While we're in Vanuatu, airstrip, 00:00:38.35\00:00:39.67 we want to show you our Medical Missionary 00:00:39.70\00:00:41.23 Aviation work, 00:00:41.26\00:00:42.29 as well as our work on the island of Gaua 00:00:42.32\00:00:44.39 with the church and church school. 00:00:44.42\00:00:45.96 Then we're going to take to you up 00:00:45.99\00:00:47.02 to the far remote part of Vanuatu 00:00:47.05\00:00:49.32 and what is referred to as the Vanuatu's Last Frontier. 00:00:49.35\00:00:51.99 Welcome to the Vanuatu's Last Frontier. 00:01:47.91\00:01:53.53 The Republic of the Vanuatu is an island nation 00:01:53.56\00:01:56.09 located in South Pacific Ocean along the volcanic ring of fire 00:01:56.12\00:01:59.76 about 1000 miles east of Northern Australia. 00:01:59.79\00:02:03.38 Vanuatu consists of 82 relatively 00:02:03.41\00:02:05.90 small island formed by volcanoes. 00:02:05.93\00:02:08.25 It's also very wet 00:02:08.28\00:02:09.63 and in one year it will rain about 93 inches 00:02:09.66\00:02:11.83 or as much as 160 inches in the Northern Islands. 00:02:11.86\00:02:17.00 There are about 221,000 people living in Vanuatu 00:02:17.03\00:02:20.40 but most of the area is rural 00:02:20.43\00:02:22.42 with the exception of several small towns 00:02:22.45\00:02:24.42 and of course the capital city of Port Villa. 00:02:24.45\00:02:27.71 In the 19th century Catholic and Protestant missionaries 00:02:27.74\00:02:30.82 arrived on these islands. 00:02:30.85\00:02:32.61 With Gods help we're working to bring 00:02:32.64\00:02:34.41 the Three Angels' Messages in the best interest 00:02:34.44\00:02:36.67 for this time to these islands 00:02:36.70\00:02:38.40 and we're happy to report many people are coming to Christ 00:02:38.43\00:02:41.78 and to a better understanding of God's character. 00:02:41.81\00:02:47.19 This is how most people get around 00:02:47.22\00:02:49.37 the capital of Port Villa 00:02:49.40\00:02:50.56 they use this little mini vans travel, 00:02:50.59\00:02:54.07 they're like taxis. 00:02:54.10\00:02:55.74 You went into the town you will notice 00:02:55.77\00:02:57.12 that there is a lot of tourists all over from Australia, 00:02:57.15\00:03:00.14 New Zealand and Asia. 00:03:00.17\00:03:02.11 They call it Port Villa 00:03:02.14\00:03:03.17 because it is the main port for the country 00:03:03.20\00:03:04.81 and lot of big ships including crew ships come in here 00:03:04.84\00:03:07.58 and they bring all the major commerce 00:03:07.61\00:03:09.49 for the city as far as like electronics 00:03:09.52\00:03:11.23 and hard goods into this port, 00:03:11.26\00:03:12.96 redistributed throughout the country. 00:03:12.99\00:03:14.65 Port Vila, the capital is the largest city in Vanuatu 00:03:18.04\00:03:21.75 and home to approximately 40,000 people. 00:03:21.78\00:03:26.13 Well, in Port Villa there was a cultural art festival 00:03:26.16\00:03:29.11 which included a parade of various natives 00:03:29.14\00:03:31.26 from different island provinces as they march down Main Street. 00:03:31.29\00:03:34.71 They dressed in their native and ceremonial garments 00:03:39.62\00:03:41.86 as they made their way out to the park 00:03:41.89\00:03:43.30 where the art festival is being held. 00:03:43.33\00:03:45.50 This was a very unique opportunity for us to see 00:03:45.53\00:03:47.79 the different tribes from the various islands 00:03:47.82\00:03:49.88 in one place at one time sporting their native dress 00:03:49.91\00:03:52.94 and practicing their cultural dances. 00:03:52.97\00:03:55.23 We're getting out to the airport right now 00:03:59.80\00:04:01.15 to finish up the 100 hourly on Mark's plane 00:04:01.18\00:04:04.09 and then we're gonna be flying out to Gaua 00:04:04.12\00:04:08.28 probably in the morning. 00:04:08.31\00:04:09.36 We've just finished up the 100 hourly 00:04:16.78\00:04:19.20 inspection on this plane 00:04:19.23\00:04:21.41 and it's always a good feeling 00:04:21.44\00:04:22.92 to get to the end of the 100 hours because-- 00:04:22.95\00:04:25.74 Engine oil really clean. 