Sauna treatment has been around for hundreds of years 00:00:01.36\00:00:02.83 in Japan, Turkey, India, Finland Ancient Greeks enjoy 00:00:02.86\00:00:06.87 their steam baths, Native Americans have their 00:00:06.90\00:00:09.17 sweating huts. The Fins call it the poor man's pharmacy 00:00:09.20\00:00:12.57 and for good reason. 00:00:12.61\00:00:13.94 In one Finnish study death from cardiovascular disease 00:00:13.98\00:00:16.95 was 50% lower for men who were in the Sauna four to seven 00:00:16.98\00:00:20.85 times a week. 00:00:20.88\00:00:22.22 It's been found to improve depression, reduce the risk 00:00:22.25\00:00:24.55 of dementia, kill viruses, but the reason why 00:00:24.59\00:00:28.02 I'm bringing it to your attention today 00:00:28.06\00:00:29.52 is because it's a powerful tool to support detox 00:00:29.56\00:00:32.66 at least for those who are willing to undergo the torture, 00:00:32.69\00:00:35.53 I mean the relaxation of Sauna's. 00:00:35.56\00:00:38.70 In the last episode, we became more aware of how exposed 00:00:57.59\00:01:01.19 we are to environmental toxicants. 00:01:01.22\00:01:03.46 We also looked at how we aren't the only ones, 00:01:03.49\00:01:06.19 animal life is groaning under exposure as well. 00:01:06.23\00:01:09.70 I've even read about how scientists have found 00:01:09.73\00:01:12.27 what they call forever chemicals in polar bears, 00:01:12.30\00:01:15.30 chemicals many of us have come in contact with 00:01:15.34\00:01:17.77 on a daily basis and that is disrupting their biological 00:01:17.81\00:01:22.01 functions like damage to their immune, digestive and 00:01:22.04\00:01:25.48 reproductive systems, polar bears are even becoming 00:01:25.51\00:01:30.62 hypothyroid, can you imagine? 00:01:30.65\00:01:32.22 The chemicals we release into the environment find their way 00:01:32.25\00:01:34.76 into the water, the seas, the oceans and in fish. 00:01:34.79\00:01:38.09 Sadly the contaminants concentrate up the food chain 00:01:38.13\00:01:42.10 we are definitely not the only ones being affected. 00:01:42.13\00:01:45.60 One of the things I would like to clarify is the distinction 00:01:45.63\00:01:48.67 between toxin and toxicant. Technically a toxin is like 00:01:48.70\00:01:54.41 snake venom a natural substance produced from living organism 00:01:54.44\00:01:58.01 whereas a toxicant is an environment chemical that 00:01:58.05\00:02:01.68 potentially is harmful to us. 00:02:01.72\00:02:03.59 Many people simply refer to environmental chemicals as 00:02:03.62\00:02:06.49 toxins, so we'll try to stick to that term to make it easy 00:02:06.52\00:02:10.19 but just so you know the difference and what's 00:02:10.23\00:02:12.79 being referred to by the term. 00:02:12.83\00:02:14.60 When I first heard people talking about detoxing 00:02:14.63\00:02:17.70 it was in reference to nicotine or alcohol, drugs. 00:02:17.73\00:02:20.94 You hear about people going on cleanses and juicing's 00:02:20.97\00:02:23.84 and while I think all of that can be very helpful, 00:02:23.87\00:02:26.78 detox is something your body is designed to do on the daily 00:02:26.81\00:02:30.95 clean-as-you-go type of thing. 00:02:30.98\00:02:33.01 That's not to say that focusing on supporting on detox 00:02:33.05\00:02:35.68 as an event, isn't needed at times, intentional focus 00:02:35.72\00:02:39.15 detox protocol is actually a good idea even preventively. 00:02:39.19\00:02:43.19 I want to do that for myself actually, but the main point 00:02:43.22\00:02:46.33 is that the body is designed to clean house on the daily. 00:02:46.36\00:02:50.23 So, what are we referring to when we use the word 00:02:50.27\00:02:53.84 detox? A simple definition of detoxification is the removal 00:02:53.87\00:02:57.71 of contaminants, toxins from the body. 00:02:57.74\00:03:00.61 We've been exposed, they've entered and the body 00:03:00.64\00:03:04.05 kicks them out because they don't belong inside of us. 00:03:04.08\00:03:06.68 Sounds simple enough, but in reality detoxification 00:03:06.72\00:03:10.69 is complex to perform. It's complicated and it requires 00:03:10.72\00:03:14.82 multiple players, multiple enzymes, nutrients, 00:03:14.86\00:03:18.26 different steps, it's a process that goes on inside of us 00:03:18.29\00:03:21.90 all day, every day and it is essentially a transformation 00:03:21.93\00:03:25.83 process in which any substance that would be harmful 00:03:25.87\00:03:29.57 especially if it's allowed to