Harvest truly is plenteous, 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.95 but the laborers are few. 00:00:02.96\00:00:03.93 Pray Ye therefore, the Lord of the harvest, 00:00:03.94\00:00:06.30 that He will, He will send forth laborers 00:00:06.31\00:00:09.04 into His harvest. 00:00:09.05\00:00:10.28 Also, I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 00:00:10.29\00:00:13.30 "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" 00:00:13.31\00:00:17.77 Then said, I. 00:00:17.78\00:00:19.35 "Here am I, send me, send me''. 00:00:19.36\00:00:23.23 Life on the Edge will enable you to be 00:00:23.24\00:00:25.47 an effective harvester for the Lord. 00:00:25.48\00:00:27.74 We now invite you into our classroom to come, 00:00:27.75\00:00:31.01 experience, Life. 00:00:31.02\00:00:34.27 We'd like to welcome all of you here to the classroom 00:00:43.26\00:00:45.98 at Lay Institute for Evangelism. 00:00:45.99\00:00:48.10 We recognize that there are some of you 00:00:48.11\00:00:49.98 00:00:55.42\00:00:59.17 We just want to praise the Lord 00:00:59.18\00:01:00.30 that everyone of you are here with us. 00:01:00.31\00:01:02.50 We are going to be going over a study today 00:01:02.51\00:01:04.74 on Christian Living. 00:01:04.75\00:01:05.93 And we're gonna focus on two specific aspects 00:01:05.94\00:01:09.81 of Christian Living and we're going to get 00:01:09.82\00:01:11.38 into that study in a just a moment. 00:01:11.39\00:01:13.33 But, we're very glad that you could be here with us 00:01:13.34\00:01:15.71 in this classroom on the campus 00:01:15.72\00:01:17.77 of Pine Lake Retreat in Groveland, Florida. 00:01:17.78\00:01:20.98 We just like to welcome everybody here, 00:01:20.99\00:01:22.85 our students at Lay Institute for Evangelism. 00:01:22.86\00:01:26.20 We go to our graphic now, you can see that 00:01:26.21\00:01:28.29 the title of this study is Christian Living. 00:01:28.30\00:01:33.33 The purpose of this study, 00:01:33.34\00:01:35.80 the purpose of this Bible study 00:01:35.81\00:01:37.60 to live in this world 00:01:41.99\00:01:43.47 while not becoming a part of this world. 00:01:43.48\00:01:47.24 To show that the way we look on the outside 00:01:47.25\00:01:50.39 is important to God and our worship of Him. 00:01:50.40\00:01:55.63 To show that how we look on the outside 00:01:55.64\00:01:57.68 is important to God and our worship of Him. 00:01:57.69\00:02:02.36 We'll go ahead and read our Center It, 00:02:02.37\00:02:04.16 each one of our Bible studies are centered on Jesus Christ. 00:02:04.17\00:02:08.41 Now our Center It is this, 00:02:08.42\00:02:09.93 the way that we dress is an outward indication 00:02:09.94\00:02:14.01 of our inward person. 00:02:14.02\00:02:17.09 Jesus desires that we reflect His character 00:02:17.10\00:02:19.87 on the outside as well as on the inside. 00:02:19.88\00:02:25.07 Jesus wants our characters not only to be 00:02:25.08\00:02:28.40 an inward display but an outward display. 00:02:28.41\00:02:33.28 He wants to see His character reflected in us 00:02:33.29\00:02:36.44 not only in our heart that He can see, 00:02:36.45\00:02:39.64 but also in our appearance that everyone else can see. 00:02:39.65\00:02:45.10 You'll notice there on our next graphic 00:02:45.11\00:02:47.11 we have all of the text that we are going 00:02:47.12\00:02:49.30 to be covering in this Bible study. 00:02:49.31\00:02:51.54 We have 16 of those texts and that is what 00:02:51.55\00:02:54.21 you are marking either in the front 00:02:54.22\00:02:55.98 or the back of your Bible 00:02:55.99\00:02:57.22 or on some other blank sheet that you have in your Bibles. 00:02:57.23\00:03:02.31 We'll go ahead and jump right into the study. 00:03:02.32\00:03:05.28 We're gonna jump right into this study, 00:03:05.29\00:03:07.10 and before we go to our first slide, 00:03:07.11\00:03:10.47 there was a young man who was in the service. 00:03:10.48\00:03:14.68 There was an accident, something happened 00:03:14.69\00:03:17.19 and his left arm had to amputated. 00:03:17.20\00:03:21.62 And the chaplain came into his room 00:03:21.63\00:03:24.29 and he said, young man, I know that you just woke up 00:03:24.30\00:03:28.44 but I need to let you know that you lost your left arm. 00:03:28.45\00:03:34.39 That soldier looked at chaplain he said, 00:03:34.40\00:03:36.90 I didn't lose anything I gave it. 00:03:36.91\00:03:42.30 Our attitude has much to do with the way 00:03:42.31\00:03:46.82 that we handle what we are going to learn today. 00:03:46.83\00:03:50.42 We are going to learn that we don't lose 00:03:50.43\00:03:53.02 anything by following God, 00:03:53.03\00:03:56.02 but we get everything from God when we follow Him. 00:03:56.03\00:04:01.58 This is probably one of the Bible studies 00:04:01.59\00:04:04.03 that you as Bible presenters, you as people 00:04:04.04\00:04:07.01 who are going to be giving Bible studies, 00:04:07.02\00:04:09.16 you will probably be amazed at the amount 00:04:09.17\00:04:12.98 of conviction that you see 00:04:12.99\00:04:15.38 when you're giving these Bible studies. 00:04:15.39\00:04:17.35 Every year that I've taught this Bible study. 00:04:17.36\00:04:20.78 When we had someone in the classroom 00:04:20.79\00:04:23.27 that was dressing in a way that God did not prescribe 00:04:23.28\00:04:26.93 to be dressed, that person during that study 00:04:26.94\00:04:30.48 would take off what God had asked them not to put on. 00:04:30.49\00:04:35.40 And we're gonna find that, that God is going 00:04:35.41\00:04:37.46 to convict us here and God is going to convict 00:04:37.47\00:04:40.16 those of you that are at home or on the Internet 00:04:40.17\00:04:42.92 because when the word of God is studied, 00:04:42.93\00:04:46.15 God's spirit is very active. 00:04:46.16\00:04:49.01 And so now we're gonna look to our screen 00:04:49.02\00:04:50.69 for our first reference. 00:04:50.70\00:04:52.11 We're gonna go to Hebrews 00:04:52.12\00:04:53.67 the second Chapter and the 10 verse. 00:04:53.68\00:04:57.62 Hebrews Chapter 2 and verse 10. 00:04:57.63\00:05:02.70 And before we study this, before we get into our 00:05:02.71\00:05:06.10 Bible study, we are going to pray. 00:05:06.11\00:05:08.64 So let's bow our heads and pray. 00:05:08.65\00:05:13.55 Gracious Father in heaven, 00:05:13.56\00:05:15.00 everyone of us here in the classroom 00:05:15.01\00:05:17.17 and at home are very grateful that you've given us this time 00:05:17.18\00:05:21.32 and this opportunity to study Your word. 00:05:21.33\00:05:24.66 We pray that you will give us 00:05:24.67\00:05:25.99 the humble heart of Christ 00:05:26.00\00:05:28.52 that you'll give us His mind and that you will gives us His 00:05:28.53\00:05:32.78 desire to follow your will. 00:05:32.79\00:05:36.36 Please bless us now as we study, 00:05:36.37\00:05:38.93 in your name we pray, Jesus, amen. 00:05:38.94\00:05:43.09 So we're opening our Bibles now to Hebrews 00:05:43.10\00:05:46.21 the second Chapter and the 10 verse. 00:05:46.22\00:05:49.67 Hebrews Chapter 2 and verse 10 00:05:49.68\00:05:52.16 and we'll go ahead let Mike read that. 00:05:52.17\00:05:53.93 Mike is usually there before anybody else 00:05:53.94\00:05:57.99 I don't know if he has this personal agenda 00:05:58.00\00:06:00.43 to make sure that he's there first, 00:06:00.44\00:06:02.41 but he's always there. 00:06:02.42\00:06:04.80 So read for us Hebrews Chapter 2 verse 10. 00:06:04.81\00:06:10.65 "For it became him, for whom are all things, 00:06:10.66\00:06:13.66 and by whom are all things, 00:06:13.67\00:06:15.93 in bringing many sons unto glory, 00:06:15.94\00:06:18.86 to make the captain of their salvation 00:06:18.87\00:06:20.92 perfect through sufferings." 00:06:20.93\00:06:23.14 Now, the first part of this Bible study 00:06:23.15\00:06:25.61 is designed to inspire people 00:06:25.62\00:06:30.02 to be a good soldier of Jesus. 00:06:30.03\00:06:33.40 The first part of this study is designed 00:06:33.41\00:06:36.18 to inspire us to do exactly what God ask us to do. 00:06:36.19\00:06:41.36 It has been stated that you can motivate people 00:06:41.37\00:06:44.93 much better by inspiration 00:06:44.94\00:06:46.96 rather than condemnation. 00:06:46.97\00:06:48.94 You can motivate somebody much better 00:06:48.95\00:06:50.59 by inspiration rather than condemning that person 00:06:50.60\00:06:53.08 and the first part of this study is to inspire us 00:06:53.09\00:06:56.21 to do what God is asking us to do. 00:06:56.22\00:06:58.42 And this text here says, verse 10 of Hebrews 2, 00:06:58.43\00:07:02.31 the very last part it says, 00:07:02.32\00:07:03.37 to make the captain of their salvation 00:07:03.38\00:07:07.16 perfect through sufferings. 00:07:07.17\00:07:09.76 So, my friend, who is the captain of our salvation? 00:07:09.77\00:07:16.04 Jesus Christ, that's absolutely right. 00:07:16.05\00:07:17.99 So Jesus is the captain of our salvation. 00:07:18.00\00:07:23.00 Now if Jesus is our captain 00:07:23.01\00:07:25.62 what then does that make us? 00:07:25.63\00:07:29.45 Soldiers, that's right. 