No, it's too late now. 00:00:30.74\00:00:33.62 I am glad you could join us. 00:00:33.65\00:00:34.68 We were just sitting around talking about 00:00:34.71\00:00:35.82 mission experiences 00:00:35.85\00:00:36.89 and in our studio we have Judy and Dennis. 00:00:36.92\00:00:40.78 Did I say your last name right? Yes. 00:00:40.81\00:00:42.19 It's like Lithuanian, I think or something like that. 00:00:42.22\00:00:45.35 And anyhow, we just were talking 00:00:45.38\00:00:46.84 about recent mission trips 00:00:46.87\00:00:48.11 and we're happy that you could be with us here. 00:00:48.14\00:00:49.92 I think you'll really enjoy the program today. 00:00:49.95\00:00:52.80 They just recently came back from Northern India 00:00:52.83\00:00:56.21 and Nepal on a mission trip, 00:00:56.24\00:00:58.24 and the reason I invited them to come to the studio 00:00:58.27\00:01:00.37 is because they went and interface 00:01:00.40\00:01:02.50 with one of our projects in North India. 00:01:02.53\00:01:04.91 And you folks didn't do the application process 00:01:04.94\00:01:07.16 and everything. 00:01:07.19\00:01:08.23 I kind of said, you came in through the back door kind of. 00:01:08.26\00:01:10.83 You actually just kind of contacted me and asked, 00:01:10.86\00:01:13.08 hey, we're going to be traveling in India, 00:01:13.11\00:01:14.55 visiting different ministries, 00:01:14.58\00:01:15.61 we'd like to go and check with-- 00:01:15.64\00:01:17.46 check on the work that Sandra and Terri Horner are doing 00:01:17.49\00:01:19.65 and would that be okay? 00:01:19.68\00:01:21.07 And I said, sure. 00:01:21.10\00:01:22.13 And so you folks kind of like on the outside looking in, 00:01:22.16\00:01:26.02 going checking on one of our projects, 00:01:26.05\00:01:27.76 not as missionaries working with our ministry 00:01:27.79\00:01:29.42 but just kind of like freelance missionaries, 00:01:29.45\00:01:32.06 I guess you could say. 00:01:32.09\00:01:33.37 So how'd you happen to know about this particular project 00:01:33.40\00:01:36.54 with Sandra and Terri Horner in North India to begin with? 00:01:36.57\00:01:39.60 We've been getting their magazine 00:01:39.63\00:01:40.94 from Laymen Ministries for years, 00:01:40.97\00:01:42.62 and followed the projects and just thought someday 00:01:42.65\00:01:45.81 we'd love to go visit their project. 00:01:45.84\00:01:47.75 We've been in Nepal before 00:01:47.78\00:01:49.32 and just that whole Nepali culture 00:01:49.35\00:01:52.12 in the mountain area appealed to us. 00:01:52.15\00:01:54.29 So you folks are not new to traveling. 00:01:54.32\00:01:57.85 I mean, it sounds like 00:01:57.88\00:01:58.91 you've done a little bit of traveling in the past. 00:01:58.94\00:02:00.33 Dennis, and you said, you were in South America one time and-- 00:02:00.36\00:02:03.46 I flew my motorcycle down with another church member 00:02:03.49\00:02:05.94 down to South America, Argentina, 00:02:05.97\00:02:09.17 and rode a motorcycle all the way up from Argentina-- 00:02:09.20\00:02:12.03 You are kidding me. It sounds like a blast. 00:02:12.06\00:02:13.83 It was great. 00:02:13.86\00:02:14.89 It was 17,000 some miles and then the next year 00:02:14.92\00:02:17.94 we finished up to Alaska, tip of Alaska. 00:02:17.97\00:02:20.99 So you two both have had some experience 00:02:21.02\00:02:23.41 prior to this particular trip. 00:02:23.44\00:02:25.91 So where all did you go in India 00:02:25.94\00:02:28.42 and when you got up to where 00:02:28.45\00:02:30.05 Sandra and Terri were training school 00:02:30.08\00:02:31.37 is our life education health training center. 00:02:31.40\00:02:35.24 How long did you plan on staying there? 00:02:35.27\00:02:38.17 Well, we weren't sure. 00:02:38.20\00:02:39.72 We knew we had seven or eight weeks left. 00:02:39.75\00:02:41.83 We spent other times in other counties 00:02:41.86\00:02:44.23 and that was going to be our last place to be. 00:02:44.26\00:02:49.05 And so we're checking it out. 00:02:49.08\00:02:51.83 Judy and I were just checking it out when we first got there. 00:02:51.86\00:02:55.11 But at the same time when we just got there 00:02:55.14\00:02:57.34 Sandra says, don't unpack 00:02:57.37\00:02:58.67 because I have you going with a team to Nepal 00:02:58.70\00:03:03.52 and they broke out in four teams so-- 00:03:03.55\00:03:05.32 I mean you meet Sandra for the first time 00:03:05.35\00:03:07.23 and you just arrive there, 00:03:07.26\00:03:09.17 and she's saying don't unpack your bags. 00:03:09.20\00:03:11.25 Yes. 00:03:11.28\00:03:12.54 What's up with that? 00:03:12.57\00:03:14.37 And she had-- she gave us a schedule 00:03:14.40\00:03:16.97 what I needed to speak on. 00:03:17.00\00:03:18.85 And I get real nervous speaking out in front, 00:03:18.88\00:03:23.58 I had an interpreter and they said 00:03:23.61\00:03:25.22 it would be easier as I can speak, 00:03:25.25\00:03:28.73 I would have time to think. 00:03:28.76\00:03:30.75 But it doesn't work that way for me with the interpreter. 00:03:30.78\00:03:33.88 I lost my thoughts, but it was good. 00:03:33.91\00:03:36.62 So you got there and you didn't even hardly unpack your bags 00:03:36.65\00:03:39.61 and then you guys went to Nepal then from North India? 