00:04:25.77\00:04:26.98 Yeah, it's clean, we've just changed the oil. 00:04:27.01\00:04:29.35 So, yeah, we-- 00:04:29.38\00:04:31.38 because we're working in such a remote place, 00:04:31.41\00:04:33.68 we're flying over water all the time, 00:04:33.71\00:04:35.18 we got to just keep this aircraft 00:04:35.21\00:04:37.68 in very good conditions, 00:04:37.71\00:04:38.74 so it's always a good feeling 00:04:38.77\00:04:40.46 to just have finished the maintenance. 00:04:40.49\00:04:42.52 Vanuatu have been very good to our stay. 00:04:42.55\00:04:44.81 They recognize that we're doing 00:04:44.84\00:04:45.98 charitable work in Northern Vanuatu 00:04:46.01\00:04:49.81 and so they allowing us to have 00:04:49.84\00:04:52.19 very good facilities here for maintenance 00:04:52.22\00:04:55.90 and the engineers are helping us with inspections, 00:04:55.93\00:05:01.01 so it's very, very helpful. 00:05:01.04\00:05:02.80 We feel so thankful that God has opened this opportunity. 00:05:02.83\00:05:07.41 So where we're going to go tomorrow? 00:05:07.44\00:05:09.19 Tomorrow we're heading up to Gaua to the banks, 00:05:09.22\00:05:12.95 which is remote Northern Vanuatu 00:05:12.98\00:05:16.27 where you get to see better what's happening out there. 00:05:16.30\00:05:19.30 The flight from Port Villa up to Gaua 00:05:42.11\00:05:44.22 in Northern Vanuatu takes about two-and-half hours 00:05:44.25\00:05:47.24 along the way we flew over 00:05:47.27\00:05:48.52 some of Vanuatu's smaller islands 00:05:48.55\00:05:50.80 having just left the civilization 00:05:50.83\00:05:52.59 of the city of Port Villa, 00:05:52.62\00:05:54.12 it's almost easy to forget 00:05:54.15\00:05:55.72 that we're flying into the jungles 00:05:55.75\00:05:57.36 of one of the most remote places in the world. 00:05:57.39\00:06:00.34 We're in Gaua. 00:06:24.28\00:06:25.64 After the flight Dr. Trimble's wife Naomi 00:06:25.67\00:06:28.14 and their daughter Kay greeted us at the airstrip. 00:06:28.17\00:06:31.17 After dropping of our bags 00:06:31.20\00:06:32.43 I headed out to the constructions site 00:06:32.46\00:06:33.89 to meet Scotty an Australian volunteer 00:06:33.92\00:06:35.83 who came out to help lay the foundation for the hangar. 00:06:35.86\00:06:39.30 As far as building this hangar is concerned 00:06:39.33\00:06:41.69 it's a, it's something that I don't have 00:06:41.72\00:06:45.38 much expertise in concreting that is, 00:06:45.41\00:06:48.81 but myself and couple of other guys Brett and Payda 00:06:48.84\00:06:54.40 we managed to sort out the firm work 00:06:54.43\00:06:56.68 and the sitting things at level and this place is land 00:06:56.71\00:07:00.28 when Dr. Mark brought it was quite up and down 00:07:00.31\00:07:03.68 and the guys got stuck in doing with shovels 00:07:03.71\00:07:08.26 and picks by hand 00:07:08.29\00:07:10.10 and they dug a great holes 00:07:10.13\00:07:12.51 in the hillside and spread it out 00:07:12.54\00:07:14.06 and they've actually managed to level the site 00:07:14.09\00:07:16.75 within four inches across by their own eye. 00:07:16.78\00:07:20.46 When we put the lights were on it, 00:07:20.49\00:07:22.06 the lights are level on it, it was only four inches out, 00:07:22.09\00:07:24.66 so it's quite awesome. 00:07:24.69\00:07:27.29 What really helped us was the guys would show up 00:07:27.32\00:07:30.39 and mixed the concrete and not like we do it at home, 00:07:30.42\00:07:33.91 but it's really back breaking work. 00:07:33.94\00:07:35.92 The water that they had to get for the cement 00:07:35.95\00:07:39.55 was brought in from about 20 minutes 00:07:39.58\00:07:42.12 boat ride down the island 00:07:42.15\00:07:43.64 because they just had a drought period 00:07:43.67\00:07:45.67 and there was not water nearby, 00:07:45.70\00:07:47.22 so they actually carried the water 00:07:47.25\00:07:49.25 by boat to a point nearby here 00:07:49.28\00:07:52.21 and then carried it by 20 laded containers up to the soil here 00:07:52.24\00:07:57.89 and I think the gravel some of the coral gravel too 00:07:57.92\00:08:01.69 and by boat and island truck which on the local shoulders. 