33\00:10:15.31 medical problems, some were minor, 00:10:15.34\00:10:18.48 some were little more serious and we did the best we could. 00:10:18.51\00:10:22.41 But I think they really don't have much exposure 00:10:22.44\00:10:25.76 to physicians and nurses. 00:10:25.79\00:10:28.07 And we even had dentists on the trip 00:10:28.10\00:10:30.63 and they extracted about 40 or 50 teeth. 00:10:30.66\00:10:34.00 And so I think just being there, being able to pray with them, 00:10:34.03\00:10:38.09 giving then reassurance that they were doing well, 00:10:38.12\00:10:39.91 that their heart sounded good, that their lungs sounded good. 00:10:39.94\00:10:43.45 And I think a lot of them 00:10:43.48\00:10:44.69 getting the blessing out of that. 00:10:44.72\00:10:46.26 Being there literally about half an hour to set up clinic 00:10:46.29\00:10:49.92 that ultimately at the end of the day tallied over, 00:10:49.95\00:10:53.02 over 300 members of community 00:10:53.05\00:10:56.55 that we actually ended up treating 00:10:56.58\00:10:58.04 with a variety of medical and dental services. 00:10:58.07\00:11:01.68 Family projects also give parents some alone time. 00:11:01.71\00:11:05.79 Usually when we go places 00:11:05.82\00:11:07.83 we always divided one with this kid, one with that. 00:11:07.86\00:11:10.12 So our goal this mission was 00:11:10.15\00:11:11.76 to try to do something's together. 00:11:11.79\00:11:13.89 So we had an opportunity to actually pair up in painting 00:11:13.92\00:11:17.35 and paint this one section of the wall. 00:11:17.38\00:11:19.57 And she took the roller, went up and down 00:11:19.60\00:11:21.47 and I came behind and try to kind of filling the cracks. 00:11:21.50\00:11:24.62 It was really kind of neat. 00:11:24.65\00:11:25.90 My wife and I been looking for chances all week long 00:11:25.93\00:11:28.94 that we can try to do something together 00:11:28.97\00:11:31.14 because we kind of wanted just to be a little bit of warming 00:11:31.17\00:11:33.07 experience for the two of us. 00:11:33.10\00:11:34.47 And so it was really actually 00:11:34.50\00:11:35.75 very nice to be able to do that together. 00:11:35.78\00:11:38.81 A family project is the perfect place to bond. 00:11:38.84\00:11:41.87 It has also become the perfect place 00:11:41.90\00:11:43.95 for families to plan for baptism. 00:11:43.98\00:11:46.58 For Grayson Slacker's this special event 00:11:46.61\00:11:49.49 was with his grandfather in the hotel pool. 00:11:49.52\00:11:52.58 For Nicolas Abrahams and Isaac Brunbowl 00:11:52.61\00:11:56.03 it was on the ocean. 00:11:56.06\00:11:57.83 One thing that's so inspiring to be about this trip 00:11:57.86\00:12:00.37 is that there are great families, great people 00:12:00.40\00:12:05.24 that come on these trips 00:12:05.27\00:12:07.24 and they really love God, 00:12:07.27\00:12:13.81 they love Christ, they serve. 00:12:13.84\00:12:17.92 They have a missionary heart. 00:12:17.95\00:12:20.21 And being around these people here 00:12:20.24\00:12:22.59 makes me want to be like them. 00:12:22.62\00:12:24.78 And you know that's what church is all about 00:12:24.81\00:12:29.23 and being here had been almost like being a church for me. 00:12:29.26\00:12:33.15 You know, that a good thing 00:12:35.69\00:12:37.92 because everyone here really has inspired me. 00:12:37.95\00:12:40.52 And I am hoping I can take this back home 00:12:40.55\00:12:42.97 and try and gain inspiration for others 00:12:43.00\00:12:45.09 that I come in contract with. 00:12:45.12\00:12:47.38 Last night we were discussing our prayers, 00:12:47.41\00:12:50.54 each one of us in the family, 00:12:50.57\00:12:52.86 our prayers for this church building, for this school. 