Harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few. 00:00:01.98\00:00:04.10 Pray Ye therefore, the Lord of the harvest, 00:00:04.11\00:00:06.48 that He will, He will send forth laborers 00:00:06.49\00:00:09.58 into His harvest. 00:00:09.59\00:00:10.58 Also, I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 00:00:10.59\00:00:13.70 "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" 00:00:13.71\00:00:18.03 Then said, I. Sword. 00:01:31.62\00:01:34.69 Than any two-edged sword, that's right. 00:01:34.70\00:01:36.19 So we're going to be sharpening our sword 00:01:36.20\00:01:39.97 and what we've done is 00:01:39.98\00:01:41.32 we've marked these Bible studies in our Bible. 00:01:41.33\00:01:43.99 So right now if you've all been following along, 00:01:44.00\00:01:47.17 maybe you've got the DVD set. 00:01:47.18\00:01:48.69 You should have 20 Bible studies marked 00:01:48.70\00:01:50.80 in our Bible by this time, 00:01:50.81\00:01:52.43 and now we're doing Bible study number 21. 00:01:52.44\00:01:55.01 So we'll go to our graphic there. 00:01:55.02\00:01:57.17 The title of this Bible study is "Prayer." 00:01:57.18\00:02:01.40 And the code for marking it is what? 00:02:01.41\00:02:03.70 P. P. Well, that just makes sense, doesn't it? 00:02:03.71\00:02:06.82 The purpose of this Bible study is to show 00:02:06.83\00:02:10.49 that prayer is powerful, effectual, 00:02:10.50\00:02:14.87 and necessary for the disciple of Christ. 00:02:14.88\00:02:18.63 Prayer is powerful, effectual, 00:02:18.64\00:02:21.70 and necessary for the disciple of Christ. 00:02:21.71\00:02:25.29 What does necessary mean? 00:02:25.30\00:02:28.88 Something that you must to do, right, 00:02:28.89\00:02:30.75 it's necessary, something that is needed. 00:02:30.76\00:02:33.91 Our Center It here shows that Jesus 00:02:33.92\00:02:36.60 wants to hear and answer our prayers. 00:02:36.61\00:02:40.85 Jesus wants to hear and answer our prayers. 00:02:40.86\00:02:43.08 He shows us in His word that there are conditions upon 00:02:43.09\00:02:47.83 which our prayers are heard. 00:02:47.84\00:02:51.35 Now this may come as a surprise to some of us, 00:02:51.36\00:02:54.04 but there are things that you and I can do 00:02:54.05\00:02:58.94 that would cause God not to hear our prayers. 00:02:58.95\00:03:02.53 Now to me that is a thought 00:03:02.54\00:03:04.71 that I don't like to think about. 00:03:04.72\00:03:06.94 But it's true and we will go over this in this study 00:03:06.95\00:03:09.89 that it doesn't matter where we are in our station in life. 00:03:09.90\00:03:13.05 It doesn't matter where our life has put us. 00:03:13.06\00:03:16.45 God's hand is not too short that He can't save us, 00:03:16.46\00:03:19.56 nor His ear too heavy that He cannot hear us. 00:03:19.57\00:03:24.40 So God, if when we hit, you remember 00:03:24.41\00:03:26.71 in one of our other studies, I told you that 00:03:26.72\00:03:28.27 my theory on hitting rock bottom is that 00:03:28.28\00:03:30.56 you really don't hit rock bottom, 00:03:30.57\00:03:31.71 you just hit the rock and the only way to look is 00:03:31.72\00:03:34.36 at the rock because you just smashed into Him 00:03:34.37\00:03:37.03 and that rock is Jesus, 00:03:37.04\00:03:38.01 1st Corinthian Chapter 10 verse 4. 00:03:38.02\00:03:41.26 And so Jesus gives us conditions in His word 00:03:41.27\00:03:44.67 and maybe some of what we learn today is going to be 00:03:44.68\00:03:46.66 shocking for some of us, but when we know it, 00:03:46.67\00:03:49.99 we can apply it and we can know, 00:03:50.00\00:03:53.16 we'll never again where we've to wonder 00:03:53.17\00:03:55.53 if our prayers make it pass the ceiling. 00:03:55.54\00:03:59.07 Because we will be able to say, you know, 00:03:59.08\00:04:01.11 Lord, I've done everything that you've asked me to do. 00:04:01.12\00:04:05.60 Please hear my prayer and we can know that God 00:04:05.61\00:04:08.57 has heard that prayer. 00:04:08.58\00:04:10.77 But again don't misunderstand, 00:04:10.78\00:04:12.63 God can hear the prayer that say save me. 00:04:12.64\00:04:15.31 Did He hear Peter when Peter was sinking. 00:04:15.32\00:04:17.19 He sure did. Did He hear me 00:04:17.20\00:04:18.50 when I was sinking and I have my weight 00:04:18.51\00:04:20.20 is on there in the St. Joseph River in Michigan, 00:04:20.21\00:04:22.66 snow all over the ground and I fell in, 00:04:22.67\00:04:24.58 did He hear me? I said save me Lord, 00:04:24.59\00:04:26.56 and of course, He heard me and He saved me. 00:04:26.57\00:04:28.61 And He will do that for every one of us 00:04:28.62\00:04:31.04 when we give our life to Him. 00:04:31.05\00:04:32.82 So what you see there on the screen now 00:04:32.83\00:04:35.32 are the text that we're going to use in this study? 00:04:35.33\00:04:38.48 We're going to have 14 references 00:04:38.49\00:04:40.65 in this Bible study on prayer, 00:04:40.66\00:04:42.78 and it's broken off into seven different areas. 00:04:42.79\00:04:46.22 So you are looking at the graphic right now. 00:04:46.23\00:04:48.40 Seven different areas and the first area is the need, 00:04:48.41\00:04:53.12 the second area is forgiveness, 00:04:53.13\00:04:55.89 and then faith, then forgiving others, 00:04:55.90\00:04:59.56 persevering, unselfish asking, 00:04:59.57\00:05:02.97 and then asking according to God's will. 00:05:02.98\00:05:06.05 These are the seven different areas 00:05:06.06\00:05:08.24 that this Bible study is broken up into. 00:05:08.25\00:05:11.70 So we will go ahead and we will start 00:05:11.71\00:05:13.31 on our first section, the Need. 00:05:13.32\00:05:17.54 The reason that you and I would even begin 00:05:17.55\00:05:20.56 to pray is because we've a need. 00:05:20.57\00:05:26.27 So we're on, you notice on the graphic there, 00:05:26.28\00:05:28.51 we're in our first prayer text. 00:05:28.52\00:05:31.42 This is Luke 18:1through 7, and when you are marking it 00:05:31.43\00:05:35.09 in your Bible, it's a 1P is in the circle 00:05:35.10\00:05:37.98 then you have the line. 00:05:37.99\00:05:39.21 The line represents the text that we're at which 00:05:39.22\00:05:41.25 is Luke 18:1 through 7. 00:05:41.26\00:05:43.11 The reference we will be going to next is 00:05:43.12\00:05:44.98 Matthew Chapter 5 and verse 6. 00:05:44.99\00:05:48.11 So here we are. 00:05:48.12\00:05:49.90 We're opening our Bibles here in the room. 00:05:49.91\00:05:51.90 Those who that are at home or at school, 00:05:51.91\00:05:54.02 maybe on internet, watching in your DVD player, 00:05:54.03\00:05:56.80 get your Bible out and turn with us 00:05:56.81\00:05:58.95 to Luke the 18th Chapter and we will begin reading 00:05:58.96\00:06:03.19 in verse 1, Luke Chapter 18 and verse 1. 00:06:03.20\00:06:07.71 And Shalida, are you going to read that for us? 00:06:07.72\00:06:10.96 Let's just move that microphone over there to her. 00:06:10.97\00:06:13.80 Luke Chapter 18, you're gonna read 00:06:13.81\00:06:15.78 verses 1 through 7. 