00:08:01.72\00:08:08.26 I would wear out quite quickly, 00:08:08.29\00:08:10.85 but those guys just keep going all day, 00:08:10.88\00:08:13.56 and they just do it so well without a murmur or complaint 00:08:13.59\00:08:16.74 and they are such strong guys too. 00:08:16.77\00:08:19.97 We go to have it enclosed-- 00:08:20.00\00:08:21.89 But the hangar design is like semi-circle type of shape 00:08:21.92\00:08:27.07 where it's got curve roof 00:08:27.10\00:08:29.25 and the plan is to have the plane underneath 00:08:29.28\00:08:31.68 and our living quarters on the top. 00:08:31.71\00:08:33.88 One of the things I'm looking forward 00:08:33.91\00:08:35.43 to most of that moving into the hangar 00:08:35.46\00:08:38.68 we'll have a lot more space 00:08:38.71\00:08:40.74 and that will be really helpful especially in the kitchen 00:08:40.77\00:08:43.93 because at the moment our house is really tiny 00:08:43.96\00:08:46.67 and not a lot of space for anything, 00:08:46.70\00:08:48.97 so I think having more space 00:08:49.00\00:08:51.88 and just being able to have things more organized 00:08:51.91\00:08:54.45 will be really helpful. 00:08:54.48\00:08:56.73 Naomi has a focus passion for the children on Gaua 00:08:56.76\00:08:59.76 and is overseeing the school project since its inception. 00:08:59.79\00:09:02.76 The need for a school and a school building 00:09:02.79\00:09:04.76 was born out in the Sabbath school studies. 00:09:04.79\00:09:07.38 If a school program, 00:09:07.41\00:09:08.57 the children would benefit tremendously 00:09:08.60\00:09:10.47 from learning how to read and write, 00:09:10.50\00:09:12.38 study the Bible, learn English, 00:09:12.41\00:09:14.65 Math and basic problem solving skills 00:09:14.68\00:09:16.96 that will help them through their life. 00:09:16.99\00:09:18.99 In addition to basic school studies Naomi, Mark 00:09:19.02\00:09:21.93 and their daughter Kay have helped 00:09:21.96\00:09:23.17 to educate the people with the health message. 00:09:23.20\00:09:25.71 With the better understanding of how the body works, 00:09:25.74\00:09:28.53 the people are empowered with the ability to make 00:09:28.56\00:09:30.46 better decisions for themselves and their families. 00:09:30.49\00:09:34.22 Naomi spends long days at the school 00:09:34.25\00:09:36.14 working with the students and the teachers 00:09:36.17\00:09:37.97 and along with the hard work comes many rewarding moments. 00:09:38.00\00:09:41.66 I have a lot of rewarding moments 00:09:41.69\00:09:43.43 with the children in the school, 00:09:43.46\00:09:45.60 almost daily actually just seeing them learning 00:09:45.63\00:09:50.04 and appreciating and seeing lots turning on, 00:09:50.07\00:09:53.84 you know, in their minds since they learn new things, 00:09:53.87\00:09:56.02 that's really rewarding. 00:09:56.05\00:09:58.83 Another experience I had is working with the teachers 00:09:58.86\00:10:02.09 and doing some teacher training 00:10:02.12\00:10:03.84 and encouraging the teachers and seeing them grow in their, 00:10:03.87\00:10:08.74 not just in their methods of teaching, 00:10:08.77\00:10:11.16 but in their spiritual experience too, 00:10:11.19\00:10:12.97 that's been really rewarding. 00:10:13.00\00:10:14.29 Mark, Naomi and Kay, 00:10:14.32\00:10:16.63 their ministry is making quite an impact, 00:10:16.66\00:10:19.32 the difference that they are making 00:10:19.35\00:10:21.34 on this island are incredible, saving lives 00:10:21.37\00:10:24.39 and even the basic medical needs 00:10:24.42\00:10:27.16 are being met excellently by their ministry. 