00:02:58.14\00:02:59.67 All right. 00:02:59.71\00:03:01.04 So I'm 19 years old as you said before, 00:03:01.08\00:03:03.14 I'm Adventist, that was my whole life. 00:03:03.18\00:03:05.48 Played the piano. 00:03:05.51\00:03:06.85 I've played the piano since five, 00:03:06.88\00:03:08.22 I stopped around sixth, seventh grade, 00:03:08.25\00:03:09.88 but then came back to around eighth grade. 00:03:09.92\00:03:12.22 Um, I work out, I do mostly calisthenics, 00:03:12.25\00:03:14.62 which is a bodyweight workout. 00:03:14.66\00:03:16.36 I'm in school right now a dual enrollment. 00:03:16.39\00:03:18.03 So I did high school and college. 00:03:18.06\00:03:20.00 I'm doing college now the transfer next year, 00:03:20.03\00:03:22.60 Lord willing, that's really about sets me up. 00:03:22.63\00:03:26.00 All right. 00:03:26.03\00:03:27.54 Sweet and simple. 00:03:27.57\00:03:29.07 Your goal is to attend what university? 00:03:29.10\00:03:31.54 Oakwood University, Lord willing next year. 00:03:31.57\00:03:33.94 Well, you're going to be studying music, 00:03:33.98\00:03:35.41 you have a good foundation at Oakwood. 00:03:35.44\00:03:37.25 And I know you'll be right there playing 00:03:37.28\00:03:39.45 with all the great musicians. 00:03:39.48\00:03:41.18 So let's talk about your... 00:03:41.22\00:03:43.79 You're so convicted, you know, you say yes. 00:03:43.82\00:03:46.86 I mean, I asked you to play for me 00:03:46.89\00:03:49.82 and stay a little bit longer. 00:03:49.86\00:03:51.36 But you had two other programs to play for at your church, 00:03:51.39\00:03:54.70 and you felt so bad 00:03:54.73\00:03:56.06 that you couldn't stay, you know. 00:03:56.10\00:03:57.57 Why are you so convicted in serving Jesus Christ? 00:03:57.60\00:04:01.50 Well, I guess it starts as a kid, 00:04:01.54\00:04:03.71 you know, you raised into the church. 00:04:03.74\00:04:05.67 And you know, your parents give you opening Sabbath 00:04:05.71\00:04:08.78 and closing Sabbath and it becomes natural for you. 00:04:08.81\00:04:12.81 But at a time, you have to choose 00:04:12.85\00:04:14.85 what you want to do it. 00:04:14.88\00:04:16.22 And you know, I guess I chose to do it. 00:04:16.25\00:04:18.85 And the Lord blessed me while doing it. 00:04:18.89\00:04:21.96 And because He's blessed me, it makes me want to do it more. 00:04:21.99\00:04:24.79 And so I took out, I took my piano skill, 00:04:24.83\00:04:27.66 and I decided, no, I can use this to play for Him, 00:04:27.70\00:04:31.37 because this is the best I got. 00:04:31.40\00:04:32.93 So I'm going to give it all to Him right 00:04:32.97\00:04:34.60 with the guy with the one talent. 00:04:34.64\00:04:35.97 This is my one talent and I'm using this talent. 00:04:36.00\00:04:38.11 And so, I choose God because, you know, 00:04:38.14\00:04:40.98 He's blessed me so much. 00:04:41.01\00:04:42.34 And He continues to bless me 00:04:42.38\00:04:43.71 even when I slip and fall sometimes, 00:04:43.75\00:04:45.28 He still picks me back up and said, hey, you know, 00:04:45.31\00:04:47.38 keep going and you're doing all right. 00:04:47.42\00:04:48.75 Just keep, keep moving forward. 00:04:48.78\00:04:50.69 And God has blessed you. 00:04:50.72\00:04:52.52 Well, why is it today in our society, 00:04:52.55\00:04:55.69 young people, we look at our churches. 00:04:55.72\00:04:57.93 I look at City Temple. 00:04:57.96\00:04:59.29 I don't know about Living Waters, 00:04:59.33\00:05:01.03 but where are all the young people? 00:05:01.06\00:05:03.97 Right now as this because it's big, 00:05:04.00\00:05:05.33 that's a big topic. 00:05:05.37\00:05:06.70 Right now, honestly, I think it's because, 00:05:06.74\00:05:10.07 you know, people are in the church 00:05:10.11\00:05:11.67 are still kind of, like, 00:05:11.71\00:05:13.91 stuck to like some of the old ways. 00:05:13.94\00:05:16.34 And, you know, 00:05:16.38\00:05:17.71 kids are not gonna want to just, 00:05:17.75\00:05:19.55 they want to kind of be free and flexible a lot of the time. 00:05:19.58\00:05:23.39 And so because they can, they can't volunteer 00:05:23.42\00:05:28.62 or do what they want to do in the church, like, 00:05:28.66\00:05:31.09 some kids want to do special music. 00:05:31.13\00:05:32.46 But all people are saying, well, you can't do that, 00:05:32.49\00:05:34.33 we have to do this. 00:05:34.36\00:05:35.70 And they want to help in the church. 00:05:35.73\00:05:37.07 But sometimes a lot of people in churches 00:05:37.10\00:05:38.70 won't let them do it because they're young, 00:05:38.73\00:05:40.17 because they're not ready, that they're saying they just, 00:05:40.20\00:05:42.64 they just wanting to leave, 00:05:42.67\00:05:44.01 because they're not being able to, you know, 00:05:44.04\00:05:45.74 kind of contribute to the church. 