it will find you; good news, you must make it. 00:00:07.10\00:00:11.40 Maranatha Volunteers International is about making 00:00:11.40\00:00:17.16 good news. 00:00:17.16\00:00:18.16 Inspired by Jesus' persistent love, 00:00:18.16\00:00:21.43 we have chosen to be good news to people in need. 00:00:21.43\00:00:27.20 All of us, making good news real, 00:00:27.20\00:00:34.43 tangible, good news with faces. 00:00:34.43\00:00:36.56 How do we make good news, especially in a world of 00:00:36.56\00:00:40.73 unending strife, pain and tragedy? 00:00:40.73\00:00:43.33 It begins with a vision that sees far beyond the chains of 00:00:43.33\00:00:49.66 human dilemma, a God vision that says we can make a difference. 00:00:49.66\00:00:55.96 What God has done for each of us, 00:00:55.96\00:00:58.36 we can do for others. 00:00:58.36\00:01:06.03 Our hands, God's hands; our feet, 00:01:06.03\00:01:11.20 God's feet; our hearts beating the rhythm of God's heart. 00:01:11.20\00:01:16.56 Who would have thought a construction company would be 00:01:16.56\00:01:21.36 key to unlocking so many treasures: the treasure of 00:01:21.36\00:01:26.20 discovering God's plan for my life, 00:01:26.20\00:01:29.40 the treasure of eternal friendship, 00:01:29.40\00:01:32.06 the treasure of everlasting life, 00:01:32.06\00:01:34.73 the treasure of peace, and the treasure of belonging, 00:01:34.73\00:01:39.56 community, a place to express faith in the God of eternal love 00:01:39.56\00:01:45.96 and grace. 00:01:45.96\00:01:47.03 We are Maranatha Volunteers International. 00:01:47.03\00:01:50.10 Let's all of us: we who organize, 00:01:50.10\00:01:53.86 we who sacrifice, we who put our time and energy into building up 00:01:53.86\00:01:59.86 the kingdom, we who believe that good news is something we make, 00:02:06.36\00:02:12.36 we are bound together in a common cause with shared goals. 00:02:17.86\00:02:23.86 We are bound together by God's inexplicable gift of grace. 00:02:28.43\00:02:34.43 And thanks to Jesus, we are bound for the kingdom together. 00:02:38.03\00:02:44.03 Good news, we have to share it, 00:02:48.60\00:02:52.20 don't we? 00:02:52.20\00:02:53.46 In the next few moments we would like to take you on a journey 00:02:53.46\00:02:56.36 through stories, Maranatha stories, 00:02:56.36\00:02:59.56 that we think will help you see the opportunities, 00:02:59.56\00:03:02.63 the incredible possibilities that face us. 00:03:02.63\00:03:07.40 Us: God's hands, God's feet, God's heart. 00:03:07.40\00:03:13.63 Our journey will begin with a challenge. 00:03:13.63\00:03:17.20 And then we'll see how Maranatha's responding to that 00:03:17.20\00:03:19.66 challenge. 00:03:19.66\00:03:20.93 And you'll quickly sense that there isn't just one response. 00:03:20.93\00:03:24.93 Leadership and faith are core to the solution. 00:03:24.93\00:03:27.70 Those who commit their energies full time to the mission and 00:03:27.70\00:03:30.86 then volunteer leadership, who journey all over the world, 00:03:30.86\00:03:35.20 organizing and motivating our teams of volunteers. 00:03:35.20\00:03:38.73 And you'll see that none of this can be done without church 00:03:38.73\00:03:42.40 leaders having the vision to cast the Maranatha net where 00:03:42.40\00:03:47.16 their mission is. 00:03:47.16\00:03:49.06 There are those other lines that represent those who give: gifts 00:03:49.06\00:03:55.26 of time, gifts of money, gifts of service. 00:03:55.26\00:04:01.56 We are Maranatha, all of us. 00:04:01.56\00:04:06.43 Do you see the challenge? 00:04:06.43\00:04:07.63 At Maranatha, we prefer the word opportunity. 00:04:07.63\00:04:12.90 Are you aware of the Seventh-Day Adventist's Church's great need 00:04:12.90\00:04:16.26 for church buildings and schools? 00:04:16.26\00:04:18.23 There are thousands of church members all around the world 00:04:18.23\00:04:21.43 without an adequate place to worship and millions of children 00:04:21.43\00:04:24.70 who would go to Adventist schools if they had the 00:04:24.70\00:04:28.90 opportunity. 