00:01 The harvest truly is plenteous,
00:03 but the laborers are few. Pray ye therefore to 00:05 the Lord of the harvest, that he will, 00:07 he will send forth laborers into 00:09 His harvest. Also I heard the voice 00:12 of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? 00:15 And who will go for us? Then said I, 00:19 Here am I, send me, send me. 00:23 Life On The Edge will enable you to be an 00:25 effective harvester for the Lord. 00:27 We now invite you into our 00:29 class room to come experience life. 00:43 We just like to praise the Lord that everyone 00:45 of you are able to tune in today maybe you're 00:47 joining us from home on a DVD player or 00:50 maybe you are joining us on the Internet but we 00:52 are very glad that you are here with us at 00:54 The Lay Instituted For Evangelism. 00:57 We're here in the classroom on the campus 00:59 of Pine Lake Retreat. We've been outside 01:01 and we've seen our pet alligator and we've had 01:04 our dinner and now we are ready to study 01:07 the word of God as a group and we are just 01:09 glad that you're able to join us. 01:11 I'd like to remind those of you that are at home 01:12 you will want to make sure that you 01:13 get your Bible. At some point in 01:16 the future you want to, as you tune into these 01:18 programs you want to get yourself a pen that has 01:21 lead in it or a pencil that has lead in it, 01:23 so that you can mark these studies in your 01:24 Bible and if you've missed one of those programs 01:28 where we've taught you how to mark 01:30 this in your Bible, then we encourage you 01:32 to make sure that you get on our website, 01:34 ComeExperienceLife.com, ComeExperienceLife.com 01:39 and you can download our handouts there, 01:41 you can preview some of the programs and we're 01:44 looking forward to in the future putting these on 01:46 iTunes as well. So you may by 01:48 the time you get this, go ahead and check out on 01:50 iTunes and see if you can find some of our 01:51 presentations there. Well this, 01:54 today Eleida Feliciano who is going to present 01:56 to us a Bible study on salvation. 02:00 A Bible study on salvation, 02:03 that sounds like very important 02:04 topic doesn't it? If, if you and I want 02:06 to be in kingdom of the God, 02:07 we must to be what? Saved and what a better 02:10 way to do that, well the only way 02:12 we can do that is through studying the Bible, 02:15 that's what the Bible says in First Peter 1:23. 02:18 But prior to doing that we're going to give 02:19 a little bit, some more tidbits 02:22 on how to study the Bible with other people, 02:25 and we're gonna talk on our first graphic here 02:27 about some Bible Study aids. 02:30 And the first Bible Study aid that you can 02:32 use is a chart. Let's suppose that 02:35 you're giving a Bible study to someone and 02:37 it's a Bible study on prophecy much like 02:40 Pastor Sizemore has presented to us about the 02:42 Anti-Christ and we come to the 02:44 1260 year prophecy. It's easier to 02:48 understand things, if they are in a picture. 02:51 Now let's notice what the scripture says, 02:53 on our next slide you will note that we're 02:55 going to turn to Habakkuk, 02:57 the second chapter and verse 2. 02:59 So I invite everybody here in the classroom 03:01 to go ahead and go there, Habakkuk and today I'm 03:04 using my Bible that my, my conversion Bible. 03:08 So, you see there my little marker here is a 03:09 little frayed, but we love this Bible, 03:12 so we keep the frayed marker instead of 03:14 cutting it out. So, we're here in Habakkuk, 03:16 the second chapter and we're going to 03:18 read verse 2, and I'll go ahead 03:21 and read that for us. Now, many of you at home 03:22 maybe saying to yourself, where in the world 03:25 is Habakkuk? So, what we're going to 03:27 do is we're going to teach you right now, 03:29 you want to open your Bible to the 03:31 very front cover, in the very front cover 03:34 of your Bible you will notice that there is a 03:36 table of contents, and that table of 03:39 contents in the front of your Bible is broken 03:41 up into two sections. Can anybody in 03:44 here tell me, well I'll just 03:45 ask you Mrs. Gloria, can you tell me what are 03:47 the two sections that our Bible is 03:49 broken up into? The New Testament and 03:53 the Old Testament. That's right, 03:54 the New Testament and the Old Testament, 03:56 so what we're gonna do is? 03:57 We're gonna look in the section that's labeled 03:59 Old Testament and we're going to find Habakkuk 04:03 it's near the end of the Old Testament list 04:05 and then you're going to look for that page 04:07 number and the amazing thing is now some 04:10 of you at home maybe thinking to yourself. 04:12 I am the only one that can't find this, 04:14 but here we are and there are people in this 04:15 classroom that are actually going to the 04:17 front of their Bibles and they're looking 04:19 for Habakkuk and now they're finding the first 04:21 page in the Book of Habakkuk. 04:22 And, so just like you we're learning to 04:25 study our Bibles, now when we're in 04:27 Habakkuk we give you just one more moment 04:30 to get there, I see some of 04:31 us are just there we've just never been there so 04:33 our pages are struck together. 04:35 Habakkuk isn't a book that we open 04:37 very often is it? Now notice what 04:39 God says here, Habakkuk chapter 2 04:41 and verse 2, he says, 04:44 and the Lord answered me and said, 04:47 write the vision. So what was he 04:50 supposed to do first? What is he 04:51 supposed to do? He supposed to 04:53 write the vision, that's right Solita, 04:55 and make it plain upon tables, 04:59 make it plain upon what? 05:02 Upon tables then it says that he may run 05:05 that readeth it. Now we're not scared 05:07 when somebody writes something, 05:09 nor when somebody draws something out on a chart, 05:11 but we can understand it much easier. 05:15 So the council from God when we're giving 05:16 Bible studies, if we have the 05:19 opportunity and we can write things out in a 05:22 chart it will be easier for those that we are 05:26 studying the Bible with to understand it. 05:28 Now one of the things that I like to do when 05:30 I give a Bible study is, I would like to write 05:32 handwritten notes, while I'm giving 05:35 that Bible study. Even, if it's not a chart 05:38 that's got lines and it looks like it's on graph 05:41 paper or something like that, 05:42 even if it's not that, if it's just the 05:45 references that I'm going to in a very small 05:47 little tidbit of information that 05:49 describes that verse. So when you're giving 05:52 a Bible study, if you'll, 05:53 if you'll write things out by hand, 05:54 even if it's not in a chart you write down 05:57 the reference and then you also write down 05:59 a little bit of information that 06:01 came from that verse. That way when you're 06:03 giving that Bible study all you have to do 06:05 is take your pencil and refer back up to a 06:08 text that you have already been to and 06:12 people will remember that idea a lot easier 06:13 simply because you have written it down. 06:15 So, charts would be the first way 06:18 that you could, or first aid you could 06:20 use to help someone understand the Bible 06:23 better while you're giving them the 06:25 Bible study. Now on our 06:27 slide right now, you see that the 06:29 next Bible Study aid is illustrations. 