The harvest truly is plenteous But the laborers are few. 00:00:01.98\00:00:03.32 Pray ye, therefore, the Lord of the harvest 00:00:03.72\00:00:06.14 that He will... He will send forth laborers into His harvest. 00:00:06.34\00:00:10.33 Also I heard the voice of the Lord say: 00:00:10.53\00:00:13.16 "Who shall I send? " 00:00:13.46\00:00:14.89 "And who will go for us? " 00:00:14.99\00:00:17.71 Then said I: "Here am I, send me... send me. " 00:00:17.81\00:00:22.97 Life on the Edge will enable you to be an effective harvester 00:00:23.17\00:00:26.69 for the Lord. We now invite you into our classroom 00:00:26.79\00:00:30.06 to come experience LIFE. 00:00:30.16\00:00:34.70 We'd like to welcome you back 00:00:43.26\00:00:45.05 to the Lay Institute for Evangelism. 00:00:45.25\00:00:48.27 We'd like to welcome those of you that are at home 00:00:48.47\00:00:51.35 into our classroom. You are 00:00:51.56\00:00:53.22 going to experience life today. 00:00:53.42\00:00:57.03 The topic that we're going over 00:00:57.23\00:00:58.25 today is the second part or the second half 00:00:58.35\00:01:01.48 of our Law of God study. 00:01:01.68\00:01:04.63 We've already covered the first half of this study 00:01:04.83\00:01:07.46 and now we're going to go right into the second half. 00:01:07.56\00:01:09.66 So if you'll go the graphic there, you'll note that the 00:01:09.76\00:01:12.27 topic of this study is The Law of God. 00:01:12.38\00:01:15.97 You'll also see there on your screen that the purpose 00:01:16.17\00:01:19.42 of this Bible study is: 00:01:19.63\00:01:21.35 Now there's some of you at home that have not seen the first 00:01:31.55\00:01:34.79 half of this presentation. 00:01:34.89\00:01:36.82 And you'll want to make sure that you watch that 00:01:37.02\00:01:39.27 because this is a continuation of the first one. 00:01:39.47\00:01:41.86 And it's in the first one where we talked about Jesus. 00:01:42.06\00:01:44.64 We talked about grace 00:01:44.84\00:01:46.14 and we talked about the Biblical definition of sin. 00:01:46.34\00:01:48.79 And we're going to give you an illustration of that 00:01:49.00\00:01:50.98 in just a moment. 00:01:51.18\00:01:52.25 Every one of our Bible studies here at LIFE 00:01:52.45\00:01:54.94 during this Life on the Edge course 00:01:55.04\00:01:57.47 are centered on Jesus Christ. 00:01:57.67\00:02:00.26 Our screen shows us that the Center It today is: 00:02:00.56\00:02:03.30 And as you recall, in our studies we are marking these 00:02:23.00\00:02:26.43 in the front of our Bible or the back of our Bible 00:02:26.63\00:02:28.92 so that we can then give the studies to other people 00:02:29.02\00:02:31.51 in their homes or at the office of wherever it is 00:02:31.71\00:02:34.22 we want to give a study. 00:02:34.32\00:02:35.60 You see there on the graphic that we have 17 texts 00:02:35.80\00:02:38.74 in this Bible study. And these 17 texts 00:02:38.94\00:02:42.84 are divided into four different sections: 00:02:43.04\00:02:45.79 Jesus, Grace, Sin, and Law. 00:02:45.99\00:02:49.87 In the first half of our study 00:02:50.08\00:02:53.07 we talked about Jesus, grace, and sin 00:02:53.27\00:02:56.17 and today we're going to be talking about the law. 00:02:56.27\00:02:58.38 The next two graphics that you see there 00:02:58.58\00:03:00.51 are just these four divisions with a larger font 00:03:00.71\00:03:03.94 so that you can see those... those references there. 00:03:04.14\00:03:07.06 And again, for those of you at home, 00:03:07.16\00:03:08.77 if you haven't gone to our website 00:03:08.97\00:03:11.03 comeexperiencelife. com 00:03:11.23\00:03:13.98 you'll want to go to our website where you can download 00:03:14.18\00:03:16.91 the handouts from our website and that way you'll be able to 00:03:17.11\00:03:19.88 follow along not only on the television screen 00:03:19.98\00:03:23.13 but you'll also be able to follow along on those notes. 00:03:23.33\00:03:26.34 The next graphic here is just the larger font 00:03:26.54\00:03:29.48 of the texts that we use to define sin 00:03:29.68\00:03:32.84 and then the texts that we're going to talk about now 00:03:33.04\00:03:35.89 as we talk about the law of God. 00:03:36.09\00:03:39.68 Before we get into this study, though, 00:03:39.88\00:03:42.16 I need to have four volunteers. 00:03:42.36\00:03:44.54 Four volunteers. So Shelleta, if you could come up front. 00:03:44.74\00:03:47.78 And, uh, uh, oh come on... what am I doing this for? 00:03:47.98\00:03:51.86 Get up here, Mike. And Tom and how about you, Marci. 00:03:52.26\00:03:58.26 Jessica, come on up here. 00:03:58.36\00:04:00.68 All right. So we're just going to start over here 00:04:00.88\00:04:02.87 on this side of the room. And Shelleta, you are going to 00:04:02.97\00:04:07.60 represent the law. OK. So Shelleta is the what? 00:04:07.70\00:04:11.26 She's the law. You are going to represent, 00:04:11.46\00:04:14.06 and I'm sorry brother, you're going to represent sin. 00:04:14.26\00:04:17.36 Sin. He does have a black shirt on today, so that's... 00:04:17.56\00:04:19.64 that's fine. You are going to represent, Mike... 00:04:19.74\00:04:21.79 you're going to represent grace. 00:04:21.99\00:04:23.68 And Jessica, you are going to represent Jesus. 00:04:23.89\00:04:27.53 Now how many of you... maybe some of you at home 00:04:27.83\00:04:30.23 maybe people here in the classroom... 00:04:30.43\00:04:31.98 you have heard others say that the law of God was nailed 00:04:32.18\00:04:36.08 to the cross. Have you ever heard somebody say that? 00:04:36.28\00:04:38.29 That the law of God was nailed to the cross. 00:04:38.49\00:04:40.77 Well, let's suppose that God's law was nailed to the cross. 00:04:40.97\00:04:45.13 So law, you're nailed to the cross. You have a seat. 00:04:45.33\00:04:48.25 If we do not have the law, 00:04:49.71\00:04:52.47 then we do not have the Biblical definition of sin. 00:04:52.77\00:04:57.13 Because sin as you remember from our previous program 00:04:57.16\00:05:00.07 sin is the transgression or the breaking of God's law. 00:05:00.27\00:05:04.26 So since we don't have a law any more in theory 00:05:04.46\00:05:07.53 then we don't have what? Sin. 00:05:07.73\00:05:10.20 Sin: why don't you just go ahead and have a seat. 00:05:10.30\00:05:12.64 Now the Bible told us in our last program 00:05:12.84\00:05:16.18 that grace was the power of God. 00:05:16.39\00:05:19.55 Do you remember that? We used three references to show 00:05:19.75\00:05:21.81 that grace is the power of God that save us through our faith. 00:05:22.01\00:05:26.88 But since we don't need to be saved from sin any more 00:05:27.08\00:05:30.98 because we don't have a law whereby sin is defined, 00:05:31.18\00:05:33.98 then we don't need grace to help us overcome sin. 00:05:34.18\00:05:37.97 You understand? So grace, we don't need you... 00:05:38.17\00:05:40.84 so you can just have a seat. 00:05:41.04\00:05:42.59 And you can see where this is going, can't you? 00:05:42.79\00:05:44.33 You can see exactly where this is headed. 00:05:44.53\00:05:46.19 If we don't need grace, the Bible told us in 00:05:46.39\00:05:49.38 John chapter 1 verse 14. John chapter 1 verse 14 00:05:49.48\00:05:53.05 says that: "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us 00:05:53.25\00:05:57.83 and we beheld His glory - the glory as of the only begotten 00:05:58.03\00:06:01.80 of the Father - full of grace and truth. " 00:06:01.90\00:06:05.80 And the One that became flesh and dwelt among us - 00:06:06.10\00:06:08.81 the only begotten of the Father - is who? 00:06:09.01\00:06:10.89 Jesus. So it's Jesus that's full of grace and truth. 00:06:11.09\00:06:14.09 Since we don't need grace 00:06:14.29\00:06:16.48 because we don't have sin to overcome 00:06:16.68\00:06:18.89 because there is no law, 00:06:18.99\00:06:20.27 then who else don't we need? We don't need Jesus. 00:06:20.47\00:06:23.50 So Jesus... please, have a seat. 00:06:23.70\00:06:25.92 You see how dangerous it is for us to say 00:06:26.12\00:06:29.96 that we do not need... the law has been nailed to the cross. 00:06:30.16\00:06:35.14 That's dangerous, isn't it? 00:06:35.25\00:06:36.39 Because if the law was nailed to the cross 00:06:36.59\00:06:38.73 and thereby done away with... no longer valid, 00:06:38.93\00:06:42.59 then there is no Biblical definition of sin. 00:06:42.79\00:06:46.58 There's no standard by which to measure the difference between 00:06:46.78\00:06:51.85 right and wrong. So... no law, no sin. 00:06:52.05\00:06:55.39 No sin... we don't need grace to overcome sin 00:06:55.59\00:06:58.64 because there is no sin. 00:06:58.84\00:06:59.92 And if we don't need grace to overcome sin, then 00:07:00.12\00:07:02.54 we don't need who? Jesus. 00:07:02.64\00:07:04.81 Are you comfortable doing away with Jesus? 00:07:05.01\00:07:08.52 I'm not comfortable doing away with Jesus either. 