prophet. But I thought more

call a spiritualist.

prophet... I used to think of,

think of palm reading

or you know the Tarot
card and things like that.

But when someone said prophet
that's just like what came

as I found out from the Bible

in a Bible perspective
that's not what the description

Bible. As a matter of fact,

to mind actually God condemns.

about those people when it's

It actually condemns that.

I met a prophet once

I was a literature evangelist.

offices and things like that?

And I used to sell
those. And usually we'd run on

people would fill out the card

at the doctor's office
and they would send it in

and we'd go to the doors.
But one day up in Kentucky

I was in a sub-holler.
A sub-holler is where...

Well a holler is where
two hills come together

and it's in between there
that's the holler where you go

up the middle of a hill:
that's what they call a holler

was up in a holler working

just knocking on doors,
and I went into a sub-holler.

a whole bunch of little trailers

And I'm going to the doors

lady comes to the door

on in. And we sat down in her

sat down and started showing her

so she said "excuse me. "

she said; "Oh, yeah, just...

me back here in a few minutes. "

So she hung up the phone
and we get right back into it.

And I open up the stuff again
and start showing it to her

and her phone rings. And by
the way, all the time that her

phone is ringing she has these
three little boys like this big,

they're real close together...

And they're just wrestling
and making all kinds of racket.

case pulling my stuff out.

attention. I mean it's
just chaotic in the house.

rang again the second time.

So she hangs up the phone

later... I mean, it wasn't...

sentence out. Now you know

And so I started speaking
again to show her the books

Now this happened
something like 4, maybe 5 times

And I said: "Look,

but we're in the middle of
nowhere. Does the same person

" She said: "No, no,

it's different people. "

I said: "Wow, you must be
really popular 'cause, you know,

there's not a whole lot of
people around here anyway. "

She said:
"Well, I'm a prophet. "

I said: "Oh, really?

Well what's that have to
do with your phone ringing,

you know? " And she
said: "Well, my church members
00:08:17.17\00:08:19.00
and stuff they call and
they ask me you know like

if it's OK for them to go...
if it's safe for them to go

to the store today
and this kind of thing. "

I said: "Really?

They call you to find out
if it's safe to go places? "

She said: "Yeah, God reveals
that to me and I tell them. "

And I said: "Oh, so you're
like a spiritualist, like, not a

prophet but a fortune
teller. " She said: "No, no.

I go to such and such
church and I'm a prophet there

in the church. " "Oh!
" So I'm getting really

a little nervous, especially
with the boys pulling on me

and acting wild too. Just
an uncomfortable situation.

So I show her the books,
and she had no money or anything

to give me any money
for the books. I gave her

a free book and I said:
"Well, you know, I'd like to

and all of a sudden
she said to the boys:

"Hey, we're going to pray. "
The noise level went up about

just went up that much louder

that much more rowdy.

They're doing this
thing. I remember when I played

thing... one of the exercises

You know, we had three guys

over him and hit the ground

another guy would jump over him

They just kept doing this...

about? Just over one another?

That's like what they were doing
in the middle of the floor while

I was praying. So
my prayer in my mind...

hear me... I was kind of praying

that the Lord would
just get me out of there.

And He did. And so
that was my experience

with a prophet.
Not much, I know.

But my idea of a prophet growing
up was something like that.

Like someone would call the
fortune teller kind of thing.

And the reason I went
through that whole long story

to give you an idea.

When someone says prophet,
many people out in the world -

the secular world

that's what they think of.

So when you start talking
about in a study, a Bible study,

the Spirit of Prophecy, you
have to be very explanatory.

talking about a fortune teller.

major prophets and

died was Enoch's son Methuselah.

So the guy that was the
oldest guy that ever died

oldest guy that ever lived.

So Methuselah was the
oldest guy that ever died

and Enoch was the oldest guy

that ever lived. He's still
alive; he was just taken off

In other words, they're having

willing to embrace prophets

if they're going to tell
us something good about us.

around a lot of people that...

movements and they'll say:

prophecy he told me I was going

to be rich. I was going to marry
a good looking girl or guy,

And the prophesies always
come always as pleasing things,

anybody come up to me and say:

"Yeah, I was prophesied
over at church. They told me

I was going to die in
a car wreck tomorrow. "

You know? Nothing like that. You
never hear those kind of things.

It's always the pleasing
things that we want to hear.

Biblical evidence

did not follow Jeremiah

as a prophet
until later on in life.

Like Daniel was in Jerusalem...

He was in the city while
Jeremiah was saying these things

have been living right here.

contemporary of his.

OK. So as Jeremiah is
saying "you're going to go away

the city that would have heard

that prophecy. But he
likely - like many of us -

is not following Jeremiah

prophet is saying. "