00:06:15.79\00:06:17.58 Now I may interrupt you, all right, 00:06:17.59\00:06:19.84 so just be prepared for that. 00:06:19.85\00:06:22.65 "And he spake a parable unto them to this end, 00:06:22.66\00:06:26.34 that men ought always to pray, and not to faint, saying" 00:06:26.35\00:06:30.56 Okay, stop right there. 00:06:30.57\00:06:32.41 What Shalida is the purpose of this parable? 00:06:32.42\00:06:36.11 Verse 1, what was that tells on? 00:06:40.39\00:06:44.83 To teach us to pray, it says right there, 00:06:44.84\00:06:46.66 and he spake a parable unto them to this end, 00:06:46.67\00:06:49.41 that men ought always to what? 00:06:49.42\00:06:51.97 To pray, so the purpose of this parable 00:06:51.98\00:06:54.02 is to teach us to do what? Because she is bothering him. 00:07:48.57\00:07:51.30 Because she is bothering him. 00:07:51.31\00:07:54.19 She just keeps coming and coming and coming 00:07:54.20\00:07:57.20 and asking and asking and asking 00:07:57.21\00:07:59.26 and finally he says though I don't fear God 00:07:59.27\00:08:02.29 nor regard man, because this lady is wearing me down, 00:08:02.30\00:08:06.81 I'm going to answer her prayer. 00:08:06.82\00:08:09.21 And then continue reading there in verse 6 and 7. 00:08:09.22\00:08:13.84 "And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. 00:08:13.85\00:08:18.21 And shall not God avenge his own elect, 00:08:18.22\00:08:21.01 which cry day and night unto him, 00:08:21.02\00:08:23.52 though he bear long with them?" 00:08:23.53\00:08:26.85 Okay, so notice that this lady has a need. 00:08:26.86\00:08:31.27 What is this lady's need? 00:08:31.28\00:08:34.91 To avenger her of her adversary. 00:08:34.92\00:08:37.48 Evidently someone was persecuting this lady 00:08:37.49\00:08:39.99 and she knew that it wasn't right 00:08:40.00\00:08:42.03 and so she goes to the judge, the judge is supposed 00:08:42.04\00:08:44.99 to treat all people fairly and she goes to the judge 00:08:45.00\00:08:48.68 and this judge says all right, 00:08:48.69\00:08:50.18 I'm just going to deal with this lady 00:08:50.19\00:08:51.28 because this lady is driving me crazy. 00:08:51.29\00:08:54.57 And then Jesus says in verse 6, 00:08:54.58\00:08:56.66 Here what the unjust judge says, 00:08:56.67\00:09:00.71 and shall not God avenge his own elect 00:09:00.72\00:09:03.91 which crying to him day and night 00:09:03.92\00:09:05.98 though he bear long with them. 00:09:05.99\00:09:07.95 This lady had a need. When you and I recognize 00:09:07.96\00:09:13.25 our need, when you and I recognize our need, 00:09:13.26\00:09:17.83 it drives us to pray. 00:09:17.84\00:09:20.65 One of your friends is in automobile accident. 00:09:24.49\00:09:28.26 What is the first thing you do? 00:09:28.27\00:09:31.89 You pray. An atheist, an atheist, 00:09:31.90\00:09:37.34 one that does not even believe in God 00:09:37.35\00:09:39.31 is in a life and death situation and what is 00:09:39.32\00:09:41.70 the first thing they do? They pray. 00:09:41.71\00:09:44.66 A need compels us to pray, 00:09:44.67\00:09:49.86 whether we're a believer or not, 00:09:49.87\00:09:51.82 if we've a need it compel us to pray. 00:09:51.83\00:09:57.62 So in order to pray we must have a what? A need. 00:09:57.63\00:10:03.30 Let's look at this again in Matthew Chapter. 00:10:03.31\00:10:06.27 Well, before we go there I want to focus 00:10:06.28\00:10:07.70 one more part on this Luke 18:1 through 7. 00:10:07.71\00:10:12.13 Jesus is not comparing 00:10:12.14\00:10:14.86 God with the judge. 00:10:14.87\00:10:18.63 He is contrasting God with the judge. 00:10:18.64\00:10:23.59 He is not comparing the two, He is contrasting the two. 00:10:23.60\00:10:28.16 An unjust man that doesn't fear God 00:10:28.17\00:10:30.10 and doesn't regard man, or the unjust judge 00:10:30.11\00:10:32.73 doesn't fear God and doesn't regard man 00:10:32.74\00:10:35.11 wait until somebody annoys him enough then to help them. 00:10:35.12\00:10:38.97 But then he contrasts God by saying 00:10:38.98\00:10:42.57 won't he avenge them how? Speedily, that's right. 00:10:42.58\00:10:46.85 So let's go to Matthew Chapter 5 and verse 6. 00:10:46.86\00:10:50.80 This is our next reference. 00:10:50.81\00:10:52.38 We're turning to the left there. 00:10:52.39\00:10:54.95 Matthew Chapter 5 and verse 6 00:10:54.96\00:10:57.86 and we will go ahead and let Anida read this, 00:10:57.87\00:11:01.13 Matthew Chapter 5 and verse 6. 00:11:01.14\00:11:06.60 And this is a promise from Jesus 00:11:06.61\00:11:08.72 and when we see a promise from Jesus 00:11:08.73\00:11:10.86 what I've done here in my Bible, 00:11:10.87\00:11:12.42 I don't know if you can see that or not, 00:11:12.43\00:11:14.09 but right there in my Bible, I've put a P right beside 00:11:14.10\00:11:17.68 that because that's a promise for me. 00:11:17.69\00:11:19.51 And what does that say Anida. 00:11:19.52\00:11:22.45 "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst 00:11:22.46\00:11:24.79 after righteousness for they shall be filled." 00:11:24.80\00:11:29.85 You ever get so hungry for something, 00:11:29.86\00:11:31.31 you just can't wait for lunch. 00:11:31.32\00:11:33.68 Yeah, about every day, you know, 00:11:33.69\00:11:35.26 1 o'clock rolls around and we still got 30 minutes 00:11:35.27\00:11:37.33 and then lunch comes, Praise the Lord. 00:11:37.34\00:11:39.78 But the Bible says, "Blessed are they which do 00:11:39.79\00:11:42.87 hunger and thirst after righteousness." 00:11:42.88\00:11:46.97 Do those people have a need? Yes. 00:11:46.98\00:11:49.81 And what is the promise for those people? 00:11:49.82\00:11:53.79 They shall be filled. So the first part 00:11:53.80\00:11:56.84 of this Bible said, we're showing that 00:11:56.85\00:11:59.13 a need compels us to pray. 00:11:59.14\00:12:04.00 A need compels us to pray and that God 00:12:04.01\00:12:07.84 will fill that need. 00:12:07.85\00:12:12.49 Maybe even somebody in this room has a need. 00:12:12.50\00:12:17.43 Maybe you are here at the Lay Institute for Evangelism, 00:12:17.44\00:12:21.17 and you came and you had X amount of funds, 00:12:21.18\00:12:24.24 but those funds would not carry you all the way 00:12:24.25\00:12:26.44 through to the end of the course. 00:12:26.45\00:12:31.17 Your need compels you to what? 00:12:31.18\00:12:33.78 Pray. Pray. 00:12:33.79\00:12:35.68 Not only that, it should compel us 00:12:35.69\00:12:37.23 to action, shouldn't it? 00:12:37.24\00:12:40.83 Maybe you recognize that you have a struggle in your life. 00:12:40.84\00:12:46.17 You've been struggling with it for years 00:12:46.18\00:12:47.92 and you can't get passed it. 00:12:47.93\00:12:51.85 You have a what? A need. 00:12:51.86\00:12:55.31 And so what you're going to do? 00:12:55.32\00:12:56.71 Pray. You're going to pray. 00:12:56.72\00:12:59.57 So the first condition is that 00:12:59.58\00:13:02.26 you and I recognize we've a need. 00:13:02.27\00:13:04.33 That's why humility is so important, 00:13:04.34\00:13:08.10 because a proud arrogant person does not recognize 00:13:08.11\00:13:10.74 that they have the what? A need. 00:13:10.75\00:13:14.13 So when we recognize 00:13:14.14\00:13:15.21 we've a need, then we pray. 00:13:15.22\00:13:20.44 We're gonna go now to our next section. 