00:03:39.64\00:03:42.18 Is that what you're saying? Yes. 00:03:42.21\00:03:43.24 Where did you actually go? 00:03:43.27\00:03:44.30 I mean, can you give me 00:03:44.33\00:03:45.55 a general idea of where you two ended up? 00:03:45.58\00:03:48.40 I can't remember the name of the village 00:03:48.43\00:03:50.20 but from the point where we took land transportation 00:03:50.23\00:03:53.77 to a particular village site 00:03:53.80\00:03:55.88 and then it was major four wheeling roads 00:03:55.91\00:03:58.38 for 2 hours up into the mountains in a vehicle. 00:03:58.41\00:04:01.64 And they were sitting in the back on sacks of rice 00:04:01.67\00:04:05.17 and I got to sit up front. 00:04:05.20\00:04:07.38 So you got to experience traveling in Nepali style. 00:04:07.41\00:04:09.53 Yes. Yes. 00:04:09.56\00:04:10.74 And some people on top too, I think. 00:04:10.77\00:04:14.27 And so you were actually in the foothills 00:04:14.30\00:04:16.11 of the Himalaya Mountains 00:04:16.14\00:04:17.18 and some of the village there in eastern Nepal, 00:04:17.21\00:04:19.44 kind of way out in the far eastern side of Nepal? 00:04:19.47\00:04:22.07 Southeast. Southeastern. 00:04:22.10\00:04:24.23 Yeah. Yeah. 00:04:24.26\00:04:25.35 So general impressions, what was it like? 00:04:25.38\00:04:29.27 I don't know if there's a picture of the bathroom 00:04:29.30\00:04:32.68 that is shorten, but water is-- 00:04:32.71\00:04:38.83 every couple hours you have water, 00:04:38.86\00:04:40.96 the rest of the village doesn't. 00:04:40.99\00:04:42.22 The water comes 00:04:42.25\00:04:43.82 and they transfer to a different village 00:04:43.85\00:04:45.74 through a little hose, pipes all over the mountainside. 00:04:45.77\00:04:50.32 They gave us a table, it was a regular kitchen table 00:04:50.35\00:04:54.56 and they put blankets on it and says, 00:04:54.59\00:04:56.81 we know the westerners don't like 00:04:56.84\00:04:58.81 sleeping on the floor, they like bed. 00:04:58.84\00:05:00.72 So they gave us a table. 00:05:00.75\00:05:02.81 So that was your bed? That was our-- 00:05:02.84\00:05:04.55 And you said something about toilets? 00:05:04.58\00:05:06.62 Now, I've been in these parts in Nepal 00:05:06.65\00:05:08.42 and one of the reasons we're running 00:05:08.45\00:05:09.93 a Health Education Lifestyle Center 00:05:09.96\00:05:12.18 is because people don't have toilets. 00:05:12.21\00:05:14.92 And they just go out into the bushes kind of, 00:05:14.95\00:05:17.92 so you are saying, they have some kind a makeshift outhouses 00:05:17.95\00:05:21.81 or something like that or-- 00:05:21.84\00:05:22.90 Yes, it was tent, it was little squatter. 00:05:22.93\00:05:26.31 And this is because of the- 00:05:26.34\00:05:27.67 probably the teaching of our missionaries going there 00:05:27.70\00:05:29.71 and working with the people. 00:05:29.74\00:05:30.77 Yes. 00:05:30.80\00:05:31.83 So what are the kind of things did you experience 00:05:31.86\00:05:33.33 while you were there as far as like 00:05:33.36\00:05:35.07 the hygiene and things like that? 00:05:35.10\00:05:37.43 I, for two weeks, I did not have a bath 00:05:37.46\00:05:40.13 or spit bath of any kind which is a first in my life. 00:05:40.16\00:05:43.51 The water was there at times 00:05:43.54\00:05:45.57 but the privacy was not in the little outhouse. 00:05:45.60\00:05:47.96 So what did the nationals do? 00:05:47.99\00:05:50.04 They bathe underneath their clothes 00:05:50.07\00:05:52.76 out in this big cement square 00:05:52.79\00:05:55.23 that supposed to be the squat pot, 00:05:55.26\00:05:57.85 designed for them. 00:05:57.88\00:05:58.92 Okay. Yeah. 00:05:58.95\00:06:00.70 And then they wash their dishes on the ground, 00:06:00.73\00:06:04.38 the chickens are right there. 00:06:04.41\00:06:05.89 Or when you're eating, when you're finished 00:06:05.92\00:06:07.38 eating the chickens come up to the table 00:06:07.41\00:06:08.86 and eat off your plates. 00:06:08.89\00:06:11.16 Did you see them washing the pots 00:06:11.19\00:06:13.02 and pans out with mud? 00:06:13.05\00:06:15.05 Did you notice them doing that? 00:06:15.08\00:06:16.49 Yes. We did that. 00:06:16.52\00:06:18.67 Each meal, they had to break sticks and cook. 00:06:18.70\00:06:21.77 There was no gas stove, no anything else, 00:06:21.80\00:06:24.68 it was just sticks. 00:06:24.71\00:06:26.46 And we waited for our food for hours. 00:06:26.49\00:06:30.71 Rice and potatoes. Rice and potatoes. 00:06:30.74\00:06:32.75 Rice and greens. Rice and greens. 00:06:32.78\00:06:35.18 And they ate with their fingers, 00:06:35.21\00:06:37.04 then we asked for spoons. 00:06:37.07\00:06:38.51 So Judy and I were the only ones with the spoons 00:06:38.54\00:06:41.92 and they felt comfortable eating in their tradition. 00:06:41.95\00:06:46.08 Did you get to see any of the churches 00:06:46.11\00:06:47.48 that Sandra and Terri's teams 00:06:47.51\00:06:48.89 have been involved with building? 00:06:48.92\00:06:50.81 Did you get to speak at any of the churches or? 00:06:50.84\00:06:52.88 In Mungpoo, yes they built the church and it's really-- 00:06:52.91\00:06:55.34 Well, that's a beautiful facility. 