00:12:52.89\00:12:57.22 And my son Phillip, 00:12:57.25\00:12:59.87 it will touch my heart that he said, 00:12:59.90\00:13:01.61 well, my prayer is that from this church building, 00:13:01.64\00:13:04.69 from this school many schools and many churches 00:13:04.72\00:13:09.64 would be built as a result of it 00:13:09.67\00:13:11.36 and that maybe in the kingdom. 00:13:11.39\00:13:12.68 And that touched my heart very much. 00:13:12.71\00:13:15.32 Well, that was the whole point that I wanted for them 00:13:15.35\00:13:18.05 to think of others 00:13:18.08\00:13:22.64 and to mention as Seventh-day Adventists 00:13:22.67\00:13:26.16 and for him to want to see this church 00:13:26.19\00:13:29.02 and this school prosper and grow 00:13:29.05\00:13:31.78 and make any source of the kingdom, 00:13:31.81\00:13:33.85 that's the very point of coming here. 00:13:33.88\00:13:35.93 And to see the change in him, I am thankful for that. 00:13:35.96\00:13:40.62 One other things I really do talk about is 00:14:22.76\00:14:25.70 at several times is that it doesn't matter 00:14:25.73\00:14:27.95 whether you are eating or whether or you are doing worship 00:14:27.98\00:14:30.10 or whether you are teaching a guy to lay block 00:14:30.13\00:14:32.00 it's kind of ministry or worship. 00:14:32.03\00:14:35.83 Worship. 00:14:35.86\00:14:37.32 I think this trip I was on a plane, 00:14:37.35\00:14:40.25 having been on a trip so usually 00:14:40.28\00:14:42.02 I have to fly. Yeah. 00:14:42.05\00:14:43.49 Just talking with the Lord 00:14:43.52\00:14:44.77 and it was really there's something special 00:14:44.80\00:14:47.29 that you like to see happen 00:14:47.32\00:14:49.53 or is it going to be another back like mission trip. 00:14:49.56\00:14:52.48 And I thought of worship came my mind 00:14:52.51\00:14:55.30 and as soon as that thought came I remembered 00:14:55.33\00:14:57.46 I grew up on a farm where we worked a lot. 00:14:57.49\00:15:02.73 A lot. Yes, early in the morning, late at night 00:15:02.76\00:15:05.96 and the cows was always there. 00:15:05.99\00:15:08.52 Yeah, I used to get up and milk the cows 00:15:08.55\00:15:10.33 before I went to school, 00:15:10.36\00:15:11.50 I used to come home, feed the cows 00:15:11.53\00:15:12.96 and then I, during the summer 00:15:12.99\00:15:16.20 I would have to go harvest all the egg. 00:15:16.23\00:15:17.98 It was work. I hear that. 00:15:18.01\00:15:20.23 Work, there's W, that's a big letter. 00:15:20.26\00:15:23.83 The thought came to mind is 00:15:23.86\00:15:25.48 what if we first of all... 00:15:25.51\00:15:27.91 set a goal to worship 00:15:30.93\00:15:33.61 instead of set a goal to work. 00:15:33.64\00:15:36.25 So taking actual part let's just assume that 00:15:36.28\00:15:38.74 you got your own farm land. Yeah. 00:15:38.77\00:15:40.51 And you got six cows and budget. Yes. 00:15:40.54\00:15:44.01 How would you transfer this concept to that farm? 00:15:44.04\00:15:48.81 Are you gonna make milking the cows to worship? 00:15:48.84\00:15:52.76 I start by not doing it by myself. 00:15:52.79\00:15:55.99 Oh really. Yeah. 00:15:56.02\00:15:58.33 We get a different experience 00:15:58.36\00:16:01.21 when we're with other people 00:16:01.24\00:16:03.55 and on a Maranatha mission trip that's one thing 00:16:03.58\00:16:07.15 that's usually planning all these people. 00:16:07.18\00:16:10.70 And it's easy to worship when you doing stuff together? 00:16:10.73\00:16:13.17 Oh man, it's like God shows up in you, 00:16:13.20\00:16:18.48 and it is funny today and He makes me laugh. 00:16:18.51\00:16:21.81 For example He shows up in a seven year old kid 00:16:21.84\00:16:24.13 with his big huge fat smile. Yeah. 00:16:24.16\00:16:27.14 It invites us not to stop working 00:16:27.17\00:16:30.79 but to focus more on why we are actually here. 00:16:30.82\00:16:36.93 And did you said, something that's really intrigues you, 00:16:36.96\00:16:39.55 God shows up as a seven year old child 00:16:39.58\00:16:43.43 with a big smile or somebody who is laughing. 