00:13:20.45\00:13:23.97 We're gonna go to the section on forgiveness, 00:13:23.98\00:13:28.50 the section on forgiveness. 00:13:28.51\00:13:29.62 You see that in the upper right 00:13:29.63\00:13:30.85 of your screen there, forgiveness. 00:13:30.86\00:13:33.01 So our third prayer text is 00:13:33.02\00:13:35.78 Psalm 66 verse 18, 00:13:35.79\00:13:39.56 Psalm 66 and verse 18. 00:13:39.57\00:13:42.46 The Bible says here, Psalm 66 00:13:42.47\00:13:46.09 that's in the middle of the Old Testament, 00:13:46.10\00:13:48.42 well, you may end up in Isaiah if you just go to the middle, 00:13:48.43\00:13:51.61 but or Ezekiel, you want to turn to the left 00:13:51.62\00:13:53.79 from those books and we're in Psalm 66 00:13:53.80\00:13:57.93 and our reference is verse 18. 00:13:57.94\00:14:02.21 What does the Bible say there? 00:14:02.22\00:14:04.16 Why don't we go ahead and let Vanessa read that for us, 00:14:04.17\00:14:08.55 Psalm 66 verse 18. 00:14:08.56\00:14:13.54 "If I regard iniquity in my heart, 00:14:13.55\00:14:17.23 the Lord will not hear me." 00:14:17.24\00:14:20.89 What does the Bible say there? 00:14:20.90\00:14:23.52 What does it say? "If I regard what? 00:14:23.53\00:14:26.14 Iniquity. What is iniquity? Iniquity is sin. 00:14:26.15\00:14:29.45 If I regard, what is it mean to regard something? 00:14:29.46\00:14:33.46 To cherish, to hold it, to like it. 00:14:33.47\00:14:36.25 If I regard or cherish or enjoy iniquity which is sin, 00:14:36.26\00:14:42.08 what does the Bible say there? 00:14:42.09\00:14:44.54 The Lord cannot hear me, will not hear me. 00:14:44.55\00:14:50.46 So if you and I are clinging to something 00:14:50.47\00:14:54.59 that we know to be wrong and sinful. 00:14:54.60\00:14:59.24 Is it right for us to go to God and say, 00:14:59.25\00:15:02.09 please give me something else? 00:15:02.10\00:15:05.63 But the Bible says here that if we regard 00:15:05.64\00:15:07.51 or cherish iniquity or sin in our lives, 00:15:07.52\00:15:10.86 then God will not hear us, because what we've done 00:15:10.87\00:15:15.78 is we've put whatever it is we're cherishing, 00:15:15.79\00:15:19.33 whatever sinful thing that is, 00:15:19.34\00:15:20.94 we've actually put that above God, 00:15:20.95\00:15:25.55 and God is a very jealous God, isn't He? 00:15:25.56\00:15:28.05 He is not a tyrant, don't misunderstand that. 00:15:28.06\00:15:31.33 God is a God that wants what He deserves, 00:15:31.34\00:15:36.52 and that is the service of love. 00:15:36.53\00:15:39.43 So if you and I are cherishing iniquity 00:15:39.44\00:15:42.12 in our hearts maybe we're bitter, 00:15:42.13\00:15:46.90 maybe we're angry towards someone, 00:15:46.91\00:15:49.07 maybe we need to ask God to forgive us 00:15:53.29\00:15:56.16 before we ask God for anything else. 00:15:56.17\00:16:00.88 Let's go to our next reference here. 00:16:00.89\00:16:03.79 We're going to Isaiah 59 verses 1 and 2. 00:16:03.80\00:16:06.99 We're still in the same section on forgiveness. 00:16:07.00\00:16:10.58 We're still in the same section on forgiveness. 00:16:10.59\00:16:13.04 Isaiah 59 verses 1 and 2. 00:16:13.05\00:16:15.52 You can see that there on the graphic on your screen, 00:16:15.53\00:16:18.85 Isaiah 59 verses 1 and 2. 00:16:18.86\00:16:23.03 And Roberto, would you mind reading that for us, 00:16:23.04\00:16:26.36 Isaiah 59 verses 1 and 2, and Roberto, 00:16:26.37\00:16:29.73 his first language is not English, 00:16:29.74\00:16:31.56 so Roberto always says that he is focusing on 00:16:31.57\00:16:35.28 pronunciation while he is trying to look at you at home. 00:16:35.29\00:16:38.47 So he is looking at you while he is focusing 00:16:38.48\00:16:41.33 on pronunciation, so you watch him. 00:16:41.34\00:16:44.78 "Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, 00:16:44.79\00:16:48.90 that it cannot save nor his ear heavy, 00:16:48.91\00:16:53.71 that it cannot hear, but your iniquities 00:16:53.72\00:16:59.19 have separated you from your God, 00:16:59.20\00:17:02.74 and your sins have hidden his face from you, 00:17:02.75\00:17:06.49 so that he will not hear." Very nice. 00:17:06.50\00:17:12.16 Again a very heavy text in scripture, isn't it? 00:17:12.17\00:17:16.54 First of all the promise is made that the Lord's hand 00:17:16.55\00:17:19.02 is not shortened, that He cannot save, 00:17:19.03\00:17:22.17 nor His ear too heavy that He cannot hear, 00:17:22.18\00:17:25.51 so again nothing is impossible for God. 00:17:25.52\00:17:28.26 Matthew 19:26, "With men this is impossible 00:17:28.27\00:17:30.55 but with God nothing is impossible". 00:17:30.56\00:17:33.75 So the Lord's hand is not shortened that He can't save, 00:17:33.76\00:17:36.56 nor His ear too heavy that He can't hear. 00:17:36.57\00:17:39.36 Then there is this word but, no it's not but it's, 00:17:39.37\00:17:43.30 and your sins have hid His face from you that He what? 00:17:43.31\00:17:49.05 Will not hear. So again when you and I 00:17:49.06\00:17:54.71 cherish iniquity or sin in our lives. 00:17:54.72\00:17:58.67 What we're doing as we're putting that 00:18:01.12\00:18:02.69 in the place of God? 00:18:02.70\00:18:06.81 Now does Jesus want to deliver us from that? 00:18:06.82\00:18:10.27 He certainly does, doesn't He? 00:18:10.28\00:18:12.26 Does Jesus have the power to deliver us from that? 00:18:12.27\00:18:14.67 Yes. He certainly does. 00:18:14.68\00:18:16.88 Do you and I believe that He can deliver us from that? 00:18:16.89\00:18:20.59 That's, that's the crux, isn't it? 00:18:20.60\00:18:25.83 To actually believe that God can deliver you, 00:18:25.84\00:18:28.72 maybe, maybe you are addicted to something 00:18:28.73\00:18:30.78 that is destroying the temple of God, your body. 00:18:30.79\00:18:34.89 Maybe you have a destructive habit, 00:18:34.90\00:18:39.16 maybe you are just on the inside angry at someone, 00:18:39.17\00:18:44.53 and you like being angry. 00:18:44.54\00:18:48.39 You like hating that person. 00:18:48.40\00:18:52.11 Now this regarding iniquity in your heart, 00:18:52.12\00:18:55.33 this isn't talking about when you and I did 00:18:55.34\00:18:57.14 when we're actually struggling with the sin in our lives. 00:18:57.15\00:19:01.13 We're actually wrestling with God, 00:19:01.14\00:19:03.73 help me with this, I need your help with this, 00:19:03.74\00:19:05.95 I know this isn't right, I need you to help me. 00:19:05.96\00:19:08.41 God hears our prayer, doesn't He? 00:19:08.42\00:19:10.13 But when you and I say, aah, umm, Good morning, 00:19:10.14\00:19:13.76 it's good to see you at church today. 00:19:13.77\00:19:15.32 I cannot stand that low down dirty rotten beast. 00:19:15.33\00:19:19.89 We love to hate that person or we love to be angry, 00:19:19.90\00:19:25.43 or we love something that we know displeases God. 00:19:25.44\00:19:29.70 The Bible says that a double minded man 00:19:32.01\00:19:34.31 is unstable in all of his ways. 00:19:34.32\00:19:39.38 I don't wan to be double minded, do you? 00:19:39.39\00:19:41.63 Maybe it's time you and I ask God to just give us 00:19:41.64\00:19:44.04 that victory that's promised in Christ. 