Funds had been raised by Sabbath school members 00:00:19.71\00:00:22.02 in California to send the missionary team 00:00:22.05\00:00:24.39 down to Australia. 00:00:24.42\00:00:25.79 The intention was to open the work in Australia, 00:00:25.82\00:00:28.62 for God had additional plans in store. 00:00:28.66\00:00:31.69 Headed by S. N. Haskell the team stopped here 00:00:31.73\00:00:34.90 in New Zealand for four to five days 00:00:34.93\00:00:37.23 on route in 1885. 00:00:37.27\00:00:40.10 Impressed by the friendliness of the people 00:00:40.14\00:00:42.57 and noting the libraries in town, 00:00:42.60\00:00:44.97 Haskell commented 00:00:45.01\00:00:46.34 that the people must be interested in learning 00:00:46.37\00:00:49.01 and would therefore make good prospects 00:00:49.04\00:00:51.61 for learning Bible truths. 00:00:51.65\00:00:53.95 After settling in Melbourne, he decided to return to America 00:00:58.05\00:01:01.89 and stopped off in New Zealand on the way. 00:01:01.92\00:01:04.56 He had heard of the group of Sunday keeping Adventists 00:01:04.59\00:01:07.66 and found accommodation with Edward and Lizzie Hare. 00:01:07.70\00:01:11.20 They introduced him to others in the area 00:01:11.23\00:01:13.64 and he held some meetings over the course of a few weeks. 00:01:13.67\00:01:17.07 Breaking the evangelistic rule, 00:01:17.11\00:01:19.07 he presented the Sabbath on the first night 00:01:19.11\00:01:21.54 and the second coming on the second night. 00:01:21.58\00:01:24.08 They were convinced and encouraged him 00:01:24.11\00:01:26.28 to visit the rest of the Hare family 00:01:26.31\00:01:28.62 who live north in Kaeo. 00:01:28.65\00:01:30.42 Deciding not to return to the US, 00:01:35.66\00:01:38.06 he stayed with the Hare family in Kaeo, 00:01:38.09\00:01:40.66 about 250 kilometers north of Auckland. 00:01:40.70\00:01:44.47 This area is rich in religious history 00:01:44.50\00:01:47.10 with the Methodist, Anglican, 00:01:47.14\00:01:48.84 Catholic and Seventh-day Adventist Churches 00:01:48.87\00:01:51.27 having roots in the area. 00:01:51.31\00:01:53.31 Here he met the patriarch of the family, 00:01:53.34\00:01:55.48 Joseph Hare, an Irish Orangemen 00:01:55.51\00:01:58.15 who along with his family live in the house 00:01:58.18\00:02:00.78 on the mount behind me. 00:02:00.82\00:02:02.68 He also met his son Robert, 00:02:02.72\00:02:04.35 and both of them were preachers. 00:02:04.39\00:02:06.52 Haskell was invited to speak 00:02:06.55\00:02:08.49 and spoke for three consecutive Sundays 00:02:08.52\00:02:10.96 along with evening meetings 00:02:10.99\00:02:12.86 and also holding Bible studies during the day in the home. 00:02:12.89\00:02:16.70 The Hare family decided to keep the Sabbath. 00:02:21.80\00:02:24.17 And this chemist behind me would end up 00:02:24.21\00:02:26.37 being one of the first church buildings that they met in. 00:02:26.41\00:02:29.71 Robert the son had a difficult decision to make. 00:02:29.74\00:02:32.71 He was engaged to be married. 00:02:32.75\00:02:34.45 The house had been built, the furniture had been ordered, 00:02:34.48\00:02:37.49 but his bride to be objected to his new beliefs. 00:02:37.52\00:02:41.42 It was marriage or the Sabbath, 00:02:41.46\00:02:43.93 she wouldn't convert and he wouldn't compromise. 00:02:43.96\00:02:47.10 The marriage was off and he left for America 00:02:47.13\00:02:49.96 to study for the ministry at Healdsburg College. 00:02:50.00\00:02:52.77 Haskell returned in 1886, 00:02:59.07\00:03:01.78 and ran a two week evangelistic series, 00:03:01.81\00:03:04.41 and before he left he organized 00:03:04.45\00:03:06.45 the Kaeo Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:03:06.48\00:03:08.62 the first in New Zealand on the 23rd of March 1886. 00:03:08.65\00:03:14.16 Haskell sent a good report to the General Conference 00:03:14.19\00:03:16.96 and requested an evangelist be sent. 00:03:16.99\00:03:19.96 The choice was 28 year old A.G. Daniells, 00:03:20.00\00:03:23.23 who would later go on to be the longest serving 00:03:23.26\00:03:26.03 General Conference president. 