with Jesus that we can.

this up to all generations from

little more seasoned.

The concept of a mission
trip just helps to expand the

for being able to
just listen to people.

And I think the danger in not
listening is that we could end

up trying to meet a
need that may not be

the greatest
need for those people.

And so, by us coming down here
to Olanchito, doing a pre-trip

in January, we committed to
just listening, to being open

to what God really was wanting
to do here in this community.

Their original plan had
been to remodel an existing

Adventist elementary school,
but they discovered the school

was already at
capacity, leaving no room

for future growth.

The pastoral staff felt
that God was telling them

to think bigger.

And decided to step out
in faith and take on the much

building a brand-new

One Day School campus.

stood behind them 100%.

We are a very large church
and so, you have your friends

The classrooms that we

They fight with each other,

But over there it will be

This is convenient for us
as teachers, because when we

children cheat and do not study.

It used to be that when a

trip, you have that bonding.

And it's just

And then when you ask,
"Hey look we need this help--

this certain ministry,

would you be willing?"

And so it's kind of like--
in a sense it's like an attitude

adjustment, too, with
our members, you know?

So, it's a team
building, you know?

They come closer to God.

They just understand
the culture a little more.

The interesting part of
this is that we've been going to

and we've seen a lot of these

people, and they look familiar.

We might know a few of
their names, but really haven't

developed a whole lot of
close, close friendships,

maybe just a handful of people.

I feel like, not only would
I know these people by name

and shake their hand, I would
want to go up and give them

a big hug and
say, "I missed you,"

if I hadn't been at
church the week before.

This has really been
special for me and the fact

that I think that I'm
kind of standoffish in general

and this is really just put me--
you can't have your guard up.

And you can't have any walls
in this kind of a situation.

You really have to trust
people and depend on them.

that dynamic immensely.

I think we should begin the
talk early on with the planning

we hoped that God would do.

and beyond our expectations

of what we thought was possible

finally, over the last couple

a project like this to focus our

whole church in one specific
area, on one specific ministry.

But God used this Maranatha
project to build the school,

to bring every age and
generation together focused

on one single project.

And we hope that the church
will develop a bigger passion

for ministry and for Christ.

exactly what happened.

I think our church seems like
they're more passionate about

evangelism, community outreach,

mission projects in the future,

personal responsibility

that what happened
in Honduras, with this

project as far as God
using the participants,

that can be my experience
if I would just open up myself

to be used by God right
here in my own community,

whether that's my
school, my work place,

where I work out at the gym,

or whether I'm at
the grocery store.

And so, I've seen a lot more
of a recommitment to being used

by Christ where
you're at in the community.

One afternoon Jesus looked
at his disciples and said,

"I've got a job for you.

around this part of the world.

"More than that I

The whole concept of
discipleship is one of getting

and then added that put my arm

I've watched a lot of
Maranatha projects, I've watched

a lot of buildings go
up, but there's something

different about this one.

This whole process,
the Camelback people coming

with their dream and
accepting the Olanchito dream.

The Olanchito people