00:04:28.90\00:04:30.06 At Maranatha, we believe that constructing churches for 00:04:30.06\00:04:33.50 existing congregations actually spreads the gospel. 00:04:33.50\00:04:36.86 It grows the kingdom. 00:04:36.86\00:04:38.80 Look anywhere in the 78 countries where Maranatha has 00:04:38.80\00:04:43.16 built churches and schools. 00:04:43.16\00:04:44.30 A new church or a school is a catalyst, 00:04:44.30\00:04:48.33 a spark plug that attracts neighbors and friends and 00:04:48.33\00:04:52.43 encourages members to reach out to the community. 00:04:52.43\00:04:56.10 Building a new church, or building a new school? 00:04:56.10\00:05:00.20 That's evangelism. 00:05:00.20\00:05:01.23 Church leaders know this. 00:05:01.23\00:05:03.10 So the request for churches and schools accumulate rapidly in 00:05:03.10\00:05:06.36 the Maranatha office. 00:05:06.36\00:05:07.60 At this point, we have definable requests for more than 100, 00:05:07.60\00:05:12.73 00 Seventh-Day Adventist Church buildings and requests for more 00:05:12.73\00:05:16.90 than 60,000 new classrooms. 00:05:16.90\00:05:19.06 That's 160,000 requests. 00:05:19.06\00:05:20.66 Imagine building 100,000 churches will serve 15 million 00:05:20.66\00:05:24.96 people. 00:05:24.96\00:05:26.20 How many of those are people who are joining God's kingdom for 00:05:26.20\00:05:31.96 the very first time? 00:05:31.96\00:05:34.13 A hundred thousand times one hundred and fifty people, 00:05:34.13\00:05:38.96 fifteen million seats in churches. 00:05:38.96\00:05:41.66 Sixty thousand classrooms? 00:05:41.66\00:05:43.56 That means every day educating more than 2 million students. 00:05:43.56\00:05:48.03 What an opportunity. 00:05:48.03\00:05:50.00 What an opportunity to reach kids and their families with the 00:05:50.00\00:05:53.80 message of the gospel. 00:05:53.80\00:05:56.00 And these requests, they're from Africa, 00:05:56.00\00:05:58.86 India, South, Central, North America. 00:05:58.86\00:06:01.86 And in 2011, we can rejoice that already more than 1,000 00:06:01.86\00:06:07.10 churches, dozens of schools have been built by Maranatha 00:06:07.10\00:06:11.13 Volunteers International all over the world. 00:06:11.13\00:06:15.00 But at that rate, how long will it take to build 160, 00:06:15.00\00:06:20.56 00 buildings? 00:06:20.56\00:06:22.30 About 160 years. 00:06:22.30\00:06:24.93 That means we're done somewhere around the year 2171. 00:06:24.93\00:06:31.23 Our challenge and opportunity is that we take that request for 00:06:31.23\00:06:36.43 160,000 buildings seriously. 00:06:36.43\00:06:39.86 We pray. 00:06:39.86\00:06:40.86 We assess. 00:06:40.86\00:06:41.86 We find leadership. 00:06:41.86\00:06:43.56 And we step forward in faith that God will lead us through 00:06:43.56\00:06:48.50 the doors he has been opening. 00:06:48.50\00:06:50.93 It excites us. 00:06:50.93\00:06:52.13 It humbles us. 00:06:52.13\00:06:53.33 And it sends us to our knees. 00:06:53.33\00:06:56.16 I want to thank you today for joining us in this journey of 00:06:56.16\00:07:00.26 faith. 00:07:00.26\00:07:01.46 Being a Maranatha volunteer, it's one of the best things 00:07:01.46\00:07:05.23 you'll ever do. 00:07:05.23\00:07:07.53 Here's our response to the world's needs. 00:07:07.53\00:07:11.43 One hundred thousand churches and fifty thousand schools. 00:07:11.43\00:07:16.86 It's easy to get lost in the immensity of the need. 00:07:16.86\00:07:20.63 But each request Maranatha receives represents a prayer in 00:07:20.63\00:07:24.10 the hearts of a congregation and the dreams of a child. 00:07:24.10\00:07:29.36 The Adventist church is growing rapidly all over the world. 00:07:29.36\00:07:32.46 As people eagerly make decisions for Jesus, 00:07:32.46\00:07:35.30 they find themselves celebrating their new life in Christ under a 00:07:35.30\00:07:39.06 tree, or maybe shaded by a tarp. 00:07:39.06\00:07:43.73 The fire of their faith is often dampened by monsoon rain. 00:07:43.73\00:07:47.50 But Maranatha steps out in faith to respond to this growth by 00:07:47.50\00:07:53.30 providing urgently needed buildings. 