00:05:45.77\00:05:47.58 So they get discouraged? 00:05:47.61\00:05:48.94 Yes, I think that's one of the big reasons 00:05:48.98\00:05:50.81 as to why they're leaving. 00:05:50.85\00:05:52.48 I remember when I first was asked 00:05:52.51\00:05:54.05 to be the hospitality on the committee. 00:05:54.08\00:05:58.52 And I said, well, what's involved, 00:05:58.55\00:05:59.89 and I was like, 15, 16, well, 00:05:59.92\00:06:01.89 you have to stand up and welcome everyone. 00:06:01.92\00:06:04.06 And I'm like, I won't do that. 00:06:04.09\00:06:06.09 And I remember that my grandmother said, 00:06:06.13\00:06:09.80 you need to learn how to do this. 00:06:09.83\00:06:11.43 Because these skills you learn in the church 00:06:11.47\00:06:14.37 will help you in life. 00:06:14.40\00:06:16.40 Do you agree that the skills we learn in church, 00:06:16.44\00:06:19.11 how I know it's helped me in my business? 00:06:19.14\00:06:21.41 And where I, the Lord has taken me? 00:06:21.44\00:06:24.01 Do you feel that the church 00:06:24.05\00:06:25.38 is the foundation to learn skills, 00:06:25.41\00:06:27.55 personally and professionally? 00:06:27.58\00:06:29.15 Definitely, even the small stuff 00:06:29.18\00:06:31.15 like I used to help with tithe and offering, 00:06:31.19\00:06:33.49 I'd be one of the, one of the offering barriers 00:06:33.52\00:06:35.76 that pass out, pass the plate down. 00:06:35.79\00:06:38.13 And at first it's kind of like nerve-racking, 00:06:38.16\00:06:40.50 because you have to stand up and walk forward 00:06:40.53\00:06:42.26 and then walk back and hand it 00:06:42.30\00:06:43.63 and wait for the person to come down. 00:06:43.67\00:06:45.00 But you know, when you get older and older, 00:06:45.03\00:06:46.84 it gets easier, 00:06:46.87\00:06:48.20 because you begin to know the people 00:06:48.24\00:06:49.57 and talking to them and passing it down 00:06:49.60\00:06:51.64 is just, this is small thought, is easy and easy. 00:06:51.67\00:06:54.34 And the bigger plans you do in the church, 00:06:54.38\00:06:56.54 you know, the easier it gets. 00:06:56.58\00:06:57.91 And you know, I want to say that 00:06:57.95\00:06:59.98 if you are doing these roles in the church, 00:07:00.02\00:07:03.95 you get to know the members in the church, 00:07:03.99\00:07:06.32 they see you involve, participating. 00:07:06.35\00:07:09.02 And you know, 00:07:09.06\00:07:10.39 you guys have some of the best fellowship dinners, 00:07:10.43\00:07:13.09 you know, I mean, 00:07:13.13\00:07:14.56 do you enjoy staying after church 00:07:14.60\00:07:16.26 and having those great Sabbath dinners? 00:07:16.30\00:07:17.87 I love it. 00:07:17.90\00:07:19.23 You know, because it opens the door to get to know people. 00:07:19.27\00:07:21.80 And so you guys are still having those. 00:07:21.84\00:07:24.64 I know I've got to come over and visit. 00:07:24.67\00:07:26.17 It's been a while. 00:07:26.21\00:07:27.64 But I'm so busy in my own church. 00:07:27.68\00:07:29.01 That's another thing. 00:07:29.04\00:07:30.38 You get so busy, 00:07:30.41\00:07:32.01 and you can't visit like you know would like 00:07:32.05\00:07:34.72 to but you have to give back in your own church. 00:07:34.75\00:07:38.69 Royce, let me ask you. 00:07:38.72\00:07:41.02 Wellness, 00:07:41.06\00:07:42.39 you said that you work out your exercise. 00:07:42.42\00:07:44.66 But what about the wellness of your mind? 00:07:44.69\00:07:47.00 Dealing with stress? 00:07:47.03\00:07:48.36 How does... 00:07:48.40\00:07:49.73 How do you as a young person deal with just 00:07:49.76\00:07:51.63 because we see stress in our young people, 00:07:51.67\00:07:54.14 they're committing suicide, they are isolating themselves, 00:07:54.17\00:07:58.01 turning to different vices. 00:07:58.04\00:07:59.84 What are you doing to maintain your wellness balance? 00:07:59.87\00:08:04.98 So when I'm having a problem 00:08:05.01\00:08:07.15 and I'm having like a deep a deep, 00:08:07.18\00:08:09.65 stressful moment, actually I work out, 00:08:09.68\00:08:12.25 I'll look and hit the heavy bag. 00:08:12.29\00:08:14.49 You know, do some explosive workouts. 00:08:14.52\00:08:16.32 But if it's, if it's like a little too, 00:08:16.36\00:08:18.73 like I really can't do that I really want to do anything. 00:08:18.76\00:08:21.46 I'll just play some hymns. 00:08:21.50\00:08:23.43 Know, it's so sweet to trust in Jesus. 00:08:23.47\00:08:25.33 That's one of my favorite hymns just to play. 00:08:25.37\00:08:27.40 And just fingering it out, playing it slow, 00:08:27.44\00:08:30.84 listening to the word, playing the words, 00:08:30.87\00:08:32.64 saying the words while you play it, 00:08:32.67\00:08:34.08 that really helps me. 00:08:34.11\00:08:35.48 You know, calm, calm down, 00:08:35.51\00:08:37.38 and then go back to the planning. 