This is the first part of March in Northern Idaho 00:00:29.57\00:00:32.09 and they say that this has something 00:00:32.12\00:00:33.43 to do with global warming. 00:00:33.46\00:00:34.81 Anyhow, this is the time of the year 00:00:34.84\00:00:36.17 that we go over to the Philippines 00:00:36.20\00:00:37.41 so we're gonna go from this to this. 00:00:37.44\00:00:39.89 It's hot and sweltering here in the Philippines. 00:00:39.92\00:00:42.21 Over, 95 degrees today, high humidity. 00:00:42.24\00:00:45.28 Why we are here in the Philippines? 00:00:45.31\00:00:46.48 We're gonna take you over to Sablayan and show you 00:00:46.51\00:00:48.28 the Prison Ministry that's going on. 00:00:48.31\00:00:49.89 We're gonna take you out to the remote villages 00:00:49.92\00:00:52.27 and show you the work and the missionaries 00:00:52.30\00:00:53.80 and the student missionaries are doing out there. 00:00:53.83\00:00:55.45 Manila is the capital of the Philippines. 00:01:44.05\00:01:46.18 The Philippines is the 12th most populated country 00:01:46.21\00:01:48.69 in the whole world with over 90 million people. 00:01:48.72\00:01:51.13 You know what that means, that means crowded. 00:01:51.16\00:01:55.93 This is Joe and Ellen Beazley 00:01:55.96\00:01:57.04 they came over to Philippines here in December. 00:01:57.07\00:01:59.75 Right now we're, we just met him here last night. 00:01:59.78\00:02:01.73 We're gonna hop on this bus. 00:02:01.76\00:02:02.87 We're gonna head over to the port of Batangus 00:02:02.90\00:02:05.24 and cross over to island of Mindoro. 00:02:05.27\00:02:08.54 And go see our mission house there. 00:02:08.57\00:02:10.41 So you guys are ready to go? 00:02:10.44\00:02:11.79 We're ready. Okay, let's go. 00:02:11.82\00:02:13.11 On reaching the Batangas we've to check through security 00:02:16.55\00:02:19.17 before boarding the ferry 00:02:19.20\00:02:20.30 to cross over to the Port of Abra. 00:02:20.33\00:02:22.57 Ferry schedules can vary and prolong with bad weather. 00:02:22.60\00:02:25.33 Well, sometimes you can get stuck at the port for hours. 00:02:25.36\00:02:28.75 We're gonna take this ferry over across to the port of Abra 00:02:28.78\00:02:32.26 and then we're gonna take a jeep or truck 00:02:32.29\00:02:33.99 and cross over to the town of Mamburao 00:02:34.02\00:02:35.80 where we have our mission house. 00:02:35.83\00:02:37.18 The Philippines is made up of 7,107 islands. 00:02:37.21\00:02:40.82 Some of the islands are huge landmasses 00:02:40.85\00:02:42.68 where other ones are just not even inhabitable 00:02:42.71\00:02:44.70 because they are so small. 00:02:44.73\00:02:46.64 The very windy day here on the ferry. 00:02:46.67\00:02:48.69 We're looking forward to getting over 00:02:48.72\00:02:49.75 to our mission house this afternoon 00:02:49.78\00:02:51.25 probably, around 2 o'clock. 00:02:51.28\00:02:52.31 The next step is to find a taxi 00:02:56.66\00:02:58.27 which in most cases is a small minivan. 00:02:58.30\00:03:01.86 The distance to our mission house 00:03:01.89\00:03:03.21 is about 30 kilometers and that's 19 miles. 00:03:03.24\00:03:06.19 It takes around 45 minutes. 00:03:06.22\00:03:08.58 Soon we arrive at Laymen Ministries mission house 00:03:08.61\00:03:10.92 located outside the town of Mamburao. 00:03:10.95\00:03:13.85 Mamburao was a medium sized town 00:03:13.88\00:03:15.61 that has a lot of hustle and bustle and well noise 00:03:15.64\00:03:19.01 because of the constant driven of motorcycles and jeepneys. 00:03:19.04\00:03:21.98 The open market is a beehive of activities. 