00:01 Hi, I'm Dr. Kim Logan-Nowlin.
00:02 And I'm Arthur Nowlin.
00:04 Welcome to "Making It Work."
00:37 Today on "Making It Work," we're talking about
00:40 the Making of Success, Higher Education.
00:43 Arthur, when you think about all that--
00:45 we both have gone through to acquire education
00:48 has it been beneficial to our lives?
00:50 There's no doubt it's been beneficial.
00:52 What I'm thinking about is,
00:54 you know, when we go through a process that's it.
00:56 I'm thinking about a process that
00:58 you have to go through throughout your life.
01:00 The more that you invest in that process--
01:04 The more successful you'll be.
01:05 So that commitment-- it takes commitment?
01:07 Fortitude and even when it gets vary you can't see,
01:11 what's going to happen, you got to stay with that.
01:14 And it takes motivation.
01:15 It takes a lot of motivation.
01:17 And also what about peer pressure,
01:18 you know, you coming from high school
01:20 going to college and even coming out of college?
01:22 Well, the thing about peer pressure is consistent,
01:25 whether like you say whether you are in high school, college
01:28 or wherever, even though in the--
01:30 in the work force.
01:31 But the way you deal with peer pressure
01:34 is the most significant thing.
01:36 You have to have really intestinal fortitude
01:39 to resist some of the things that occur
01:41 when your friends are trying to encourage to do
01:43 the things against your-- you know,
01:45 what you're used to doing.
01:46 Because you want to keep your eye on the prize,
01:48 we know the prize is Jesus Christ
01:50 but the prize will also come as you stay focused.
01:53 I want to share us something with you Arthur,
01:55 according to recent stats, statistics graduation rate
01:59 for African-American females 42 percent.
02:03 Forty two percent. Forty percent.
02:05 Where is the graduation rate for African-American males?
02:08 Thirty five. Thirty five.
02:10 But-- but-- but I have good news.
02:12 We have increased by two percent
02:14 in the last year, all right.
02:17 Well, it increasing or doing better is good.
02:20 You know, but it's not good enough.
02:22 But we want to get to the 100 percent.
02:24 I've seen our young people,
02:26 African-Americans from your school.
02:27 I'm really concerned about 35 percent
02:29 for African-American male.
02:30 Most definitely, you know, now let me say this,
02:33 I want to read a quote to you, all right.
02:35 William J Edwards,
02:37 "Education is the source of all and what we have
02:41 and the spring of all our future joys."
02:43 Yes. William J Edward.
02:46 And then I want to read another one Charles Hamilton Houston
02:49 "Without education, without education,
02:53 there is no hope for our people
02:55 and without hope, our future is lost."
02:59 Excellent, you know, and I agree 100 percent.
03:02 You know, but that's something is better than that,
03:04 Hosea 4:6, "My people perish from the lack of knowledge."
03:09 All right. Okay.
03:10 So I-- I just want to just give a little history.
03:13 We're gonna be talking to three young ladies today.
03:15 But first we're gonna start off with two.
03:18 And we are just excited to have them both Bria Sanford
03:22 and we also have Regina Gray.
03:24 Welcome to "Making it Work."
03:26 Hi. Hi.
03:27 Did I say the names correctly?
03:28 No. Sanford.
03:29 I say, I did it again.
03:31 Well, listen, well, listening,
03:33 I'm going get it right throughout the show.
03:34 Listen, I want to welcome you both to "Making It Work."
03:38 We're talking about you making it successful out here.
03:42 You just completed high school, now, Regina,
03:44 you complete high school at Peterson-Warren Academy?
03:46 Yes. Okay.
03:48 And Bria, where did you complete?
03:49 Waverly High School.
03:50 Waverly High School.
03:51 Where is that? In Lansing, Michigan.
03:53 Lansing, Michigan. Okay, so now...
03:57 Why was finishing high school so important, Regina?
04:01 Finishing high school was important to me
04:03 because I have family members that graduated
04:06 from high school at age 15.
04:08 And they were the topper of their class graduating.
04:11 So I know with my mom,
04:12 being on my back you must get A's and B's no C's
04:15 and that she really worked hard to get to A's,
04:17 to get A's and maybe like one C.
04:20 But if I do get a C is punishment
04:22 and I know I got to step my game up.