00:07:29.46\00:07:31.06 Let's go to our second reference, 00:07:31.07\00:07:33.15 our second Christian Living text 00:07:33.16\00:07:35.85 and we're going to Second Timothy 00:07:35.86\00:07:37.67 Chapter 2 verses 3 and 4. 00:07:37.68\00:07:41.70 Second Timothy Chapter 2 verses 3 and 4. 00:07:41.71\00:07:46.83 So we'll go ahead and let Shalita read that for us, 00:07:46.84\00:07:49.38 Second Timothy Chapter 2 verses 3 and 4. 00:07:49.39\00:07:56.91 "Thou therefore endure hardness 00:07:56.92\00:07:59.72 as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 00:07:59.73\00:08:02.25 No man that worth entangles himself 00:08:02.26\00:08:06.38 with the affairs of this life, that he may please him 00:08:06.39\00:08:09.98 who have chosen him to be a soldier." 00:08:09.99\00:08:12.80 Okay, so the Bible here teaches us exactly 00:08:12.81\00:08:15.43 what we said a moment ago. 00:08:15.44\00:08:16.81 If Jesus is the captain of our salvation, 00:08:16.82\00:08:19.67 then that makes us what? Soldiers. 00:08:19.68\00:08:23.30 And scripture says that right there 00:08:23.31\00:08:25.44 in Second Timothy 2 verse 4. 00:08:25.45\00:08:27.85 It says that, we may please him, 00:08:27.86\00:08:30.30 well, let's start back up in verse 00:08:30.31\00:08:31.95 the beginning verse 4. 00:08:31.96\00:08:33.49 It says, no man that wars, 00:08:33.50\00:08:36.27 so no man that's in a war entangles himself 00:08:36.28\00:08:40.60 with the affairs of this life. 00:08:40.61\00:08:43.98 You remember that King David, 00:08:43.99\00:08:46.91 one of his captain was Uriah, wasn't it? 00:08:46.92\00:08:49.38 And Uriah wouldn't even go home 00:08:49.39\00:08:52.34 because Israel was at war. 00:08:52.35\00:08:56.16 Israel was at war. 00:08:56.17\00:08:57.44 He did not want to entangle himself 00:08:57.45\00:08:59.72 in the affairs of this life, so he didn't even go home 00:08:59.73\00:09:01.69 to see his wife Bathsheba. 00:09:01.70\00:09:03.83 The Bible says here that no man that wars 00:09:03.84\00:09:07.12 entangles himself with the affairs of this life. 00:09:07.13\00:09:09.84 So the reason we are in this text 00:09:09.85\00:09:11.76 is to inspire individuals 00:09:11.77\00:09:15.06 to be that good solider of Jesus Christ. 00:09:15.07\00:09:19.64 And to be a good solider of Jesus Christ 00:09:19.65\00:09:21.98 our focus is not on this world, our focus is on whom? 00:09:21.99\00:09:27.51 It's on Jesus and it's on the battle that is being fought. 00:09:27.52\00:09:31.43 This is the-- what is that the 22nd study 00:09:31.44\00:09:35.11 in our Life on the Edge series. 00:09:35.12\00:09:37.42 Our third study-- everybody that's here knows, 00:09:37.43\00:09:40.83 what was our third study? The great controversy. 00:09:40.84\00:09:44.19 Those of you at home maybe you missed that 00:09:44.20\00:09:45.93 but there is this cosmic battle that is going on 00:09:45.94\00:09:49.06 between Jesus Christ and the antichrist. 00:09:49.07\00:09:51.76 Between Jesus Christ and Satan. 00:09:51.77\00:09:55.07 And here it says in Second Timothy 2:3 and 4. 00:09:55.08\00:09:59.00 "Thou therefore endure hardness 00:09:59.01\00:10:02.01 as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 00:10:02.02\00:10:06.29 No man that warreth entangles himself 00:10:06.30\00:10:09.04 with the affairs of this life, that he may please him 00:10:09.05\00:10:11.82 that has chosen him to be a soldier." 00:10:11.83\00:10:16.18 So who was it that shows you to a solider. 00:10:16.19\00:10:19.12 Jesus. Jesus. 00:10:19.13\00:10:20.97 That gives you an advantage point, doesn't it? 00:10:20.98\00:10:25.90 If you're going to be in war you want to be 00:10:25.91\00:10:27.70 with the guy that's already conquered the enemy, 00:10:27.71\00:10:29.31 don't you? Amen. 00:10:29.32\00:10:30.52 And the Bible says here 00:10:30.53\00:10:31.57 that you are a solider of Jesus Christ. 00:10:31.58\00:10:37.73 Now Jesus Christ, it says there, 00:10:37.74\00:10:40.71 you're a solider of Jesus Christ, 00:10:40.72\00:10:42.28 you don't entangle yourself with the affairs 00:10:42.29\00:10:43.62 of this world that you may please Him 00:10:43.63\00:10:46.46 who has chosen you to be a soldier. 00:10:46.47\00:10:49.44 Our goal in this life is to please Jesus Christ. 00:10:49.45\00:10:58.46 Everything that you do, everything that you say 00:10:58.47\00:11:02.57 even everything that we eat should be done 00:11:02.58\00:11:08.19 to please God, shouldn't it? 00:11:08.20\00:11:12.26 So we're gonna to our next text. 00:11:12.27\00:11:14.43 We are going to see 00:11:14.44\00:11:15.41 what the results of pleasing God are. 00:11:15.42\00:11:20.88 What are results of pleasing God? 00:11:20.89\00:11:24.29 So we started this Bible study in Hebrews 2, 00:11:24.30\00:11:27.43 this Bible study started in Hebrews 2. 00:11:27.44\00:11:29.33 Now we are going to Hebrews Chapter 11 00:11:29.34\00:11:32.00 and verse 5. Hebrews Chapter 11, 00:11:32.01\00:11:35.16 it's our third text in the Christian Living study. 00:11:35.17\00:11:39.22 Hebrews Chapter 11 verse 5 00:11:39.23\00:11:40.82 and the reason we're in this text 00:11:40.83\00:11:42.95 and I must turn there even while I talk. 00:11:42.96\00:11:45.00 The reason that we are in the text is to show 00:11:45.01\00:11:47.89 the results of pleasing the captain of our salvation. 00:11:47.90\00:11:55.03 Now if you can ahead Ms. Gloria, 00:11:55.04\00:11:57.30 can you read Hebrews Chapter 11 and verse 5 for us, 00:11:57.31\00:12:01.10 and you will need that microphone 00:12:01.11\00:12:02.98 right there beside you. 00:12:02.99\00:12:03.97 Hebrews Chapter 11 and verse 5 00:12:03.98\00:12:07.23 and maybe you're like me you found yourself 00:12:07.24\00:12:09.57 in Hebrews 5 looking at verse 11. 00:12:09.58\00:12:11.49 But, we're in Hebrews 11 verse 5, 00:12:11.50\00:12:15.11 if you could read that for us. 00:12:15.12\00:12:19.23 "By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, 00:12:19.24\00:12:27.43 and was not found, because God had taken him, 00:12:27.44\00:12:33.05 for before he was taken he had this testimony, 00:12:33.06\00:12:37.54 that he pleased God." 00:12:37.55\00:12:40.15 Now, you'll remember Enoch. 00:12:40.16\00:12:41.91 Enoch never died. Of course, 00:12:41.92\00:12:44.81 Enoch had to die to self, didn't he? 00:12:44.82\00:12:46.90 But, Enoch never died like people that get 00:12:46.91\00:12:50.36 old and sick and die, do here on this earth. 00:12:50.37\00:12:53.14 Enoch was taken or translated to heaven, why? 00:12:53.15\00:13:00.20 Because he pleased God. Because he pleased God. 00:13:00.21\00:13:02.61 Is it important for us to please God? 00:13:02.62\00:13:08.54 What is the result of our pleasing God? 00:13:08.55\00:13:14.28 Eternal life. Eternal life. 00:13:14.29\00:13:16.28 And what did you say there, Shalita? 00:13:16.29\00:13:18.28 Translation. The result of pleasing God 00:13:18.29\00:13:22.00 or striving to please God is translation preparation. 00:13:22.01\00:13:27.94 Translation preparation, how many if you want be 00:13:27.95\00:13:30.51 translated, don't want to see death at all. 00:13:30.52\00:13:32.69 Oh man, you realize we're gonna have to standup 00:13:32.70\00:13:35.71 against some hard things before Jesus comes. 00:13:35.72\00:13:38.87 When God stands up and says, 00:13:38.88\00:13:41.28 let everything be filthy that is filthy. 00:13:41.29\00:13:45.07 We're gonna face some hard situations, aren't we? 00:13:45.08\00:13:48.61 The result of pleasing God is eternal life, translation. 00:13:48.62\00:13:55.85 Paul, Paul tells us in our next reference 00:13:55.86\00:14:00.09 First Thessalonians 4:1 you can see 00:14:00.10\00:14:02.03 that there on your screen. 00:14:02.04\00:14:03.25 First Thessalonians 4:1 Paul tells us 00:14:03.26\00:14:06.34 that we should live to please God. 00:14:06.35\00:14:10.11 Now, Paul doesn't have to tell us this 00:14:10.12\00:14:11.78 because we already want to please God, 00:14:11.79\00:14:13.62 but it's important for us to see these concepts 00:14:13.63\00:14:16.22 and these principles out of scripture. 00:14:16.23\00:14:18.44 So we're going to the left from where we are, 00:14:18.45\00:14:21.83 we are going to First Timothy Chapter 4 00:14:21.84\00:14:25.74 and I have past it maybe you did the same. 00:14:25.75\00:14:29.61 Oh, maybe that's why I have past it 00:14:29.62\00:14:31.34 as I was going to the wrong one. 00:14:31.35\00:14:33.75 All right, First Thessalonians Chapter 4 verse 1 00:14:33.76\00:14:37.21 and, Do-Sung, if you could read that for us. 00:14:37.22\00:14:40.58 First Thessalonians Chapter 4 and verse 1. 00:14:40.59\00:14:44.15 "Furthermore, then we beseech you, brethren, 00:14:44.16\00:14:47.59 and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, 00:14:47.60\00:14:50.07 that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk 00:14:50.08\00:14:53.20 and to please God, so ye would abound more and more." 00:14:53.21\00:14:59.18 There's lots of different ways that you and I 00:14:59.19\00:15:02.70 can walk or live to please God. 00:15:02.71\00:15:06.79 This Bible study is going to focus on two of those ways. 00:15:06.80\00:15:12.61 It's going to focus on the way we dress 00:15:12.62\00:15:16.01 and it is going to focus on the things that we put 00:15:16.02\00:15:18.75 on our bodies or jewelry. 