00:03:22.01\00:03:24.91 You can find an interesting assortment 00:03:24.94\00:03:26.66 of such things as fresh fruit, 00:03:26.69\00:03:28.56 a lot of different types of fish, and well, meat. 00:03:28.59\00:03:32.35 The mission house is full of activities. 00:03:32.38\00:03:34.82 It's used as our main business office, 00:03:34.85\00:03:37.11 also a temporary high school 00:03:37.14\00:03:38.60 for our graduate students from the villages, 00:03:38.63\00:03:40.78 then we also hold our training seminars 00:03:40.81\00:03:42.86 here for all of the missionaries. 00:03:42.89\00:03:44.51 During the school hours Ellen Beazley helps 00:03:44.54\00:03:46.60 tutor our high schools students on laptop computers. 00:03:46.63\00:03:49.54 To fully appreciate this, you need to better understand 00:03:49.57\00:03:52.11 where these students came from. 00:03:52.14\00:03:53.58 These students are from a regional tribe called Ryans. 00:03:56.77\00:04:00.07 They refer to as Katutubo 00:04:00.10\00:04:01.77 which translated means native or indigenous. 00:04:01.80\00:04:05.00 The Ryan tribe 00:04:05.03\00:04:06.14 is one of the most primitive people groups in the world 00:04:06.17\00:04:08.82 living a semi-nomadic lifestyle 00:04:08.85\00:04:11.32 in the mountainous regions of this area. 00:04:11.35\00:04:14.39 They live in very simple crude homes 00:04:14.42\00:04:16.36 that change from month to month. 00:04:16.39\00:04:18.62 There're times they simply live out in the jungles 00:04:18.65\00:04:20.73 making the trees and the branches their home, 00:04:20.76\00:04:23.31 foraging food crops and other things to eat. 00:04:23.34\00:04:26.15 Diseases extremely prevalent among these people 00:04:26.18\00:04:29.23 as many do not understand basic hygiene or nutrition. 00:04:29.26\00:04:33.27 I will explain more to you in a little while 00:04:33.30\00:04:35.29 about what is created the change you see here 00:04:35.32\00:04:37.73 but it is truly a miracle 00:04:37.76\00:04:39.32 that these kids now use laptop computers. 00:04:39.35\00:04:41.87 Lead out in worship services, 00:04:41.90\00:04:43.59 do public speaking and read and write 00:04:43.62\00:04:45.86 better then many of the national children 00:04:45.89\00:04:47.80 in the public schools. 00:04:47.83\00:04:49.36 Anna Lin teaches the classes using DVD home school materials 00:04:49.39\00:04:52.98 from America along with other textbooks. 00:04:53.01\00:04:55.52 The kids love to learn and well, quite frankly 00:04:55.55\00:04:58.36 they can do math much better than I can. 00:04:58.39\00:05:00.75 Joe Beazley leads out in Bible classes 00:05:00.78\00:05:02.72 with the students on a daily basis. 00:05:02.75\00:05:04.94 The students are responsible for also leading out 00:05:04.97\00:05:07.26 in evening and morning worship services with the staff. 00:05:07.29\00:05:11.36 Moni, Webb and Ellen Beazley work together 00:05:11.39\00:05:13.47 on the book keeping and monthly budgets 00:05:13.50\00:05:15.19 for all the villages and the prison ministry. 00:05:15.22\00:05:17.87 Speaking of which, as this day comes to an end 00:05:17.90\00:05:20.58 tomorrow I want to take you to see the prison ministry. 00:05:20.61\00:05:23.32 This morning I wanted drive this trustworthy hopefully 00:05:27.29\00:05:29.76 trustworthy little minivan over to Sablayan, 00:05:29.79\00:05:31.97 it's about 90 kilometers from here 00:05:32.00\00:05:34.34 and we're gonna go see Louie 00:05:34.37\00:05:35.90 in while over to prison ministry. 00:05:35.93\00:05:37.94 I'm hoping this minivan makes it, 00:05:37.97\00:05:39.87 it's not the most that, it's not the most, 00:05:39.90\00:05:45.22 I don't know how to say it 00:05:45.25\00:05:46.28 but I hope it's dependable. 