The harvest truly is plenteous but the laborers are few. 00:00:01.98\00:00:03.44 Pray ye, therefore, the Lord of the harvest 00:00:03.74\00:00:06.36 that He will.. He will send forth laborers into His harvest. 00:00:06.56\00:00:10.38 Also, I heard the voice of the Lord say: 00:00:10.68\00:00:13.33 "Who shall I send? " "And who will go for us? " 00:00:13.63\00:00:17.61 Then said I: "Here am I... send me, send me. " 00:00:17.91\00:00:23.00 Life on the Edge will enable you to be an effective harvester 00:00:23.30\00:00:26.76 for the Lord. We now invite you into our classroom 00:00:26.96\00:00:30.09 to Come Experience Life. 00:00:30.29\00:00:34.43 Hello, welcome back to the Lay Institute for Evangelism. 00:00:43.45\00:00:46.30 You're joining us here today actually in our class 00:00:46.50\00:00:48.67 at Pine Lake Retreat in sunny Florida. 00:00:48.88\00:00:51.20 Today we're going to be going over a study 00:00:51.40\00:00:52.89 on the Spirit of Prophecy. 00:00:52.99\00:00:54.22 We're going to be looking at how God throughout history 00:00:54.32\00:00:56.96 has guided His church with 00:00:57.06\00:00:58.35 prophets. And actually the... 00:00:58.48\00:00:59.67 that gift of prophecy actually comes down into the last days 00:00:59.77\00:01:02.82 of earth's history to God's remnant church. 00:01:03.02\00:01:05.26 His last day people also will experience that... 00:01:05.46\00:01:07.71 that gift of prophecy. That's what we're going to be 00:01:07.81\00:01:09.34 studying today. As we get into our study... 00:01:09.44\00:01:11.91 Before we get into our study I should say... 00:01:12.11\00:01:13.62 we're going to have a word of prayer. 00:01:13.82\00:01:14.90 So let's bow our heads for a word of prayer. 00:01:15.00\00:01:16.55 Father, I just want to ask right now that as we open up 00:01:16.95\00:01:19.62 Your Word and we study this important subject 00:01:19.72\00:01:22.25 as we teach others how to give Bible studies using 00:01:22.45\00:01:25.73 actually on the Spirit of Prophecy as well as our other 00:01:25.93\00:01:29.67 subjects that you will give us understanding ourselves. 00:01:29.77\00:01:32.11 So Lord, please bless our time together 00:01:32.41\00:01:34.44 both for those of us here and those that are watching 00:01:34.64\00:01:36.45 at home. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen. 00:01:36.55\00:01:38.68 Amen! As you look at the screen here... 00:01:38.98\00:01:40.78 automatically we go to the screen and we find out 00:01:40.88\00:01:42.65 that the Spirit of Prophecy is the title of the study. 00:01:42.85\00:01:44.77 And you'll abbreviate that. Now you remember, as you're 00:01:44.97\00:01:46.76 going through marking up your Bibles, you'll abbreviate 00:01:46.86\00:01:48.89 the Spirit of Prophecy with SP. 00:01:48.99\00:01:50.80 And so once we get into the study you'll see how that works 00:01:51.10\00:01:54.11 out again for those of you that may be seeing this 00:01:54.31\00:01:56.35 for the first time. The purpose of the study 00:01:56.45\00:01:58.47 now is on the screen: 00:01:58.58\00:01:59.58 And that it's also given to us here today in the last days 00:02:04.90\00:02:08.51 as well... through all ages. 00:02:08.62\00:02:09.80 And as we go to the Center It part of the study: 00:02:10.00\00:02:12.81 That's the purpose of the Spirit of Prophecy. 00:02:17.76\00:02:19.56 He gives it to us because He loves us. 00:02:19.66\00:02:21.70 The gift of prophecy as you have looked in your Bibles 00:02:22.00\00:02:24.91 and you've studied your Bibles I'm sure you've read 00:02:25.11\00:02:26.83 that the whole Bible is given to us because of prophets, 00:02:27.03\00:02:29.54 right? And God has guided His people throughout history. 00:02:29.64\00:02:32.11 His church, His people through- out history He would raise up 00:02:32.22\00:02:34.18 prophets at just the right time in order to point the people 00:02:34.28\00:02:37.00 in just the right direction. 00:02:37.10\00:02:38.22 And He hasn't left us here in these last days 00:02:38.32\00:02:40.41 to wonder which way we should go. 00:02:40.61\00:02:41.74 He also gives us a prophet in the last days. 00:02:41.94\00:02:43.71 And that's what we're going to be going through in this study: 00:02:44.01\00:02:46.05 exactly what has God done - even in the last days - 00:02:46.25\00:02:48.96 with this gift of prophecy. 00:02:49.16\00:02:50.91 Now the list of texts that we're going to be going through 00:02:51.04\00:02:53.85 is on the screen now. 00:02:53.95\00:02:54.96 Here's the whole list of texts we're going to be using. 00:02:55.06\00:02:56.66 There's 16 of them plus or minus or actually, plus a couple 00:02:56.77\00:03:00.05 I guess. We'll throw a couple of texts extra 00:03:00.15\00:03:02.57 so you want to have a pencil and paper handy. 00:03:02.67\00:03:04.79 For those of you that are joining us at home 00:03:05.00\00:03:06.62 and maybe this is the first time... maybe you've joined us 00:03:06.82\00:03:09.06 before... I feel like I need to remind you. 00:03:09.16\00:03:10.86 What you need to be doing is you want to have some paper handy... 00:03:11.06\00:03:13.97 just something to write notes on or whatever like that. 00:03:14.07\00:03:17.58 But also, if you would like a copy of the study guides 00:03:17.81\00:03:20.56 that we're using... what the students are using... 00:03:20.66\00:03:23.05 you might not see them have them on their desk 00:03:23.25\00:03:24.49 because they're on their computers... 00:03:24.59\00:03:25.76 but I have a hard copy printed out here. 00:03:25.96\00:03:27.54 And it's the entire study guide for this particular study 00:03:27.74\00:03:31.21 printed out. And you can get it in a Word document 00:03:31.41\00:03:33.53 or a Pages document if you're a Mac user like all of us here. 00:03:33.63\00:03:36.26 And you can find that on our website: 00:03:36.46\00:03:38.54 at www. ComeExperienceLife. com 00:03:38.74\00:03:41.75 So if you go to ComeExperienceLife. com 00:03:41.95\00:03:43.88 you can actually download the study guide. 00:03:44.08\00:03:45.71 You can also watch the video clips. 00:03:45.91\00:03:48.86 Actually the videos... you can download them and watch those 00:03:49.06\00:03:50.83 for all the rest of the studies leading up to this. 00:03:51.03\00:03:53.23 So if you have questions, if I reference something 00:03:53.53\00:03:55.87 during the study and you say: "now wait a minute... 00:03:55.97\00:03:57.23 I don't know how you get that, " 00:03:57.33\00:03:59.47 it's probably something we've covered in an earlier study. 00:03:59.67\00:04:01.66 So if you haven't watched it, you may need to go back 00:04:01.96\00:04:03.36 to pick that up. Again, you can go to our website 00:04:03.47\00:04:05.38 ComeExperienceLife. com to find that. 00:04:05.58\00:04:07.80 So now we're going to get into the bulk, the meat of the study 00:04:08.10\00:04:10.82 you might say, and we're going to begin in Genesis chapter 5. 00:04:10.92\00:04:13.79 Genesis chapter 5 and verses 21 through 29. 00:04:13.99\00:04:16.83 Now as we're turning there, I'm going to share something 00:04:17.13\00:04:21.03 with you... a little personal story. 00:04:21.23\00:04:23.07 Usually whenever we say the word prophet, 00:04:23.37\00:04:26.45 when the word prophet comes up, 00:04:26.65\00:04:28.16 all kinds of things come to mind, don't they? 00:04:28.36\00:04:30.12 You know, I can remember when I was a heathen out in the world 00:04:30.42\00:04:33.58 and I first heard about the idea of a prophet in modern times 00:04:33.78\00:04:38.28 automatically what would come to my mind was not really what 00:04:38.48\00:04:40.89 the Bible refers to as a prophet. But I thought more 00:04:41.00\00:04:43.30 of what you may call a spiritualist. 00:04:43.40\00:04:45.16 You know, when I think of prophet... I used to think of, 00:04:45.36\00:04:47.17 anyway, I used to think of palm reading 00:04:47.27\00:04:48.91 or you know the Tarot card and things like that. 00:04:49.11\00:04:50.99 But when someone said prophet that's just like what came 00:04:51.20\00:04:52.87 to mind automatically. But as I found out from the Bible 00:04:52.98\00:04:56.18 in a Bible perspective that's not what the description 00:04:56.38\00:04:59.18 of a prophet is in the Bible. As a matter of fact, 00:04:59.28\00:05:01.03 those things like that that come to mind actually God condemns. 00:05:01.23\00:05:03.50 Now the reason I'm starting off like this here 00:05:03.81\00:05:06.83 is because this is teaching you how to give a Bible study, 00:05:07.03\00:05:09.86 you know. And we're going to be dealing with different people 00:05:10.06\00:05:11.99 as we give Bible studies. And if you've been raised 00:05:12.09\00:05:14.67 like say in a church setting or something like that 00:05:14.78\00:05:17.72 and you say the word prophet, what comes to mind 00:05:17.92\00:05:20.10 when you say prophet, Mike, is like what we think of 00:05:20.20\00:05:23.06 as a Biblical prophet. Because we're in the church 00:05:23.16\00:05:25.11 we're understanding that. But I want you to understand 00:05:25.31\00:05:27.12 that when you're dealing with someone like in a home 00:05:27.32\00:05:29.14 in a Bible study or something like that 00:05:29.24\00:05:30.63 and you say the word prophet, what comes to mind 00:05:30.83\00:05:33.39 is like Nostradamus 00:05:33.59\00:05:35.08 or you know one of these modern-day spiritualists. 00:05:35.28\00:05:38.77 What are some of the names? 00:05:38.80\00:05:39.83 Is there one by the name of Jean Simpson or something like 00:05:40.03\00:05:42.10 that? Patty... what is it? Duke. Duke? Yeah, anyway 00:05:42.20\00:05:45.53 you see these people like on Oprah or whatever 00:05:45.73\00:05:47.10 and they're like basically fortune tellers. 00:05:47.20\00:05:49.17 But the Bible doesn't talk about those people when it's 00:05:49.37\00:05:51.31 talking about prophets. It actually condemns that. 00:05:51.44\00:05:53.26 But it condones and it has people that, as we're going to 00:05:53.27\00:05:56.25 find out as we go through this study, God has 00:05:56.35\00:05:57.65 a description of what a true Biblical prophet... 00:05:57.75\00:05:59.88 standards that they would meet 00:06:00.08\00:06:01.76 and we're going to find as we go through the study. 00:06:01.96\00:06:03.23 You know, I met... I met a prophet once 00:06:03.43\00:06:05.32 or somebody at least claiming to be that. 00:06:05.52\00:06:06.77 I've met many people that kind of claimed that, 00:06:06.97\00:06:08.39 but one particular story stands out. 00:06:08.49\00:06:10.31 I was a literature evangelist. That's where you go door to door 00:06:10.51\00:06:13.65 you knock on doors. You've seen the blue Bible Story books 00:06:13.85\00:06:15.85 that you find in doctors' offices and things like that? 00:06:15.95\00:06:17.72 And I used to sell those. And usually we'd run on 00:06:17.92\00:06:21.81 lead cards... you know, where people would fill out the card 00:06:21.91\00:06:23.39 at the doctor's office and they would send it in 00:06:23.49\00:06:24.89 and we'd go to the doors. But one day up in Kentucky 00:06:24.99\00:06:27.36 I was in a sub-holler. A sub-holler is where... 00:06:27.46\00:06:30.40 Well a holler is where two hills come together 00:06:30.60\00:06:32.34 and it's in between there that's the holler where you go 00:06:32.54\00:06:34.58 up the middle of a hill: that's what they call a holler 00:06:34.68\00:06:36.75 in Kentucky. Well, I was up in a holler working 00:06:36.95\00:06:38.48 just knocking on doors, and I went into a sub-holler. 00:06:38.68\00:06:40.68 That's a holler that's off of a holler, right? 00:06:40.88\00:06:42.76 And I go in there and it's just a whole bunch of little trailers 00:06:42.97\00:06:45.61 and stuff down through there. And I'm going to the doors 00:06:45.71\00:06:47.50 knocking on them. And I come to this one door 00:06:47.70\00:06:49.71 and the lady comes to the door - we're in the middle of nowhere 00:06:49.91\00:06:52.85 in Kentucky, like I said in a sub-holler - 00:06:53.05\00:06:54.96 and it's in eastern Kentucky area. 00:06:55.16\00:06:57.70 Yeah, that's where I was, towards eastern Kentucky, 00:06:57.90\00:06:59.59 I guess. And the lady comes to the door 00:06:59.69\00:07:02.73 and she invites me right on in. And we sat down in her 00:07:02.93\00:07:06.55 living room. And as soon as I sat down and started showing her 00:07:06.65\00:07:08.38 the book - you know, that I was selling - 00:07:08.48\00:07:10.51 the phone rings. And so she said "excuse me. " 00:07:10.71\00:07:13.64 She answered the phone and she said; "Oh, yeah, just... 00:07:13.74\00:07:14.98 I'll tell you what. Just call me back here in a few minutes. " 00:07:15.18\00:07:16.89 So she hung up the phone and we get right back into it. 00:07:17.10\00:07:20.33 And I open up the stuff again and start showing it to her 00:07:20.53\00:07:22.12 and her phone rings. And by the way, all the time that her 00:07:22.32\00:07:24.86 phone is ringing she has these three little boys like this big, 00:07:25.07\00:07:26.64 this big, and this big. I mean they're real close together... 