06:33 When I was growing up my brother Donald, 06:36 John, Mark and I we're in the backyard, 06:39 I lived in Montgomery, Alabama and the dirt 06:41 there is not dirt its red clay. 06:45 And my father just finished building a 06:47 huge addition on the back of the house, 06:49 so he had lots of little red bricks left over. 06:51 And so, Donald, John, Mark and I were just, 06:54 we were bored out of our minds it's a hot day 06:57 what in the world are you gonna do 06:58 in the city, on a hot day, 07:00 in the summer, well, if you have all of these 07:04 left over building materials you're 07:05 gonna build something. So we decided we were 07:08 going to build an igloo. Now none of us had ever 07:11 seen a real igloo other than in pictures. 07:13 So we, we dug this trench, 07:16 this circular trench in the, 07:18 in the mud, well it wasn't mud, 07:20 it was just hard clay. So, we chipped it out 07:23 and then we took a layer of the bricks and 07:26 we lined our trench. Then we got some of 07:30 that clay and put it in a bucket put some water 07:32 and we made our self some red clay mud. 07:36 Now I don't know if any of you have ever been 07:38 in Alabama when that mud, that red clay gets wet 07:41 and you get it on your shoes you have to 07:43 go buy another pair of shoes. 07:44 This stuff is thick, so we put a layer 07:47 of red mud on the top of those bricks. 07:50 Now friend, I want you to notice that right now 07:53 you're wrapped up in this illustration, 07:58 you're wrapped up in it. You wanna know what's 08:00 gonna happen, don't you? 08:02 So, when you start a Bible study or when you end 08:05 a Bible study, when you're making 08:07 an appeal, if you can use 08:08 an illustration to grab that attention, 08:12 you're gonna pull that person with you. 08:14 Do you want me to finish the story or not, 08:16 I'll finish the story. So we put a layer of 08:19 that mud on there and then we put another layer 08:22 of those of red bricks. And you know, 08:23 we didn't remember that an igloo had, 08:26 you know an entrance going out to the side, 08:28 so we, when we got to the top we, 08:30 we thought to ourselves well we didn't 08:32 build an igloo, we built a furnace. 08:36 You know how boys are, don't you Mrs. Gloria. 08:39 Well we decided that the only thing we could do 08:41 with this igloo was try to melt it and of course 08:45 it's made of bricks, so we decided we 08:47 could melt it, we were gonna put 08:49 a fire in there and we were gonna make that 08:51 mud back into that hard Alabama clay. 08:55 And so we put all of these pieces of 2/4, 08:59 saw dust, little pieces of wood or particle board, 09:04 all of this stuff, we put cardboard, 09:06 insulation I don't know insulation would burn but 09:09 we put it in there and we lit it. 09:15 This fire just started going and you could see 09:17 that stream coming out of that, that mud. 09:20 Well we decided that we got bored. 09:25 What are we gonna do now? And we remembered that 09:28 on the porch that my dad had just 09:30 finished building, there was an entire 09:33 shelf of spray paint cans. So we decided, 09:40 we were gonna try to blow up that igloo now oven, 09:43 now something to destroy. So we got some of that, 09:48 we got a paint can and my brother and John Mark 09:50 over there were shaking these thing up and 09:52 they get the one with the least amount of paint 09:54 in it and they hand it to me, 09:55 I was the youngest. And they said you go 09:57 throw it in, alright, I will go do it, 10:00 so that's exactly what I did, 10:01 I went over there, I threw that stuff in 10:02 there and I ran back toward John, 10:03 Mark and Donald were and I just hid and 10:05 we watched, and we watched, 10:09 nothing happen and I got out from 10:12 behind that tree, go, go, go, go check, 10:14 go check, why me? Well you're the youngest, 10:16 go check. Okay I'll go 10:17 and check and so I got out from behind that tree 10:20 and as soon as I got out from behind that tree, 10:24 Bill, one brick moved, one brick. 10:31 So we decided we're gonna blow this thing up. 10:37 So my brother and John, Mark were over there 10:38 shaking these cans and they get two of the 10:41 heaviest spray paint cans that they can. 10:45 And guess who they gave them to? 10:46 Me, and so just about the time I was gonna throw 10:49 those in our kiln that was once an igloo, 10:52 I was gonna throw those in there, 10:54 my dad burst out the back door and he says, 10:55 stop you're gonna kill yourself. 10:59 Now, why did my dad say that to me? 11:03 Because he loved me. God gives us a loud 11:08 warning in his judgment, our message, 11:12 in Revelation 14 in verse 6, 11:14 that's my opening illustration for one 11:16 of my judgment Bible studies. 11:18 Did it get your attention? 11:20 So one of the good ways, one of the best 11:23 Bible Study aids when you're giving a Bible 11:25 study to get someone's attention is to give an 11:28 illustration and how much better, 11:30 notice on our next slide here? 11:31 How much better, if that illustration 11:35 is personal. Our next slide here says, 11:39 what happens when a question is asked. 11:42 So you're given a Bible study, 11:45 you're giving a Bible study and somebody asks 11:47 you a question, what do you do 11:49 when somebody asks you a question? 11:52 You've got their attention, 11:53 you're giving them the Bible study and because 11:55 you have their attention, that person is 11:58 beginning to think and now they're 12:00 asking questions. What is it that 12:03 you can do? Well, Danielle this 12:05 is exactly what you can do when a 12:07 question is asked. We've got four 12:09 things up here. You can answer 12:11 that question in a sentence or two. 12:15 So, you simply answered in one or two sentences 12:17 and then you move on, or on our next graphic you 12:20 will see that you could promise to answer that 12:22 question at the end of the Bible study. 