00:06:55.37\00:06:56.40 It's a very, very special. 00:06:56.43\00:06:58.08 I guess Terri and Sandra and the students 00:06:58.11\00:07:00.94 at that time build it, and we were there. 00:07:00.97\00:07:05.79 Yeah, just very impressed overall with the whole program. 00:07:05.82\00:07:08.37 Yeah, various places all over eastern Nepal, 00:07:08.40\00:07:11.24 we've built probably about eight or nine churches, 00:07:11.27\00:07:13.40 they're more primitive than the when 00:07:13.43\00:07:14.75 that you folks were in. 00:07:14.78\00:07:15.81 I didn't know if you got 00:07:15.84\00:07:16.87 to actually see any in the field or not 00:07:16.90\00:07:18.48 but they are little bit not as nice as that one. 00:07:18.51\00:07:21.20 But actually these places, 00:07:21.23\00:07:23.96 you know, people are just Hindus 00:07:23.99\00:07:25.21 and they go in there and work with these folks 00:07:25.24\00:07:27.50 and establish churches. 00:07:27.53\00:07:28.70 It's really quite amazing. 00:07:28.73\00:07:31.05 What kind of experiences did you have out in the field? 00:07:31.08\00:07:33.05 Tell me about what you're doing in such out there? 00:07:33.08\00:07:36.21 I mean, Sandra, did she say, okay, we're heading 00:07:36.24\00:07:38.58 and did she tell you what you're going to do 00:07:38.61\00:07:40.42 or was it just winning the whole thing or what? 00:07:40.45\00:07:41.96 Well, no. 00:07:41.99\00:07:43.02 She had a layout there, when I spoke, 00:07:43.05\00:07:46.86 when she spoke, 00:07:46.89\00:07:47.92 when students spoke via translators 00:07:47.95\00:07:50.48 so it went all day long. 00:07:50.51\00:07:52.07 Morning worship, afternoon, evening. 00:07:52.10\00:07:54.98 Evening was the big one where the village will come in 00:07:55.01\00:07:57.73 and they had the speaker 00:07:57.76\00:07:59.19 and you wouldn't want to sit next to the speaker 00:07:59.22\00:08:01.18 because it was very loud. 00:08:01.21\00:08:02.91 So, Dennis, I mean, what do you think 00:08:02.94\00:08:04.55 when she all of a sudden, 00:08:04.58\00:08:05.63 you don't even know Sandra or Terri, 00:08:05.66\00:08:07.56 you're going, okay, we're going to go to Nepal 00:08:07.59\00:08:09.50 and she hands you this piece of paper. 00:08:09.53\00:08:10.74 What did you see on there? 00:08:10.77\00:08:11.86 What kind of responsibilities did she give you? 00:08:11.89\00:08:14.61 What was your reaction? 00:08:14.64\00:08:15.68 Well, my reaction was I talked to the interpreter real quick 00:08:15.71\00:08:19.49 and I says, can you do my part? 00:08:19.52\00:08:21.49 And he says, no, you're doing your part 00:08:21.52\00:08:23.34 and I'll help you, you know. 00:08:23.37\00:08:24.87 So but as it went, I enjoy studying 00:08:24.90\00:08:28.91 and it worked very well. 00:08:28.94\00:08:30.62 We had the local village which was the village 00:08:30.65\00:08:33.96 there would probably was maybe 15-18 buildings. 00:08:33.99\00:08:38.50 And now so we had a turnout of maybe 25-30 people each night. 00:08:38.53\00:08:43.47 And what was your responsibility there 00:08:43.50\00:08:44.99 and what were you doing? 00:08:45.02\00:08:46.74 Giving talks on Daniel. 00:08:46.77\00:08:50.40 So and you were all prepared for this? 00:08:50.43\00:08:52.54 No, not at all. 00:08:52.57\00:08:54.30 So luckily I brought literature 00:08:54.33\00:08:57.39 and they also-- the students did, 00:08:57.42\00:09:00.68 and we shared, you know, shared the notes 00:09:00.71\00:09:04.96 and they had Daniel also, different parts of Daniel. 00:09:04.99\00:09:07.81 So it was very good. I enjoyed it when we left. 00:09:07.84\00:09:11.76 When you left. 00:09:11.79\00:09:13.06 Did you feel like the Holy Spirit, 00:09:13.09\00:09:14.43 like work with you in being able to get you 00:09:14.46\00:09:16.73 out of your comfort zone and doing that? 00:09:16.76\00:09:18.69 You can see that the people were really listening and-- 00:09:18.72\00:09:21.55 Yes. And I do it again. 00:09:21.58\00:09:23.28 I'd still be stressed and nervous 00:09:23.31\00:09:25.44 but I do it again because it was a blessing. 00:09:25.47\00:09:27.56 Praise God. 00:09:27.59\00:09:28.62 Yeah, it was-- got me out of the comfort zone. 00:09:28.65\00:09:33.01 They listened, they understood what the message was. 00:09:33.04\00:09:36.93 Then when we left or the last night 00:09:36.96\00:09:40.14 it was a good turnout, it was more turnout then-- 00:09:40.17\00:09:43.15 And they came over, they knew it was the last night 00:09:43.18\00:09:45.19 and because of the speakers were so loud, 00:09:45.22\00:09:47.10 they could here it at home also. 00:09:47.13\00:09:49.06 So they didn't have to come into the hall we had made. 00:09:49.09\00:09:54.39 So they really missed us. 00:09:54.42\00:09:56.65 I mean, they really enjoyed us and there was Adventist there 00:09:56.68\00:10:02.75 and there was another church there, 00:10:02.78\00:10:04.30 the Pentecostal. 00:10:04.33\00:10:07.06 And pastor was there each night listening. 00:10:07.09\00:10:09.93 Wonderful. So, yeah, it was good. 00:10:09.96\00:10:13.56 Judy, what were you doing there? 