00:07:08.92\00:07:12.46 Why am I not comfortable? Why are you not comfortable? 00:07:12.66\00:07:15.40 Because we need Jesus to give us His grace 00:07:15.60\00:07:21.46 to help us overcome sin. 00:07:21.66\00:07:24.77 And all of us, the Bible says, sin. 00:07:24.97\00:07:28.52 That was even after the cross that the Bible says 00:07:28.72\00:07:32.39 that "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. " 00:07:32.59\00:07:35.39 That was even after the cross. 00:07:35.59\00:07:37.81 So we still have sin which is defined Biblically 00:07:38.01\00:07:41.92 as the transgression of God's law. 00:07:41.95\00:07:46.58 So we don't want to do away with the law, do we? 00:07:47.08\00:07:49.70 Because if we do away with the law, we ultimately do away 00:07:50.00\00:07:52.28 with our Savior who is Jesus Christ. 00:07:52.38\00:07:55.25 Now again, this is going to be a little bit more review 00:07:55.65\00:07:58.14 for those of you that are at home, for those of you 00:07:58.34\00:08:00.13 that didn't watch the first program. 00:08:00.23\00:08:01.91 So we're going to go back to our screen now 00:08:02.11\00:08:04.17 and you will see there that... Let's turn in our Bibles 00:08:04.37\00:08:08.26 to Daniel. You don't have to turn there. 00:08:08.46\00:08:09.87 Actually I have a slide for it. 00:08:09.97\00:08:10.98 You'll note there on the screen Daniel 7:25 says: 00:08:11.18\00:08:14.68 Now, the antichrist power thinks to change God's times 00:08:32.95\00:08:38.27 and God's law. 00:08:38.47\00:08:41.41 Is it possible for anyone to change God's time or God's law? 00:08:41.44\00:08:46.09 It's not. That's why this reference says 00:08:46.30\00:08:48.25 "thinks to change. " He wants to change it 00:08:48.45\00:08:50.87 but he can't change it because when God says something 00:08:51.07\00:08:54.37 it stands fast, doesn't it? 00:08:54.57\00:08:56.23 So over here on the antichrist side of your screen 00:08:56.43\00:08:59.97 we put Daniel 7:25. 00:09:00.17\00:09:02.32 We're just going to change the slide there 00:09:02.52\00:09:04.81 and you will see that antichrist wants to change God's law. 00:09:05.01\00:09:08.49 Now notice on your screen Matthew chapter 5 and verse 17. 00:09:08.69\00:09:13.26 Matthew chapter 5 verses 17 and 18 the Bible says: 00:09:13.46\00:09:16.58 So you notice on our next screen here 00:09:41.11\00:09:43.43 the antichrist says that God's law will change. 00:09:43.63\00:09:47.30 Jesus Christ says the law will not change. 00:09:47.50\00:09:51.87 So listen very closely. 00:09:52.07\00:09:54.19 Any interpretation of scripture 00:09:54.39\00:09:58.07 that seeks to change or do away with God's law 00:09:58.27\00:10:02.80 is a product of antichrist. 00:10:03.00\00:10:07.12 Let's... let me say that again. 00:10:07.32\00:10:08.98 Any interpretation of scripture 00:10:09.18\00:10:12.80 that seeks to change God's law 00:10:13.00\00:10:16.50 is a product of who? Antichrist. That's right. 00:10:16.71\00:10:21.17 So as we go through the rest of this study today 00:10:21.47\00:10:25.39 we are going to be... We have already looked at Jesus. 00:10:25.59\00:10:29.75 We have already looked at grace. 00:10:30.05\00:10:33.01 We have already looked at sin and now we are going to 00:10:33.21\00:10:35.77 focus on the law. 00:10:35.87\00:10:38.76 So let's go to our next slide there. You see it simply 00:10:38.96\00:10:42.83 has a title which is Law. 00:10:42.93\00:10:45.31 And now we are going to go to our 11th... 00:10:45.41\00:10:47.76 I believe it's our 11th... it is... 00:10:47.86\00:10:49.36 our 11th reference. Our 11th reference is 00:10:49.56\00:10:55.13 Isaiah 59 verses 1 and 2. 00:10:55.33\00:10:58.09 Isaiah 59 verses 1 and 2. 00:10:58.29\00:11:00.85 This is the tail end of the sin... the sin aspect 00:11:01.05\00:11:05.51 of the four divisions of this study. 00:11:05.71\00:11:08.07 So we'll pick up there at the very last reference 00:11:08.27\00:11:10.54 speaking about sin and the result of sin 00:11:10.74\00:11:13.70 and then we will go into our 12th text where it talks about 00:11:13.90\00:11:17.58 the law of God. 00:11:17.78\00:11:19.71 So we're going to the Old Testament book of Isaiah. 00:11:19.91\00:11:22.77 Isaiah chapter 59. 00:11:22.97\00:11:25.32 And I'll go ahead and read this one today. 00:11:25.52\00:11:29.43 Or this one... this text right here. Isaiah 59 verses 1 and 2. 00:11:29.63\00:11:35.22 The Bible says: "Behold, 00:11:35.42\00:11:37.69 the Lord's hand is not shortened 00:11:37.79\00:11:40.73 that He cannot save 00:11:40.93\00:11:42.67 neither His ear heavy 00:11:42.87\00:11:45.16 that it cannot hear. " 00:11:45.37\00:11:46.77 So just notice in this text 00:11:47.08\00:11:48.89 right here. When you're giving this Bible study 00:11:48.99\00:11:50.55 what you're drawing out of this text is that God's hand 00:11:50.75\00:11:53.70 is not too short to save someone. 00:11:53.91\00:11:55.70 What do you say to that? Amen! 00:11:55.90\00:11:59.08 Then it says: "Neither His ear too heavy that He cannot hear. " 00:11:59.38\00:12:05.26 So is God able to save us regardless of where we are 00:12:05.66\00:12:09.04 in our walk, in our life? HE IS! 00:12:09.24\00:12:12.57 His hand is not too short that He can't reach down and save us 00:12:12.77\00:12:15.58 nor is His ear too heavy that He cannot hear us. 00:12:15.78\00:12:19.20 Notice the first word in verse 2. 00:12:19.51\00:12:23.03 The first word in verse 2 is what? 00:12:23.23\00:12:25.86 But. But. That means in total contradiction 00:12:26.06\00:12:30.67 to what was just said. 00:12:30.87\00:12:32.50 "The Lord's hand is not shortened that He cannot save 00:12:32.70\00:12:35.71 nor His ear too heavy that He cannot hear 00:12:35.91\00:12:37.94 but... " Notice what it says here: 00:12:38.14\00:12:40.35 "your iniquities have separated between you and your God 00:12:40.55\00:12:46.43 and your sins have hid His face from you 00:12:46.63\00:12:51.32 that He WILL NOT hear. " 00:12:51.52\00:12:55.69 So sin is a thing to be avoided, isn't it? 00:12:55.89\00:13:00.77 Because sin or iniquity separates us 00:13:00.97\00:13:06.78 from God. 00:13:06.98\00:13:09.12 So if you and I cherish sin: 00:13:10.89\00:13:14.54 something that we know to be wrong, 00:13:14.74\00:13:18.50 something that we know displeases God, 00:13:18.70\00:13:21.97 if we cherish it... And some people say: 00:13:22.17\00:13:23.84 "But I don't cherish sin. " 00:13:23.94\00:13:25.38 You have something in your life that you're not struggling with 00:13:26.80\00:13:31.60 that you continually do and you know displeases God? 00:13:31.90\00:13:35.60 Some people will say to me: "But you know, Pastor, 00:13:35.70\00:13:37.58 I'm not convicted that I should stop. " 00:13:37.78\00:13:39.92 You don't have to be convicted to know whether something 00:13:41.33\00:13:45.33 is right or wrong. 00:13:45.43\00:13:47.05 If the Bible tells us that it's wrong 00:13:47.25\00:13:50.16 whether we are convicted or not, then we know that it is 00:13:50.36\00:13:52.60 what? Wrong. 00:13:52.80\00:13:54.83 So when God shows us something and we refuse to do it, 00:13:55.99\00:14:00.81 when God is working on our hearts but we refuse to follow 00:14:01.02\00:14:06.03 what God is asking us to do, then we are cherishing sin. 00:14:06.23\00:14:10.70 So when you're giving this Bible study it's very important 00:14:10.80\00:14:13.08 that the people that you're giving the Bible study to 00:14:13.28\00:14:15.40 understand that God can save anyone that comes to Him. 00:14:15.61\00:14:19.67 In a moment He can save them. 00:14:19.87\00:14:21.63 For those of us that are saved we must be very careful 00:14:23.12\00:14:28.20 not to cherish sin. 00:14:28.30\00:14:31.16 We must try to remove ourselves from sin. 00:14:32.39\00:14:36.32 But we can't do that without what? Grace... 00:14:36.35\00:14:39.76 which is the power of God. And who is full of grace? 00:14:39.96\00:14:43.77 Jesus was full of grace. 00:14:44.07\00:14:46.28 So we have seen here that in the sin aspect 00:14:46.48\00:14:49.89 that sin separates or puts a gap between us and God. 00:14:50.09\00:14:55.32 Is it because God doesn't want to be with us? 00:14:55.52\00:14:57.34 No. God wants to be with us 00:14:57.54\00:14:59.67 but God gives us the power of choice 00:14:59.87\00:15:04.12 and He'll never force us. If we choose sin, 00:15:04.32\00:15:07.02 He'll let us go that way because He won't force us. 00:15:07.22\00:15:12.11 So now we've finished up with sin there. 00:15:12.34\00:15:14.71 And again, those of you at home will want to watch the first 00:15:14.91\00:15:17.12 half of this if you haven't. 00:15:17.22\00:15:18.68 And our next reference here moving right into the law texts 00:15:18.88\00:15:22.78 is Revelation chapter 12 and verse 17. 00:15:22.99\00:15:26.79 So often I hear people say that the law of God does not 00:15:26.99\00:15:31.50 matter to the Christian experience today. 