00:07:53.30\00:07:55.26 From One-Day Churches for small, rural congregations to large 00:07:55.26\00:08:00.16 boarding school campuses, Maranatha responds with a 00:08:00.16\00:08:04.63 building best suited for each need. 00:08:04.63\00:08:08.23 The One-Day Church is the perfect solution to address the 00:08:08.23\00:08:11.33 huge request for churches in developing areas around the 00:08:11.33\00:08:14.20 world. 00:08:14.20\00:08:15.70 The simple steel building provides the solid roof and 00:08:15.70\00:08:19.03 structure, something most rural congregations could never 00:08:19.03\00:08:22.30 afford. 00:08:22.30\00:08:23.30 After Maranatha builds the frame, 00:08:23.30\00:08:25.06 the local church members work to finish the walls in ways that 00:08:25.06\00:08:30.63 best represent their community. 00:08:30.63\00:08:32.46 In India, Maranatha takes on the additional task of finishing the 00:08:32.46\00:08:37.56 church walls. 00:08:37.56\00:08:38.80 More than 2,000 One-Day Churches have been constructed all over 00:08:38.80\00:08:43.13 the world and stand as centers of hope in their community. 00:08:43.13\00:08:48.20 Adventist education is also making a big impact. 00:08:48.20\00:08:51.93 Christian educators work hard to impart knowledge and instill 00:08:51.93\00:08:56.10 values. 00:08:56.10\00:08:57.20 But a lack of infrastructure hinders their efforts. 00:08:57.20\00:09:00.26 The One-Day School responds to that growing need. 00:09:00.26\00:09:03.96 The building, complete with a concrete foundation, 00:09:03.96\00:09:07.20 walls and desks creates a perfect learning environment for 00:09:07.20\00:09:11.36 40 students. 00:09:11.36\00:09:12.63 Multiple classrooms can also be configured to create a complete 00:09:12.63\00:09:16.93 One-Day School campus that can accommodate much larger numbers 00:09:16.93\00:09:21.10 of students. 00:09:21.10\00:09:22.66 Maranatha's response to the need for education also includes 00:09:22.66\00:09:25.90 larger buildings. 00:09:25.90\00:09:26.90 We call them Education and Evangelism Centers. 00:09:26.90\00:09:30.00 This building fills the need for both classrooms and a place of 00:09:30.00\00:09:35.43 worship. 00:09:35.43\00:09:36.66 During the week classrooms are filled with children and the 00:09:36.66\00:09:40.43 auditorium is used for school assemblies. 00:09:40.43\00:09:43.16 On Sabbath, the simple auditorium becomes a sanctuary. 00:09:43.16\00:09:48.56 In India, Maranatha has built several large boarding schools 00:09:48.56\00:09:52.00 that are home to up to 1200 students each. 00:09:52.00\00:09:55.40 The campuses provide a constant, loving Christian environment to 00:09:55.40\00:09:59.36 help children rise to their full potential. 00:09:59.36\00:10:03.56 Maranatha has also been very busy in Cuba. 00:10:03.56\00:10:06.10 Our work there has included refurbishing and building 00:10:06.10\00:10:08.90 churches, as well as constructing an entire seminary 00:10:08.90\00:10:12.43 campus. 00:10:12.43\00:10:13.66 But until recently, seminary students had no place to meet 00:10:13.66\00:10:16.73 doe church or for other large events. 00:10:16.73\00:10:19.46 Maranatha constructed a beautiful campus assembly and 00:10:19.46\00:10:24.13 meeting center that seats 336 people. 00:10:24.13\00:10:29.63 The immense needs the Seventh-Day Adventist Church 00:10:29.63\00:10:32.63 presents to Maranatha are really tremendous opportunities. 00:10:32.63\00:10:37.96 Opportunities to eternally impact the lives of hundreds of 00:10:37.96\00:10:42.80 thousands of people all around the world. 00:10:42.80\00:10:47.20 Maranatha, we are bound for the kingdom. 00:10:47.20\00:10:51.50 To participate financially in Maranatha's mission, 00:10:51.50\00:10:54.46 please visit Maranatha.org and click on the "donate" tab. 00:10:54.46\00:10:58.40 Your gifts will improve organization, 00:10:58.40\00:11:01.86 worship and life for God's family all around the world. 00:11:01.86\00:11:06.73 We also welcome your participation as a volunteer. 00:11:06.73\00:11:09.96 When we say Maranatha builds buildings. 