accumulate is changed by 00:03:29.60\00:03:32.97 the liver and other cells into a less harmful water-soluble 00:03:33.01\00:03:36.88 form so it then can be incorporated into your urine, 00:03:36.91\00:03:40.22 stool, sweat, and excreted safely from the body. 00:03:40.25\00:03:44.39 We think of the liver as the detoxification headquarters 00:03:44.42\00:03:47.86 and for good reason, but really, detox is something that 00:03:47.89\00:03:51.83 every cell needs to be able to perform well. 00:03:51.86\00:03:55.80 Detoxification is a multi-step process that takes toxins 00:03:55.83\00:04:00.20 that have sometimes been sequestered in the body 00:04:00.24\00:04:03.04 to protect it like skeletons in the closet. 00:04:03.07\00:04:05.77 It brings them out and converts them into water-soluble 00:04:05.81\00:04:09.34 molecule that can be eliminated from the body in your breath, 00:04:09.38\00:04:13.92 sweat, stool, and urine. 00:04:13.95\00:04:16.08 I call it an expensive procedure just because it requires 00:04:16.12\00:04:20.02 a lot of different nutrients to support and enable it to be 00:04:20.06\00:04:23.32 done effectively in a healthy way. 00:04:23.36\00:04:25.99 Some of our efforts at detox can potentially be doing 00:04:26.03\00:04:28.86 more harm than good if we don't cover our bases. 00:04:28.90\00:04:32.07 Now in our last episode we touched on the fact that we are 00:04:32.10\00:04:35.20 exposed. Some of the ways in which we are exposed 00:04:35.24\00:04:37.91 and how that exposure is affecting our health. 00:04:37.94\00:04:40.88 Today, we're going to continue that focus and gain some 00:04:40.91\00:04:44.78 insights on how to support daily detox. 00:04:44.81\00:04:48.35 So, we have introduced toxins' everywhere, 00:04:48.38\00:04:52.59 they actually found Prozac, measurable quantities of 00:04:52.62\00:04:57.46 medications that we use as humans in fish. 00:04:57.49\00:05:00.13 and fish. So we've introduced chemicals into the world 00:05:00.16\00:05:04.07 around us from arsenic in some rice to chicken, 00:05:04.10\00:05:08.64 to foods, and fish that have these toxins and much that 00:05:08.67\00:05:13.78 we don't even know about because we don't measure 00:05:13.81\00:05:16.08 we don't go around regularly measuring toxins and a 00:05:16.11\00:05:20.22 broad range of toxins. 00:05:20.25\00:05:21.58 Now, I'm not trying to scare people, 00:05:21.62\00:05:22.95 it's okay we can do a lot of healthy things to counter that 00:05:22.98\00:05:26.62 but it's important for us to have conversation 00:05:26.65\00:05:28.86 about these things and start having systems in place 00:05:28.89\00:05:32.13 where we can actually measure things we know and look 00:05:32.16\00:05:35.56 for the things that we don't know. 00:05:35.60\00:05:37.03 Because otherwise, it's like running around blind 00:05:37.07\00:05:40.77 with the obvious factor that we have toxins in our system. 00:05:40.80\00:05:44.47 and in our food system and in our environmental system, 00:05:44.51\00:05:47.21 and our agricultural system and just ignore it, 00:05:47.24\00:05:51.01 that's not wise. 00:05:51.05\00:05:53.08 Can you imagine Prozac in fish? 00:05:53.11\00:05:56.69 They even found glyphosate in rainwater, 00:05:56.72\00:05:59.09 they found hundreds of chemicals in the umbilical cord 00:05:59.12\00:06:02.19 blood. We're being exposed in the womb, yeah, 00:06:02.22\00:06:06.33 chemicals from stain and oil repellents, 00:06:06.36\00:06:08.86 from fast food packaging and microwave popcorn 00:06:08.90\00:06:12.00 clothes, textiles, forever chemicals from Teflon, 00:06:12.03\00:06:16.17 brominated flame retardants, and pesticides. 00:06:16.20\00:06:19.47 Individually these chemicals are toxic to the brain 00:06:19.51\00:06:23.38 or nervous system and we don't even know the dangers 00:06:23.41\00:06:26.31 and the damage when we combine them. 00:06:26.35\00:06:28.65 We're not just exposed to them individually, it's not helping 00:06:28.68\00:06:32.59 us to ignore what's going on, but awareness is only good 00:06:32.62\00:06:37.23 that's helpful. Otherwise it just becomes one more thing 00:06:37.26\00:06:40.83 outside of my control to worry about. 00:06:40.86\00:06:42.96 What can we do? 00:06:43.00\00:06:44.33 Well, the first step is to reduce exposure and then support 00:06:44.37\00:06:48.20 the body's detox efforts. 00:06:48.24\00:06:49.87 Reducing exposure includes what we put on our skin, 00:06:49.90\00:06:53.34 what we breathe in, what we put into our mouths. 