00:10:13.59\00:10:15.09 What was your responsibilities 00:10:15.12\00:10:16.33 when you were handed this sheet of paper? 00:10:16.36\00:10:18.71 I also had some sermons I had to give. 00:10:18.74\00:10:21.38 They had morning worship 00:10:21.41\00:10:22.85 and then they had a children's program in the afternoon. 00:10:22.88\00:10:25.08 So we had the stories from the picture roll 00:10:25.11\00:10:29.50 and taught the kids. 00:10:29.53\00:10:31.06 And the students also that came, 00:10:31.09\00:10:33.54 they did a great job with these children. 00:10:33.57\00:10:35.57 How many kids would show up 00:10:35.60\00:10:36.69 for some of the meetings here in generally 00:10:36.72\00:10:38.36 and how many different villages did you go to, you know? 00:10:38.39\00:10:41.49 We-- personally, the meetings were at one village. 00:10:41.52\00:10:45.10 I'd say about maybe 10 at the most students. 00:10:45.13\00:10:48.24 But during the day the young people, 00:10:48.27\00:10:50.91 the students from the center 00:10:50.94\00:10:53.17 and Joseph, the translator and the gospel outreach pastor 00:10:53.20\00:10:56.37 would go out to some of the outlying villages 00:10:56.40\00:10:58.35 on their motorcycles. 00:10:58.38\00:11:00.19 And so they were able to meet people 00:11:00.22\00:11:04.23 that couldn't come the distance to the church. 00:11:04.26\00:11:06.49 When we were at there in the village doing our-- 00:11:06.52\00:11:11.22 we call it probably the revival, 00:11:11.25\00:11:13.54 we figured it was revival, 00:11:13.57\00:11:15.88 there was other villages that were hours away 00:11:15.91\00:11:19.09 that would come up and they walked 2 hours, 00:11:19.12\00:11:22.08 you know, at the most to hear this 00:11:22.11\00:11:25.20 and they're all related so they'd sit in the evening 00:11:25.23\00:11:29.75 and then they have a place to stay at night 00:11:29.78\00:11:33.23 with one of the relatives. 00:11:33.26\00:11:35.85 And some people in the States wouldn't go to church, 00:11:35.88\00:11:37.99 you know, in the west 00:11:38.02\00:11:39.32 if they had to go walk 2 hours one way to get there. 00:11:39.35\00:11:43.06 What are we going to say, Judy? 00:11:43.09\00:11:44.46 Well, another part that was part of the program 00:11:44.49\00:11:46.62 was a health lectures 00:11:46.65\00:11:48.50 and the textbook for that was the book 00:11:48.53\00:11:51.09 that Sandra Horner had put together 00:11:51.12\00:11:53.20 on the Miracles of Water and The Eight Natural Doctors. 00:11:53.23\00:11:56.56 And so our talks each night, 00:11:56.59\00:11:58.29 each of the 10 nights featured one of those. 00:11:58.32\00:12:00.58 And one night I demonstrated hot and cold treatments using 00:12:00.61\00:12:04.04 Dennis as my patient 00:12:04.07\00:12:06.48 and the people were very interested. 00:12:06.51\00:12:08.27 These are new things for them. 00:12:08.30\00:12:09.90 The topics that we covered were new for them. 00:12:09.93\00:12:11.96 They have very limited knowledge of the Bible. 00:12:11.99\00:12:15.94 And so it was just a privilege. 00:12:15.97\00:12:18.37 We kept saying to ourselves, 00:12:18.40\00:12:19.70 even though it was difficult at times and challenges, 00:12:19.73\00:12:23.25 this is the highest privilege to be here. 00:12:23.28\00:12:25.79 Praise God. And we just-- 00:12:25.82\00:12:27.91 So then when the school was all - the field trip was all done, 00:12:27.94\00:12:31.21 you went back to the school 00:12:31.24\00:12:32.46 and you got to see the daily operations on 00:12:32.49\00:12:34.71 how our school there actually operates. 00:12:34.74\00:12:36.88 What was the general routine of the school 00:12:36.91\00:12:39.09 and, you know, what was the kind of schedule 00:12:39.12\00:12:41.34 and what was your impression of what they were doing there? 00:12:41.37\00:12:44.07 Well, we were impressed. 00:12:44.10\00:12:45.54 When we were there, we saw how she split up 00:12:45.57\00:12:49.11 and there was other missionaries there too 00:12:49.14\00:12:51.02 that were there just few weeks before us. 00:12:51.05\00:12:53.10 They had a short term, 6 months. 00:12:53.13\00:12:55.27 And it was Joshua and Emily Juresic 00:12:55.30\00:12:57.45 right there, the couple. 00:12:57.48\00:12:59.09 And they were dedicated also. 00:12:59.12\00:13:00.96 And he went to a different part. 00:13:00.99\00:13:03.41 The school split of in four groups. 00:13:03.44\00:13:07.65 We went to Nepal. 00:13:07.68\00:13:08.72 He took another group somewhere else. 00:13:08.75\00:13:10.51 So he was doing his fieldwork in a different area. 00:13:10.54\00:13:13.83 So when we all came back and then we got to know 00:13:13.86\00:13:16.89 each other pretty good, dedicated. 00:13:16.92\00:13:19.34 So he was part of the school system 00:13:19.37\00:13:22.76 and he taught Desire of Ages. 00:13:22.79\00:13:24.89 That the school starts at 6 o'clock in the morning, 00:13:24.92\00:13:29.07 six days a week and students learn in English. 00:13:29.10\00:13:34.56 The Desire of Ages, and then some would work in the kitchen, 00:13:34.59\00:13:38.04 some would work in the garden. 