00:15:18.76\00:15:21.50 This Bible study is going to focus on dress 00:15:21.51\00:15:24.67 and it's going to focus on jewelry. 00:15:24.68\00:15:28.22 Paul says there, that we ought to walk 00:15:28.23\00:15:32.73 and to please God, so that ye would abound 00:15:32.74\00:15:37.36 more and more. So the purpose of walking 00:15:37.37\00:15:40.79 or living and pleasing God 00:15:40.80\00:15:43.55 is so that you and I can grow closer 00:15:43.56\00:15:45.94 and closer to Jesus, isn't it? 00:15:45.95\00:15:48.19 That's why we're here 00:15:48.20\00:15:49.47 at Lay Institute for Evangelism as well. 00:15:49.48\00:15:52.01 And so we're gonna go now we're gonna focus 00:15:52.02\00:15:54.29 on dress and we're just gonna pull some 00:15:54.30\00:15:56.63 principles out of probably the most 00:15:56.64\00:15:59.69 discouraging chapter in the Bible, 00:15:59.70\00:16:03.50 that would be Genesis Chapter 3. 00:16:03.51\00:16:05.52 That's where all of heaven broke loose. 00:16:05.53\00:16:08.88 Genesis Chapter 3. 00:16:08.89\00:16:10.79 So we're going to Genesis Chapter 3 and verse 7. 00:16:10.80\00:16:15.29 The first text that we used, 00:16:15.30\00:16:17.17 the first text that we went over, 00:16:17.18\00:16:19.39 were used for the purpose of inspiring us to be 00:16:19.40\00:16:23.74 a good solider of Jesus Christ and you want to be 00:16:23.75\00:16:27.40 a good solider, don't you. Amen. 00:16:27.41\00:16:28.96 Sure, now we're looking at the way 00:16:28.97\00:16:31.71 that the soldier of Christ, the one that doesn't 00:16:31.72\00:16:34.99 want to get entangled with the affairs of this world. 00:16:35.00\00:16:37.41 We're going to look and see how does that soldier dress. 00:16:37.42\00:16:41.52 Now I'm not going to tell you any specific length 00:16:41.53\00:16:44.13 of anything or anything like that, 00:16:44.14\00:16:46.40 but we're going to get principles 00:16:46.41\00:16:48.90 out of scripture. Because if we ca take 00:16:48.91\00:16:50.73 the principle out of scripture, Tim, 00:16:50.74\00:16:52.81 then we can know that we're following God. 00:16:52.82\00:16:55.55 So Tim's ready, he's got that microphone in front of him. 00:16:55.56\00:16:58.54 He's gonna read for us 00:16:58.55\00:16:59.59 Genesis Chapter 3 and verse 7. 00:16:59.60\00:17:04.23 "And the eyes of them both were opened, 00:17:04.24\00:17:07.85 and they knew that they were naked, 00:17:07.86\00:17:09.96 and they sewed fig leaves together 00:17:09.97\00:17:12.01 and made themselves aprons." 00:17:12.02\00:17:14.82 Okay, so Adam and Eve sinned. 00:17:14.83\00:17:18.68 Adam and Eve disobeyed God and all of a sudden 00:17:18.69\00:17:22.83 Adam and Eve realize that they are what? 00:17:22.84\00:17:25.99 Naked. Naked. 00:17:26.00\00:17:26.97 They realized they are no longer clothed. 00:17:26.98\00:17:31.31 They don't have anything on, 00:17:31.32\00:17:36.13 then God comes-- then what does it say 00:17:36.14\00:17:38.60 that they do there in verse 7, 00:17:38.61\00:17:40.25 they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves what? 00:17:40.26\00:17:44.48 Aprons. Aprons or coverings. 00:17:44.49\00:17:47.78 That's what another version reads, isn't it? 00:17:47.79\00:17:49.77 Coverings, and we're gonna see this in our graphic 00:17:49.78\00:17:51.75 right here. Let's go to the screen. 00:17:51.76\00:17:53.70 The word covering or apron is khagore 00:17:53.71\00:17:58.25 chagore, and it means covering apron or girdle. 00:17:58.26\00:18:05.11 Now how many of you know how much a girdle covers? 00:18:05.12\00:18:09.29 Not much, the ladies in here are just starting to grin. 00:18:09.30\00:18:13.71 A girdle doesn't cover much, 00:18:13.72\00:18:15.24 it only covers the what? The essentials. 00:18:15.25\00:18:18.86 An apron, you know, when I was going up 00:18:18.87\00:18:20.59 I had to go I was four years old 00:18:20.60\00:18:22.16 I had to go have surgery. 00:18:22.17\00:18:23.71 And I can remember being in the waiting area 00:18:23.72\00:18:28.17 with my mom and dad or the preparation area, 00:18:28.18\00:18:31.28 I forget, the pre-op area, 00:18:31.29\00:18:32.94 that's the word I'm looking for. 00:18:32.95\00:18:34.53 And I can remember holding my robe closed in the back 00:18:34.54\00:18:38.25 because I didn't want anybody to see my bottom. 00:18:38.26\00:18:41.10 I didn't want anybody to see that. 00:18:41.11\00:18:42.83 Have you ever put an apron on? 00:18:42.84\00:18:45.23 How much doesn't apron cover? 00:18:45.24\00:18:47.86 not much, not much. 00:18:47.87\00:18:50.76 Adam and Eve made themselves chagore 00:18:50.77\00:18:54.79 or they made themselves coverings or aprons or girdle. 00:18:54.80\00:18:57.86 They made themselves something that only 00:18:57.87\00:19:00.16 covered the essentials, that only covered the essentials. 00:19:00.17\00:19:06.21 But something happens in Genesis Chapter 3 00:19:06.22\00:19:08.71 verse 15 something happens in Genesis 3:15. 00:19:08.72\00:19:12.49 And Jessica, if you could read for us 00:19:12.50\00:19:15.14 Genesis Chapter 3 and verse 15. 00:19:15.15\00:19:19.56 You will see that on our next graphic 00:19:19.57\00:19:21.28 Genesis Chapter 3 and verse 15. 00:19:21.29\00:19:23.83 Again we're just looking for principles. 00:19:23.84\00:19:26.38 Adam and Eve find out they're naked, 00:19:26.39\00:19:28.69 they sewed fig leaves together 00:19:28.70\00:19:30.14 and they cover just the privates. 00:19:30.15\00:19:32.44 And if you could read for us what happens 00:19:32.45\00:19:34.32 in Genesis 3:15. 00:19:34.33\00:19:36.99 "From now on, you and the woman will be enemies, 00:19:37.00\00:19:40.84 and your offspring and her offspring 00:19:40.85\00:19:43.15 will be enemies. He will crush your head, 00:19:43.16\00:19:45.97 and you will strike his heel." 00:19:45.98\00:19:49.33 All right, so Adam and Eve sin, 00:19:49.34\00:19:52.29 they realize their make it and this is the first promise 00:19:52.30\00:19:56.41 of a Redeemer in the Bible. 00:19:56.42\00:19:59.25 Genesis Chapter 3 verse 15 is the promise 00:19:59.26\00:20:04.11 of the Redeemer that is going to come. 00:20:04.12\00:20:06.64 So we see that sin happens, 00:20:06.65\00:20:09.52 they cover just their privates, 00:20:09.53\00:20:11.52 God comes along, promises the Redeemer 00:20:11.53\00:20:14.53 and then God does something very interesting. 00:20:14.54\00:20:17.97 Before we look at what God does 00:20:17.98\00:20:19.95 it so interesting I'll ask you this. 00:20:19.96\00:20:22.19 Is God redundant? 00:20:22.20\00:20:24.55 Is God redundant, if you did something 00:20:28.52\00:20:31.31 does God need to go back 00:20:31.32\00:20:32.81 and do that for you again? No, no. 00:20:32.82\00:20:37.51 God is not redundant God isn't gonna do 00:20:37.52\00:20:39.24 for you what you can do for yourself. 00:20:39.25\00:20:41.44 God is not redundant, so if you have done something 00:20:41.45\00:20:45.12 God isn't going to come along and do that same thing. 00:20:45.13\00:20:49.09 Does that make sense there? 00:20:49.10\00:20:50.07 Okay, so if you have done something 00:20:50.08\00:20:51.82 God isn't gonna come along and do that same thing. 00:20:51.83\00:20:54.26 Although God can probably do what we do-- 00:20:54.27\00:20:56.03 God can do what we do much better of course. 00:20:56.04\00:20:58.46 Let's go to our next reference you will see 00:20:58.47\00:21:01.67 on your screen Genesis 3 verse 21. 00:21:01.68\00:21:06.75 Genesis Chapter 3 and verse 21 00:21:06.76\00:21:10.98 and again we're looking for a principle. 00:21:10.99\00:21:13.93 Now because God is not redundant 00:21:13.94\00:21:16.57 he does something very interesting 00:21:16.58\00:21:18.28 and Robert is going to read for us 00:21:18.29\00:21:19.94 Genesis Chapter 3 verse 21. 00:21:19.95\00:21:23.97 "Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made 00:21:23.98\00:21:28.39 tunics of skin, and clothed them." 00:21:28.40\00:21:32.75 God made tunics of skin and did what? 00:21:32.76\00:21:35.81 Clothed them. Clothed them. 00:21:35.82\00:21:38.55 Did God consider Adam and Eve to be clothed 00:21:38.56\00:21:43.66 when they just had the privates 00:21:43.67\00:21:45.50 or the essentials covered? 00:21:45.51\00:21:47.55 Absolutely not, Absolutely not. 00:21:47.56\00:21:50.87 So Adam and Eve were naked, 00:21:50.88\00:21:52.25 they made for themselves listen to this 00:21:52.26\00:21:54.16 they made underwear and God came along 00:21:54.17\00:21:57.56 and given them clothes. 00:21:57.57\00:22:00.25 The principle there is not just you and I 00:22:00.26\00:22:04.50 shouldn't go around walking around our underwear. 00:22:04.51\00:22:07.63 The principle is that we should be 00:22:07.64\00:22:11.20 clothed very modestly. 