00:06:53.38\00:06:55.64 So my husband and I what we slowly done is we've learned 00:06:55.68\00:06:59.51 about all these different toxins because our 00:06:59.55\00:07:01.88 desire is to live as healthy as possible and to minimize 00:07:01.92\00:07:04.92 the impact of our body being influenced by these toxins. 00:07:04.95\00:07:08.99 I'm glad she said slowly because it can be completely 00:07:09.02\00:07:13.23 overwhelming when you look around your house and realize 00:07:13.26\00:07:16.16 that they are in a lot of products that we have in our 00:07:16.20\00:07:18.43 cupboards and our shelves, walking down the aisles of 00:07:18.47\00:07:21.17 stores when you typically purchase items you use 00:07:21.20\00:07:24.11 and you realize it's everywhere. 00:07:24.14\00:07:26.91 And so we've transitioned to glass or stainless steel 00:07:26.94\00:07:30.95 for all of our storage containers, 00:07:30.98\00:07:33.05 we've transitioned away from certain cooking materials, 00:07:33.08\00:07:37.82 to just ceramic that is inert, and so there's a lot of 00:07:37.85\00:07:41.49 transitions we've transitioned away from toxins in our 00:07:41.52\00:07:44.46 shampoo's and our conditioners, and our lotions and our 00:07:44.49\00:07:47.20 laundry detergents, and our cleaning supplies, 00:07:47.23\00:07:49.03 and our house, and all of those kinds of things that we 00:07:49.06\00:07:51.40 slowly worked on for the last number of years. 00:07:51.43\00:07:53.70 For that very reason one of the resources I give to my 00:07:53.74\00:07:58.34 patients is environmental workgroup and they have an app 00:07:58.37\00:08:01.74 and on that app and that website you can actually look 00:08:01.78\00:08:04.71 up...And they have the Dirty Dozen which are the 12 foods 00:08:04.75\00:08:08.78 that have the heaviest pesticide laden spraying that can be 00:08:08.82\00:08:14.12 problematic. And so I always tell my patients like okay 00:08:14.16\00:08:16.76 these are The Dirty Dozen, these are The Clean Fifteen 00:08:16.79\00:08:19.03 that I go come out from EWG and if you are going to buy 00:08:19.06\00:08:22.56 organic, buy the Dirty Dozen organic so those are things like 00:08:22.60\00:08:26.33 your apples, and your peaches, and your berries and your 00:08:26.37\00:08:28.57 green leafy' s and a few other things and so those are the 00:08:28.60\00:08:32.64 ones those are the ones that will be the best for you 00:08:32.67\00:08:34.48 to buy organic if you can't buy everything organic. 00:08:34.51\00:08:36.38 Reducing exposure and gradually changing the products 00:08:36.41\00:08:41.45 and the cookware we use is good. 00:08:41.48\00:08:43.52 Another thing we can do reduce exposure is have a 00:08:43.55\00:08:46.45 healthy gut border, we tackled leaky gut in the last episode 00:08:46.49\00:08:50.13 but it's worthwhile bringing it up again in the context 00:08:50.16\00:08:53.19 of this topic. 00:08:53.23\00:08:54.56 Well, we definitely need to be mindful about where these 00:08:54.60\00:08:59.73 toxins come from...One of the things to do to prevent 00:08:59.77\00:09:05.77 the accumulation of all these toxins is to really be aware 00:09:05.81\00:09:10.65 of all the toxic substances in our environment. 00:09:10.68\00:09:14.28 But as some of them enter into our without us being aware of it 00:09:14.32\00:09:20.66 we should instead of focusing on specific toxins, 00:09:20.69\00:09:25.29 we should try to create a healthy body. 00:09:25.33\00:09:29.43 You know and then also in a lot of the products that we 00:09:29.46\00:09:32.73 put on your skin, we can be exposed to toxins that way. 00:09:32.77\00:09:39.01 The reason you are able to smell things is because 00:09:39.04\00:09:41.91 particles at a microscopic level are going through the nose 00:09:41.94\00:09:45.81 hitting those nerves, those olfactory nerves okay, 00:09:45.85\00:09:50.75 to give you the smell and subsequently the taste 00:09:50.79\00:09:53.72 if it's going through the mouth it's going into the body, 00:09:53.76\00:09:56.26 the body has to get rid of that stuff. 00:09:56.29\00:09:58.39 That thought is a little eerie we smell because particles 00:09:58.43\00:10:02.63 are entering our nose. It doesn't sound bad when 00:10:02.66\00:10:05.10 it comes to smells that I love, good smells, 00:10:05.13\00:10:07.14 but we are also exposed to bad smells. 