00:10:27.19\00:10:31.64 One thing we found with medical ministry 00:10:31.67\00:10:33.98 it really is what the Lord made it 00:10:34.01\00:10:38.03 and that is-- it's Christ method 00:10:38.06\00:10:40.60 and Jesus mingle with people as one desire to be good. 00:10:40.63\00:10:44.10 He sympathized with them, he ministered to their needs, 00:10:44.13\00:10:46.42 he won their confidence and then he said follow me 00:10:46.45\00:10:49.71 and waving medical ministry into this project 00:10:49.74\00:10:53.82 is helping us to reach people 00:10:53.85\00:10:57.64 and helping us to make friends and bond with people in the way 00:10:57.67\00:11:02.66 that would not be possible in any other way. 00:11:02.69\00:11:04.54 So Hemia, he come also in when meditating. Yes. 00:11:07.58\00:11:14.20 Had a very deep cut into his hand here. 00:11:14.23\00:11:17.89 And so today is the day 00:11:17.92\00:11:19.89 we're going to pull those stitches out. 00:11:19.92\00:11:22.14 Detect the cyst in this area so. 00:11:22.17\00:11:25.09 In this case we gonna do the wait and see thing again. 00:11:25.12\00:11:29.05 We don't have a lot of test available to us 00:11:29.08\00:11:32.31 and so sometimes when something is just developing 00:11:32.34\00:11:34.82 its not clear exactly what it is 00:11:34.85\00:11:36.31 so, I think we'll observe him 00:11:36.34\00:11:38.38 and in a weeks time we'll review him. 00:11:38.41\00:11:42.02 We had an ectopic pregnancy case recently. 00:11:42.05\00:11:44.35 A lady presented with very severe abdominal pain. 00:11:44.38\00:11:48.15 As soon as I saw her I could see that 00:11:48.18\00:11:49.84 she was going into shock, internal bleeding 00:11:49.87\00:11:53.22 and so we took her to our clinic 00:11:53.25\00:11:55.10 which was next door 00:11:55.13\00:11:56.82 and so we were planning to leave it for the following day 00:11:56.85\00:12:00.30 and back here I had taken her to center 00:12:00.33\00:12:02.15 I was going to fly her to center, 00:12:02.18\00:12:03.93 but the following day the rain was very bad 00:12:03.96\00:12:06.68 and so we had to just go ahead 00:12:06.71\00:12:08.54 with the operation with the concern of the family. 00:12:08.57\00:12:12.33 It was kind of scary moment 00:12:12.36\00:12:13.99 because we didn't have the ultrasound diagnosis, 00:12:14.02\00:12:17.39 we didn't have the ultrasound with us at the time 00:12:17.42\00:12:19.97 beginning the operation, 00:12:20.00\00:12:21.07 her blood pressure was unrecognizably low, 00:12:21.10\00:12:23.95 her pulse rate was 168 plus, 00:12:23.98\00:12:26.70 her saturation was down below 70 00:12:26.73\00:12:30.09 and so she was in severe shock, 00:12:30.12\00:12:33.09 but her life was in danger and so we have to operate. 00:12:33.12\00:12:37.48 Since we opened up, lots of blood came out 00:12:37.51\00:12:39.79 and we were able to locate the small embryo 00:12:39.82\00:12:44.24 and close off the tube that was ruptured. 00:12:44.27\00:12:49.90 As soon as we did that her blood pressure stabilized 00:12:49.93\00:12:52.61 and praised the Lord she recovered 00:12:52.64\00:12:54.55 without any complications. 00:12:54.58\00:12:56.03 We just believe that God especially 00:12:56.06\00:12:58.16 intervened in this case 00:12:58.19\00:12:59.22 because this lady was very, very ill 00:12:59.25\00:13:03.44 and this was the first laparotomy case in this area 00:13:03.47\00:13:08.44 and so it was kind of high impact procedure 00:13:08.47\00:13:12.73 which had a lot of influence 00:13:12.76\00:13:16.17 in promoting the Lord's work in this area, 00:13:16.20\00:13:18.59 so anyway we'll believe that God is good 00:13:18.62\00:13:21.19 and he is helping in what we're doing. 00:13:21.22\00:13:24.04 (Foreign language) 00:13:24.07\00:13:26.91 Named him Lucifer, 00:13:26.94\00:13:28.31 I mean the light bearer one man will be holding like, 00:13:28.34\00:13:31.00 it was no I think he was listening. 00:13:31.03\00:13:34.48 She had a incident in her life recently 00:13:34.51\00:13:36.74 which is making her search in the spiritual things 00:13:36.77\00:13:40.64 her and her husband. 00:13:40.67\00:13:43.84 She gave birth to a deformed baby 00:13:43.87\00:13:48.09 and the baby died 00:13:48.12\00:13:50.12 and so now she has got a lot of questions 00:13:50.15\00:13:52.06 because in their culture they believe that 00:13:52.09\00:13:54.30 the devil was involved in making this baby 00:13:54.33\00:13:57.39 and so we're going to talk to her 00:13:57.42\00:13:59.30 about what the Bible says about devils and angels, etc 00:13:59.33\00:14:03.99 and see if we can help her through this thing. 