00:11:09.96\00:11:12.93 That means you building buildings and changing people's 00:11:12.93\00:11:17.50 lives. 00:11:17.50\00:11:18.50 Take a look. 00:11:18.50\00:11:19.66 I was amazed two days ago when we were in such a downpour 00:11:19.66\00:11:24.90 that we couldn't see if we had glasses on. 00:11:24.90\00:11:27.10 And yet, I saw smiles on faces and I saw people keep pouring 00:11:27.10\00:11:30.73 mortar. 00:11:30.73\00:11:31.96 I saw them keep putting up brick and goose bumps standing up on 00:11:31.96\00:11:35.36 their arms 'cause they were so cold. 00:11:35.36\00:11:36.90 And nobody complaining about it. 00:11:36.90\00:11:38.93 And that is because of the Holy Spirit. 00:11:38.93\00:11:40.50 That's not because of us. 00:11:40.50\00:11:41.60 It's because we become changed. 00:11:41.60\00:11:43.83 We come with a mission. 00:11:43.83\00:11:45.50 And then we go home with a blessing, 00:11:45.50\00:11:47.96 not even realizing, you know, yes we came to give these people 00:11:47.96\00:11:51.03 a blessing, but we are the ones that are blessed. 00:11:51.03\00:11:53.16 Each and every time, we are the ones that are blessed. 00:11:53.16\00:11:58.06 There is no question that volunteering on a Maranatha 00:11:58.06\00:12:01.20 project scores high in the changed-lives category. 00:12:01.20\00:12:05.16 And because you have to leave behind most of what you're used 00:12:05.16\00:12:08.26 to in life, you'll learn things about yourself you never knew, 00:12:08.26\00:12:12.96 like just how cool you really are. 00:12:12.96\00:12:16.60 Opportunities just around the corner include building a school 00:12:16.60\00:12:21.23 in India on an open-team project. 00:12:21.23\00:12:24.36 That means anyone can go as long as there's room left. 00:12:24.36\00:12:30.06 Each year Maranatha plans a family project during the 00:12:30.06\00:12:34.73 Christmas holiday. 00:12:34.73\00:12:35.86 This year families will be building in Latin America. 00:12:35.86\00:12:40.73 There are more open team and family projects planned in 00:12:40.73\00:12:44.26 Africa, India and Latin America next Spring and Summer. 00:12:44.26\00:12:50.26 If you're a teenager you have to sign up at least once for an 00:12:54.13\00:12:57.26 Ultimate Workout. 00:12:57.26\00:12:58.80 Try it. 00:12:58.80\00:12:59.80 You'll be addicted. 00:12:59.80\00:13:00.96 In fact, the Ultimate Workout alumni were so addicted, 00:13:00.96\00:13:04.63 the collegiate project has been created for those between 18 and 00:13:04.63\00:13:10.46 24. 00:13:10.46\00:13:11.66 And remember, with Maranatha you don't have to lie about your 00:13:11.66\00:13:16.80 age. 00:13:16.80\00:13:17.80 There are no age restrictions. 00:13:17.80\00:13:20.16 The only thing we'd really like you to think about as you 00:13:20.16\00:13:22.60 consider your next project is who are you going to bring with 00:13:22.60\00:13:25.90 you? 00:13:25.90\00:13:27.90 Maranatha is too good to keep to yourself. 00:13:35.66\00:13:38.56 If you haven't already, it's time to bring a friend. 00:13:38.56\00:13:41.60 Every project just about that we go on, 00:13:41.60\00:13:44.50 we say, "Wow, that was right up there at the top." 00:13:44.50\00:13:47.46 And then the next one is right up there at the top. 00:13:47.46\00:13:49.23 And it's impossible for them to all be at the top, 00:13:49.23\00:13:53.00 but the reality of it is the people that come on these 00:13:53.00\00:13:57.13 projects are people that are trying to make a difference. 00:13:57.13\00:14:00.56 They're very unselfish people. 00:14:00.56\00:14:01.93 They're fun to get to know. 00:14:01.93\00:14:04.00 They're fun to be around. 00:14:04.00\00:14:05.70 And you make a lot of lifetime friends in coming on projects 00:14:05.70\00:14:09.83 like this. 00:14:09.83\00:14:10.83 We are Maranatha. 00:14:10.83\00:14:11.83 We are bound for the kingdom. 00:14:11.83\00:14:14.80 Hey, bring a friend. 00:14:14.80\00:14:16.80 At our convention in Portland, 00:14:29.70\00:14:30.96 Oregon this year, I spoke with a young man who has become a good 00:14:30.96\00:14:34.23 friend, a man who is always volunteering, 00:14:34.23\00:14:38.40 everywhere on the planet. 