04:24 Education to me is like getting me ready for college
04:27 and to head on with my major and to learn more.
04:30 Just like I'm in college now
04:32 and I'm still learning information
04:33 when I go to Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama.
04:36 Because you started college
04:37 before hand you're in a community college.
04:39 And you're taking how many classes?
04:41 I'm taking two. Two.
04:43 English.
04:44 But said is like oh, I'm taking two.
04:47 And I love them. And you love the work?
04:49 I love the work.
04:50 It's like even though I stay up like
04:52 four o'clock in the morning, but me writing the papers,
04:55 I have to have one C on one of my paper
04:57 and that how things appears
04:58 for teaching me the English skills.
05:00 So you're getting-- you're getting
05:01 and that's what I do before I love to go off to school,
05:04 I started at the community college,
05:05 took some classes and I came in as an advance freshman
05:09 and it was worth it, all right.
05:11 So you-- you decided
05:13 to take these classes to better you life
05:15 because we know education
05:17 improves the quality of our lives
05:19 Okay, now you're going to be what's your major?
05:22 Social work with the minor Spanish.
05:25 ( speaking in foreign language )
05:31 Stop there.
05:33 I'm so happy for you.
05:34 And I like that. Actually that been pretty well.
05:38 That you know Brother Nowlin is a social worker.
05:41 Well, you know, I'm--
05:43 I'm sure that they may my philosophy in life
05:47 is different from hers by her being
05:49 at clinical psychologist leads tend to have a difference
05:52 in understanding about certain things
05:55 and our method-- methodology in the way
05:57 we deal with things is different.
05:58 Oh, that's okay,
05:59 but we all are in this to help people.
06:02 Social work is just outstanding.
06:05 Social work is all right.
06:06 I think we have-- we have probably
06:08 the opportunity to do more then a clinical psychology.
06:11 Maybe so, but I'm just happen
06:12 to be able to sever, you know.
06:14 Now let's talk about you Bria,
06:15 what is your area, what's your major
06:17 and why did you decide to finish high school?
06:19 Okay, in my area is communications.
06:22 And the concentration public relations.
06:24 Okay.
06:26 The reason why I want to go to college
06:27 is I thought education is really important.
06:30 It builds your character,
06:32 makes you wiser the way you talk,
06:34 the way you walk, the way you handle yourself
06:35 just the education just for as you and on all aspects.
06:39 So that's why we want it.
06:40 You wanted so it was always it was never a question,
06:43 you were not like drop out of high school.
06:45 Oh, no. That was not even a option.
06:46 Because my-- oh, my mother, no.
06:47 No. Oh, no.
06:49 So what got you to a point
06:50 where you were interested in communication?
06:54 Last year I'm-- I'm really good with people
06:57 and I started liking the radio.
06:59 So that was really that helped me out there
07:01 and yeah, the radio.
07:05 Yeah, and this year you do something,
07:06 tell them what you did this summer at camp meeting.
07:08 Again camp meetings where we meet once a year
07:11 and we have a spiritual retreat for 10 days.
07:15 So tell them what happened to you
07:17 at our Lake Region camp meeting and catch up with Michigan.
07:20 Okay, so I was working, I was volunteering
07:23 at for the children's ministry to work for 10 days
07:26 and I was like, okay, I saw the radio,
07:28 and I was look like I want to be in the--
07:30 I want to be the DJ, I just wanted to do.
07:33 So somebody told me that they had opening spot
07:36 and I just volunteered to like come in maybe for a show,
07:39 and then Mr. Young he asked me,
07:43 just to do one show, I was like, yeah, thank you.
07:46 They are great Ray and Debbi Young,
07:47 they see and they see great potential in people,
07:49 and give them opportunity.
07:50 They offered us a program many years ago.
07:54 And it's been a blessing,
07:55 I thank God for that on Quiet Moment Radio.
07:58 So go ahead.
07:59 You know, communication is so vast,
08:03 I know you said that
08:05 you are more interested in radio why not TV?
08:09 I think radio, it gives you more personal.
08:12 Okay.
08:13 I think it's more personally
08:14 and TV I'm really that's not my thing.
08:18 All right, and it is good that you already know
08:20 what you want and then you put it before the Lord.
08:22 Are you both Christians?
08:24 Oh, yes.
08:25 Oh, you say that with such enthusiasm.
08:27 All right, you love the Lord? Amen.