00:10:07.17\00:10:09.14 Walk down the street of some European cities and 00:10:09.17\00:10:11.67 instead of the smell of baked bread in some local Boulangerie 00:10:11.71\00:10:14.44 all you smell is cigarette smoke and you are just 00:10:14.48\00:10:17.45 taking that in. Walk into some homes and it smells perfect 00:10:17.48\00:10:20.72 like you just stepped into a field of wildflowers 00:10:20.75\00:10:22.92 which seems great except that odor comes from a plastic gadget 00:10:22.95\00:10:27.39 that plugged into the wall releasing small amounts 00:10:27.42\00:10:30.33 endocrine disruptors into the air. Their smell-good chemicals 00:10:30.36\00:10:35.00 but they are chemicals none-the-less. 00:10:35.03\00:10:36.77 On top of that, there's the topic of off-gassing. 00:10:36.80\00:10:40.47 This is the airborne release of chemicals, 00:10:40.50\00:10:43.71 a chemical in vapor form from stuff we have in our homes, 00:10:43.74\00:10:46.98 the flooring, the furnishings, it can come from new cars, 00:10:47.01\00:10:50.38 newer furniture and products. We breathe them in unknowingly 00:10:50.41\00:10:54.28 and they get dumped in our body's toxic burden bucket. 00:10:54.32\00:10:57.95 We all have a bucket that is supposed to be empty 00:10:57.99\00:11:00.96 when we are born but as we touched on, modern babies 00:11:00.99\00:11:04.43 can be born already exposed to hundreds of environmental 00:11:04.46\00:11:08.23 chemicals while in the womb. 00:11:08.26\00:11:09.70 And then, they are sucking on plastic toys and drinking milk 00:11:09.73\00:11:13.07 from plastic bottles, getting chemicals slathered 00:11:13.10\00:11:15.50 on their skin, flame retardants in their clothes and as life 00:11:15.54\00:11:19.71 goes on the bucket is potentially getting filled up. 00:11:19.74\00:11:23.21 We're supposed to be detoxing from stuff as we go but 00:11:23.24\00:11:26.28 sometimes it's just too much, the bucket starts overflowing 00:11:26.31\00:11:30.69 and we develop different kinds of health conditions. 00:11:30.72\00:11:34.06 God made the body so that we could get in to some toxins, 00:11:34.09\00:11:38.83 we have Glutathione that is supposed to clean these toxins 00:11:38.86\00:11:41.90 out, Glutathione is made by protein so we have protein 00:11:41.93\00:11:45.60 in our foods okay. But when we get this mass of problems 00:11:45.63\00:11:52.67 either due to cigarette smoke, alcohol, chemical that 00:11:52.71\00:11:57.45 we're using to clean the house, even paint fumes, car exhaust, 00:11:57.48\00:12:02.92 diesel, all that kind of stuff. 00:12:02.95\00:12:05.09 We can't get rid of a lot of that stuff unless we do 00:12:05.12\00:12:10.46 something else in addition. 00:12:10.49\00:12:12.66 Okay, good, now we're going to get in to how to support 00:12:12.69\00:12:16.20 the body's house cleaning or detox. 00:12:16.23\00:12:18.47 So, the first thing we learned was to minimize exposure 00:12:18.50\00:12:21.10 you don't want to keep adding to our bucket. 00:12:21.14\00:12:23.41 Do you know that scientists have found micro plastics 00:12:23.44\00:12:26.61 in our bloodstream, brain, lungs, even men's testicles 00:12:26.64\00:12:30.01 and semen? I'm sorry to say micro plastics in the most 00:12:30.05\00:12:33.72 intimate recesses of male reproductive anatomy 00:12:33.75\00:12:36.89 and researchers have hypothesized that this heavy 00:12:36.92\00:12:40.02 concentration of micro plastics in the testicles may be 00:12:40.06\00:12:43.06 a factor of the global decline and sperm count in 00:12:43.09\00:12:46.53 male infertility. 00:12:46.56\00:12:47.90 We can also have a bio- accumulation of toxic metals 00:12:47.93\00:12:51.17 in our bodies which has been found to disrupt Vitamin D 00:12:51.20\00:12:54.14 functioning and hinder calcium uptake. 00:12:54.17\00:12:56.60 I'm really hoping that this information will motivate you 00:12:56.64\00:13:00.54 to take this topic seriously and work on minimizing 00:13:00.58\00:13:03.58 your exposure, but what about the exposure we've already had? 00:13:03.61\00:13:07.85 How can we support our body being able to get rid of these 00:13:07.88\00:13:11.12 compounds? 00:13:11.15\00:13:12.49 You can use nutrition, nutrition and natural therapy so 00:13:12.52\00:13:16.86 even things like your cruciferous vegetable family 00:13:16.89\00:13:21.20 are significant detoxifiers, so this is your Brussel Sprouts, 00:13:21.23\00:13:26.20 your Broccoli, your Cauliflower, or your Cabbage, Kale, 00:13:26.23\00:13:31.74 so those foods, if you could make sure you get a serving 00:13:31.77\00:13:34.54 or two of those every day you're going a long ways 00:13:34.58\00:13:37.68 in helping support your body detoxification. 