00:14:04.02\00:14:07.34 One angel we based seen a big one, 00:14:07.37\00:14:09.98 I've seen a big one. 00:14:10.01\00:14:11.60 Patients don't pay me money for treatments or consultations, 00:14:11.63\00:14:17.97 but they do give me food 00:14:18.00\00:14:19.52 and so we have a lot of really tasty 00:14:19.55\00:14:24.36 tropical foods and vegetables, 00:14:24.39\00:14:26.88 regularly coming to us for in return 00:14:26.91\00:14:30.28 for the treatments that we provide. 00:14:30.31\00:14:34.19 Look at that. 00:14:34.22\00:14:35.45 (Foreign language) 00:14:39.48\00:14:42.00 It actually helps the relationships 00:14:42.03\00:14:43.34 with my patients to make sure that they understand this 00:14:43.37\00:14:46.05 some cost is being involved in their care 00:14:46.08\00:14:49.11 and so I make sure that they do bring me some food 00:14:49.14\00:14:52.92 and I just let them know, I appreciate that food 00:14:52.95\00:14:56.81 and I know they appreciate the care that I'm providing. 00:14:56.84\00:14:59.69 There we've a load of sweet potatoes. 00:14:59.72\00:15:03.43 Okay, thank you. Thank you. 00:15:03.46\00:15:05.94 On Sabbath I talked about 00:15:05.97\00:15:07.00 our accepting God's call in our lives 00:15:07.03\00:15:09.30 and use Dr. Marks influence on the island and Rosy 00:15:09.33\00:15:12.30 who almost died of cerebral malaria as an example. 00:15:12.33\00:15:15.95 It was easy to see how important it is for all of us 00:15:15.98\00:15:18.75 to follow God's calling. 00:15:18.78\00:15:20.67 As Dr. Mark and his family did 00:15:20.70\00:15:22.24 when they decided to become missionaries. 00:15:22.27\00:15:24.29 How many people you received help from Dr. Mark? 00:15:24.32\00:15:28.14 Raise your hands. 00:15:28.17\00:15:31.01 If Dr. Mark would have not accepted the call, 00:15:31.04\00:15:33.50 you would not got any help. 00:15:33.53\00:15:34.88 She would be dead. It's same for all of you. 00:15:38.56\00:15:43.07 That we're gonna need everyone. 00:15:43.10\00:15:44.38 God is calling you. God is up calling you. 00:15:44.41\00:15:47.14 And you came through Lord, will you give your life to God, 00:15:47.17\00:15:50.52 He uses you in front of other people. 00:15:50.55\00:15:54.00 They involved in mission field has really been 00:15:54.03\00:15:56.44 an encouragement to me especially my spiritual life, 00:15:56.47\00:15:58.81 I've gained the lot of blessing 00:15:58.84\00:16:00.44 and its being, I believe are real blessing to made it big, 00:16:00.47\00:16:05.24 to go out in the mission field. 00:16:05.27\00:16:07.22 While I'd been here in Vanuatu for the last more than a year 00:16:07.25\00:16:11.46 I've been helping out teaching other teens. 00:16:11.49\00:16:14.01 There's been many challenge teaching them, 00:16:14.04\00:16:16.82 but it's been a real blessing as well as seeing them 00:16:16.85\00:16:20.61 changing some of their ways, they speak Bislama. 00:16:20.64\00:16:24.97 (Foreign language) 00:16:25.00\00:16:27.59 I've tried to learn some of the local languages, 00:16:31.44\00:16:34.71 they are little bit more challenging 00:16:34.74\00:16:35.98 but I'm learning, so I spend a lot of time 00:16:36.01\00:16:40.03 with lot of the young people around here, 00:16:40.06\00:16:42.38 and trying to be good example to them 00:16:42.41\00:16:44.06 being an example to them 00:16:44.09\00:16:45.26 what they can do when they obey. 00:16:45.29\00:16:48.02 Right now there are many young people 00:16:48.05\00:16:49.57 being used by God all over the world 00:16:49.60\00:16:51.33 with Laymen Ministries. 00:16:51.36\00:16:52.75 They each are having a powerful influence 00:16:52.78\00:16:55.22 in the lives of others, 00:16:55.25\00:16:56.49 the one thing that I always hear from the missionaries 00:16:56.52\00:16:59.14 when they return back home 00:16:59.17\00:17:00.62 is how immeasurably the experience 00:17:00.65\00:17:02.88 strengthened their relationship with God 00:17:02.91\00:17:05.52 and change them forever. 