00:07:26.74\00:07:28.39 maybe a year apart. 00:07:28.59\00:07:30.53 And they're just wrestling and making all kinds of racket. 00:07:30.73\00:07:33.54 They're getting in my case pulling my stuff out. 00:07:33.64\00:07:35.24 They're pulling on my shirt; they're trying to get my 00:07:35.44\00:07:36.89 attention. I mean it's just chaotic in the house. 00:07:36.99\00:07:38.90 And the phone just rang again the second time. 00:07:39.10\00:07:40.90 She says: "Oh yeah, just call me back here 00:07:41.10\00:07:42.19 in just a little bit. " So she hangs up the phone 00:07:42.29\00:07:44.06 and a few minutes later... I mean, it wasn't... 00:07:44.26\00:07:46.03 I just got like one sentence out. Now you know 00:07:46.13\00:07:48.53 as fast as I talk if I got one sentence out 00:07:48.64\00:07:50.31 that wasn't very much time. 00:07:50.41\00:07:51.53 And so I started speaking again to show her the books 00:07:51.73\00:07:54.19 and the phone rings again. 00:07:54.39\00:07:55.43 Now this happened something like 4, maybe 5 times 00:07:55.63\00:07:58.04 within a 5-minute span. 00:07:58.24\00:07:59.62 And I said: "Look, ma'am, I don't mean to be nosy 00:07:59.82\00:08:02.22 but we're in the middle of nowhere. Does the same person 00:08:02.42\00:08:05.61 keep calling you? " She said: "No, no, 00:08:05.71\00:08:07.30 it's different people. " 00:08:07.40\00:08:08.40 I said: "Wow, you must be really popular 'cause, you know, 00:08:08.50\00:08:10.82 there's not a whole lot of people around here anyway. " 00:08:10.95\00:08:12.47 She said: "Well, I'm a prophet. " 00:08:12.50\00:08:14.06 I said: "Oh, really? 00:08:14.26\00:08:15.42 Well what's that have to do with your phone ringing, 00:08:15.62\00:08:17.07 you know? " And she said: "Well, my church members 00:08:17.17\00:08:19.00 and stuff they call and they ask me you know like 00:08:19.10\00:08:21.40 if it's OK for them to go... if it's safe for them to go 00:08:21.50\00:08:23.31 to the store today and this kind of thing. " 00:08:23.41\00:08:24.63 I said: "Really? 00:08:24.84\00:08:26.35 They call you to find out if it's safe to go places? " 00:08:26.55\00:08:28.55 She said: "Yeah, God reveals that to me and I tell them. " 00:08:28.75\00:08:30.90 And I said: "Oh, so you're like a spiritualist, like, not a 00:08:31.10\00:08:34.16 prophet but a fortune teller. " She said: "No, no. 00:08:34.26\00:08:36.39 I go to such and such church and I'm a prophet there 00:08:36.49\00:08:38.31 in the church. " "Oh! " So I'm getting really 00:08:38.51\00:08:41.03 a little nervous, especially with the boys pulling on me 00:08:41.13\00:08:43.28 and acting wild too. Just an uncomfortable situation. 00:08:43.38\00:08:45.82 So I show her the books, and she had no money or anything 00:08:45.93\00:08:48.19 to give me any money for the books. I gave her 00:08:48.29\00:08:51.51 a free book and I said: "Well, you know, I'd like to 00:08:51.71\00:08:52.96 have prayer with you before I go. " 00:08:53.06\00:08:54.26 And so I bowed my head to pray 00:08:54.46\00:08:56.48 and all of a sudden she said to the boys: 00:08:56.68\00:08:59.14 "Hey, we're going to pray. " The noise level went up about 00:08:59.34\00:09:01.66 two octaves... you know, it just went up that much louder 00:09:01.76\00:09:04.32 and they just got that much more rowdy. 00:09:04.52\00:09:05.70 They're doing this thing. I remember when I played 00:09:05.91\00:09:07.60 pee-wee football we had this thing... one of the exercises 00:09:07.71\00:09:09.69 called the monkey roll. You know, we had three guys 00:09:09.79\00:09:11.65 line up and one would jump over him and hit the ground 00:09:11.75\00:09:13.32 and start rolling and another guy would jump over him 00:09:13.42\00:09:14.61 you know and start rolling. They just kept doing this... 00:09:14.83\00:09:15.94 You know what I'm talking about? Just over one another? 00:09:17.00\00:09:19.42 That's like what they were doing in the middle of the floor while 00:09:19.72\00:09:21.36 I was praying. So my prayer in my mind... 00:09:21.46\00:09:23.18 so I knew no one could hear me... I was kind of praying 00:09:23.38\00:09:25.24 that the Lord would just get me out of there. 00:09:25.34\00:09:26.44 And He did. And so that was my experience 00:09:26.74\00:09:29.97 with a prophet. Not much, I know. 00:09:30.17\00:09:31.51 But my idea of a prophet growing up was something like that. 00:09:31.71\00:09:36.05 Like someone would call the fortune teller kind of thing. 00:09:36.25\00:09:39.28 And the reason I went through that whole long story 00:09:39.48\00:09:42.02 and everything was to give you an idea. 00:09:42.12\00:09:43.41 Maybe from your perspective... maybe you're growing up 00:09:43.51\00:09:45.21 in the church or something like that. 00:09:45.31\00:09:46.37 When someone says prophet, many people out in the world - 00:09:46.57\00:09:48.85 the secular world like where I came from - 00:09:48.95\00:09:50.70 that's what they think of. 00:09:50.90\00:09:52.03 So when you start talking about in a study, a Bible study, 00:09:52.24\00:09:54.09 the Spirit of Prophecy, you have to be very explanatory. 00:09:54.19\00:09:56.74 You have to explain very clearly 00:09:56.94\00:09:58.04 that you're not talking about a fortune teller. 00:09:58.14\00:09:59.92 You understand there is a difference, right? 00:10:00.22\00:10:02.02 And so this study here what it's going to do... 00:10:02.22\00:10:04.22 and I love the way this study is laid out... 00:10:04.32\00:10:05.94 is it actually shows how the Bible, 00:10:06.14\00:10:08.69 how God would raise up a prophet and you would have 00:10:08.79\00:10:11.12 a time line. Then He would raise up another prophet. 00:10:11.22\00:10:12.81 And He did that all through the Bible. There's a consistency 00:10:13.01\00:10:14.95 among certain prophets. Now not all prophets were 00:10:15.06\00:10:17.59 raised up the way we're looking at. 00:10:17.69\00:10:18.71 But there was a consistency among like what we would call 00:10:18.81\00:10:21.74 major prophets and that kind of thing. 00:10:21.84\00:10:23.38 So let us begin here now in Genesis chapter 5. 00:10:23.58\00:10:26.28 It may sound a little confusing in the beginning. 00:10:26.48\00:10:28.38 A little confusing. And the reason so? 00:10:28.68\00:10:30.88 Because you're going to say: "Why in the world 00:10:30.98\00:10:32.14 is he worrying about how old Methuselah was 00:10:32.24\00:10:33.89 and how old Lamech was and how old these other guys 00:10:34.09\00:10:36.50 were in the Bible. But it makes sense. 00:10:36.60\00:10:38.54 So, if you'll just follow along. 00:10:38.74\00:10:40.31 I hope you at home will follow along too in the same way 00:10:40.51\00:10:43.47 and not get bored and turn the channel or just stop. 00:10:43.67\00:10:46.70 All right. Let's pick it up in Genesis chapter 5 and verse 21. 00:10:46.90\00:10:50.52 You see on the screen there: Genesis 5:21-29. 00:10:50.72\00:10:53.57 And we're going to find out something about a time line 00:10:53.77\00:10:56.43 prophecy that Enoch gave us. 00:10:56.53\00:10:58.40 Verse 21. I'm going to start reading here 00:10:58.80\00:11:01.33 and then I'll let somebody else pick up as we go along. OK? 00:11:01.43\00:11:03.81 "Enoch lived 65 years and begat Methuselah. 00:11:03.95\00:11:06.61 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah 00:11:06.81\00:11:09.84 300 years and begat sons and daughters. " 00:11:10.04\00:11:12.30 Now before I got any farther I want you to think 00:11:12.40\00:11:13.74 about something. Who was the oldest guy that ever lived? 00:11:13.84\00:11:16.92 Enoch. Enoch... because Enoch never died. 00:11:18.22\00:11:21.32 The oldest guy that ever died was Enoch's son Methuselah. 00:11:21.52\00:11:25.20 So the guy that was the oldest guy that ever died 00:11:25.41\00:11:28.14 was the son of the oldest guy that ever lived. 00:11:28.24\00:11:29.77 So Methuselah was the oldest guy that ever died 00:11:30.07\00:11:33.20 and his dad was Enoch... and Enoch was the oldest guy 00:11:33.40\00:11:35.06 that ever lived. He's still alive; he was just taken off 00:11:35.16\00:11:36.89 to heaven. We'll know that as we read through here. 00:11:36.99\00:11:38.97 So it's interesting how it starts off. 00:11:39.17\00:11:40.46 Here we have Enoch having a son by the name of Methuselah. 00:11:40.57\00:11:43.42 And it says Methuselah... 300 years... verse 22 still... 00:11:43.62\00:11:48.80 "and begat sons and daughters. 00:11:49.00\00:11:50.53 And all the days of Enoch were 365 years. " 00:11:50.73\00:11:54.04 So Enoch lived 365 years and then: 00:11:54.24\00:11:56.75 "Enoch walked with God and he was not for God took him. " 00:11:56.95\00:11:59.28 So Enoch was taken away; God just took him into heaven. 00:11:59.48\00:12:01.71 "And Methuselah lived 187 years and begat Lamech. 00:12:01.91\00:12:06.05 And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech 782 years 00:12:06.25\00:12:09.29 and begat sons and daughters. 00:12:09.49\00:12:11.58 And all the days of Methuselah were 969 years 00:12:11.88\00:12:15.88 and he died. " 00:12:16.08\00:12:17.39 How old was Methuselah when he died? 00:12:17.69\00:12:19.84 969 years old. 00:12:20.14\00:12:22.18 This is going to be important here in just a few minutes. 00:12:22.38\00:12:24.14 "And Lamech lived 182 years and begat a son 00:12:24.34\00:12:27.48 and called his name Noah. " 00:12:27.51\00:12:29.02 An interesting line of families there, isn't that. 00:12:29.22\00:12:31.34 You have Enoch who was that man that walked with God 00:12:31.44\00:12:34.54 and God took him to heaven. Methuselah... the oldest guy 00:12:34.64\00:12:35.99 that ever lived. You have kind of a no-name guy, 00:12:36.09\00:12:38.86 a fellow that you never really heard much of: Lamech. 00:12:38.97\00:12:41.01 And then you have Noah. So the family tree there 00:12:41.11\00:12:43.34 is pretty interesting. 00:12:43.44\00:12:44.44 Now what we're going to do here: I'm going to show you something 00:12:44.64\00:12:46.30 from the Bible. The first guy here: 00:12:46.40\00:12:48.89 Methuselah. His daddy was who? 00:12:48.99\00:12:50.86 Who was Methuselah's daddy? 00:12:51.16\00:12:52.55 Enoch. 00:12:52.65\00:12:53.66 Did you know Enoch was 00:12:53.76\00:12:54.96 a prophet? 00:12:55.06\00:12:56.06 How do we know Enoch was a 00:12:56.37\00:12:57.37 prophet? Somebody open their Bible and go to the book of Jude 00:12:57.47\00:12:59.73 chapter 1 and verse 14. 00:12:59.93\00:13:01.67 Jude chapter 1 and verse 14. 00:13:01.87\00:13:03.42 We're going to find out that Enoch was a prophet. 00:13:03.52\00:13:05.15 We're going to find that out from the Bible. 00:13:05.35\00:13:07.39 Jude is... go all the way to the book of Revelation 00:13:07.59\00:13:10.00 and back up one book. 00:13:10.21\00:13:11.73 And it's one chapter long, so when it says Jude chapter 1 00:13:11.93\00:13:14.59 it's not really chapter 1 because it's only one chapter. 00:13:14.79\00:13:16.61 You just say "Jude 14. " 00:13:16.82\00:13:18.00 So it's Jude verse 14. 00:13:18.20\00:13:19.59 So go to the book of Revelation and back up one book 00:13:19.79\00:13:22.26 to get to the book of Jude. 00:13:22.36\00:13:23.36 Everybody there? 00:13:23.66\00:13:24.98 Mike, you want to read that for us? 00:13:25.18\00:13:26.67 Jude chapter 1 and verse 14. 00:13:26.87\00:13:28.85 "And Enoch also the seventh from Adam 00:13:33.54\00:13:37.18 prophesied of these things saying: 'Behold, 00:13:37.38\00:13:39.67 the Lord cometh with 10,000 of His saints. " 00:13:39.77\00:13:42.20 OK. This text is not one you have to use in your Bible study. 00:13:42.40\00:13:45.40 If you make the mention that Enoch was a prophet 00:13:45.60\00:13:50.38 and they say: "Oh, how do you know that? It doesn't say 00:13:50.48\00:13:51.60 Enoch was a prophet, " you can take them to Jude 00:13:51.74\00:13:53.59 verse 14 and it says that he "prophesied of these things 00:13:53.69\00:13:56.50 saying: 'The Lord comes with 10,000 of His saints. ' " 00:13:56.70\00:13:58.67 So if Enoch prophesied that would make him a? 00:13:58.87\00:14:02.29 Prophet. A prophet. Perfect... yeah. 00:14:02.39\00:14:03.73 No problem, right? So we can say Enoch was a prophet. 