00:03:26.07\00:03:28.04 A.G. Daniells brought with him a 15 square meter marquee 00:03:28.07\00:03:32.71 that was pitched here in this park 00:03:32.74\00:03:35.21 along with a pedal organ and together with his wife 00:03:35.24\00:03:38.61 lived in a tent on sites. 00:03:38.65\00:03:40.68 A.G. Daniells would lead 00:03:48.39\00:03:49.72 the first evangelistic tent series in Auckland 00:03:49.76\00:03:52.79 and drew large crowds. 00:03:52.83\00:03:54.56 And at the end of 17 weeks of meetings, 00:03:54.60\00:03:57.57 a Sabbath school with 78 members was started. 00:03:57.60\00:04:01.34 Later on, a small wooden church was built on Mackelvie Street 00:04:01.37\00:04:05.61 with 67 charter members 00:04:05.64\00:04:07.61 and the first service took place 00:04:07.64\00:04:09.98 on the 15th of October, 1887. 00:04:10.01\00:04:13.62 This was the first church built in the southern hemisphere 00:04:13.65\00:04:17.09 and still stands today 00:04:17.12\00:04:18.89 as part of the Ponsonby Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:04:18.92\00:04:22.92 Robert Hare would soon return 00:04:28.76\00:04:30.47 from the USA with his American bride, 00:04:30.50\00:04:32.97 Henrietta Johnson 00:04:33.00\00:04:34.34 and thrust himself into the work here. 00:04:34.37\00:04:37.01 A few years later, a conference would be formed 00:04:37.04\00:04:39.74 and the work would progress to the South Island 00:04:39.77\00:04:42.38 with S.N. Haskell amongst others 00:04:42.41\00:04:44.68 starting the church there as well. 00:04:44.71\00:04:46.98 A few years later, 00:04:47.02\00:04:48.35 the conference was split into two in 1915. 00:04:48.38\00:04:51.75 A college was also started at Longburn on the south part 00:04:51.79\00:04:55.72 of the north island. 00:04:55.76\00:04:57.33 When Ellen White was in the South Pacific, 00:04:57.36\00:04:59.26 she spent some time here helping to establish the church 00:04:59.29\00:05:03.00 and spoke at the first New Zealand camp meeting 00:05:03.03\00:05:06.20 and also began writing on the life of Christ 00:05:06.23\00:05:09.34 while she was down here. 00:05:09.37\00:05:11.14 And so the stop on the journey to Australia turned into 00:05:17.25\00:05:20.48 a lot more than just a few days rest. 00:05:20.52\00:05:23.39 God had bigger plans than just rest and relaxation. 00:05:23.42\00:05:27.22 S. N. Haskell's return journey to America 00:05:27.26\00:05:30.06 never materialized then and instead the church 00:05:30.09\00:05:32.99 was birthed here in this beautiful country. 00:05:33.03\00:05:35.96 Sometimes we have big plans that we want God to accomplish. 00:05:36.00\00:05:39.63 And whilst that's good to have, 00:05:39.67\00:05:41.37 we must always be open to God turning things around 00:05:41.40\00:05:45.24 and remember as Isaiah says that 00:05:45.27\00:05:47.28 His ways are higher than our ways. 00:05:47.31\00:05:50.15 Ellen White's work in Australia 00:06:09.06\00:06:10.73 and New Zealand was largely a pioneering work. 00:06:10.77\00:06:14.00 S.N. Haskell and his team had arrived 00:06:14.04\00:06:16.34 several years earlier 00:06:16.37\00:06:17.87 but much of the work was yet to be done. 00:06:17.91\00:06:20.41 Here in this new country, 00:06:20.44\00:06:21.98 they would go into unentered field, 00:06:22.01\00:06:24.31 open schools, churches, 00:06:24.35\00:06:26.38 sanitariums and publishing houses. 00:06:26.41\00:06:29.08 The membership was small but the vision was big. 00:06:29.12\00:06:32.62 Ellen White had mentioned Australia 00:06:32.65\00:06:34.52 as early as 1874 when she wrote, 00:06:34.56\00:06:37.66 "The message will go in power to Oregon, 00:06:37.69\00:06:40.50 to Europe, to Australia." 00:06:40.53\00:06:43.10 At the age of 64, 17 years later, 00:06:43.13\00:06:46.23 she would arrive here in Australia. 00:06:46.27\00:06:48.60 The original team had originally docked in Sydney 00:06:48.64\00:06:51.64 but they would end up settling here in Melbourne 00:06:51.67\00:06:54.44 and the city is really the birthplace 00:06:54.48\00:06:56.48 of Adventism in Australia. 