Magnify the Lord with me 00:00:01.36\00:00:04.90 Magnify the Lord 00:00:04.93\00:00:08.74 Jesus alone He is worthy 00:00:08.77\00:00:11.71 Magnify Him 00:00:11.74\00:00:15.84 Hello, and welcome to Magnify Him. 00:00:15.88\00:00:18.15 My name is Yvonne Lewis. 00:00:18.18\00:00:20.12 Someone once said that music like a magic key 00:00:20.15\00:00:23.08 that opens the most tightly closed heart. 00:00:23.12\00:00:26.22 We pray tonight that your heart 00:00:26.25\00:00:28.22 will be opened by the Holy Spirit, 00:00:28.26\00:00:30.63 moving through the music, to bless you. 00:00:30.66\00:00:34.03 Stay tuned and be blessed. 00:00:34.06\00:00:37.47 Magnify the Lord with me 00:00:37.50\00:00:40.57 Magnify Him 00:00:40.60\00:00:45.87 Professor Shelton Kilby is here with us on Magnify Him. 00:00:45.91\00:00:49.44 Welcome, professor. Thank you. 00:00:49.48\00:00:51.05 Thank you for inviting me. 00:00:51.08\00:00:52.41 And you are my great friend so I may call you Shelton. 00:00:52.45\00:00:54.32 Please call me Shelton. Let me adjust. 00:00:54.35\00:00:57.42 You know, your playing just reflects so much power 00:00:57.45\00:01:03.69 and passion and we know that it's a gift from God. 00:01:03.73\00:01:07.30 When did you know that you could play? 00:01:07.33\00:01:10.10 When I was five years old, I was tinkering around, 00:01:10.13\00:01:12.17 playing by ear. 00:01:12.20\00:01:13.60 My parents tell me I was about seven years old 00:01:13.64\00:01:15.77 when I really got serious about it 00:01:15.80\00:01:17.64 and realized that I could play the piano. 00:01:17.67\00:01:19.61 How many hours a day did you practice? 00:01:19.64\00:01:22.44 They were quite an hour before going to school 00:01:22.48\00:01:25.18 and an hour after coming home... 00:01:25.21\00:01:27.45 And all there. ...and then you get going. 00:01:27.48\00:01:28.98 So your parents said an hour before school. 00:01:29.02\00:01:31.52 Before school. And an hour after? 00:01:31.55\00:01:33.15 Yes. 00:01:33.19\00:01:34.52 And then you could go out and play. 00:01:34.56\00:01:35.89 No, that's after the homework. 00:01:35.92\00:01:37.26 Oh. You see, parents? 00:01:37.29\00:01:40.50 They were pretty strict. 00:01:40.53\00:01:42.26 That's incredible. And I glad that they were. 00:01:42.30\00:01:43.63 I didn't like it when they did it. 00:01:43.67\00:01:45.00 Yes, yes. But it surely paid off. 00:01:45.03\00:01:47.47 It has, it has. 00:01:47.50\00:01:48.87 You have had quite a journey. 00:01:48.90\00:01:50.97 You have been a pastor, a professor, 00:01:51.01\00:01:55.71 of course an artist. 00:01:55.74\00:01:57.81 How do you combine everything? 00:01:57.85\00:02:00.62 How do you like navigate through all of these gifts 00:02:00.65\00:02:05.55 'cause God has given you so many gifts. 00:02:05.59\00:02:07.96 You know, institutionally it can be kind of hard 00:02:07.99\00:02:12.33 because you know, if you are a pastor 00:02:12.36\00:02:14.73 then surely you are not playing the piano. 00:02:14.76\00:02:16.97 You are playing the piano, surely you are not a pastor. 00:02:17.00\00:02:19.53 And so I had to decide if I was pastoring 00:02:19.57\00:02:23.10 then a part of my daily routine before study 00:02:23.14\00:02:26.07 was to get up in the morning and practice. 