00:13:38.07\00:13:39.47 I mean, they all would rotate. Medical, sewing -- 00:13:39.50\00:13:44.44 I was there, they were going through the prophecies 00:13:44.47\00:13:46.13 of Daniel and Revelation with these kids. 00:13:46.16\00:13:48.06 We saw that they know more than many of us 00:13:48.09\00:13:51.19 here in the United States know in our church about the Bible 00:13:51.22\00:13:55.11 and they're able to share it. 00:13:55.14\00:13:57.66 They have many opportunities to do that, both on site, 00:13:57.69\00:14:00.92 they are given in the evening vespers program, 00:14:00.95\00:14:03.52 they take charge of that sometimes. 00:14:03.55\00:14:07.43 They also have The Desire of Ages class later in the day. 00:14:07.46\00:14:11.62 They cover-- the curriculum is based-- 00:14:11.65\00:14:14.47 it's an English language school. 00:14:14.50\00:14:16.95 And so they get a certificate at the end 00:14:16.98\00:14:19.64 and they have all the vocabulary lists 00:14:19.67\00:14:21.36 from any class 00:14:21.39\00:14:22.63 but their curriculum is the Bible, 00:14:22.66\00:14:24.79 the Spirit of Prophecy, hymn book 00:14:24.82\00:14:27.48 and their own native songs there. 00:14:27.51\00:14:30.66 And they just-- they are beautiful young men. 00:14:30.69\00:14:35.28 And they have liked do a lot of education 00:14:35.31\00:14:37.22 like in health and physiology 00:14:37.25\00:14:39.80 and some anatomy and things like that too there. 00:14:39.83\00:14:41.92 Yeah, the medical missionary training, 00:14:41.95\00:14:43.30 that's another piece of the curriculum. 00:14:43.33\00:14:44.73 Oh, yeah. Okay, yeah. 00:14:44.76\00:14:46.68 Well, that's-- that's where they called 00:14:46.71\00:14:48.79 a health education lifestyle center, 00:14:48.82\00:14:50.65 it's kind of a mouthful. 00:14:50.68\00:14:51.79 And when Joshua would take Sabbath afternoon, 00:14:51.82\00:14:57.92 he take couple of students up to the villagers, 00:14:57.95\00:15:00.42 trails all over through the villages and homes 00:15:00.45\00:15:05.29 and the door is wide open 00:15:05.32\00:15:06.95 when they talk to him about the health thing 00:15:06.98\00:15:09.18 and they have pamphlets, many, many pamphlets, 00:15:09.21\00:15:12.81 you know, smoke and the water, you know, hot and cold. 00:15:12.84\00:15:16.79 And they're all open to it. Praise God. 00:15:16.82\00:15:19.16 And of course and at the same time 00:15:19.19\00:15:21.68 the literature on Jesus too. 00:15:21.71\00:15:23.57 But at the school, Wednesday afternoon 00:15:23.60\00:15:29.46 two students would go on a motorcycle, 00:15:29.49\00:15:32.51 there's two churches down. 00:15:32.54\00:15:33.62 I don't know how far. 00:15:33.65\00:15:34.69 We never visit church, 00:15:34.72\00:15:36.40 down off the hill where the school is 00:15:36.43\00:15:38.53 and she'd had two students go down for Friday-- 00:15:38.56\00:15:43.58 Wednesday night meeting. 00:15:43.61\00:15:45.76 They love to play the guitar and sing. 00:15:45.79\00:15:47.88 So one would do the music 00:15:47.91\00:15:49.60 and the other one would give the Wednesday-- 00:15:49.63\00:15:52.02 Was it like prayer meeting Bible study? 00:15:52.05\00:15:53.57 Yeah, the whole Bible study. 00:15:53.60\00:15:55.46 They come up Thursday morning, do their school, 00:15:55.49\00:15:58.47 Friday afternoon the same two will go to the same church 00:15:58.50\00:16:03.25 and do Friday vespers and Sabbath sermon. 00:16:03.28\00:16:06.75 Wow. So that's those two. 00:16:06.78\00:16:08.48 Then the next Wednesday 00:16:08.51\00:16:09.85 there will be two other students 00:16:09.88\00:16:11.43 who would go to the other church 00:16:11.46\00:16:13.55 and it just rotates continuously. 00:16:13.58\00:16:16.34 So you two got-- did you meet Joseph 00:16:16.37\00:16:18.90 while you were there? 00:16:18.93\00:16:20.00 And he's just recently I think, translated the book, 00:16:20.03\00:16:23.71 the book Great Controversy. 00:16:23.74\00:16:25.52 He is so dedicated and just a wonderful influence 00:16:25.55\00:16:29.62 there at the school and in the villages 00:16:29.65\00:16:31.80 when we were preaching and teaching, 00:16:31.83\00:16:33.91 he takes real ownership for it. 00:16:33.94\00:16:37.10 And he is a product of the training center 00:16:37.13\00:16:41.17 from years ago, 00:16:41.20\00:16:42.79 as well as Joshua, the tailor, the head tailor 00:16:42.82\00:16:46.38 that made my outfit here. 00:16:46.41\00:16:47.58 Well, talk about the tailoring program little bit. 00:16:47.61\00:16:49.62 That's something that some of our viewers 00:16:49.65\00:16:50.96 don't know anything about, 00:16:50.99\00:16:52.02 but we actually have 00:16:52.05\00:16:53.46 a practical training in school too 00:16:53.49\00:16:55.20 and tailoring is one of them. 00:16:55.23\00:16:56.43 So did you see them sewing? 00:16:56.46\00:16:58.24 Yes, the students have the-- 00:16:58.27\00:17:01.16 In fact we bought a little outfit 00:17:01.19\00:17:03.29 for our infant granddaughter from them. 00:17:03.32\00:17:06.77 And inside the top 00:17:06.80\00:17:08.54 and the pants had the name of the student 00:17:08.57\00:17:11.10 that had sewed that. 00:17:11.13\00:17:12.49 So your outfit was actually tailored by them? 00:17:12.52\00:17:15.16 This was by Joshua, the main tailor. 