12:26 Promise to answer that question at the end of 12:27 the Bible study. This will save 12:29 you time during your Bible study and it will 12:33 also keep you on track. Believe it or not there 12:36 are some people that you will study the Bible 12:39 with and they will want bounce from one topic to 12:41 another topic, to another topic, 12:43 but it is your job as the Bible presenter to make 12:47 sure that you stay on topic. 12:49 So, just promise to answer that question at the 12:51 end of the study. Our next graphic shows us, 12:54 that you could simply explain that you will 12:56 cover that question at a later date. 13:00 So, you're giving Bible studies to someone 13:01 probably on a weekly basis. 13:03 On a weekly basis you're giving a Bible study 13:06 to someone and you want to be able to come back 13:08 the next week so they ask you a question 13:13 that is not on the topic that you're presenting 13:14 that week. And you say what 13:15 we are going to do is we are going to cover that 13:17 in a later Bible study. Now by doing that Tom 13:22 what you have done by doing that is you've 13:24 just hooked them. Because they asked 13:27 the question they wanna know the answer so you 13:30 have just setup another Bible study 13:32 with that person. The Bible tells us 13:34 to be as wise as a serpent and as what? 13:37 Harmless as a dove, that's right. 13:41 Our fourth thing that we could do when a 13:43 question is asked, we could say that's a 13:45 good question, write that down and 13:48 we will answer that later. Write that down and 13:52 we will answer that later. So what we've learned 13:57 so far the first thing that we could do to help 13:59 people understand our Bible studies better. 14:02 What was the first thing that we said 14:03 we could do? We could use 14:05 a chart because it helps us to understand 14:08 things better. The second thing 14:10 we could do is use what? Illustrations. 14:13 Now some of you, when I said make that 14:16 illustration personal, some of you said 14:17 yourself there is nothing that is ever 14:19 happened to me in my life that I could use as 14:21 an illustration in a Bible study. 14:23 And when I was told that maybe those of you at 14:25 home are thinking the exact same thing when 14:27 I was told that. I said forget it, 14:30 nothing has happened to me in my life. 14:33 But then you know what I did, 14:34 I begin to think about it. And I remembered my 14:37 brother and John, Mark I remembered, 14:41 I remembered riding a go-cart and flipping 14:43 it over, lack of judgment, 14:46 I remembered all of those things, 14:48 I remembered riding my bicycle on top of my dad's 14:50 junkyard cars and then getting in 14:52 trouble for that. Illustrations that 14:55 you can use that are personal from your 14:56 own life will enable people to relate 14:59 to your Bible studies so much better. 15:03 And so those of you at home, 15:04 those of us here in this classroom, 15:05 start to think about those illustrations that 15:08 you can use from your own life, 15:10 and then what we do if our Bible study is 15:13 interrupted by questions. We should certainly 15:16 welcome questions shouldn't we? 15:18 You don't want to just push off a 15:20 question and say, ah that's a crazy question, 15:22 you don't need ask that during this Bible study. 15:24 What you want to do is one of four things 15:27 and we have that backup there on our slide, 15:29 answer in a sentence or two and go on, 15:31 promise to answer at the end of the study, 15:34 explain that you will cover that later, 15:36 or say that's a good question, 15:39 write it down and we will answer that. 15:42 So these are just some Bible Study aids that you 15:45 can use while you're giving your Bible Study. 15:48 Well at the beginning of this program I promised 15:50 those of us here and those that are watching at 15:52 home that Miss Feliciano was going to be 15:54 presenting for us today a Bible Study 15:56 on Salvation. So, Eleida we look very 15:59 much forward to that now, we are very glad that 16:02 you are going to share the word of God 16:04 with us and teach us how it is 16:05 that we can be saved. 16:22 We're going to be doing our study today like 16:25 we said about the salvation and this study 16:28 we are going to be coding it S. 16:31 So as we mark this through your Bible you 16:32 are going to be writing an S on each 16:35 of the references. 16:40 The purpose of this study is to show 16:42 that the plan, the plan that God 16:45 designed to rescue man from the penalty of sin. 16:48 And we're gonna be looking at how man was 16:50 under the penalty of sin, and how God rescue 16:53 man from that. Now one thing 16:55 that we have to remember on every Bible study 16:57 to do what is that? To center it on Jesus, 17:01 this is very, very important. 17:03 We can be teaching people the doctrines of the 17:07 Bible and just giving them knowledge and that 17:09 knowledge is not going to take them anywhere. 17:12 The purpose that we want to do when we are going 17:15 to the homes and studying with people, 17:17 is so that every single Bible study to lead the 17:21 person to Christ. That's why we make sure 17:24 that every study's centered on Christ. 17:26 Now, this study is about God is a God of love, 17:30 grace and mercy who longs to save us, 17:33 as we look at the story of salvation we see a 17:36 God that longs to save us. 17:39 There's a misconception that God is just a God 17:42 who is looking down to see who is being good, 17:46 who can make it to heaven, the ones that are being 17:47 good he is gonna destroy. But as we see the story 17:51 of salvation in the Bible we see that this 17:53 is not true. God sees us and 17:58 he loves us so much that when He sees us doing 18:00 wrong he doesn't say well what one is 18:01 gonna be served, He is constantly 18:03 seeking us and we're going to 18:05 see that in this study today. 18:11 These are the texts that we are going to be 18:13 using in this study and these are the texts you 18:15 want to make sure that you have either on the 18:17 front of your Bible on the back of your Bible, 18:19 so you can reference to it as you go through 18:21 this study, since this is a 18:22 salvation study it's gonna have the number of the 18:24 texts and the S by it, and we're going to 18:29 be going through these ones today. 18:35 Our first text is found in Genesis 1:26, 18:40 27 and 31 we're gonna start at the very 18:42 beginning and the creation study. 