00:02:26.11\00:02:28.91 Otherwise I would have lost it, 00:02:28.94\00:02:30.98 and I just always felt that God, 00:02:31.01\00:02:33.28 if He gave me that He, you know, 00:02:33.31\00:02:35.75 and trusted me to be the manager of those gifts, 00:02:35.78\00:02:39.02 then it was up to me to do that. 00:02:39.05\00:02:40.92 That's such a good point you know, 00:02:40.96\00:02:42.29 because God has entrusted you with these gifts 00:02:42.32\00:02:47.03 and that's something that we all need to remember 00:02:47.06\00:02:49.96 that when God gives us a gift 00:02:50.00\00:02:52.47 we have to be good stewards of that gift. 00:02:52.50\00:02:54.57 What's your ministry now? 00:02:54.60\00:02:56.71 I have a new ministry called Shelton Kilby Beyond Borders. 00:02:56.74\00:03:00.54 Long story short I was invited for lecture 00:03:00.58\00:03:02.51 at the H.M.S. Richards Divinity School 00:03:02.54\00:03:05.58 in La Sierra, California. 00:03:05.61\00:03:07.55 And this ministry based on the prayer of J Bass. 00:03:07.58\00:03:13.52 I heard myself play a few years ago, 00:03:13.56\00:03:16.39 and was totally disgusted 00:03:16.42\00:03:17.76 because it's playing the same way 00:03:17.79\00:03:19.13 I played 15 years before that. 00:03:19.16\00:03:20.86 I ask the Lord for new ministry and He imprest me to tell 00:03:20.90\00:03:25.13 stories from the piano. 00:03:25.17\00:03:28.80 So going beyond borders is going beyond the status quo. 00:03:28.84\00:03:33.17 It's not important about the style 00:03:33.21\00:03:35.08 and how a person feels, 00:03:35.11\00:03:36.88 it's important to tell the story of Jesus 00:03:36.91\00:03:39.71 and so the music and the style 00:03:39.75\00:03:41.35 become secondary to telling the story of Jesus Christ. 00:03:41.38\00:03:45.52 And you are telling the story through music. 00:03:45.55\00:03:47.46 Through music, yes. Praise God. 00:03:47.49\00:03:49.89 What an amazing thing. And it's exciting. 00:03:49.92\00:03:52.59 And so what's the first song 00:03:52.63\00:03:54.60 that you are going to play for us. 00:03:54.63\00:03:56.23 I'm going to play The Church Has One Foundation. 00:03:56.26\00:03:59.00 The Church Has One Foundation, 00:03:59.03\00:04:00.37 that's one of my favorite hymns. 00:04:00.40\00:04:02.40 Listen and be blessed by Professor Shelton Kilby. 00:04:02.44\00:04:05.34 A Negro spiritual entitled Wade In The Water. 00:10:35.43\00:10:40.30 Magnify the Lord with me 00:14:02.40\00:14:05.47 Magnify Him 00:14:05.51\00:14:11.01 It's a great honor to welcome Belinda Mulzac to Magnify Him. 00:14:11.05\00:14:15.12 Welcome, Belinda. 00:14:15.15\00:14:16.48 Thank you, glad to be here. 00:14:16.52\00:14:19.15 It is great to have you here 00:14:19.19\00:14:20.56 and it's gonna be even greater to hear you. 00:14:20.59\00:14:22.79 You have such a wonderful instrument. 00:14:22.82\00:14:25.83 How long have you been singing? 00:14:25.86\00:14:27.56 Oh, practically all my life. 00:14:27.60\00:14:29.53 Since eight years old. Really? 00:14:29.56\00:14:31.70 Do you come from a musical family? 00:14:31.73\00:14:33.07 I do. 00:14:33.10\00:14:34.44 I am from Macon, Georgia, 00:14:34.47\00:14:35.87 and my father was a jazz pianist 00:14:35.90\00:14:39.34 and my mother was a singer as well 00:14:39.37\00:14:41.91 before they joined the church, of course. 00:14:41.94\00:14:44.58 And I've been listening to music 00:14:44.61\00:14:46.65 all my life at home and... 00:14:46.68\00:14:48.18 So music is a part of you. It is, it is. 00:14:48.22\00:14:50.49 Do you have a family, children and all of that? 00:14:50.52\00:14:53.19 Yes, I have two daughters. 00:14:53.22\00:14:54.66 One Carla and one Brianda, who's older. 