I've never been to Oshkosh. 00:01:29.72\00:01:31.82 Can you tell me what is Oshkosh and where is it? 00:01:31.85\00:01:35.16 Yes, Oshkosh is an International Camporee. 00:01:35.19\00:01:38.79 It's featured with pathfinders from all across the world 00:01:38.83\00:01:42.56 and we have the opportunity. 00:01:42.60\00:01:44.60 It's an Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on a campground, 00:01:44.63\00:01:47.07 and we have the opportunity to network 00:01:47.10\00:01:49.70 with other pathfinders all across different regions, 00:01:49.74\00:01:52.67 different conferences. 00:01:52.71\00:01:54.31 And we have the opportunity to earn honors together, 00:01:54.34\00:01:57.25 and to just be one in Christ. 00:01:57.28\00:01:58.78 That's a blessing. The one in Christ is the key. 00:01:58.81\00:02:00.98 Yes. 00:02:01.02\00:02:02.35 Now they had the play presentation 00:02:02.38\00:02:04.45 about David. 00:02:04.49\00:02:05.82 Yes. 00:02:05.85\00:02:07.19 What did you gain from the presentations 00:02:07.22\00:02:08.56 every night? 00:02:08.59\00:02:09.92 What I gained 00:02:09.96\00:02:11.29 from the presentations every night was that 00:02:11.33\00:02:12.66 David was a man of many mistakes. 00:02:12.69\00:02:14.36 He made plenty mistakes. 00:02:14.40\00:02:16.23 Yes. 00:02:16.26\00:02:17.60 But that did not change God's love for David. 00:02:17.63\00:02:19.97 And it did not change His purpose for David. 00:02:20.00\00:02:21.97 Listen, it's something about the scripture 00:02:22.00\00:02:24.24 that says in 1 John 1:9, 00:02:24.27\00:02:26.34 "If you confess your sins, 00:02:26.37\00:02:28.51 He is faithful and just to forgive you of your sins 00:02:28.54\00:02:31.18 and cleanse you from all unrighteousness." 00:02:31.21\00:02:33.52 But we have to turn from our wicked ways. 00:02:33.55\00:02:35.68 Yes. 00:02:35.72\00:02:37.05 Something recently happened at Oshkosh. 00:02:37.09\00:02:38.45 What was it? 00:02:38.49\00:02:39.82 I was baptized for the very first time at Oshkosh. 00:02:39.85\00:02:43.09 My goodness. 00:02:43.12\00:02:44.46 What was that like? 00:02:44.49\00:02:45.99 It was a life-changing experience. 00:02:46.03\00:02:49.26 It was very life-changing. 00:02:49.30\00:02:51.07 I went in, I did not know that I would be baptized 00:02:51.10\00:02:54.84 because in my mind, I thought when I got baptized, 00:02:54.87\00:02:58.57 I would be here at home. 00:02:58.61\00:03:00.84 It would be at my home church, Burns Seventh-day 00:03:00.88\00:03:02.88 Adventist Church on East Cadillac in Warren. 00:03:02.91\00:03:04.65 All right. 00:03:04.68\00:03:06.01 I thought my family would be there 00:03:06.05\00:03:07.98 in support of me, my friends, you, 00:03:08.02\00:03:10.99 you know, but God had a different plan. 00:03:11.02\00:03:13.59 Come on now. And I'm okay with it. 00:03:13.62\00:03:14.96 A different plan. Yes. 00:03:14.99\00:03:16.52 And sometimes we have to follow that plan. 00:03:16.56\00:03:18.53 Yes. 00:03:18.56\00:03:19.89 Now, were you baptized by a pastor 00:03:19.93\00:03:21.26 that you knew from Lake Region? 00:03:21.30\00:03:22.63 Yes. Who baptized you? 00:03:22.66\00:03:24.10 I was baptized by Pastor Duncan. 00:03:24.13\00:03:26.00 Were you? 00:03:26.03\00:03:27.37 Yes, I was. Oh, that's my pastor. 00:03:27.40\00:03:29.20 Yes. 00:03:29.24\00:03:30.57 Yes, at the City Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:03:30.61\00:03:32.37 Yes, City Temple. 