00:14:38.40\00:14:40.56 You gotta meet him, Kyle Anderson. 00:14:40.56\00:14:43.50 Every time I come home from a trip, 00:14:43.50\00:14:45.06 or getting ready to go on a trip, 00:14:45.06\00:14:46.23 it looks like you're doing exactly the same thing. 00:14:46.23\00:14:48.16 You're on your way from, to, going. 00:14:48.16\00:14:50.16 How many trips is it now? 00:14:50.16\00:14:51.46 Six. 00:14:51.46\00:14:52.46 Six! 00:14:52.46\00:14:53.46 With the seventh one on the way. 00:14:53.46\00:14:54.60 Where have you been that you enjoyed the most? 00:14:54.60\00:14:57.13 I don't really know. 00:14:57.13\00:14:58.30 I love India for the food. 00:14:58.30\00:14:59.73 I love Honduras for the entire scenery and everything. 00:14:59.73\00:15:05.30 But I thought Norway was also really awesome scenery. 00:15:05.30\00:15:09.43 And I don't know which one is my favorite. 00:15:09.43\00:15:13.10 When you were in India, you didn't come home alone. 00:15:13.10\00:15:16.63 You came home with an adopted child. 00:15:16.63\00:15:19.10 Yes I did. 00:15:19.10\00:15:20.10 Tell me about that. 00:15:20.10\00:15:21.30 Well, when we were--when we got to India and everything, 00:15:21.30\00:15:25.00 the people at the school did this big welcome thing. 00:15:25.00\00:15:30.16 Hmm Mmm. 00:15:30.16\00:15:31.16 And it was really cool. 00:15:31.16\00:15:32.46 And there was this kid that was doing this funny dance and 00:15:32.46\00:15:36.40 stuff. 00:15:36.40\00:15:37.40 I'm like, "Oh, that's so cool. 00:15:37.40\00:15:38.70 I want to adopt him for going to the school." 00:15:38.70\00:15:42.00 So next thing I know is I asked the school person and he was up 00:15:42.00\00:15:46.60 for sponsorship and I sponsored him. 00:15:46.60\00:15:50.10 So you have a sponsored son. 00:15:50.10\00:15:52.30 Where in India? 00:15:52.30\00:15:53.30 In Ongole, at the Fjarli Adventist Academy. 00:15:53.30\00:15:56.63 Now you spent enough time there, 00:15:56.63\00:15:58.06 you were building, but you were doing a whole lot more 00:15:58.06\00:16:00.60 evangelism in the villages than you were building. 00:16:00.60\00:16:02.66 Yes we were. 00:16:02.66\00:16:03.70 When you do evangelism in a village, 00:16:03.70\00:16:05.86 what happens when you go to a door and knock? 00:16:05.86\00:16:09.53 Well they come out and they are like, 00:16:09.53\00:16:11.53 "Oh, vandanalu. 00:16:11.53\00:16:12.53 It's nice to meet you." 00:16:12.53\00:16:13.53 And they're just really open to you. 00:16:13.53\00:16:17.50 They want you to be there. 00:16:17.50\00:16:18.80 They want you to put their hand--or your hands on them and 00:16:18.80\00:16:22.33 pray for 'em and just they think that the farther you come, 00:16:22.33\00:16:26.50 the more blessing that they get. 00:16:26.50\00:16:28.43 If you could give all of your teenage friends encouragement to 00:16:28.43\00:16:32.86 go on a mission trip, what would you say? 00:16:32.86\00:16:35.30 Just come, don't worry about the money. 00:16:35.30\00:16:36.70 Come on. 00:16:36.70\00:16:38.26 Just come. 00:16:38.26\00:16:39.26 Every teenager I know worries about the money. 00:16:39.26\00:16:40.70 Yeah, just say that's a bad excuse. 00:16:40.70\00:16:42.50 Come on. 00:16:42.50\00:16:43.50 Just come anyway. 00:16:43.50\00:16:44.50 Yeah. 00:16:44.50\00:16:45.50 Why? 00:16:45.50\00:16:46.53 Because the money always shows up no matter when. 00:16:46.53\00:16:47.50 But what will it do for me? 00:16:47.50\00:16:50.06 It gets you closer to God. 00:16:50.06\00:16:51.50 It brings you out of your comfort zone to expand on like 00:16:51.50\00:16:57.03 talking in front of people and just doing anything. 00:16:57.03\00:17:00.30 At least that's what I've gotten out of it. 00:17:00.30\00:17:03.33 That's where you found Kyle. 00:17:03.33\00:17:04.93 Yes. 00:17:04.93\00:17:05.93 On a mission trip in India. 00:17:05.93\00:17:07.30 Yes. 00:17:07.30\00:17:08.30 Where you gonna be next? 00:17:08.30\00:17:09.30 I am going to Nicaragua on Christmas time. 00:17:09.30\00:17:11.50 For Christmas Family Project. 