00:22:11.21\00:22:16.22 And something that just covers the essentials 00:22:16.23\00:22:19.34 according to God is not clothed 00:22:19.35\00:22:22.57 because God is not redundant, God comes along 00:22:22.58\00:22:25.83 and he gives Adam and Eve clothing. 00:22:25.84\00:22:28.25 But, Adam and Eve only made for themselves 00:22:28.26\00:22:30.29 what they felt was appropriate 00:22:30.30\00:22:32.14 and they just covered their essential parts. 00:22:32.15\00:22:35.68 So the principle that we see here again. 00:22:35.69\00:22:38.51 Let's just start from beginning of the study. 00:22:38.52\00:22:40.67 We went through Hebrews Chapter 2 verse 10 00:22:40.68\00:22:43.38 Jesus is captain of our Salvation. 00:22:43.39\00:22:45.46 Then we went Timothy we are a good soldier 00:22:45.47\00:22:48.10 of Jesus Christ, we don't get entangled 00:22:48.11\00:22:49.91 with this world. Hebrews Chapter 11, 00:22:49.92\00:22:52.43 we walk to please God, not Hebrew. 00:22:52.44\00:22:54.48 Well, Hebrews 11:5 said that Enoch, 00:22:54.49\00:22:58.08 the result of pleasing God is translation, 00:22:58.09\00:23:00.81 and then we went to First Thessalonians 00:23:00.82\00:23:02.75 where it said that, we should walk to please God. 00:23:02.76\00:23:07.42 Where Adam and Eve pleasing God 00:23:07.43\00:23:10.10 by being clothed with fig leaves? 00:23:10.11\00:23:13.82 Or by covering up the essentials 00:23:13.83\00:23:16.34 with fig leaves because you notice there 00:23:16.35\00:23:18.28 in the text it says God comes along and clothes them. 00:23:18.29\00:23:22.49 They weren't clothe before, God clothes them. 00:23:22.50\00:23:25.98 So the principle that we are pulling out of this 00:23:25.99\00:23:28.25 is that when we dress we need to dress 00:23:28.26\00:23:31.22 in a way that glorifies God. 00:23:31.23\00:23:34.92 And if we look at Genesis Chapter 3 we can say well, 00:23:34.93\00:23:37.72 a way that we can dress to glorify God 00:23:37.73\00:23:40.30 is to make sure that more much more 00:23:40.31\00:23:43.27 than just our private parts are covered. 00:23:43.28\00:23:46.96 The word that was used there for tunic 00:23:46.97\00:23:49.07 is kethoneth and it means to cover or to robe. 00:23:49.08\00:23:54.49 So they made for themselves small things 00:23:54.50\00:23:57.16 and God gives for them big things. 00:23:57.17\00:24:00.55 They cover the essentials, God covers everything else. 00:24:00.56\00:24:05.33 So as soon as the Savior's introduced, 00:24:05.34\00:24:07.68 then the Savior says, hey, listen, 00:24:07.69\00:24:09.45 this is the principle, you're not clothed right now 00:24:09.46\00:24:12.43 I'm going to give you some clothes. 00:24:12.44\00:24:14.64 I'm going to give you some clothes. 00:24:14.65\00:24:16.99 It's interesting that the world says, 00:24:17.00\00:24:20.15 take it off when it comes to clothing, 00:24:20.16\00:24:22.67 but God says what? Put it on. 00:24:22.68\00:24:26.00 Now we are going to find out that the world says 00:24:26.01\00:24:29.67 concerning jewelry put it on, 00:24:29.68\00:24:33.24 but God says what? 00:24:33.25\00:24:35.04 Take it off. Take it off. 00:24:35.05\00:24:37.72 So when it comes to clothing the world says 00:24:37.73\00:24:39.38 take it off, God says put it on. 00:24:39.39\00:24:42.20 When it comes to adornment God says 00:24:42.21\00:24:45.01 take it off and the world says put it on. 00:24:45.02\00:24:48.52 So now we've gotten the principle from scripture 00:24:48.53\00:24:52.90 that we need to dress modestly, was that clear? 00:24:52.91\00:24:56.71 It's very simple, isn't it? 00:24:56.72\00:24:58.32 it's very simply and most people would say 00:24:58.33\00:25:00.85 here, you know, I can understand 00:25:00.86\00:25:01.98 that I need to dress modestly. 00:25:01.99\00:25:05.46 Now gentlemen even though some of us can pull out 00:25:05.47\00:25:09.05 Atlas anytime we want. 00:25:09.06\00:25:11.84 Does that mean we need to show off 00:25:11.85\00:25:12.96 our muscles to all the ladies. 00:25:12.97\00:25:14.85 No, no, no, that's saved for wife and ladies, 00:25:14.86\00:25:20.20 just because you have the body of Eve 00:25:20.21\00:25:23.25 who was a perfect lady. 00:25:23.26\00:25:24.53 Okay, I have no idea what she looked like, 00:25:24.54\00:25:27.12 is it appropriate for you to show off 00:25:27.13\00:25:28.80 to every man that body? 00:25:28.81\00:25:30.22 No. No, no, no. 00:25:30.23\00:25:32.32 So we keep ourselves clothed 00:25:32.33\00:25:35.08 and then when you find your husband 00:25:35.09\00:25:36.84 or your wife well, you do what married people do. 00:25:36.85\00:25:42.51 They're naked in front of each other 00:25:42.52\00:25:43.88 and they're not ashamed. 00:25:43.89\00:25:45.75 All right, let's go to our next-- enough on that 00:25:45.76\00:25:48.14 Let's go to our next reference. 00:25:48.15\00:25:50.65 Let's go to our next reference, 00:25:50.66\00:25:52.19 we are going to First Timothy 2 and verse 9. 00:25:52.20\00:25:57.14 First Timothy Chapter 2 and verse 9 00:25:57.15\00:26:01.23 and we are going to let the Vanessa read this. 00:26:01.24\00:26:05.04 First Timothy Chapter 2 and verse 9, 00:26:05.05\00:26:09.81 First Timothy is of course, in the New Testament 00:26:09.82\00:26:13.10 in the T section. 00:26:13.11\00:26:17.01 And what the scripture say there for us, Vanessa. 00:26:17.02\00:26:19.94 "In like manner also that women adorn themselves 00:26:19.95\00:26:23.60 in modest apparel." 00:26:23.61\00:26:24.84 Okay, stop right there, stop right there. 00:26:24.85\00:26:28.32 The Biblical principle of modesty 00:26:28.33\00:26:33.18 is what Paul is referring to here. 00:26:33.19\00:26:36.20 The Biblical principle of modestly 00:26:36.21\00:26:38.05 is what Paul referring to here. 00:26:38.06\00:26:39.54 Where did Paul get his information on modesty? 00:26:39.55\00:26:45.66 From the Bible, from scripture. 00:26:45.67\00:26:47.12 What scripture did Paul have? 00:26:47.13\00:26:49.31 Paul had the Old Testament, 00:26:49.32\00:26:51.63 so read that part of the verse again, Vanessa. 00:26:51.64\00:26:54.58 "In like manner also that women adorn themselves 00:26:54.59\00:26:59.33 in modest apparel." Keep going. 00:26:59.34\00:27:02.79 "With shamefacedness and sobriety; 00:27:02.80\00:27:05.35 not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, 00:27:05.36\00:27:09.03 or costly array." Array. 00:27:09.04\00:27:12.09 So Paul here takes the biblical principle 00:27:12.10\00:27:16.54 of modesty and he just restates it 00:27:16.55\00:27:20.46 in the New Testament. 00:27:20.47\00:27:21.60 He said there in verse 9, in like manner also 00:27:21.61\00:27:24.53 that women adorn themselves with what? 00:27:24.54\00:27:28.67 Modest. Modest apparel. 00:27:28.68\00:27:30.62 Now I'm not here to tell you what is modest 00:27:30.63\00:27:34.38 and what is not, but for us guys if we feel like 00:27:34.39\00:27:38.14 we're wearing something we've got to poke 00:27:38.15\00:27:39.64 our chest up and suck that gut in 00:27:39.65\00:27:41.72 so that people can look at us. 00:27:41.73\00:27:43.08 We're probably not wearing the clothes 00:27:43.09\00:27:45.27 that we should be wearing. 00:27:45.28\00:27:47.27 And ladies, if you find yourself continually 00:27:47.28\00:27:49.28 having to shimmy down your skirt 00:27:49.29\00:27:50.98 because you are afraid that your private parts 00:27:50.99\00:27:53.42 that God covered are going to be uncovered, 00:27:53.43\00:27:58.24 then maybe we should wear something a little longer. 00:27:58.25\00:28:00.06 So Paul says listen that women should 00:28:00.07\00:28:02.34 adorn themselves with modest apparel, 00:28:02.35\00:28:04.68 that's the positive aspect of that verse. 00:28:04.69\00:28:07.68 Then he says there not, in verse 9, 00:28:07.69\00:28:11.96 not with broided hair, 00:28:11.97\00:28:14.40 or gold or pearls, or costly array. 00:28:14.41\00:28:20.29 Now if Paul gets his principle 00:28:20.30\00:28:22.78 when you're giving this Bible study you got remember 00:28:22.79\00:28:24.86 we're dealing with principles here. 00:28:24.87\00:28:26.61 If Paul gotten the principle of modestly 00:28:26.62\00:28:28.93 from the Old Testament, then where did Paul get 00:28:28.94\00:28:33.36 the principle of not be adorn with broided hair, 00:28:33.37\00:28:37.74 which is braiding strands of gold or sliver into your hair. 00:28:37.75\00:28:41.38 Some of the version may even say braided hair 00:28:41.39\00:28:44.94 and it's braiding your hair in a way that brings 00:28:44.95\00:28:47.08 glory to you that takes the attention off of God 00:28:47.09\00:28:50.22 and brings it to you. 00:28:50.23\00:28:52.09 And there is a custom that they would 00:28:52.10\00:28:54.47 when the ladies in this era here would bray their hair 00:28:54.48\00:28:57.42 they would bray it with silver and gold strands into it 00:28:57.43\00:29:00.23 so it sparkle when they turn their head. 00:29:00.24\00:29:03.99 He says not with broided hair or with gold 00:29:04.00\00:29:07.70 what is it say there or gold or pearls or costly array. 00:29:07.71\00:29:14.76 Paul is giving us the very forward information 00:29:14.77\00:29:18.61 from the principles that he got 00:29:18.62\00:29:20.90 out of the Old Testament, is this clear, is this clear? 