00:13:37.71\00:13:40.78 Wow, Dr. Ray just touched on a number of practical necessary 00:13:40.82\00:13:45.75 detox ingredients, Cruciferous vegetables, drinking plenty of 00:13:45.79\00:13:49.52 good pure water, and deep breathing, High fiber plant- 00:13:49.56\00:13:52.96 based diet, healthy bowel movements, earlier Dr. Sheer 00:13:52.99\00:13:56.77 mentioned Glutathione which is one of the body's most 00:13:56.80\00:13:59.40 powerful and valuable antioxidants found in nearly 00:13:59.43\00:14:02.30 every cell in your body, Glutathione is absolutely 00:14:02.34\00:14:05.24 necessary for good detox. 00:14:05.27\00:14:07.04 There are various things we can do to support our body's 00:14:07.08\00:14:10.18 production of Glutathione's certain vegetables we can eat 00:14:10.21\00:14:12.81 can support healthy levels and there's a very popular 00:14:12.85\00:14:15.38 supplement NAC that helps support healthy Glutathione 00:14:15.42\00:14:18.72 as well. Also, we need to be aware that our Glutathione 00:14:18.75\00:14:21.79 levels can become depleted because we just got too much 00:14:21.82\00:14:24.99 to detox from an unhealthy lifestyle or consistent 00:14:25.03\00:14:28.70 intake of alcohol or work related exposure. 00:14:28.73\00:14:31.43 Maybe we have a lot of inflammation or have had 00:14:31.47\00:14:34.47 significant mold exposure, the body needs Glutathione 00:14:34.50\00:14:37.47 to address all of this, so it's important, but it's just one cog 00:14:37.51\00:14:41.34 in the wheel of the much bigger picture. 00:14:41.38\00:14:43.61 There is a massive epidemic of non-alcoholic fatty liver 00:14:43.65\00:14:49.72 disease going on in the United States, young individuals 00:14:49.75\00:14:54.06 in their 20's and 30's with cirrhosis that is not related 00:14:54.09\00:14:58.76 to alcohol, why? Because of the horrible food products 00:14:58.79\00:15:02.06 that we're exposed to and obviously when your main 00:15:02.10\00:15:07.37 filter system is not working properly you're going to 00:15:07.40\00:15:10.74 start accumulating other toxic substances so its just again the 00:15:10.77\00:15:15.04 concept this negative spiral, when one thing falls apart, 00:15:15.08\00:15:18.18 everything else falls apart as well. 00:15:18.21\00:15:19.75 So eating healthy is one of the best ways to get rid of 00:15:19.78\00:15:23.65 toxic substances from your body. 00:15:23.69\00:15:25.35 Yeah, if you're drinking a lot of alcohol and you 00:15:25.39\00:15:27.49 start getting that fatty liver disease, the liver is really 00:15:27.52\00:15:31.56 churning out trying to get all the stuff cleaned out. 00:15:31.59\00:15:35.76 And that's why people start getting all kinds of other 00:15:35.80\00:15:38.23 subsequent problems with edema and everything else 00:15:38.27\00:15:40.34 because the liver is not working like it should so it's 00:15:40.37\00:15:43.74 compromised for sure. 00:15:43.77\00:15:45.57 Just like so many other organs are getting compromised 00:15:45.61\00:15:48.28 from that also. 00:15:48.31\00:15:49.64 That makes sense, our liver is an important part of detox 00:15:49.68\00:15:53.35 in terms of throwing a bunch of alcohol at it won't allow it 00:15:53.38\00:15:55.22 to perform up to its potential. 00:15:55.25\00:15:56.75 You also have the elimination process, urine, feces, 00:15:56.79\00:16:02.46 but you also go through the liver and the liver 00:16:02.49\00:16:07.13 is one of the key organs that it is supposed to detoxify 00:16:07.16\00:16:10.67 for you, unfortunately depending on your diet, you may be getting 00:16:10.70\00:16:14.34 stuff that is preventing the liver from doing what it's 00:16:14.37\00:16:16.67 supposed to do. 00:16:16.71\00:16:18.04 I'm thinking of a person who is drinking a lot of alcohol 00:16:18.07\00:16:20.58 well, they're going to get fatty liver disease 00:16:20.61\00:16:22.81 okay, where the liver isn't working like it should 00:16:22.84\00:16:25.01 because the alcohol has ruined it. 00:16:25.05\00:16:27.78 It's not just alcohol, there's something called 00:16:27.82\00:16:30.49 Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and factors other than 00:16:30.52\00:16:34.79 alcohol are contributing. Factors like dietary sugar, 00:16:34.82\00:16:38.59 blood sugar and byproducts of our gut microbiome and it's not 00:16:38.63\00:16:42.20 just the liver that slowly detoxes it, we have detox 00:16:42.23\00:16:45.67 function in every cell. 00:16:45.70\00:16:47.04 We have inbuilt systems for example our liver, 00:16:47.07\00:16:50.11 our lungs, our kidneys, their incredible, powerful 00:16:50.14\00:16:54.38 detoxification systems and if we have a healthy liver, 00:16:54.41\00:16:59.41 a healthy kidney, or renal system and lungs that starts 00:16:59.45\00:17:03.35 kicking in the process of getting rid of these toxicants. 