00:17:11.50\00:17:13.60 Yes I am. 00:17:13.60\00:17:14.60 You and how many family? 00:17:14.60\00:17:16.10 I think three. 00:17:16.10\00:17:17.73 I'm hoping three. 00:17:17.73\00:17:19.36 Two for sure, but the third one is going to come. 00:17:19.36\00:17:21.63 They don't know yet. 00:17:21.63\00:17:22.80 It's all about bringing a friend. 00:17:22.80\00:17:24.33 Yes. 00:17:24.33\00:17:25.33 They don't know they're coming. 00:17:25.33\00:17:26.33 No, they don't know. 00:17:26.33\00:17:27.33 But they're coming. 00:17:27.33\00:17:28.33 They're coming. 00:17:28.33\00:17:29.33 Kyle, thank you. 00:17:29.33\00:17:30.33 Thank you. 00:17:30.33\00:17:31.33 Thanks so much. 00:17:31.33\00:17:32.33 Bring a friend. 00:17:32.33\00:17:33.36 You're gonna hear me say that a lot this year. 00:17:33.36\00:17:35.16 When you join in Maranatha's mission, 00:17:35.16\00:17:37.53 bring a friend. 00:17:37.53\00:17:38.80 Whether it's in Nicaragua, India, 00:17:38.80\00:17:40.96 or one of the many project sites we have on the continent of 00:17:40.96\00:17:43.63 Africa, bring a friend. 00:17:43.63\00:17:45.86 But come. 00:17:45.86\00:17:47.10 Don't come alone. 00:17:47.10\00:17:48.40 Bring a friend. 00:17:48.40\00:17:50.00 Even if it's at a project like Fort Meyers, 00:17:50.00\00:17:52.13 Florida. 00:17:52.13\00:17:53.13 We do those too. 00:17:53.13\00:17:54.13 Bring a friend. 00:17:54.13\00:17:55.60 And especially at the convention next year in Sacramento, 00:17:55.60\00:17:58.73 California September 21 and 22, come. 00:17:58.73\00:18:03.83 Bring a friend. 00:18:03.83\00:18:06.06 You see, we want you to come. 00:18:06.06\00:18:08.66 We also want you to bring a friend. 00:18:08.66\00:18:11.20 I'll be right back. 00:19:16.93\00:19:20.10 But we also design projects to meet the needs of the many 00:19:20.10\00:19:24.26 volunteer groups who come to do the work. 00:19:24.26\00:19:28.06 Some of the groups are open for anyone from anywhere to get 00:19:28.06\00:19:31.83 involved. 00:19:31.83\00:19:33.03 Others are based on local congregations who have a real 00:19:33.03\00:19:36.56 desire and mission to serve. 00:19:36.56\00:19:39.36 Some groups are for families. 00:19:39.36\00:19:41.26 In fact I want to show you a video clip that was taken of 00:19:41.26\00:19:45.93 some crazy guys who were on our summer family project last 00:19:45.93\00:19:49.86 summer. 00:19:49.86\00:19:51.10 Then I want to introduce you to them from an interview that we 00:19:51.10\00:19:53.73 shared together at our convention in Portland, 00:19:53.73\00:19:56.46 Oregon. 00:19:56.46\00:19:57.46 [Music] 00:19:57.46\00:19:58.46 [Cheering] 00:19:58.46\00:19:59.46 [Speaking Spanish] 00:19:59.46\00:20:01.43 For an extra donation of $1500, 00:20:01.43\00:20:08.20 you too can have a copy of the trowel dance. 00:20:08.20\00:20:14.20 [Laughing] 00:20:22.20\00:20:23.66 Ernie, you were the actual videographer for this, 00:20:23.66\00:20:29.66 right? 00:20:35.53\00:20:37.03 That's right. 00:20:37.03\00:20:40.00 That's right, yeah. 00:20:40.00\00:20:44.76 Oh my. 00:20:44.76\00:20:46.03 Ernie Medina and Alan Michel, you guys were involved in the 00:20:46.03\00:20:51.20 Summer Family Project in Choluteca. 00:20:51.20\00:20:53.80 Ernie, why did you guys choose to do a family project? 00:20:53.80\00:20:57.36 We were talking about why we want to bring our kids to these 00:20:57.36\00:21:00.10 things because, you know, they--we believe that our kids 00:21:00.10\00:21:01.10 can be missionaries now. 00:21:01.10\00:21:02.10 They don't need to wait 'til they're older, 00:21:02.10\00:21:06.76 you know, student missionary and all that, 00:21:06.76\00:21:08.63 which I support. 00:21:08.63\00:21:09.63 They can be missionaries now. 00:21:09.63\00:21:10.70 And you know, we saw miracle after miracle. 00:21:10.70\00:21:12.63 I mean one--we were doing VBS in their small church with a tin 00:21:12.63\00:21:16.30 roof and it rained every day like at 4:00 o'clock or so. 00:21:16.30\00:21:19.80 And so we couldn't hear anything, 00:21:19.80\00:21:20.90 but we had a PA system. 