really criticize
who I was or what I did

and so I
developed a false belief

that I wasn't
really able to contribute

much at all to society

very low self esteem

and, so that was a very
deep wound within my heart

and as every child

we tend to use kind of
protective measures to try

and protect that wound,
so for me it was academia.

I though that if I would strive
to do the best that I could do

that somehow that I would feel
valuable in the eyes of others,

and so subconsciously
that's-- that's what happened

and I ended up

moving into the
field of medicine

and whilst in there

and working
very, very long hours,

being surrounded
by immense suffering

unfortunately being in contact

with very high,
highly strung teachers

that had very high
expectations and demands

on their junior doctors.

I became mentally exhausted

and, so after
about a year of that

I developed very,
very severe depression

and, so through that depression

not being able to
concentrate on my work

and not being able to focus

remember things correctly

I had to basically stop
working and stop everything

with bread and water by God

all along the way.

It was in that spiritual
cave that God spoke to my heart

and He was able to share with me

that it's not about what
I do that gives me value.

originally started singing?

My parents actually left church
when I was three years old,

so I knew there was a God,

but I didn't
know a personal God,

and so at the age of 16,

I was cast as
one of the disciples

in a musical called "Godspell."

And as I was reading the script

and observing the
portrayal of Christ's character

through the musical.

I suddenly realized that
this was more than a good man

with great compassion.
