00:05 How do you know if you have a good voice?
00:07 That's a great question. 00:09 What is a good voice? 00:11 The answer to that has two parts really. 00:14 First, the vocal sound needs to be pleasing. 00:17 That of course is subjective. 00:20 It depends upon the ear of the listener, 00:21 and opinions will vary widely. 00:24 I listen to some successful singers, 00:27 and I can't find anything I like sometimes. 00:29 I hear others who touch my heart who will never make it 00:33 professionally. Those judgments are all based on who I am, 00:37 my cultural background, and what I just happen to like. 00:40 The second part is more objective. 00:43 I believe there are certain elements of singing that 00:45 need to be there for any style, from Bach to Rock. 00:48 Including jazz, gospel, R and B, areas like pleasing sound 00:54 accurate pitch, and under- standable words are not 00:57 negotiable in my mind and most people can learn these 01:01 elements. But can you successfully yourself 01:04 in these areas? Probably not. 01:07 You will need neutral feedback from someone with training 01:10 and musical experience than yourself. 01:12 A voice teacher, a choir director or other 01:14 trained singers is your best bet. 01:16 So, if you think others might want to hear you sing, 01:19 seek out opinions and support from vocal instructors. 01:22 And keep in mind, God always wants to hear your voice 01:26 praising Him. 01:27 There is never a tone more beautiful than the human voice 01:29 singing of the saving grace of Christ. |