08:29 I mean, you're young and you--
08:30 and you're still going to church.
08:33 You're still involved with the church?
08:34 Yes. Okay, why?
08:37 Well, when even playing, even my high school years
08:39 and my growing up I've learned just to trust God,
08:44 because like the situations, I had rough situations
08:47 and I learned to just trust God throughout my situations.
08:50 Yes. All right.
08:51 Well, for me I think I'm just being involved
08:54 in church is very important.
08:58 I think it's very important because we need to, you know,
09:01 when you go to church on a daily when you--
09:03 you have a big relationship with God.
09:05 And it is a big-- it's helpful
09:08 when you're in a situation, you know.
09:09 Not even if you are in a situation,
09:11 if you just want to have a conversation with the Lord.
09:13 All right. It just helps us.
09:14 So what are some of things you've done in church?
09:16 I know, the choir, you know usher, what--
09:19 what aspects that you serve the church?
09:21 I was in a usher team, I'm in the praise team.
09:25 I'm, I'm PA which is a Public Affairs.
09:30 All right.
09:31 I'm, yes, and I'm in the choir, I'm assistant.
09:36 That's nice. And I'm clerk assistant.
09:38 And a clerk assistant. So you're busy?
09:40 You-- you kind of busy in church as well,
09:42 you know, from what I know.
09:45 Yes. What you do?
09:46 I'm in a sign language group called "God's Hands of Praise."
09:49 That's a wonderful tagline.
09:50 Seem like I've heard it that before.
09:51 God's Hands of Praise. With Dr. Kim Logan-Nowlin.
09:54 Wonderful choir, who is the director?
09:56 Kim Logan-Nowlin.
09:57 Okay, I think I know her.
09:59 Yeah, you could ride along. You know, what else do you do?
10:02 Well, I helped on the praise team
10:04 just recently during communion.
10:06 I saw that.
10:07 And I sing at SJYC,
10:10 Spirit of Joy Youth Choir part of City Temple
10:13 and I'm also well, I say I was a usher
10:17 when I was seven or eight-years-old
10:19 and I was also a pathfinder
10:20 and I was alleged too many things.
10:23 So you had to give up some other things?
10:24 Yes.
10:26 Let me-- let me ask some of the--
10:28 when you're in school and you said that,
10:32 you came from a family of high achievers you know,
10:36 what about it when you have friends that
10:39 may be struggling in school and having difficulties,
10:42 do you have a volunteer your
10:44 some of your time to assist them or what?
10:46 I help some of my friends, like one of my friends have
10:48 I show what their homework.
10:50 They know to call my phone saying that,
10:52 oh, would you lend some real good knows
10:53 maybe she can help me understand this concept better.
10:56 So what I do is help my friend with homework,
11:00 what they have situations at home
11:01 then know to call my phone and I will pray with them
11:04 and bring them out that situation.
11:05 Okay, so you know, you're doing social work now.
11:08 Yes. With your friends.
11:12 That's good. We have about three minutes.
11:14 I mean, it's just so much I want to know
11:16 but how did you all come to meet
11:19 and now I understand you are gonna be roommates
11:21 at Oakwood University, Huntsville, Alabama.
11:24 Real quickly, tells how did you meet and come to base?
11:27 You go ahead.
11:29 Okay, I'm gonna cut the story short.
11:31 We met at BETA personally I was,
11:33 I was in the hall before the worship started
11:35 just on my cell phone I'm talking to my dad,
11:38 and then Bria comes up and hi, I'm Bria and--
11:42 She just walks up to you out of the blue?
11:44 Yes. And you met BETA?
11:46 Okay. So tell them what BETA is?
11:49 What is BETA stand for again?
11:50 I was the Black Conference for African-American.
11:53 Right. It was the one in Florida?
11:55 Yes. Orlando, Florida?
11:57 Okay, so you met there
11:59 and you-- did you know Regina?
12:00 I knew her around, we were in the same conference.
12:03 Okay. We are in the same conference.
12:04 So you got to see her before? Oh, Yeah.
12:06 You knew her so you kind of checking out to see about,
12:08 if she would be like a good roommate?
12:10 Oh, no, we just, hey, hi, how are you doing?
12:11 Hey, hi, how are you doing? You just introduced yourself.
12:13 Okay, and then you became friends
12:15 and then who asked, hey let's be roommates?