00:05:46.31\00:05:48.17 The tyres are a little bit worn on it 00:05:48.20\00:05:50.06 and it has few rust holes that they keep telling me 00:05:50.09\00:05:53.29 that there is a good chance 00:05:53.32\00:05:54.51 that this will make it over there in back 00:05:54.54\00:05:55.75 so we'll find out this morning. 00:05:55.78\00:05:57.01 The trip is mostly over dirt roads 00:06:14.44\00:06:16.35 intermixed with a few smooth areas of pavement. 00:06:16.38\00:06:19.25 It's around 70 kilometers that's 45 miles 00:06:19.28\00:06:22.57 and it takes around three hours to drive 00:06:22.60\00:06:24.56 due to the conditions of the roads. 00:06:24.59\00:06:27.23 The trip is hot and dusty 00:06:27.26\00:06:29.29 especially when trucks and jeepneys drive by 00:06:29.32\00:06:31.58 leaving huge dust clouds. 00:06:31.61\00:06:34.16 They use the roads it's a dry a lot of the grains out. 00:06:34.19\00:06:38.49 They actually spread them out on the highways 00:06:38.52\00:06:40.26 and cars and trucks oftentimes-- 00:06:40.29\00:06:41.57 we just drive right over top of it 00:06:41.60\00:06:42.95 and that kind of helps threshing process. 00:06:42.98\00:06:45.35 And then they rake in several times 00:06:45.38\00:06:46.95 and they pick it up and put it in bags. 00:06:46.98\00:06:48.73 The planting, cutting rice is a difficult task 00:06:48.76\00:06:51.99 especially when you consider how hot it is outside. 00:06:52.02\00:06:54.59 Right now they are taking the real mature husks crops 00:06:54.62\00:06:57.70 and they're putting them through the thresher 00:06:57.73\00:06:59.68 separating the kernels from the husks. 00:06:59.71\00:07:02.00 Life here in the Philippines extremely difficult 00:07:02.03\00:07:04.70 and this is just bare, the bare existence for them 00:07:04.73\00:07:08.50 trying to survive, trying to do this kind of work 00:07:08.53\00:07:10.53 and provide for their families. 00:07:10.56\00:07:14.55 At the prison Luisito Benitez and Abel Miralles lead out 00:07:14.58\00:07:17.60 in training the inmates to do outreach. 00:07:17.63\00:07:20.70 When we have the idea of turning the 62,500 acre 00:07:20.73\00:07:24.23 Pino colony into a Bible seminary 00:07:24.26\00:07:27.46 we thought that it was kind of a crazy idea 00:07:27.49\00:07:31.13 but over the years it's turned out 00:07:31.16\00:07:32.62 to be actually quiet successful. 00:07:32.65\00:07:34.49 The inmates here as you've witnessed 00:07:34.52\00:07:37.16 they, they conduct their own church services. 00:07:37.19\00:07:39.76 They're trained in such a way that they basically run 00:07:39.79\00:07:43.00 their whole organizations inside the prison by themselves. 00:07:43.03\00:07:46.98 The church service today was done completely by the inmates. 00:07:47.01\00:07:51.39 We had one native that came from Paradise church 00:07:51.42\00:07:54.15 who did special music but all the special music 00:07:54.18\00:07:57.16 and even the sermon which was very well done today. 00:07:57.19\00:07:59.92 It was done by the inmates. 00:07:59.95\00:08:02.65 And this is the second church Laymen Ministries 00:08:02.68\00:08:04.55 has helped work together with the inmates to build. 00:08:04.58\00:08:07.70 We don't just give them money to build the church 00:08:07.73\00:08:10.37 what we do is we give them some of the cement 00:08:10.40\00:08:12.76 and we use an intensive program to get the inmates involved 00:08:12.79\00:08:15.51 with being able to get wood and cogan for the roof 00:08:15.54\00:08:18.08 and such so that when they build the church here 00:08:18.11\00:08:20.07 this church is actually their church. 