00:15:31.70\00:15:34.27 It just doesn't make a difference. 00:15:34.47\00:15:36.23 But what does the Bible say in Revelation chapter 12 00:15:36.43\00:15:41.02 and verse 17? Revelation chapter 12 verse 17. 00:15:41.22\00:15:46.55 We will go ahead and let Shelleta read this. 00:15:46.65\00:15:51.04 Revelation chapter 12 and verse 17. 00:15:51.24\00:15:56.74 So those of you at home, you're turning to Revelation 00:16:01.39\00:16:03.18 chapter 12, turning to the 17th verse, and now she's going 00:16:03.38\00:16:06.76 to read for us: "And the dragon was wroth with the woman 00:16:06.86\00:16:10.50 and went to make war with the remnant of her seed 00:16:10.70\00:16:13.60 which keep the commandments of God 00:16:13.80\00:16:15.98 and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. " 00:16:16.08\00:16:18.02 OK. So the Bible says the dragon was wroth with the woman. 00:16:18.22\00:16:23.09 Who is the dragon? Satan. 00:16:23.19\00:16:25.96 So those of you that are marking your Bibles 00:16:26.19\00:16:28.28 right above that where it says dragon you may want to 00:16:28.38\00:16:31.61 put a reference. Just put Revelation chapter 12 00:16:31.71\00:16:36.14 verse 9. Revelation chapter 12 verse 9 is what tells us 00:16:36.34\00:16:41.06 that the dragon is the same as Satan or the devil. 00:16:41.26\00:16:46.09 So just write Revelation 12:9 right above that word dragon 00:16:46.29\00:16:49.21 and then you'll be able to explain that. 00:16:49.41\00:16:51.28 So it says: "And the dragon was wroth... " 00:16:52.18\00:16:54.69 What does the word wroth mean? 00:16:54.89\00:16:56.29 It means angry or enraged, that's right. 00:16:56.49\00:16:59.65 "The dragon" who is the devil... 00:16:59.85\00:17:04.27 So the devil is enraged with the woman. 00:17:04.47\00:17:07.38 Now in Bible prophecy when we're in the 00:17:07.58\00:17:11.36 the New Testament apocalyptic or end-time book... 00:17:11.56\00:17:14.66 in Bible prophecy, 00:17:14.87\00:17:16.46 Bill, tell me what does a woman represent? 00:17:16.66\00:17:19.42 The church. That's right. Yeah, do that again. 00:17:19.73\00:17:22.81 Why don't you do that again? The church. 00:17:23.01\00:17:24.71 That's right. So in Bible prophecy, a woman 00:17:24.82\00:17:27.92 represents a church. So this text is telling us 00:17:28.12\00:17:31.91 that the devil is angry with a church. 00:17:32.11\00:17:37.48 That's absolutely right. 00:17:37.68\00:17:38.86 And then it says... as Shelleta read... 00:17:38.89\00:17:42.81 "And went to make war with the remnant of her seed" 00:17:43.01\00:17:46.90 and then it describes the children or the seed 00:17:47.10\00:17:50.75 of the church. And how does it describe them? 00:17:50.95\00:17:53.51 There's 2 characteristics there. How does it describe them? 00:17:53.71\00:17:55.67 All right, pick up that microphone and tell me. 00:17:57.80\00:17:59.23 How are they described? 00:17:59.43\00:18:00.84 Go ahead and pick that microphone up. It's all right. 00:18:01.04\00:18:03.17 Follow His commandments and follow Jesus. 00:18:03.38\00:18:07.69 That's right. So the people that Satan is angry with 00:18:07.89\00:18:12.55 are the people that are keeping the commandments of God 00:18:12.75\00:18:17.11 and those that have the testimony of Jesus Christ. 00:18:17.31\00:18:22.60 So at the end of time 00:18:22.80\00:18:25.50 does God expect His people to be keeping His commandments? 00:18:25.80\00:18:31.71 He does. 00:18:32.83\00:18:34.58 Does the devil get mad at people 00:18:34.88\00:18:37.37 that aren't keeping the commandments? 00:18:37.47\00:18:39.52 Does the devil get mad at people that are not 00:18:41.47\00:18:44.40 keeping the commandments? 00:18:44.60\00:18:46.16 No he doesn't. 00:18:46.46\00:18:47.97 The devil likes it, doesn't he? 00:18:48.18\00:18:49.76 Because you remember any interpretation of scripture 00:18:49.96\00:18:53.38 that seeks to do away with God's law is a product of who? 00:18:53.58\00:18:58.66 The antichrist. 00:18:58.86\00:19:00.74 You've always got to keep that in the random access memory 00:19:00.94\00:19:03.28 of your brain because any interpretation of scripture 00:19:03.48\00:19:06.86 that seeks to do away with God's law 00:19:07.06\00:19:09.28 pleases antichrist. 00:19:09.48\00:19:11.64 And if we please antichrist we're not pleasing Jesus Christ. 00:19:11.84\00:19:15.32 That's right. 00:19:15.52\00:19:16.54 So, now you see there on your screen 00:19:16.74\00:19:19.31 that there's another reference that we can use here. 00:19:19.51\00:19:22.25 And it's in parentheses so we're going to look at it: 00:19:22.35\00:19:24.65 Revelation chapter 14 and verse 12. 00:19:24.85\00:19:28.40 Revelation chapter 14 and verse 12. 00:19:28.60\00:19:32.34 So some of you may have to turn a page; 00:19:32.54\00:19:34.13 some of you may not. 00:19:34.33\00:19:35.78 And we will go ahead and we will let Mike Mudd read this 00:19:35.98\00:19:38.53 if you don't mind. Revelation the 14th chapter. 00:19:38.73\00:19:41.46 Those of you at home, if you haven't gotten your Bible yet 00:19:41.66\00:19:43.52 you recognize now that you have a need of getting your Bible, 00:19:43.72\00:19:46.25 so go grab that. Revelation the 14th chapter 00:19:46.35\00:19:49.59 and the 12th verse. Mike: 00:19:49.80\00:19:52.22 "Here is the patience of the saints. 00:19:52.42\00:19:54.74 Here are they that keep the commandments of God 00:19:54.94\00:19:57.05 and have the faith of Jesus. " 00:19:57.25\00:19:59.04 So here's the patience of who? 00:19:59.24\00:20:01.18 The saints. And then it defines a saint. 00:20:01.38\00:20:04.99 This is the Biblical definition of a saint. 00:20:05.19\00:20:06.98 The Bible says that a saint is someone that does two things. 00:20:07.48\00:20:10.71 And what were those things, Mike? 00:20:10.74\00:20:11.99 They keep the commandments of God 00:20:12.10\00:20:13.51 and they have the faith of Jesus. 00:20:13.61\00:20:15.10 They keep the commandments of God 00:20:15.30\00:20:17.35 and they have the faith of Jesus. 00:20:17.55\00:20:20.08 So again, simply ask the person 00:20:20.39\00:20:23.19 that you're giving the Bible study to... simply ask them: 00:20:23.29\00:20:25.60 Is the keeping of the commandments of God important 00:20:25.80\00:20:29.42 to God's last day or God's end-time people? 00:20:29.62\00:20:33.29 It's important, isn't it? 00:20:33.59\00:20:35.57 Because that is the distinguishing aspect 00:20:35.77\00:20:39.49 between God's people and then the people that want to 00:20:39.69\00:20:43.47 change God's law. 00:20:43.57\00:20:45.61 You know, some people say: "God is much too gracious; 00:20:45.81\00:20:48.32 He is much too merciful 00:20:48.42\00:20:50.22 to make me keep His law. " 00:20:50.62\00:20:54.69 But you will remember in John chapter 14 verse 15 00:20:55.00\00:20:59.28 Jesus didn't say: "Keep My law because I'm making you keep it" 00:20:59.48\00:21:02.14 did He? He said: "If you love Me, 00:21:02.34\00:21:05.78 keep My commandments. " 00:21:05.98\00:21:08.84 So the question is not about "Do I have to do it? " 00:21:09.14\00:21:11.79 The question is: "How much do I love Jesus? " 00:21:12.19\00:21:15.59 And if I love Jesus with all of my heart, 00:21:15.79\00:21:18.29 then all of my heart is going to want to keep ALL 00:21:18.49\00:21:21.24 of His what? Of His commandments. 00:21:21.44\00:21:23.62 Now in our introduction we used a reference 00:21:23.82\00:21:27.77 Matthew chapter 5 verses 17 and 18. 00:21:27.97\00:21:30.66 We're going to go back to that reference in our Bible study 00:21:30.76\00:21:33.87 because that is the springboard that we are going to use 00:21:33.97\00:21:36.80 to launch into the Ten Commandments. 00:21:37.00\00:21:40.45 Now the purpose of this Bible study is simply to show 00:21:41.44\00:21:45.41 that God's law is still valid today 00:21:45.51\00:21:47.95 and the keeping of God's law is a response of love 00:21:48.15\00:21:51.65 from the one that loves God. 00:21:51.85\00:21:53.56 So the purpose of this study is not to focus on 00:21:53.76\00:21:56.96 any one of the commandments. 00:21:57.06\00:21:58.58 In this Bible study you are not focusing on 00:21:58.78\00:22:00.90 just the first commandment. 00:22:01.00\00:22:02.36 You're not focusing on just the third commandment. 00:22:02.56\00:22:04.62 You're not focusing just on the 7th commandment 00:22:04.82\00:22:06.78 or the 4th commandment or the 3rd commandment. 00:22:06.98\00:22:09.09 You're focusing on all of them. 00:22:09.29\00:22:11.87 You're laying a foundation for the study that comes after this. 00:22:12.07\00:22:17.47 And the study that comes after this one is a Bible study 00:22:17.67\00:22:20.53 on the Sabbath. 00:22:20.73\00:22:22.41 So what you have to do - for those of you that are giving 00:22:22.62\00:22:24.84 Bible studies and using these studies - you... you give this 00:22:25.04\00:22:28.22 Bible study on week 7. This is the 7th Bible study 00:22:28.32\00:22:32.27 in this series. 