00:14:03.83\00:14:06.05 And he named his first son... now this is fascinating to me. 00:14:06.15\00:14:08.58 He named his first son Methuselah 00:14:08.68\00:14:10.96 and his name means something. 00:14:11.16\00:14:12.55 You know, many people in the Bible their name 00:14:12.65\00:14:13.91 means something, right? 00:14:14.01\00:14:15.18 You can just go through and like every name 00:14:15.38\00:14:18.23 basically means something. All the sons of the children 00:14:18.33\00:14:20.84 of Israel... As he went through naming his sons 00:14:20.94\00:14:23.18 you know, this guy is named this because I... 00:14:23.28\00:14:25.36 he brought me through my sufferings and different things 00:14:25.46\00:14:27.25 like that. It was just... Noah's name meant... 00:14:27.35\00:14:29.83 and it says it here actually in the Bible... 00:14:30.03\00:14:31.39 comfort I guess. Because it says his name was Noah. 00:14:31.59\00:14:34.35 And let me see, I have it marked in my Bible. 00:14:34.55\00:14:36.59 His name means comfort or rest. 00:14:36.79\00:14:38.45 So people's names mean something. 00:14:38.65\00:14:40.71 Methuselah: his name meant something in the Bible too. 00:14:40.91\00:14:43.26 It's interesting what Methuselah's name meant. 00:14:43.46\00:14:45.13 And we're going to look at that right now. We're going to go 00:14:45.33\00:14:47.05 to the slide here. Methuselah is a kind of a two-part name. 00:14:47.15\00:14:49.99 It means: 00:14:50.09\00:14:51.37 So his name means: he dies, it comes. 00:14:53.32\00:14:55.59 So he would walk around and people would look at Methuselah 00:14:55.89\00:14:58.29 and they would recognize well something was going to happen 00:14:58.40\00:15:00.21 when he dies. Right? 00:15:00.31\00:15:02.17 When Methuselah dies, something was going to happen. 00:15:02.31\00:15:03.91 And what was that something that was going to take place? 00:15:04.14\00:15:06.82 The flood. We know it was going to be the flood. 00:15:08.10\00:15:09.49 It was... judgment that comes actually is another way 00:15:09.60\00:15:11.80 of saying that. When he dies judgment comes or "it comes. " 00:15:11.90\00:15:14.91 And so Methuselah... 00:15:15.11\00:15:16.51 When Enoch named his son Methuselah he was giving 00:15:17.73\00:15:20.29 a time prophecy. 00:15:20.39\00:15:21.92 That's the point we make with this as we give the study. 00:15:22.12\00:15:24.14 When Enoch named his son Methuselah 00:15:24.34\00:15:26.92 he was actually giving a time prophecy. 00:15:27.12\00:15:28.70 And we're going to look at that as we go along right now. 00:15:28.90\00:15:30.87 Now we're going to have to get some... do some math. 00:15:31.07\00:15:33.04 And I'm not very good at math so I put it on the screen 00:15:33.14\00:15:35.00 to make it a lot easier for me. 00:15:35.10\00:15:36.39 Um, if you notice here on the screen it says: 00:15:36.69\00:15:40.07 Methuselah lived 187 years. 00:15:40.27\00:15:41.85 That's what it says in the Bible: Methuselah lived 00:15:41.95\00:15:43.43 187 years and begat a son. And his son's name was Lamech. 00:15:43.53\00:15:47.97 And Lamech lived 182 years... 00:15:48.17\00:15:50.02 We just read it there in Genesis chapter 5. 00:15:50.12\00:15:52.30 Lamech lived 182 years and he begat a son 00:15:52.50\00:15:55.19 and his name was? Noah. 00:15:55.39\00:15:58.11 Right? His name was Noah. 00:15:58.31\00:15:59.65 So if you take 187 years, which is how old Methuselah was 00:15:59.85\00:16:02.36 when he had Lamech. You add 182 years 00:16:02.47\00:16:04.63 you get the age of Methuselah when who was born? 00:16:04.83\00:16:07.20 Noah. Is that pretty clear? Pretty simple? 00:16:07.41\00:16:10.38 Like if I'm 35 years old and I have a son 00:16:10.68\00:16:13.41 and my son is 35 years old and has a son, 00:16:13.61\00:16:16.04 how old am I going to be when my grandson is born? 00:16:16.25\00:16:17.83 Seventy. So it's pretty simple. 00:16:18.13\00:16:19.90 So if you look at Methuselah was 187 when he has Lamech. 00:16:20.10\00:16:22.68 Lamech was 182 when he has Noah. 00:16:22.88\00:16:24.52 You add those together: 369 years. 00:16:24.72\00:16:26.93 369 years. 00:16:27.13\00:16:28.51 Now we're going to go to our next text 00:16:28.71\00:16:30.81 in our Bible study here. 00:16:30.91\00:16:32.25 And I'm going to remind the person... I'm going to remind 00:16:32.45\00:16:34.34 the person, Jessica, when I'm having a study with them, 00:16:34.44\00:16:36.19 I'm going to remind them... I'm going to ask them - 00:16:36.39\00:16:38.11 like if you're in a study I'm going to ask you - 00:16:38.31\00:16:39.63 "How old was Methuselah when he died? " 00:16:39.84\00:16:42.06 Pick up the microphone and answer me. 00:16:42.26\00:16:44.06 Come on, you remember it. We looked at it already. 00:16:44.26\00:16:45.53 He's the oldest guy that ever died. 00:16:45.73\00:16:46.81 Is it 696? Oh, 969. You were close, yeah. 00:16:47.01\00:16:50.18 969 years. That's exactly right. 00:16:50.28\00:16:51.82 I don't mean to put you on the spot like that. 00:16:51.93\00:16:53.31 But 969 years old. 00:16:53.34\00:16:55.50 And the person you're studying with probably won't get it right 00:16:55.70\00:16:58.29 either... so that makes it more realistic. 00:16:58.39\00:16:59.61 You know, but often times you want... you want to remind them 00:16:59.81\00:17:02.34 that he was 969 years old when he died. 00:17:02.44\00:17:04.95 And how old was he whenever Noah was born? 00:17:05.15\00:17:07.81 369, right. 00:17:09.73\00:17:11.07 Now notice something here... what did his name mean? 00:17:11.27\00:17:14.37 When he dies... it comes. That's what his name meant. 00:17:15.64\00:17:18.73 OK now, go to our next text. It will be on the screen 00:17:18.93\00:17:21.44 as well. Our next text will be on the screen: 00:17:21.54\00:17:22.95 Genesis chapter 7 and verse 6. 00:17:23.05\00:17:25.27 Genesis 7:6... and you'll notice here 00:17:25.48\00:17:27.95 you have 2SP which means 2 Spirit of Prophecy. 00:17:28.15\00:17:32.05 That's where you're at now. 00:17:32.25\00:17:33.25 And you put a line out from it. On the top line 00:17:33.36\00:17:35.11 you're going to put Genesis 5:21-29 because that's 00:17:35.21\00:17:38.76 where you just came from. 00:17:38.86\00:17:40.06 And then on the bottom line you'll put Genesis 15:13-14 00:17:40.26\00:17:43.99 because that's the next text we're going to. 00:17:44.09\00:17:46.12 And so we're at Genesis 7:6 00:17:46.42\00:17:49.32 and what we're going to find out here is how old Noah was 00:17:49.42\00:17:51.66 when the flood came. And Bill, you want to read that for us? 00:17:51.86\00:17:55.53 "Noah was 600 years old when the flood waters 00:17:55.83\00:17:59.60 were on the earth. " So how old was Noah when the flood came? 00:17:59.71\00:18:01.71 600. Now we're going back to the screen here. 00:18:02.11\00:18:04.51 Interesting. Enoch was 182; he begat Methuselah. 00:18:04.81\00:18:09.17 And then he's 187... he begat or has a son named Noah. 00:18:09.38\00:18:13.15 Methuselah was 369 years old when Noah was born. 00:18:13.35\00:18:18.31 And once again, the text you just read, Bill. 00:18:18.51\00:18:20.88 From the text you just read, how old was Noah 00:18:20.98\00:18:22.94 when the flood came? 600. Noah was 600 years old. 00:18:23.04\00:18:25.98 Is everybody keeping up with this OK? 00:18:26.18\00:18:27.66 Look on the screen here. 00:18:27.86\00:18:29.03 Noah was 600 years old at the flood. 00:18:29.23\00:18:30.90 And so you add 600 to 369... how old do you come up with? 00:18:31.10\00:18:34.19 969. So how old was Methuselah when the flood came? 00:18:34.39\00:18:37.88 969. So what happens? Methuselah dies 00:18:38.18\00:18:41.07 and the flood comes. You want to know what his basic message was? 00:18:41.27\00:18:45.32 "Papaw's going to die! Hey everybody, 00:18:45.62\00:18:47.92 get ready... Papaw's going to die! " 00:18:48.12\00:18:49.21 "Papaw's dying soon. Hey everybody, get on the ark 00:18:49.41\00:18:51.71 because Papaw's going to die soon. " Right? 00:18:51.91\00:18:53.21 His Papaw. Do they say Papaw in the north? 00:18:53.42\00:18:56.22 South and east and west... they say that all over the place? 00:18:56.42\00:18:58.19 Papaw means like grandfather, right? 00:18:58.39\00:19:00.14 "Grandpa or Papaw's going to die; he's going to die soon. " 00:19:00.34\00:19:03.06 And when grandpa dies - when Noah's Papaw dies - 00:19:03.26\00:19:05.34 guess what happens: the flood came. 00:19:05.44\00:19:07.66 And so that was Noah's basic message. 00:19:07.86\00:19:09.62 And so one day, I can just picture it right now, 00:19:09.72\00:19:11.86 Methuselah dies. And everybody's like: "Oh, did you hear 00:19:12.06\00:19:13.80 the story? Did you hear the news? The old man died. " 00:19:13.90\00:19:15.85 "Did he really? He died? Nothing's happening. " 00:19:16.09\00:19:18.95 "Well, you know, that crazy old man - his grandson down there, 00:19:19.15\00:19:21.73 Noah, that's been building that big boat on dry land - 00:19:21.76\00:19:23.92 something strange happened just the other day. 00:19:24.12\00:19:26.28 The animals all went onto the ark. 00:19:26.29\00:19:28.31 A bunch of animals went on the ark. 00:19:28.54\00:19:30.43 They all just on their own went on there. 00:19:30.54\00:19:31.72 Filled the thing up! 00:19:31.82\00:19:33.74 And then now today... the old man dies. 00:19:33.94\00:19:37.07 Noah? 00:19:37.37\00:19:38.80 He got on there with the animals 00:19:38.94\00:19:40.00 and the door shut. " Right? 00:19:40.10\00:19:42.13 "The door closed. Strange things are happening. 00:19:42.33\00:19:44.40 The old man is dead. " 00:19:44.60\00:19:46.42 And you know what happened when the old man died, right? 00:19:46.62\00:19:48.82 The flood waters came... because look at this. 00:19:49.03\00:19:51.33 Enoch gives a time prophecy. 00:19:51.53\00:19:53.66 He says - through his son Methuselah he says - 00:19:53.76\00:19:55.83 "It will be a certain amount of time. When this guy dies 00:19:56.03\00:19:59.01 then judgment will come... the flood will come. " 00:19:59.21\00:20:01.06 And then before... before God allowed the flood to come... 00:20:01.26\00:20:05.14 Oh, man, there's just something too. I always like to bring 00:20:05.34\00:20:07.74 this out when I give this study. Don't miss this. 00:20:07.84\00:20:10.22 Do you know what Enoch... I mean Methuselah shows about God? 00:20:10.42\00:20:13.90 It shows God's love and mercy. 00:20:14.10\00:20:16.61 The oldest one that ever lived... 00:20:16.81\00:20:18.40 Why was he the oldest man that ever lived? 00:20:18.60\00:20:20.18 No, no, no... Methuselah. The reason he was the oldest man 00:20:21.43\00:20:23.51 that ever lived was because God knew that whenever he died 00:20:23.62\00:20:27.18 He was going to bring judgment, 00:20:27.38\00:20:28.67 and He put it off as long as He could. 00:20:28.88\00:20:30.39 He was showing His... that's one of the things that shows 00:20:30.59\00:20:31.99 His grace and His mercy like... almost like nothing else. 00:20:32.09\00:20:34.94 You know, you think about it. He could have said: "OK, 00:20:35.14\00:20:36.79 I've had enough of these people" and cut Methuselah off 00:20:36.89\00:20:38.60 at like... at 500 years old, you know? 00:20:38.71\00:20:40.93 But He gave them a complete... every opportunity. 00:20:41.13\00:20:43.37 He let him live longer than anybody else 00:20:43.57\00:20:45.33 because when he died God was going to bring judgment. 00:20:45.43\00:20:47.27 So God had him live 969 years and then he died. 00:20:47.47\00:20:50.44 And so his name meant that when he dies 00:20:50.74\00:20:52.96 judgment will come or the flood would come. 00:20:53.06\00:20:54.40 And so Enoch gives a time line prophecy. 00:20:54.60\00:20:56.33 At the end of the time line prophecy, notice this: 00:20:56.53\00:20:58.32 this is very important to pick up. 00:20:58.42\00:20:59.44 At the end of the time line prophecy, God did not leave 00:20:59.65\00:21:02.66 His people or the world to wonder 00:21:02.86\00:21:05.40 about what we going to happen. 00:21:05.50\00:21:06.53 For 120 years before that prophecy came to an end 00:21:06.73\00:21:09.41 God had Noah faithfully warning the people. 00:21:09.61\00:21:12.00 So He raised up a prophet at the end of that time line prophecy 00:21:12.20\00:21:14.98 to warn the people and let them know: "Hey, the flood's 00:21:15.18\00:21:17.41 getting ready to come. Papaw's going to die. 00:21:17.51\00:21:19.54 Get ready; be ready. It's for going to happen. 00:21:19.74\00:21:21.47 It's for sure going to happen. I know you don't believe it. 00:21:21.57\00:21:23.13 It's never rained before but it's going to happen. 