00:17:05.55\00:17:07.58 If I had an opportunity to share with young people, 00:17:07.61\00:17:09.80 I just want to encourage them to go ahead with 00:17:09.83\00:17:12.84 if any opportunity they have to be a missionary 00:17:12.87\00:17:15.09 whether being there in their neighborhood 00:17:15.12\00:17:17.10 or whether it be going overseas or whatever they may have 00:17:17.13\00:17:20.79 whatever opportunities they have, 00:17:20.82\00:17:22.18 they still use their opportunities 00:17:22.21\00:17:23.89 to be a missionary. 00:17:23.92\00:17:27.60 I feel being involved in mission field 00:17:27.63\00:17:31.54 for any period of time whether it be shorter 00:17:31.57\00:17:33.80 or particularly a longer period of time 00:17:33.83\00:17:35.46 it would be the good blessings to any young person 00:17:35.49\00:17:37.98 because they could gain so much, 00:17:38.01\00:17:40.33 some many blessings in the spiritual act. 00:17:40.36\00:17:42.48 Of course young people face many challenges 00:17:42.51\00:17:45.05 but it's also as you learn so much working for other people 00:17:45.08\00:17:49.65 and helping other people that are in need. 00:17:49.68\00:17:51.41 When I first arrived in Vanuatu, 00:18:21.27\00:18:23.45 Mark took me to see the trusses in Port Villa 00:18:23.48\00:18:25.76 as they were finishing up the construction. 00:18:25.79\00:18:27.73 Having seen for myself how big and heavy they are, 00:18:27.76\00:18:30.46 it was easy to see why shipping them up 00:18:30.49\00:18:32.27 to Gaua was really a big challenge. 00:18:32.30\00:18:34.90 So these are the trusses. 00:18:34.93\00:18:36.16 Yeah, these are the trusses that have taken 00:18:36.19\00:18:37.73 a bit too long to get together. 00:18:37.76\00:18:39.77 When were they supposed to actually get there? 00:18:39.80\00:18:41.41 Supposed to be about three or four weeks ago. 00:18:41.44\00:18:43.45 Oh, man. 00:18:43.48\00:18:44.53 So this is like one half of truss, 00:18:44.56\00:18:46.09 to clear this make my one part of the roof, 00:18:46.12\00:18:48.50 this is half a truss, we'll be putting them together 00:18:48.53\00:18:53.27 two of these part circles here 00:18:53.30\00:18:56.89 to make a semi spherical building. 00:18:56.92\00:19:00.55 It's going to be six trusses all together 00:19:00.58\00:19:03.16 and as you see they are pretty well built. 00:19:03.19\00:19:07.05 How you are going to get these up to Gaua, I mean. 00:19:07.08\00:19:09.77 We're going to-- that's our big headache, 00:19:09.80\00:19:12.83 we got ships that go up their way 00:19:12.86\00:19:14.69 but it's not very regular 00:19:14.72\00:19:16.42 so we just have to get the right timing. 00:19:16.45\00:19:18.69 In the meantime after flying back to Gaua, 00:19:18.72\00:19:21.06 we were planning a two day trip 00:19:21.09\00:19:22.40 after the last Frontier of Vanuatu. 00:19:22.43\00:19:25.24 In this case Dr. Mark had been 00:19:25.27\00:19:26.89 in the beginning stages of befriending 00:19:26.92\00:19:28.71 a group of Niuean people on the Island 00:19:28.74\00:19:30.49 of Toga into a province. 00:19:30.52\00:19:32.61 So will they tight fit? 00:19:32.64\00:19:34.06 I don't know if I'll be able to do this, 00:19:34.09\00:19:36.78 we were getting ready to fly up to the Torres province, 00:19:36.81\00:19:39.57 the upper Torres province islands. 00:19:39.60\00:19:41.40 The reason that Mark he only chose Gaua 00:19:41.43\00:19:43.38 is because this is kind of like the gateway 00:19:43.41\00:19:45.07 to the last frontier of Vanuatu 00:19:45.10\00:19:47.14 and then from here we can go up to these unreached area 00:19:47.17\00:19:49.94 up in the northern banks chorus us group 00:19:49.97\00:19:52.66 that's we're going to fly to right now 00:19:52.69\00:19:54.02 with all of this stuff. 00:19:54.05\00:19:56.36 Dr. Mark speaks very highly of these people, 00:19:56.39\00:19:58.66 their friendliness and remarkable hospitality. 00:19:58.69\00:20:01.67 Almost five gallons of gasoline set next to me there.. 