00:17:15.19\00:17:17.41 Oh, really? He do and it's top quality. 00:17:17.44\00:17:21.25 They made a shirt and pants for Dennis 00:17:21.28\00:17:23.45 and it would be in one of the highest stores 00:17:23.48\00:17:26.73 in our country, one of the top. 00:17:26.76\00:17:28.62 And so what are they doing with the goods at tailoring? 00:17:28.65\00:17:30.87 Do they have any kind of marketing going on? 00:17:30.90\00:17:33.04 Well, they are custom-made. 00:17:33.07\00:17:34.20 Our school started to approach them now, 00:17:34.23\00:17:37.82 neighbors and all that. 00:17:37.85\00:17:39.01 So he takes the measurements 00:17:39.04\00:17:40.71 and he sews them up for students at the school 00:17:40.74\00:17:44.66 and, so it's just-- I think there's four sewing machines 00:17:44.69\00:17:48.04 and it's staying busy. 00:17:48.07\00:17:50.07 Now we talked-- you talked to me 00:17:50.10\00:17:51.73 a little bit earlier about the landlord 00:17:51.76\00:17:54.09 and you talked about the silent witness of the school. 00:17:54.12\00:17:56.27 What exactly did you mean about that? 00:17:56.30\00:17:59.08 Well, it's on his property and he's a-- 00:17:59.11\00:18:03.46 Our school is actually 00:18:03.49\00:18:04.52 on a rented piece of property in-- 00:18:04.55\00:18:06.80 He's right next door. 00:18:06.83\00:18:08.23 The landlord lives right next door. 00:18:08.26\00:18:09.53 Yeah. Okay. 00:18:09.56\00:18:11.16 And they converted part of his place into the school 00:18:11.19\00:18:14.09 and it's big enough with all the students and-- 00:18:14.12\00:18:17.92 So he's a Hindu 00:18:17.95\00:18:19.69 and we're talking to his mom after a couple of weeks 00:18:19.72\00:18:24.19 and she was thrilled 00:18:24.22\00:18:25.39 that he allowed the school to be there 00:18:25.42\00:18:29.53 because he saw the students and Sandra and Terri, 00:18:29.56\00:18:36.85 how they live. 00:18:36.88\00:18:39.14 So by that he quit and she mentioned it, 00:18:39.17\00:18:43.85 quit swearing, quit chewing, smoking, beetle nut, 00:18:43.88\00:18:48.61 chewing beetle nut and his temper. 00:18:48.64\00:18:51.76 So... 00:18:51.79\00:18:52.93 It's like his anger, quit being so angry? 00:18:52.96\00:18:56.18 He just-- it was just observing the school. 00:18:56.21\00:18:59.60 That's interesting. 00:18:59.63\00:19:00.66 And tell him about the medical, the ambulance. 00:19:00.69\00:19:03.83 They would, unannounced an ambulance would come up 00:19:03.86\00:19:07.85 and bring one or more people up in the ambulance. 00:19:07.88\00:19:12.02 They had heard through different means 00:19:12.05\00:19:14.39 one of which was a funeral down in the village 00:19:14.42\00:19:16.98 that the center had attended to sing to them. 00:19:17.01\00:19:20.16 They had heard about that people can help them. 00:19:20.19\00:19:24.19 So they would come out, 00:19:24.22\00:19:25.32 and the students are trained in hot and cold treatment, 00:19:25.35\00:19:27.68 trained in massage. 00:19:27.71\00:19:29.21 And so one day when Dennis was there 00:19:29.24\00:19:34.64 they brought a man out and-- 00:19:34.67\00:19:37.58 Is this that when you-- there I think, 00:19:37.61\00:19:39.26 remember one time you told me about 00:19:39.29\00:19:41.09 he could barely walk, and he was all hunched over 00:19:41.12\00:19:43.05 and they brought him into the school 00:19:43.08\00:19:44.66 or something in the ambulance? 00:19:44.69\00:19:45.96 He was that way for 3 years. 00:19:45.99\00:19:47.68 He had a stroke and a lot of them have strokes 00:19:47.71\00:19:49.18 because of their health. 00:19:49.21\00:19:50.27 Now there's no water, beetle nuts, the stuff. 00:19:50.30\00:19:53.53 So they carried the man downstairs 00:19:53.56\00:19:57.59 where they would make a table, hot and cold, 00:19:57.62\00:20:00.16 lay him out and massage and hot and cold. 00:20:00.19\00:20:02.77 And I was upstairs and downstairs, 00:20:02.80\00:20:05.57 just checking out now and then 00:20:05.60\00:20:08.06 and probably about half way into it, 00:20:08.09\00:20:12.31 I saw him moving around on the table 00:20:12.34\00:20:14.61 and the students were telling him, 00:20:14.64\00:20:15.68 don't move around. 00:20:15.71\00:20:16.75 You know, he was getting excited, 00:20:16.78\00:20:17.94 he was moving around. 00:20:17.97\00:20:20.32 Probably an hour went by 00:20:20.35\00:20:22.62 and he like jumped out of the table, 00:20:22.65\00:20:25.68 standing up and he was thrilled to death. 00:20:25.71\00:20:27.69 This is first time in 3 years, just by hot and cold massage. 00:20:27.72\00:20:31.14 And there was-- 00:20:31.17\00:20:33.44 It's like he's come alive for something. 00:20:33.47\00:20:35.53 Yeah, And there was a picture roll there 00:20:35.56\00:20:37.75 and Jesus was there, 00:20:37.78\00:20:39.56 happen to be on the picture roll. 00:20:39.59\00:20:40.96 He went down and bowed down and stood up 00:20:40.99\00:20:46.02 and he comes bouncing up the steps to Sandra. 00:20:46.05\00:20:49.91 And he was going to kiss her feet 00:20:49.94\00:20:51.67 and Sandra goes, no, no, you know, this is Jesus' work, 00:20:51.70\00:20:54.73 you know, this is the work that-- just simple work. 00:20:54.76\00:20:57.37 Almost like a miraculous healing in a sense. 