00:21:23.33\00:21:24.83 The prophecy's going to come to an end. " 00:21:25.03\00:21:26.37 God did not leave His people in darkness. 00:21:26.47\00:21:28.80 So He gives a time line prophecy through a prophet. 00:21:29.10\00:21:31.93 At the end of the time line prophecy He raises up 00:21:32.14\00:21:33.85 another prophet to say "Be ready. " 00:21:33.96\00:21:35.88 He doesn't leave in darkness. God could have said 00:21:36.08\00:21:37.84 "I'm not going to raise up Noah; they can just figure it out 00:21:38.04\00:21:39.90 on their own, " couldn't He? 00:21:40.00\00:21:41.36 "Just let them figure it out on their own. " 00:21:41.56\00:21:42.58 Then what would have happened? They all would have been 00:21:42.68\00:21:44.27 destroyed because they were wicked, right? 00:21:44.37\00:21:45.53 But God did not let it go that way. 00:21:45.73\00:21:47.08 He raised up another prophet to give them an opportunity. 00:21:47.18\00:21:49.84 And now we're going to go to our next part of the study. 00:21:50.04\00:21:52.21 We're going to go to the third text in the Spirit of Prophecy. 00:21:52.42\00:21:56.22 Genesis chapter 15 is what we're turning to. 00:21:56.42\00:21:58.82 Genesis chapter 15. And Tom, I think, is going to read that 00:21:58.92\00:22:02.68 for us. Genesis chapter 15. While you're turning there 00:22:02.78\00:22:05.14 verses 13 and 14. And now also, just one more time 00:22:05.34\00:22:09.30 for people marking their Bibles, we want to make sure 00:22:09.40\00:22:10.87 they understand how to do this. 00:22:10.97\00:22:12.03 We're not... we're not doing this as an evangelistic meeting 00:22:12.24\00:22:14.39 you understand, right? 00:22:14.49\00:22:15.50 We want everybody to understand how to mark their Bibles 00:22:15.60\00:22:17.42 at home. We want them to mark their Bibles up 00:22:17.53\00:22:18.81 so you can give these studies yourself. 00:22:18.91\00:22:20.48 The whole purpose of these classes, 00:22:20.68\00:22:22.07 the whole purpose of all this 00:22:22.18\00:22:23.21 is so that you at home can also give this Bible study. 00:22:23.31\00:22:25.79 And so if you'll notice here: you write 3SP. 00:22:25.99\00:22:28.84 You'll circle it and then you put a line. 00:22:28.94\00:22:30.41 You don't have to put the line straight across. 00:22:30.51\00:22:31.81 Remember how we talked about that the other day here? 00:22:31.91\00:22:33.82 If you put the line straight out, you might not have room 00:22:34.02\00:22:35.77 to write on the top and the bottom, so you might 00:22:35.87\00:22:37.42 have to put it in there at an angle. 00:22:37.52\00:22:39.03 And on the top you put the text you just came from 00:22:39.23\00:22:40.88 which was Genesis 7:6. 00:22:40.98\00:22:42.36 And the next verse we're going to be going to will be 00:22:42.56\00:22:44.39 Exodus chapter 3 verses 7-10. 00:22:44.49\00:22:46.51 Now Tom is going to read for us Genesis 15:13-14. 00:22:46.71\00:22:49.97 Everybody there besides me? 00:22:50.27\00:22:51.82 OK. Genesis chapter 15. Tom, go ahead. 00:22:52.02\00:22:54.50 OK. "Then He said to Abram: 'know certainly that your 00:22:54.69\00:23:00.09 descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs 00:23:00.19\00:23:04.11 and will serve them and they will afflict them 00:23:04.21\00:23:06.98 400 years. And also, the nation whom they serve 00:23:07.08\00:23:11.01 I will judge. Afterward, they shall come out 00:23:11.21\00:23:14.00 with great possessions. ' " 00:23:14.10\00:23:15.98 So who was given a time line prophecy here? 00:23:16.18\00:23:18.01 Who was it given a time line prophecy, Tom? 00:23:18.17\00:23:19.51 This is to Abram. This is Abram, right? 00:23:19.72\00:23:21.74 And now that's before his name became Abraham. 00:23:21.94\00:23:23.87 And what is the time line prophecy? For how long is it? 00:23:24.07\00:23:26.07 400 years. And then it says at the 400 years 00:23:26.17\00:23:28.91 or after the 400 years? 00:23:29.01\00:23:30.23 It says they shall come out after 400 years. 00:23:30.27\00:23:33.63 After 400 years. So some time thereafter... right after 00:23:33.73\00:23:36.19 400 years or so it looks like in the Bible 00:23:36.29\00:23:37.80 that they will come out of Egypt. 00:23:38.00\00:23:39.44 Now the reason I'm bringing this up right here... 00:23:39.64\00:23:41.59 um, this is kind of a little bit of a difficult part of the study 00:23:41.79\00:23:45.11 and it depends on who I'm 00:23:45.21\00:23:46.65 studying with or if I'm preaching or whatever 00:23:46.76\00:23:48.38 I bring up a pretty interesting 00:23:48.58\00:23:49.87 point right here because the 00:23:49.97\00:23:51.31 Bible says that the children of 00:23:51.41\00:23:52.47 Israel were there for how long? 00:23:52.57\00:23:53.64 How long did they go in bondage? 00:23:55.09\00:23:56.58 Remember the prophecy here that the children of Israel 00:23:56.68\00:23:59.29 or his descendants would be in bondage for how long? 00:23:59.49\00:24:01.10 400 years. Were they there for 400 years? 00:24:01.30\00:24:04.16 No. They were actually there for 430 years. 00:24:04.68\00:24:08.48 And so now I'm going to bring this up right here just 00:24:08.69\00:24:11.62 to answer an objection that may come up. 00:24:11.72\00:24:13.71 If it doesn't come up, don't deal with it. 00:24:13.91\00:24:15.88 When you can't answer the objection... 00:24:16.08\00:24:17.60 The sort way of answering this objection 00:24:17.80\00:24:19.23 is to simply say: "Hey, were they... it says that" 00:24:19.43\00:24:23.49 Tom read there that "it would be after 400 years 00:24:23.59\00:24:25.29 they would come out. " 430 years after 400? 00:24:25.39\00:24:28.18 Sure it is. It's after 400 years. 00:24:28.38\00:24:30.14 But I like to bring up another point. And let's go to Exodus. 00:24:30.35\00:24:33.22 Now this is separate from what you would normally give 00:24:34.80\00:24:37.28 in the study. But this is just extra in case... 00:24:37.38\00:24:38.99 in case the objections come up and that kind of thing. 00:24:39.10\00:24:40.94 Let's go to Exodus chapter 12 for a minute. 00:24:41.14\00:24:43.18 This is not on your study guide, you know. It's not on the slide 00:24:46.09\00:24:48.55 or on your study guide, so this is one of those places 00:24:48.65\00:24:50.52 you'd have to take an extra note if you want to keep track 00:24:50.62\00:24:52.54 of this. I'm going to read verse 40. It says... 00:24:52.64\00:24:55.99 Exodus chapter 12 and verse 40: 00:24:56.19\00:24:57.95 "Now the sojourning of the children of Israel 00:24:58.15\00:25:00.08 who dwelt in Egypt was 430 years. " 00:25:00.28\00:25:03.51 Isn't that fascinating? It says: "And it came to pass 00:25:03.61\00:25:05.48 at the end of the 430 years - even the self-same day - 00:25:05.58\00:25:08.44 it came to pass that all the host of the Lord went out from 00:25:08.54\00:25:10.30 the land of Egypt. " Now I've had people tell me... 00:25:10.40\00:25:12.25 "Well, well wait a minute. It was 430 years 00:25:12.35\00:25:14.62 from the time they got there till they were delivered 00:25:14.72\00:25:16.69 but it was 400 years in bondage. " 00:25:16.89\00:25:19.91 Not true. It's not true because 00:25:20.11\00:25:22.48 I went and did a little research and I can give you the 00:25:22.69\00:25:24.84 information on this either at a different time or 00:25:24.95\00:25:26.77 a different study because it takes a little while. 00:25:26.87\00:25:28.19 But basically, when Joseph became prime minister of Egypt 00:25:28.39\00:25:31.34 he was 30 years old. The Bible tells us so. 00:25:31.54\00:25:33.87 He was 30 years old. And so if you add 14 to that 00:25:34.07\00:25:37.30 because you remember they had 7 years of good and 7 years 00:25:37.51\00:25:40.53 of famine... so let's just take a full 14 years 00:25:40.63\00:25:42.82 and that makes him how old? 44. 00:25:43.02\00:25:45.47 At the end of that time... somewhere in that last 7 years 00:25:45.67\00:25:48.80 between him being 30 and 44- 00:25:49.00\00:25:51.51 actually between 37 and 44- 00:25:51.71\00:25:53.39 somewhere in that time frame the children of Israel 00:25:53.49\00:25:55.18 came down to Egypt. 00:25:55.28\00:25:56.54 Remember his family came down when the famine got so bad 00:25:56.64\00:25:58.32 toward the end of the 7 years? Remember that taking place? 00:25:58.42\00:26:00.58 And then he dies... Joseph dies at like 100 and I don't remember 00:26:00.78\00:26:04.03 the exact time. It was like 130 years old when he died... 00:26:04.13\00:26:06.25 or something like that. 00:26:06.45\00:26:07.54 Anyway, it turned out to be like 60 years that the children 00:26:07.74\00:26:10.31 of Israel would have been down there 00:26:10.41\00:26:12.01 before Joseph died. OK? 00:26:12.21\00:26:14.76 So there were 60 years that they were actually in Egypt 00:26:14.79\00:26:16.43 before Joseph died. And then it says after Joseph died 00:26:16.63\00:26:18.98 another king arises that does not know Joseph 00:26:19.18\00:26:21.95 or appreciate what he's done, and he puts them in bondage. 00:26:22.15\00:26:24.73 So there had to be a time frame even after Joseph died 00:26:24.93\00:26:27.37 before someone even forgot the good things Joseph had done 00:26:27.57\00:26:29.97 and took the children of Israel into bondage. 00:26:30.17\00:26:31.49 So to say it was 430 years 00:26:31.70\00:26:33.65 because 30 years was the time they were just in Egypt 00:26:33.75\00:26:35.67 doesn't fit. It just doesn't fit that. 00:26:35.77\00:26:38.00 But I think there's an answer that's actually better 00:26:38.20\00:26:41.44 than to say... to try to answer all that that way, 00:26:41.64\00:26:44.36 you know. The bottom line - and Tom picked it up 00:26:44.46\00:26:47.27 when he read his study there - it says there in Genesis 00:26:47.37\00:26:49.80 that after 400 years they'll be delivered. 00:26:50.00\00:26:51.85 And 430 is after 400, right? It definitely fits that. 00:26:52.05\00:26:55.81 But there's another answer that's found in Acts chapter 7. 00:26:56.01\00:26:59.28 And I'm going to take a little time to show that. 00:26:59.48\00:27:01.23 You guys want to see that? 00:27:01.33\00:27:02.34 I mean, to me it kind of makes sense. 00:27:02.54\00:27:04.41 Because here's what I want to say: how long did Abraham 00:27:04.61\00:27:06.68 say they'd be in bondage? 400 years. 00:27:06.78\00:27:09.44 How long were they there? 430 years. OK, so 00:27:09.54\00:27:12.15 Abram's a false prophet. 00:27:12.25\00:27:15.00 Do you feel comfortable with that? 00:27:15.20\00:27:16.41 Abraham's a false prophet? He's not a Biblical prophet, 00:27:16.81\00:27:19.16 is he... because he's a false prophet. 00:27:19.26\00:27:20.26 If he gives a prophecy and it's in the Bible it says 400 years 00:27:20.36\00:27:23.09 and they actually were 430 years in bondage 00:27:23.29\00:27:25.18 that makes him a false prophet, doesn't it? 00:27:25.28\00:27:26.50 I know, stirs us up, doesn't it? 00:27:27.64\00:27:29.12 Pick your thing up there and talk. 00:27:29.54\00:27:31.39 But after 400 years... He raised up a prophet, right? 00:27:32.92\00:27:37.17 Yeah, that's... that's sort of true but now think about this. 00:27:37.49\00:27:40.13 Today if we're going to measure a prophet 00:27:41.15\00:27:44.35 we've got to use the same standards with the old prophets 00:27:44.55\00:27:47.77 as we do with the new prophets. 00:27:47.97\00:27:49.27 If you have a new prophet come along and give a prophecy 00:27:49.57\00:27:52.14 and they say "after 20 years this is going to happen, " 00:27:52.25\00:27:54.37 and it doesn't happen... are you going to reject them? 00:27:54.57\00:27:56.30 Sure. You're going to say they're not a prophet. 00:27:57.40\00:27:58.93 But we look at Abraham and he says 400 years 00:27:59.13\00:28:01.02 and it was 430, and you say... do you want to reject him? 00:28:01.13\00:28:04.52 Obviously there's something wrong with 00:28:05.69\00:28:06.84 our understanding of the prophecy, isn't there? 00:28:06.87\00:28:08.54 Because we know that Abraham's not a false prophet. 00:28:08.57\00:28:10.41 And we're going to look at a couple of things here 00:28:10.59\00:28:12.00 that I think will help clarify this. 00:28:12.11\00:28:14.14 But I want to ask you this: if the Internet was around 00:28:14.34\00:28:16.72 in the days of Abraham, after he passed on, you know, 00:28:16.82\00:28:19.83 and the children of Israel there in Egypt, right? 00:28:19.93\00:28:21.62 And they look at the prophecy and it says 400 years we'll be 00:28:21.82\00:28:23.77 in bondage and it gets to 410 years... 00:28:23.87\00:28:25.71 What do you suppose the Internet and the church folk would be 00:28:25.81\00:28:28.20 saying about Abraham and that time frame? The contemporaries. 