18:45 But before we begin let's just have a short word 18:46 of prayer you want, every time you study 18:49 the Bible with someone you want to begin 18:51 and end with prayer. Let's do that at this time. 18:56 Dear Lord and heavenly Father, 18:57 we thank you that you've given us the chance 18:59 to study your word and we pray that your 19:02 Holy Spirit will be here with us and that we will 19:04 understand clearly Lord, the plan that you 19:07 have to save us, we all decided to 19:09 be saved Lord and we pray that you help 19:11 us to understand this, in Jesus name we 19:12 are praying, Amen, Amen. 19:16 And let's find out, when you get to 19:17 first Genesis 1, chapter 1 verses 26, 27 and 31. 19:25 At the end of this reference you're 19:26 going to write what's on the screen. 19:28 You're gonna have there 1S and then, 19:31 on above it there is nothing because we just 19:33 started and that's where you would put that 19:35 verse that you came from, we just began 19:38 then below it you're gonna write 19:39 Genesis 2:16, 17; and 3: 1-8. 19:43 This is where we're going to be going to. 19:45 So this is what you're going to be writing at 19:47 the end of this reference. Roberto, can I have you 19:50 you read those verses for us. 19:53 Yeah, Genesis 1:26, 27, and 31, and 31 okay. 19:58 Then God said, Let us make a man, 20:02 excuse me, Then God said, 20:07 Let us make a man in our image according 20:11 to our likeness: let them have 20:14 dominion over the fish of the sea, 20:16 over the birds of the air, 20:19 and over the cattle over all the earth, 20:21 and over every creeping thing that 20:26 creepeth on the earth. So God created man 20:29 in His own image, in the image, 20:37 that's correct, of God, He created him; 20:40 male and female He created them. 20:42 Then 31st, 31 yeah, 31. Then God saw every 20:47 thing that He had made, 20:49 and indeed, it was very good. 20:52 So the evening and the morning were 20:55 the sixth day, the sixth day. 20:58 Very good, thank you. 20:59 Now according to this verse, 21:01 how did God created man? 21:05 In His image. Perfect, Holy and it says 21:10 everything was good so it was good. 21:12 So man was created in the image of God, 21:15 in the perfect image of God. 21:18 Now we, when we consider humanity today, 21:23 is man still reflecting the perfect image of God? 21:28 No. No. I don't about you but I am far from 21:32 being perfect. And so we can 21:34 see that something happened here between 21:36 that creation and what we are experiencing now, 21:39 we're gonna look at that in, right here, 21:42 we're in the same book but we're gonna go to 21:45 chapter 2 verse 16, 17 and then we are going go 21:50 into chapter 3 verses 1-8, at the end of this 21:54 reference you are going to mark what, 21:55 it's on the screen, 2S, because this is the 21:58 second text of our Salvation Study. 22:01 We just came from Genesis 1:26, 27 and 31 22:05 so this is what you write above the line, 22:07 below the line you are gonna write Romans 3:23, 22:11 this is where we are going after. 22:14 Okay Jessica, can you read that, 22:18 if you can read just 16 and 17 right now. 22:22 But the Lord God gave him this warning: 22:24 You may freely eat any fruit in the garden except 22:27 fruit from the tree of the knowledge of 22:29 good and evil. If you eat of its fruit, 22:33 you will surely die. Hey, what did God tell 22:35 Adam and Eve here? Not to eat of the tree, 22:41 if they eat what, what will happen? 22:44 They will die, Hey this is very simple. 22:46 He said if you eat you shall die. 22:49 Now notice here, He did not say 22:51 you might die, He said you shall die. 22:53 And not just shall die but you shall surely die. 22:59 Does that sound startling enough? 23:02 Clear expectations, He told them if you 23:05 eat you will die. Now lets continue in 23:07 chapter 3, and if you continue reading 1-4, 23:15 now the serpent was the shrewdest of all the 23:18 creatures the Lord God had made. 23:21 Really? He asked the woman. 23:23 Did God really say you must not eat any of the 23:26 fruit in the garden? Of course we may eat it, 23:31 the woman told him. It's only the fruit from 23:34 the tree at the center of the garden that we 23:36 are not allowed to eat. God says we must not 23:40 eat it or even touch it, or we will die. 23:43 You won't die! The serpent hissed. 23:46 God knows that your eyes will be opened 23:48 when you eat it. You will become 23:50 just like God, knowing everything, 23:52 both good and evil. Now wait a minute what 23:55 did the serpent just say? You won't die, 24:00 you won't die. Now we just saw 24:01 in the chapter before that God said, 24:05 ye shall surely die and here the serpent 24:08 saying ye shall not die. This is a direct 24:13 contradiction to what God said. 24:17 What should Eve have done at this point? 24:20 She should have run, you're right. 24:22 She should have run the other way. 24:23 But she didn't, she sinned. 24:26 You know when, I was reading this 24:28 one time and I was there thinking Eve 24:30 what in the world, what are you doing? 24:31 Run, but you know what then I thought about 24:36 it and I have found myself in that same 24:38 situation in many times. We still do it today. 24:42 We see that clear word of God, 24:44 I mean He couldn't be more clear, 24:46 clear word of God, but we will lend our ear 24:53 to hear that which goes against what he 24:54 clearly said. If she had ran 24:56 she would not have exposed herself to the 25:00 temptation that now we're gonna see, 25:01 she put herself to. Darlene, can you continue 25:04 reading, read verse 5 for us. 25:08 For God knows that in the day ye eat 25:10 of it your eyes will be opened, 25:14 and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. 25:17 Hey now, the serpent 25:19 saying them that they are gonna know 25:20 good and evil. Now there's some truth in 25:24 this and this is just like saying to do, 25:26 mixing truth and an error. They will know 25:29 good and evil. So far they have 25:33 known only good, and it was God's 25:36 intention that, that's all 25:38 they would know, He did not desire for 25:40 them to know evil. So what they, 25:43 He told them here is actually truth. 25:47 Solita, can you continue from 6-8? 25:53 And when the woman saw that the tree was 25:55 good for food, and that the tree to 25:58 be desired to make one wise, 26:00 she took the fruit thereof and did eat, 26:03 and gave also unto her husband with her; 26:06 and he did eat. And the eyes of them 26:08 both were opened, and they knew that they 26:11 were naked; and they sewed 26:13 fig leaves together, and made 26:16 themselves aprons. And they heard 26:18 the voice of the Lord God walking in the 26:21 garden in the cool of the day: 26:23 and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the 26:25 presence of the Lord, God amongst the trees 26:28 of the garden. Now what has 26:30 happened here? What did Adam and Eve do? 26:38 They did what? They ate of the fruit, 26:40 they ate of the fruit, what was that considered? 