00:20:57.40\00:21:00.58 And then that's the opportunity because the people 00:21:00.61\00:21:04.21 that brought him up from the ambulance, 00:21:04.24\00:21:07.77 they were surprised too because, you know, 00:21:07.80\00:21:09.84 they were working with this guy for 3 years 00:21:09.87\00:21:11.87 at the hospital down the hill. 00:21:11.90\00:21:13.91 And here now this within an hour, 00:21:13.94\00:21:15.74 hour-and-a-half he's walking around. 00:21:15.77\00:21:18.42 So that was the opportunity to, you know, 00:21:18.45\00:21:20.61 to give the literature out on the health 00:21:20.64\00:21:23.36 and stuff like that. 00:21:23.39\00:21:24.43 But that was just, that was the last one, 00:21:24.46\00:21:26.44 but there was also a first one, 00:21:26.47\00:21:28.25 wasn't as you know as dramatic, 00:21:28.28\00:21:31.20 but just the hot and the cold and the message. 00:21:31.23\00:21:33.51 Isn't that interesting that the hospital 00:21:33.54\00:21:34.99 would send people up in the ambulance to our center? 00:21:35.02\00:21:39.17 Oh, before the time runs out, 00:21:39.20\00:21:40.52 let's talk about your trip to Darjeeling. 00:21:40.55\00:21:42.63 Just really quickly, 00:21:42.66\00:21:43.69 Darjeeling is a really famous city in North India. 00:21:43.72\00:21:46.04 It's kind of a tourist area. 00:21:46.07\00:21:47.50 They did a movie there called Darjeeling Express years ago, 00:21:47.53\00:21:50.35 it's kind of a historic tourist area. 00:21:50.38\00:21:52.98 But so you folks went up there for your anniversary, 00:21:53.01\00:21:55.61 what happened? 00:21:55.64\00:21:56.67 It started, we went to Mungpoo, where you had your church. 00:21:56.70\00:22:00.09 So they had this 5 day, 7 day Revelation seminar. 00:22:00.12\00:22:04.92 So then from there the group went back down to the school 00:22:04.95\00:22:08.65 and then Darjeeling was about half way, 00:22:08.68\00:22:11.35 so we went up there. 00:22:11.38\00:22:14.34 So Dennis had tried to get room at two other motels 00:22:14.37\00:22:18.89 and they just didn't seem to want to wait on him. 00:22:18.92\00:22:21.22 But then we had heard of this other-- 00:22:21.25\00:22:22.79 the best western place so we went there 00:22:22.82\00:22:25.42 and there was a really nice catered meal 00:22:25.45\00:22:30.20 that's part of your fee there, twice a day. 00:22:30.23\00:22:33.77 And as we-- 00:22:33.80\00:22:35.46 Lot of character for most of that area in North India. 00:22:35.49\00:22:37.80 Yes. Yes. 00:22:37.83\00:22:39.25 And as we had an experience there 00:22:39.28\00:22:40.78 we realized then how the Lord 00:22:40.81\00:22:42.27 just closed these other motels off 00:22:42.30\00:22:45.53 because he had a purpose for us being there. 00:22:45.56\00:22:48.00 And we would go there for our meals, 00:22:48.03\00:22:49.77 we were there I think 3 days and these young men, 00:22:49.80\00:22:53.72 the stewards would come and wait on us, 00:22:53.75\00:22:56.89 water or ask if we needed anything. 00:22:56.92\00:22:59.65 We would go up to the buffet to serve ourselves 00:22:59.68\00:23:01.71 but as we were nearing our close there, 00:23:01.74\00:23:04.64 being there both two young men came at different times 00:23:04.67\00:23:08.11 and said, are you a Christian? 00:23:08.14\00:23:09.57 Are you Christians? It's the waiters there. 00:23:09.60\00:23:11.92 Yes. 00:23:11.95\00:23:13.01 One is named Deep, 00:23:13.04\00:23:14.85 he's the shorter man in the pictures you'll see 00:23:14.88\00:23:17.13 and Sandeep is the other one. 00:23:17.16\00:23:19.43 And so we talked with them 00:23:19.46\00:23:20.86 and the taller man is a Christian. 00:23:20.89\00:23:23.68 And he told us, please do not forget me 00:23:23.71\00:23:25.66 when you go back to America. 00:23:25.69\00:23:26.86 Please pray for me. 00:23:26.89\00:23:28.24 And he's been trying to witness to his friend 00:23:28.27\00:23:30.52 Deep there, who is Hindu. 00:23:30.55\00:23:34.80 And so we gave them some of the literature 00:23:34.83\00:23:37.96 that we had brought that Sandra and Terri had developed, 00:23:37.99\00:23:41.24 that's in Nepali on different Bible topics 00:23:41.27\00:23:43.91 and medical missionary. 00:23:43.94\00:23:46.26 And then afterwards 00:23:46.29\00:23:47.64 when we went back to the center, 00:23:47.67\00:23:49.69 we had a copy of Steps to Christ 00:23:49.72\00:23:51.75 that Joseph had translated and The Great Controversy 00:23:51.78\00:23:55.08 that we later had sent by Joshua and Emily 00:23:55.11\00:23:58.83 back to Darjeeling to the acting pastor 00:23:58.86\00:24:02.27 to please take to them. 00:24:02.30\00:24:03.46 And he said he had done that. 00:24:03.49\00:24:04.63 So I think it's because we ate fruit 00:24:04.66\00:24:07.79 and maybe because we bowed our head for prayer 00:24:07.82\00:24:09.97 that they wondered if we were Christians. 00:24:10.00\00:24:12.17 Yeah. People are watching. 00:24:12.20\00:24:13.38 We never know about the silent witness of 00:24:13.41\00:24:15.63 how it can affect people. 