12:17 Who brought that up?
12:18 We kind of brought it up together.
12:19 Yeah.
12:20 That's when I decided oh, I'm going Oakwood now.
12:23 I convinced her to go to Oakwood.
12:24 Okay. Well, I'm excited.
12:26 My next question,
12:27 but I know way we're-- the time is limited.
12:29 Okay, so you're going to Oakwood.
12:30 They're going to at be attending
12:32 Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama
12:34 which is a Seventh-day Adventist
12:36 historical black college.
12:38 And I attended there.
12:40 I can speak for it, it's a wonderful school,
12:42 you're gonna have a wonderful time.
12:43 Now you're going to earn your degrees
12:45 and real quickly where you see yourself in four years?
12:48 Where do you see yourself?
12:49 I see myself as a veteran social worker counselor
12:52 and I'm also going back to school to get my masters.
12:54 Excellent.
12:56 I'll stick to get my masters.
12:57 All the way. All the way.
12:59 That is wonderful. Well, never loose sight.
13:01 I want to thank you both for being here with us.
13:04 When we return we're going to talk about the transition
13:06 from college moving on to the real world a job.
13:12 We'll be right back from with "Making It Work."
13:19 Welcome back to "Making It Work."
13:21 I'm Dr. Kim Logan-Nowlin.
13:22 I'm Arthur Nowlin.
13:23 And we have another special guest for you,
13:26 Miss. Bianca Gilbert.
13:28 We want to welcome you to "Making It Work."
13:29 Thank you for being here. Thank you for having me.
13:31 Yes. Oh, my little Bianca.
13:33 Graduate out of the social working department, right?
13:37 Yeah. That's right.
13:38 How you decide to be a social worker?
13:41 I have a passion for helping others people.
13:43 Okay.
13:44 It's always been that way for you?
13:46 Always.
13:47 I was talking you heard the statistics that 36--
13:50 46 percent black females finish college.
13:55 Why was that so important for you?
13:57 I don't want to be a part of that.
13:59 I wanted to-- I always wanted to be better
14:03 and graduate because I know family mam--
14:06 some of my family members
14:07 they never had the opportunity to go to college and--
14:10 Are you the first collage graduate in your family?
14:12 Yes. Really?
14:13 Congratulations. Thank you.
14:16 So you say, you've always felt that way,
14:18 you felt motivated to do that, you know.
14:20 To graduate.
14:21 So what made you-- I know you said that
14:25 you enjoy helping people, you know,
14:27 but what really steer to you to that particular school?
14:31 Social works?
14:34 Actually, I didn't really know much about social work.
14:37 One of my-- I was major in biology premed
14:40 and one of my friends mention it to me,
14:42 and said, you are gonna fit for it.
14:44 So I took a few classes for it
14:46 and it changed my life, I love it.
14:49 You were all the way down to Southern University.
14:51 In Tennessee and you completed your education.
14:55 Now, where is Bianca headed now?
14:58 To Korea, South Korea. South Korea?
15:02 What will you be doing over there in South Korea?
15:03 To teach English.
15:05 Okay. That should be interesting.
15:07 I'm excited. And should be.
15:08 So in a process you'll be learning Korean?
15:11 Yes. Okay.
15:13 And I have a translator in the room with me--
15:15 Okay. So that'll be a big help.
15:17 Do you know what grades you'll teaching?
15:18 No. Okay.
15:19 It vary some.
15:20 It will be probably English for everybody.
15:22 Okay. Yeah.
15:23 Why Korea? Why Korea?
15:25 I just wanted to--
15:26 I always want to do mission work
15:28 but Korea one of my cousins is in Korea right now.
15:31 He has telling me how wonderful it is there so.
15:35 Just decided to go there it's really you know--
15:38 Do you know what city that you be in?
15:40 Seoul, South Korea. Now you be in Seoul.
15:41 That's the capital to it. Excellent.
15:44 Well, I have to mention that
15:45 Bianca also served many, many years.
15:48 She was our first baby in God's Hands of Praise,
15:51 she was five-years-old.
15:53 I will never forget we were in Bermuda the Island Bermuda
15:56 and Bianca came out really before that
15:58 when she came out on stage at a concert hall
16:00 and someone was like,
16:01 what is this little baby going to do?