00:29:20.91\00:29:25.69 Paul bases his modestly principle 00:29:25.70\00:29:27.86 on the Old Testament, excuse me, 00:29:27.87\00:29:30.66 Paul is going to base the principle 00:29:30.67\00:29:32.83 of not adorning ourselves on the exterior 00:29:32.84\00:29:35.81 on the Old Testament as well. 00:29:35.82\00:29:38.67 But, why would Paul, we're gonna get to, 00:29:38.68\00:29:40.70 you see there on your graphic 00:29:40.71\00:29:42.04 we go back to the same graphic in the far corner, 00:29:42.05\00:29:44.75 far right corner it says mentioned 00:29:44.76\00:29:46.34 in First Corinthians 2:2 so I'm gonna mention that. 00:29:46.35\00:29:49.24 And so in your notes or in your Bible study 00:29:49.25\00:29:52.55 you may just put mention as you mark it in your Bible, 00:29:52.56\00:29:55.01 mention First Corinthians 2:2. 00:29:55.02\00:29:57.46 Paul said in First Corinthians 2:2 00:29:57.47\00:29:59.94 we will read it later, 00:29:59.95\00:30:01.43 but I will quote part of it to you right now. 00:30:01.44\00:30:03.57 Paul said, "I'm determined not to know 00:30:03.58\00:30:06.50 any thing among you, save Jesus Christ 00:30:06.51\00:30:10.72 and him crucified." Paul said, 00:30:10.73\00:30:15.87 in First Corinthians 2:2, "I'm determined not to know 00:30:15.88\00:30:18.64 any thing among you, 00:30:18.65\00:30:19.88 save Jesus Christ and him crucified." 00:30:19.89\00:30:22.73 Why is Paul telling us about the way we should dress 00:30:22.74\00:30:28.73 and the way we should not adorn ourselves 00:30:28.74\00:30:31.96 if all he's concerned about is the gospel. 00:30:31.97\00:30:38.43 Why is Paul, I'll ask you again 00:30:38.44\00:30:40.36 Bill's got that question mark on is forehead. 00:30:40.37\00:30:42.41 Why is Paul telling us about modesty 00:30:42.42\00:30:45.73 and about the things we shouldn't wear, 00:30:45.74\00:30:48.35 if Paul's principle was the Lord Jesus Christ 00:30:48.36\00:30:51.05 and him crucified? If Paul was only worried 00:30:51.06\00:30:54.46 about the gospel why is Paul telling us 00:30:54.47\00:30:56.87 about this and you had to hand up right there 00:30:56.88\00:30:58.70 get that microphone so we can hear you. 00:30:58.71\00:31:00.55 There you go. Because he wanted to show 00:31:00.56\00:31:03.12 Jesus' character through the way we dress. 00:31:03.13\00:31:07.06 He wanted to show Jesus character 00:31:07.07\00:31:09.19 through the way that we dress. 00:31:09.20\00:31:10.43 Thank you, Darlene. 00:31:10.44\00:31:11.83 Paul must have considered the way we dress, 00:31:11.84\00:31:17.91 the things we put on our bodies 00:31:17.92\00:31:21.42 to have something to do with the gospel. 00:31:21.43\00:31:24.52 If all Paul was concerned about was the gospel, 00:31:24.53\00:31:28.10 Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 00:31:28.11\00:31:30.25 Then the way that we dress, 00:31:30.26\00:31:32.33 our modestly must show the gospel, 00:31:32.34\00:31:38.87 if the way we dress and the things we put on 00:31:38.88\00:31:41.63 take away from the beauty of Christ and we think, 00:31:41.64\00:31:45.61 add to our own beauty, then we're distracting, 00:31:45.62\00:31:50.59 we're distracted from Jesus Christ. 00:31:50.60\00:31:52.45 Does that make sense? 00:31:52.46\00:31:54.42 Okay, so Paul says, "I'm determined 00:31:54.43\00:31:55.68 not to know anything among you, 00:31:55.69\00:31:56.70 save Jesus Christ and him crucified." 00:31:56.71\00:31:59.60 And so what we are going to now as we are going 00:31:59.61\00:32:02.04 to go into the Old Testament. 00:32:02.05\00:32:05.27 We are going to take the principle of 00:32:05.28\00:32:08.57 not adorning ourselves and we are going to look at it 00:32:08.58\00:32:11.98 through the Old Testament. 00:32:11.99\00:32:13.49 We're gonna take the principle that Paul gives us 00:32:13.50\00:32:15.97 not to adorn ourselves with broided hair, 00:32:15.98\00:32:18.76 gold, pearls, costly array and we're gonna 00:32:18.77\00:32:23.31 look at that from Old Testament. 00:32:23.32\00:32:24.75 And we are going to start in Genesis. 00:32:24.76\00:32:27.02 We go to our next graphic, 00:32:27.03\00:32:28.65 Genesis Chapter 35 verses 1 through 5. 00:32:28.66\00:32:32.78 Now whom ever is going to read this 00:32:32.79\00:32:34.59 let see that was going to be Darlene. 00:32:34.60\00:32:37.24 Darlene will read this for us, 00:32:37.25\00:32:39.23 we're in Genesis Chapter 35:1 through 5. 00:32:39.24\00:32:42.92 Genesis, so Genesis that's the first book, 00:32:45.74\00:32:48.74 I started to quote all the books there, 00:32:48.75\00:32:50.58 so I could find there but remember was the first one. 00:32:50.59\00:32:53.30 All right, Darlene if you could start in verse 1. 00:32:53.31\00:32:57.91 Then God said to Jacob, "Arise, 00:32:57.92\00:33:00.33 go up to Bethel and dwell there, 00:33:00.34\00:33:04.07 and make an altar there to God, 00:33:04.08\00:33:06.46 who appeared to you when you fled 00:33:06.47\00:33:08.26 from the face of Esau your brother." 00:33:08.27\00:33:10.27 All right, right there. 00:33:10.28\00:33:12.08 What is the reason and the answer 00:33:12.09\00:33:14.79 is found in verse 1. 00:33:14.80\00:33:16.09 What is the reason that Jacob 00:33:16.10\00:33:19.57 is going to go to Bethel? 00:33:19.58\00:33:22.03 Make altar. To make an altar. 00:33:22.04\00:33:24.84 Now, you make altars to your what? 00:33:24.85\00:33:28.89 God. To your God. 00:33:28.90\00:33:30.34 So he is going to Bethel to worship God, 00:33:30.35\00:33:34.03 does that make sense? 00:33:34.04\00:33:35.45 That's where he's going, 00:33:35.46\00:33:36.46 go ahead and read verse 2 for us. 00:33:36.47\00:33:39.13 And Jacob said to his household and to all 00:33:39.14\00:33:42.02 who were with him, "Put away the foreign Gods 00:33:42.03\00:33:45.24 that are among you, and purify yourselves, 00:33:45.25\00:33:49.05 and change your garments." 00:33:49.06\00:33:51.19 The three things that Jacob tells his household to do 00:33:51.20\00:33:55.80 or what? there is three things in there. 00:33:55.81\00:33:57.81 Put away the strange Gods. So Jacob says, 00:34:05.29\00:34:07.69 you guys need to purify yourselves, 00:34:07.70\00:34:09.92 you need to put away the strange Gods 00:34:09.93\00:34:11.61 and you need to change your clothes. 00:34:11.62\00:34:14.56 Why does he tell them that? 00:34:14.57\00:34:19.73 Because they're going to worship God, 00:34:19.74\00:34:21.33 that's absolutely right. 00:34:21.34\00:34:23.99 How did they interpret what Jacob told them to do? 00:34:24.00\00:34:30.20 Jacob said three things, what were they? 00:34:30.21\00:34:32.88 Put away the strange Gods, be clean, 00:34:32.89\00:34:35.78 and change your garments. 00:34:35.79\00:34:38.11 How did they understand change your garments, 00:34:38.12\00:34:41.70 put away the strange Gods, and be clean? 00:34:41.71\00:34:44.21 Let's go to verse 4. 00:34:44.22\00:34:48.89 "So they gave Jacob all the foreign Gods 00:34:48.90\00:34:52.05 that were in their hands and the earrings 00:34:52.06\00:34:54.42 which were in their ear and Jacob hid them 00:34:54.43\00:34:58.19 under the terebinth tree which was by Shechem." 00:34:58.20\00:35:03.40 What was the response of Jacob's family 00:35:03.41\00:35:08.74 when Jacob said, we're gonna go worship God, 00:35:08.75\00:35:12.46 and the reason we're gonna go to Bethel 00:35:12.47\00:35:14.46 and the reason we are going to Bethel 00:35:14.47\00:35:15.72 is to make is to make an altar to God to worship God. 00:35:15.73\00:35:18.79 How did they understand or what was their action 00:35:18.80\00:35:23.48 showed there interpretation of what he said 00:35:23.49\00:35:25.52 and what was there actions maybe that's 00:35:25.53\00:35:27.18 the best way to ask you. 00:35:27.19\00:35:29.34 They took most of it off. The jewelry. 00:35:29.35\00:35:31.19 They took their jewelry off. 00:35:31.20\00:35:33.21 What else did they do? 00:35:33.22\00:35:35.49 They give him the foreign Gods 00:35:35.50\00:35:37.07 they were among them, 00:35:37.08\00:35:40.56 is that right? Yeah. 00:35:40.57\00:35:42.08 They gave Jacob the foreign Gods 00:35:42.09\00:35:44.62 that were among them and they gave Jacob 00:35:44.63\00:35:47.62 the golden earrings which were in their ears. 00:35:47.63\00:35:53.73 Why did they do that? 00:35:53.74\00:35:55.02 Why did they do that? 00:35:57.88\00:36:00.61 Because they're going to go worship God. 00:36:00.62\00:36:04.23 Now some of what Paul said to us is making sense. 00:36:04.24\00:36:08.61 Paul said I determined not to know any thing 00:36:08.62\00:36:10.28 among you, save Jesus Christ and him crucified. 00:36:10.29\00:36:13.19 Jacob tells his family we're gonna go worship God, 00:36:13.20\00:36:16.77 you need to put away the foreign Gods 00:36:16.78\00:36:18.32 that are among you, you need to change 00:36:18.33\00:36:19.99 your garments and purify yourself. 