00:22:32.47\00:22:34.31 And then you wait a week and then in the 8th week... 00:22:34.51\00:22:37.91 at the 8th study is when you bring in the topic 00:22:38.01\00:22:41.04 of the Sabbath. Today when you're giving this study 00:22:41.14\00:22:44.66 on week seven, you're not singling out any one of the 00:22:44.69\00:22:48.23 commandments. 00:22:48.33\00:22:49.53 For those of you that love the Sabbath of God, 00:22:49.73\00:22:52.40 for those of you that love the 4th commandment, 00:22:52.51\00:22:54.25 our temptation is going to be 00:22:54.45\00:22:57.41 just to hammer home the Sabbath 00:22:57.61\00:22:59.71 during this Bible study. 00:22:59.91\00:23:01.21 But that is not the goal of this Bible study 00:23:01.41\00:23:03.78 because the other commandments are just as important, 00:23:03.98\00:23:07.35 aren't they? 00:23:07.55\00:23:08.71 They sure are! 00:23:08.91\00:23:10.25 The Bible says if we break one we have broken them all... 00:23:10.35\00:23:13.19 and that's in James chapter 2. 00:23:13.29\00:23:14.94 So this reference here in Matthew chapter 5: 00:23:16.00\00:23:19.65 we'll go ahead and let Mrs. Gloria read that for us. 00:23:19.85\00:23:22.18 Matthew chapter 5 verses 17 and 18. 00:23:22.38\00:23:27.12 We are using this reference again just as a springboard 00:23:27.32\00:23:31.74 into the commandments. And I'll show you exactly why 00:23:31.94\00:23:34.77 after we read it. So, Mrs. Gloria, 00:23:34.97\00:23:36.94 Matthew chapter 5 verses 17 and 18. 00:23:37.14\00:23:39.35 "Do not think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. 00:23:39.65\00:23:44.66 I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 00:23:44.86\00:23:47.99 For assuredly I say to you: 00:23:48.19\00:23:50.85 Till heaven and earth pass away 00:23:51.05\00:23:54.30 one jot or one tittle 00:23:54.50\00:23:57.61 will by no means pass from the law 00:23:57.81\00:24:00.91 till all is fulfilled. " 00:24:01.11\00:24:04.07 So Mrs. Gloria, I've been studying with people 00:24:04.37\00:24:07.11 and people will tell me... 00:24:07.32\00:24:08.59 You want to hold that microphone there 'cause 00:24:08.80\00:24:09.82 I'm going to have you read one more reference. 00:24:09.93\00:24:11.50 People will tell me that that word right there 00:24:11.70\00:24:14.25 fulfilled means that Jesus fulfilled it; 00:24:14.45\00:24:18.03 therefore, I don't have to live in regard to the law. 00:24:18.23\00:24:21.89 So basically what they're saying is: 00:24:23.17\00:24:25.03 Jesus fulfilled the law. Jesus did away with it 00:24:25.23\00:24:28.04 so that I wouldn't have to live in reference to the law 00:24:28.25\00:24:30.83 or so I wouldn't have to keep God's law. 00:24:31.03\00:24:33.91 If that word fulfill... Mrs. Gloria, if that word 00:24:34.11\00:24:37.62 fulfill means to do away with, 00:24:37.72\00:24:39.96 then we've got some real concerns. 00:24:41.65\00:24:43.46 Turn very quickly to Matthew the third chapter. 00:24:43.66\00:24:47.14 This is not in your notes. This is just extra. 00:24:47.34\00:24:50.57 Extra stuff here. So Matthew chapter 3 00:24:50.77\00:24:53.67 and verse 15. 00:24:53.87\00:24:56.00 Matthew chapter 3 verse 15. 00:24:56.20\00:24:58.66 So Mrs. Gloria if you'll go ahead and read that for us. 00:24:58.86\00:25:00.81 I want you to notice the use of the word fulfilled. 00:25:01.01\00:25:04.08 If fulfilled means to do away with, 00:25:04.28\00:25:08.03 then listen to what it would mean here. 00:25:08.23\00:25:10.58 "But Jesus answered and said to him: 00:25:11.94\00:25:14.98 'permit it to be so now 00:25:15.28\00:25:18.12 for thus it is fitting for us 00:25:18.33\00:25:20.73 to fulfill all righteousness. ' " 00:25:20.77\00:25:23.06 So if that word fulfill means to do away with, 00:25:23.26\00:25:26.24 then that means that Jesus there in that reference 00:25:26.54\00:25:29.84 came to do away with all righteousness. 00:25:30.04\00:25:32.02 So certainly that's not what the word fulfill means, is it? 00:25:33.46\00:25:37.91 It can't mean that. So you may in the margin of 00:25:38.11\00:25:41.54 your Bible in Matthew chapter 5 verses 17 and 18 00:25:41.64\00:25:44.82 you may want to circle or underline the word fulfill 00:25:45.02\00:25:48.27 and then just put a little reference there 00:25:48.47\00:25:51.12 to go to Matthew chapter 3 verse 15. 00:25:51.32\00:25:54.56 That way when you're giving a study... 00:25:54.76\00:25:57.39 even those of you at home, when you're giving this study 00:25:57.59\00:25:59.60 to your co-workers, to your friends, to your family... 00:25:59.80\00:26:02.51 when they say: "Well it says right there Jesus fulfilled 00:26:02.71\00:26:05.27 the law so it's done away with, " 00:26:05.37\00:26:07.77 you can go to Matthew chapter 3 and show 00:26:07.97\00:26:10.37 that Jesus did not do away with the law 00:26:10.67\00:26:13.63 by fulfilling the law. 00:26:13.83\00:26:15.50 He certainly fulfilled it. He filled it so full of meaning 00:26:15.70\00:26:19.66 that He said: "I tell you the truth. 00:26:19.87\00:26:23.22 The law says thou shalt not commit adultery 00:26:23.43\00:26:26.34 but if any of you looks lustfully upon a woman 00:26:26.54\00:26:29.82 you have committed adultery in your heart. " 00:26:30.02\00:26:31.98 So Jesus fulfilled it. He filled it full of more meaning 00:26:32.18\00:26:36.64 than they ever thought the law had. 00:26:36.74\00:26:39.57 And so the Bible says there in Matthew chapter 5 00:26:40.83\00:26:44.00 17 and 18 that Jesus came to fulfill the law. 00:26:44.21\00:26:48.98 And then it says: "I tell you the truth: 00:26:49.18\00:26:50.94 not one jot or tittle will pass from the law 00:26:51.14\00:26:53.96 until all is fulfilled. " 00:26:54.16\00:26:55.74 As long as there is an earth, 00:26:55.94\00:26:57.98 as long as there is heaven or a place to breathe, 00:26:58.18\00:27:01.93 God's law will be valid. 00:27:02.13\00:27:05.13 Do you see that principle there? 00:27:05.23\00:27:06.82 Because we're going to use this principle... 00:27:07.02\00:27:10.02 this principle... to springboard into the commandments. 00:27:10.22\00:27:15.39 And so what I do... Again, let me just stress this again. 00:27:15.59\00:27:18.78 The purpose of this study is not to focus on any one 00:27:19.08\00:27:23.93 of the commandments. 00:27:24.13\00:27:25.75 The purpose of this study is to lay the foundation 00:27:25.95\00:27:29.02 for the following study which is a Bible study 00:27:29.12\00:27:31.73 on the Sabbath. 00:27:31.93\00:27:33.21 So when we go to the commandments it is probably 00:27:33.51\00:27:36.50 one of the hardest things - you know. I gave this Bible study to 00:27:36.60\00:27:39.35 Ronnie and Alex a couple of weeks ago. 00:27:39.55\00:27:42.28 And it's the hardest thing when you're giving this study 00:27:42.48\00:27:44.60 not to just launch into the next Bible study 00:27:44.80\00:27:47.44 which is on the Sabbath. 00:27:47.64\00:27:48.69 Because you get to the first commandment 00:27:48.89\00:27:50.76 and people like "yeah. " You get to the third commandment 00:27:50.86\00:27:52.70 "yeah. " You get to the fourth commandment "yeah. " 00:27:52.73\00:27:54.49 And then you just want to say: "But why aren't you doing it? " 00:27:54.69\00:27:57.54 But you can't do that during this study. 00:27:57.74\00:27:59.94 You need that week of time for the Spirit of God 00:28:00.14\00:28:02.89 to take this Bible study and the truth that is in this 00:28:03.09\00:28:06.36 and to just bury it in their hearts to get that seed 00:28:06.56\00:28:10.17 firmly planted so that it can grow 00:28:10.37\00:28:12.98 into a plant that will produce fruit in righteousness. 00:28:13.18\00:28:16.96 So we're going now to the Ten Commandments. 00:28:17.26\00:28:21.19 We're going to go to our fourteenth... 00:28:21.29\00:28:23.10 we're going to go to our 14th reference in this Bible study 00:28:23.30\00:28:27.65 and that's going to be the Ten Commandments. 00:28:27.85\00:28:29.94 Exodus chapter 20. We'll begin reading in verse 1 00:28:30.14\00:28:33.74 and we're going to let Bill read this. 00:28:33.84\00:28:35.69 Let's go to Exodus - Genesis, Exodus - chapter 20 00:28:35.89\00:28:40.08 and verse 1. 00:28:40.28\00:28:42.29 Now Bill, when I give this Bible study 00:28:42.49\00:28:44.35 I allow the people that I'm giving the Bible study to... 00:28:44.55\00:28:47.61 I allow them to read it to me 00:28:47.71\00:28:49.60 and then I stop them at the end of each one 00:28:49.80\00:28:51.99 of those commandments and I ask a question. 00:28:52.10\00:28:53.92 And remember, the basis - the springboard - for taking us 00:28:54.12\00:28:57.83 to the commandments was that Jesus said 00:28:57.93\00:28:59.73 that until heaven and earth pass not one jot or tittle 00:28:59.93\00:29:03.27 will pass from the law until all is fulfilled. 