00:08:20.10\00:08:22.14 Recently we had 93 inmates 00:08:22.17\00:08:25.22 who sealed their decisions to accept Jesus Christ 00:08:25.25\00:08:27.48 as their personal savior through baptism. 00:08:27.51\00:08:29.91 And Pastor Pernia did the baptism. 00:08:29.94\00:08:36.22 For 10 years working in the Prison Ministry 00:08:36.25\00:08:38.27 and nine years working with the Laymen Ministries 00:08:38.30\00:08:41.28 I would say that God sustained all our needs. 00:08:41.31\00:08:44.94 For me working with the Lord 00:08:49.66\00:08:52.28 and Prison Ministry was a big privilege. 00:08:52.31\00:08:56.94 My life before was on the dark side 00:08:56.97\00:09:03.24 but something happened God called me 00:09:03.27\00:09:07.63 to work for the Prison Ministry. 00:09:07.66\00:09:09.48 He changed my life. 00:09:09.51\00:09:11.73 By now we have prison guard 00:09:11.76\00:09:14.67 who is regularly attending our Sabbath worship with us. 00:09:14.70\00:09:20.04 He is also studying the Bible and together with his wife 00:09:20.07\00:09:24.53 they came to attend every Sabbath. 00:09:24.56\00:09:27.79 I can say that I'm an ordinary layman 00:09:27.82\00:09:30.16 but with the power 00:09:30.19\00:09:33.11 and the blessings of the Holy Spirit, 00:09:33.14\00:09:36.67 God used me mightily. 00:09:36.70\00:09:38.59 If you have the willingness and commitment to do God's work 00:09:38.62\00:09:42.41 you can be a powerful worker for that. 00:09:42.44\00:09:45.26 After a busy and dusty trip to Sablayan 00:09:50.16\00:09:52.53 we'll get some rest 00:09:52.56\00:09:53.59 and tomorrow we'll be off to the villages. 00:09:53.62\00:09:55.55 We went shopping for our groceries 00:10:00.69\00:10:02.42 for the missionaries for the month 00:10:02.45\00:10:04.07 and we're sorting them and packaging them 00:10:04.10\00:10:07.84 and boxing them up 00:10:07.87\00:10:09.37 to put on the boat to take to the missionaries. 00:10:09.40\00:10:13.37 It's early in the morning here 00:10:13.40\00:10:14.84 about supposed to 5:30 in the morning 00:10:14.87\00:10:16.94 and we're getting ready to go out to the villages. 00:10:16.97\00:10:19.21 This is a really nice time in the morning 00:10:19.24\00:10:20.66 because the humidity is down and the temperature is down. 00:10:20.69\00:10:23.43 We're gonna be loading up the boat here 00:10:23.46\00:10:24.90 and we're going to spend probably about almost two weeks 00:10:24.93\00:10:28.36 about ten, eleven, twelve, days out in the villages 00:10:28.39\00:10:30.97 to see what missionaries are doing and checking 00:10:31.00\00:10:32.71 on the student missionary down there. 00:10:32.74\00:10:34.64 We're gonna move the boat over right now 00:10:34.67\00:10:35.80 and load it up in and head on this morning. 00:10:35.83\00:10:37.97 Jim had just told me time and time again 00:10:57.15\00:10:59.52 that he can really rely 00:10:59.55\00:11:00.58 with lot of those old Adventist camps 00:11:00.61\00:11:02.28 you know, like throughout the lifeline 00:11:02.31\00:11:04.70 and all those song that have do with sailing 00:11:04.73\00:11:06.73 because the ocean current is black, 00:11:06.76\00:11:08.71 the water is clean white 00:11:08.74\00:11:09.77 and billowous and it is rough indeed 00:11:09.80\00:11:11.98 but today by God's grace its just as calm 00:11:12.01\00:11:15.23 and its beautiful as it could be. 00:11:15.26\00:11:16.53 They got a dirty kitchen here. 00:12:08.19\00:12:09.36 That's a cute little place. Yeah. 00:12:13.98\00:12:16.18 And have you had any problems with snakes or-- 00:12:16.21\00:12:18.25 Oh, just a few. Big spiders? 00:12:18.28\00:12:19.67 Big spiders. 00:12:19.70\00:12:20.82 Oh, have you were afraid of spiders? 00:12:20.85\00:12:22.13 Oh, just a little. 