00:19:44.05\00:19:48.02 Just read it, it's in 1 Corinthians 15:57, 00:19:48.03\00:19:50.63 it says that, that we can have victory 00:19:50.64\00:19:53.90 through our Lord Jesus Christ. 00:19:53.91\00:19:55.95 Every one of us can have victory. 00:19:55.96\00:20:00.51 So the Bible says here that one of the conditions 00:20:00.52\00:20:04.55 for God hearing our prayer and answering it 00:20:04.56\00:20:10.06 is that we cannot regard or cherish sin 00:20:10.07\00:20:14.63 in our lives, is this clear? 00:20:14.64\00:20:17.22 Is it convicting? Sure it is. 00:20:17.23\00:20:20.79 God convicts us when we study His word, doesn't He? 00:20:20.80\00:20:23.51 Let's go to our next condition. 00:20:23.52\00:20:26.84 And we just talked about this a moment ago. 00:20:26.85\00:20:28.95 We're gonna go to our fifth text in the prayer study. 00:20:28.96\00:20:32.24 Our fifth text is Hebrews Chapter 11 and verse 6. 00:20:32.25\00:20:35.96 And we will go ahead and have Tim, 00:20:35.97\00:20:38.11 why don't you do that for us? 00:20:38.12\00:20:40.14 Tim will read that for us. 00:20:40.15\00:20:41.78 We're going to Hebrews Chapter 11 and verse 6. 00:20:41.79\00:20:46.14 Hebrews is in the New Testament. 00:20:46.15\00:20:48.18 Hebrews Chapter 11 pass a T section, is that right, Tim? 00:20:48.19\00:20:51.80 Yes. Okay, I'll get there, 00:20:51.81\00:20:52.87 you can go ahead if you like. Okay. 00:20:52.88\00:20:56.77 It says, "But without faith it is impossible 00:20:56.78\00:20:59.85 to please Him, for He that cometh to God, 00:20:59.86\00:21:04.42 must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder 00:21:04.43\00:21:07.75 of them that diligently seek him." 00:21:07.76\00:21:11.08 The Bible says there without faith it is what? 00:21:11.09\00:21:15.99 Impossible to please Him. 00:21:16.00\00:21:18.06 And then it's say there very interestingly, 00:21:18.07\00:21:20.24 for He that cometh to God, must believe that He is. 00:21:20.25\00:21:25.27 How else would you come to God 00:21:25.28\00:21:26.47 if you didn't believe He existed? How else? 00:21:26.48\00:21:30.92 You remember one of the memory, 00:21:30.93\00:21:32.51 the scripture memorizations that we're doing here 00:21:32.52\00:21:35.13 at the Lay Institute for Evangelism 00:21:35.14\00:21:37.74 was all that call upon the name of the Lord will be what? 00:21:37.75\00:21:41.64 Saved. Saved. 00:21:41.65\00:21:42.62 How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not? 00:21:42.63\00:21:45.62 Believed. Believed. 00:21:45.63\00:21:47.30 And the Bible says right here, 00:21:47.31\00:21:49.19 but without faith it is impossible to believe Him 00:21:49.20\00:21:51.41 for He that cometh to God must believe that He is 00:21:51.42\00:21:55.77 and that He is a rewarder of them that do what? 00:21:55.78\00:22:01.45 Diligently seek Him. 00:22:01.46\00:22:04.04 So faith, we must have faith even to pray to God, 00:22:04.05\00:22:08.80 because we've to believe that God exists 00:22:08.81\00:22:12.05 in order to pray to Him. Do you see that? 00:22:12.06\00:22:15.08 So is faith necessary to have our prayers answered? 00:22:15.09\00:22:18.81 Yes. Absolutely, it is, isn't it? 00:22:18.82\00:22:21.71 And one of the most awesome thing you can do is 00:22:21.72\00:22:23.76 you can write down your prayer requests 00:22:23.77\00:22:26.07 and then when God answers those, 00:22:26.08\00:22:27.83 write down the date that He answered them. 00:22:27.84\00:22:29.73 You know, I shared with you 00:22:29.74\00:22:32.02 that I had written in my Bible, 00:22:32.03\00:22:35.22 I had prayed a prayer for my son, Jason, 00:22:35.23\00:22:37.73 then I prayed it and I actually wrote in my Bible 00:22:37.74\00:22:41.12 here in Psalm 37, it says, 00:22:41.13\00:22:43.16 I pray and claim this for Jason 6/8/2002, 00:22:43.17\00:22:47.53 answered on 6/15/2002. 00:22:47.54\00:22:51.77 So I wrote that I had prayed a prayer and claim 00:22:51.78\00:22:54.42 the promise from God and then God answered 00:22:54.43\00:22:56.57 that prayer seven days later, it's pretty cool. 00:22:56.58\00:22:58.73 Robert, I prayed that prayer on Sabbath 00:22:58.74\00:23:00.95 and then the next Sabbath God gave me the answer 00:23:00.96\00:23:03.89 to my prayer, so it's very powerful. 00:23:03.90\00:23:07.07 So we must believe that God is a rewarder 00:23:07.08\00:23:09.67 of those that diligently seek Him. 00:23:09.68\00:23:11.80 So you are struggling with something, 00:23:11.81\00:23:13.35 you are not cherishing the sin, 00:23:13.36\00:23:14.51 you are struggling with it. 00:23:14.52\00:23:16.27 And you go to God and you ask God to help you, 00:23:16.28\00:23:19.38 because you can't do with yourself. 00:23:19.39\00:23:21.34 That requires faith, that requires faith, 00:23:21.35\00:23:24.42 and will God give you the victory? 00:23:24.43\00:23:26.46 Oh, yeah, He certainly will. 00:23:26.47\00:23:27.86 Let's go to our next reference, 00:23:27.87\00:23:29.65 Mark the 11th Chapter verse 24. 00:23:29.66\00:23:33.62 Mark Chapter 11 and verse 24. 00:23:33.63\00:23:36.75 We're still on the condition of faith here. 00:23:36.76\00:23:40.22 Mark, Matthew, Mark, 00:23:40.23\00:23:42.14 the second book of the New Testament, 00:23:42.15\00:23:43.92 Mark Chapter 11 00:23:43.93\00:23:46.58 and verse 24. 00:23:46.59\00:23:51.25 And we will go ahead and let our brother 00:23:51.26\00:23:53.67 Bill read this for us. 00:23:53.68\00:23:55.69 So Bill just put that microphone under your chin, 00:23:55.70\00:23:57.57 not in front of your mouth but under that chin. 00:23:57.58\00:24:00.07 The Bible says Mark 11:24. "Therefore I say to you, 00:24:00.08\00:24:04.38 "whatever things you ask when you pray, 00:24:04.39\00:24:06.89 "believe that you receive them, 00:24:06.90\00:24:08.74 and you will have them." 00:24:08.75\00:24:10.74 So what's the condition there in that verse? 00:24:10.75\00:24:15.17 To believe, it's very plain, 00:24:15.18\00:24:17.83 isn't it, to believe. 00:24:17.84\00:24:21.25 It's says, therefore, I saying to you, 00:24:21.26\00:24:22.84 whatsoever things you desire when you pray 00:24:22.85\00:24:26.11 believe that you will receive them and what's the promise? 00:24:26.12\00:24:30.11 And you will have them. 00:24:30.12\00:24:31.40 Well, we're gonna get to another reference later on 00:24:31.41\00:24:34.62 in this study that will show why some of our prayers 00:24:34.63\00:24:37.76 that we sincerely believe in God, 00:24:37.77\00:24:40.88 we sincerely are seeking to rid our lives of sin 00:24:40.89\00:24:44.32 through God's power. 00:24:44.33\00:24:45.65 We're sincerely, petitioning the throne of heaven, 00:24:45.66\00:24:49.00 we prayed our way through the sanctuary 00:24:49.01\00:24:51.02 and there we're in the presence of God. 00:24:51.03\00:24:52.91 Why isn't God answering our prayer 00:24:52.92\00:24:54.30 the way we want Him to answer? 