00:16:43.46\00:16:47.54 Did you sense that, that the volunteers 00:16:47.57\00:16:50.07 that you work with are like God showing up in your life? 00:16:50.10\00:16:53.78 In a huge ways. 00:16:53.81\00:16:55.19 And this is what's really sobered me to the idea, 00:16:55.22\00:16:58.10 let's worship not that most first time volunteers 00:16:58.13\00:17:02.35 are rather uncertain and insecure. 00:17:02.38\00:17:05.91 That's' very true. With their capacity to work. 00:17:05.94\00:17:10.10 It's like the lady who was working here 00:17:10.13\00:17:12.00 on self discover this afternoon who said, 00:17:12.03\00:17:14.64 I can't remember-- told me, 00:17:14.67\00:17:16.34 I just didn't worry about the blocks I figured 00:17:16.37\00:17:18.45 oh, don't be professionals there to do that. 00:17:18.48\00:17:20.01 Yeah, guess what? 00:17:20.04\00:17:21.85 Jesus is gonna make you the professional. 00:17:21.88\00:17:25.27 And that's a part of worship. Yes. 00:17:25.30\00:17:29.03 To realizing that as a leader on a mission trip 00:17:29.06\00:17:32.95 I have a big responsibility to make sure that 00:17:32.98\00:17:36.90 I am bringing up that volunteer and 00:17:36.93\00:17:41.27 I can't do that because I am a contractor, man. 00:17:41.30\00:17:43.46 I know how to get it done. 00:17:43.49\00:17:44.66 If I don't, my family doesn't eat. 00:17:44.69\00:17:46.58 Yeah. And so if these people don' get it done, 00:17:46.61\00:17:48.70 your workers don't get it done, you find new workers. 00:17:48.73\00:17:51.32 Yes. But on a mission trip it's a goal is not so much work 00:17:51.35\00:17:58.06 but you just take your offerings, 00:17:58.09\00:18:00.29 one day at a time no matter 00:18:00.32\00:18:01.58 whether you are a better block layer 00:18:01.61\00:18:03.31 or me or you are a better cook or you are seven or 87, 00:18:03.34\00:18:06.75 it's a goal is to worship. 00:18:06.78\00:18:10.11 It's crazy because God, 00:18:10.14\00:18:12.59 He gets everything done the same 00:18:12.62\00:18:15.93 that we get worship while we work. 00:18:15.96\00:18:18.92 There's nothing better than taking an influence 00:18:18.95\00:18:21.95 the first time volunteer who doesn't even know 00:18:21.98\00:18:24.55 what a trowel is. Yeah. 00:18:24.58\00:18:26.51 And then five days later 00:18:26.54\00:18:29.41 we want the best block layres on the trip. 00:18:29.44\00:18:33.81 That's what God does with me, right. 00:18:33.84\00:18:36.89 And it start out I want to be the best husband 00:18:36.92\00:18:39.36 or dad or I want to be a good student. 00:18:39.39\00:18:44.00 I make a mess of it and till I give it to the God 00:18:44.03\00:18:48.50 and then I went back and said, 00:18:48.53\00:18:50.83 how did you do that? It was miracle. 00:18:50.86\00:18:54.59 So I had a volunteer 00:18:54.62\00:18:57.91 and he really didn't want to lay some block, 00:18:57.94\00:19:00.75 he was part of the team doing something else, right. 00:19:00.78\00:19:04.40 But I like that moment 00:19:04.43\00:19:06.72 when the person is busy doing that things 00:19:06.75\00:19:09.41 because they honestly 00:19:09.44\00:19:10.61 aren't really good at laying the blocks. 00:19:10.64\00:19:11.67 The block, yeah. 00:19:11.70\00:19:13.29 When they get it and they say, I am done, 00:19:13.32\00:19:16.58 it's a God moment, right? It is. 00:19:16.61\00:19:18.73 So I grab that person, I said, come over here. 00:19:18.76\00:19:21.98 I want you to lay couple of blocks 00:19:22.01\00:19:25.03 and it wasn't couple of minutes, it was about 25 minutes 00:19:25.06\00:19:29.43 and as I walk by I can see that he was struggling with that. 00:19:29.46\00:19:33.00 It's a hard work. Yeah. 00:19:33.03\00:19:35.13 And I looked at him and assisted and in fact, 00:19:35.16\00:19:38.39 I didn't see what was going on 00:19:38.42\00:19:40.44 but the block would not go down to the string 00:19:40.47\00:19:43.59 and he looked to me and I looked to him and I said-- 00:19:43.62\00:19:46.76 The string is wrong. The string is wrong. 