00:36:20.00\00:36:22.90 Their response to what he tells them to do 00:36:22.91\00:36:25.80 is to take of their adornment, to change their clothes, 00:36:25.81\00:36:29.29 and to get read to worship God. 00:36:29.30\00:36:32.51 I'm determined not to know anything among you, 00:36:32.52\00:36:34.05 save Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 00:36:34.06\00:36:36.50 The way that we dress, the things 00:36:36.51\00:36:39.52 that put in our bodies is an indication, 00:36:39.53\00:36:43.98 it's an outward indication of the one 00:36:43.99\00:36:47.16 that we worship, isn't that amazing? 00:36:47.17\00:36:51.23 And we're just pulling these principles 00:36:51.24\00:36:53.13 out of Old Testament scripture. 00:36:53.14\00:36:54.96 Let's go to our next one. 00:36:54.97\00:36:56.79 Let's go any questions on that first one there. 00:36:56.80\00:37:00.91 So when I'm giving this Bible study, 00:37:00.92\00:37:02.64 I'm literally asking the people 00:37:02.65\00:37:04.46 that I'm giving the Bible study 00:37:04.47\00:37:05.44 the same questions that I'm asking you. 00:37:05.45\00:37:07.19 What did Jacob tell them to do? Three things? 00:37:07.20\00:37:10.22 Why did he tell them to do that? 00:37:10.23\00:37:11.99 They were going to worship God at Bethel. 00:37:12.00\00:37:14.17 What was their response? 00:37:14.18\00:37:16.50 And their response was to take off their jewelry, 00:37:16.51\00:37:19.19 to change their garments, 00:37:19.20\00:37:20.59 to prepare themselves to worship God. 00:37:20.60\00:37:22.15 So we go to our next reference there. 00:37:22.16\00:37:23.64 We're going to Exodus 33, I love Exodus 33. 00:37:23.65\00:37:27.80 Exodus 33:1 through 6 is the graphic 00:37:27.81\00:37:30.37 that you see there. 00:37:30.38\00:37:31.46 So Genesis, Exodus 33, we'll began reading 00:37:31.47\00:37:36.87 in verse 1, and Danielle, if you could go ahead 00:37:36.88\00:37:39.32 and get that microphone there, 00:37:39.33\00:37:41.78 Exodus 33 verses 1 through 6. 00:37:41.79\00:37:44.91 And I'm going to interrupt you just like 00:37:44.92\00:37:46.48 I did Darlene, all right. 00:37:46.49\00:37:47.98 So you go ahead and read for us. 00:37:47.99\00:37:50.17 "And the Lord said unto Moses, 00:37:50.18\00:37:52.11 Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people 00:37:52.12\00:37:54.37 which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, 00:37:54.38\00:37:57.21 unto the land which I swear unto Abraham, 00:37:57.22\00:37:59.62 to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, 00:37:59.63\00:38:01.59 Unto thy seed will I give it." 00:38:01.60\00:38:03.81 Okay, stop right there. 00:38:03.82\00:38:05.13 Who is doing the talking? 00:38:05.14\00:38:06.54 God is doing the talking. 00:38:08.54\00:38:09.69 Go ahead and read verse 2. 00:38:09.70\00:38:11.49 "And I will send My Angel before thee, 00:38:11.50\00:38:13.94 and I will drive out the Canaanite, 00:38:13.95\00:38:15.68 and the Amorite, and the Hittite, 00:38:15.69\00:38:17.30 and the Perizzite, the Hivite, 00:38:17.31\00:38:19.77 and the Jebusite." Verse 3. 00:38:19.78\00:38:21.98 "Unto a land flowing with milk and honey; 00:38:21.99\00:38:24.12 for I will not go up in the midst of thee 00:38:24.13\00:38:26.14 for thou are a stiff-necked people 00:38:26.15\00:38:28.23 lest I consume thee in the way." 00:38:28.24\00:38:30.57 So God tells the children of Israel 00:38:30.58\00:38:33.39 that they are what? 00:38:33.40\00:38:34.67 Stiff-necked. Stiff-necked. 00:38:34.68\00:38:35.77 You know, I actually woke up this morning 00:38:35.78\00:38:37.04 with a stiff-necked and I hope 00:38:37.05\00:38:38.03 that's not what that means. 00:38:38.04\00:38:39.63 What that really means to be stiff-necked 00:38:39.64\00:38:42.22 is that you will not bow or worship. 00:38:42.23\00:38:46.35 God tells him they're stiff-necked, 00:38:46.36\00:38:48.40 they're rebellious. Why does God say 00:38:48.41\00:38:53.61 that the children of Israel are rebellious, 00:38:53.62\00:38:56.75 let's keep reading there. And let's go to verse 4. 00:38:56.76\00:39:02.56 "And when the people heard these evil tidings, 00:39:02.57\00:39:04.78 they mourned, and no man 00:39:04.79\00:39:06.28 did put on him his ornaments." 00:39:06.29\00:39:08.21 Okay, why didn't they put on their ornaments? 00:39:08.22\00:39:14.43 Now that's exactly what most people say, 00:39:14.44\00:39:16.42 they say well, they were in mourning. 00:39:16.43\00:39:17.77 Nobody gets dressed up when they're in mourning. 00:39:17.78\00:39:20.27 I mean, you put on black, you go to-- 00:39:20.28\00:39:22.40 when you're mourning for somebody that you've lost, 00:39:22.41\00:39:24.73 you go to the funeral, 00:39:24.74\00:39:25.72 you're not happy, you're mourning. 00:39:25.73\00:39:27.27 You don't get dressed up for those things. 00:39:27.28\00:39:30.76 but they were mourning because God said 00:39:30.77\00:39:33.06 they were stiff-necked and rebellious. 00:39:33.07\00:39:35.29 What did they do that God, 00:39:35.30\00:39:39.06 that caused God to say 00:39:39.07\00:39:40.13 they were stiff-nicked and rebellious. 00:39:40.14\00:39:41.78 We could account for many things 00:39:41.79\00:39:43.88 that they had done, but what does it say 00:39:43.89\00:39:45.76 here in the context of this verse. 00:39:45.77\00:39:47.60 So, Danielle, we'll go ahead now 00:39:47.61\00:39:49.15 and we will read verse 5, 00:39:49.16\00:39:52.65 Exodus 33 and verse 5. 00:39:52.66\00:39:56.17 "For the Lord had said unto Moses." 00:39:56.18\00:39:58.01 Okay, stop right there, for the Lord what? 00:39:58.02\00:40:01.62 The Lord had said, is that past, present, or future? 00:40:01.63\00:40:04.91 Past. That's past. 00:40:04.92\00:40:06.82 For the Lord had said we could say, 00:40:06.83\00:40:08.99 for the Lord had already said this. 00:40:09.00\00:40:11.68 Would that be the same thing? 00:40:11.69\00:40:12.96 For the Lord had said, this is in the past, 00:40:12.97\00:40:15.83 the Lord had said what, Danielle? 00:40:15.84\00:40:18.00 "Say unto the children of Israel, 00:40:18.01\00:40:19.82 Ye are a stiff necked people, 00:40:19.83\00:40:21.47 I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, 00:40:21.48\00:40:24.17 and consume thee, therefore now put off 00:40:24.18\00:40:27.36 thy ornaments from thee, 00:40:27.37\00:40:28.92 that I may know what to do unto thee." 00:40:28.93\00:40:31.84 So God had told them beforehand 00:40:31.85\00:40:35.42 to take off their, what? 00:40:35.43\00:40:37.06 Ornaments. Ornaments. 00:40:37.07\00:40:39.64 What is an ornament? Jewelry. 00:40:39.65\00:40:42.50 You know, if you're thinking about 00:40:42.51\00:40:43.87 Christmas time what's an ornament? 00:40:43.88\00:40:46.01 It's a decoration that you hang on tree. 00:40:46.02\00:40:50.50 Here, the Bible says that they, 00:40:50.51\00:40:53.35 that they God told them to take off thy ornaments, 00:40:53.36\00:40:57.10 so that God could know what to do with them. 00:40:57.11\00:41:01.09 The way that we dress, the things 00:41:01.10\00:41:04.31 we put on the outside of us are an indication 00:41:04.32\00:41:09.97 of our inward condition, 00:41:09.98\00:41:12.98 an indication of our inward condition. 00:41:12.99\00:41:15.78 God had told them to take them off, 00:41:15.79\00:41:21.09 they were stiff-nicked, they were rebellious. 00:41:21.10\00:41:24.68 And it's not until God says, all right, 00:41:24.69\00:41:27.02 I'm gonna send my angel before you, 00:41:27.03\00:41:28.46 but I'm not going to let you into the Land of Canaan. 00:41:28.47\00:41:30.84 They're like, oh, we gotta get this off. 00:41:30.85\00:41:36.47 What is it say there in verse 6, 00:41:36.48\00:41:37.85 this is exactly what he says, they took them off. 00:41:37.86\00:41:40.44 "And the children of Israel stripped themselves 00:41:40.45\00:41:42.53 of their ornaments by the Mount Horeb." 00:41:42.54\00:41:45.11 So what did they do? Took off their jewelry. 00:41:45.12\00:41:48.48 They took off their jewelry. 00:41:48.49\00:41:50.32 The original language gives us the indication there 00:41:50.33\00:41:53.80 that they took off their-- 00:41:53.81\00:41:55.93 they stripped themselves of their ornaments 00:41:55.94\00:41:58.32 from Mount Horeb onward. 00:41:58.33\00:42:02.05 The indication is that, that they recognized 00:42:02.06\00:42:04.59 that they had gonna way too far. 00:42:04.60\00:42:06.72 They stripped themselves of their ornaments 00:42:06.73\00:42:09.18 and what has just happened 00:42:09.19\00:42:10.44 in the chapter previous this? 00:42:10.45\00:42:13.03 What has just happened in Exodus 32? 00:42:13.04\00:42:15.69 Golden Calf. The Golden Calf. 00:42:15.70\00:42:17.86 You remember they had taken 00:42:17.87\00:42:19.62 some of their jewelry 00:42:19.63\00:42:21.17 and they had made a God, hadn't they? 00:42:21.18\00:42:24.87 It's a very interesting when we give this Bible study, 00:42:24.88\00:42:28.53 that people will say, my jewelry doesn't 00:42:28.54\00:42:32.00 separate me from God. 00:42:32.01\00:42:35.26 If God asks us to take it off 00:42:35.27\00:42:40.03 and we refused to take it off, 00:42:40.04\00:42:44.03 does our jewelry affect our relationship with God? 00:42:44.04\00:42:48.27 It does. It does, it does. 00:42:48.28\00:42:52.81 I remember, when I was converted, 00:42:52.82\00:42:55.05 I was driving an 18 wheeler, the big rig. 00:42:55.06\00:42:59.17 I had a sliver ring on every one of my fingers. 