16:03 And she-- people were in tears,
16:05 people stick to their feet
16:07 and she did the entire solo by herself
16:09 on this stage five years of age.
16:12 And then we went to Bermuda. You remember that, Bianca?
16:14 Yes, I've nerve forget.
16:15 You were just our joy. Everyone spoiled you.
16:18 You know, it was great to be in Bermuda.
16:20 Except for when Kim had that accident in swimming pool.
16:25 Well, I don't think Bianca was there.
16:26 But anyway God worked it out and got me through that.
16:29 She wasn't?
16:30 No, she was with her mom.
16:31 She is five-years-old, remember?
16:33 Bianca was only five and so she was with her mom.
16:36 But when you talk about education
16:38 and your focus, ever since I've known
16:40 you as a child you've been focused.
16:42 Where does that come from?
16:45 God and my parents.
16:47 Yes, oh, let's talk about God and what God fits in your life?
16:52 I don't know, He's like my best friend.
16:54 I talk to Him each and every day.
16:56 I depend on Him for everything, so--
16:59 Did you see something else with baby Bianca in prison,
17:03 on drugs, dropping out of school,
17:06 you know, having children and were children
17:09 but you stayed focus, you know
17:12 because you want something better for your life.
17:14 You know, what do you say to someone
17:16 who is in a struggle right now?
17:18 Whether I shall go to college, should I wait and work?
17:21 What would you say to a young person today?
17:23 Go to college, do it now
17:25 because if you continue to wait you might
17:27 you know change your mind\ or you never know
17:30 what life brings, so just took--
17:33 And you had some struggles,
17:34 you had struggles getting through college with tuition
17:37 and but God always made a way for you.
17:39 He really did.
17:40 You have many testimonies about that.
17:42 Oh, yes I do.
17:44 You know and-- and but you continue
17:45 to give your mom the glory.
17:47 Well, did you date in college?
17:48 I did my--
17:50 You dated, Bianca? I did.
17:52 Please, take that word back, okay.
17:54 It was little short relationship.
17:55 Okay.
17:57 It was my freshman in sophomore year.
17:59 Did you remember celibate, if I can ask you that?
18:01 Yes, I have.
18:02 All right, I believe in being transparent
18:04 because you can't help people, if you're not transparent.
18:06 And why is being celibate
18:07 so important for you at your age?
18:10 Well, its-- I'm not-- I'm not ready to have a kid
18:14 but I see a lot of my friends who are having babies
18:16 and I'm just-- I'm just not ready.
18:19 You're just not ready for that. Yeah, I'm not.
18:21 Or even intimate sexual relationship?
18:23 Not yet.
18:25 That's a lot of lot of responsibility, isn't it?
18:26 It is. It is.
18:27 You know so education is important to you.
18:29 So what-- how does Bianca get her me time, me time?
18:33 I don't have much me time for a day
18:36 but when I do, I do spend a time
18:38 with my family or do things with my friends.
18:41 That's what important to you of your family.
18:43 Yes, most definitely.
18:45 Now let me ask you served the church
18:46 like God's Hands of Praise but you were in the youth choir
18:50 and you-- other aspects of the church that you served?
18:54 Well, at City Temple I was usher,
18:55 youth choir, God's Hands of Praise.
18:58 I did some work for the Soup Kitchen.
19:01 There in that school I was a little active not really.
19:05 Now you-- do you believe that the church
19:06 prepares young people for the work of the Lord?
19:08 Yes. Okay.
19:10 Yes, I do believe that. Okay.
19:13 Well, some of the things that I want to allow--
19:18 I want God to do for you is just don't tie His hands.
19:23 Be open to learn. Be wise, pray for wisdom.
19:26 I will.
19:28 Please, you know when you travel,
19:30 already know your mom and dad is gonna give you the speech.
19:32 Be with a group, all right. I know you will.
19:36 Do you have any apprehensions
19:37 or you know things about going to Korea?
19:40 I am a little nervous because I don't really know
19:42 what to expect but I'm just excited
19:46 to give my life started,
19:47 just starting something to do what I can.
19:50 I would have never thought my shy little, Bianca.
19:54 You just never know. You're still shy.
19:57 You know would be able to do, God is a wonderful God.
20:00 You know, has anyone else
20:02 from your school going to Korea?
20:03 Yes, I'm actually now all my best friends.