00:03:32.41\00:03:34.24 So how did it impact you as far as 00:03:34.28\00:03:38.78 because some of your other friends 00:03:38.81\00:03:40.15 were baptized too? 00:03:40.18\00:03:41.52 Because, you know, as we grow up, 00:03:41.55\00:03:43.22 we tend to allow peer pressure to cause us, 00:03:43.25\00:03:45.69 you got to be baptized, you got to be baptized. 00:03:45.72\00:03:47.22 Yes. 00:03:47.26\00:03:48.59 You went through that? Yes. 00:03:48.62\00:03:49.96 Tell us about that? 00:03:49.99\00:03:51.33 In the third and fourth grade, 00:03:51.36\00:03:53.09 there was just a period of where everyone, 00:03:53.13\00:03:55.16 it seemed like everyone was getting baptized. 00:03:55.20\00:03:57.33 And I didn't really understand what baptism was. 00:03:57.37\00:04:00.30 And it was like, you know, you're not baptized yet? 00:04:00.34\00:04:03.00 Jordyn, you're not baptized? 00:04:03.04\00:04:04.57 And I just, I didn't know what to do. 00:04:04.61\00:04:07.01 And I went down for a sermon after sermon before, 00:04:07.04\00:04:11.48 to get baptized, but I realized I didn't really understand 00:04:11.51\00:04:15.55 why I was getting baptized. 00:04:15.58\00:04:18.09 And I think it was because of the peer pressure, 00:04:18.12\00:04:20.16 you know, everyone's calling you up 00:04:20.19\00:04:21.82 for not being baptized. 00:04:21.86\00:04:23.43 Then it definitely had an effect on me 00:04:23.46\00:04:26.23 in some of my friendships. 00:04:26.26\00:04:27.60 I see. 00:04:27.63\00:04:28.96 So some of your friends or your peers 00:04:29.00\00:04:31.10 were baptized also with you. 00:04:31.13\00:04:32.97 Yes. 00:04:33.00\00:04:34.34 Now, you were baptized individually 00:04:34.37\00:04:35.70 unless it was like a brother or a sister. 00:04:35.74\00:04:37.07 Yes. 00:04:37.11\00:04:38.44 Did they have a lot of baptism pools all around? 00:04:38.47\00:04:40.18 Yes, they had four baptism pools 00:04:40.21\00:04:42.54 if I'm not mistaken. 00:04:42.58\00:04:44.58 They were separated by each conference. 00:04:44.61\00:04:46.98 So we were baptized in the Lake Region Conference... 00:04:47.02\00:04:49.42 Is that right? 00:04:49.45\00:04:50.79 Baptism pool. Yes. 00:04:50.82\00:04:52.15 So there were young people from all over the world, 00:04:52.19\00:04:53.86 Africa, Europe, China? 00:04:53.89\00:04:56.73 Yes. Really? 00:04:56.76\00:04:58.09 Yes. 00:04:58.13\00:04:59.46 That was a long flight, for how many days? 00:04:59.49\00:05:02.36 It was for six days. Okay. 00:05:02.40\00:05:04.33 So I can see that for six days, flying 20 hours. 00:05:04.37\00:05:07.24 All right. 00:05:07.27\00:05:08.60 But the experience is well worth it. 00:05:08.64\00:05:11.01 Yes. 00:05:11.04\00:05:12.37 What has been your overall favorite scripture? 00:05:12.41\00:05:15.84 My overall favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13, 00:05:15.88\00:05:19.65 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." 00:05:19.68\00:05:22.02 Why that scripture? 00:05:22.05\00:05:24.12 That is my favorite scripture 00:05:24.15\00:05:26.09 because I've realized as I'm getting older, 00:05:26.12\00:05:30.53 everything that I do, everything that I touch, 00:05:30.56\00:05:33.70 it is blessed and ordained by God. 00:05:33.73\00:05:36.46 Can you just say that one more time? 00:05:36.50\00:05:37.83 It's blessed and what? 00:05:37.87\00:05:39.20 It's blessed and ordained by God. 00:05:39.23\00:05:40.57 Ordained by God? 00:05:40.60\00:05:41.94 Yes. Yes. All right. 