00:19:46.79\00:19:49.16 No, it's not. The string is actually always... 00:19:49.19\00:19:51.92 Right. Yeah. 00:19:51.95\00:19:53.70 Something is going on with this block. 00:19:53.73\00:19:56.31 And so I took the block off 00:19:56.34\00:19:58.41 and there laying hidden in the mortar was this rock, right. 00:19:58.44\00:20:04.76 Which changes everything. 00:20:04.79\00:20:06.24 You couldn't get it to where it supposed to be 00:20:06.27\00:20:09.08 and you twist it and move it and tap it 00:20:09.11\00:20:13.22 and he looked at me and I looked at him 00:20:13.25\00:20:14.71 and I just took the rock out 00:20:14.74\00:20:16.53 and this block-- Just settled. 00:20:16.56\00:20:18.85 Settled right on the string 00:20:18.88\00:20:20.87 and he spent like 25 minutes trying to figure it out. 00:20:20.90\00:20:25.45 And I, we just looked to each other and smile 00:20:25.48\00:20:27.62 and its like isn't-- isn't that what God does. 00:20:27.65\00:20:32.02 He invites us to something that's holy. 00:20:32.05\00:20:35.65 Yeah, and his string is where it is. 00:20:35.68\00:20:39.11 Yet there are things in our life 00:20:39.14\00:20:41.46 that are keeping from happening, right. 00:20:41.49\00:20:44.85 And He comes along and takes that rock and says, 00:20:44.88\00:20:48.75 here it is, this is the culprit. 00:20:48.78\00:20:53.43 And it came back 00:20:53.46\00:20:54.61 right where it supposed to be in like 30 seconds. 00:20:54.64\00:20:57.43 And this string goes up. One block at a time. 00:20:57.46\00:21:00.34 And worship does happen. 00:21:00.37\00:21:03.95 In a totally different way, totally different angle 00:21:03.98\00:21:07.66 every single experience had the different way it happens. 00:21:07.69\00:21:12.34 Like there's not just, this is worship, right. 00:21:12.37\00:21:15.52 No, no, no, like, worship-- Every part of it. 00:21:15.55\00:21:18.70 Every morning it's different, every afternoon it's different. 00:21:18.73\00:21:21.21 Unique to you, to me, to the guy laying the block. 00:21:21.24\00:21:25.37 That's a creative God. 00:21:25.40\00:21:26.51 What you are talking about 00:21:29.59\00:21:30.76 in its simplest form is John Chapter 15, 00:21:30.79\00:21:35.74 when the Holy Spirit comes to lead you in the altar 00:21:35.77\00:21:39.13 and everyday, all day 00:21:39.16\00:21:40.19 he's busy whispering and blowing 00:21:40.22\00:21:42.02 and sound of the gentle whisper and all of the rest. 00:21:42.05\00:21:46.63 And it's just exciting to think of that 00:21:46.66\00:21:48.98 as constantly happening on Maranatha Mission trips. 00:21:49.01\00:21:52.75 It does. 00:21:52.78\00:21:53.85 And then you don't have to be a professional. 00:21:53.88\00:21:56.86 In fact it's best if you are not. 00:21:56.89\00:21:58.36 Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity 00:22:02.53\00:22:04.57 that doesn't require a long airplane ride 00:22:04.60\00:22:06.69 or a passport? 00:22:06.72\00:22:08.19 Maranatha's work to build churches 00:22:08.22\00:22:09.99 and schools includes North America. 00:22:10.02\00:22:12.27 And we have two projects this summer that need your help. 00:22:12.30\00:22:15.84 First, Maranatha is organizing a project 00:22:15.87\00:22:18.25 at the Faith Adventist Christian School in Summit, Mississippi. 00:22:18.28\00:22:21.85 This small school has been in operation 00:22:21.88\00:22:23.95 for the past four years 00:22:23.98\00:22:25.50 and they need help expanding their facility 00:22:25.53\00:22:27.57 so they can reach more students and their families. 