00:28:28.30\00:28:30.99 "He's a false prophet. " Right? Wouldn't they be saying that? 00:28:32.10\00:28:34.61 Because it's 410 years into this whole thing 00:28:34.72\00:28:36.89 and we're not delivered yet. And the prophecy he gave was 00:28:37.09\00:28:39.10 400 years. Can you imagine what they'd have been thinking? 00:28:39.20\00:28:41.52 Fascinating, isn't it, to think about. 00:28:41.72\00:28:43.59 Go with me to the book of Acts now... Acts chapter 7. 00:28:43.69\00:28:45.39 Yeah. And all this stuff is extra. 00:28:46.55\00:28:48.40 If the objection comes up, you know, here's the answer 00:28:48.60\00:28:51.03 to the objection. It's a little more time consuming 00:28:51.06\00:28:53.46 I realize to do this, 00:28:53.56\00:28:55.03 but I think if we kind of work through this a little bit 00:28:55.23\00:28:58.73 we can... we can get the good answers... even for ourselves. 00:28:58.84\00:29:00.89 Don't you want to know what God's doing? I mean, 00:29:01.09\00:29:03.85 it almost... when I first saw this, it troubled me. 00:29:04.05\00:29:06.75 Does it trouble you a little bit to think that maybe Abraham 00:29:07.15\00:29:09.46 was a false prophet if he said 400 years and it's 430? 00:29:09.56\00:29:11.75 Don't feel comfortable saying that, do you? 00:29:11.95\00:29:13.89 And I think... I think we've got the answer here in Acts 00:29:14.09\00:29:16.58 chapter 7. Um, this is Stephen's... 00:29:16.68\00:29:21.40 this is Stephen's sermon and it's like the best sermon 00:29:21.60\00:29:26.19 he ever preached, right? 00:29:26.29\00:29:28.33 You know it's the best sermon he ever preached. 00:29:28.53\00:29:29.60 How do you know that? 00:29:29.80\00:29:30.87 Because they killed him at the end, that's exactly right. 00:29:31.07\00:29:32.61 When they kill you at the end of the sermon, it must have been 00:29:32.71\00:29:33.95 a good one, right? And so Stephen here is preaching 00:29:34.05\00:29:36.08 to the leaders of Israel. 00:29:36.18\00:29:38.34 And Jessica's going to do some reading here for us. 00:29:38.54\00:29:40.39 And I'm going to give you a verse to read 00:29:40.49\00:29:42.18 then we're going to stop you. And go to another verse... 00:29:42.38\00:29:43.57 that kind of thing, OK? 00:29:43.67\00:29:44.72 So first of all, read verse 6 for me. 00:29:44.82\00:29:46.87 Acts chapter 7 verse 6. 00:29:47.07\00:29:49.55 "But God also told him that his descendants 00:29:53.32\00:29:56.08 would live in a foreign country where they would be mistreated 00:29:56.28\00:30:00.33 as slaves for 400 years. " 00:30:00.53\00:30:02.42 So he's bringing up the whole... he's going through the history 00:30:02.62\00:30:04.85 of Israel and he's coming up to the point of Joseph here 00:30:04.95\00:30:07.40 and he says that God told Abraham that they would be 00:30:07.60\00:30:10.27 400 years in bondage. And he's leading on up through 00:30:10.47\00:30:12.67 and he goes through some more of the history. 00:30:12.77\00:30:14.04 Now pick it up in verse 16. 00:30:14.24\00:30:15.74 Actually verse 15 would be good. 00:30:15.94\00:30:17.71 15 and 16... start reading there. 00:30:18.01\00:30:23.39 "So Jacob went to Egypt. He died there as did all 00:30:23.60\00:30:27.97 his sons. All of them were taken to Shechem 00:30:28.08\00:30:34.04 and buried in the tomb Abraham had bought 00:30:34.24\00:30:38.51 from the sons of Hamor in Shechem. " 00:30:38.71\00:30:42.57 OK, verse 17: 00:30:42.77\00:30:43.86 "As the time drew near when God would fulfill His promise" 00:30:44.06\00:30:48.34 OK. There you go. "As the time drew near for 00:30:48.44\00:30:50.37 when God would fulfill His promise 00:30:50.47\00:30:53.01 that He promised to Abraham. " 00:30:53.21\00:30:56.31 OK. What promise would that be talking about? 00:30:56.51\00:30:57.98 The 400-year prophecy, right? 00:30:58.18\00:31:00.22 So as that time drew near, Stephen says, 00:31:00.42\00:31:02.73 as that time drew near God did something. 00:31:02.83\00:31:04.75 What did He do, Jessica? 00:31:04.95\00:31:05.97 "The number of our people in Egypt greatly increased" - 00:31:06.17\00:31:11.14 keep going - "but then a new king came to the throne 00:31:11.34\00:31:15.40 of Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph. 00:31:15.60\00:31:18.11 This king plotted against our people and forced parents 00:31:18.31\00:31:22.20 to abandon their newborn babies so they would die. " 00:31:22.41\00:31:25.49 One more verse. 00:31:25.69\00:31:26.94 "At that time, Moses was born. " OK, at what time? 00:31:27.14\00:31:30.54 At that 400 years? Right. At the end... the promise is 00:31:30.74\00:31:34.02 drawing nigh, it's getting close. He says the promise 00:31:34.12\00:31:35.72 is getting close, and in that time - when it's getting close 00:31:35.82\00:31:37.73 to that time of their deliverance - 00:31:37.83\00:31:39.19 you know, that's what the context is here: in that time - 00:31:39.39\00:31:41.46 Moses was born. 00:31:41.66\00:31:42.74 So Moses was coming along right at the right time. 00:31:42.84\00:31:44.86 Right? He's coming up at the time, right? 00:31:45.06\00:31:47.40 I'm going to go ahead and read some more of this myself 00:31:47.60\00:31:49.50 because I want to emphasize a few things, OK? 00:31:49.71\00:31:51.36 "In which time Moses was born and was exceedingly fair 00:31:51.56\00:31:54.82 and nourished up in his father's house for three months. " 00:31:55.02\00:31:57.36 And then it goes on talking about Moses a little bit. 00:31:57.56\00:31:59.68 I'll just go ahead and keep reading. Verse 21: 00:31:59.88\00:32:01.98 "And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up 00:32:02.08\00:32:04.05 and nourished him as her own son. 00:32:04.15\00:32:05.39 And when Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians 00:32:05.59\00:32:09.36 and was mighty in words and in deeds 00:32:09.56\00:32:12.61 and when he was a full 40 years old 00:32:12.81\00:32:14.66 it came into his heart to visit his brethren, 00:32:14.86\00:32:17.83 the children of Israel. " 00:32:17.93\00:32:19.00 Who do you suppose put it into his heart? 00:32:19.20\00:32:20.42 Why would it come into Moses' heart? 00:32:20.45\00:32:22.31 Because God is putting it there, right? 00:32:22.51\00:32:24.26 I mean, you think about it. You're living in the palace; 00:32:24.46\00:32:26.54 you're the king's son... you've got it made. 00:32:26.64\00:32:28.53 Why would you want to go visit those... you know, those slaves? 00:32:28.63\00:32:31.34 But God is putting it on his heart, right? 00:32:31.54\00:32:33.44 And so he goes out... verse 24: "He saw one of them 00:32:33.64\00:32:36.82 suffered wrong. He defended him, avenged him that was oppressed, 00:32:36.93\00:32:40.33 and smote the Egyptian 00:32:40.53\00:32:42.27 for he supposed that his brethren would understand 00:32:42.48\00:32:44.81 how that God by his hand" - Moses' hand - 00:32:44.91\00:32:47.99 "would deliver them. But they understood not. " 00:32:48.20\00:32:50.77 You know what happens here? 00:32:50.97\00:32:52.72 The children of Israel as God is putting it in Moses' heart 00:32:52.92\00:32:55.76 to go start delivering them - to start that process - 00:32:55.86\00:32:57.94 Moses goes out. He messes up. I've got to tell you, I think 00:32:58.14\00:33:00.01 he messed up there when he killed the Egyptian. 00:33:00.11\00:33:01.71 But God was going to use Moses to start delivering the 00:33:01.91\00:33:04.16 children of Israel on time. 00:33:04.26\00:33:06.08 But they did not understand. 00:33:06.28\00:33:08.51 And you know what the children of Israel did? 00:33:08.61\00:33:09.97 They rejected the prophet that God was raising up. 00:33:10.17\00:33:12.81 They rejected him! 00:33:13.01\00:33:14.86 Right? Did they reject Moses? 00:33:15.06\00:33:16.65 Remember, God was bringing Moses and he said here 00:33:16.85\00:33:18.50 God would put it in Moses' heart to come and deliver them 00:33:18.60\00:33:21.31 because the time was drawing near. 00:33:21.52\00:33:23.10 That's what Stephen is saying in this sermon. 00:33:23.20\00:33:26.01 He says the time was drawing near. It was getting close 00:33:26.11\00:33:28.28 to that time. God had put it in Moses' heart 00:33:28.38\00:33:30.72 to come and deliver your 00:33:30.82\00:33:31.98 ancestors but they rejected 00:33:32.09\00:33:33.90 Moses. They didn't understand. 00:33:34.01\00:33:35.79 And so it ended up costing them, 00:33:35.99\00:33:37.72 I believe, an extra 30 years in bondage 00:33:37.82\00:33:40.21 because they rejected the prophet. 00:33:40.41\00:33:42.72 Now this is very significant, especially as we get into 00:33:42.93\00:33:44.87 later on in the Spirit of Prophecy study 00:33:44.97\00:33:46.67 and look at the latter-day prophet. 00:33:46.77\00:33:47.88 There's some significance to this. 00:33:49.16\00:33:50.49 So are you understanding this? 00:33:50.59\00:33:52.06 We're not willing to object to... we're not willing to call 00:33:52.26\00:33:56.29 Abraham a false prophet. Are you? 00:33:56.39\00:33:57.99 I'm not willing to do that because he's Biblical. 00:33:58.19\00:33:59.91 Everything makes perfect sense. 00:34:00.01\00:34:01.58 And when you look at what happened here, if the children - 00:34:01.68\00:34:03.91 God's people, the church - rejects the prophet, 00:34:04.01\00:34:06.94 it costs them more time. 00:34:07.14\00:34:08.50 But still, still in the same way, as we go back to Genesis 00:34:09.92\00:34:12.87 chapter 15 now... Genesis chapter... Oh, actually 00:34:12.97\00:34:16.19 we're going to the next text. I'm sorry. 00:34:16.29\00:34:17.74 Genesis 15 was the prophecy, the timeline prophecy given... 00:34:17.84\00:34:20.10 that was given for the 400 years, 00:34:20.20\00:34:22.81 Now we're going to go to Exodus chapter 3 verses 7-10 00:34:23.01\00:34:25.73 and we're going to see that God did raise somebody up. 00:34:25.83\00:34:27.82 It being Moses - as we have already discovered 00:34:28.02\00:34:29.74 and that He raised him up to deliver the children of Israel. 00:34:29.95\00:34:32.04 Now, everything we've done from the time I had Tom read 00:34:32.24\00:34:35.91 this text there in Genesis chapter 15- 00:34:36.02\00:34:37.83 after he got through reading his text, everything I've done 00:34:38.03\00:34:40.55 from there till now, you don't normally have to share 00:34:40.65\00:34:43.54 in a Bible study. OK? What's the short answer? 00:34:43.64\00:34:47.04 If somebody says: "But wait, they were there for 430 years, " 00:34:47.14\00:34:49.27 what's the short answer to that question if you don't want to 00:34:49.37\00:34:51.36 go into full detail? It said after 400 years. 00:34:51.46\00:34:53.75 It says: "After 400 years. " 430 is after 400. 00:34:53.85\00:34:56.52 But now if you want to go into a little more detail 00:34:56.62\00:34:57.98 to make the point, you go to the book of Acts 00:34:58.08\00:34:59.60 and Acts chapter answers that question. 00:34:59.70\00:35:02.10 You know, it's very interesting that Stephen says 00:35:02.20\00:35:03.91 "In which time... " in this time you know, he's raised up. 00:35:04.01\00:35:08.01 So they rejected him. If you reject a prophet, 00:35:08.21\00:35:10.02 it costs you more time, see? God wanted to deliver them 00:35:10.12\00:35:12.01 at the end of a 400-year period. 00:35:12.11\00:35:13.48 Absolutely. But if you're not ready, 00:35:13.68\00:35:15.63 is He going to deliver you anyway? 00:35:15.73\00:35:17.17 No. If you notice the history of the children of Israel 00:35:17.38\00:35:20.23 as they're going into the Promised Land 00:35:20.43\00:35:22.02 why didn't they go directly into the Promised Land? 00:35:22.22\00:35:23.68 'Cause God had to take a certain amount of time 00:35:23.98\00:35:25.99 to prepare them to get ready to go to the Promised Land. 00:35:26.09\00:35:27.65 They finally got there and didn't go in because of 00:35:27.76\00:35:29.35 their rebellion. Ended up being another 40 years 00:35:29.45\00:35:31.40 before they went. Now did God want to wait 00:35:31.50\00:35:33.19 another 40 years to take them to the Promised Land? 00:35:33.29\00:35:34.83 No. But why did He have to wait? 00:35:35.13\00:35:37.18 Because of them. So the prophecy was conditional, wasn't it? 00:35:37.38\00:35:40.52 The prophecy was conditional. 00:35:40.72\00:35:41.80 He wanted to take them right in but their hearts were hard. 00:35:42.00\00:35:44.79 He wanted to deliver them, I believe, through Moses 00:35:45.09\00:35:47.86 pretty quickly... but their hearts were hard 00:35:47.97\00:35:50.16 and they weren't ready to accept the prophet. 00:35:50.46\00:35:52.62 So now let's go to Exodus chapter 3. 