00:29:03.37\00:29:05.92 And so we still have an earth, don't we? 00:29:06.12\00:29:08.05 We still have heaven because we're breathing, don't we? 00:29:08.25\00:29:10.23 And so I'm just going to ask... I'm going to ask this question, 00:29:10.43\00:29:13.10 and it will get redundant but it will prove the very basic point 00:29:13.30\00:29:17.80 that God's law is still valid. 00:29:17.90\00:29:19.24 And this is the question that I ask: 00:29:19.44\00:29:21.40 According to the words of Jesus 00:29:22.57\00:29:24.97 is this part of His law still valid today? 00:29:25.17\00:29:28.05 That's the question: According to the words of Jesus 00:29:28.35\00:29:31.03 is this part of His law still valid today? 00:29:31.23\00:29:34.50 And so why don't you read the first commandment for us. 00:29:34.70\00:29:37.48 You will read verses 1, 2, and 3. 00:29:37.68\00:29:41.24 "And God spoke all these words saying: 00:29:41.44\00:29:43.99 'I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land 00:29:44.19\00:29:46.68 of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 00:29:46.78\00:29:49.02 You shall have no other gods before Me. ' " 00:29:49.22\00:29:51.85 OK. So stop right there. 00:29:52.05\00:29:53.28 According to the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:17 and 18 00:29:53.58\00:29:57.99 does Jesus still consider this part of His law 00:29:58.02\00:30:01.94 to be valid today? 00:30:02.14\00:30:03.58 Yes. Yes He does. 00:30:03.78\00:30:05.24 OK... next commandment. 00:30:05.44\00:30:06.98 "You shall not make yourself a carved image 00:30:07.18\00:30:10.46 any likeness of anything that is in heaven above 00:30:10.66\00:30:12.92 or that is in the earth beneath 00:30:13.12\00:30:16.26 or that is in the water under the earth. 00:30:16.46\00:30:18.61 You shall not bow down to them nor serve them 00:30:18.81\00:30:21.76 for I the Lord your God am a jealous God 00:30:21.96\00:30:24.91 visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children 00:30:25.11\00:30:27.55 to the third and the fourth generations 00:30:27.75\00:30:30.86 of those who hate Me 00:30:30.96\00:30:32.30 and showing mercy to thousands of those who love Me 00:30:32.50\00:30:34.85 and keep My commandments. " OK. 00:30:34.95\00:30:36.80 So then again I just ask the simple question: 00:30:37.00\00:30:39.62 this is the second commandment in the ten. 00:30:39.83\00:30:42.52 According to the words of Jesus 00:30:42.72\00:30:45.18 does Jesus still consider this part of His law valid today? 00:30:45.38\00:30:50.58 Yes He does. 00:30:50.88\00:30:53.03 Now I want you to notice something Bill. 00:30:53.23\00:30:55.01 At the very end there in verse 6 of the second commandment 00:30:55.21\00:30:57.82 it says: "and showing mercy unto thousands of them" that what? 00:30:58.02\00:31:01.41 "Love Me and keep My commandments. " 00:31:01.61\00:31:04.09 "Keep My commandments. " So the keeping of the 00:31:04.19\00:31:05.34 commandments comes after you and I love God, doesn't it? 00:31:05.44\00:31:09.87 So again, the keeping of the commandments is not 00:31:10.07\00:31:11.97 in order to be saved. The keeping of the commandments 00:31:12.07\00:31:15.13 is because you ARE saved. 00:31:15.33\00:31:17.22 If Jesus saves you... that's what gives you the motivation 00:31:17.42\00:31:21.36 and the love motivation to keep God's law. 00:31:21.56\00:31:24.78 So let's go to the third commandment. 00:31:24.98\00:31:26.78 That's verse seven, Bill. 00:31:26.98\00:31:28.85 "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain 00:31:29.05\00:31:32.00 for the Lord God will not hold him guiltless 00:31:32.21\00:31:34.59 who takes His name in vain. " 00:31:34.79\00:31:36.41 So according to the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:17 and 18 00:31:36.61\00:31:40.86 does Jesus still consider this part of His law valid today? 00:31:41.06\00:31:45.86 Yes He does. 00:31:46.26\00:31:47.86 All right, let's go to the fourth commandment. 00:31:48.06\00:31:50.18 So you read verses 8 through to 11. 00:31:50.38\00:31:53.03 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:31:53.23\00:31:55.69 Six days you shall labor and do all your work 00:31:55.89\00:31:58.52 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. 00:31:58.72\00:32:01.30 In it you shall do no work. 00:32:01.50\00:32:03.47 You nor your son nor your daughter 00:32:03.67\00:32:06.31 nor your male servant nor your female servant 00:32:06.51\00:32:08.85 nor your cattle nor your stranger who is within 00:32:09.05\00:32:11.42 your gates. For in six days the Lord made 00:32:11.52\00:32:15.08 the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them 00:32:15.19\00:32:18.06 and rested the seventh day. 00:32:18.26\00:32:19.99 Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath and hallowed it. " 00:32:20.02\00:32:23.46 According to the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:17 and 18 00:32:23.66\00:32:28.75 is this part of God's law still valid today? 00:32:28.95\00:32:33.42 Yes. It is. Absolutely. 00:32:33.62\00:32:35.78 So let's go to the fifth commandment. 00:32:35.98\00:32:38.34 Verse 12, right? OK, go ahead. 00:32:38.54\00:32:41.51 "Honor your father and your mother 00:32:41.72\00:32:43.47 that your days may be long upon the land which 00:32:43.67\00:32:45.91 the Lord your God has given you. " 00:32:46.01\00:32:48.12 According to the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:17 and 18 00:32:48.32\00:32:53.06 is this part of God's law still valid today? 00:32:53.26\00:32:57.74 Yes. Now friend, understand when you're giving this study 00:32:57.94\00:33:01.67 you're going to want to stop on the fourth 00:33:01.87\00:33:03.67 because it's special to you. Don't stop on the fourth. 00:33:03.87\00:33:06.54 You just keep on going 00:33:06.74\00:33:08.91 and you let the Spirit of God work on those individuals' 00:33:09.11\00:33:12.01 hearts for the next seven days until you come back 00:33:12.12\00:33:15.62 to give them the next Bible study. 00:33:15.82\00:33:18.01 And then of course the topic is the Sabbath 00:33:18.21\00:33:20.20 and you're going to be focusing on that. 00:33:20.40\00:33:21.87 But the purpose of this study is just simply to show that 00:33:22.07\00:33:24.78 every one of the commandments God still expects us 00:33:24.88\00:33:28.38 because we love Him 00:33:28.58\00:33:30.20 to keep them. So let's go to the next commandment. 00:33:30.40\00:33:33.62 This would be the sixth commandment. 00:33:33.73\00:33:35.95 "You shall not murder. " 00:33:36.15\00:33:37.95 According to the words of Jesus in Matthew chapter 5 00:33:39.16\00:33:42.68 verses 17 and 18, 00:33:42.89\00:33:44.88 is this commandment still valid today? 00:33:45.09\00:33:48.10 It is! Let's go to the next commandment. 00:33:48.40\00:33:50.98 "You shall not commit adultery. " 00:33:51.18\00:33:53.58 According to the words of Jesus 00:33:53.78\00:33:56.58 in Matthew chapter 5 verses 17 and 18 00:33:56.78\00:33:59.54 is this commandment still valid today? 00:33:59.75\00:34:02.93 So remember, what we are doing here is we are just 00:34:03.23\00:34:06.09 walking through the commandments. 00:34:06.19\00:34:07.84 We're not focusing on any specific commandment. 00:34:08.04\00:34:10.75 We're just walking through the commandments 00:34:10.95\00:34:13.04 and we are asking: "Does Jesus 00:34:13.14\00:34:15.03 consider this still valid 00:34:15.13\00:34:16.54 according to what He said in Matthew 5:17 and 18? " 00:34:16.64\00:34:18.98 And of course, what is that 00:34:19.18\00:34:20.64 Bible student going to have to say? 00:34:20.74\00:34:22.35 They're going to have to 00:34:22.55\00:34:24.19 say "yes. " Otherwise 00:34:24.29\00:34:25.61 they're going to call Jesus a... a liar. 00:34:25.81\00:34:28.06 So let's go to our next commandment. 00:34:28.26\00:34:30.36 Let's go to our next commandment there. 00:34:30.56\00:34:32.06 "Thou shalt not steal. " 00:34:32.26\00:34:33.84 According to the words of Jesus 00:34:34.04\00:34:36.63 does He consider this command- ment to still be valid today? 00:34:36.83\00:34:41.25 He does. All right. And our next commandment: 00:34:41.45\00:34:44.07 "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. " 00:34:44.27\00:34:46.90 What is... what is false witness? 00:34:47.10\00:34:48.79 Lying. Lying... that's right. "Thou shalt not lie. " 00:34:48.99\00:34:52.50 According to the words of Jesus in Matthew chapter 5 00:34:52.70\00:34:55.92 verses 17 and 18, does He still consider this to be valid today? 00:34:56.12\00:35:00.47 Yes. He does. And let's go to our last 00:35:00.67\00:35:03.06 or the 10th commandment. 00:35:03.16\00:35:04.40 "You shalt not covet your neighbor's house. 00:35:04.60\00:35:06.99 You shall not covet your neighbor's wife 00:35:07.19\00:35:09.50 nor his male servant nor his female servant 00:35:09.70\00:35:12.09 nor his ox nor his donkey 00:35:12.29\00:35:14.34 nor anything that is your neighbors. " 00:35:14.54\00:35:16.65 So according to the words of Jesus 00:35:16.85\00:35:19.31 does He consider this command- ment to still be valid today? 