00:08:37.41\00:08:38.88 It is so sweet to trust in Jesus, 00:08:38.91\00:08:41.62 just to take Him at His Word. 00:08:41.65\00:08:44.25 How does prayer work in your wellness balance? 00:08:44.29\00:08:48.06 So every morning, I wake up, and I'll reassess Christ. 00:08:48.09\00:08:52.96 And I'll say, I'll say a small prayer 00:08:52.99\00:08:55.33 or simple, simple prayer. 00:08:55.36\00:08:56.70 Just be with my day, 00:08:56.73\00:08:58.60 and have me do what You would have me to do. 00:08:58.63\00:09:01.44 And that will be my prayer for the morning. 00:09:01.47\00:09:04.71 I will say, even if one to two small prayers a day, 00:09:04.74\00:09:10.58 just something because prayer is very important 00:09:10.61\00:09:12.21 to keep connected. 00:09:12.25\00:09:13.58 So at least one or two small prayers a day 00:09:13.62\00:09:14.95 because God knows where you are, 00:09:14.98\00:09:16.32 you know, He knows everyone's strengths and weaknesses. 00:09:16.35\00:09:19.19 Or if you can at least say does God help me 00:09:19.22\00:09:21.06 or thank You God for today, or there's something, 00:09:21.09\00:09:24.03 something small, that that'd be sufficient. 00:09:24.06\00:09:27.76 You know, to be so young, and the hymns, 00:09:27.80\00:09:31.77 the hymns are so beautiful. 00:09:31.80\00:09:33.74 And sometimes we get away from hymns. 00:09:33.77\00:09:35.50 And we even complain that you know, 00:09:35.54\00:09:37.94 we're doing the same hymns over and over again, 00:09:37.97\00:09:40.88 or the same scriptures because you'll hear 00:09:40.91\00:09:43.04 the 23rd Psalms or you'll hear Hebrews 11 or Genesis 1:1, 00:09:43.08\00:09:48.75 but it's important for us to stay connected to the Lord. 00:09:48.78\00:09:52.72 And I think it doesn't take a lot 00:09:52.75\00:09:55.36 to just spend time with God. 00:09:55.39\00:09:58.03 You know, why do you think is, you know, because of... 00:09:58.06\00:10:01.60 Is it because of social media, 00:10:01.63\00:10:03.00 is because everybody's on this fast pace, 00:10:03.03\00:10:06.00 you know, and not just young people, 00:10:06.03\00:10:07.70 us as adults also, older adults, 00:10:07.74\00:10:11.04 that we don't stop to spend time with God. 00:10:11.07\00:10:14.34 What do you think? 00:10:14.38\00:10:15.71 Is it because of this fast paced social media, 00:10:15.74\00:10:19.15 or at work or demands of the job, 00:10:19.18\00:10:21.95 or is all of it? 00:10:21.98\00:10:23.85 I think is most of the person's all about all excuses, 00:10:23.89\00:10:26.55 you know, I wake up, or I'm too tired to. 00:10:26.59\00:10:29.99 I had to... I had to do this, this and that. 00:10:30.03\00:10:31.66 So I have to, you know, go eat, 00:10:31.69\00:10:33.46 I have to go change and to do all these, 00:10:33.50\00:10:34.83 they, they come with every excuse in the book, 00:10:34.86\00:10:37.50 so they don't have to do it. 00:10:37.53\00:10:38.87 And then when night comes, and they have night worships, 00:10:38.90\00:10:42.60 they'll be like, Oh, I'm too tired, 00:10:42.64\00:10:44.07 had a long day, 00:10:44.11\00:10:45.44 had to get up early in the morning. 00:10:45.47\00:10:46.81 And the cycle back go round and round. 00:10:46.84\00:10:48.18 I think, just the person themselves 00:10:48.21\00:10:50.88 and their excuses is the main reason 00:10:50.91\00:10:52.65 why people still don't. 00:10:52.68\00:10:54.02 So people get lazy, but they can watch 00:10:54.05\00:10:56.85 all the sports on television, 00:10:56.89\00:10:59.59 stay awake, dozing off, I'm paying for that, 00:10:59.62\00:11:01.72 I'm paying for that cable, you know, but no time with God. 00:11:01.76\00:11:05.73 I think God gets sad 00:11:05.76\00:11:07.13 when we don't spend time with Him. 00:11:07.16\00:11:09.10 Because He wants that communion with us. 00:11:09.13\00:11:11.73 And we need to be convicted like 00:11:11.77\00:11:13.47 you're convicted by working out, 00:11:13.50\00:11:15.40 when they be convicted about studying the Word of God, 00:11:15.44\00:11:18.11 convicted, we have to be passionate 00:11:18.14\00:11:20.71 about God and having a relationship with God. 00:11:20.74\00:11:24.21 I think it's important that not just going to church, 00:11:24.25\00:11:28.18 but having relationship. 00:11:28.22\00:11:29.55 You and I have a relationship, we have a bond, 00:11:29.58\00:11:32.29 because we know I've known you since before you were born. 00:11:32.32\00:11:36.52 And when I see you, 00:11:36.56\00:11:37.89 I'm always so excited to see you, 00:11:37.93\00:11:39.29 it's like the first time because of that relationship 00:11:39.33\00:11:42.06 I have with you. 00:11:42.10\00:11:43.57 How do you think young people can fit better into the church? 