00:22:27.60\00:22:30.64 You can help them reach their goal 00:22:30.67\00:22:32.42 by volunteering June 11 to 25 then from July 9 to 23. 00:22:32.45\00:22:37.96 Join us as we help the Hardeeville Spanish 00:22:37.99\00:22:40.24 Seventh-day Adventist church in South Carolina. 00:22:40.27\00:22:43.00 Their previous church building burned down in 2011 00:22:43.03\00:22:46.65 and they are stepping out in faith 00:22:46.68\00:22:48.39 to rebuild with Maranatha's assistance. 00:22:48.42\00:22:51.19 There is no participation fee for either of these projects. 00:22:51.22\00:22:54.34 All you need to do is get there. 00:22:54.37\00:22:56.73 For more information on these projects and more 00:22:56.76\00:22:59.34 visit our website at maranatha.org. 00:22:59.37\00:23:02.46 There's something incredibly special 00:23:02.49\00:23:04.34 about Maranatha Family Project. 00:23:04.37\00:23:07.10 It doesn't matter where it takes place, 00:23:07.13\00:23:08.61 doesn't matter what they're building, 00:23:08.64\00:23:09.93 doesn't even matter how many people come, 00:23:09.96\00:23:11.39 or who comes, it's always the same. 00:23:11.42\00:23:14.58 This project celebrates three incredible gift of God, 00:23:14.61\00:23:18.62 marriage which of course was 00:23:18.65\00:23:20.57 what He created on the seventh day, 00:23:20.60\00:23:23.08 marriage and love. 00:23:23.11\00:23:24.69 A good friend who says that 00:23:24.72\00:23:26.35 got spent six days putting the world together 00:23:26.38\00:23:28.20 on the seventh day God created love. 00:23:28.23\00:23:31.56 Well that's something we experience and celebrate 00:23:31.59\00:23:35.38 on a Maranatha Family Project. 00:23:35.41\00:23:38.33 The second is the arrival of children 00:23:38.36\00:23:41.26 and the way they grew up, 00:23:41.29\00:23:43.98 that was important to Adam and Eve. 00:23:44.01\00:23:45.35 And you can imagine how absolutely awestruck they were 00:23:45.38\00:23:49.03 when their children started coming into the world. 00:23:49.06\00:23:51.68 We get to play with kids, 00:23:51.71\00:23:53.86 we used to play with kids from long time, 00:23:53.89\00:23:56.82 solemn, husband and wife, father, mother homes. 00:23:56.85\00:24:01.77 We used to play with kids from broken homes, 00:24:01.80\00:24:03.97 we get to play with adopted kids, 00:24:04.00\00:24:05.55 we get to play with every kind of kid 00:24:05.58\00:24:06.97 you can dream up. 00:24:07.00\00:24:08.43 They all come on Maranatha Family Projects. 00:24:08.46\00:24:11.60 They come supportive by those who love them most. 00:24:11.63\00:24:16.55 The third thing we get to celebrate is service. 00:24:16.58\00:24:19.26 During this project these kids, they have helped, 00:24:19.29\00:24:23.43 worked in teaching other children 00:24:23.46\00:24:26.94 basic principles of health. 00:24:26.97\00:24:28.48 They've talked to them about God, 00:24:28.51\00:24:29.90 they talked to them about Jesus 00:24:29.93\00:24:32.11 and they have celebrated with their families 00:24:32.14\00:24:35.57 what it means to belong to Christ. 00:24:35.60\00:24:38.66 There's a fourth special celebration. 00:24:38.69\00:24:42.00 It seems like it always happens, 00:24:42.03\00:24:43.60 every time we have a family project 00:24:43.63\00:24:45.98 doesn't matter whether it's Christmas 00:24:46.01\00:24:47.15 for the middle a summer 00:24:47.18\00:24:48.71 we get to celebrate the ordinance of baptism. 00:24:48.74\00:24:52.17 Remember what Jesus said about baptism, 00:24:52.20\00:24:54.26 you can't really be whole 00:24:54.29\00:24:56.66 until you die and are born again. 00:24:56.69\00:24:59.72 We see that happen on every single family project. 