00:35:52.82\00:35:53.99 Did that make sense? OK. 00:35:54.19\00:35:56.33 Exodus chapter 3. If it doesn't make sense to you, 00:35:56.54\00:35:58.62 then it's not going to make sense to them at home. 00:35:58.72\00:35:59.98 So you can say: "No, it doesn't make sense. " 00:36:00.08\00:36:01.34 I won't pin you down on a... like, well what doesn't make 00:36:01.44\00:36:04.25 sense about it... too much. 00:36:04.35\00:36:05.87 So you give me just a general idea and I'll try to explain it. 00:36:06.07\00:36:07.61 Because you know if it's not making sense here 00:36:07.71\00:36:09.41 then it's not making sense there, right? 00:36:09.51\00:36:10.61 OK. Exodus chapter 3. 00:36:10.81\00:36:12.58 And who would like to read that? Verses 7 through 10. 00:36:12.68\00:36:15.75 Do I have a volunteer? OK, Mrs. Gloria. 00:36:15.95\00:36:19.50 Exodus chapter 3 verses 7 through 10. 00:36:19.70\00:36:22.18 "And the Lord said: 'I have surely seen the oppression 00:36:27.12\00:36:31.33 of My people who are in Egypt 00:36:31.43\00:36:33.98 and have heard their cry because of their task masters 00:36:34.18\00:36:38.14 for I know their sorrows. 00:36:38.25\00:36:40.84 So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand 00:36:41.04\00:36:44.65 of the Egyptians and to bring them up from the land 00:36:44.75\00:36:49.08 to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk 00:36:49.19\00:36:52.90 and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites 00:36:53.00\00:36:57.22 and the Amorites and the Perizzites 00:36:57.42\00:37:00.00 and the Hivites and Jebu... " Jebusites, right. 00:37:00.21\00:37:05.33 Go ahead. "Now therefore, behold the cry 00:37:05.47\00:37:09.33 of the children of Israel has come to Me 00:37:09.43\00:37:12.32 and I have also seen the oppression with which 00:37:12.35\00:37:16.31 the Egyptians oppress them. 00:37:16.41\00:37:18.53 Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh 00:37:18.73\00:37:23.55 that you may bring My people - the children of Israel - 00:37:23.75\00:37:28.30 out of Egypt. ' " So God now is coming down to Moses. 00:37:28.40\00:37:31.46 Moses has been in the wilderness for quite a while now... 00:37:31.56\00:37:34.02 about 40 years. 00:37:34.12\00:37:35.59 Remember, it was 40 years prior to this that He'd put it on 00:37:35.79\00:37:39.24 Moses' heart to visit the children of Israel. 00:37:39.45\00:37:40.97 And then this is 40 years later. 00:37:41.17\00:37:42.99 And God is calling... God is calling Moses now. 00:37:43.19\00:37:45.77 Says: "OK, we're going to go deliver the people now, 00:37:45.87\00:37:47.37 the children of Israel. The timeline prophecy has 00:37:47.47\00:37:49.18 come to an end. It's well past. 00:37:49.28\00:37:50.80 Now we're going to... I've heard the cry of them. 00:37:50.90\00:37:52.24 They're crying and they're whining and complaining 00:37:52.34\00:37:53.91 because of all the affliction that's going on with them 00:37:54.01\00:37:56.04 in Egypt. They're in bondage. 00:37:56.14\00:37:57.29 They don't want to be in bondage any more. " 00:37:57.39\00:37:58.56 You can kind of imagine the scenario, right? 00:37:58.66\00:38:00.48 So He raises up a prophet at the end of this timeline prophecy 00:38:00.68\00:38:03.19 to go back and fulfill the timeline prophecy that 00:38:03.29\00:38:06.08 had been given. Right? Let's look at it on the screen. 00:38:06.18\00:38:09.44 He first of all had Enoch. 00:38:09.64\00:38:12.08 Enoch gave a timeline prophecy. 00:38:12.18\00:38:13.59 At the end of the timeline prophecy Noah raised up 00:38:13.79\00:38:16.07 and a deliverer at the end of that timeline prophecy. 00:38:16.27\00:38:20.14 And then you find Abram... who eventually became Abraham 00:38:20.34\00:38:23.62 after he had the son. 00:38:23.72\00:38:25.94 So Abram... he gives a timeline prophecy. 00:38:26.04\00:38:28.16 God gives him a message and He says: "400 years. 00:38:28.36\00:38:30.65 Four hundred years they're going to be in bondage. 00:38:30.85\00:38:32.24 At the end of the 400 years they're going to come out... 00:38:32.44\00:38:34.66 or AFTER actually the 400 years they're going to come out. " 00:38:34.76\00:38:36.85 And so does God leave the children of Israel to wonder? 00:38:37.05\00:38:39.10 Like, OK, the 400 years is up 00:38:39.20\00:38:40.59 and all of a sudden God is just going to make all the Egyptians 00:38:40.70\00:38:42.36 fall down dead and the children of Israel march out? 00:38:42.46\00:38:44.43 Is that what happened? No. He raised up another prophet 00:38:44.63\00:38:46.68 at the end of that timeline. He comes back and he says 00:38:46.78\00:38:48.46 to the people: "You need to prepare yourself. " 00:38:48.56\00:38:50.31 And you remember through the plagues how God used that 00:38:50.41\00:38:52.59 to prepare them to leave. Especially the last plague 00:38:52.69\00:38:54.96 where the first-born was killed. It had to be such a total thing 00:38:55.07\00:38:57.93 of faith for the children of Israel. 00:38:58.03\00:38:59.69 Moses said: "You've got to go and put blood from a lamb 00:38:59.79\00:39:01.95 over your doorpost and that will keep your son from dying. " 00:39:02.05\00:39:04.10 Doesn't that sound weird? 00:39:04.31\00:39:06.05 But you know what? If he didn't do it, do you want me to tell 00:39:06.25\00:39:08.29 you what would happen? Your first-born would die. 00:39:08.39\00:39:10.75 So it's really interesting to me that God would raise up 00:39:10.95\00:39:14.21 a prophet at the end of that timeline 00:39:14.31\00:39:15.65 and say: "OK, it's time to be delivered. 00:39:15.75\00:39:17.16 I've got to prepare you for deliverance. " 00:39:17.26\00:39:18.55 Once again... so you have two timeline prophecies 00:39:18.75\00:39:21.50 in the Bible given by a prophet. 00:39:21.60\00:39:22.69 And at the end of that timeline prophecy 00:39:22.79\00:39:24.38 another prophet raising up to announce the deliverance. 00:39:24.48\00:39:27.97 Is everybody seeing a pattern develop here? 00:39:28.17\00:39:30.27 Yeah? You see what's going on with the pattern? 00:39:30.47\00:39:32.48 Now think about it in the days of Noah... 00:39:32.58\00:39:34.39 Let's suppose that we had Google in the days of Noah. 00:39:34.59\00:39:37.07 What do you think Google would have been saying about Noah? 00:39:37.37\00:39:39.92 A crazy cult, right? Crazy old man building a boat 00:39:40.12\00:39:44.22 in the middle of dry land. It's just never happened before. 00:39:44.32\00:39:46.18 Nothing's going to happen. He would have been slammed. 00:39:46.28\00:39:48.44 You know what turns out? Noah was right! 00:39:48.55\00:39:50.57 Google would have been wrong, yeah. 00:39:50.77\00:39:52.41 Now you all know Google... I'm not talking about 00:39:52.71\00:39:54.72 Google being a person. It's just anybody can go on the 00:39:54.82\00:39:56.67 Internet, put anything out on the Internet. 00:39:56.77\00:39:58.08 Making that point, right? 00:39:58.28\00:39:59.54 Same way with Abraham and Moses. 00:39:59.74\00:40:00.99 But now we're going to look at another timeline prophecy: 00:40:01.19\00:40:02.65 Jeremiah. Now Jeremiah's one of my all-time favorites. 00:40:02.85\00:40:05.55 Because with Jeremiah... You know what you find with him? 00:40:05.75\00:40:08.37 Not one person... you can read the whole book of Jeremiah 00:40:08.57\00:40:10.77 you don't find any time where one person listened to even 00:40:10.88\00:40:13.12 one thing that Jeremiah had to say. 00:40:13.22\00:40:15.50 Nobody! Would you be discouraged? 00:40:15.70\00:40:17.86 Like every time you preach a sermon in a church 00:40:17.96\00:40:20.03 every time you hold an evangelistic series 00:40:20.13\00:40:21.93 every time you go to anything and preach a message 00:40:22.13\00:40:24.84 no one pays any attention to you. 00:40:25.05\00:40:26.36 They say you're wrong; they make fun of you. 00:40:26.56\00:40:28.46 Can you imagine? That's Jeremiah. 00:40:28.66\00:40:30.13 So let's go to Jeremiah now... chapter 29. 00:40:30.33\00:40:32.76 Jeremiah 29. 00:40:32.96\00:40:35.54 And we're going to read verses 4 through 10. 00:40:35.74\00:40:38.64 And I think that Roberto is going to read that for us. 00:40:38.84\00:40:41.19 And if it gets a little too laborious for you, Roberto, 00:40:41.39\00:40:43.30 reading all those texts, I'll pick up and help you out 00:40:43.40\00:40:44.80 with them, OK? And so he's going to read 00:40:45.01\00:40:46.65 Jeremiah chapter 29 verses 4 through 10. 00:40:46.85\00:40:49.55 "Thus says the Lord of Hosts the God of Israel 00:40:50.80\00:40:54.67 to all who were carried away captive 00:40:54.77\00:40:58.63 whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem 00:40:58.83\00:41:03.06 to Babylon: 'build houses and dwell in them; 00:41:03.16\00:41:06.21 plant gardens and eat their fruit. 00:41:06.41\00:41:08.85 Take wives and beget sons and daughters; 00:41:10.12\00:41:15.50 and take wives for your sons and give your daughters 00:41:15.53\00:41:19.20 to husbands so that they may bear sons and daughters. 00:41:19.30\00:41:23.90 That you may be increased there and not diminished. ' " 00:41:24.68\00:41:30.32 OK. Hold it just there for a second. 00:41:30.52\00:41:31.91 So what... basically what's going on here is Jeremiah 00:41:32.11\00:41:34.33 is giving a prophecy. God told Jeremiah 00:41:34.53\00:41:36.25 "Tell the people... tell the people that they're going away 00:41:36.45\00:41:39.22 to Babylon. They're going to be captives in Babylon. 00:41:39.32\00:41:40.89 Get used to the idea. Go ahead and marry wives. 00:41:41.09\00:41:43.46 Go ahead and have sons and daughters. 00:41:43.66\00:41:44.98 Go ahead and build houses because that's where you're 00:41:45.08\00:41:46.69 going. You're going to go there. " 00:41:46.83\00:41:48.73 Now all the modern-day preachers 00:41:48.93\00:41:52.62 the ones with the big mega churches and all the local 00:41:52.82\00:41:55.31 churches - everybody. And all the pastors and the elders 00:41:55.41\00:41:57.94 and everybody. Every religious person basically in the whole 00:41:57.97\00:42:00.63 town of Jerusalem was making fun of Jeremiah. 00:42:00.73\00:42:03.20 And you'll pick that up as you read through the rest of this. 00:42:03.40\00:42:05.57 You'll see that. I want to kind of lay the ground work. 00:42:05.77\00:42:07.24 So right now as you hear it read it'll kind of make sense. 00:42:07.34\00:42:09.46 They're saying... all the so-called prophets were saying 00:42:09.57\00:42:12.13 "Jeremiah's nuts. 00:42:12.23\00:42:13.54 God is with us; He's going to protect us. 00:42:13.74\00:42:15.13 Everything's going to be just fine. " 00:42:15.33\00:42:16.37 As a matter of fact, they would say: "I've had this vision, 00:42:16.47\00:42:18.29 I've had this dream and I'm going to prophesy 00:42:18.49\00:42:20.78 over you and I'm going to tell you that we're God's chosen 00:42:20.88\00:42:23.29 people and nothing's going to happen to us. " 00:42:23.39\00:42:24.84 OK? That's what the prophets were saying; 00:42:25.04\00:42:27.10 that's what the leaders were saying. And if you read Jeremiah 00:42:27.21\00:42:29.20 chapter 1, one of the things I really appreciate about 00:42:29.30\00:42:30.93 Jeremiah was he was really young - very young - 00:42:31.04\00:42:33.92 and very intimated about when God put the call on him 00:42:34.13\00:42:36.58 he's like: "I can't go... I'm just but a child. " 00:42:36.68\00:42:39.24 And God says: "Don't say you're but a child. " 00:42:39.45\00:42:40.87 Jeremiah chapter 1... "Don't say you're but a child. 00:42:41.07\00:42:43.02 I have sent you... go. " 00:42:43.22\00:42:44.78 Kind of the same thing He did with Moses. 00:42:44.98\00:42:45.98 Moses said: "I can't speak to Pharaoh. 00:42:46.08\00:42:47.34 I have uncircumcised lips. " 00:42:47.44\00:42:48.61 And God said: "Don't say that! Go. " 00:42:48.81\00:42:50.80 And these guys eventually obeyed. 00:42:50.93\00:42:52.41 But they were very intimidated - very shy - about delivering 00:42:52.62\00:42:55.93 the message that God had them to deliver. 00:42:56.03\00:42:57.80 OK. So Jeremiah here... he really didn't want to deliver 00:42:58.10\00:43:00.14 the message but he faithfully did it. 00:43:00.24\00:43:01.97 And he said: "Don't listen... " You'll read it here in just 00:43:02.07\00:43:04.22 a minute. Don't listen to your prophets that dream false dreams 00:43:04.33\00:43:07.03 and your sorcerers and these other guys that are 00:43:07.13\00:43:09.30 saying things that aren't true... 00:43:09.40\00:43:10.55 but here's what God has to say. " Now read it to us. 00:43:10.75\00:43:12.58 Now that we have an idea what it's going to be saying. 00:43:12.78\00:43:14.30 "And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you 00:43:14.50\00:43:20.07 to be carried away captive. 