00:21:20.90\00:21:21.90 Well the one day the electricity went out, 00:21:21.90\00:21:24.76 we prayed. 00:21:24.76\00:21:25.76 We said to the kids, "Okay, you know, 00:21:25.76\00:21:26.76 we gotta pray, 'cause they can't hear us. 00:21:26.76\00:21:27.90 There's 200 kids in here." 00:21:27.90\00:21:29.30 And so we prayed, and the rain stopped. 00:21:29.30\00:21:30.90 I mean you know we just had different things like that all 00:21:30.90\00:21:33.26 the time that just reinforced that this whole trip was a 00:21:33.26\00:21:35.36 miracle. 00:21:35.36\00:21:37.16 You took family and spent most of your family actually 00:21:37.16\00:21:41.76 building with blocks, right? 00:21:41.76\00:21:43.46 You know as a family, we really get to experience great 00:21:43.46\00:21:48.03 things with not only my family, but also family--I mean eight 00:21:48.03\00:21:53.10 people from our church went together, 00:21:53.10\00:21:55.56 brought our kids. 00:21:55.56\00:21:56.90 The kids had a great time. 00:21:56.90\00:21:58.46 We went side-by-side, building, you know, 00:21:58.46\00:22:01.16 laying block and painting. 00:22:01.16\00:22:02.83 And yeah, I think they could have worked harder, 00:22:02.83\00:22:05.10 but at the same time it gives me great satisfaction to see them 00:22:05.10\00:22:08.53 getting involved. 00:22:08.53\00:22:09.53 And we really worked close. 00:22:09.53\00:22:12.10 I mean we ate all our meals together. 00:22:12.10\00:22:14.60 I really have to congratulate what Maranatha does. 00:22:14.60\00:22:16.80 I mean they get everything organized for you. 00:22:16.80\00:22:19.90 So they got your hotel rooms. 00:22:19.90\00:22:21.86 They take care of your food. 00:22:21.86\00:22:23.13 I mean they fight people in to help cook and manage the thing 00:22:23.13\00:22:26.46 so hopefully you don't get sick. 00:22:26.46\00:22:27.80 So it's really been a blessing. 00:22:27.80\00:22:29.73 It's more than us helping people. 00:22:29.73\00:22:33.33 It's really Maranatha and the whole experience helping us be a 00:22:33.33\00:22:37.50 better family and be closer to God. 00:22:37.50\00:22:40.03 If you've been on one of our Maranatha projects and shot some 00:22:40.03\00:22:42.63 video like the trowel dance, send it to us. 00:22:42.63\00:22:46.26 We would love to see it. 00:22:46.26\00:22:48.10 In fact, we might even play it on "Maranatha Mission Stories, 00:22:48.10\00:22:51.43 or post it on our YouTube channel. 00:22:51.43\00:22:54.16 You can find that anytime by simply going to YouTube and 00:22:54.16\00:22:56.73 looking for Mission Stories. 00:22:56.73\00:23:00.76 Our volunteers? 00:23:00.76\00:23:02.26 Ah, they range from under 10 years of age to over 90 years of 00:23:02.26\00:23:06.40 age. 00:23:06.40\00:23:07.63 One of the groups that serves teenagers is called Ultimate 00:23:07.63\00:23:10.66 Workout. 00:23:10.66\00:23:11.96 Join me again in Portland, Oregon. 00:23:11.96\00:23:14.10 I want you to meet a very special young lady. 00:23:14.10\00:23:17.83 Morgan Housel, you went on the Ultimate Workout trip in 00:23:17.83\00:23:22.50 2011, right? 00:23:22.50\00:23:23.66 Yes. 00:23:23.66\00:23:24.90 Now on most Maranatha trips, there are four kinds of things 00:23:24.90\00:23:28.63 that happen, or many at least. 00:23:28.63\00:23:30.36 We do building, blocks, cinder blocks, 00:23:30.36\00:23:33.53 bricks, stuff, steel. 00:23:33.53\00:23:36.06 We do Vacation Bible School. 00:23:36.06\00:23:37.96 Usually there's some kind of outreach. 00:23:37.96\00:23:39.76 And very often even a clinic. 00:23:39.76\00:23:41.93 Yes. 00:23:41.93\00:23:42.93 Next time you go on a mission trip, 00:23:42.93\00:23:44.66 which one do you want to do? 00:23:44.66\00:23:46.10 I would probably choose outreach because it's so 00:23:46.10\00:23:50.63 incredible the way that you can touch the families that you go 00:23:50.63\00:23:54.16 and visit. 00:23:54.16\00:23:55.40 Even if it's in a small way, you always touch a family in need. 00:23:55.40\00:23:59.33 You also spent some time building. 