00:11:43.60\00:11:49.17 Or do we as the older saints, 00:11:49.20\00:11:51.91 the people of God need to let you all do more? 00:11:51.94\00:11:55.08 I think at least a good first step 00:11:56.38\00:11:59.31 is for the where at least, 00:11:59.35\00:12:00.68 they get to know, know each other 00:12:00.72\00:12:02.05 and then allows young people that come to the church, 00:12:02.08\00:12:04.22 and he doesn't know that person, 00:12:04.25\00:12:05.85 or the elder doesn't know that person at all. 00:12:05.89\00:12:07.56 So once they first build a connection with them, 00:12:07.59\00:12:09.22 at least tell them know name to name basis, 00:12:09.26\00:12:12.13 then we kind of move forward. 00:12:12.16\00:12:14.10 And we can see if they can. 00:12:14.13\00:12:15.86 And as a young person to preach once, 00:12:15.90\00:12:17.43 one Saturday or ask them to play special music 00:12:17.47\00:12:19.97 or give on, give an offering or testimony, 00:12:20.00\00:12:22.47 something small to start off with to kind of start 00:12:22.50\00:12:25.14 to bring them in little more. 00:12:25.17\00:12:26.51 Right. 00:12:26.54\00:12:27.88 I know with my own wellness growing up in the church, 00:12:27.91\00:12:30.18 I was asked to be involved with different programs 00:12:30.21\00:12:33.31 and my mom would say, you need to be an usher. 00:12:33.35\00:12:36.95 Now that was one thing I just said, 00:12:36.99\00:12:38.39 that is not my calling to be an usher. 00:12:38.42\00:12:41.16 And I was a pathfinder. 00:12:41.19\00:12:43.69 And my wellness that really helped me 00:12:43.73\00:12:45.86 to be well rounded with my mental health. 00:12:45.89\00:12:48.40 I had a good relationship with my pastor, 00:12:48.43\00:12:50.33 his wife and family. 00:12:50.37\00:12:52.17 And I think that my stress during the week 00:12:52.20\00:12:55.84 was maybe high as a teenager, 00:12:55.87\00:12:58.17 school activities or things I was dealing with. 00:12:58.21\00:13:00.81 But I was so excited when the Sabbath came 00:13:00.84\00:13:03.61 and to be able to go and attend church 00:13:03.65\00:13:06.18 and I loved the choir rehearse or so, 00:13:06.21\00:13:08.68 and then and that was our place to meet and come together. 00:13:08.72\00:13:12.89 How could you say to a young person 00:13:12.92\00:13:16.36 who may be battling with alcohol, 00:13:16.39\00:13:18.96 and their wellness and you know them, 00:13:18.99\00:13:21.06 they go to church with you? 00:13:21.10\00:13:22.86 And they're using other substances? 00:13:22.90\00:13:26.63 What would you say to them to turn to Jesus? 00:13:26.67\00:13:30.47 Well, I first ask them know, why do you turn to alcohol? 00:13:30.51\00:13:35.84 Why, what makes you want to continue to drink like, 00:13:35.88\00:13:38.91 you know, that it destroys your body. 00:13:38.95\00:13:41.22 And you know, it's not good for you know, 00:13:41.25\00:13:42.98 that, you know, God doesn't want you 00:13:43.02\00:13:44.39 because your body is temple of God, 00:13:44.42\00:13:45.75 doesn't want you to destroy it. 00:13:45.79\00:13:47.12 So I first ask them, why they do what they do. 00:13:47.16\00:13:50.26 And then you know, 'cause they're in the church, 00:13:50.29\00:13:52.19 they know the truth, they just have to, 00:13:52.23\00:13:54.70 they have to, to live it, they have to accept it. 00:13:54.73\00:13:57.70 You know, so I have to 'cause that's kind of hard, 00:13:57.73\00:14:00.20 I probably asked him, you know, 00:14:00.24\00:14:03.07 to do some Bible studies with here and there, 00:14:03.10\00:14:05.24 or ask the pastor about it. 00:14:05.27\00:14:07.04 Because you know, we have a cool pastor. 00:14:07.08\00:14:08.41 You know, it's pretty, he's not super young, 00:14:08.44\00:14:10.05 but he's young at heart. 00:14:10.08\00:14:11.41 Yeah. 00:14:11.45\00:14:12.78 So if you can, if you have a comfortable conversation 00:14:12.81\00:14:14.55 with an elder or a pastor that can kind of, 00:14:14.58\00:14:17.22 that's doesn't like shame for doing 00:14:17.25\00:14:18.59 what you do but at least talks you through, 00:14:18.62\00:14:20.36 you need to kind of has to progress. 00:14:20.39\00:14:21.99 Don't push the young people out of the church. 00:14:22.02\00:14:23.93 But yet, you know, 00:14:23.96\00:14:25.29 the young people need to go through training. 00:14:25.33\00:14:27.10 You know, every office that I've served in the church, 00:14:27.13\00:14:30.23 I was trained coming up, 00:14:30.27\00:14:32.23 you know, being praise and worship leader. 