00:35:19.51\00:35:23.24 He does. As long as there is an earth and as long as there is 00:35:24.39\00:35:27.73 a place for us to breathe, as long as there is a heaven, 00:35:27.83\00:35:31.45 Jesus says "not one jot or one tittle will pass from My... 00:35:31.66\00:35:35.55 pass from My law till all be fulfilled. " 00:35:35.58\00:35:38.47 And did that word fulfill mean to do away with? 00:35:38.67\00:35:41.92 It didn't. So what we've seen so far 00:35:42.12\00:35:45.19 is that every aspect of God's law is still valid. 00:35:45.39\00:35:51.12 Now, the wisest man in the Old Testament 00:35:51.32\00:35:54.81 was called who? What was his name? 00:35:55.01\00:35:57.51 King Solomon. That's absolutely right. 00:35:57.71\00:36:00.07 He's the one that wrote the book of Ecclesiastes. 00:36:00.27\00:36:02.64 Our next reference you'll see there on the screen, 00:36:02.84\00:36:05.13 our 15th Law of God reference, 00:36:05.33\00:36:08.46 is Ecclesiastes chapter 12 and verse 13. 00:36:08.66\00:36:13.63 Ecclesiastes. So you have Psalms, Proverbs, 00:36:13.84\00:36:17.88 Ecclesiastes. 00:36:17.98\00:36:19.65 So right after the book of Psalms you have Proverbs 00:36:19.85\00:36:23.19 then you have Ecclesiastes chapter 12 and verse 13. 00:36:23.29\00:36:29.27 And we're going to let Jessica read this for us. 00:36:29.47\00:36:32.81 Ecclesiastes chapter 12 and verse 13. 00:36:33.01\00:36:37.95 "Here is my final conclusion: 00:36:39.50\00:36:42.03 fear God and obey His commandments 00:36:42.23\00:36:44.88 for this is the duty of every person. " 00:36:45.08\00:36:47.65 So, the wisest man on this... on the earth 00:36:48.72\00:36:52.44 save Jesus Christ, of course, 00:36:52.64\00:36:54.74 says here that the whole duty of man 00:36:54.94\00:36:59.51 is to do what? Keep His commandments. 00:36:59.71\00:37:04.42 Now remember... what is our motivation for keeping 00:37:04.62\00:37:08.18 the commandments of God? 00:37:08.38\00:37:10.13 Love. Now you must - when you give this Bible study - you 00:37:10.33\00:37:13.17 must keep that underlying principle there. 00:37:13.27\00:37:15.87 It was a principle that was listed in the commandment 00:37:16.07\00:37:18.69 itself. It's a principle that is listed in our hearts. 00:37:18.79\00:37:23.18 That's where the motivation comes: it comes out of a heart, 00:37:23.38\00:37:26.95 a heart's response of love to what Jesus has done for us. 00:37:27.15\00:37:31.02 And so what we're pulling out of this reference is 00:37:31.32\00:37:34.41 the simple fact that the wisest man on the planet 00:37:34.51\00:37:38.70 save Jesus Christ said: "Fear God and keep His commandments 00:37:38.90\00:37:43.30 for this is the whole duty of man. " 00:37:43.50\00:37:47.21 God expects us to put forth some effort to obey Him, 00:37:48.08\00:37:53.65 doesn't He? It doesn't just all of a sudden happen. 00:37:53.86\00:37:56.64 You and I may actually may even need to change our lifestyle. 00:37:56.65\00:38:00.79 You and I may need to change some of our habits. 00:38:00.99\00:38:04.06 In some cases God may even require us to change 00:38:04.46\00:38:08.40 our jobs in order to keep His commandments. 00:38:08.60\00:38:13.49 But we can never forget that Jesus said: 00:38:13.59\00:38:16.23 "I will never leave you nor forsake you. " 00:38:16.33\00:38:18.99 And you can look that up. It's in Hebrews chapter 13. 00:38:19.19\00:38:21.87 It's in the first... I think it's the 5th verse actually. 00:38:22.07\00:38:24.82 where Jesus said: "I will never leave you nor forsake you. " 00:38:25.02\00:38:29.07 And Mike's going to check that for me, and then we'll... 00:38:29.27\00:38:31.72 we'll make sure whether that's right or wrong. 00:38:31.92\00:38:33.72 So what we're going to do now is we're going to go 00:38:33.92\00:38:36.12 to the New Testament. In our next reference - our 00:38:36.22\00:38:38.95 16th reference - we're going to go to the New Testament book 00:38:39.05\00:38:41.99 of I John. I John chapter 5. 00:38:42.19\00:38:45.52 So not Saint John but I John. 00:38:45.72\00:38:47.81 We're going to go to I John chapter 5. 00:38:48.01\00:38:50.73 So you find the book of Revelation and just back up 00:38:51.13\00:38:54.08 a couple of books and then you're right there. 00:38:54.18\00:38:56.21 That's what I did: I went to Revelation 00:38:56.31\00:38:58.36 and then I backed up to the left. We're in I John 00:38:58.56\00:39:02.11 chapter 5 verses 2 and 3. 00:39:02.31\00:39:05.58 And we are going to let Danielle read that. 00:39:05.78\00:39:07.69 I John chapter 5 verses 2 and 3. 00:39:07.79\00:39:11.81 "By this we know that we love the children of God 00:39:12.02\00:39:15.50 when we love God and keep His commandments. 00:39:15.70\00:39:17.97 For this is the love of God: that we keep His commandments. 00:39:18.17\00:39:21.24 And His commandments are not grievous. " 00:39:21.44\00:39:24.22 So notice there in verse 2 when you're giving this study 00:39:24.42\00:39:27.25 you want to pull out the references. 00:39:27.45\00:39:29.26 Was I right about that... that text? 00:39:29.36\00:39:31.31 13 verse 5... Hebrews 13 verse 5. 00:39:31.51\00:39:34.26 Praise the Lord! We had it right. 00:39:34.46\00:39:35.47 So I John chapter 5 verse 2 says: "By this we know 00:39:35.68\00:39:39.76 that we love the children of God. " 00:39:39.86\00:39:42.80 So what is the only way according to this verse 00:39:43.01\00:39:46.02 that you and I can show true love to God's children? 00:39:46.12\00:39:49.81 What does it say there? Somebody was starting to say it. 00:39:50.11\00:39:53.17 When we love God 00:39:54.37\00:39:57.12 and keep His commandments. 00:39:57.32\00:40:00.82 So what comes first? 00:40:01.02\00:40:02.14 Loving God comes first. That is the motivation 00:40:02.44\00:40:06.73 for keeping God's commandments. Then it says 00:40:06.83\00:40:09.76 "For this IS the love of God. " 00:40:09.96\00:40:12.08 This is how we show God that we love Him: 00:40:12.28\00:40:15.35 when... that we keep His commandments 00:40:15.55\00:40:18.64 and His commandment are not grievous. 00:40:18.84\00:40:21.44 It all has to be with our motivation, doesn't it? 00:40:23.33\00:40:25.85 If we feel like we're forced to do something, 00:40:26.05\00:40:28.42 do we ever want to do it? 00:40:28.52\00:40:29.85 When you think about it growing up your folks said 00:40:30.05\00:40:32.05 "Go clean your room or you can't go play. " 00:40:32.25\00:40:34.21 We're like: "Oh, I don't like cleaning my room. " 00:40:34.41\00:40:36.57 We are forced to do it, but what made us go do it? 00:40:36.60\00:40:39.72 Our motivation for playing, wasn't it? 00:40:41.15\00:40:43.05 We wanted to go, so our parents used that internal 00:40:43.25\00:40:46.45 self-motivating aspect to get us to do things. 00:40:46.55\00:40:49.21 And God says: "Listen, you love Me; keep My commandments. " 00:40:49.41\00:40:52.42 That's exactly what Jesus says in our next reference. 00:40:52.56\00:40:54.89 Notice on your screen we're going to John chapter 14 00:40:55.09\00:40:58.61 and verse 15. So John 14 verse 15. 00:40:58.81\00:41:03.42 Tom, we will let you read this. 00:41:03.62\00:41:05.56 John chapter 14 and verse 15. 00:41:05.76\00:41:11.10 So if you'll just read that for us. Everybody's there. OK. 00:41:11.30\00:41:15.18 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. " 00:41:15.38\00:41:17.91 So what does... What color are the words there in your Bible 00:41:18.11\00:41:21.70 in John 14. They're red. They're red! 00:41:21.84\00:41:23.34 And so Jesus Himself said: "If you love Me, 00:41:23.54\00:41:27.45 keep" what? "My commandments. " 00:41:27.55\00:41:29.61 It's interesting... He calls them My commandments. 00:41:29.71\00:41:32.42 That's interesting, isn't it? 00:41:32.62\00:41:33.89 Whose commandments are they? Jesus' commandments. 00:41:34.09\00:41:38.16 Jesus said: "If you love Me, keep My commandments. " 00:41:38.56\00:41:42.22 He told us that His commandments in John chapter 5 00:41:42.53\00:41:45.40 were not grievous. 00:41:45.60\00:41:47.57 That that is how we showed others that we love Him 00:41:47.77\00:41:50.70 or them and that's how we show God that we love Him... 00:41:50.90\00:41:54.15 by keeping His commandments. 00:41:54.35\00:41:57.77 So you're giving this Bible study for the purpose 00:41:57.97\00:42:02.09 of people understanding that God 00:42:02.29\00:42:06.02 wants us to keep His commandments 00:42:06.22\00:42:08.69 not because we have to but because we love Him. 00:42:08.79\00:42:14.14 Does that make sense? 00:42:14.34\00:42:16.16 So now the appeal here. Jesus said: "If you love Me, 00:42:16.36\00:42:20.27 keep My commandments. " My question of Roberto 00:42:20.47\00:42:22.99 is how much do you love Jesus? 