00:17:03.39\00:17:07.29 I always like to focus on the bigger general health 00:17:07.32\00:17:12.96 threat than specific toxicants because in my experience 00:17:12.99\00:17:17.37 there's been a lot of erroneous messaging out there 00:17:17.40\00:17:20.94 and benefitting from the concept of detoxification with 00:17:20.97\00:17:24.31 certain vitamins and concoctions that have no scientific evidence 00:17:24.34\00:17:28.51 for them. But I like one of them though... Which one? 00:17:28.54\00:17:30.71 That black strip that they put on the bottom of the feet 00:17:30.75\00:17:33.42 and in the morning it's a white strip and in the morning it's 00:17:33.45\00:17:36.15 black and they...Laughter! It leaches lead from your toes. 00:17:36.18\00:17:41.62 Oh goodness. It's so funny. Right. It doesn't work like 00:17:41.66\00:17:45.29 that. The part of the sleep that actually detoxifies you is 00:17:45.33\00:17:49.83 not that strip, sleep detoxifies you. Right. 00:17:49.86\00:17:54.00 that's so funny, I love the Schozias chemistry and how they 00:17:54.04\00:17:58.54 bounce off of each other, they are a beautiful couple for sure. 00:17:58.57\00:18:01.94 I'm not sure what the white strip that turns black is 00:18:01.98\00:18:04.38 but I think it's valuable to increase our knowledge 00:18:04.41\00:18:07.35 of how detoxification works. 00:18:07.38\00:18:09.58 Detox is actually a complicated process and to fully address it 00:18:09.62\00:18:14.16 is beyond the scope of this program suffice it to say 00:18:14.19\00:18:17.36 and it takes a lot more than eliminate fast or foot strip 00:18:17.39\00:18:21.00 to do it right. 00:18:21.03\00:18:22.40 And again depending on what your disease state is 00:18:22.46\00:18:25.37 if you have some sort of advanced disease, 00:18:25.40\00:18:27.84 I will tell my patient, hey look you might get a strong bang 00:18:27.87\00:18:31.91 for your buck really diving deep into this. 00:18:31.94\00:18:34.31 Taking a deep dive might include getting tested, some symptoms 00:18:34.34\00:18:38.45 might hint it like a mold exposure, you can get tested 00:18:38.48\00:18:41.92 for that. There are tests to assess Glyphosate load, 00:18:41.95\00:18:44.79 heavy metals and so forth. 00:18:44.82\00:18:46.15 After you access what your toxic load is, then with the help 00:18:46.19\00:18:49.82 of a practitioner, you can do a focused detox protocol 00:18:49.86\00:18:52.76 that could include dietary intervention, supplements, 00:18:52.79\00:18:55.93 herbs, sweating, sleep, insuring good gut function, etc. 00:18:55.96\00:19:00.87 but don't forget the main topic, daily detox, and living 00:19:00.90\00:19:05.07 a healthy life on the daily is the best way to support it. 00:19:05.11\00:19:08.94 Most people wait until they are failing and then they do 00:19:08.98\00:19:12.05 this big event it would be a lot cheaper and simpler 00:19:12.08\00:19:16.28 and better for you if you make it a daily occurrence. 00:19:16.32\00:19:19.42 And that's why you eat a certain diet, the more red meats 00:19:19.45\00:19:23.73 you're eating, the more toxicityyou are getting. 00:19:23.76\00:19:26.36 Animals are toxic, okay, just like people are getting toxic, 00:19:26.39\00:19:30.50 animals are really toxic and that's one of the reasons 00:19:30.53\00:19:33.57 you want to stay away from animal products 00:19:33.60\00:19:35.24 because of that toxicity. 