26:43 A sin, a sin. A sin, they sinned, 26:46 now why was it a sin? They disobeyed God. 26:53 Now if you really think about it, 26:55 when Eve was told by God if you eat 26:58 it you shall die. By her eating it, 27:03 what was that saying about her 27:06 relationship with God? She doubted, 27:12 she doubted. If she had, 27:16 had through faith complete, 27:18 absolute trust in God she wouldn't even 27:21 have heard anything other than what God 27:23 had said she would have believe that. 27:25 Now why would she eat a fruit, 27:26 if she believed completely what God has said? 27:30 Disobedience is the result of lack of faith. 27:36 The same way faith is demonstrated by obe dience. 27:40 So here we see the sin was demonstrated 27:43 by disobedience but the sin itself was 27:44 lack of faith, true faith is absolute 27:48 trust in God. And she doubted, 27:53 she doubted. Now why was that 27:55 when they heard the voice of God in the 27:59 garden they hid? Exactly, shame, 28:04 they knew they were wrong, this made them feel 28:06 ashamed and guilty. Ashamed and guilty. 28:12 This is now when they are experiencing evil, 28:16 what God never intended them to experience, 28:20 and they didn't know what to do with 28:21 it so they hid. They hid from God. 28:25 Now was this just an incident that happened 28:27 thousands of years ago in a garden and 28:30 never happened again? No. No and the Bible 28:34 confirms that we are gonna look at 28:35 Romans chapter 3 verse 23 and this is our third 28:41 text of this study so when you at the end 28:44 of this reference you are going to be writing 28:46 3S in the circle. We just came from 28:49 Genesis 2:16, 17 and 3:1-8 and we're gonna 28:54 be going to Romans 6:23 after that so you are 28:58 gonna put that on the bottom. 29:01 And we're right now going to Romans 3:23. Gloria, 29:07 can you read that for us? Romans 3:23, 29:13 yes Romans 3:23, For all have sinned and 29:18 fall short of the glory of God. 29:22 Now here it says that how many have sinned? 29:24 All. All have sinned. So this is not something 29:27 that just Adam and Eve did, 29:28 this is something that all have done. 29:30 We've all sinned. We have all 29:31 experienced shame, we would have all 29:35 experienced guilt, and we would have 29:37 all tried to hid from God. Now the word here 29:41 fall short, the original Greek 29:49 word here it's continually fall and if you, 29:52 if you consider your life at least when I look 29:55 at mine I see that continually falling short 29:59 of the glory of God and this is something that 30:00 says continued through, through the history of 30:06 this earth. Now we look at this, 30:08 we know that, it was not 30:10 Adam and Eve only did sin but we have all sinned. 30:12 We all have sinned. Let's see what the Bible 30:15 says is the consequence of this sin in 30:18 Romans 6:23. Romans 6:23, 30:22 and if you look at the screen, 30:24 this is our forth text, so you are going to be 30:27 writing 4S on the circle above the line, 30:31 we just came from Romans 3:23 and below 30:35 the line you are gonna write John 1:1-4 30:37 and we are gonna especially be looking 30:38 at verse 4, this is where we 30:40 are going afterwards. We are on Romans 6:23 30:45 and Duson, can you read that for us? 30:49 For the wages of sin is death; 30:52 but the gift of God is eternal life through 30:55 Jesus Christ our Lord. Alright. 30:57 Now according to this, what is the 30:59 consequences of sin? Death, death. 31:02 Was not that what God had told Adam and Eve. 31:05 Yes, if you eat you shall die. 31:07 So here again the Bible is confirming the same 31:10 statement that if we are sinned, 31:13 the consequence of it is death. 31:17 Now why death? Why not impressment or 31:19 and corporal punishment? Why did it have 31:22 to be death? The Bible actually 31:24 answers this question, we are gonna go to 31:26 John chapter 1, and we are gonna be 31:28 looking at verses 1-4 to find out why is that the 31:32 penalty of sin is death? John chapter 1, 31:40 we're looking at verses 1-4 and this is our 31:43 fifth text so you are marking your Bible, 31:46 at the end of this reference you're 31:48 going to write as it looks on the screen 5S 31:51 in the circle above that we just came from 31:55 Romans 6:23 and then below it you are gonna 31:57 write Isaiah 59:1, 2 that's what we are going 32:00 to go after this text. And Tim, can you read 32:03 that for us? Sure. 32:06 In the beginning was the Word, 32:08 and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 32:13 The same was in the beginning with God. 32:15 All things were made by Him; 32:17 and without Him was not any thing made that 32:20 was made. In Him was life; 32:22 and the life was the light of men. Alright. 32:27 According to these verses, where do we find the 32:30 source of life? In God, in God, in Jesus himself. 32:35 So here this is telling is that the source 32:37 of life is God, God is the source 32:41 of all life, God is the source 32:43 of all life. Now continuing 32:45 this thought, we are gonna go 32:46 to Isaiah 59 verses 1 and 2, 32:50 we are still looking to see why is that, 32:52 the penalty of sin is death? 32:55 Isaiah 59 verses 1 and 2. and this is our sixth 33:02 text on this study so at the end of this 33:08 reference you're going to be writing as it looks 33:11 on the screen 6S in a circle draw a line, 33:16 above the line John 1:1-4 that's where we 33:19 come from, and below the 33:21 line John 3:16 and 17, that's where we are 33:24 going to. Isaiah 59 verse 1 and 2, 33:32 Ryan, can you read that for us please? 33:34 Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, 33:37 that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, 33:39 that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have 33:42 separated between you and your God, 33:44 and your sins have hid His face from you, 33:47 that He will not hear. Very good. 33:51 Now here what does it say the sin does to us? 33:57 It separates, it separates us from God. 34:01 It separates us from God. 34:03 Now we looked at the verse before that the source 34:08 of life is God. God is source of all life. 34:14 And now here we see that sin separates 34:16 us from God. Now if God is the 34:20 source of all life and we're separated 34:23 from them, from Him what is 34:25 the sure result? Death, death. 34:30 Can you see now why sin, the consequence of 34:34 sin is death? Yes, it's clear now. 34:38 God is the source of all life and if we are 34:42 separated from Him there's nothing else that 34:46 can happen but that death will come along. 