00:14:32.27\00:14:34.20 And I used to remember, 00:14:34.24\00:14:35.57 one day I'm going to be minister of music. 00:14:35.60\00:14:37.51 But you know how long it took me 00:14:37.54\00:14:38.87 to get to be minister music? 00:14:38.91\00:14:40.81 Twenty five years, because I was still, 00:14:40.84\00:14:43.48 it wasn't God's time. 00:14:43.51\00:14:45.08 And I was still learning. 00:14:45.11\00:14:46.61 I was still learning the hymns. 00:14:46.65\00:14:48.08 I was still learning 00:14:48.12\00:14:49.45 how to make sure it was a good fit 00:14:49.48\00:14:52.15 when I did praise and worship 00:14:52.19\00:14:53.56 and then moving into other things 00:14:53.59\00:14:55.79 that I was still worship leader. 00:14:55.82\00:14:59.09 I was able to give back to God's church 00:14:59.13\00:15:01.70 because we don't stay in the church 00:15:01.73\00:15:04.50 who's going to be there to carry on the church. 00:15:04.53\00:15:07.47 So the second, third, fourth, fifth generation, 00:15:07.50\00:15:10.57 so when people say you're fourth generation. 00:15:10.61\00:15:13.17 Well, yes, because I'm still here. 00:15:13.21\00:15:15.51 But even Royce, I'm gonna tell you, 00:15:15.54\00:15:17.65 people of my age, 00:15:17.68\00:15:19.15 they've stopped going to church years ago, 00:15:19.18\00:15:22.02 and they're trying to find their way back. 00:15:22.05\00:15:24.49 And they missed so much. 00:15:24.52\00:15:26.59 And by the time they get back to church, 00:15:26.62\00:15:28.39 their wellness is like, 00:15:28.42\00:15:30.53 well, you know, I've been gone so long. 00:15:30.56\00:15:33.73 I'm kind of embarrassed to be back, 00:15:33.76\00:15:36.33 you know, we should still help those people to feel welcome. 00:15:36.36\00:15:40.47 Remember, when I introduced you to the City Temple. 00:15:40.50\00:15:42.87 That was a part of your wellness, 00:15:42.90\00:15:44.84 helping you to feel good 00:15:44.87\00:15:46.21 about being there and not be stressed. 00:15:46.24\00:15:48.78 And when people found out that who you were, 00:15:48.81\00:15:51.85 because we're all connected some way, 00:15:51.88\00:15:54.25 but they were just happy 00:15:54.28\00:15:56.12 to connect you to your grandfather. 00:15:56.15\00:15:58.29 You know, you were, where you born 00:15:58.32\00:16:01.06 when you lost your grandfather? 00:16:01.09\00:16:02.49 He died before I was born. 00:16:02.52\00:16:03.93 Yes, a great man. 00:16:03.96\00:16:05.59 Yes, a great man, great man of God. 00:16:05.63\00:16:08.33 But looking at the wellness, how you talk to people. 00:16:08.36\00:16:12.47 I noticed you're very polite. 00:16:12.50\00:16:14.64 You know, great eye contact, well poise. 00:16:14.67\00:16:18.84 Do you use your faith in school? 00:16:18.87\00:16:21.04 Do you get a chance to minister or witness to anyone in school? 00:16:21.08\00:16:25.61 I tried to, it was few years ago, 00:16:25.65\00:16:28.48 I was in this class called focus. 00:16:28.52\00:16:31.09 And they kind of teach you like the basic skills of life. 00:16:31.12\00:16:33.82 And this teacher, she was Jewish, 00:16:33.86\00:16:35.62 and she has do this, this project. 00:16:35.66\00:16:40.83 And it said, it gives a list of things to do. 00:16:40.86\00:16:43.63 And I said, she said fit it all in one week. 00:16:43.67\00:16:45.70 You can't take anything out. 00:16:45.73\00:16:47.40 Well, one of them said concert Friday night, 00:16:47.44\00:16:49.77 and a party Saturday. 00:16:49.80\00:16:52.97 She said don't take anything out. 00:16:53.01\00:16:54.34 But I knew you know, if it's real life, 00:16:54.38\00:16:56.48 we're playing real life. 00:16:56.51\00:16:57.85 I'm gonna take this out regardless. 00:16:57.88\00:16:59.21 So I took it out. 00:16:59.25\00:17:00.58 And I told her, because she said, everyone, 00:17:00.62\00:17:03.18 everyone know, tell they did. 00:17:03.22\00:17:05.02 So I told her she was like, 00:17:05.05\00:17:06.89 you can't you can't take this out. 00:17:06.92\00:17:08.62 So now you're fired from your job 00:17:08.66\00:17:10.23 because blah, blah. 00:17:10.26\00:17:11.59 And I was like, well, I'm Seventh-day Adventist, 00:17:11.63\00:17:13.53 and from Friday night, 00:17:13.56\00:17:14.90 Saturday's Friday night to Saturday night, 00:17:14.93\00:17:17.90 it's my Sabbath. 00:17:17.93\00:17:19.27 So I can't, you know, go to work that day, 00:17:19.30\00:17:22.14 or do anything that's ungodly. 00:17:22.17\00:17:24.31 And she was like, well, we'll see you, so you're fired. 00:17:24.34\00:17:25.81 And I said, well, I'm sure. 00:17:25.84\00:17:27.61 No, if it was God's plan, I'm gonna find another job. 00:17:27.64\00:17:30.55 And everything's gonna go well, because Saturday, 00:17:30.58\00:17:32.48 it's a seventh day. 00:17:32.51\00:17:33.85 And she always told my house Sunday was a seventh day, 00:17:33.88\00:17:36.28 and she was trying to go through 00:17:36.32\00:17:37.65 all this history or whatnot. 