00:19:35.27\00:19:36.71 And the reason why we recommend a whole food plant-based diet 00:19:36.74\00:19:40.64 is as you go up on the food chain animals are 00:19:40.68\00:19:43.91 bio-concentrators so whatever environmental toxins exist 00:19:43.95\00:19:48.35 they get concentrated in the flesh of these animals and 00:19:48.38\00:19:51.29 so eating plants reduces that risk as well. 00:19:51.32\00:19:54.92 So all the healthy lifestyles help the high fiber diet 00:19:54.96\00:19:59.89 with all the right nutrients help neutralize toxins 00:19:59.93\00:20:03.16 and how the fiber helps extract the toxins from the body. 00:20:03.20\00:20:07.37 as the liver basically gets the toxins into the bile, 00:20:07.40\00:20:11.81 which then is bound by fiber and another key factors 00:20:11.84\00:20:17.68 in the digestion tract. So there's many things that 00:20:17.71\00:20:21.62 we can do to minimize our risk. 00:20:21.65\00:20:23.75 And even some of the toxins that get eliminated 00:20:23.79\00:20:27.22 through the gut, you know eating a whole food plant-based 00:20:27.26\00:20:29.72 diet with the fiber, the fiber grabs on to some of those 00:20:29.76\00:20:31.96 toxins and helps eliminate them so there's a lot of different 00:20:31.99\00:20:34.23 ways, nutrition, and water are probably the biggest factors. 00:20:34.26\00:20:38.50 Good water that doesn't have toxins in it is really 00:20:38.63\00:20:43.17 great, keeping yourself well hydrated a lot of the toxins 00:20:43.20\00:20:46.17 are eliminated through the kidney's through your 00:20:46.21\00:20:49.21 urinary system so you have several detoxification systems. 00:20:49.24\00:20:52.05 So, you have your sweating through your skin, 00:20:52.08\00:20:54.78 through your gut you have through your kidneys, 00:20:54.82\00:20:57.52 and so there are different ways, even your breathing can 00:20:57.55\00:21:01.52 breathe out the toxins through your lungs and so thinking about 00:21:01.56\00:21:04.13 what you can do through these different systems 00:21:04.16\00:21:06.03 to support them I think is important. 00:21:06.06\00:21:08.03 On top of that, sleep is very important when we think about 00:21:08.06\00:21:13.50 repairing and restoring and removing toxins too. 00:21:13.54\00:21:17.37 So, one of my colleagues uses this analogy 00:21:17.41\00:21:20.98 and I really like it, he calls it the Disney Land Analogy. 00:21:21.01\00:21:24.91 And so basically he talks about how Disney Land is a 00:21:24.95\00:21:29.58 very active place during the day, right? 00:21:29.62\00:21:31.02 Well, at night Disney Land is actually just as active 00:21:31.05\00:21:36.12 as it is during the day but there is just different things 00:21:36.16\00:21:39.66 going on. And it's similar to with our body so 00:21:39.69\00:21:42.93 during the day we're active doing things but at night 00:21:42.96\00:21:48.57 there's also a lot of activity going on so at Disney Land 00:21:48.60\00:21:51.77 of course, they are cleaning things, they're 00:21:51.81\00:21:54.61 repairing rides, etc. 00:21:54.64\00:21:56.24 While in our body is also that repair, that restoration, 00:21:56.28\00:22:01.35 and that cleaning is taking place and so if we're 00:22:01.38\00:22:04.35 sleeping properly, this will actually, help to reduce 00:22:04.39\00:22:07.96 inflammation and it will also help us to remove the toxins. 00:22:07.99\00:22:15.40 There's something that's called, the very interesting that 00:22:15.43\00:22:18.73 found in the recent years called the glymphatic system 00:22:18.77\00:22:22.40 and they used to think, oh yeah, there's probably 00:22:22.44\00:22:25.14 not really any lymphatic drainage or lymphatic system 00:22:25.17\00:22:29.98 in the brain but what they've actually found is that 00:22:30.01\00:22:32.61 there's brain cleaning that occurs while we're sleeping 00:22:32.65\00:22:36.89 and so normally there's what we call the blood-brain 00:22:36.92\00:22:41.06 barrier that remains intact so that the bad substances 00:22:41.09\00:22:45.46 can't get into you, the brain. But when we're sleeping 00:22:45.49\00:22:50.13 that barrier actually relaxes because the norepinephrine level 00:22:50.17\00:22:57.77 goes down the adrenalin levels go down and so then there's 00:22:57.81\00:23:01.18 fluid that actually goes throughout the brain 00:23:01.21\00:23:05.01 into the different spaces around the brain cells and it will 00:23:05.05\00:23:10.59 literally, wash our brain so that the toxins actually get 00:23:10.62\00:23:16.76 removed out of the brain and this is one of the really 00:23:16.79\00:23:20.53 important aspects of sleep. 00:23:20.56\00:23:21.93 If we don't have the regular, and especially that deeper sleep 00:23:21.96\00:23:25.43 where our brain can really relax then we're not 00:23:25.47\00:23:27.70 going to get brain-cleaning which will actually remove 00:23:27.74\00:23:30.47 toxins and prevent even chronic inflammatory conditions 00:23:30.51\00:23:34.38 like Alzheimer's and that sort of thing and just get us ready 00:23:34.41\00:23:37.98 for a new day with a clean slate. 