00:43:20.17\00:43:22.44 And pray to the Lord for it, 00:43:22.64\00:43:25.15 for in its cities you will have peace. 00:43:25.35\00:43:29.15 For thus saith the Lord of Hosts 00:43:29.35\00:43:33.04 God of Israel... says the Lord of Hosts, God of Israel 00:43:33.24\00:43:38.60 'Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are 00:43:38.80\00:43:42.04 in your midst deceive you 00:43:42.14\00:43:44.43 nor listen to your dreams... 00:43:44.63\00:43:46.68 which you have caused to be dreamed. ' " 00:43:48.87\00:43:50.79 Fascinating. I'm going to stop you right there for a second. 00:43:50.92\00:43:52.35 See what he says there? "Don't listen to the prophets 00:43:52.55\00:43:55.79 and the diviners in the midst of you. 00:43:55.89\00:43:57.36 And don't listen to the dreams which you have called 00:43:57.56\00:43:59.50 to be dreams. " In other words, it's like 00:43:59.60\00:44:01.50 we want this to happen, so a prophet would come along 00:44:01.70\00:44:04.29 and say "Oh, this is going to happen. " 00:44:04.40\00:44:05.62 And we would all say: "We love this prophet because 00:44:05.72\00:44:07.25 he tells us what we want to hear. " 00:44:07.35\00:44:08.41 You understand what's happening here? 00:44:08.61\00:44:10.29 Jeremiah was telling the people not what they wanted to hear. 00:44:10.49\00:44:13.28 And so Jeremiah said: "Now you've got these other prophets 00:44:13.59\00:44:16.51 here... you have these other prophets that are telling you 00:44:16.61\00:44:18.26 what you want to hear. " In other words, they're having 00:44:18.36\00:44:20.02 dreams that you've caused them to dream 00:44:20.12\00:44:22.19 because of the very fact that you want this to happen 00:44:22.39\00:44:24.87 and they said: "Oh, I had a dream and that's exactly 00:44:25.07\00:44:26.35 what's going to happen. " And they're say: "Oh, you must be a 00:44:26.45\00:44:27.85 true prophet. " Isn't that funny how they're willing to embrace, 00:44:27.89\00:44:30.53 all of us too, we are willing to embrace prophets 00:44:30.74\00:44:33.13 if they're going to tell us something good about us. 00:44:33.33\00:44:35.07 You know I've been around a lot of people that... 00:44:35.17\00:44:36.48 that's in different religious movements and they'll say: 00:44:36.58\00:44:39.31 "Yeah, I was prophesied over at church. " 00:44:39.44\00:44:41.40 And they would say: "And in the prophecy he told me I was going 00:44:41.60\00:44:43.89 to be rich. I was going to marry a good looking girl or guy, 00:44:43.99\00:44:46.24 whatever the case may be, you know. 00:44:46.34\00:44:47.35 And the prophesies always come always as pleasing things, 00:44:47.45\00:44:50.18 right? I never had anybody come up to me and say: 00:44:50.28\00:44:52.11 "Yeah, I was prophesied over at church. They told me 00:44:52.21\00:44:53.95 I was going to die in a car wreck tomorrow. " 00:44:54.05\00:44:55.42 You know? Nothing like that. You never hear those kind of things. 00:44:55.62\00:44:57.82 It's always the pleasing things that we want to hear. 00:44:58.02\00:44:59.69 And the Bible says it will be the same way in the last days. 00:44:59.89\00:45:01.92 But go ahead. This is what's happening right now. 00:45:02.12\00:45:03.57 "For they prophesy falsely to you in My name. 00:45:03.77\00:45:09.20 I have not sent them says the Lord. 00:45:09.40\00:45:12.87 For thus saith the Lord: 'after 70 years... ' 00:45:13.07\00:45:16.42 How long? 70. Seventy years. 00:45:16.52\00:45:18.65 "years are complete at Babylon I will visit you and perform 00:45:18.85\00:45:24.32 a good word toward you and cause you to return to this place. " 00:45:24.42\00:45:29.58 Perfect. So how long are they going to be in Babylon 00:45:29.68\00:45:31.78 according to Jeremiah the prophet? 00:45:31.89\00:45:33.20 Seventy years. 00:45:33.50\00:45:34.89 Now this is another what we would call timeline prophecy. 00:45:35.09\00:45:37.98 Right? He's giving a timeline prophecy. 00:45:38.08\00:45:39.53 For 70 years you're going to be in bondage in Babylon. 00:45:39.63\00:45:42.03 And then after the 70 years 00:45:42.23\00:45:43.73 "I'm going to perform My good word toward you 00:45:43.93\00:45:45.50 and I'm going to deliver you. " 00:45:45.60\00:45:46.82 So that's what He's promised them. 00:45:46.92\00:45:48.08 It's a guaranteed thing, right? 00:45:48.28\00:45:50.05 You know, if the Internet was around in Jeremiah's day 00:45:50.25\00:45:53.23 you can imagine what you could have Googled about him. 00:45:53.43\00:45:55.47 None of us would have followed Jeremiah. 00:45:55.68\00:45:57.12 I'm convinced of that. Not one of us would have liked 00:45:57.32\00:45:59.32 to listen to Jeremiah what he had to say. 00:45:59.42\00:46:00.79 As a matter of fact, one of the people who we hold 00:46:00.99\00:46:03.27 in high regard as a prophet even today... 00:46:03.37\00:46:05.44 His name is Daniel. 00:46:05.64\00:46:07.35 Um, I think there's strong 00:46:07.55\00:46:09.23 Biblical evidence that we're going to look at 00:46:09.33\00:46:10.58 here in just a minute that Daniel also 00:46:10.69\00:46:12.42 did not follow Jeremiah 00:46:12.62\00:46:15.43 as a prophet until later on in life. 00:46:15.53\00:46:17.10 Like Daniel was in Jerusalem... 00:46:17.30\00:46:20.46 He was in the city while Jeremiah was saying these things 00:46:20.67\00:46:23.18 right here. He would have been living right here. 00:46:23.28\00:46:24.87 Jeremiah was a contemporary of his. 00:46:25.07\00:46:27.00 OK. So as Jeremiah is saying "you're going to go away 00:46:27.20\00:46:29.08 in bondage for 70 years" Daniel would have been 00:46:29.18\00:46:31.34 one of the young people in the city that would have heard 00:46:31.44\00:46:33.06 that prophecy. But he likely - like many of us - 00:46:33.16\00:46:35.97 would have said: "The majority is not following Jeremiah 00:46:36.07\00:46:38.64 the prophet. The majority is not going along with what 00:46:38.75\00:46:41.05 Jeremiah the prophet is saying. " 00:46:41.15\00:46:42.38 So who do you think we would follow? 00:46:42.58\00:46:44.19 Jeremiah? We would like to think so, wouldn't we? 00:46:44.49\00:46:47.15 But my guess is many of us - probably every one of us - 00:46:47.35\00:46:49.82 would have said: "Well no. The prophets, the priests, 00:46:49.92\00:46:52.26 the leaders in the church... they can't all be wrong. 00:46:52.46\00:46:54.83 Jeremiah must be wrong. " 00:46:55.03\00:46:57.80 Are you following that idea? 00:46:58.10\00:46:59.95 And we know that's the case because as we go to our next 00:47:00.15\00:47:02.10 text - it's going to be on the screen here - Daniel chapter 9. 00:47:02.21\00:47:04.63 Daniel chapter 9 and verse 2 is where we're going to next. 00:47:04.83\00:47:07.12 This is the sixth Spirit of Prophecy text we're going 00:47:07.22\00:47:09.95 to be turning to in the study: 6SP. 00:47:10.05\00:47:12.21 And we just came from Jeremiah 29; 00:47:12.41\00:47:13.87 we're going to Daniel chapter 9. That's to the right of Jeremiah. 00:47:13.97\00:47:16.49 So you have Jeremiah. And then you go to... 00:47:16.59\00:47:19.08 after Jeremiah you've got Lamentations and Ezekiel 00:47:19.28\00:47:21.79 and then you go to the book of Daniel. 00:47:21.99\00:47:23.25 Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel. 00:47:24.58\00:47:26.12 The latter part of Daniel... Daniel chapter 9 00:47:26.22\00:47:28.42 and we're going to start in verse 2. And I'm going to stop 00:47:28.62\00:47:32.45 whoever reads and make quite a bit of commenting. 00:47:32.65\00:47:35.07 And Danielle's going to read for us; she's all ready to read. 00:47:35.17\00:47:37.38 Daniel chapter 9 verse 2, go ahead: 00:47:37.58\00:47:39.84 "In the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood 00:47:40.04\00:47:43.71 by books the number of the years whereof the Word of the Lord 00:47:43.91\00:47:47.40 came to Jeremiah the prophet that He would accomplish 00:47:47.60\00:47:50.55 70 years in the desolations of Jerusalem. " 00:47:50.65\00:47:53.27 So at the end of the 70-year time frame, Daniel is still 00:47:53.47\00:47:55.92 alive! He's an old man by now... 00:47:56.03\00:47:58.14 probably in his early 90's or whatever. 00:47:58.34\00:48:00.02 And he starts thinking back... I can just picture Daniel now. 00:48:00.22\00:48:02.81 He's thinking about like, um, the old days 00:48:02.91\00:48:05.82 and what was going on back in Jerusalem when he was young. 00:48:05.93\00:48:07.95 And perhaps he just gets out the book of Jeremiah the prophet - 00:48:08.05\00:48:11.07 notice that Daniel calls "a contemporary of himself. " 00:48:11.17\00:48:13.25 In other words, living in the same time frame. 00:48:13.45\00:48:14.68 He calls him a prophet and he's calling his writings - 00:48:14.78\00:48:17.11 Jeremiah's writings - prophetic, right? 00:48:17.31\00:48:19.14 And so he's reading the prophecy of Jeremiah. He said: "Oh, 00:48:19.34\00:48:21.63 he said 70 years. " Now why is it Daniel had faith 00:48:21.83\00:48:24.73 in the belief that the 70 years would come to pass? 00:48:24.93\00:48:26.66 It's because that everything that Jeremiah the prophet had 00:48:28.19\00:48:30.66 said had taken place. 00:48:30.86\00:48:32.64 So Jeremiah gives a 70-year time prophecy. 00:48:32.84\00:48:35.52 Daniel realizes 70 years is coming to an end. 00:48:35.56\00:48:37.45 And notice what he says when he begins this prayer. 00:48:37.65\00:48:40.10 I think it's very fascinating. Remember I told you 00:48:40.20\00:48:41.70 I think that Daniel was one of the young people that didn't 00:48:41.80\00:48:44.14 listen to Jeremiah? Daniel confesses that himself. 00:48:44.24\00:48:46.83 He starts this prayer in Daniel chapter 9 00:48:47.03\00:48:49.04 He said: "I set my face... " In verse 3: "I set my face 00:48:49.24\00:48:51.14 to the Lord in prayer, to seek by prayer 00:48:51.24\00:48:54.14 and supplications and fasting and sack cloth and ashes. 00:48:54.24\00:48:56.67 I prayed unto the Lord my God and I made confession 00:48:56.87\00:48:59.19 and said: 'O Lord, great and dreadful God, 00:48:59.29\00:49:01.63 keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love Him 00:49:01.83\00:49:04.49 and them that keep His commandments. ' " 00:49:04.69\00:49:05.93 Who does God keep His covenant with? 00:49:06.03\00:49:07.26 Those that keep His commandments right? 00:49:07.46\00:49:09.50 Love Him and keep His commandments. 00:49:09.60\00:49:10.64 "We have sinned... " We would include who? 00:49:10.74\00:49:14.60 Daniel. We... "We have sinned. 00:49:14.80\00:49:17.09 We have committed iniquity. We have done wickedly. 00:49:17.30\00:49:19.50 We have rebelled in departing from Your precepts 00:49:19.70\00:49:21.95 and Your judgments. " Now look what it says next. 00:49:22.05\00:49:23.73 "Neither have we listened to Your servants the prophets 00:49:23.97\00:49:27.62 which spake in Your name to our kings, 00:49:27.82\00:49:31.64 our princes, our fathers, and to all the people of the land. " 00:49:31.67\00:49:35.63 So Daniel's putting himself with all the rest of them. 00:49:35.83\00:49:37.71 Said: "You know what? We didn't listen to Your prophets. " 00:49:37.81\00:49:40.14 So he just reads the book of Jeremiah. 00:49:41.43\00:49:43.88 He realizes "we should have listened! 00:49:44.08\00:49:46.02 If we would have listened to Jeremiah we would have caused 00:49:46.23\00:49:48.19 ourselves a whole lot less headaches. " Right? 00:49:48.30\00:49:50.32 "If our people, if our princes, if myself would have listened 00:49:50.52\00:49:52.40 to Jeremiah maybe all this wouldn't have happened 00:49:52.50\00:49:54.08 the way it did. " Because he was prophesying that these things 00:49:54.18\00:49:56.54 would happen... we didn't listen to him. 00:49:56.64\00:49:57.92 You notice prior to Jeremiah the 29th chapter 00:49:58.12\00:50:02.44 where we just came from - prior to that - 00:50:02.54\00:50:03.90 Jeremiah's prophecy was along the lines of trying to get 00:50:04.00\00:50:05.97 the people to repent... turn back to God. 00:50:06.07\00:50:08.76 And because they refused to do what God has asked them to do 00:50:08.96\00:50:11.56 he said: "OK, God's had enough of you. You're now going to go 00:50:11.66\00:50:14.73 into bondage for 70 years. " 00:50:14.83\00:50:16.40 Daniel recognizes that. 00:50:16.60\00:50:18.45 So God gives a timeline prophecy through Enoch. 00:50:18.65\00:50:21.34 At the end of that timeline prophecy God raises up Noah. 00:50:21.55\00:50:24.48 Then He gives a timeline prophecy through Abram. 00:50:24.69\00:50:26.70 And at the end of that timeline prophecy God raises up Moses. 