00:12:22.16\00:12:23.36 So you even got a sink upon concrete here. 00:12:23.39\00:12:25.28 Yeah. 00:12:25.31\00:12:26.34 So tell us about your little house, what do you got? 00:12:26.37\00:12:27.82 This is my house and this is my kitchen 00:12:27.85\00:12:30.02 and my living room altogether 00:12:30.05\00:12:32.22 and this is my room here I share with another missionary. 00:12:32.25\00:12:36.33 This is your bedroom? Yeah, this is a bedroom. 00:12:36.36\00:12:38.85 I see you got your mosquito nets up. 00:12:38.88\00:12:40.35 Definitely, because the spiders out. 00:12:40.38\00:12:42.37 And so what do you have on over here? 00:12:42.40\00:12:44.63 This is my lowest bathroom, my CR. 00:12:44.66\00:12:47.90 Why do they call them CRs? Comfort Room. 00:12:47.93\00:12:50.67 Oh, it's a comfort room. Is this a comfortable room? 00:12:50.70\00:12:53.09 I mean it depends. 00:12:53.12\00:12:55.68 So how do you take a bath here? 00:12:55.71\00:12:57.77 This is my shower and I just take the dipper 00:12:57.80\00:13:03.80 and this my shower. 00:13:03.83\00:13:04.94 So when you knew that you're going to be out here 00:13:04.97\00:13:06.82 did you think it was gonna be this primitive 00:13:06.85\00:13:08.89 or is this better than you were hoping? 00:13:08.92\00:13:09.96 This is better than I was hoping. 00:13:09.99\00:13:11.97 And when you saw this toilet? 00:13:12.00\00:13:13.58 I was a little bit shocked. 00:13:13.61\00:13:16.14 I was thinking in my expectations 00:13:16.17\00:13:17.65 where I was gonna be very primitive 00:13:17.68\00:13:19.42 and it was gonna be glorified camping which it 00:13:19.45\00:13:22.89 mostly is but its enjoyable glorified camping. 00:13:22.92\00:13:25.65 And then you don't think about it after a while 00:13:25.68\00:13:28.06 becomes like a nature. 00:13:28.09\00:13:29.34 I work in Binuangan 00:13:36.57\00:13:37.94 its one of the three laymen villages in the Philippines. 00:13:37.97\00:13:41.43 I work with the Katatubo people 00:13:41.46\00:13:43.17 they are primitive people in Mindanao. 00:13:43.20\00:13:45.23 Working with the children has been 00:13:51.65\00:13:53.08 a wonderful blessing for me. 00:13:53.11\00:13:55.16 I love kids and these kids are very sweet and gentle 00:13:55.19\00:13:58.95 and the experience has been wonderful 00:13:58.98\00:14:00.87 the bonding has been awesome. 00:14:00.90\00:14:04.04 This is our first graduation of Grade 6. 00:14:32.28\00:14:36.36 Grade 6 is the end of the elementary school 00:14:36.39\00:14:39.25 here in the Philippines 00:14:39.28\00:14:40.51 and after this our one graduate 00:14:40.54\00:14:43.05 today will be going to Mamburao to the home office 00:14:43.08\00:14:46.63 where we have an immediate junior high school 00:14:46.66\00:14:50.35 and then further high school. 00:14:50.38\00:14:51.95 Our next stop is at the village of Pinagbayanan. 00:15:41.43\00:15:43.86 Boni Hosea who has been working for us here seven years 00:15:43.89\00:15:46.50 along with his wife Mercy greeted me. 00:15:46.53\00:15:48.61 And of course, there are the kids. 00:15:48.64\00:15:51.10 It's hard to believe at one time 00:15:51.13\00:15:52.80 these children were so shy 00:15:52.83\00:15:54.56 they would hide from us when we arrived. 00:15:54.59\00:15:56.57 Well, this is the group from Pinagbayanan 00:16:01.31\00:16:02.80 and this is our teachers from this last year. 00:16:02.83\00:16:04.78 Michelle who is also one of the Katatubo teachers 00:16:04.81\00:16:06.95 she went back to the village 00:16:06.98\00:16:08.14 but we thought maybe we'd give you 00:16:08.17\00:16:09.81 a tour of the places that are, the buildings 00:16:09.84\00:16:12.44 that are on the facility here and their houses 00:16:12.47\00:16:14.56 and just kind of take a general look at the campus. 