00:05:41.97\00:05:43.30 Don't give me, you're preaching right now. 00:05:43.34\00:05:46.34 So in that, 00:05:46.37\00:05:47.74 you know, God has complete control over your life. 00:05:47.78\00:05:50.05 Yes. 00:05:50.08\00:05:51.41 Now, you are, you were once 00:05:51.45\00:05:55.18 in Seventh-day Adventists Academy? Yes. 00:05:55.22\00:05:57.32 Now you're attending public school? 00:05:57.35\00:05:59.02 Yes. 00:05:59.05\00:06:00.39 Your plan is going to Oakland University 00:06:00.42\00:06:01.76 in Huntsville, Alabama? 00:06:01.79\00:06:03.16 Yes. 00:06:03.19\00:06:04.53 My alma mater, yes. Yes. 00:06:04.56\00:06:05.99 What are the challenges that you are now facing, 00:06:06.03\00:06:09.13 being in public school? 00:06:09.16\00:06:11.23 Being in public school is definitely a challenge. 00:06:11.27\00:06:14.77 My main challenge over the course of me 00:06:14.80\00:06:18.27 being in public school, leaving Peterson-Warren Academy 00:06:18.31\00:06:21.34 has been my spiritual journey. 00:06:21.38\00:06:25.78 Being at Peterson, Peterson was that foundation. 00:06:25.81\00:06:29.88 That's where I really could make my connection with Christ. 00:06:29.92\00:06:34.36 And so being in public school, 00:06:34.39\00:06:36.32 we don't have the worship every morning. 00:06:36.36\00:06:38.39 We don't have the chapels and the pastors coming 00:06:38.43\00:06:41.66 in to talk to us and praying over us. 00:06:41.70\00:06:44.07 So being in public school, 00:06:44.10\00:06:45.87 it really tested my relationship with God. 00:06:45.90\00:06:49.94 Yes. 00:06:49.97\00:06:51.31 You know, I'm a product of Seventh-day Adventist school 00:06:51.34\00:06:54.81 and public school and then went to boarding academy 00:06:54.84\00:06:57.21 and then on to Oakwood. 00:06:57.25\00:06:58.78 Peterson-Warren Academy is a Seventh-day Adventist 00:06:58.81\00:07:02.52 School located in Inkster, Michigan. 00:07:02.55\00:07:05.52 And that's right outside of Detroit, Michigan. 00:07:05.55\00:07:08.12 And we have many academies 00:07:08.16\00:07:11.13 in different regions of the country, 00:07:11.16\00:07:13.43 different parts of the country. 00:07:13.46\00:07:15.30 And so being a prodigal, 00:07:15.33\00:07:17.50 I attended Davidson Warren Academy 00:07:17.53\00:07:19.57 and they merged the two schools together. 00:07:19.60\00:07:21.97 Because with such division, 00:07:22.00\00:07:23.81 you know, had a school on the east side, the west side, 00:07:23.84\00:07:26.41 how can we bring these schools together? 00:07:26.44\00:07:28.51 Well, what happened was it started to tilter off. 00:07:28.54\00:07:32.65 And when the closing the east high school 00:07:32.68\00:07:35.15 and transferring to Peterson Warren. 00:07:35.18\00:07:37.69 Let me ask you, why do you serve God? 00:07:37.72\00:07:40.12 Why do you want to serve God? 00:07:40.16\00:07:41.52 Seventeen, you could be out, 00:07:41.56\00:07:43.73 you know, doing your thing and hanging out. 00:07:43.76\00:07:47.20 But, I saw you at church Sabbath. 00:07:47.23\00:07:49.60 You were standing right next to me. 00:07:49.63\00:07:51.77 Yes. All right. 00:07:51.80\00:07:53.13 And I'm like, okay, this young lady loves God. 00:07:53.17\00:07:56.10 Yes. 00:07:56.14\00:07:57.47 You know? 00:07:57.51\00:07:58.84 I mean, you were there. 00:07:58.87\00:08:00.21 I mean, I'm Sabbath school superintendent, one of them. 00:08:00.24\00:08:02.24 And I turned around, there was Jordyn Taylor. 00:08:02.28\00:08:04.41 Yes.