00:24:54.31\00:24:56.70 That's different from God answering the prayer 00:24:56.71\00:24:59.67 that you pray in the way that He knows is best, isn't it? 00:24:59.68\00:25:03.82 So here again the condition in 00:25:03.83\00:25:06.93 Mark Chapter 11 verse 24 is what? 00:25:06.94\00:25:10.71 Believe or faith, that's absolutely right, 00:25:10.72\00:25:14.05 believe or faith, well, we do not have to turn 00:25:14.06\00:25:16.45 very far to go to our next reference. 00:25:16.46\00:25:19.29 It's right there in Mark 11 verse 25 and 26. 00:25:19.30\00:25:24.23 Now this is probably one of the most 00:25:24.24\00:25:26.69 convicting verses for me. 00:25:26.70\00:25:29.12 Mark Chapter 11 verses 25 and 26. 00:25:29.13\00:25:32.46 There is a condition of God answering our prayers 00:25:32.47\00:25:36.92 on our willingness to forgive someone else. 00:25:36.93\00:25:42.49 There is a condition of God hearing and answering 00:25:42.50\00:25:45.75 our prayers on our willingness to forgive someone else. 00:25:45.76\00:25:51.14 So we will let Darlene go ahead and read this, 00:25:51.15\00:25:53.71 Mark Chapter 11, we're all there verses 25 and 26. 00:25:53.72\00:25:58.96 "And whenever you stand praying, 00:25:58.97\00:26:01.07 "if you have anything against anybody, 00:26:01.08\00:26:03.43 "forgive him, that your Father in heaven 00:26:03.44\00:26:06.11 may also forgive you in your trespasses" 00:26:06.12\00:26:09.42 But if you do not forgive neither with, 00:26:09.43\00:26:11.61 neither will your Father in Heaven 00:26:11.62\00:26:13.75 forgive your trespasses. 00:26:13.76\00:26:16.68 Isn't that another one of those heavy tasks? 00:26:16.69\00:26:19.93 It says when you stand praying forgive, 00:26:19.94\00:26:24.58 if you have ought against any that your Father also 00:26:24.59\00:26:29.92 which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. 00:26:29.93\00:26:34.45 That verse right there tells us that Jesus 00:26:34.46\00:26:38.42 that the Father will only forgive us to the extent 00:26:38.43\00:26:43.88 and measure that we're willing to forgive other people. 00:26:43.89\00:26:47.09 You've been hurt by someone in your life. 00:26:50.25\00:26:55.52 You think about that particular individual 00:26:55.53\00:26:57.41 and you just think aah! The Bible says here 00:26:57.42\00:27:03.40 that when we pray that we need to forgive those people 00:27:03.41\00:27:08.72 that we've ought against. 00:27:08.73\00:27:12.76 Because it says there in verse 25, 00:27:12.77\00:27:15.36 that your Father also which is in heaven 00:27:15.37\00:27:21.31 may forgive you your trespasses. 00:27:21.32\00:27:25.40 But you don't understand what that person 00:27:29.05\00:27:31.30 did to me, Scott. 00:27:31.31\00:27:32.80 You don't understand what I went through. 00:27:32.81\00:27:35.62 You don't understand what I put up with. 00:27:35.63\00:27:38.63 You just don't understand but does God? 00:27:38.64\00:27:43.40 He certainly does. And wasn't it Jesus? 00:27:43.41\00:27:47.82 When they were putting the nails into His hands, 00:27:47.83\00:27:52.29 that said, Father please forgive them, 00:27:52.30\00:27:55.24 because they don't know what they are doing. 00:27:55.25\00:27:59.65 So the Father is willing to forgive us. 00:27:59.66\00:28:05.63 Well, the Father wants to forgive us of everything. 00:28:05.64\00:28:08.42 But He can only go as far as we're 00:28:08.43\00:28:10.12 willing to forgive others, can't He? 00:28:10.13\00:28:12.12 Is that what that text says? 00:28:12.13\00:28:13.44 I mean, am I taken this out of context, 00:28:13.45\00:28:16.37 it's exactly what it says. 00:28:16.38\00:28:18.39 Then verse 26, "But if you do not forgive 00:28:18.40\00:28:24.37 "neither will your Father which is in heaven, 00:28:24.38\00:28:27.62 forgive your trespasses." 00:28:27.63\00:28:32.38 It simply can't be any clearer. 00:28:32.39\00:28:35.87 Maybe it's time for us to make some phone calls. 00:28:35.88\00:28:40.73 Maybe we pray in the morning 00:28:45.24\00:28:47.21 and it feels as if the thought that we're praying 00:28:47.22\00:28:50.14 or the words that we're saying are bouncing right off 00:28:50.15\00:28:52.31 of the ceiling and hitting us right back on the lips 00:28:52.32\00:28:54.72 where the thought and the words came from. 00:28:54.73\00:28:56.83 Maybe that's because we're cherishing. 00:29:00.18\00:29:02.20 Something that somebody has done to us 00:29:05.54\00:29:07.48 and we cherish the emotion that created in us. 00:29:07.49\00:29:13.47 Didn't Jesus say He came to give us peace? 00:29:13.48\00:29:19.39 But if you do not forgive, Mark 11:26, 00:29:19.40\00:29:22.47 neither will your Father which is in heaven, 00:29:22.48\00:29:24.67 forgive you your trespasses. 00:29:24.68\00:29:27.84 So we see there Mark 11:25 and 26, 00:29:27.85\00:29:31.20 that we must forgive others 00:29:31.21\00:29:33.16 in order for our prayer to be heard. 00:29:33.17\00:29:36.25 And we must forgive others in order for God to forgive us. 00:29:36.26\00:29:40.80 Let's go to our next reference in this section. 00:29:40.81\00:29:43.20 Matthew Chapter 6 and verse 12, 00:29:43.21\00:29:45.74 so you turn into the left. 00:29:45.75\00:29:48.41 Matthew Chapter 6 and verse 12. 00:29:48.42\00:29:51.94 Matthew Chapter 6 and verse 12, 00:29:51.95\00:29:53.57 and we will let Ms. Gloria read that for us, 00:29:53.58\00:29:57.82 Matthew Chapter 6 and verse 12. 00:29:57.83\00:30:01.67 Now this is a prayer that is very familiar to us. 00:30:01.68\00:30:04.38 Jesus is teaching us how to pray. 00:30:04.39\00:30:06.51 This is the Lord's Prayer and Jesus says 00:30:06.52\00:30:09.13 something very interesting 00:30:09.14\00:30:10.56 in the middle of the Lord's Prayer. 00:30:10.57\00:30:12.14 Matthew Chapter 6 and verse 12, Ms. Gloria. 00:30:12.15\00:30:15.90 You want to pick up that microphone there? 00:30:15.91\00:30:19.16 That will help us all, we able to hear you a lot better. 00:30:19.17\00:30:25.02 "And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors." 00:30:25.03\00:30:31.02 Jesus taught us to pray Father, 00:30:31.03\00:30:34.80 forgive us to the extent 00:30:34.81\00:30:38.24 that we will forgive others. 00:30:38.25\00:30:41.25 Isn't that what He says there? 00:30:41.26\00:30:42.61 Isn't it hard sometimes to forgive somebody 00:30:45.76\00:30:48.67 that has just done you so wrong? 00:30:48.68\00:30:51.04 Yet the more of Christ that lives in us, 00:30:54.47\00:30:59.11 the more of His love we will be willing to show, 00:30:59.12\00:31:03.75 and the more we will be willing to say 00:31:03.76\00:31:05.22 just like He did. In the evening. 00:36:03.25\00:36:07.12 The day begins, the new day begins in the evening. 00:36:07.13\00:36:10.75 We got that from Genesis. 