00:16:14.59\00:16:16.43 So where should we start? 00:16:16.46\00:16:19.48 The accommodations are rustic and simple. 00:16:19.51\00:16:22.36 We have power by only solar panels 00:16:22.39\00:16:25.10 which provides light and some power 00:16:25.13\00:16:26.97 for charging cell phones 00:16:27.00\00:16:28.41 that is if it's not raining too much outside. 00:16:28.44\00:16:30.84 This couple here they, they were teaching 00:16:35.30\00:16:38.66 last year in different villages. 00:16:38.69\00:16:40.10 Yes. 00:16:40.13\00:16:41.16 And then you decide to tie the knot, right? 00:16:41.19\00:16:42.97 Yeah. 00:16:43.00\00:16:44.39 And they got married 00:16:44.42\00:16:45.60 and they're planning long term missionary work here. 00:16:45.63\00:16:48.12 And this is your little house up here? 00:16:48.15\00:16:49.70 Yeah. 00:16:49.73\00:16:50.76 A really nice campus. 00:16:50.79\00:16:51.88 There is everything is nice and clean. 00:16:51.91\00:16:53.58 The classrooms are made from cement or bamboo 00:16:56.79\00:16:59.62 using thatched or metal roofs. 00:16:59.65\00:17:01.69 In this village we have four school houses 00:17:01.72\00:17:03.99 consisting of six classrooms. 00:17:04.02\00:17:08.59 So this is where you're teaching 00:17:08.62\00:17:10.33 and what grade pupils you have here? 00:17:10.36\00:17:12.00 Kindergarten. 00:17:12.03\00:17:14.99 And did you do all this beautiful artwork here? 00:17:15.02\00:17:18.50 Yeah, interesting. 00:17:18.53\00:17:20.68 God is love, 1 John 4:8. 00:17:20.71\00:17:24.46 We have a clean kitchen and a dirty kitchen? 00:17:24.49\00:17:27.25 A dirty kitchen. 00:17:27.28\00:17:28.31 And when we talk about dirty kitchens 00:17:28.34\00:17:29.69 here in the Philippines we are not saying 00:17:29.72\00:17:31.16 that their kitchen is dirty. 00:17:31.19\00:17:32.35 It just means it's an outdoor kitchen 00:17:32.38\00:17:33.81 where they cook with charcoal and wood, yeah. 00:17:33.84\00:17:37.66 And so they have an outside kitchen. 00:17:37.69\00:17:39.23 And sometimes it's really dirty. 00:17:39.26\00:17:41.59 Yeah? 00:17:41.62\00:17:42.70 Now they're ready for the graduation, right 00:17:46.39\00:17:48.65 and its all setup for graduation right now. 00:17:48.68\00:17:51.00 Yeah. 00:17:51.03\00:17:52.06 And how many people you said are gonna come? 00:17:52.09\00:17:54.22 Five hundred people. 00:17:54.25\00:17:56.27 And today they have practiced 00:17:56.30\00:17:57.99 and they practiced and practiced 00:17:58.02\00:18:01.15 and can be a lot of people here. 00:18:01.18\00:18:04.48 Nice roomy classroom 00:18:04.51\00:18:06.09 its kind of metal roof it's been insulated. 00:18:06.12\00:18:07.71 And how do you actually say it? 00:18:07.74\00:18:09.94 Pinagbayanan. Pinang? 00:18:12.97\00:18:15.72 Pinag. 00:18:15.75\00:18:16.78 I will never learn Tagalog. 00:18:16.81\00:18:20.43 This is Andy. 00:18:20.46\00:18:21.70 Andy is gonna demonstrate 00:18:21.73\00:18:22.87 how they actually climb these coconut trees 00:18:22.90\00:18:24.75 and harvest the coconuts here. 00:18:24.78\00:18:26.75 Believe me, Andy makes this look much easier than it really is. 00:18:26.78\00:18:30.95 I tried this once and I got about half way up the tree 00:18:30.98\00:18:33.87 but I decided it was a life threatening situation 00:18:33.90\00:18:36.52 and returned to the ground well with a "thud." 00:18:36.55\00:18:41.89 They call this young or tender coconut 00:18:41.92\00:18:44.15 because it's newly picked. 00:18:44.18\00:18:46.14 The juice inside is refreshing. 