many years of pastoring

and 28 years of marriage,
25 years of pastoral ministry,

I've learned one constant truth.

Many are the
afflictions of the righteous.

You know, the Christian's life

is often beset by
trials and tribulations

and sometimes we come to church

and we try to hide
those behind the canopy

of praise God it's
a happy Sabbath or--

You know, God is
good all the time.

We get into these clichés

but deep within
we're going through

a valley of difficulties.

And so what I did
is I began to look

through the
Bible and began to see

what the purpose
of those trials are.

You know, the Bible
tells us first of all,

don't think it's
strange concerning

the fiery trials
that will try you

as though some
strange thing happened to you.

Yes.

And then you know, the
Bible also says in Revelation,

we're gold tried in the fire.

And so-- then
the Bible talks about

the fiery darts
of the wicked one.

And truly we can
go through a week

and feel those fiery darts.

We can go through
and go to the valley

of the fiery trials.

And I always
wondered, "Why would God allow

His children to
go through that?"

And then I came to
the conclusion that

God does not allow anything

that's not valuable
to go through the fire.

And he doesn't say,
"If you go through the fire

but when-- "

That's right.

And so we know that He's with us

when we go through the fire.

pass through the waters,

we have to face that in reality

I found in trials,

that through suffering,

not want to repeat it,

If you press into Him,

at the trial of Job

But in every one of our lives,
we have a little Job moment.