00:42:59.18\00:43:04.41 Now Shalita gave me that look like, 00:43:04.42\00:43:05.91 eww, that's gross but, I liked it. 00:43:05.92\00:43:08.79 I had other jewelry on my body. 00:43:08.80\00:43:13.02 And when I studied the word of God, 00:43:13.03\00:43:16.64 I said to myself, this stuff is plumb ridiculous. 00:43:16.65\00:43:22.36 What in the world, some of them were harder 00:43:22.37\00:43:27.97 to get off than others, but they all came out. 00:43:27.98\00:43:30.91 Every piece of jewelry on my body came off 00:43:30.92\00:43:32.76 because I did not want God to look at me and say, 00:43:32.77\00:43:37.04 Scott, you are rebellious. 00:43:37.05\00:43:41.41 I wanted God to look at me and say, 00:43:41.42\00:43:43.22 that's my solider right there. That's my soldier. 00:43:43.23\00:43:49.25 And so now we'll continue to look through 00:43:49.26\00:43:51.65 the Old Testament because Paul had lots of evidence 00:43:51.66\00:43:54.98 in the Old Testament to backup the reason 00:43:54.99\00:43:57.29 he would say not to adorn ourselves with gold 00:43:57.30\00:44:00.64 or pearls, or costly array 00:44:00.65\00:44:02.73 but to be dressed modestly. 00:44:02.74\00:44:05.38 Let's go to Judges the 8 Chapter the 24 verse. 00:44:05.39\00:44:09.50 This is our 11th text, 00:44:09.51\00:44:11.09 Judges Chapter 8 and verse 24. 00:44:11.10\00:44:16.06 Judges Chapter 8, so we turn into the right 00:44:16.07\00:44:18.12 from where we are Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, 00:44:18.13\00:44:21.51 Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, that's right. 00:44:21.52\00:44:25.76 And we're going to Judges Chapter 8 and verse 24. 00:44:25.77\00:44:31.48 Judges Chapter 8 verse 24 there were actually 00:44:31.49\00:44:34.18 groups of people that were recognized 00:44:34.19\00:44:37.28 by the jewelry that they wore. 00:44:37.29\00:44:40.74 And the Bible says here and Ryan's gonna read 00:44:40.75\00:44:42.88 this for us, Judges Chapter 8 and verse 24. 00:44:42.89\00:44:48.92 "And Gideon said unto them, 00:44:48.93\00:44:50.38 I would desire a request of you, 00:44:50.39\00:44:53.41 that ye would give me every man 00:44:53.42\00:44:55.29 the earrings of his prey. 00:44:55.30\00:44:56.91 They had golden earrings, 00:44:56.92\00:44:58.84 because they were Ishmaelites." 00:44:58.85\00:45:01.68 The thing that identified someone 00:45:01.69\00:45:03.37 as an Ishmaelite was what? 00:45:03.38\00:45:05.15 Golden earrings. The golden earrings. 00:45:05.16\00:45:07.92 Now, was Ishmael and the Ishmaelites 00:45:07.93\00:45:11.31 were they the chosen one 00:45:11.32\00:45:13.08 that the lineage of Christ was going to come through? 00:45:13.81\00:45:15.43 No. No, they weren't? 00:45:15.44\00:45:17.29 Here we see that these people were known 00:45:17.30\00:45:20.72 by the fact that they had golden earnings in their ears. 00:45:20.73\00:45:25.88 God wants us to be known by so much more 00:45:25.89\00:45:29.14 than just what's on the outside. 00:45:29.15\00:45:31.74 God wants us to be known just like Job was known. 00:45:31.75\00:45:35.42 Job in the councils their in heaven, 00:45:35.43\00:45:38.27 Satan comes to God and he says, 00:45:38.28\00:45:41.06 or God says to him to Satan, 00:45:41.07\00:45:43.33 have you considered my servant Job? 00:45:43.34\00:45:46.21 And, of course, Satan had, because Satan had nothing 00:45:46.22\00:45:48.68 -- couldn't get to him. 00:45:48.69\00:45:49.66 He says, you put every hedge of protection around him. 00:45:49.67\00:45:52.47 This is found in Book of Job in the Old Testament. 00:45:52.48\00:45:56.08 Does God, would God be able to say that for each one of us? 00:45:56.09\00:46:00.73 Would God be able to say, consider my servant 00:46:00.74\00:46:03.72 Ms. Gloria, consider her. Consider my servant Bill. 00:46:03.73\00:46:11.49 We're gonna see now in the Old Testament, 00:46:11.50\00:46:14.09 now some people maybe getting upset 00:46:14.10\00:46:15.75 with what's happening here. 00:46:15.76\00:46:17.54 But, remember we learned in our first week here 00:46:17.55\00:46:20.75 at LIFE, that conviction is the voice of God 00:46:20.76\00:46:25.25 speaking to us to us, and we can react 00:46:25.26\00:46:28.17 in lots of different ways and one of those ways 00:46:28.18\00:46:30.43 is happiness over God given us the truth 00:46:30.44\00:46:32.75 and the other way we can react is anger 00:46:32.76\00:46:36.44 at the presenter for presenting God's truth. 00:46:36.45\00:46:40.85 I would like to apologize on behalf of 00:46:40.86\00:46:43.45 every minister that you have ever made, 00:46:43.46\00:46:46.46 ever been able to meet in your life 00:46:46.47\00:46:50.52 some of which have drawn you 00:46:50.53\00:46:52.04 closer to Christ than others. 00:46:52.05\00:46:53.80 I want to apologize on their behalf 00:46:53.81\00:46:55.79 that we have not shared with you all of the truth 00:46:55.80\00:46:59.83 even when it came to something 00:46:59.84\00:47:01.08 that you would get upset about. 00:47:01.09\00:47:02.84 So accept our apology and accept God's truth. 00:47:02.85\00:47:07.35 We're gonna go now to another reference in scripture 00:47:07.36\00:47:09.98 that shows how Hosea, 00:47:09.99\00:47:12.54 Hosea's wife Gomer would dress when she went out, 00:47:12.55\00:47:16.66 you know, Hosea was told by God 00:47:16.67\00:47:18.58 that he needed to marry, do you remember, 00:47:18.59\00:47:20.45 he needed to marry a what? A harlot. 00:47:20.46\00:47:22.14 A harlot or a prostitute. How was it that she looked, 00:47:22.15\00:47:26.90 what did she do when she went out and forgot the Lord. 00:47:26.91\00:47:30.61 We're going to Hosea, so you have Ezekiel, Daniel, 00:47:30.62\00:47:34.89 Hosea there we are. 00:47:34.90\00:47:36.83 Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea 00:47:36.84\00:47:38.58 we're going to Hosea 2 and verse 13. 00:47:38.59\00:47:43.11 Hosea 2:13 and we'll go ahead and let who we've got there. 00:47:43.12\00:47:47.42 We got Bill, is that-- Bill gonna read that. 00:47:47.43\00:47:49.97 So Bill, we'll get that microphone over to you. 00:47:49.98\00:47:53.56 Hosea 2 and verse 13. 00:47:53.57\00:47:57.76 "I will punish her for the days of the Baals 00:47:57.77\00:48:00.56 to which she burns incense, she decked herself 00:48:00.57\00:48:03.70 with earrings and jewelry, and went after her lovers, 00:48:03.71\00:48:07.52 but me she forgot says the Lord." 00:48:07.53\00:48:10.14 Isn't that interesting? 00:48:10.15\00:48:12.32 God tells His people or God tells Jacob 00:48:12.33\00:48:15.94 that he needs to go to Bethel and worship Him. 00:48:15.95\00:48:18.57 And Jacob tells his family to get the strange Gods out 00:48:18.58\00:48:22.54 from among them, change their garments, 00:48:22.55\00:48:24.41 and to be sanctified, get read to worship God, 00:48:24.42\00:48:27.09 and so they're getting closer to God, 00:48:27.10\00:48:29.06 so they take it off. 00:48:29.07\00:48:30.75 Here we see that this prostitute 00:48:30.76\00:48:33.43 who is the prophet of the Lord's wife, 00:48:33.44\00:48:40.07 she forgets the Lord, puts it all on 00:48:40.08\00:48:44.91 and goes out to commit her atrocities. 00:48:44.92\00:48:49.41 What is that, what are you saying that? 00:48:49.42\00:48:51.30 Did you say a prophet of the Lord? 00:48:51.31\00:48:52.85 That's right Hosea was the prophet of the Lord, 00:48:52.86\00:48:54.47 wasn't he? Yeah. 00:48:54.48\00:48:55.86 Yeah and he was married to Gomer, his wife. 00:48:55.87\00:48:58.67 So the prophet of the Lord's wife 00:48:58.68\00:49:00.81 right okay, very nice. 00:49:00.82\00:49:03.74 So we see again in scripture, 00:49:03.75\00:49:05.56 when Jacob's family is going to come 00:49:05.57\00:49:07.42 to worship the Lord, they take it off. 00:49:07.43\00:49:10.63 When Hosea's wife Gomer is going to be 00:49:10.64\00:49:13.47 with her lover she forgets the Lord 00:49:13.48\00:49:15.02 and does what with it, and puts it on. 00:49:15.03\00:49:17.66 And my friend, we could go 00:49:17.67\00:49:18.64 to reference after reference after reference 00:49:18.65\00:49:21.12 in the Old Testament to find where Paul gets 00:49:21.13\00:49:24.35 his authority for saying 00:49:24.36\00:49:27.01 that we should not adorn ourselves. 00:49:27.02\00:49:28.90 Let's go now to First Timothy Chapter 2 00:49:28.91\00:49:31.91 our next reference. First Timothy Chapter 2, 00:49:31.92\00:49:36.89 First Timothy is in the T section, 00:49:36.90\00:49:38.69 First Timothy Chapter 2 verses 9 and 10 00:49:38.70\00:49:42.07 we've been there once 00:49:42.08\00:49:43.11 and we're asking ourselves this question. 00:49:43.12\00:49:44.87 If God doesn't want us to be adorned on the outside, 00:49:44.88\00:49:47.53 what does God want us to be adorned with, 00:49:47.54\00:49:50.64 and Mike, we'll let you read that. 00:49:50.65\00:49:52.56 First Timothy Chapter 2 verses 9 and 10. 