00:20:01.70\00:20:04.22 Thankfully, we were able to pack a lot of supplies 00:20:08.41\00:20:10.71 in the plane such as chainsaw, 00:20:10.74\00:20:13.06 extra gasoline, medical equipment, 00:20:13.09\00:20:15.57 video gear bags and well I have to do it 00:20:15.60\00:20:18.57 whatever room was left over 00:20:18.60\00:20:19.73 for the two- and-half hour flight.. 00:20:19.76\00:20:21.55 For the last year the people on Toga have been 00:20:54.22\00:20:56.59 carving out a grass airstrip 00:20:56.62\00:20:58.50 right in the middle of this jungle. 00:20:58.53\00:21:00.75 They're not finished yet 00:21:00.78\00:21:01.81 so we'll have to land on a nearby island of Lo 00:21:01.84\00:21:05.07 and take a dangerous two hour 00:21:05.10\00:21:06.99 boat ride to Toga in the morning. 00:21:07.02\00:21:10.05 In Vanuatu you'll see huge bats flying around the dusk, 00:21:10.08\00:21:13.41 the local people call them flying foxes or flying devils 00:21:13.44\00:21:17.09 because they make a high pitch shrill 00:21:17.12\00:21:19.15 when they get aggressive though most of the times 00:21:19.18\00:21:21.57 they just love to eat mangoes. 00:21:21.60\00:21:23.42 Just landed here in the Island of Lo on the Torres province. 00:21:27.73\00:21:31.83 We are going to staying here tonight an then tomorrow 00:21:31.86\00:21:34.56 we are going to load up all this stuff, 00:21:34.59\00:21:36.26 we are going to go over to the Island of Toga 00:21:36.29\00:21:38.30 on a small boat, 00:21:38.33\00:21:39.67 so we got to pack all our gear into these barrels 00:21:39.70\00:21:42.20 and we are hoping for good weather tomorrow 00:21:42.23\00:21:43.79 and they said that there is the chance 00:21:43.82\00:21:45.66 the water is gonna be pretty rough. 00:21:45.69\00:21:47.11 All coconut, fantastic. 00:22:20.72\00:22:23.16 Upon arriving in Toga the locals were incredibly generous, 00:22:23.19\00:22:26.79 they had prepared an assortment of food for us 00:22:26.82\00:22:29.28 including papaya, pineapple, bananas and coconuts. 00:22:29.31\00:22:33.96 We also attracted quite a crowd. 00:22:33.99\00:22:37.48 We've got here in the boat just a little while ago 00:22:37.51\00:22:39.27 and we just finished having a quick snack 00:22:39.30\00:22:41.07 that they provided for us, greeted us very graciously. 00:22:41.10\00:22:43.69 We're going to walk up really quick here, 00:22:43.72\00:22:44.99 it's about half hour to 45 minutes up to 00:22:45.02\00:22:47.30 where they are carving an airstrip. 00:22:47.33\00:22:48.62 This island is extremely isolated 00:22:48.65\00:22:50.31 because it's so hard to get to it, 00:22:50.34\00:22:51.70 it's surrounded by a lot of big cliffs and huge waves 00:22:51.73\00:22:54.43 and if they quickly finish this airstrip 00:22:54.46\00:22:56.29 this will be really great way for Dr. Mark 00:22:56.32\00:22:58.68 and other people to be able to come here and visit. 00:22:58.71\00:23:01.16 This is one of the last frontiers 00:23:01.19\00:23:02.58 here in Northern Torres Banks Island group. 00:23:02.61\00:23:07.71 One of the main purposes for this visit to Toga Island 00:23:07.74\00:23:10.56 was to encourage the people on the work on this airstrip 00:23:10.59\00:23:13.41 as well as getting Dr. Mark an opportunity to survey 00:23:13.44\00:23:16.14 the progress made since his last visit. 00:23:16.17\00:23:18.62 We also brought a chainsaw to help cut up 00:23:18.65\00:23:20.75 and remove some of the larger trees 00:23:20.78\00:23:22.86 otherwise this huge clearing you see here 00:23:22.89\00:23:25.40 has been done by hand with axes 00:23:25.43\00:23:27.62 and simple bush knifes. 00:23:27.65\00:23:29.82 We've only got to 300 meters over the next few months, 00:23:29.85\00:23:33.42 we're hoping that will be extended to 450 meters 00:23:33.45\00:23:36.82 and we're hoping in April 00:23:36.85\00:23:37.96 we are going to have an opening ceremony 00:23:37.99\00:23:39.89 and land more aircraft on Toga Island, 00:23:39.92\00:23:44.61 that will be history. 