00:36:10.76\00:36:12.12 The evening and the morning with the first day, 00:36:12.13\00:36:14.03 evening and the morning with the second day, 00:36:14.04\00:36:15.76 evening and the morning with the third day, 00:36:15.77\00:36:17.36 and David here just iterates that in a different way 00:36:17.37\00:36:20.22 when he is talking about prayer and David says, 00:36:20.23\00:36:22.93 evening when the day begins, morning when I wake up, 00:36:22.94\00:36:26.13 and noon in the middle of the day, 00:36:26.14\00:36:28.05 I cry unto the Lord. 00:36:28.06\00:36:31.82 Wasn't it Daniel, in the Book of Daniel 00:36:31.83\00:36:34.77 that pray to the Lord three times a day 00:36:34.78\00:36:37.37 out of his window, but then he got in trouble for that. 00:36:37.38\00:36:40.93 You may get in trouble with the world 00:36:40.94\00:36:42.27 for praying too much. 00:36:42.28\00:36:44.11 But you don't get in trouble with the Lord 00:36:44.12\00:36:45.46 for praying too much, because the Lord saved 00:36:45.47\00:36:47.46 him from the lions, didn't He? Very nice. 00:36:47.47\00:36:50.36 So the Bible tells us that the effectual fervent prayers, 00:36:50.37\00:36:54.06 so we must persevere in our prayers. 00:36:54.07\00:36:58.84 We will go to our next reference which is 00:36:58.85\00:37:01.35 Philippians Chapter 4 and verse 6. 00:37:01.36\00:37:04.31 What is it that we tell, that we can tell God? 00:37:04.32\00:37:09.01 What are the things that we can share with God 00:37:09.02\00:37:11.83 and Philippians Chapter 4 verse 6 00:37:11.84\00:37:13.84 is going to help us understand that. 00:37:13.85\00:37:16.77 Philippians, of course, is in the New Testament, 00:37:16.78\00:37:18.79 you go pass the gospels, pass Romans, 00:37:18.80\00:37:21.54 pass Corinthians, pass go eat popcorn, 00:37:21.55\00:37:25.55 Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 00:37:25.56\00:37:28.68 and we're going, well, I guess you don't go pass 00:37:28.69\00:37:31.55 Philippians because that's where we're going. 00:37:31.56\00:37:33.32 Philippians Chapter 4, uh, put your breaks on, 00:37:33.33\00:37:36.17 Philippians Chapter 4 and verse 6. 00:37:36.18\00:37:40.38 And we will go to those song for that. 00:37:40.39\00:37:42.85 Philippians Chapter 4 and verse 6, 00:37:42.86\00:37:45.59 what does that say Dilzon, "Be careful for nothing 00:37:45.60\00:37:51.30 but in every thing by prayer and supplication 00:37:51.31\00:37:53.61 with thanksgiving let your requests 00:37:53.62\00:37:56.37 be made known unto God." 00:37:56.38\00:37:58.46 Now I want you to notice something 00:37:58.47\00:37:59.65 that happen to Dilzon there. 00:37:59.66\00:38:01.33 You may loose your place when you are making 00:38:01.34\00:38:03.92 eye contact while you read. 00:38:03.93\00:38:05.30 This is a learning moment for us. 00:38:05.31\00:38:07.06 You may lose eye contact while you are looking up, 00:38:07.07\00:38:09.71 or you may loose your place while you are 00:38:09.72\00:38:11.42 looking up to make eye contact. 00:38:11.43\00:38:12.85 And he did exactly what he was trying to do. 00:38:12.86\00:38:15.24 You don't have to apologize, you don't have to say, uh, 00:38:15.25\00:38:17.38 I lost my place. No. 00:40:54.11\00:40:55.69 Did he give it to me a lot of the time? Yes. 00:40:55.70\00:40:58.81 Or I would go to mom, mom I need money for so and so. 00:40:58.82\00:41:02.76 I was used to asking my parents for money. 00:41:02.77\00:41:06.66 It was very easy to go to my parents 00:41:06.67\00:41:08.90 and ask them for money. 00:41:08.91\00:41:10.13 Now I would basically like every cupboard 00:41:10.14\00:41:14.96 in my house get bared before I call my parents 00:41:14.97\00:41:17.92 and asked them for money. 00:41:17.93\00:41:19.08 Now that doesn't happen any more. 00:41:19.09\00:41:20.75 It used to happen, but Lord's been 00:41:20.76\00:41:22.50 very gracious to us in our home. 00:41:22.51\00:41:25.60 But notice the Bible says here that we can ask 00:41:25.61\00:41:30.09 God for anything, but the reason you and I 00:41:30.10\00:41:33.66 are not petitioning the throne of God 00:41:33.67\00:41:35.65 with fervent prayer is because 00:41:35.66\00:41:39.58 when we're not used to ask Him for things. 00:41:39.59\00:41:42.50 It's not easy for me to go to my parents 00:41:42.51\00:41:44.10 and ask them for money now, because I'm out of that habit. 00:41:44.11\00:41:48.68 But God wants to be our God. 00:41:48.69\00:41:51.68 He wants to be our Heavenly Father. 00:41:51.69\00:41:54.78 He wants to us to come to Him, 00:41:54.79\00:41:56.81 don't be careful in any of it, 00:41:56.82\00:41:58.42 just say God would you provide this for me. 00:41:58.43\00:42:01.47 I believe you will do it. Thank you for doing it. 00:42:01.48\00:42:05.05 And I am going to put it in your hands. 00:42:05.06\00:42:06.31 If you know it's best for me, I will take it. 00:42:06.32\00:42:08.99 Otherwise, I will leave it. 00:42:09.00\00:42:11.32 We see this principle here in Matthew Chapter 4, 00:42:11.33\00:42:15.88 isn't that our next reference there, no. 00:42:15.89\00:42:17.83 James Chapter 4 verse 3. 00:42:17.84\00:42:19.72 James Chapter 4, so we're in Philippians, 00:42:19.73\00:42:22.00 we're turning to James Chapter 4 and verse 3. 00:42:22.01\00:42:26.32 So James we've already been there once 00:42:26.33\00:42:28.81 and Danielle taught us how to get that very easily, 00:42:28.82\00:42:32.04 James Chapter 4 verse 3. 00:42:32.05\00:42:36.53 Oh, let's start with verse 2, verses 2 and 3. 00:42:36.54\00:42:39.34 So Jessica, can you read that for us? 00:42:39.35\00:42:42.03 James Chapter 4 verses 2 and 3, 00:42:42.04\00:42:45.97 and make sure we've eye contact with you. 00:42:45.98\00:42:49.91 "You want what you don't have, 00:42:49.92\00:42:51.73 "so you scheme and kill to get it. 00:42:51.74\00:42:54.44 "You are jealous for what others have, 00:42:54.45\00:42:57.17 "and you can't possess it, so you fight and quarrel 00:42:57.18\00:43:01.67 "to take it away from them. 00:43:01.68\00:43:04.48 "And yet the reason you don't have what you want 00:43:04.49\00:43:07.25 "is that you don't ask God for it. 00:43:07.26\00:43:11.03 "And even when you do ask, you don't get it 00:43:11.04\00:43:13.57 "because your whole motive is wrong. 00:43:13.58\00:43:16.45 You want only what will give you pleasure." 00:43:16.46\00:43:21.58 Isn't that powerful? 00:43:21.59\00:43:22.68 You have not the Old King James version said, 00:43:22.69\00:43:26.48 because you ask not and then it says, 00:43:26.49\00:43:30.46 you ask and receive not because you ask amiss 00:43:30.47\00:43:36.34 or you ask according to her version, 00:43:36.35\00:43:38.70 you ask for the wrong motive that you may consume it 00:43:38.71\00:43:43.52 upon your own pleasure. 00:43:43.53\00:43:46.14 What version were you reading from there? 00:43:46.15\00:43:48.82 In out the New Living Translation. 00:43:48.83\00:43:51.63 It said, you do not get anything because 00:43:51.64\00:43:54.00 you don't ask for and then when you do ask for, 00:43:54.01\00:43:56.33 you ask for the wrong motivation. 00:43:56.34\00:43:59.39 Oh, Lord, please help me to get a million dollars. 00:43:59.40\00:44:04.58 I've always wanted to go to school in helicopter. 00:44:04.59\00:44:09.38 Means, you ever have those kind of dreams or visions. 