00:49:52.57\00:49:58.26 "I will therefore that men pray every where, 00:49:58.27\00:50:00.52 lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 00:50:00.53\00:50:04.96 In like manner also, that the women adorn 00:50:04.97\00:50:07.25 themselves in modest apparel, 00:50:07.26\00:50:09.13 with shamefacedness and sobriety, 00:50:09.14\00:50:11.66 not with broided hair, 00:50:11.67\00:50:12.98 or gold, or pearls, or costly array." 00:50:12.99\00:50:16.73 Verse 10. "But, which become with women 00:50:16.74\00:50:21.24 professing godliness, with good works." 00:50:21.25\00:50:23.45 What does God want us to be adorned with? 00:50:23.46\00:50:27.27 Good works. Good works. 00:50:27.28\00:50:29.41 What does God want us not to be adorned with? 00:50:29.42\00:50:33.56 Gold, jewels, pearls, costly array. 00:50:33.57\00:50:37.79 God's wants our beauty not to be on the outside, 00:50:37.80\00:50:40.63 but to come from the inside. 00:50:40.64\00:50:43.81 Have you ever looked at a person 00:50:43.82\00:50:44.95 and just said to yourself, 00:50:44.96\00:50:45.93 man that person is very peaceful. 00:50:45.94\00:50:48.88 That comes from having that relationship with God 00:50:48.89\00:50:51.62 where you know that your life is pleasing him 00:50:51.63\00:50:55.34 in every aspect. Some people say what, 00:50:55.35\00:51:00.02 you know, but, you know, my husband gave me this 00:51:00.03\00:51:02.93 or my son gave me this or my dad gave me this. 00:51:02.94\00:51:05.56 Let's go to our next text, 00:51:05.57\00:51:06.72 it's right there in First Timothy as well. 00:51:06.73\00:51:08.75 First Timothy Chapter 6 and verse 6, 00:51:08.76\00:51:13.08 First Timothy Chapter 6 and verse 6, 00:51:13.09\00:51:16.95 and Anita, we're gonna ask Anita to read this. 00:51:16.96\00:51:19.21 So if you could read that for us in First Timothy 00:51:19.22\00:51:21.38 Chapter 6 and verse 6, what is say there very short verse. 00:51:21.39\00:51:26.24 "But godliness with contentment is great gain." 00:51:26.25\00:51:30.89 Godliness with contentment is great gain. 00:51:30.90\00:51:34.41 For some of us it may be very difficult 00:51:34.42\00:51:37.64 to take all of the stuff we've worn all of our lives. 00:51:37.65\00:51:42.86 It may be very difficult 00:51:42.87\00:51:46.26 but God says that godliness 00:51:46.27\00:51:48.43 with contentment is great gain. 00:51:48.44\00:51:53.79 Is it possible that we could be living 00:51:53.80\00:51:58.09 part of our life doing things dressing in a certain way, 00:51:58.10\00:52:02.03 wearing certain things that would displease our creator? 00:52:02.04\00:52:06.70 You know, one minister said it this way once. 00:52:06.71\00:52:08.98 He said, you know, if God had wanted me to wear Jewelery 00:52:08.99\00:52:11.49 He would have put it on me when He created me. 00:52:11.50\00:52:15.22 Another one said something like this, 00:52:15.23\00:52:16.99 they said, you know, if a perfect sinless angel 00:52:17.00\00:52:21.72 named Lucifer was lifted up because of his beauty, 00:52:21.73\00:52:29.32 then what makes me think I can put something 00:52:29.33\00:52:31.36 on the outside of my body and not get proud. 00:52:31.37\00:52:37.88 The Bible says here, the Bible is teaching us 00:52:37.89\00:52:40.14 the reason or the principle that Paul gives us 00:52:40.15\00:52:43.39 in the word of God. 00:52:43.40\00:52:45.43 For letting the light of God shine through our lives, 00:52:45.44\00:52:50.77 not through street pavement from heaven. 00:52:50.78\00:52:56.82 Do you understand the jewels in heaven 00:52:56.83\00:52:58.78 will be the walls, the foundation, 00:52:58.79\00:53:01.16 the gates, all of that. 00:53:01.17\00:53:03.94 God says take it off, the world says what? 00:53:07.44\00:53:11.07 Put it on. Put it on. 00:53:11.08\00:53:12.54 Let's turn to First Corinthians 00:53:12.55\00:53:15.40 Chapter 2 and verse 2. 00:53:15.41\00:53:17.83 First Corinthians Chapter 2 and verse 2 00:53:17.84\00:53:20.74 is our next reference and we'll get Tom 00:53:20.75\00:53:22.99 to read this for us so you can get set up there, Tom. 00:53:23.00\00:53:26.22 First Corinthians Chapter 2 verse 2. 00:53:26.23\00:53:28.95 Paul the one that gives us this New Testament counsel 00:53:28.96\00:53:32.97 says this in First Corinthians 2:2. 00:53:32.98\00:53:35.02 We alluded to this earlier. 00:53:35.03\00:53:37.43 "For I determine not to know any thing among you, 00:53:37.44\00:53:40.43 expect Jesus Christ, and Him crucified." 00:53:40.44\00:53:43.51 So what was Paul's thrust behind 00:53:43.52\00:53:46.07 all of the Biblical counsel that he gives? 00:53:46.08\00:53:50.69 To know Jesus Christ. 00:53:50.70\00:53:52.16 To know Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 00:53:52.17\00:53:55.03 So why then would Paul mention 00:53:55.04\00:53:57.96 the way that we dress, being dressed modestly 00:53:57.97\00:54:01.33 and not putting things on the exterior of our bodies. 00:54:01.34\00:54:04.69 Why would he mention that? 00:54:04.70\00:54:06.01 He knew those things will draw us away from our relationship. 00:54:08.34\00:54:11.34 He knew those things would draw us away 00:54:11.35\00:54:13.34 from our relationship to Christ. 00:54:13.35\00:54:14.82 And somebody right now is thinking to themselves 00:54:14.83\00:54:16.89 that doesn't draw me away from Christ. 00:54:16.90\00:54:19.86 But if God is asking us to do something 00:54:19.87\00:54:23.22 and we choose not to do, then are we getting 00:54:23.23\00:54:25.97 closer to Christ or are we getting 00:54:25.98\00:54:27.80 further away from Christ? Further away. 00:54:27.81\00:54:30.47 Further away from Christ, that's absolutely right. 00:54:30.48\00:54:34.34 Our last reference in this study 00:54:34.35\00:54:37.68 is one of our appeal texts and I'll go ahead 00:54:37.69\00:54:40.30 and read this because when I'm giving 00:54:40.31\00:54:42.02 the Bible studies I'll read my appeals 00:54:42.03\00:54:44.41 because I want to make sure that-- 00:54:44.42\00:54:46.38 that what I have in my last several texts-- 00:54:46.39\00:54:49.48 is iterated exactly the way we want to bring it out. 00:54:49.49\00:54:52.64 So we're going to Hebrews Chapter 11, 00:54:52.65\00:54:55.38 so we're turning to the right from Corinthians 00:54:55.39\00:54:58.07 we'll go past the T section 00:54:58.08\00:55:00.20 and we're going to Hebrews Chapter 11 and verse 6. 00:55:00.21\00:55:07.95 The Bible says in Hebrews Chapter 11 and verse 6, 00:55:07.96\00:55:12.14 and incidentally this right after the testimony 00:55:12.15\00:55:15.29 that was given of Enoch, right. 00:55:15.30\00:55:16.62 Let's read verse 5 as well. 00:55:16.63\00:55:18.13 "By faith Enoch was translated 00:55:18.14\00:55:20.78 that he should not see death, and was not found, 00:55:20.79\00:55:24.90 because God had translated him, 00:55:24.91\00:55:27.90 for before his translation he had this testimony" 00:55:27.91\00:55:31.41 that he did what? That he pleased God. 00:55:31.42\00:55:33.05 "That he pleased God." Verse 6. 00:55:33.06\00:55:36.07 "But without faith it is impossible to please God. 00:55:36.08\00:55:41.18 For he that cometh to God must believe that he is, 00:55:41.19\00:55:44.84 and that he is a rewarder of them 00:55:44.85\00:55:48.31 that diligently seek him." 00:55:48.32\00:55:51.88 God rewards us when we diligently seek Him. 00:55:51.89\00:55:59.43 My friend, you and I are not saved 00:55:59.44\00:56:02.08 by what we wear or what we put on. 00:56:02.09\00:56:05.77 But, you will remember that we're judged by our works. 00:56:05.78\00:56:10.69 Do our works reflect the character of Christ? 00:56:10.70\00:56:16.44 Does our clothing reflect the character of Christ? 00:56:16.45\00:56:23.99 You know, the only thing they had at the cross 00:56:24.00\00:56:26.86 that was a value to gamble over 00:56:26.87\00:56:29.11 was Christ's undergarment that went from His shoulders 00:56:29.12\00:56:32.17 all the way down to His feet that was woven without a sin. 00:56:32.18\00:56:38.58 Scripture never tells us than our redeemer 00:56:38.59\00:56:42.46 wore something to bring attention to himself. 00:56:42.47\00:56:46.83 And God is asking you, what would keep you, 00:56:46.84\00:56:52.79 what would keep you from reflecting 00:56:52.80\00:56:55.76 the character of Christ in the way that you dress 00:56:55.77\00:57:00.82 and in the way that you adorn your body. 00:57:00.83\00:57:04.14 Jacob's family said, I'm taking it off. 00:57:04.15\00:57:07.43 Adam and Eve says, God we'll wear your clothes. 00:57:07.44\00:57:12.02 Gomer said, forget God and Hosea 00:57:12.03\00:57:16.67 I'm gonna do what I wanna do. 00:57:16.68\00:57:18.76 What will be your heart's response to Jesus today? 00:57:18.77\00:57:25.17 What are you going to do with the truth 00:57:25.18\00:57:26.71 that He has shared with you? 00:57:26.72\00:57:31.53 As you consider this, I want you to make sure 00:57:31.54\00:57:35.47 that your life is ready, 00:57:35.48\00:57:38.07 that you're ready to meet Jesus 00:57:38.08\00:57:41.05 and we'll be there with you. 00:57:41.06\00:57:42.82