00:06:56.51\00:06:58.25 This was also where Ellen White first settled when she came. 00:07:04.35\00:07:07.49 In mid 1892, she sent a message 00:07:07.52\00:07:10.09 to the conference president A.G. Daniells 00:07:10.13\00:07:12.39 that a school needed to be started 00:07:12.43\00:07:14.33 for the education of the youth. 00:07:14.36\00:07:16.36 This message was both welcome and also troubling. 00:07:16.40\00:07:19.97 How could a membership so small 00:07:20.00\00:07:21.94 and poor in worldly goods accomplish this? 00:07:21.97\00:07:24.87 They started the Australasian Bible School 00:07:24.91\00:07:27.58 in two rented houses on St. George's Terrace 00:07:27.61\00:07:30.68 on St. Kilda Road. 00:07:30.71\00:07:32.45 In their first term they had between 25 and 50 students, 00:07:32.48\00:07:36.38 later on the school would grow 00:07:36.42\00:07:38.15 and a third house would be added. 00:07:38.19\00:07:40.22 Later on, the school would move north to Cooranbong 00:07:40.26\00:07:43.32 but its roots lie here. 00:07:43.36\00:07:45.16 Early on the publishing work was started 00:07:51.80\00:07:54.67 and a building on the corner of Rae and Scotchmer 00:07:54.70\00:07:57.81 served as both accommodation and publishing house. 00:07:57.84\00:08:01.64 The first copy of the Bible Echo 00:08:01.68\00:08:03.61 and Signs of the Time 00:08:03.65\00:08:04.98 was published in January of 1886. 00:08:05.01\00:08:08.45 Later on, they would purchase a property here on Best Street 00:08:08.48\00:08:12.09 for 1400 dollars 00:08:12.12\00:08:13.86 and a three storey building was erected. 00:08:13.89\00:08:16.59 The publishing house would stay here 00:08:16.62\00:08:18.63 until it would move in 1905 to Warburton 00:08:18.66\00:08:21.63 where it remains to this day. 00:08:21.66\00:08:24.03 Our early pioneers 00:08:24.07\00:08:25.63 sought to use the best means of communication 00:08:25.67\00:08:28.64 to share the message 00:08:28.67\00:08:30.01 and this was integral to the strategy of the church 00:08:30.04\00:08:32.74 as it planted in new areas. 00:08:32.77\00:08:34.94 Here in the Edinburgh gardens they also held 00:08:40.75\00:08:43.18 the first tent meetings that would later on 00:08:43.22\00:08:45.99 lead to the first Adventist Church 00:08:46.02\00:08:48.52 in the southern hemisphere, 00:08:48.56\00:08:49.89 the North Fitzroy Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:08:49.92\00:08:53.06 Another work that started early on was a health food company, 00:09:00.50\00:09:04.84 this was known as Sanitarium Health Foods 00:09:04.87\00:09:07.31 and started in 1898 on Clark Street 00:09:07.34\00:09:10.65 in Northcote, Melbourne. 00:09:10.68\00:09:12.28 Ellen White strongly encouraged this as well as 00:09:12.31\00:09:14.88 the later move of the company from Melbourne to Avondale 00:09:14.92\00:09:18.39 so that the college students could work there. 00:09:18.42\00:09:20.76 Today Sanitarium Foods 00:09:20.79\00:09:22.49 is one of the largest health food companies 00:09:22.52\00:09:24.46 in the world 00:09:24.49\00:09:25.83 and is widely recognized throughout Australia 00:09:25.86\00:09:28.00 for its wide range of products, 00:09:28.03\00:09:30.17 in particular, its flagship product Weetabix. 00:09:30.20\00:09:33.47 The financial support given by Sanitarium 00:09:42.91\00:09:45.28 to the work of the church is aligned with the instruction 00:09:45.31\00:09:48.28 Ellen White gave about the health food work 00:09:48.32\00:09:50.82 that it is God's gift to His people 00:09:50.85\00:09:53.42 and the profits are to be used 00:09:53.46\00:09:55.06 for the good of suffering humanity everywhere. 00:09:55.09\00:09:58.36 This is perhaps the best illustration 00:09:58.39\00:10:00.50 of this close working relationship 00:10:00.53\00:10:02.46 anywhere in the world. 00:10:02.50\00:10:04.53 And so the work of the church 00:10:12.31\00:10:13.94 started in a comprehensive fashion, 00:10:13.98\00:10:16.61 evangelism, church planting, 00:10:16.64\00:10:19.01 education, a health food company, 00:10:19.05\00:10:21.32 a publishing house and the sanitarium. 