00:44:09.39\00:44:11.64 Wouldn't it be cool if I didn't have to rush 00:44:11.65\00:44:14.59 through breakfast, so that my helicopter 00:44:14.60\00:44:16.62 could just take me to school that fast. 00:44:16.63\00:44:18.68 You know, I used to, 00:44:18.69\00:44:19.66 I used to pray for those kind of things. 00:44:19.67\00:44:23.04 The Lord knew I didn't need it because 00:44:23.05\00:44:24.64 I still don't have it, so anyway. 00:44:24.65\00:44:27.91 The Bible says here that we do not have things, 00:44:27.92\00:44:31.54 because we ask for it for the wrong reason. 00:44:31.55\00:44:34.83 God is the one that reads our heart, 00:44:34.84\00:44:36.85 He knows our motives, and He is the one 00:44:36.86\00:44:39.37 that will decide whether we get it or not, 00:44:39.38\00:44:42.20 but our motive is the key to them. 00:44:42.21\00:44:44.49 Let's go to our next section here 00:44:44.50\00:44:48.57 "Unselfish asking." 00:44:48.58\00:44:51.07 Isn't that what we just notice there in 00:44:51.08\00:44:52.99 James Chapter 4 verse 3 that we asked for the wrong reason? 00:44:53.00\00:44:56.33 We're gonna see this again in unselfish asking. 00:44:56.34\00:45:00.54 We just did, didn't we? 00:45:00.55\00:45:01.78 That's the same--no, James 4:3. 00:45:01.79\00:45:04.79 So there we go, now we will go 00:45:04.80\00:45:05.83 to our next text which is Matthew 7 verse 7. 00:45:05.84\00:45:08.80 We did that already, didn't we? 00:45:08.81\00:45:10.33 No. No we didn't. 00:45:10.34\00:45:11.51 Okay, praise the Lord, we're all caught up with each other. 00:45:11.52\00:45:13.69 Let's go to Matthew Chapter 7 and verse 7. 00:45:13.70\00:45:18.04 And I love this principle here. 00:45:18.05\00:45:19.74 It's very plain, it's very easy, 00:45:19.75\00:45:21.51 it's very simple, Matthew Chapter 7 verse 7. 00:45:21.52\00:45:25.13 And what does scripture say there, Tim? 00:45:25.14\00:45:29.01 It says "Ask and it shall be given to you, 00:45:29.02\00:45:32.61 seek and you shall find, 00:45:32.62\00:45:34.70 knock and it shall be open on to you." 00:45:34.71\00:45:37.83 So the Bible tells us simply to do what? 00:45:37.84\00:45:40.66 Ask. Ask to do what? 00:45:40.67\00:45:42.93 Ask. Ask. 00:45:42.94\00:45:44.28 Why don't we receive things when we ask for them? 00:45:44.29\00:45:48.76 We ask for the wrong motive. 00:45:48.77\00:45:51.85 So we can ask all day long for that red Porsche 00:45:51.86\00:45:55.16 that has tan interior or a helicopter, 00:45:55.17\00:45:59.56 that's right, but if it's not for our best interest, 00:45:59.57\00:46:04.75 will God give it to us? No. 00:46:04.76\00:46:07.43 God is not a pawn in our hands. 00:46:07.44\00:46:12.08 You and I cannot go to the Bible and demand 00:46:12.09\00:46:15.40 that God do something, because God will give to us 00:46:15.41\00:46:21.37 what He knows is best for us. 00:46:21.38\00:46:23.25 But God wants to be made. 00:46:23.26\00:46:25.77 Well, God knows that He is our Heavenly Father. 00:46:25.78\00:46:28.22 But you and I need to recognize Him 00:46:28.23\00:46:30.60 as our Heavenly Father. 00:46:30.61\00:46:32.55 And so we go to Him and it maybe difficult. 00:46:32.56\00:46:35.02 Some of us maybe physicians. 00:46:35.03\00:46:36.93 We may have a job that allows us 00:46:36.94\00:46:39.91 to have anything we want. 00:46:39.92\00:46:43.95 Yet we still must be dependent on Jesus, mustn't we? 00:46:43.96\00:46:49.89 Some of us may own a very successful business 00:46:49.90\00:46:53.87 and we maybe able to get anything we want, 00:46:53.88\00:46:58.16 yet who is that we've to depend on? 00:46:58.17\00:47:01.19 Jesus, because who gave us 00:47:01.20\00:47:02.89 that ability to get that wealth. 00:47:02.90\00:47:05.69 Jesus did, that's absolutely right. 00:47:05.70\00:47:08.40 So here we're. We're in Matthew 7:7, 00:47:08.41\00:47:10.84 the principle is ask. 00:47:10.85\00:47:13.66 But we must ask for an unselfish purpose, 00:47:13.67\00:47:19.36 an unselfish purpose. 00:47:19.37\00:47:21.07 Let's go now, let's go to our next reference 00:47:21.08\00:47:24.49 which is actually our last reference. 00:47:24.50\00:47:27.60 We're going now to 1st John Chapter 5 verses 14 and 15, 00:47:27.61\00:47:33.57 1st John Chapter 5 verses 14 and 15, 00:47:33.58\00:47:36.51 and we're going to notice that 00:47:36.52\00:47:37.86 we must ask according to God's will. 00:47:37.87\00:47:41.67 So we're going now to Shalida. 00:47:41.68\00:47:43.61 Shalida will read for us, 1st John, 00:47:43.62\00:47:45.65 but Shalida I need you to help me get there. 00:47:45.66\00:47:48.23 I have closed my Bible 00:47:48.24\00:47:49.37 and I just have no clue how to get there. 00:47:49.38\00:47:53.32 You go to the last book which is Revelation. 00:47:53.33\00:47:54.97 Okay, Revelation. Got I, I'm in Revelation 13. 00:47:54.98\00:47:57.78 Go to the left. To the left. 00:47:57.79\00:48:00.65 Pass Jude. Pass Jude. 00:48:00.66\00:48:02.52 You see 3rd John. 00:48:02.53\00:48:04.98 Jude is a small book, isn't it? 00:48:04.99\00:48:06.37 Yes, it is. Okay, I just passed, 00:48:06.38\00:48:08.22 I am in 3rd John. Second John. 00:48:08.23\00:48:10.79 I am in second. 00:48:10.80\00:48:12.18 And you should see 1st John Chapter 5 on this page. 00:48:12.19\00:48:15.04 I do, I do 1st John Chapter 5 verses, 00:48:15.05\00:48:20.01 what verse did you say? Fourteen and fifteen. 00:48:20.02\00:48:22.46 Fourteen and fifteen, all right. 00:48:22.47\00:48:25.60 "And this is the confidence that we've in Him, 00:48:25.61\00:48:28.54 that if we ask anything according to his will, 00:48:28.55\00:48:31.52 he heareth us." And what's the condition 00:48:31.53\00:48:34.13 for Him to hear us? Ask according to His will. 00:48:34.14\00:48:37.00 What does that mean we must be willing to do, Shalida? 00:48:37.01\00:48:41.18 I'm sorry. What does that mean 00:48:41.19\00:48:42.39 that we must be willing to do? 00:48:42.40\00:48:43.72 If we ask according to God's will then we must be what? 00:48:43.73\00:48:49.04 We must be willing to accept His answer to our prayer, 00:48:49.05\00:48:53.94 is that right? Yes. 00:48:53.95\00:48:55.73 Okay, keep reading. 00:48:55.74\00:48:57.37 "And if we know that he hear us, 00:48:57.38\00:48:59.28 whatsoever we ask, we know that we've 00:48:59.29\00:49:01.86 the petitions that we desired of him." 00:49:01.87\00:49:05.71 So the Bible says there 1st John 5:14, 00:49:05.72\00:49:09.33 this is the confidence that we've in Him 00:49:09.34\00:49:14.05 that if we ask anything according to His will, 00:49:14.06\00:49:18.68 He does what? He hears us. 00:49:18.69\00:49:21.84 So for the individual that got little uptight 00:49:21.85\00:49:25.49 when we were over there in Isaiah 59 verses 1 and 2, 00:49:25.50\00:49:29.05 where it says that God will not hear us. 00:49:29.06\00:49:33.07 For the person that got uptight there, it says here. 00:49:33.08\00:49:36.95 If we ask anything according to His will, 00:49:36.96\00:49:39.51 so let's suppose that you are a sinner, 00:49:39.52\00:49:42.39 you are living like a Hagen. 00:49:42.40\00:49:44.24 You have absolutely no interest in God 00:49:44.25\00:49:46.56 and all the sudden a tragedy happens in your life, 00:49:46.57\00:49:49.88 and then you begin to pray. 00:49:49.89\00:49:52.62 Is it God's will that you pray to Him. 00:49:52.63\00:49:55.58 So will He hear you? Absolutely! 