00:14:54.69\00:14:58.43 You have an interesting journey. 00:14:58.46\00:15:00.43 Tell us a little bit about your testimony. 00:15:00.46\00:15:05.07 I've had a long journey but I'll begin telling you 00:15:05.10\00:15:08.37 about my ministry within that journey. 00:15:08.40\00:15:12.57 My ministry, I feel is singing as well as other things 00:15:12.61\00:15:17.15 that I love to do. 00:15:17.18\00:15:18.51 Such as? 00:15:18.55\00:15:19.88 Oh, I love decorating, I love to exercise. 00:15:19.91\00:15:23.69 Okay, wait. Let's stop, let's stop. 00:15:23.72\00:15:25.42 Decorating like house decorating? 00:15:25.45\00:15:26.86 Oh, yes. 00:15:26.89\00:15:28.22 Is that like a passion of yours? 00:15:28.26\00:15:30.09 It is, it is. 00:15:30.13\00:15:31.49 So you have a flair for the colorful 00:15:31.53\00:15:35.26 and putting it all together in the home? 00:15:35.30\00:15:37.77 Exactly. Okay. 00:15:37.80\00:15:39.13 I love doing that. 00:15:39.17\00:15:40.50 So that's one of the things I like to do. 00:15:40.54\00:15:42.47 And I am a health educator so I love exercising. 00:15:42.50\00:15:47.38 I love trying to eat right, don't always get it right but 00:15:47.41\00:15:51.68 I love that as well. 00:15:51.71\00:15:53.05 You love to exercise? 00:15:53.08\00:15:54.42 I do. Oh, okay. 00:15:54.45\00:15:55.78 So I cannot say that I loved excer... 00:15:55.82\00:15:58.95 I do exercise, but I can't say I love it. 00:15:58.99\00:16:01.79 What do you love about it? 00:16:01.82\00:16:04.09 It just gives a natural high, 00:16:04.13\00:16:06.46 the natural release of endorphins 00:16:06.49\00:16:08.73 after a run or jog and it's just something 00:16:08.76\00:16:12.70 you can't compare to that. 00:16:12.73\00:16:14.24 That's true. 00:16:14.27\00:16:15.60 Now I have to say, this morning 00:16:15.64\00:16:17.24 when I was getting ready to come here, 00:16:17.27\00:16:19.24 I had to do my little work 00:16:19.27\00:16:21.28 and I do this 15 minute thing on a rebounder 00:16:21.31\00:16:23.88 and actually I did not feel like doing it today 00:16:23.91\00:16:26.88 but after I got on it in I just felt better. 00:16:26.92\00:16:29.92 Exactly. Isn't that right? 00:16:29.95\00:16:31.29 Exactly. 00:16:31.32\00:16:32.65 So you got decorating, you got exercise. 00:16:32.69\00:16:35.39 And do you incorporate these things into your ministry? 00:16:35.42\00:16:39.59 Not really. Not for... 00:16:39.63\00:16:40.96 So these are just your passions. 00:16:41.00\00:16:42.33 These are just things that I like to do on the side. 00:16:42.36\00:16:44.67 What about your family life? 00:16:44.70\00:16:46.33 Tell us a little bit about that. 00:16:46.37\00:16:48.37 Well, my older daughter 00:16:48.40\00:16:49.90 graduated form Oakwood last year, 00:16:49.94\00:16:52.17 she's a nurse. 00:16:52.21\00:16:53.88 And my younger daughter 00:16:53.91\00:16:55.24 just graduated from high school, Andrews Academy, 00:16:55.28\00:16:58.41 so she is attending Andrews this year as a freshman. 00:16:58.45\00:17:01.45 Nice. 00:17:01.48\00:17:02.85 So I'm approaching empty nests. 00:17:02.88\00:17:05.69 Oh, that's got to be a little bit weird, right? 00:17:05.72\00:17:08.92 Yes. That's kind of be boring. 00:17:08.96\00:17:10.43 He's kind of be counted, thats felt. 00:17:10.46\00:17:12.73 And you lost your husband a few years ago. 00:17:12.76\00:17:15.20 Yes. 00:17:15.23\00:17:16.56 Tell us a little bit about that part of your journey if would. 