20:05 Wow.
20:06 So yes, we're going together
20:08 and then I have a cousin there so I won't be by myself.
20:11 That's gonna be blessing.
20:13 You know, have you been studying
20:14 and researching the food about the food over there?
20:16 I heard a lot of things about the--
20:18 kind of might become a vegetarian
20:20 you know, once I go to Korea.
20:22 Okay. But yeah--
20:25 We researched a little.
20:26 I'm still trying to learn Korean
20:28 its very, very difficult.
20:30 Okay, do you plan on staying in Korea
20:33 or when you come back home
20:34 do you plan to earn your master's degree?
20:36 Yes. Why is that important?
20:38 I just, I want to
20:41 because first of all for social work
20:43 you can't really get a good job with just a bachelor's degree.
20:48 So I want to continue to get my masters
20:50 and but maybe get my degree in occupational therapy.
20:54 Oh, okay.
20:55 But that's still upon the carriages
20:56 and another thought.
20:58 Okay, occupational therapy.
21:00 Well, you know-- I know,
21:03 whether Nowlin has his license of social work.
21:05 So you have, you're gonna have some mentors here to help you.
21:08 And it's gonna be a blessing.
21:09 You even have a place to come and mentor that clinic.
21:12 You can come, he would love to put you to work, all right
21:15 because you know he loves the God cause, all right.
21:17 He will be a excellent mentor
21:20 and a place for you to do your internship.
21:23 I've seen great things happen in people's lives
21:25 because in the field of social work.
21:28 It would probably really interesting if you,
21:31 when you make your decision
21:33 on what particular area of social work
21:35 people want to work in, you know, so you know,
21:37 you like working with people so that's gonna be
21:40 something working with children, people, families.
21:43 So you know enjoy your-- your mission out
21:46 in Korea in teaching English
21:48 and coming back and speak in Korean.
21:50 That's gonna be great. We'll see.
21:52 You are single. You're not married.
21:54 No children, girl, enjoy your life.
21:56 Not to say being married and having chosen
21:58 it's wonderful when you're ready for it.
22:01 You know, but taking your life
22:04 and looking at your life just say,
22:06 I can do something different.
22:07 I can take a risk
22:08 and Brother Nowlin always says what?
22:10 Take a risk. Take a risk.
22:11 You don't know what God has for you.
22:14 But God is a God of greatness
22:17 and so therefore you know there are things that
22:19 He can do over and abundantly for you.
22:22 And that He has for you.
22:23 And I believe Bianca that He has someone there special
22:27 for you to witness to about Jesus Christ.
22:29 Oh, yes, He most definitely have I believe that too.
22:32 Okay. Well, listen, any closing remarks to young people today
22:37 who are in a struggle about education?
22:38 We got get about a minute or so,
22:40 you know what can you say?
22:41 You know, we got about five minutes.
22:42 What do you say to young people today?
22:44 You know they're thinking about going the wrong way.
22:47 Get them back on track Bianca, get them back.
22:50 Keep God first, just once you finish high school
22:55 continue on if that you know,
22:57 if that's what you want to do but definitely continue on.
23:01 Education is very important
23:03 and it will get you far in life.
23:06 Do you talk to your sister much about education
23:09 or your brother you know?
23:11 Yeah, talk to both of them.
23:12 She's actually, she was graduated valedictorian
23:16 and my brother just graduated from high school.
23:19 So he didn't fall into that. He's finished high school.
23:22 Yeah, he's is finished.
23:23 Did you talk to him about one particular school
23:24 he's interested in going to?
23:26 No, I think he's still undecided.
23:29 Okay, and you have a older brother.
23:31 Yes. So there's four of you.
23:32 You know, and so that's-- that's a tremendous achievement
23:36 and now your mother and father.
23:37 Your whole family they're proud of you.
23:39 You know, what do you remember when you saw a Brother Nowlin
23:44 and I you will come to our home you will be with us
23:47 and we will talk about a mentorship program education.
23:51 And you knew we had education.
23:53 You know and we would always try to encourage.
23:56 I just prayed and give Nowlin honor to God
23:58 that there was something we did, something
24:01 we said that encouraged you to go all the way also.