00:10:21.35\00:10:23.99 There were many dimensions to the church in its early days 00:10:24.02\00:10:27.29 despite only having a few members. 00:10:27.32\00:10:30.33 They work hard and sort of follow the counsel 00:10:30.36\00:10:33.19 that God had given them, 00:10:33.23\00:10:34.60 even though they only had a little bit of funds. 00:10:34.63\00:10:38.63 Sometimes today, I think we are too constrained 00:10:38.67\00:10:41.50 by our circumstances 00:10:41.54\00:10:42.97 and if the plan is manifested the same hesitancy 00:10:43.00\00:10:46.31 that we often have, 00:10:46.34\00:10:47.81 I wonder if the work would ever have got going. 00:10:47.84\00:10:51.48 God is looking for people today, 00:10:51.51\00:10:53.48 who will step out in faith, 00:10:53.52\00:10:55.25 who will follow the counsel that He has given 00:10:55.28\00:10:57.59 and seek to accomplish great things in these times 00:10:57.62\00:11:01.12 in which we're living. 00:11:01.16\00:11:02.99 The work had begun in Melbourne 00:11:31.22\00:11:33.29 and the school was growing, 00:11:33.32\00:11:35.02 but the council had been given 00:11:35.06\00:11:36.73 that this was not to be a permanent location 00:11:36.76\00:11:39.66 and they were to move out of the city 00:11:39.69\00:11:41.73 into the countryside. 00:11:41.76\00:11:43.40 A search committee was appointed 00:11:43.43\00:11:45.30 but it was tough going. 00:11:45.33\00:11:47.04 The cost of suitable land 00:11:47.07\00:11:48.87 was too high for a small constituency 00:11:48.90\00:11:51.51 of only 1000 members, and in many places 00:11:51.54\00:11:54.68 they did not want a school on their land. 00:11:54.71\00:11:57.75 Eventually, they found a 1500 acre property 00:11:57.78\00:12:01.22 in Cooranbong, New South Wales 00:12:01.25\00:12:03.62 offered at a very reasonable price 00:12:03.65\00:12:05.92 of 14 shillings per acre. 00:12:05.95\00:12:08.59 After inspecting the soil, they were disappointed. 00:12:12.99\00:12:16.13 Some of the soil was good, but some was poor 00:12:16.16\00:12:18.53 and sandy and the committee was split, 00:12:18.57\00:12:20.94 some in favor and some opposing. 00:12:20.97\00:12:23.41 Ellen White was invited to review the land 00:12:23.44\00:12:25.67 and after two days of inspection and discussion, 00:12:25.71\00:12:28.81 she suggested that they pray 00:12:28.84\00:12:30.95 and ask God to give assurance 00:12:30.98\00:12:32.58 that it was the right location. 00:12:32.61\00:12:34.62 As they knelt to pray, Ellen White was impressed 00:12:34.65\00:12:36.82 to pray for the healing of one of the members present 00:12:36.85\00:12:39.62 who was rapidly declining with tuberculosis. 00:12:39.65\00:12:42.96 After they prayed, 00:12:42.99\00:12:44.33 Elder Stephen McCullough said that 00:12:44.36\00:12:45.96 he had felt a feeling passed through his body 00:12:45.99\00:12:48.33 like an electric wave. 00:12:48.36\00:12:50.20 Ellen White said, "The Lord is here. 00:12:50.23\00:12:52.93 This is the evidence that it is the right place." 00:12:52.97\00:12:55.77 Also a few days before she visited the property, 00:13:00.54\00:13:03.38 she had a dream 00:13:03.41\00:13:04.75 where she saw a freshly turned furrow 00:13:04.78\00:13:07.32 and two men examining the soil. 00:13:07.35\00:13:09.72 They said this is not good land, 00:13:09.75\00:13:12.05 the soil is not favorable. 00:13:12.09\00:13:14.22 Ellen then looked up and saw her angel. 00:13:14.26\00:13:17.03 He said, "False witness has been borne 00:13:17.06\00:13:19.66 against this land." 00:13:19.69\00:13:21.16 He then went on to explain the science of the soil. 00:13:21.20\00:13:24.60 As the days and weeks passed on, 00:13:30.24\00:13:32.41 some of those present began to weaken 00:13:32.44\00:13:34.88 and question the quality of the soil. 00:13:34.91\00:13:37.15 And so it was proposed to get a government inspector 00:13:37.18\00:13:39.91 out to look at the soil. 00:13:39.95\00:13:41.75 Mr. A.H. Benson inspected the soil 00:13:41.78\00:13:44.55 and later on over dinner, 00:13:44.59\00:13:46.22 he commented that the soil was useless 00:13:46.25\00:13:49.16 and there will be better of forfeiting their deposit 00:13:49.19\00:13:51.83 than going ahead with the purchase. 