00:05 We've talked about it before and let me reiterate,
00:08 music is a powerful tool in reducing 00:11 recovery time from surgery. 00:12 So the question is, what music should you choose? 00:16 That answer is a little more difficult than you might think. 00:20 Individual music preferences are so varied, 00:23 what may work for me, may not work for you. 00:26 But there is a body of research that gives us a starting place 00:30 to make some good suggestions. 00:31 First, I would recommend choosing music from the 00:35 Baroque era. Choose songs you like and it causes you to 00:39 breathe slower and feel relaxed and organized with your thoughts. 00:42 Look for music with a healthy resting heartbeat 00:47 and has a soft pleasing dynamic level. 00:50 Secondly, when you've found the songs you like, 00:53 put them on a CD or an iPod in the order you prefer. 00:58 Listen to them before the surgery regularly. 01:02 Consciously relax your body, think empowering thoughts. 01:05 Imagine your body healing itself as you listen and meditate 01:09 on the music. 01:10 You should also choose certain sections in the songs 01:14 to quote some special scripture, scripture that empowers you, 01:18 it will be a great form of meditation. 01:21 Then immediately prior to and during the surgery 01:25 as long as the hospital allows it, have the CD playing 01:29 in your headphones. 01:31 If they don't allow this, ask if the headphones and music be 01:35 played for you in recovery? 01:36 Your brain will use the music as ques for the healing thoughts 01:40 you had before and the scriptures you quoted at certain 01:43 points in the music, at least that's the idea promoted 01:47 by the research. 01:48 To be even more specific, let me list a few songs that 01:52 first, come to mind for me. 01:53 These songs may not all be right for you, 01:56 but they are a place from which to start your search. 01:59 Bach's Chorale from The Little Suite, that's one that's great, 02:04 there's also music from Handel, of course Mozart, Albinoni, 02:10 Frescobaldi, Telemann, Schutz, Monteverdi, 02:13 there's so many more. 02:15 I suggest, take a trip to Barnes & Nobles and listen 02:18 to a compilation of CD's of certain eras in the 02:21 Baroque music, or take a jaunt through I-Tunes, 02:24 Rhapsody, or other online services that help you find 02:27 and refine your musical tastes. 02:30 Wishing you a successful surgery and recovery. |