00:18:46.17\00:18:48.86 And coconuts are major staple in the Philippines. 00:18:48.89\00:18:51.87 They're used for making soap, oil and even candy. 00:18:51.90\00:18:55.98 You can make right now, is the spoon 00:18:59.44\00:19:03.17 out of the outside of the coconut 00:19:03.20\00:19:04.48 because the inside of the coconut is really soft. 00:19:04.51\00:19:07.89 And you could pick it out like this-- 00:19:07.92\00:19:10.51 and get it. 00:19:13.49\00:19:14.55 Tender coconut, it's really good. 00:19:20.66\00:19:24.28 This is Neng-Neng and how old are you Neng-Neng? 00:19:24.31\00:19:28.85 You know? Thirteen. 00:19:28.88\00:19:30.98 Thirteen, she is 13 years old 00:19:31.01\00:19:33.28 and exactly one year ago almost exactly today 00:19:33.31\00:19:37.35 we had her in Mamburao to see Dr. Baron 00:19:37.38\00:19:40.08 because she had a really severe cleft palate 00:19:40.11\00:19:42.38 and we worked with Dr. Baron and he actually told us 00:19:42.41\00:19:46.17 that he would donate the operation 00:19:46.20\00:19:48.60 to correct the problem. 00:19:48.63\00:19:50.11 And that Laymen Ministries have just paid 00:19:50.14\00:19:52.30 for the hospital expenses. 00:19:52.33\00:19:53.36 And Jim and Moni worked with them to do that. 00:19:53.39\00:19:56.78 And lot of times so that we have other children 00:19:56.81\00:19:58.79 that have come to ministry that have different problems 00:19:58.82\00:20:01.66 and we have special situations like this 00:20:01.69\00:20:04.42 for people in America donate funds and help 00:20:04.45\00:20:07.36 with doing different types of corrective surgery here. 00:20:07.39\00:20:10.48 One boy we took to Manila 00:20:10.51\00:20:12.20 and he had some extensive corrective surgery done 00:20:12.23\00:20:14.25 and today he is functioning normal. 00:20:14.28\00:20:16.53 He was actually born without a rectum 00:20:16.56\00:20:18.46 and they did reconstructive surgery 00:20:18.49\00:20:20.13 on him to have that fixed. 00:20:20.16\00:20:23.38 So there's some serious things here 00:20:23.41\00:20:24.79 and lot of time the kids will never have a chance 00:20:24.82\00:20:26.68 to live a more normal life 00:20:26.71\00:20:28.90 if there wasn't the opportunity for missionaries to be here 00:20:28.93\00:20:31.39 at to really help with the situations. 00:20:31.42\00:20:34.97 Then we pull that one going out here 00:20:35.00\00:20:37.77 so that there will be-- we're going to palate them. 00:20:37.80\00:20:40.92 Today she is really beautiful and looks good 00:20:40.95\00:20:43.23 and the surgery turned out really good 00:20:43.26\00:20:45.62 and she is living here with Boni, Mercy now. 00:20:45.65\00:20:48.37 And she is happy and she's got a beautiful smile. 00:20:48.40\00:20:51.57 And what, what grade are you in. 00:20:56.61\00:20:59.20 In grade one. In grade one. 00:20:59.23\00:21:01.82 I think after that. 00:21:01.85\00:21:04.20 So you'll be great one next year? 00:21:04.23\00:21:05.43 Yes. 00:21:05.46\00:21:06.49 Oh good. That's good. 00:21:06.52\00:21:08.33 The change in my children's 00:21:23.24\00:21:27.10 or my students got here 00:21:27.13\00:21:29.74 the way they treat the people around them. 00:21:29.77\00:21:33.20 It really show their love, their affection 00:21:33.23\00:21:37.08 and like before it did. 00:21:37.11\00:21:38.47 They hide it and it's their very bashful 00:21:38.50\00:21:41.64 or they're very shy with those people. 00:21:41.67\00:21:44.38 But now they're really trying and they've been matured 00:21:44.41\00:21:49.89 and their level of education is improved. 