00:17:37.69\00:17:39.05 But um, after class, 00:17:39.09\00:17:41.02 I kind of talked her through it, 00:17:41.06\00:17:42.39 I give her one of those little small pamphlets. 00:17:42.42\00:17:44.69 And I asked her if she had any question 00:17:44.73\00:17:46.76 for me later, blah-blah. 00:17:46.80\00:17:48.43 And, you know, 00:17:48.46\00:17:49.86 around the beginning of that year, 00:17:49.90\00:17:51.23 she was kind of just mean, 00:17:51.27\00:17:52.60 and one of those feisty teachers, 00:17:52.63\00:17:53.97 but around the end of the year, 00:17:54.00\00:17:55.34 and still today, she's super nice. 00:17:55.37\00:17:57.57 She's hugging people, 00:17:57.61\00:17:58.94 she always greets me with a smile and a hug. 00:17:58.97\00:18:02.11 And I don't know if she read it or not, 00:18:02.14\00:18:04.55 but you can, you can definitely see a change. 00:18:04.58\00:18:06.75 So here and then I'll try to tell my teachers 00:18:06.78\00:18:09.05 or some of my Muslim friends about Adventism, 00:18:09.08\00:18:12.35 and Jesus Christ and whatnot. 00:18:12.39\00:18:13.72 That is a blessing. 00:18:13.76\00:18:15.39 Now, in your wellness and having balanced. 00:18:15.42\00:18:19.23 You know, when do you get a break? 00:18:19.26\00:18:20.70 Do you play every Sabbath? 00:18:20.73\00:18:22.40 Are you the only pianist on duty at church? 00:18:22.43\00:18:25.37 So, you know, as you know, 00:18:25.40\00:18:26.84 I play for the mostly in Youth Federation Praise Team. 00:18:26.87\00:18:29.17 And we play, you know, in different churches, 00:18:29.20\00:18:31.44 maybe two or three times a month. 00:18:31.47\00:18:33.54 But my church has another pianist. 00:18:33.58\00:18:35.84 So sometimes I'll play with him, 00:18:35.88\00:18:38.85 but mostly just to practice for my ear 00:18:38.88\00:18:40.98 and just to get better at what I'm doing, 00:18:41.02\00:18:42.62 but usually he's there. 00:18:42.65\00:18:44.05 But just about every Saturday, I'm playing the piano. 00:18:44.09\00:18:45.95 I'm not complaining. 00:18:45.99\00:18:47.32 All right, and I know you love serving the Lord. 00:18:47.36\00:18:50.13 But we all have to have that me time. 00:18:50.16\00:18:52.43 God wants us to look at our mental health, 00:18:52.46\00:18:55.40 our physical, emotional, 00:18:55.43\00:18:57.63 He wants us to be well balanced spiritually. 00:18:57.67\00:19:00.70 And if any of those things are off balance, 00:19:00.74\00:19:03.10 it's going to throw the whole core off. 00:19:03.14\00:19:05.21 So the Bible is very clear, 00:19:05.24\00:19:07.21 do everything decently and in order. 00:19:07.24\00:19:09.98 So we need to, when we cut that pie, 00:19:10.01\00:19:13.28 we want to cut it evenly 00:19:13.31\00:19:14.88 so that everything stays in balance. 00:19:14.92\00:19:17.39 You know, rest. 00:19:17.42\00:19:18.75 What about getting your rest, 00:19:18.79\00:19:20.12 you get enough rest in a part of your wellness? 00:19:20.16\00:19:22.22 I do. 00:19:22.26\00:19:23.59 'Cause young people want to stay up and you know, 00:19:23.63\00:19:26.29 so you get 8-10 hours of sleep. 00:19:26.33\00:19:27.93 Yeah, I like sleep. 00:19:27.96\00:19:31.40 You know, I need to sleep more, you know, I'm so busy, 00:19:31.43\00:19:35.40 but I have to get my rest. 00:19:35.44\00:19:37.81 When it comes to the Word of God, 00:19:37.84\00:19:42.34 I heard you say, you read the Steps to Christ, 00:19:42.38\00:19:44.61 that's every morning you read the Steps to Christ? 00:19:44.65\00:19:46.98 Every morning when I wake up 00:19:47.02\00:19:48.35 and every night before I go to sleep. 00:19:48.38\00:19:49.72 See just witness. 00:19:49.75\00:19:51.09 You just witness to me. 00:19:51.12\00:19:52.45 I've not picked up my little red 00:19:52.49\00:19:53.82 Steps to Christ book, 00:19:53.86\00:19:55.19 the little red book, the little, you know, 00:19:55.22\00:19:57.53 paperback, I'm reading all my other books. 00:19:57.56\00:20:00.13 I've been reading Adventist Homes. 00:20:00.16\00:20:02.16 I've been reading Patriarchs and Prophets. 00:20:02.20\00:20:04.00 I've been reading Acts of the Apostle. 00:20:04.03\00:20:07.97 I've been reading like those books, 00:20:08.00\00:20:09.37 but Steps to Christ was a beautiful book. 00:20:09.40\00:20:12.57 And this book is written by Ellen G. White. 00:20:12.61\00:20:15.94 And we use her books in our church, 00:20:15.98\00:20:19.15 our schools and in our training, 00:20:19.18\00:20:21.48 amazing books. 00:20:21.52\00:20:23.18 So why Steps to Christ? 