34:50 Now we have seen so far that God created 34:53 man into His image, which means that 34:58 man was what? Perfect. Man was perfect. 35:03 Now we see man is not perfect now and it's 35:06 because we had Adam and Eve disobeying God. 35:12 They distrusted His word, and disobeyed Him. 35:18 Now God made clear what would happen if 35:22 they disobeyed? If we look that what 35:28 happened right now? We have sinned that 35:32 God said if they eat they will die. 35:34 We have sinned that the Bible says that all have 35:37 sinned and fall short of the glory of God and 35:40 we have sinned that the Bible says that their 35:42 consequence of sin is death. 35:44 If we stop right here this will be a very, 35:48 very sad story. Now we think about it 35:54 God told Adam and Eve if you ate it, 35:57 you will die. So if he left at here, 36:00 would he still be a fair and just God? 36:09 Yes, of course. He told them if 36:13 they ate of the fruit that they will die 36:16 so if he left at that he was leaving them 36:19 to the consequences of what they chose to do. 36:22 You know I was a teacher, an elementary school 36:25 teacher for ten years and there was something 36:28 that I decided I was going to do every year 36:31 I was just very, very careful at this, 36:34 and it was I wanted to make sure that I 36:37 was fair and just with my students. 36:40 That was important to me. And so at the beginning 36:43 of the year I spent quite a few, 36:48 most of my time at that time just giving clear 36:52 expectations of what should happen in the 36:56 classroom the type of behavior that 36:59 should be there, the type of work I 37:00 was expecting and I was very clear the 37:03 consequences that will come if they happened. 37:05 Throughout the year I make sure those were 37:08 refreshed as well, so that the students knew. 37:11 Now I had one student who came in the 37:14 middle of the year because he was having issues 37:16 behaving in his previous classrooms, 37:18 so they sent him to my class. 37:20 And I, and I, he, I noticed right way 37:23 that he was a very bright student. 37:27 And everything that we were doing he 37:29 would pick it up right away, 37:30 and he was very quick at everything. 37:34 So I knew that his problem was not academic. 37:40 So it's, I saw that he was finished earlier so 37:42 I began to tell him you know if you are done 37:45 and you are finished, there's other few things 37:48 that you can do, now he love to 37:49 go to the computer. So I told him if you 37:54 are done with your work, you may go to the 37:57 computer but this is what you can do when 37:58 you go there. There's these three 38:00 websites that you can go to they were educational 38:03 websites where he can do different 38:05 activities there. And I said, 38:08 but if you go out side of those websites you 38:13 will lose your privilege to use the computer for 38:15 the next three weeks. Now he went in there 38:18 for several days and everything was fine but 38:21 one day he decided I'm going to go and do 38:24 what I want. So he went and 38:26 he was in a different website, 38:28 and you know pretty soon one of the 38:30 students told me, you know they are 38:31 very good at that, they to tell anything 38:32 when they're in the first and second grade, 38:34 that's just their favorite thing is to do. 38:35 Sometimes you get tired of it. 38:37 Someone right away, Miss, Miss Eleida Feliciano, 38:40 he is in a website he shouldn't be in 38:41 so I went over there and I said you need to 38:44 get off the computer and you will not have the 38:46 computer again for the next three weeks. 38:48 Now one of their favorite phrases is, 38:50 that's not fair. So he said that. 38:53 And I looked at him and I said, really, you know. 38:55 It's really important for me to be fair, 38:58 so if it's not fair I want to know why 39:00 it's not fair, so let's look at this. 39:03 Did you know that you could not go to 39:05 that website, yes, did I tell you 39:07 what would happen if you went outside of the 39:11 three websites that I told you could go to, 39:14 yes, then is that not fair? 39:18 And he stood quite for a little bit and he said 39:20 yeah it's fair. You can't say 39:23 anything else, there was clear 39:25 expectation and he had, he knew what the 39:29 consequences would be. No, I never said if 39:31 you do something you are gonna lose it for 39:34 the rest of the year, 'cause I, 39:35 you know you wanna be fair also in the 39:36 consequences you gave. I gave him a chance 39:38 after the three weeks, and now he would 39:43 not do that again 'cause he didn't wanna missed 39:44 out on his computer. So we see that you 39:47 know when we want to be fair, 39:51 this is what we did. So God would 39:52 have still be fair, because he gave clear 39:54 expectations and the told them what the 39:57 consequences would be. But I am so happy 40:00 that God is not just fair and just, 40:03 but he is also loving and merciful. Amen, amen. 40:09 And so even though it would have been just 40:12 the right thing to do, they decided to die, 40:15 God told them and they did it anyway but 40:17 God intervened. And we are gonna 40:19 see in the Bible what God did to rescue men from 40:23 the consequences of their own actions. 40:26 And we are going now to John 3:16 and 17, 40:30 John 3:16 and 17. 40:39 Now at the end of this reference, 40:43 this is our seventh text so you're going 40:45 to be writing as it shows on the screen, 40:48 7S on the circle, draw a line, 40:51 above it Isaiah 59:1 and 2 that's where we 40:54 came from, below it 40:56 Matthew 20 verse 28 that's where we are going 40:59 to after this verse. And we are in John 3 41:03 and we are looking at verses 16 and 17, 41:08 Anita can you read that for us? 41:11 For God so loved the world, 41:13 that he gave his only begotten Son, 41:16 that whosoever believeth in him 41:18 should not perish, but have everlasting life. 41:22 For God sent not his Son into the world to 41:24 condemn the world; but that the world through 41:27 him might be saved. Amen. Thank you sister. 41:31 Now here we see that God has intervened. 41:36 Now, how, what did he do to save us from 41:42 the consequences of sin? He gave his son. 41:47 Not just any guy, not one of his servants, 41:51 not one of his, we know think about our 41:53 family and the people we love and we 41:54 love everybody, you know but 41:56 there is a degree of love that we have 41:58 for everyone. You know it will 41:59 be easier for me to give up one of my cousins 42:01 whom I love but you know they're more distant, 42:04 the closer they get to you a sister will be a lot 42:06 harder for me. Now I don't have children, 42:09 but I know that it has to be a lot harder. 