00:23:44.64\00:23:49.01 Right here and like in this situation 00:23:49.04\00:23:50.84 we've people that are nationals 00:23:50.87\00:23:52.92 that are living here that are donating 00:23:52.95\00:23:54.26 like land for this airstrip 00:23:54.29\00:23:55.67 and they have also given their time, 00:23:55.70\00:23:58.23 tremendous amount of cumulative work 00:23:58.26\00:23:59.86 has been involved in working on this airstrip. 00:23:59.89\00:24:02.97 I just want to thank all the viewers 00:24:03.00\00:24:04.24 that have donated to various projects 00:24:04.27\00:24:05.95 and just remember there's people right here 00:24:05.98\00:24:07.61 that are also sacrificing to help these things happen. 00:24:07.64\00:24:12.36 We had a really enjoyable time that night talking 00:24:12.39\00:24:14.99 and laughing with the people on Toga, 00:24:15.02\00:24:17.12 bonding with these dear people helps them to trust us 00:24:17.15\00:24:20.24 and to be open to the precious truths we bear. 00:24:20.27\00:24:23.85 The next morning Dr. Mark held the medical clinic 00:24:23.88\00:24:26.35 for the people on Toga. 00:24:26.38\00:24:27.92 Many of the people have problems with their teeth 00:24:27.95\00:24:30.18 which is the real common problem throughout the islands. 00:24:30.21\00:24:33.17 Dr. Mark is sometimes left with 00:24:33.20\00:24:35.17 no other option than pulling them. 00:24:35.20\00:24:37.43 We've very basic sterilization systems here in Vanuatu, 00:24:37.46\00:24:41.71 but we are going to make the best with what we have got. 00:24:41.74\00:24:44.13 He tries to be cautious 00:24:44.16\00:24:45.38 and will only pull a tooth as a last resort. 00:24:45.41\00:24:48.12 Some of the people think that 00:24:48.15\00:24:49.35 the only way to remove the pain 00:24:49.38\00:24:51.21 is to pull the tooth 00:24:51.24\00:24:52.27 when the two may not even be related. 00:24:52.30\00:24:54.30 So there's the wisdom tooth 00:24:54.33\00:24:55.36 with all three roots have come out, 00:24:55.39\00:24:59.05 so mission accomplished. 00:24:59.08\00:25:02.53 We flew over this island 00:25:02.56\00:25:03.88 and drop the box with some gloves, 00:25:03.91\00:25:05.69 medicines and other materials 00:25:05.72\00:25:07.39 to assist and encourage these people 00:25:07.42\00:25:09.45 to continue clearing the land for their airstrip. 00:25:09.48\00:25:14.92 In just a couple of years God has miraculously provided 00:25:14.95\00:25:18.11 an incredible Maule bush plane 00:25:18.14\00:25:20.12 and now even runways on multiple islands. 00:25:20.15\00:25:23.29 When laboring for the cause of God, 00:25:23.32\00:25:25.38 there are always difficulties and challenges 00:25:25.41\00:25:27.97 but faith and persistence goes a long way 00:25:28.00\00:25:30.99 and such is the case with the trusses for the hangar 00:25:31.02\00:25:33.42 when after many delays and challenges 00:25:33.45\00:25:35.67 they finally arrived on Gaua. 00:25:35.70\00:25:37.83 I would highly recommend it 00:26:03.39\00:26:05.10 that the people give mission work 00:26:05.13\00:26:08.73 like this an opportunity, 00:26:08.76\00:26:10.35 make some time in their lives because it's a great experience, 00:26:10.38\00:26:13.62 it's something that you will remember 00:26:13.65\00:26:15.52 for the rest of your life. 00:26:15.55\00:26:16.83 When speaking about his second coming 00:26:36.47\00:26:38.51 Jesus said this gospel of the kingdom 00:26:38.54\00:26:41.10 shall be preached in all the world 00:26:41.13\00:26:42.72 for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come. 00:26:42.75\00:26:46.66 Having just left the last frontier of Vanuatu 00:26:46.69\00:26:49.70 and one of the most remote areas in the world 00:26:49.73\00:26:52.20 and one of the last places 00:26:52.23\00:26:53.72 to hear the Three Angels' Messages. 00:26:53.75\00:26:55.34 It is the sobering proof 00:26:55.37\00:26:57.60 that we are living in the last stages. 00:26:57.63\00:26:59.64 Now it's the time to cry out this soul saving truths 00:26:59.67\00:27:02.86 and prepare the world to meet its creator. 00:27:02.89\00:27:05.91 This program has been shortened for television. 00:28:05.41\00:28:07.91 To receive your free copy of the full