00:49:55.59\00:49:59.12 So when we pray something according to His will. 00:49:59.13\00:50:02.00 These are not words that are attached 00:50:02.01\00:50:05.48 to the end of a prayer. 00:50:05.49\00:50:08.88 These are not words that are attached 00:50:08.89\00:50:11.01 according to your will, amen. 00:50:11.02\00:50:12.96 These are not words that are attached 00:50:12.97\00:50:14.58 to the end of a prayer. 00:50:14.59\00:50:16.30 These are words that we live by. 00:50:16.31\00:50:22.30 And the only way to have eternal life is, 00:50:22.31\00:50:25.80 well, it's right there in 1st John 5 verse 11, 00:50:25.81\00:50:28.67 it says, and this is the record that God has given 00:50:28.68\00:50:32.66 to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 00:50:32.67\00:50:37.16 He that hath the Son, hath life. 00:50:37.17\00:50:39.93 And he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 00:50:39.94\00:50:44.74 So the only way to have life is to have 00:50:44.75\00:50:47.40 the word of life or Jesus living in us. 00:50:47.41\00:50:50.72 So when we pray according to God's will, 00:50:50.73\00:50:53.20 you and I--Now this, it's not a book of magic, 00:50:53.21\00:50:56.04 don't misunderstand, but we can go through here 00:50:56.05\00:50:58.71 and we can find promises and we can claim those promises. 00:50:58.72\00:51:03.43 Let's go to our promise right now. 00:51:03.44\00:51:05.21 Maybe we were angry with someone, 00:51:05.22\00:51:08.09 maybe we just don't see how God is going to get us 00:51:08.10\00:51:11.08 through this financial situation that we are in. 00:51:11.09\00:51:14.78 Let's go to Philippians Chapter 4, 00:51:14.79\00:51:17.59 Philippians Chapter 4 and verse 19. 00:51:17.60\00:51:22.12 We're struggling, we're struggling financially. 00:51:22.13\00:51:24.74 We don't know how are we going to make it. 00:51:24.75\00:51:26.44 We don't know how our bills are going to be paid, 00:51:26.45\00:51:29.06 and we're praying. 00:51:29.07\00:51:30.67 And now we're going to pray a prayer 00:51:30.68\00:51:32.50 that is according to God's will, 00:51:32.51\00:51:34.57 because God has said it. 00:51:34.58\00:51:38.44 If God says it then we can pray it 00:51:38.45\00:51:40.52 and we will know that it is according to God's will. 00:51:40.53\00:51:42.83 So Anida, can you read for us 00:51:42.84\00:51:44.56 Philippians Chapter 4 and verse 19 00:51:44.57\00:51:50.55 Philippians Chapter 4 and verse 19. 00:51:50.56\00:51:55.05 "But my God shall surely supply all your need, 00:51:55.06\00:51:58.05 according to his riches in glory by Jesus Christ." 00:51:58.06\00:52:02.57 So if we go to God and we say God 00:52:02.58\00:52:06.34 you've already promised me this. 00:52:06.35\00:52:09.72 You've already promised this to be a reality for me. 00:52:09.73\00:52:12.97 I'm going through foreclosure on my house. 00:52:12.98\00:52:15.50 I lost my jobs six months ago. 00:52:15.51\00:52:19.18 My wife hasn't worked, because she has been at home 00:52:19.19\00:52:21.74 with our kids, but you have promised me in 00:52:21.75\00:52:25.40 Philippians 4:19, you've said to me, 00:52:25.41\00:52:29.32 my God shall supply all of my need 00:52:29.33\00:52:32.81 according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. 00:52:32.82\00:52:37.50 Is it God's will to supply all of your needs? 00:52:37.51\00:52:42.56 Absolutely. Now God in His ultimate, 00:52:42.57\00:52:46.74 ultimate vision of things. 00:52:46.75\00:52:50.12 God knows whether or not, 00:52:50.13\00:52:53.48 it is for our best interest that we keep our house. 00:52:53.49\00:52:59.32 God knows whether or not it's for a best interest, 00:52:59.33\00:53:02.24 maybe our money was creating idols 00:53:02.25\00:53:06.05 that we loved more than God. 00:53:06.06\00:53:10.33 Maybe our job gave us a false sense of security 00:53:10.34\00:53:14.76 rather than us depending on Jesus. 00:53:14.77\00:53:19.67 We can go to the word of God. 00:53:19.68\00:53:21.56 Turn to 2nd Peter, turn to 2nd Peter. 00:53:21.57\00:53:25.39 I want you to see this, 00:53:25.40\00:53:26.47 2nd Peter Chapter 1 and verse 4, 00:53:26.48\00:53:30.62 2nd Peter, the first Chapter and the fourth verse. 00:53:30.63\00:53:36.27 What we're doing here is we're praying things 00:53:36.28\00:53:38.24 according to God's will 00:53:38.25\00:53:39.74 and notice what the Bible says here. 00:53:39.75\00:53:41.31 We will go ahead and let Tom read this for us. 00:53:41.32\00:53:44.23 Second Peter Chapter one and verse four. 00:53:44.24\00:53:48.08 Speaking about promises, so I'm going to interrupt you 00:53:48.09\00:53:50.26 in this Tom, so just be prepared for that, okay. 00:53:50.27\00:53:53.76 "By which have been given to us exceedingly 00:53:53.77\00:53:57.41 great and precious promises" 00:53:57.42\00:54:00.35 You want me to interrupt you right now I'll do it. 00:54:00.36\00:54:02.29 Okay, that's a good time, Tom say, interrupt me now. 00:54:02.30\00:54:04.90 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great 00:54:04.91\00:54:06.72 and precious promises, Tom, 00:54:06.73\00:54:07.97 where are God exceeding great and precious promises found? 00:54:07.98\00:54:12.15 In His word. Having a need. 00:56:20.71\00:56:23.11 What was the second condition? 00:56:23.12\00:56:26.13 To forgiveness, that's right. 00:56:26.14\00:56:28.29 Now we need to ask for forgiveness. 00:56:28.30\00:56:30.40 What was the third condition? Faith. Faith. 00:56:30.41\00:56:33.21 We must believe that God exist in order to please Him. 00:56:33.22\00:56:36.50 Number four? Forgive others. Forgive others. 00:56:36.51\00:56:40.07 God we found out in Mark 11:25 and 26 00:56:40.08\00:56:43.21 and then in Matthew 6:12. 00:56:43.22\00:56:45.68 God will forgive us to the extent that we forgive others. 00:56:45.69\00:56:48.25 What was the fifth one? To persevere. To persevere. 00:56:48.26\00:56:51.20 What was the sixth one? Unselfish asking. 00:56:51.21\00:56:53.84 Unselfish asking, and the seventh? 00:56:53.85\00:56:56.34 God's will. God's will. 00:56:56.35\00:56:57.92 And we just have to pray what God has already promised 00:56:57.93\00:57:00.77 to know that we're praying according to God's will. 00:57:00.78\00:57:05.90 Now everyone of us can think of something in our life 00:57:05.91\00:57:08.43 right now that probably conflicts with one 00:57:08.44\00:57:10.64 of those conditions, and so maybe the best thing 00:57:10.65\00:57:15.20 for us to do when we're finished with this class 00:57:15.21\00:57:19.92 is to go to God and make sure 00:57:19.93\00:57:22.72 that all of those conditions are taken care of. 00:57:22.73\00:57:27.39 God's sincerely wants to hear our prayer. 00:57:27.40\00:57:30.60 He wants to hear your prayer. 00:57:30.61\00:57:33.30 And He has laid out for us today what we need to do 00:57:33.31\00:57:36.68 to know that our prayer is heard. 00:57:36.69\00:57:41.13 Thank you for joining us. 00:57:41.14\00:57:42.42