00:24:15.66\00:24:18.69 Generally now that this was your first time 00:24:18.72\00:24:20.51 going to this project, 00:24:20.54\00:24:21.70 what was your impression with Sandra and Terri? 00:24:21.73\00:24:27.52 We were so inspired and blessed by them, 00:24:27.55\00:24:29.99 their dedication. 00:24:30.02\00:24:31.70 Sandra, I guess has been there 14 years I think in Nepal. 00:24:31.73\00:24:35.51 She speaks English with a Nepali accent. 00:24:35.54\00:24:38.86 There is a one particular sound that kind of go... 00:24:38.89\00:24:42.73 and she does that with someone of the English sounds 00:24:42.76\00:24:44.79 and when she is speaking English. 00:24:44.82\00:24:46.95 And they call her Sandra Miss, 00:24:46.98\00:24:51.78 and then they call Terri, who's been there, 00:24:51.81\00:24:53.98 I'm not sure how long, but at least 10 years. 00:24:54.01\00:24:55.74 She goes for 6 months each year, 00:24:55.77\00:24:58.60 and they call her mommy. 00:24:58.63\00:25:01.06 And just love both of them. 00:25:01.09\00:25:04.30 And their dedication, we would sit in 00:25:04.33\00:25:07.34 and watch some of the lectures that Terri would give. 00:25:07.37\00:25:12.68 It's just how they've dedicated their lives, it is-- 00:25:12.71\00:25:16.93 It's truly inspiring to us. 00:25:16.96\00:25:19.12 And Terri being 70 years old, 00:25:19.15\00:25:21.94 is not using the age not, you know, the excuse. 00:25:21.97\00:25:27.98 She's very healthy, 00:25:28.01\00:25:29.05 she can walk right along with the students, 00:25:29.08\00:25:32.68 up and down these mountains. 00:25:32.71\00:25:34.31 So we are very impressed with her dedication. 00:25:34.34\00:25:39.73 And the students love them, you know. 00:25:39.76\00:25:43.64 So you two going there kind of like, 00:25:43.67\00:25:45.47 we start out this program Outside Looking In, 00:25:45.50\00:25:47.66 you know, you're not Laymen Ministry missionaries, 00:25:47.69\00:25:49.58 you are people who just happen to want to go in that direction 00:25:49.61\00:25:52.18 and pop in and see what was happening. 00:25:52.21\00:25:54.64 What did you see the needs are for this project 00:25:54.67\00:25:58.67 and what they're doing up there? 00:25:58.70\00:26:00.15 Did you notice things that people 00:26:00.18\00:26:01.80 who are watching this program 00:26:01.83\00:26:02.90 might be interesting in trying to help? 00:26:02.93\00:26:06.82 I think they can use people coming to help in any way. 00:26:06.85\00:26:13.62 Most recently in the Ministry Magazine, 00:26:13.65\00:26:15.76 they actually have provided a list 00:26:15.79\00:26:17.34 of what could be helpful to them 00:26:17.37\00:26:19.08 and funds for Bible workers, 00:26:19.11\00:26:21.64 funds for churches in other locations. 00:26:21.67\00:26:24.91 In fact the one in Nepal that we were at, 00:26:24.94\00:26:27.42 they actually had put together a proposal to submit to Sandra 00:26:27.45\00:26:32.30 and then to the General Conference, 00:26:32.33\00:26:34.20 requesting a church. 00:26:34.23\00:26:35.38 And the GC called while we were there. 00:26:35.41\00:26:37.50 So we were privileged to be a part of that. 00:26:37.53\00:26:39.43 And we can build churches in Nepal for way, 00:26:39.46\00:26:42.24 way cheaper than in the west. 00:26:42.27\00:26:43.78 I think $1,500 to $2,000, 00:26:43.81\00:26:46.73 sometimes $2,500, depending on the location, 00:26:46.76\00:26:49.58 we can build a pretty nice little church 00:26:49.61\00:26:51.18 for new believers there. 00:26:51.21\00:26:52.96 Now, at the beginning of this program you said, 00:26:52.99\00:26:54.75 you're going to be going back. 00:26:54.78\00:26:56.13 Are you folks leaving pretty soon 00:26:56.16\00:26:57.67 to go some on another mission trip? 00:26:57.70\00:26:59.91 Yes, we are. 00:26:59.94\00:27:01.04 November 4th we will be flying out to other projects. 00:27:01.07\00:27:05.63 We will be gone till March 10th 00:27:05.66\00:27:09.83 and we definitely going to visit 00:27:09.86\00:27:12.33 and they expect us. 00:27:12.36\00:27:13.47 We've been communicating with them, 00:27:13.50\00:27:15.02 so we know when they're going to be there, 00:27:15.05\00:27:16.61 not out in the field. 00:27:16.64\00:27:18.24 And so we will be visiting them 00:27:18.27\00:27:21.47 and also Darjeeling and see the two- 00:27:21.50\00:27:24.50 Two waiters? Yeah, the two men that-- 00:27:24.53\00:27:27.11 Do little follow-up, long-distance follow up. 00:27:27.14\00:27:29.30 Yes. 00:27:29.33\00:27:30.36 I really appreciate you folks coming here 00:27:30.39\00:27:31.97 and sharing your experiences in going, 00:27:32.00\00:27:33.43 looking our project from the Outside Looking In. 00:27:33.46\00:27:36.16 And I just want to encourage our viewers, 00:27:36.19\00:27:38.11 if you would like to be part of this project 00:27:38.14\00:27:40.23 or be involved with this ministry in anyway 00:27:40.26\00:27:42.52 just contact us at Laymen Ministries, 00:27:42.55\00:27:44.30 that's 414 Zapada Road, St. Maries, Idaho 83861. 00:27:44.33\00:27:49.24 And you can email us or contact us 00:27:49.27\00:27:52.07 through our website at www.lmn.org. 00:27:52.10\00:27:56.81 Thank you, folks. 00:27:56.84\00:27:58.13