00:24:59.75\00:25:05.53 I think often as I watch these kids about the day 00:25:05.56\00:25:09.17 an angel woke up Phillip and said. 00:25:09.20\00:25:11.44 I got a job for you, 00:25:11.47\00:25:13.06 it's gonna be a quick one, hang on. 00:25:13.09\00:25:15.58 And he ended up in the desert down by Ethiopia 00:25:15.61\00:25:18.97 next to a pool of water 00:25:19.00\00:25:20.75 as a unit comes pounding by with his chariot. 00:25:20.78\00:25:26.00 He gets up onto the chariot, 00:25:26.03\00:25:28.03 he talks to the man about what it means 00:25:28.06\00:25:30.26 to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Messiah, redeemer. 00:25:30.29\00:25:35.87 And the guy says, wow this has changed that way 00:25:35.90\00:25:38.25 I think about everything. 00:25:38.28\00:25:39.69 Can you baptize me, 00:25:39.72\00:25:40.75 there's a pound of water right over here? 00:25:40.78\00:25:43.17 Phillip baptizes the eunuch on the way home. 00:25:43.20\00:25:48.82 That happens on every family project. 00:25:48.85\00:25:52.19 I baptized children and adults on Christmas family project. 00:25:52.22\00:25:56.77 Today Steve baptized two teenagers 00:25:56.80\00:25:59.61 right here on this project. 00:25:59.64\00:26:02.43 Love, kids, service, baptism, they all go together. 00:26:02.46\00:26:07.95 And on a Maranatha Family Project 00:26:07.98\00:26:10.81 they all work together to strengthen God's kingdom. 00:26:10.84\00:26:17.35 This week we receive an update from Brazil 00:26:17.38\00:26:20.19 where Maranatha has build 345 one day churches. 00:26:20.22\00:26:24.17 Meet Claudio Medonsa. 00:26:24.20\00:26:26.41 He lived in the North Eastern city of Recife 00:26:26.44\00:26:28.76 and was an active member 00:26:28.79\00:26:29.82 of a Seventh-day Adventist congregation there. 00:26:29.85\00:26:32.41 About a year ago Claudio felt that 00:26:32.44\00:26:34.18 it was time to start a new church 00:26:34.21\00:26:35.51 in a near by town on Orinda. 00:26:35.54\00:26:37.39 Soon he had a group of six worshiping each Sabbath 00:26:37.42\00:26:40.60 but they didn't have a permanent place to worship. 00:26:40.63\00:26:43.62 In September 2012 Maranatha arrived to build 00:26:43.65\00:26:46.92 a one day church structure with the expectation 00:26:46.95\00:26:49.59 that this small congregation complete to build. 00:26:49.62\00:26:52.98 Today that group of six has turned into a group of 45. 00:26:53.01\00:26:57.04 They are excited, they are sharing their faith 00:26:57.07\00:27:00.02 and the church is growing. 00:27:00.05\00:27:02.35 This past weekend four additional 00:27:02.38\00:27:04.44 people were baptized in a new Orinda church. 00:27:04.47\00:27:07.93 The congregation has worked very hard 00:27:07.96\00:27:09.71 to finish the church building. 00:27:09.74\00:27:11.52 They still have a little ways to go 00:27:11.55\00:27:13.10 but they know that in a short time 00:27:13.13\00:27:14.90 a beautiful new church will stand 00:27:14.93\00:27:16.63 in their Orinda community 00:27:16.66\00:27:17.85 as a testimony to the God they worship. 00:27:17.88\00:27:20.76 When you support the one day church project 00:27:20.79\00:27:22.81 great results take place. 00:27:22.84\00:27:24.58 A new building is built but more importantly 00:27:24.61\00:27:27.22 you are supporting a group of people with simple goals, 00:27:27.25\00:27:30.26 to spread the love of Jesus to everyone they meet. 00:27:30.29\00:27:33.89 If you like to make the one day church possible 00:27:33.92\00:27:36.23 for a congregation like Claudia's 00:27:36.26\00:27:38.04 we need your help. 00:27:38.07\00:27:39.68 There are many congregations on our list 00:27:39.71\00:27:41.75 that are waiting for a church. 00:27:41.78\00:27:43.48 Contact us today to find out how you can get involved. 00:27:43.51\00:27:47.86 Thanks for joining us today on Maranatha