00:20:23.22\00:20:25.49 I was always told, you know, Steps to Christ is a good book, 00:20:25.52\00:20:27.82 you have to reset to Christ blah, blah, blah. 00:20:27.86\00:20:29.69 And, you know, I was like, I just one day, 00:20:29.72\00:20:31.06 we're gonna try it. 00:20:31.09\00:20:32.43 Let's read it, it's one, maybe two, three paragraphs 00:20:32.46\00:20:34.66 every morning, every night. 00:20:34.70\00:20:36.03 And so far, you know, they weren't wrong. 00:20:36.06\00:20:37.97 It's a great book. 00:20:38.00\00:20:39.37 It's a great book. 00:20:39.40\00:20:40.74 So have you read it all the way through 00:20:40.77\00:20:42.40 and you're reading it again? 00:20:42.44\00:20:43.77 I'm on Chapter 3 right now. Chapter 3. 00:20:43.81\00:20:45.97 So what have you learned so far in Step to Christ? 00:20:46.01\00:20:49.18 A lot of the stuff is just more of a recycling, 00:20:49.21\00:20:52.28 but it kind of just, it kind of pushes the point, 00:20:52.31\00:20:55.08 you know, that God, God's always going to be there. 00:20:55.12\00:20:57.69 You know, it doesn't matter how low you think 00:20:57.72\00:20:59.52 you're going to get 00:20:59.55\00:21:00.89 or how low you think you already are. 00:21:00.92\00:21:02.52 No, God is always going to be right beside you. 00:21:02.56\00:21:04.79 It's going to be on you'd have to push them away. 00:21:04.83\00:21:06.59 But he's not, you know, he's not going to be, 00:21:06.63\00:21:08.36 he's going to be there. 00:21:08.40\00:21:09.73 You know, that's one of the biggest points 00:21:09.76\00:21:12.23 that I've got from the book so far. 00:21:12.27\00:21:13.60 That God will never leave you... 00:21:13.64\00:21:14.97 He'll never leave you nor forsake you. 00:21:15.00\00:21:16.34 Or forsake you. That's right. 00:21:16.37\00:21:18.14 So being convicted with God, a relationship with God, 00:21:18.17\00:21:23.38 having total wellness, having good health, 00:21:23.41\00:21:27.45 when it comes to your mental 00:21:27.48\00:21:28.95 and emotional balance, all right? 00:21:28.98\00:21:32.72 Are you dating? Any other instruments? 00:22:29.68\00:22:32.31 No, I tried the guitar for a bit. 00:22:32.35\00:22:34.65 It was all right as to for a class, 00:22:34.68\00:22:36.02 two months I kept practicing. 00:22:36.05\00:22:37.39 But then you know, I stopped. 00:22:37.42\00:22:38.75 Okay. 00:22:38.79\00:22:40.12 You know, why did you stopped playing the piano before, 00:22:40.16\00:22:41.82 was it just something you decided to put down 00:22:41.86\00:22:43.46 for a little while? 00:22:43.49\00:22:44.83 Um, I was going to teach it to different churches. 00:22:44.86\00:22:46.83 I went to metropolitan for a bit 00:22:46.86\00:22:48.40 and they had a piano teacher there. 00:22:48.43\00:22:50.20 And she was, she was just abusive verbally, 00:22:50.23\00:22:52.20 not physically, she was just verbally abusive, 00:22:52.23\00:22:53.84 telling me, no, you had to do it this way. 00:22:53.87\00:22:55.67 This is you play like why you do it wrong. 00:22:55.70\00:22:57.64 She called me. She'll call me names. 00:22:57.67\00:22:59.54 It was not kind of good names and kind of had discouraged me. 00:22:59.57\00:23:02.74 So I stopped for a few years saying if, 00:23:02.78\00:23:04.98 oh, she's saying we're doing it wrong, and she's a teacher. 00:23:05.01\00:23:06.98 So I'm doing it wrong. 00:23:07.02\00:23:08.35 So you know, I can't do it right. 00:23:08.38\00:23:09.75 So I just stopped for a bit. 00:23:09.78\00:23:11.15 One of my piano teachers hit me on the hand. 00:23:11.19\00:23:13.69 And that was, that was abuse. 00:23:13.72\00:23:15.96 So that can discourage a young person. 00:23:15.99\00:23:18.76 And that's why we have to be careful with you 00:23:18.79\00:23:21.30 all in the church. 00:23:21.33\00:23:22.73 Because once we attack your mental health 00:23:22.76\00:23:25.67 and your wellness, 00:23:25.70\00:23:27.10 you're not going to want to come back. 00:23:27.14\00:23:28.97 You know, and you know, we'll do it. 00:23:29.00\00:23:31.47 We'll show you how it's done. 00:23:31.51\00:23:33.01 Well, teachers, trainers, 00:23:33.04\00:23:35.11 but you can talk to us in a way 00:23:35.14\00:23:36.64 that's loving and kind, 00:23:36.68\00:23:38.41 so that they want to come back, you know and do something. 00:23:38.45\00:23:42.45 I'm so happy that you Regina, Lindsay, 00:23:42.48\00:23:46.05 some of our young people 00:23:46.09\00:23:47.72 at the City Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:23:47.76\00:23:49.92 have you pulling together 00:23:49.96\00:23:51.36 from all the different churches. 00:23:51.39\00:23:53.50 And I believe God is going to use you all 00:23:53.53\00:23:56.67 to help win others to Christ 00:23:56.70\00:23:58.93 because we are living in the last days. 00:23:58.97\00:24:00.57 Do you believe that? Definitely. 