00:21:49.92\00:21:53.79 And it's very nice 00:21:53.82\00:21:56.13 and the words that came from them 00:21:56.16\00:21:59.20 really encourages me to still 00:21:59.23\00:22:01.94 or to teach more of this kind of students 00:22:01.97\00:22:04.99 although its hard but its worthy. 00:22:05.02\00:22:09.05 Our village projects here have 00:22:13.36\00:22:14.96 continued to grow and be blessed. 00:22:14.99\00:22:17.13 Over the 12 years that I've been here 00:22:17.16\00:22:18.74 I watched the quality of education increased. 00:22:18.77\00:22:21.85 Seeing the ignorance disappear and the kids burning to read 00:22:21.88\00:22:24.65 and write and learn basic Bible. 00:22:24.68\00:22:26.66 We have a lot of young students in this particular school. 00:22:26.69\00:22:29.56 And we're now ready to enter to the next level of education 00:22:29.59\00:22:32.46 and Biblical training and that is with our high school project. 00:22:32.49\00:22:35.60 Now, we want to build some new buildings 00:22:35.63\00:22:39.53 and such on a piece of property we've already acquired 00:22:39.56\00:22:42.22 so that these kids as classes keep growing and growing 00:22:42.25\00:22:45.31 we have more and more graduates 00:22:45.34\00:22:46.37 so they'll have a place to be able to go 00:22:46.40\00:22:48.36 where they can have good solid Biblical teaching 00:22:48.39\00:22:51.18 and to be able to advance in the academics. 00:22:51.21\00:22:53.89 This is the closest village to the property 00:22:53.92\00:22:56.61 that we've purchased for building a high school. 00:22:56.64\00:23:00.47 Now that property is behind this. 00:23:00.50\00:23:02.22 We actually can't see the property 00:23:02.25\00:23:03.90 exactly from where I'm standing. 00:23:03.93\00:23:05.38 It's over this next ridge line. 00:23:05.41\00:23:07.28 Our plan is to build a road 00:23:07.31\00:23:10.68 to the property from here from this village 00:23:10.71\00:23:13.29 and establish a working academy 00:23:13.32\00:23:17.40 for our native graduates from our elementary schools 00:23:17.43\00:23:23.08 so that they can get a high school education. 00:23:23.11\00:23:25.54 This way they can come back 00:23:25.57\00:23:26.99 to be missionaries to their own people. 00:23:27.02\00:23:28.55 We have quiet a number of young students right now. 00:23:28.58\00:23:31.28 Eighteen, nineteen years old 00:23:31.31\00:23:32.44 that are ready to go to that level 00:23:32.47\00:23:33.65 that have a burning desire to comeback to the villages 00:23:33.68\00:23:36.43 and to really work amongst their own people 00:23:36.46\00:23:38.61 and we're very excited about this. 00:23:38.64\00:23:39.67 This is really a wonderful opportunity. 00:23:39.70\00:23:42.23 We need to build real buildings, we need to put a road in, 00:23:42.26\00:23:44.73 we need people that would be willing to come 00:23:44.76\00:23:47.35 and be staff for our academy or high school 00:23:47.38\00:23:50.70 and also to be involved with building. 00:23:50.73\00:23:52.99 So I just ask that you would pray with us 00:23:53.02\00:23:54.48 as we move forward to this next level 00:23:54.51\00:23:56.25 because it is a wonderful opportunity to serve God 00:23:56.28\00:23:59.95 with a Katatubo people here in the Philippines. 00:23:59.98\00:24:02.01 This is village of Agbalite and we are really blessed 00:24:20.85\00:24:24.94 because the way is really big, 00:24:24.97\00:24:26.46 we probably gonna have to swim in 00:24:26.49\00:24:27.74 but we are actually able to get the boat right up to shore. 00:24:27.77\00:24:30.47 This is where Neng-Neng and Joe and Bilgrade 00:24:30.50\00:24:36.31 and Lindsay are working. 00:24:36.34\00:24:38.80 We'll be spending a Sabbath here with them. 00:24:38.83\00:24:40.48 Oh.