42:13 Now he did not just give one of the angels 42:16 or one of the, He gave His only son, 42:19 that one has been with Him for eternity. 42:23 Now according to these verses, 42:25 what motivated him to do so? 42:29 Love. It says He loved the world. 42:34 Love motivated God to do this. 42:37 He did not have to do it, 42:41 He did not have to do it, 42:42 He had told Adam and Eve the consequences 42:45 they did, they deserved the 42:46 consequences. But because 42:48 God loves the world, He loves you, 42:52 He loves me so much that he came up and you know 42:59 he decided to give up his son. 43:02 This whole point, that was not just 43:03 He came and die, He had to live on this earth, 43:05 well He was mistreated, rejected, 43:09 spat upon and He did that because of love. 43:16 Now I know none of us know that kind of 43:18 love on this earth, there's not one person 43:20 that loves you that much. And a lot of times 43:23 we hear people saying I love you, 43:24 and it's, sometimes you wonder 'cause their 43:27 actions don't really show it. 43:29 Now you don't have to wonder with God. 43:32 Sometimes I wonder why he loves me so much, 43:34 because I, He does so much 43:35 for us and you wonder why. 43:39 It's a love that can not be understood but 43:41 it's a true love. Now we learned that 43:43 the result of sin is death. Now how does God 43:47 gave in his son, saved us from the 43:52 penalty of sin we're gonna look at 43:53 Matthew chapter 20 and verse 28, 43:56 Matthew 20 verse 28. Now as we're going through 44:02 this study remember always that we are doing 44:04 this study we are centering in Christ 44:06 and this is why I'm making sure as you're 44:08 going the study you're leading people back to 44:10 the fact that God loves them, 44:12 God is a God of love, you want to make sure 44:15 you are establishing that because you want 44:16 them to connect with God. If they came out of 44:19 there and they just knew about God but 44:22 didn't know Him, they're still not 44:24 gonna have salvation. 'Cause salvation 44:26 is in him. So we wanna 44:28 make sure we leading people to God, 44:30 this is our eight text so at the end of this 44:33 reference you are going to be writing 44:35 8S in a circle, draw a line, 44:37 above the line John 3:16, 44:40 17 that's where we came from. 44:42 We are going to be go into Romans 5:10 44:45 so that will be below the line. 44:48 Matthew chapter 20 verse 28, 44:51 Tom, can you read that for us please? 44:54 Just as the Son of man did not to be served, 44:58 but to serve, and to give his 45:00 life a ransom for many. Very good. 45:03 He gave His life as a ransom, 45:04 what's a ransom? The price. 45:08 It's a payment, it's a price. 45:10 So he paid with His own life for ours, 45:13 you know what, He took our place, 45:15 the death that we should have died, 45:19 He died for us, He died for us. 45:20 We learned also that sin separates us from God, 45:25 now we know He paid now the penalty 45:26 of sin but how we are going to be solved 45:29 that problem of that separation from God so 45:32 we can continue in life. Now we are gonna look 45:34 at that in Romans 5 verse 10, 45:37 Romans 5 verse 10. And this is why here, 45:42 we are looking now at the ninth text 45:45 in our study. So at the end 45:47 of this reference you are going to Mark as it 45:50 shows on the screen 9S in the circle above 45:54 the line Matthew 20:28 this is where we 45:56 just came from and we are gonna be going 45:58 to Ephesians 2:8, we are gonna be 46:02 go into Ephesians 2:8. Romans 5:10, 46:07 Mike, could you please read that for us? 46:11 For if, when we were enemies, 46:13 we were reconciled to God by the 46:14 death of his Son, much more, 46:17 being reconciled, we shall be saved 46:20 by his life. Now here it 46:23 tells us the solution of the separation, 46:26 Mike what did it say about, 46:28 about that separation, what does God, 46:31 what does Jesus does for us? 46:35 The death of his son, we are reconciled. 46:37 He reconciles us back to God. 46:40 So we were separated but when we receive Christ, 46:43 He reconciles us back to God, 46:47 back to God. Now when Jesus died, 46:50 who did He die for? All of us. 46:53 All of us, all of us. 46:55 His death paid for the sins of every person 47:00 on this earth. Now, is everybody 47:04 gonna be saved? No. No. But His life, 47:10 I mean His death paid for the penalty of the sin 47:14 of every person on this earth, 47:16 it's available to everyone and yes it 47:19 is a free gift. But we have 47:23 the choice to receive it. And how do we receive 47:27 the salvation that's what we are gonna 47:28 look at now, in Ephesians 2:8 how we 47:31 receive this precious gift that God had given us. 47:36 Ephesians chapter 2 verse 8, 47:41 this is the tenth text on our study and we're 47:45 going to mark 10S in the circle, 47:48 Romans 5:10 above that's where we came from, 47:50 we are going to John 8:24 after this. 47:55 We are now in Ephesians 2:8, 47:58 Vanessa can you read that for us? 48:05 Thank you. For by grace are ye 48:10 saved through faith; and that not 48:14 of yourselves: it is the gift of God. 48:17 Very good. Now how do we receive salvation? 48:21 Through faith, by grace though faith. 48:25 Now grace here means is a gift, 48:27 God has given it and we receive it through faith. 48:31 Now faith is not something that we just profess. 48:35 There's a lot of people who profess 48:37 things but faith, true faith is expressed 48:40 by our actions. Now we're going 48:43 to look at a few verses that shows us the 48:46 expression of true faith and we are gonna 48:49 look at verses that Jesus himself was speaking 48:51 and if you have one of these Bibles that have 48:54 red lettering for Jesus writings that you will 48:57 see that the next following verses that 49:00 we are gonna look at are all in red. 49:02 Jesus himself was saying that if we have 49:03 faith in Him we will believe His words. 49:07 Now we are gonna look at what the expressions 49:10 of faith are and the first one we are gonna 49:12 look at is in John 8 verse 24, 49:17 this is the eleventh text on our study 49:20 so we are going to mark at the end of 49:22 this reference, 11S, above the line Romans 5:10 49:27 that's where we came from and we are going 49:29 to Luke 13:2-5 after that. So we are now on 49:34 John 8:24. Danielle, can you read that 49:41 for us please? I said therefore unto you, 49:45 that ye shall die in your sins: 49:48 for if ye believe not that I am he, 49:49 ye shall die in your sins. Now what does it say 49:53 here about salvation? We have to believe, 49:58 believe in what? In Jesus, 50:00 that if ye believe not that I am he. 50:05 So if you don't believe that Jesus is 50:07 the Messiah, the one that 50:08 came to die for you then you are now 50:11 gonna have salvation so the first thing we 50:12 need to do, to receive this 50:13 salvation that how we demonstrate the faith is 50:16 believing in Jesus, believing in Jesus. 