00:42:23.19\00:42:26.62 How much? Is it... Is it your desire 00:42:28.40\00:42:31.32 to love Jesus with all of your heart? Yes. 00:42:31.53\00:42:34.14 Is that your desire? Jesus said: "If you love Me, 00:42:34.34\00:42:37.81 keep My commandments. " 00:42:38.11\00:42:42.25 So how much, my friend, do you love Jesus? 00:42:42.45\00:42:47.43 What is your motivation for keeping the commandments of God? 00:42:47.83\00:42:53.05 Love. Praise the Lord. 00:42:55.45\00:42:57.58 And then I pray with them. 00:42:57.89\00:43:00.65 Now you, you... again... I'm just going to reiterate this: 00:43:00.85\00:43:04.71 you don't focus on any one of the commandments 00:43:04.91\00:43:07.76 during this study. 00:43:07.96\00:43:09.50 The purpose is to introduce people that have never heard 00:43:09.70\00:43:12.14 of the law of God to the law of God. 00:43:12.24\00:43:14.56 It is also to introduce people that have understood God's law 00:43:14.96\00:43:18.28 to be different than what it shows in the Bible 00:43:18.48\00:43:20.52 the REAL law of God. 00:43:20.72\00:43:22.83 And it's also used just to lay that foundation 00:43:23.23\00:43:26.43 for the study that is going to come next. 00:43:26.63\00:43:29.40 Do you feel that this study was clear? 00:43:29.60\00:43:31.28 Sure. Jesus gives us grace 00:43:31.48\00:43:35.22 to overcome sin which is the transgression of the law. 00:43:35.42\00:43:40.14 Very simple. Do away with the law then you do away with Jesus 00:43:40.34\00:43:43.54 because you don't have sin you don't need grace to overcome it 00:43:43.74\00:43:46.68 so you don't need the One that gives us grace. 00:43:46.88\00:43:50.06 So what we are going to do here: 00:43:50.47\00:43:52.55 we've just done a little quick review. 00:43:52.76\00:43:54.51 We'll go to our next reference. 00:43:54.61\00:43:55.86 We have simple questions and simple answers. 00:43:56.06\00:43:59.25 Now you remember in the very beginning of this Bible study 00:43:59.46\00:44:02.99 we used this illustration. In Daniel 7:25 00:44:03.19\00:44:07.43 it said that the antichrist wants to change God's law. 00:44:07.53\00:44:12.17 In Matthew 5:17 and 18 Jesus said that there would be 00:44:12.37\00:44:15.71 no change in His law. You remember that illustration. 00:44:15.91\00:44:18.59 So then we said: 00:44:18.79\00:44:20.59 Any attempt to change God's eternal law 00:44:27.97\00:44:30.27 is a product of the antichrist. 00:44:30.41\00:44:32.24 And so what we are going to do is we are going to take 00:44:32.44\00:44:34.14 probably the most abused reference in scripture 00:44:34.34\00:44:38.22 and we are going to look at it. 00:44:38.52\00:44:40.99 You notice on your screen there the most... what I feel is 00:44:41.19\00:44:44.27 the most abused scripture in the Bible is Colossians chapter 2 00:44:44.47\00:44:48.36 verses 14 through 17. 00:44:48.56\00:44:51.99 So I'm going to grab my Bible here. Colossians chapter 2 00:44:52.19\00:44:54.80 verses 14 through 17, and I'll just read that for us. 00:44:55.00\00:44:58.35 So you're turning to Colossians. 00:44:58.56\00:45:00.37 It's after Corinthians and you have Galatians, 00:45:00.57\00:45:03.00 Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians chapter 2 00:45:03.20\00:45:07.86 beginning in verse 14. 00:45:08.06\00:45:11.54 And let's just read it. Colossians chapter 2 verse 14 00:45:11.74\00:45:14.76 says: "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances 00:45:14.86\00:45:18.79 that was against us 00:45:18.99\00:45:20.53 which was contrary to us 00:45:20.73\00:45:23.60 and took it out of the way 00:45:23.80\00:45:25.88 nailing it to His cross. 00:45:26.08\00:45:28.20 And having spoiled principalities and powers 00:45:28.40\00:45:31.54 He made a show of them openly 00:45:31.74\00:45:33.82 triumphing over them in it. 00:45:34.02\00:45:36.72 Let no man therefore judge you in meat 00:45:36.92\00:45:40.26 or in drink or in respect of an holy day 00:45:40.46\00:45:44.25 or of the new moon or of the Sabbath days 00:45:44.45\00:45:48.42 which are a shadow of things to come 00:45:48.82\00:45:53.26 but the body is of Christ. " 00:45:53.47\00:45:56.37 Over and over again I hear evangelical ministers 00:45:56.58\00:46:00.79 even pastors say that this... this reference 00:46:00.99\00:46:04.65 here is what did away with God's law. 00:46:04.85\00:46:07.39 But go back to your... go back to your screen. 00:46:07.59\00:46:09.81 If we put Colossians chapter 2 verses 14 through 17 00:46:10.01\00:46:13.61 where God's... to teach that God's law has been changed, 00:46:13.81\00:46:17.44 then that is a product of who? 00:46:17.64\00:46:19.84 Antichrist. So are you and I comfortable 00:46:20.04\00:46:23.25 with Colossians 2:14-17 landing over here under the 00:46:23.45\00:46:26.56 antichrist that wants to change God's law? 00:46:26.66\00:46:28.83 We're not. So this Colossians 2:14-17 00:46:29.03\00:46:32.18 must be understood in light of what Jesus said in 00:46:32.38\00:46:37.19 Matthew chapter 5 verses 17 and 18: 00:46:37.29\00:46:39.41 That "until heaven and earth pass not one jot or tittle 00:46:39.61\00:46:42.84 will pass from My law until all be fulfilled. " 00:46:42.94\00:46:45.28 And we learned that the word fulfilled did not mean 00:46:45.51\00:46:48.43 to do away with. So, let's just look at our next slide here. 00:46:48.63\00:46:54.12 What then was nailed to the cross? 00:46:54.32\00:46:57.45 What is it that was nailed to the cross? 00:46:57.65\00:47:00.52 And I'll probably just end up reading all of these here. 00:47:00.62\00:47:02.79 What was it that was nailed to the cross? 00:47:02.99\00:47:05.39 You remember on the graphic there it says 00:47:05.49\00:47:07.93 Colossians 2:14-17. 00:47:08.13\00:47:09.88 Verse 14: "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances. " 00:47:10.08\00:47:13.75 We're just going to take Colossians 2:14-17 00:47:13.95\00:47:16.96 and we're going to break it down in pieces 00:47:17.06\00:47:18.81 so that we can understand what is Paul talking about 00:47:19.01\00:47:21.86 in his letter to the Colossians. 00:47:22.06\00:47:23.74 So let's go to Deuteronomy 31. 00:47:24.04\00:47:26.45 We're going to look at this "blotting out the handwriting 00:47:26.65\00:47:29.27 of ordinances. " 00:47:29.37\00:47:30.99 So you're going to the Old Testament. 00:47:31.19\00:47:33.77 Remember, it's very difficult to understand the New Testament 00:47:33.97\00:47:36.56 if we do not have the Old Testament. 00:47:36.76\00:47:39.50 So we're going to Deuteronomy chapter 31 00:47:39.70\00:47:42.64 and verse 9. Deuteronomy chapter 31 00:47:42.84\00:47:47.36 and verse 9. 00:47:47.56\00:47:49.54 It says, Deuteronomy 31:9: 00:47:49.75\00:47:52.46 "And Moses wrote this law 00:47:52.66\00:47:55.70 and delivered it unto the priests - the sons of Levi - 00:47:55.90\00:48:01.00 which bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord 00:48:01.20\00:48:03.50 and unto all the elders of Israel. " 00:48:03.71\00:48:06.49 Go to verse 24. 00:48:06.69\00:48:08.13 "And it came to pass when Moses had made an end 00:48:08.33\00:48:13.35 of writing the words of this law in a book 00:48:13.55\00:48:16.77 until they were finished... " 00:48:16.97\00:48:18.60 Let's ask this question: did Moses write a book 00:48:18.81\00:48:21.53 that had the law in it? That had a law in it? 00:48:21.74\00:48:24.49 He did. What do you suppose Moses wrote that with? 00:48:24.69\00:48:27.67 His hand. He definitely wrote it in ink, didn't he? 00:48:28.88\00:48:32.05 Or some type of writing instrument back then... 00:48:32.25\00:48:34.60 Then verse 25 says that Moses commanded the Israelites... 00:48:34.80\00:48:38.95 or the Levites which bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord 00:48:39.05\00:48:41.33 saying: "Take this book of the law 00:48:41.53\00:48:44.90 and put it in the side of the covenant... 00:48:45.10\00:48:49.69 of the Lord - of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God 00:48:49.99\00:48:53.62 that it may be there for a witness against thee. " 00:48:53.82\00:48:58.34 So go back to your graphic there. 00:48:58.54\00:49:01.01 The graphic said that: 00:49:01.21\00:49:02.59 It was there for a witness against who? 00:49:20.87\00:49:23.06 Against us. Now I want you to go back over there to Colossians 00:49:23.26\00:49:27.86 Colossians chapter 2, and you may have kept your finger there, 00:49:28.06\00:49:33.11 I didn't. It would be a good thing for us all to put some 00:49:33.32\00:49:35.68 type of marker there, so I'll do that in my Bible here. 00:49:35.88\00:49:39.13 It says in Colossians 2:14 00:49:40.03\00:49:42.20 "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances 00:49:42.40\00:49:46.05 that was against us which was contrary to us. " 00:49:46.25\00:49:51.13 According to Deuteronomy 31 00:49:51.43\00:49:54.25 was there something written in the law of Moses 00:49:54.45\00:49:59.21 that he wrote with his hand that was not inside the ark 00:49:59.41\00:50:03.66 itself but was on the side of the ark? 00:50:03.69\00:50:06.42 Was there something written there that was against us? 00:50:06.62\00:50:09.18 Absolutely. And so you can see very clearly 00:50:09.68\00:50:12.83 just from verse 14 here in Colossians 2 00:50:13.03\00:50:15.65 "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances 00:50:15.85\00:50:19.23 that was against us which was contrary to us. " 00:50:19.43\00:50:24.23 We can see quite clearly right there 00:50:24.43\00:50:26.55 that what was nailed to the cross was the ceremonial law 00:50:26.75\00:50:32.22 that was written by the hand of Moses. 