00:24:00.60\00:24:02.30 Tell me why you believe that we are living in last days? 00:24:02.34\00:24:04.91 All the signs that are, you know, popping up, 00:24:04.94\00:24:07.38 they just tell that God's coming back, 00:24:07.41\00:24:09.38 you know, all the stuff is happening 00:24:09.41\00:24:11.05 to the earth itself naturally. 00:24:11.08\00:24:13.42 And then you know, people just 00:24:13.45\00:24:15.62 and then the Sunday laws kind of becoming a little more, 00:24:15.65\00:24:17.89 little more pushed, little more pushed. 00:24:17.92\00:24:19.82 I've noticed that, you know, 00:24:19.85\00:24:21.19 talking to different people here and there. 00:24:21.22\00:24:23.79 Just reading about the signs of the times 00:24:23.83\00:24:25.49 just in Bible Revelation and in Job, 00:24:25.53\00:24:28.00 you can definitely see that this is the end. 00:24:28.03\00:24:31.27 Almost definitely. 00:24:31.30\00:24:32.63 You know, when I was reading the Great Controversy, 00:24:32.67\00:24:34.74 certain things have already happened. 00:24:34.77\00:24:36.97 And then I go back to Revelation, 00:24:37.01\00:24:39.07 I go back to Job, the Book of Daniel, 00:24:39.11\00:24:41.54 and there's just so much and I'm not afraid, 00:24:41.58\00:24:43.65 you know, to read the Bible 00:24:43.68\00:24:45.25 because these things must happen 00:24:45.28\00:24:47.32 for Jesus to come. 00:24:47.35\00:24:49.08 You know, are you excited about Jesus coming again? 00:24:49.12\00:24:52.35 I am, I used to be kind of, 00:24:52.39\00:24:53.89 kind of scared because you know, 00:24:53.92\00:24:55.26 it's scary all like, all the hailstorms 00:24:55.29\00:24:57.83 and the stars falling and the blood moon and all, 00:24:57.86\00:25:01.00 this all these natural phenomenons, 00:25:01.03\00:25:02.60 not counting what people are going to do, 00:25:02.63\00:25:04.93 you know, it was, it was kind of scary. 00:25:04.97\00:25:06.90 But then when you realize that, 00:25:06.94\00:25:09.27 after you finish the race or after the fight is over, 00:25:09.30\00:25:11.94 you know, which is just gonna be 00:25:11.97\00:25:13.38 happiness as you with him. 00:25:13.41\00:25:15.04 And Jesus, you know, 00:25:15.08\00:25:16.68 I don't care if I'm in the front of the line, 00:25:16.71\00:25:18.91 in the back of the line, on the side, 00:25:18.95\00:25:21.28 you know, I was reading where the 12 tribes. 00:25:21.32\00:25:25.65 And when I took a class at my church, 00:25:25.69\00:25:28.02 with my pastor, my former pastor, 00:25:28.06\00:25:29.69 William Joseph, 00:25:29.72\00:25:31.06 and I was studying about the books of the Bible, 00:25:31.09\00:25:34.50 the 12 tribes, 00:25:34.53\00:25:36.03 and I was able to learn about my own personality, 00:25:36.06\00:25:39.03 and understand certain things, 00:25:39.07\00:25:40.97 why certain things have happened. 00:25:41.00\00:25:43.77 But all these things must come to pass 00:25:43.81\00:25:45.61 for Jesus to come. 00:25:45.64\00:25:47.11 Let me ask you this. 00:25:47.14\00:25:48.48 Where do you see yourself 00:25:48.51\00:25:51.48 as a leader growing up in the church now? 00:25:51.51\00:25:54.98 Where do you see yourself? 00:25:55.02\00:25:56.38 Well now, because I play the piano, 00:25:56.42\00:25:59.32 I've been able to get you want people to see, 00:25:59.35\00:26:03.06 I've been able to ask people, 00:26:03.09\00:26:04.43 you know, if you want to do special music or not, 00:26:04.46\00:26:06.49 and I guess that's kind of my, 00:26:06.53\00:26:08.10 my way in, because, you know, 00:26:08.13\00:26:09.50 I hate talking in front of people 00:26:09.53\00:26:11.13 as you can see. 00:26:11.17\00:26:13.23 You're doing great. 00:26:13.27\00:26:15.50 You know, but I think me being a musician, 00:26:15.54\00:26:19.34 it just kind of paved my path into leadership, 00:26:19.37\00:26:22.44 because soon, hopefully, 00:26:22.48\00:26:24.55 I plan to lead a praise team down, 00:26:24.58\00:26:28.12 teach them their parts and all that stuff, 00:26:28.15\00:26:29.82 and hopefully bring more people into the church by doing that, 00:26:29.85\00:26:32.85 because you know, lot of people love music. 00:26:32.89\00:26:34.39 So if you play a little more, you know, I guess not, 00:26:34.42\00:26:37.76 not fashion gospel music, but a little more, 00:26:37.79\00:26:39.86 the newer gospel music, 00:26:39.89\00:26:41.23 it'll kind of just bring them more in. 00:26:41.26\00:26:42.83 So I guess, me as a paste of a piano player, 00:26:42.86\00:26:45.77 it will be kind of my way in. 00:26:45.80\00:26:47.47 Do you write? 00:26:47.50\00:26:48.94 I do.