00:23:59.33\00:24:01.10 Yes. 00:24:01.10\00:24:02.10 Tell me about that. 00:24:02.10\00:24:03.10 We built our Two-Week Church. 00:24:03.10\00:24:05.96 And then on our little outreach we built a fence around the 00:24:05.96\00:24:10.46 school that we were staying in. 00:24:10.46\00:24:12.10 It tests your faith when you don't have all your supplies or 00:24:12.10\00:24:15.56 it's raining, which the climate is very difficult down there, 00:24:15.56\00:24:19.50 'cause it's always humid and it rains. 00:24:19.50\00:24:21.40 And so it makes it hard the next day for you to lay cement if 00:24:21.40\00:24:26.00 you're cement or your brick is too wet. 00:24:26.00\00:24:28.90 What stands out as something that you just want to grasp onto 00:24:28.90\00:24:33.30 and never lose? 00:24:33.30\00:24:35.10 Even though we chose to keep going, 00:24:35.10\00:24:39.86 we did have our faith tested. 00:24:39.86\00:24:42.23 And there were times when I got really homesick and I just 00:24:42.23\00:24:45.30 wanted to go home and not be there anymore, 00:24:45.30\00:24:49.30 but I kept with it and so did everybody else. 00:24:49.30\00:24:51.86 And everybody was really welcoming. 00:24:51.86\00:24:54.13 No matter if you don't have any friends when you first go there, 00:24:54.13\00:24:58.16 you always leave with a whole new family, 00:24:58.16\00:25:01.70 probably even more than one. 00:25:01.70\00:25:04.16 No. 00:25:04.16\00:25:05.80 It's a simple, two-letter, one-syllable word spoken 00:25:05.80\00:25:09.10 hundreds of times a day. 00:25:09.10\00:25:10.80 It can be casual. 00:25:10.80\00:25:12.46 It can be empowering. 00:25:12.46\00:25:13.90 It can be protective. 00:25:13.90\00:25:15.53 It can also have the power to destroy. 00:25:15.53\00:25:19.76 "No." 00:25:19.76\00:25:21.26 Destroy a hope. 00:25:21.26\00:25:22.93 "No." 00:25:22.93\00:25:23.93 Destroy a prayer, a dream. 00:25:23.93\00:25:27.86 One last story for you. 00:25:27.86\00:25:28.86 A few months ago, Susan Bushnell, 00:25:28.86\00:25:31.30 our Chief Financial Officer, stood before the Maranatha Board 00:25:31.30\00:25:34.60 of Trustees. 00:25:34.60\00:25:35.80 She told them that our Cuba Seminary Church Project was not 00:25:35.80\00:25:39.63 yet fully funded. 00:25:39.63\00:25:40.86 In fact, there was still quite a bit of money to raise. 00:25:40.86\00:25:45.76 And yet in just a matter of weeks, 00:25:45.76\00:25:49.06 the church was going to be dedicated. 00:25:49.06\00:25:52.10 She stood before them wondering if maybe we had made too big a 00:25:52.10\00:25:56.46 leap in building that church. 00:25:56.46\00:25:59.93 Well within two days of the board meeting, 00:25:59.93\00:26:02.30 Maranatha received two major gifts. 00:26:02.30\00:26:05.10 And suddenly the entire Cuba Seminary Church Project was 00:26:05.10\00:26:09.56 totally funded. 00:26:09.56\00:26:11.76 Three years ago, God said, "Yes, Maranatha, 00:26:11.76\00:26:16.23 build that church in Cuba." 00:26:16.23\00:26:19.13 But only weeks before the dedication God provided two 00:26:19.13\00:26:24.36 people who said "Yes" to giving the last dollars necessary for 00:26:24.36\00:26:30.73 the project. 00:26:30.73\00:26:31.96 As a result, they said "Yes" to answering thousands of prayers 00:26:31.96\00:26:38.26 in Cuba. 00:26:38.26\00:26:39.43 Imagine, just imagine. 00:26:39.43\00:26:41.43 What if we would have said "No" from the start? 00:26:41.43\00:26:45.80 Today, tomorrow, and until the Lord's return, 00:26:45.80\00:26:48.46 we want you to say "Yes." 00:26:48.46\00:26:50.73 Say "Yes" to praying for the mission. 00:26:50.73\00:26:53.03 Say "Yes" to answering God's call. 00:26:53.03\00:26:56.43 Say "Yes" to giving what you can. 00:26:56.43\00:27:02.43 Give your hands, your feet, your heart. 00:27:09.60\00:27:10.66 For when you do, you say yes to brazen, 00:27:10.66\00:27:13.43 courageous, audacious faith. 00:27:13.43\00:27:17.40 You change the world. 00:27:17.40\00:27:19.13 I want to challenge you to come visit our website: 00:27:19.13\00:27:22.76