00:50:32.42\00:50:36.28 Now let's go and let's look and... 00:50:36.48\00:50:38.29 I think our next slide is going to take us there... 00:50:38.59\00:50:41.20 Our next slide is going to take us to Exodus 31 00:50:41.60\00:50:46.23 and verse 18. Let's go to Exodus 31 verse 18. 00:50:46.43\00:50:50.57 We're still looking at this handwriting of ordinances. 00:50:50.77\00:50:53.68 So I'm going to keep my marker there in Colossians 00:50:53.88\00:50:56.74 but I'm going back to Exodus - Genesis, Exodus - 00:50:56.94\00:51:00.12 31 and verse 18. 00:51:00.32\00:51:05.41 Exodus 31 and verse 18. 00:51:05.62\00:51:08.25 The Bible says here... Exodus 31 verse 18: 00:51:08.65\00:51:13.80 "And He gave unto Moses 00:51:14.00\00:51:17.15 when He had made an end of communing with him 00:51:17.35\00:51:20.67 upon Mount Sinai two tables of testimony... " 00:51:20.77\00:51:24.50 Tables of what? "stone written with the 00:51:24.70\00:51:29.04 finger of God. " 00:51:29.14\00:51:31.89 Now Mike, you'll appreciate this because you have... 00:51:32.09\00:51:33.99 you have young children like I do. 00:51:34.19\00:51:35.77 And I told my kids one day in morning worship, 00:51:35.97\00:51:38.65 we always try to have morning worship... 00:51:38.75\00:51:39.88 we ALWAYS have morning worship before we come to school 00:51:39.98\00:51:42.08 so on and so forth. 00:51:42.28\00:51:43.50 And I said: "God wrote it with His finger. " 00:51:43.70\00:51:45.68 And my boy Brandon goes: 00:51:45.88\00:51:47.11 "How did He do that? Wouldn't that be cool to write on stone 00:51:49.78\00:51:52.74 with your finger. " 00:51:52.84\00:51:53.93 Can any human write on stone with their finger? 00:51:54.03\00:51:56.44 They can't. 00:51:56.64\00:51:58.35 Only God can write on something that will last for eternity. 00:51:58.55\00:52:03.71 And He doesn't even use His whole hand... 00:52:03.91\00:52:06.23 He just uses His finger. 00:52:06.33\00:52:08.96 The law that was nailed to the cross... 00:52:09.17\00:52:12.03 the law that was blotted out... 00:52:12.23\00:52:15.73 was the law of ordinances 00:52:15.93\00:52:19.10 that was against us which was contrary to us. 00:52:19.30\00:52:21.87 And that, according to Deuteronomy 31 and Exodus 31, 00:52:22.07\00:52:26.51 is the law that Moses wrote not the law that God wrote. 00:52:26.81\00:52:31.78 Does this make sense so far? 00:52:31.98\00:52:33.21 So again, we're just breaking down Colossians chapter 2. 00:52:33.41\00:52:36.96 Let's look now at Deuteronomy chapter 10 verses 1 through 5. 00:52:38.46\00:52:43.11 Deuteronomy chapter 10. So you have Genesis, 00:52:43.31\00:52:46.70 Exodus. You just keep turning to the right to 00:52:46.90\00:52:48.55 Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy 00:52:48.65\00:52:52.17 chapter 10 verses 1 through 5. 00:52:52.37\00:52:57.30 The Bible says here in Deuteronomy 10 verse 1: 00:52:59.64\00:53:03.29 "At that time the Lord said to me: 00:53:03.49\00:53:06.56 'Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first. ' " 00:53:06.77\00:53:10.97 You remember Moses broke the first two tables 00:53:11.17\00:53:13.70 when he came down from Mt. Sinai 00:53:13.90\00:53:15.67 and the children of Israel were worshiping a golden calf. 00:53:15.87\00:53:18.04 They broke the commandments... 00:53:18.24\00:53:19.63 he broke them by dropping them or throwing them down. 00:53:19.83\00:53:23.01 "And come up unto Me into the mount and make thee 00:53:23.21\00:53:27.13 and ark of wood. And I will write on the tables the words 00:53:27.33\00:53:32.53 that were in the first tables which thou brakest. 00:53:32.73\00:53:35.76 And thou shalt put them... " Where? 00:53:35.96\00:53:38.50 "In the ark. " Where was Moses' law put? 00:53:38.70\00:53:42.53 Beside or in the side of the ark. 00:53:42.73\00:53:46.52 So God's law - the Ten Commandments - is inside 00:53:46.72\00:53:49.41 underneath the mercy seat 00:53:49.61\00:53:50.91 showing that God's law is the foundation for God's government. 00:53:51.12\00:53:54.64 But Moses' law - the law of ordinances, the law that 00:53:54.84\00:53:59.06 contained instructions about meat and drink 00:53:59.16\00:54:02.01 and festivals, the new moon celebration 00:54:02.21\00:54:06.83 and the Sabbath days. You understand there 00:54:07.03\00:54:10.45 in Colossians chapter 2 that Sabbath days is plural. 00:54:10.65\00:54:13.88 In the commandments we just read 00:54:15.21\00:54:17.43 it said THE seventh day is THE Sabbath 00:54:17.63\00:54:22.36 of the Lord thy God 00:54:22.56\00:54:23.87 and so there's a differentiation there. 00:54:24.07\00:54:26.35 There were feast days in the Jewish cultural system 00:54:26.55\00:54:31.28 that were considered Sabbaths or days of rest. 00:54:31.48\00:54:34.84 And so there are these days in the Old Testament 00:54:35.04\00:54:39.60 and in the Jewish economy, the Jewish civilization, 00:54:39.80\00:54:43.87 where they kept other days than the seventh-day Sabbath 00:54:44.07\00:54:48.16 as a holy day. And so that's the Sabbath days 00:54:48.36\00:54:52.41 that are spoken of there. 00:54:52.61\00:54:53.85 So let's continue on here. 00:54:54.05\00:54:55.56 "And make... " verse 3... "And I made an ark of shittum 00:54:55.76\00:54:59.39 wood and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first 00:54:59.53\00:55:03.26 and went up into the mount having the two tables in my hand 00:55:03.46\00:55:07.37 and He" - speaking of God - "wrote on the tables 00:55:07.57\00:55:11.44 according to the first writing the Ten Commandments 00:55:11.64\00:55:14.57 which the Lord spake unto you in the mount 00:55:14.77\00:55:16.50 out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly 00:55:16.70\00:55:19.88 and the Lord gave them unto me. " 00:55:20.08\00:55:21.63 Verse 5: "And I turned myself and came down from the mount 00:55:21.83\00:55:25.51 and put the tables... " Where? 00:55:25.71\00:55:27.50 "in the ark which I had made and there they be 00:55:27.70\00:55:31.35 as the Lord commanded me. " 00:55:31.56\00:55:34.07 Let's go now back to our graphic there. 00:55:34.27\00:55:36.62 Moses wrote a law that was put 00:55:50.00\00:55:51.64 on the side of the ark. 00:55:51.84\00:55:53.73 God writes a law that is put 00:55:53.76\00:55:56.16 inside the ark. 00:55:56.26\00:55:58.41 Was there anything in God's law that was not for us? 00:55:58.61\00:56:02.49 That was not designed to protect us? 00:56:02.69\00:56:05.43 No. God's law was designed to be for us. 00:56:05.83\00:56:10.03 "If God be for us, who can be against us? " 00:56:10.23\00:56:14.33 So we follow God's law as an expression of our love for Him. 00:56:14.63\00:56:20.00 Now if you take the time, you can read in Leviticus 00:56:20.86\00:56:23.85 chapter 23 and you can actually see when you read 00:56:24.05\00:56:27.42 that whole chapter in Leviticus chapter 23 00:56:27.53\00:56:30.05 that there are several feast days in the Jewish economy 00:56:30.25\00:56:34.47 called Sabbaths. But then it differentiates those 00:56:34.67\00:56:38.97 beside the Sabbath of the Lord. 00:56:39.17\00:56:42.38 So very quickly I'm going to Leviticus 00:56:42.58\00:56:44.62 and I'll just point out the exact verse there. 00:56:44.82\00:56:47.76 Leviticus chapter 23... Leviticus chapter 23 00:56:48.90\00:56:53.78 and verse 38. 00:56:53.99\00:56:57.25 Notice Leviticus 23 verse 38 says: "Beside the Sabbaths 00:56:57.46\00:57:01.40 of the Lord. " 00:57:01.60\00:57:03.06 So you see that there is THE seventh-day Sabbath 00:57:03.36\00:57:07.39 and then there are other Sabbath days in the Jewish economy. 00:57:07.44\00:57:10.89 When Christ was nailed to the cross, all of those things 00:57:11.09\00:57:14.51 that were a shadow of the Christ that was to come 00:57:14.71\00:57:18.79 or of Jesus Christ, when Christ was hung on the cross 00:57:18.99\00:57:21.96 no longer did the sacrifices have any meaning. 00:57:22.16\00:57:25.19 No longer did the meat offerings, the drink offerings, 00:57:25.39\00:57:27.96 the feasts... none of that had any more meaning 00:57:28.16\00:57:30.90 because the true Lamb of God had been slain on the cross. 00:57:31.10\00:57:35.67 Now you, my friend, are able to give a study 00:57:35.87\00:57:40.24 on the law of God that would draw people to love Him 00:57:40.44\00:57:44.09 and obey Him. 00:57:44.29\00:57:46.04