24:04 I like to believe that--
24:06 You know and to push our choir members
24:08 and I was stressed that your homework
24:12 and you were kind of grace, you making me to
24:13 you are not on that on a roll or something is going--
24:16 you can't be in God's Hands of Praise
24:17 because how you're gonna come to rehearse
24:19 and you didn't do well in this class.
24:21 So I like to believe that.
24:23 I think she always demonstrated a calm character.
24:27 You always was they are you paid attention,
24:30 you know, you were involved.
24:31 So I mean those same attributes that
24:34 you demonstrated as a youth
24:36 you want to take it to Korea
24:38 and also pass it on to somebody else.
24:40 So you know I know that you would definitely be successful.
24:43 Thank you. You will be very successful.
24:45 Bianca, I'm gonna miss you.
24:47 For this year we have the technology
24:50 and we have things to communicate with
24:53 and also I want to get back to writing letters.
24:57 You know the internet has made us
24:58 so easy for us to just become so lat
25:02 what to send you a care package,
25:05 you know what's your favorite cookies?
25:07 Oatmeal Raisin Walnut.
25:09 Oh, mine too, oatmeal raisin.
25:11 And we're going to send you some care pack
25:13 that you know that we here at home we miss you,
25:16 we love you, we're thinking about you.
25:18 Thank you. I want to say to--
25:20 First of all thank you Bianca, for being with us.
25:22 Our prayers go with you, you know
25:24 and we thank God for you.
25:25 Any closing remarks, Arthur?
25:27 I'm just encouraged, I'm encouraged that
25:29 you should continue to demonstrate the character
25:33 that you've always demonstrated.
25:34 I'm encouraged about the fact that
25:36 you said that you enjoy helping people.
25:39 That's really significant
25:40 because we're dealing with a time
25:41 now where helping people
25:43 is going to be really essential.
25:45 Also this is your time, you know,
25:48 you're at a point in your life where you can choose
25:51 and have the opportunity to make good sound decisions.
25:54 And that's been demonstrated and your application in college
25:59 you know, to the things that you've done over the years
26:03 the different participating in God's Hands of Praise.
26:06 So I know that you're gonna have a very successful life.
26:10 Oh, thank you, I appreciate that.
26:11 You know, I just want to go back
26:13 and it'll be a couple of points.
26:17 Keeping God first, your Bible,
26:22 stand on His word don't deviate.
26:25 If you lack wisdom ask for God
26:28 and allow people to see God in you.
26:31 And the lives that you touch you will see those same people
26:33 when Jesus comes again.
26:35 We're living in prayer-less times, Bianca.
26:37 We're living in dangerous times.
26:39 And the enemy wants to-- he's out to kill,
26:42 steal and destroy but God is able.
26:44 He is protecting.
26:45 You know, the Bible says in Psalms 91:11,
26:47 I give my angels charge
26:49 over you to protect you wherever you go.
26:52 So we touch and agree in that. Can we touch and agree in that?
26:55 Yes, yes I agree.
26:56 All right, listen, no matter where you are
26:59 in our own station of life
27:00 it's never too late to go back to school,
27:02 it's never too late to begin school
27:05 and to look at your career.
27:06 Start a business enhance your life
27:08 but don't just sit there.
27:10 Get up and just get motivated
27:12 and like my husband says take a risk,
27:15 try something different, do something different.
27:18 Get involved in your community.
27:19 Get involved going to visit the nursing homes.
27:23 You know getting involved in other programs
27:25 but as Bianca said the platform as I mentioned the church.
27:29 Getting involved and developing those skills
27:32 will help you enhance you personally and professionally.
27:36 And I think another thing to add to that is the fact that
27:38 you need to expect success.
27:41 Oh.
27:42 You know and that's really important.
27:43 Never look at that if you get knocked down that
27:47 you're gonna stay down,
27:49 you know, keep moving forward and expect success.
27:52 That's right, you may fall down
27:54 but you got the Word get back up.
27:57 So we want all of us
27:58 to constantly continue to start,
28:00 again I'm motivated, you've motivated me,
28:03 what am I gonna take on tomorrow
28:05 All right because it's all about growing.
28:08 Well, listen, thank you for joining us
28:10 on the Making of Success,
28:12 Bianca Gilbert and being with us.
28:14 We wish you well in Korea, God bless you.
28:16 I'm Dr. Kim Logan Nowlin. I'm Arthur Nowlin.
28:18 And let's continue to "Making It Work."
28:21 God bless.