00:23:38.01\00:23:41.55 Probably one of the reasons we detox when we sleep is 00:23:41.58\00:23:45.89 because we are fasting and not in digest mode so we can focus 00:23:45.92\00:23:49.52 on the other jobs. 00:23:49.56\00:23:50.89 It's really important that we do an intermittent fast 00:23:50.93\00:23:55.60 for ideally about five hours between meals. 00:23:55.63\00:23:59.30 And that gives the body a chance to actually get into a 00:23:59.33\00:24:08.51 detoxification mode. If we are constantly eating snacks 00:24:08.54\00:24:11.68 for every two to three hours, the body is never able 00:24:11.71\00:24:14.32 to properly detoxify. 00:24:14.35\00:24:16.18 So, yeah, the whole lifestyle makes a huge difference on that 00:24:16.22\00:24:20.42 and it's much better to know about this ahead of time 00:24:20.46\00:24:23.36 and recognize, why am I staying away from sugar and all this 00:24:23.39\00:24:26.36 stuff, well that's why, because the world is toxic 00:24:26.39\00:24:29.80 you want to get through this as healthy as you can. 00:24:29.83\00:24:33.07 I do, another thing that is helpful to experience 00:24:33.10\00:24:36.67 consistently is sweating. 00:24:37.17\00:24:38.51 I know we try to avoid it at all costs daily but 00:24:38.54\00:24:41.18 getting in a good sweat because of exercise or sauna 00:24:41.21\00:24:44.48 is really effective in reducing toxin burden. 00:24:44.51\00:24:47.02 Researchers have measured heavy metals in the sweat 00:24:47.05\00:24:50.09 participants sweating in the saunas. 00:24:50.12\00:24:51.85 We have to help the body appropriately detoxify 00:24:51.89\00:24:57.03 and that starts of course with the lifestyle. 00:24:57.06\00:24:59.53 When we exercise and we sweat that's one of the best forms 00:24:59.56\00:25:03.87 of detoxification. Your skin can actually detoxify 00:25:03.90\00:25:09.54 mercury, it can excrete mercury and heavy metals 00:25:09.57\00:25:12.24 through the sweat if we get a good sauna sweat or exercise 00:25:12.27\00:25:16.18 based sweat. the exercise with the sweating can be very 00:25:16.21\00:25:21.08 helpful in removing toxins. 00:25:21.15\00:25:23.25 Making sure that our diet is rich in the antioxidant 00:25:23.28\00:25:27.66 nutrients, the Vitamin C, the Vitamin E, the Zinc, etc. 00:25:27.69\00:25:32.03 Another critical factor in this process and then some... 00:25:32.06\00:25:35.90 many of my patients and I myself will take a little bit 00:25:35.93\00:25:39.90 of charcoal at bedtime away from any medicine or other 00:25:39.93\00:25:44.14 supplement ideally or food so that the body detoxifies 00:25:44.17\00:25:49.78 best at night and so it's safer to detoxify at night 00:25:49.81\00:25:55.58 and it's also more effective to detoxify at night. 00:25:55.62\00:25:59.22 And so using a little bit of charcoal or other potential 00:25:59.25\00:26:03.39 binders at bedtime can be one of the helpful ways 00:26:03.43\00:26:09.46 to help eliminate these toxins from the body. 00:26:09.50\00:26:12.67 Yes, our body is constantly detoxing, our body, 00:26:12.70\00:26:15.87 the way God created us is constantly trying to heal 00:26:15.90\00:26:19.17 so it always is trying to detox anything that is 00:26:19.21\00:26:23.04 problematic or causing issues in our body, 00:26:23.08\00:26:25.58 it's just are we giving it the tools to be able to do so 00:26:25.61\00:26:28.82 on a regular basis? So that's where I say eat your 00:26:28.85\00:26:31.29 Cruciferous vegetables every day and make sure you're 00:26:31.32\00:26:33.56 drinking enough water every day and that will help to keep 00:26:33.59\00:26:37.03 your body healthy and well and detoxifying 24/7. 00:26:37.06\00:26:40.93 Boy, how do we summarize our topic today? 00:26:40.96\00:26:44.47 There's just a lot to consider and it's great that for 00:26:44.50\00:26:47.77 most of our lives our body performs this amazing job 00:26:47.80\00:26:51.21 of detoxification for us without us even having 00:26:51.24\00:26:54.64 to think about it. It's only because our society has changed 00:26:54.68\00:26:57.71 and we are bombarded today with this burden of 00:26:57.75\00:27:01.02 environmental toxicants and see our bodies caving 00:27:01.05\00:27:04.49 under the strain and we would do well to provide some 00:27:04.52\00:27:07.76 extra support to this amazing redemptive function 00:27:07.79\00:27:11.99 that we call detox. 00:27:12.03\00:27:13.63 We were made not to be a toxic dump, we were made for health. 00:27:13.70\00:27:18.07