50:19 Let's see what else it tells, 50:21 Jesus tells us that we need to do as we express 50:25 our faith in Luke chapter 13 verses 2-5, 50:30 Luke 13:2-5 and you are gonna mark at the end 50:35 of this reference as it shows on the screen 12S, 50:40 and then above it. John 8:24 that's where 50:43 we came from and we will be going to 50:44 Mark 16:16 after that. Luke 13 verse 2-5, 50:52 Bill, can you read that for us? 50:54 And Jesus answered and said to them, 50:56 do you suppose that these Galilaeans were worse 50:59 sinners than all other Galilaeans, 51:01 because they suffered such things? 51:04 I tell you, no: but unless you repent, 51:07 you will all likewise perish. 51:09 Or those eighteen on whom the tower 51:12 in Siloam fell, and killed them, 51:15 do you think that they were worse sinners 51:20 than all the other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? 51:21 I tell you, no: but, unless you repent, 51:22 you will all likewise perish. Now here what does 51:26 Jesus tells us we have to do to make sure we 51:27 don't perish and we are saved, 51:30 to repent, to repent. 51:33 We must believe in Him and we must repent, 51:37 what are we repenting from? 51:40 Sin, sin. Our wrong ways Now when you repent, 51:43 do you just say I am sorry, no, no. 51:46 there's change, yeah because 51:48 when you repent, it's a change of mind, 51:49 is deciding you know this is wrong I don't 51:55 wanna do this and you walk away from it. 51:56 you might fall into it again because we are, 51:57 you know, human beings are weak, 51:59 but you are not willingly going back to it. 52:04 So you are turning from that sin. 52:07 So Jesus told us we must believe in him 52:09 and we must repent. We are gonna look 52:12 at Mark 16, verse 16 now to see 52:15 what else shows or expresses our 52:18 faith in God. Mark 16:16, 52:24 He who believes in and baptized will be saved. 52:29 but he who does not believe will be condemned. 52:34 Very good, thank you. 52:36 Now here what is it telling us about 52:39 salvation here? We have to believe and, 52:44 be baptized, be baptized, 52:45 that's the demonstration of your faith. 52:47 Now you, Jesus told us believe in Him, 52:51 we repent and be baptized. And baptism is just a 52:55 demonstration of faith, when you are showing 53:00 the world that you've chosen to follow Christ. 53:02 Now the end of this reference you are gonna 53:04 make sure that you mark 13S in the circle 53:09 above it Luke 13 verses 2-5 and below it 53:13 Revelation 2:10, we will be going 53:16 through Revelation 2:10 and we are gonna see 53:18 there the last verse that we are gonna look 53:21 at the demonstrations of faith on our 53:24 study today. This is Revelation 53:27 chapter 2 and verse 10, at the end of that 53:39 reference you are going to be marking as it 53:41 shows on the screen, this is the 53:43 fourteenth verse, so you are gonna 53:46 write 14S, you are gonna 53:47 write above the line Mark 16:16 and below it 53:52 Second Peter 3:9 that's where we will be going 53:56 after this one. We are now in 53:57 Revelation 2:10, Jessica can you 54:01 read that for us? Don't be afraid of 54:05 what you are about to suffer. 54:07 The devil will throw some of you into prison 54:10 and put you to the test. You will be persecuted 54:13 for ten days, remain faithful even 54:16 facing death, and I will give 54:19 you the crown of life. There you know, 54:22 why does Jesus tells us here that we must do? 54:27 It says remain faithful, we must remain faithful. 54:32 It says we have chosen now that we know 54:34 that the gift, the salvation is a gift, 54:37 it's given to us and we must receive it but 54:40 to be able to, to be saved we 54:42 must remain faithful, I mean we need to keep 54:46 this, His gift. You can and you 54:48 are still free at any point to let go 54:52 of that gift. So it does not 54:55 mean once you receive it you are saved and 54:57 that's it you can walk away from that, 55:00 you are still has the same freedom that 55:02 you had to receive it in the first place. 55:05 So we must remain faithful, 55:10 we must remain faithful. 55:12 The Lord has given us the gift, 55:16 He has given us the choice, 55:23 it is our choice. Let's look at Second Peter 55:25 chapter 3 verse 9, Second Peter 55:26 chapter 3 verse 9, excuse me for a minute, 55:33 this is the our fifteenth text, 55:35 and you are gonna mark it just as it shows 55:36 on the screen, 15S, above the line 55:40 Revelation 2:10 and we're gonna be going into 55:42 First John 5:1 -13 after that, 55:45 Darlene, can you read that for us. 55:48 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, 55:51 as some count slackness; 55:54 but is long suffering toward us, 55:56 not willing that any should perish, 55:58 but that all should come to repentance. 56:00 Okay. Now here again we are seeing God as 56:05 a long suffering God. How many does He 56:10 want to perish? None, He is not willing 56:13 that any should perish, He wants each of us 56:17 to be saved that's what His heart long, 56:19 He longs to save us, He longs to save us, 56:25 He longs to save you my friend but the choice 56:28 continues to be ours. And every time we walk 56:31 away from it He still goes after us and He 56:35 continues to seek after us, 56:38 but the choice continues to be ours. 56:40 We're going to be going to our last text 56:42 which is found in First John 5:11-13 56:47 since this is the last text when you mark it, 56:50 as shown on the screen you are going to put 16S, 56:53 you are going to put Second Peter 3:9 and End, 56:56 okay. Second Peter 3:9, 56:59 Solita, can you read that for us, 57:01 that's First John 5:11-13. And this is the record, 57:07 that God hath given to us eternal life, 57:10 and this life is in his Son. 57:13 He that hath the Son hath life; 57:16 and he that hath not the Son of God 57:18 hath not life. These things have 57:21 I written unto you that believe on the name of 57:25 the Son of God; that ye may know 57:28 that ye have eternal life, and that ye may 57:31 believe on the name of the Son of God. 57:35 Okay now here it tells us that to have 57:37 life we must have Jesus, Jesus gives us life. |