00:50:26.91\00:50:30.41 And then God gives another timeline prophecy 00:50:30.71\00:50:33.02 through Jeremiah the prophet. 00:50:33.22\00:50:34.99 And at the end of that timeline prophecy 00:50:35.19\00:50:37.01 God raises up another prophet by the name of Daniel. 00:50:37.22\00:50:40.18 And Daniel says: "Hey, you know what? 00:50:40.39\00:50:42.15 This 70 years is coming to an end. We need to get ready. " 00:50:42.35\00:50:44.82 And he delivers a message to the people. 00:50:45.02\00:50:47.46 Do you see a Biblical pattern here what God does? 00:50:47.66\00:50:49.59 When God gives a timeline prophecy 00:50:49.79\00:50:51.94 he never leaves His people in the dark about the end 00:50:52.14\00:50:54.71 of the timeline prophecy. 00:50:54.81\00:50:56.13 It wouldn't seem fair, would it? 00:50:56.33\00:50:57.59 That He would do that? 00:50:57.79\00:50:58.76 Like to tell them that this was going to happen at the end 00:50:58.86\00:51:00.94 of the timeline prophecy and it's a long time... 00:51:01.04\00:51:02.95 70 years is a long time. Everybody had forgotten 00:51:03.15\00:51:04.98 what was said. They're all in darkness and they're wondering 00:51:05.08\00:51:07.01 what's going to happen. For God just to leave it to go 00:51:07.11\00:51:08.96 to go blank and no one 00:51:09.06\00:51:10.26 understands He was getting ready 00:51:10.36\00:51:11.36 to be delivered and then deliver 00:51:11.46\00:51:12.71 them all of a sudden. I mean that would be a nice thing 00:51:12.82\00:51:14.50 to have a present like that, 00:51:14.60\00:51:15.62 wouldn't it? But God wants to prepare His people 00:51:15.72\00:51:18.00 for their deliverance. 00:51:18.10\00:51:20.11 When these time-line prophecies come to an end 00:51:20.32\00:51:21.78 God wants to have His people prepared. 00:51:21.88\00:51:23.26 He wants us to be ready. 00:51:23.36\00:51:24.42 He doesn't want to just blind-side us 00:51:24.62\00:51:26.22 and us not know what's going to happen. 00:51:26.32\00:51:27.67 Are you seeing the Biblical pattern here? 00:51:27.97\00:51:30.03 It continues. It continues. 00:51:30.23\00:51:33.20 Let's look at the next one. 00:51:33.30\00:51:34.68 On the screen the next one we're going to is Daniel chapter 9 00:51:34.88\00:51:37.13 and verse 25. Daniel 9:25. 00:51:37.24\00:51:39.89 Did you know that Daniel gave another timeline prophecy 00:51:39.99\00:51:42.46 himself? He gives a timeline prophecy... Daniel does here. 00:51:42.56\00:51:46.00 Now you've already studied this timeline prophecy here 00:51:46.20\00:51:49.27 with Pastor Scott when he did the 70-week prophecy 00:51:49.47\00:51:52.14 or Daniel chapter 9 in the study. He did Daniel chapter 9 00:51:52.34\00:51:55.68 with you, so we've already seen this one before. 00:51:55.78\00:51:57.89 And what we're looking at now is that this timeline prophecy 00:51:58.10\00:52:01.05 when he gives it, God is going to raise up another prophet 00:52:01.15\00:52:03.13 at the end of it to announce it's coming to an end. 00:52:03.23\00:52:05.29 So let us look at Daniel 9 verse 25 00:52:05.49\00:52:07.47 and Tom is going to read that for us. 00:52:07.57\00:52:08.76 Daniel chapter 9 and verse 25. 00:52:08.86\00:52:10.74 "Know therefore and understand that from the going forth 00:52:12.72\00:52:15.76 of the command to restore and build Jerusalem 00:52:15.86\00:52:19.08 until Messiah the Prince 00:52:19.28\00:52:23.19 there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. 00:52:23.39\00:52:26.41 The street shall be built again and the wall... 00:52:26.61\00:52:29.43 even in troublesome times. " 00:52:29.63\00:52:31.01 So you remember that prophecy? You remember what took place? 00:52:31.11\00:52:32.75 It was 69 weeks he just read there. At the end of 69 weeks 00:52:32.95\00:52:35.66 what was going to happen? 00:52:35.76\00:52:36.79 Well, the Messiah would come. 00:52:38.01\00:52:40.47 Remember? It says from the commandment that goes forth 00:52:40.67\00:52:42.73 to rebuild and restore Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince 00:52:42.83\00:52:44.70 would be sixty-nine weeks. 00:52:44.80\00:52:45.81 So we're looking for the Messiah to come at the end of 69 weeks. 00:52:46.01\00:52:48.92 Now, as a timeline prophecy. 00:52:50.17\00:52:52.89 Does God raise up another prophet at the end of the 00:52:53.09\00:52:55.30 69 weeks to let him know that "Hey, you know what? 00:52:55.40\00:52:58.22 Better get ready 'cause the Messiah's here. " 00:52:58.42\00:53:00.39 Who would it be? John the Baptist. 00:53:01.81\00:53:03.63 John the Baptist. Let us look at it. 00:53:03.76\00:53:04.82 Mark... it's on the slide here. We'll go to the next slide 00:53:04.93\00:53:07.09 as we go to the 8th Spirit of Prophecy study here. 00:53:07.19\00:53:08.95 Mark chapter 1 verses 1-3 and verse 15. 00:53:09.16\00:53:12.01 So Mark. We're going to the right. We're in the 00:53:12.21\00:53:14.60 Old Testament book of Daniel. We're going to the right. 00:53:14.70\00:53:16.57 We'll go find the book of Matthew in the New Testament 00:53:16.77\00:53:18.61 and then the next book will be the book of Mark. 00:53:18.71\00:53:20.27 Mark chapter 1. And God did exactly what He said He would 00:53:20.47\00:53:25.85 do: He raises up another prophet. 00:53:25.95\00:53:27.95 Now Mike is going to read Mark. Mark chapter 1 00:53:28.15\00:53:31.16 and read verses 1 through... actually just do 1 through 4. 00:53:31.36\00:53:35.38 1 through 3 is fine but let's just pick up 1 through 4 here. 00:53:35.58\00:53:37.36 "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God. 00:53:39.20\00:53:42.09 As it is written in the prophets: 00:53:42.30\00:53:43.87 Behold, I send My messenger 00:53:43.90\00:53:45.57 before Thy face which shall prepare Thy way before Thee. 00:53:45.61\00:53:48.36 The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare ye the way 00:53:48.56\00:53:51.66 of the Lord. Make His paths straight. ' 00:53:51.77\00:53:54.08 John did baptize in the wilderness and preached the 00:53:54.28\00:53:56.85 baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. " 00:53:56.95\00:54:00.37 So it's getting close to the Messiah to be here, right? 00:54:00.57\00:54:03.00 John the Baptist is coming along... he's preaching. 00:54:03.21\00:54:05.06 It says... how it's worded there in Mark chapter 1 00:54:05.27\00:54:07.94 "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ... " 00:54:08.14\00:54:09.86 So John here is preaching about the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:54:10.06\00:54:13.10 He says: "As it is written in the prophets 00:54:13.30\00:54:15.40 I'm sending My messenger before Thy face. " 00:54:15.60\00:54:16.93 And this messenger was? It was John the Baptist. 00:54:17.13\00:54:19.43 And he comes preaching the baptism of repentance 00:54:19.63\00:54:21.39 for the remission of sins. 00:54:21.49\00:54:22.50 I think it's very interesting when Mike reads our next text 00:54:22.70\00:54:25.48 here in Mark chapter 1 and verse 15... 00:54:25.58\00:54:27.68 When he gets to that text you're going to find it's 00:54:27.88\00:54:29.43 very interesting what Jesus says as He begins the 00:54:29.53\00:54:33.55 explanation of John basically. John had just baptized Jesus 00:54:33.65\00:54:37.98 and Jesus comes along with another message, Mike. 00:54:38.08\00:54:40.30 And what is that message that Jesus comes along with? 00:54:40.50\00:54:42.21 "And saying: 'the time is fulfilled... ' " What time? 00:54:42.41\00:54:45.98 The time prophecy. What time prophecy is that? 00:54:46.18\00:54:48.16 The coming of the Messiah... The 69 weeks, right? 00:54:48.36\00:54:50.40 He said it's fulfilled. 00:54:50.50\00:54:51.52 Carry on. "And the kingdom of God is at hand. 00:54:51.72\00:54:54.63 Repent ye and believe the gospel. " 00:54:54.83\00:54:56.82 Isn't that fascinating? 00:54:56.92\00:54:57.98 It's just right on time. 00:54:58.18\00:54:59.32 Jesus comes along after John comes along 00:54:59.43\00:55:01.15 announcing the end of the 69 weeks, Mike. 00:55:01.25\00:55:02.89 He comes along announcing the end of the 69 weeks. 00:55:03.09\00:55:04.91 And then Jesus comes and says what? 00:55:05.11\00:55:06.84 "The time is fulfilled. " 00:55:07.04\00:55:08.41 What time? You know, it's the 69 weeks. 00:55:08.61\00:55:11.64 Powerful isn't it? 00:55:11.84\00:55:13.01 So God is establishing this pattern 00:55:13.21\00:55:14.77 and this pattern continues through the Bible. 00:55:14.87\00:55:16.35 It starts off with Enoch giving a timeline prophecy 00:55:16.45\00:55:19.61 and then it goes on from there to... after the timeline 00:55:19.81\00:55:23.17 prophecy Noah comes along. Then Abram and then Moses. 00:55:23.27\00:55:25.84 And then Jeremiah and Daniel. 00:55:25.94\00:55:27.39 Daniel gives a timeline prophecy, and at the end 00:55:27.59\00:55:29.38 of Daniel's timeline prophecy God does not leave His people 00:55:29.48\00:55:32.11 in the dark. He comes with this powerful message. 00:55:32.21\00:55:34.32 Now by the way, it's getting more into modern times 00:55:34.52\00:55:36.87 and I want you to think about John. 00:55:37.07\00:55:39.51 John wore strange clothes. 00:55:39.71\00:55:42.06 John ate strange food. 00:55:42.26\00:55:44.48 And John had a strange message that was different than 00:55:44.68\00:55:47.47 anybody else was wearing, eating, and preaching 00:55:47.57\00:55:50.15 in that day. Isn't that interesting? 00:55:50.26\00:55:52.96 And so John's message here as he comes along preaching 00:55:53.16\00:55:56.38 is basically: "Repent, turn back. The Messiah is coming. " 00:55:56.48\00:56:01.64 He's preparing the way for the Messiah 00:56:01.84\00:56:03.14 and he's fulfilling the end of the timeline prophecy. 00:56:03.24\00:56:06.12 He's coming to the end of this timeline prophecy 00:56:06.32\00:56:08.69 and he says: "You need to get ready... 00:56:08.89\00:56:10.18 You need to get ready; the Messiah is coming. " 00:56:10.28\00:56:12.08 And so he announces that Jesus is going to come. 00:56:12.28\00:56:14.11 He announces the end of the 69 weeks. 00:56:14.21\00:56:15.83 And I suppose - I just suppose - I can imagine 00:56:16.03\00:56:19.04 if the Internet was around in the day of John the Baptist 00:56:19.24\00:56:21.89 what they would have been saying about him. 00:56:21.99\00:56:23.16 This strange guy living out in the wilderness 00:56:23.36\00:56:25.82 wearing this odd clothing, you know. 00:56:26.02\00:56:28.74 Unlike what everybody else was wearing in the day. 00:56:28.88\00:56:31.26 Preaching this strange message unlike what everybody else 00:56:31.46\00:56:33.64 was preaching... he must be the leader of a cult. 00:56:33.74\00:56:35.90 No one go listen. As a matter of fact, 00:56:36.10\00:56:38.45 you can remember what the leaders said about Jesus. 00:56:38.55\00:56:41.72 "We're not following Him, " right? 00:56:41.92\00:56:44.47 And after John the Baptist points to Jesus 00:56:44.61\00:56:46.34 no one else wanted to follow because... well... 00:56:46.44\00:56:48.76 the leaders weren't doing it. 00:56:48.96\00:56:50.23 Now Daniel gives another timeline prophecy. 00:56:50.43\00:56:53.69 John the Baptist was raised up to announce the end of 00:56:54.98\00:56:57.00 the timeline prophecy. 00:56:57.10\00:56:58.38 Daniel gives another timeline prophecy 00:56:58.58\00:57:00.41 and oh... I'm so sorry... you've got to wait until our next study 00:57:00.62\00:57:06.21 to find out what his next timeline prophecy is 00:57:06.31\00:57:08.23 and who announces the end of that. 00:57:08.43\00:57:10.32 It's a perfect time to end 00:57:10.53\00:57:11.61 right here. So we've got about 00:57:11.72\00:57:13.39 a half a minute left to go here 00:57:13.49\00:57:14.56 on the video and then we're 00:57:14.66\00:57:16.11 going to go to take a little break here 00:57:16.21\00:57:17.25 I'll let you guys get a water break; I'll take one myself. 00:57:17.35\00:57:19.52 And I want to encourage the people at home 00:57:19.72\00:57:21.73 to continue to follow along. 00:57:21.93\00:57:23.33 You want to come back and catch the rest of this study. 00:57:23.43\00:57:25.04 You don't want to miss it because you get to find out 00:57:25.14\00:57:26.69 how God finishes the next timeline prophecy 00:57:26.79\00:57:28.93 and who the following prophet was that He raised up 00:57:29.14\00:57:31.02 at the end of that. So Daniel gives another timeline 00:57:31.12\00:57:32.77 prophecy. That's where we're going to next. 00:57:32.87\00:57:34.62 So you can go onto our website; continue to follow along 00:57:34.83\00:57:37.00 at www.ComeExperienceLife.com 00:57:37.20\00:57:40.16 and we'll see you back here in just a few minutes. 00:57:40.36\00:57:43.07