00:17:16.60\00:17:17.93 Yes. 00:17:17.97\00:17:19.30 I lost my husband five years ago 00:17:19.33\00:17:21.34 on the 23rd of July and it's so strange 00:17:21.37\00:17:26.54 because we are talking about ministry. 00:17:26.57\00:17:29.14 My whole married life was a ministry with his. 00:17:29.18\00:17:33.28 How so? Well, we traveled together. 00:17:33.31\00:17:36.55 Was he a minister as well? Was he a minister or pastor? 00:17:36.58\00:17:39.42 Yes, he was a pastor and he was also a professor. 00:17:39.45\00:17:43.59 Oh, a professor? What did he teach? 00:17:43.63\00:17:45.86 He was professor of Old Testament Theology. 00:17:45.89\00:17:49.20 Wow. 00:17:49.23\00:17:50.57 So we had just done a missionary stance 00:17:50.60\00:17:54.44 in the Philippines 00:17:54.47\00:17:56.14 where he was a Chair of the department 00:17:56.17\00:17:58.97 and we would sing and I would sing 00:17:59.01\00:18:01.61 and he would preach and we would go various places 00:18:01.64\00:18:04.48 around the world so that's past now. 00:18:04.51\00:18:09.42 So I would say that my ministry now is, 00:18:09.45\00:18:13.02 you know, on my own and... 00:18:13.05\00:18:15.52 Was it difficult? 00:18:15.56\00:18:16.89 I know it was difficult losing. 00:18:16.93\00:18:18.36 Was it difficult making the transition from a couple 00:18:18.39\00:18:22.03 in ministry to you as an individual in ministry. 00:18:22.06\00:18:25.33 Oh, absolutely. It's very difficult. 00:18:25.37\00:18:28.00 And of course, I went through my period of depression 00:18:28.04\00:18:31.87 and, you know, having to take time out 00:18:31.91\00:18:34.21 and I'm just really now getting back to the point 00:18:34.24\00:18:36.91 where I'm singing on a regular basis. 00:18:36.95\00:18:40.65 So it's been difficult. Yes. 00:18:40.68\00:18:43.05 I would imagine so, but one of the songs 00:18:43.08\00:18:46.59 that you are gonna sing for us is 00:18:46.62\00:18:48.59 'Tis Is So Sweet To Trust In Jesus 00:18:48.62\00:18:51.06 and I kind of think you can relate to that. 00:18:51.09\00:18:53.76 I can totally relate. 00:18:53.80\00:18:55.26 Tell us how the Lord Jesus has helped you through? 00:18:55.30\00:18:58.10 I tell you, Yvonne, the power of the Holy Spirit 00:18:58.13\00:19:00.54 leads and guides me in ways 00:19:00.57\00:19:03.10 that I don't even realize, okay. 00:19:03.14\00:19:05.97 In those dark moments, when you don't know 00:19:06.01\00:19:08.58 what's going on and every Christian 00:19:08.61\00:19:10.15 goes through that experience and it's very difficult. 00:19:10.18\00:19:13.78 But Jesus says that He will never leave us or forsake us, 00:19:13.82\00:19:17.19 that's why 'tis so sweet, 'tis so precious to me. 00:19:17.22\00:19:20.39 He is there, He is with me, even when I don't realize it. 00:19:20.42\00:19:25.46 And that is the key to know that no matter 00:19:25.49\00:19:29.40 what you are going through, Jesus is there for you. 00:19:29.43\00:19:33.64 So listen as Belinda sings 00:19:33.67\00:19:35.20 and blesses us with her ministry. 00:19:35.24\00:19:38.47 God is so there for us. 00:19:38.51\00:19:40.74 Hallelujah, home at last 00:19:43.35\00:19:46.98 The redeemed are home at last! 00:19:47.02\00:19:50.69 All heaven is filled with happiness 00:19:50.72\00:19:55.29 For the age of sin is past 00:19:55.32\00:20:00.26 See the gates as they open wide 00:20:00.30\00:20:04.60 See the saints as they walk inside 00:20:04.63\00:20:07.87 Singing, hallelujah home at last 00:20:07.90\00:20:12.11 The redeemed are home at last!