00:13:51.86\00:13:54.16 He said that if a bandicoot or a small rabbit 00:13:54.20\00:13:56.90 was to cross this particular tract of land, 00:13:56.93\00:13:59.43 he would find it necessary to carry his lunch with him. 00:13:59.47\00:14:03.27 After he wrote his report, it was shown to Ellen White, 00:14:07.64\00:14:11.18 to which she replied, 00:14:11.21\00:14:12.61 "Is there not a God in Israel to inquire of 00:14:12.65\00:14:15.22 that we must go to the God of Ekron." 00:14:15.25\00:14:17.65 She went on to tell the brethren 00:14:17.69\00:14:19.59 that they could continue looking for a new site 00:14:19.62\00:14:21.69 if they wanted to, and if they found something 00:14:21.72\00:14:23.66 suitable to show her, 00:14:23.69\00:14:25.33 but her heart was at peace with the current location. 00:14:25.36\00:14:28.60 The leaders decided 00:14:28.63\00:14:29.96 to move ahead with the purchase. 00:14:30.00\00:14:31.37 The next challenge was to find the money and to build. 00:14:31.40\00:14:34.37 The first building built was literally out of the land 00:14:40.44\00:14:44.11 and it was a small dormitory, dining room and kitchen. 00:14:44.15\00:14:47.68 Short on funds, they asked 00:14:47.72\00:14:49.25 for volunteers to finish the work. 00:14:49.28\00:14:51.49 And amongst those who responded 00:14:51.52\00:14:53.59 was S.N. Haskell and his wife Hetty. 00:14:53.62\00:14:56.32 Working at night, one would hold the candle 00:14:56.36\00:14:59.03 while the other would drive in the nails. 00:14:59.06\00:15:01.46 Ellen commented that the women worked 00:15:01.50\00:15:03.63 until the hands blistered 00:15:03.67\00:15:05.23 and they would rub vaseline on, so they could continue working. 00:15:05.27\00:15:08.80 And thus the college was built amidst toil, 00:15:08.84\00:15:11.77 sacrifice and hardship by the new 00:15:11.81\00:15:14.54 and small church in Australia. 00:15:14.58\00:15:16.98 April the 28th, 1897, so the first day 00:15:23.02\00:15:27.19 for the Avondale School for Christian workers, 00:15:27.22\00:15:29.79 and they started 00:15:29.82\00:15:31.16 with four teachers and 10 students, 00:15:31.19\00:15:33.53 rising to 60 by the end of the first term. 00:15:33.56\00:15:36.87 Truly it can be said, 00:15:36.90\00:15:38.47 who has despised the day of small things? 00:15:38.50\00:15:41.77 Despite the small number of students and staff 00:15:41.80\00:15:44.71 this school would go on to have a huge impact 00:15:44.74\00:15:47.28 in the South Pacific and key to the many missionaries 00:15:47.31\00:15:50.78 who went to the surrounding islands. 00:15:50.81\00:15:52.98 In 1911 the name would change 00:15:53.01\00:15:55.58 to the Australasian Missionary College, 00:15:55.62\00:15:57.82 and in 1964 the name 00:15:57.85\00:16:00.12 would change again to Avondale College. 00:16:00.16\00:16:03.43 The school was built on land 00:16:07.76\00:16:09.76 that the government deemed to be unusable. 00:16:09.80\00:16:12.30 And yet this prediction proved to be untrue. 00:16:12.33\00:16:15.24 God always knows best and allowing Him 00:16:15.27\00:16:17.67 to lead in our decisions whether that's personal 00:16:17.71\00:16:20.58 or church wide is always the best way 00:16:20.61\00:16:23.95 even when it seems to make no sense to us. 00:16:23.98\00:16:27.25 May we be sensitive to His Spirit 00:16:27.28\00:16:29.58 and able to tell His voice as He leads us. 00:16:29.62\00:16:32.75 When I was growing up, if you wanted to study history 00:16:36.89\00:16:39.33 or do research on a particular topic, 00:16:39.36\00:16:41.53 there was really only one option 00:16:41.56\00:16:43.30 that we had and that was to read a book. 00:16:43.33\00:16:45.93 And I never really used to like reading that much. 00:16:45.97\00:16:48.14 So we decided to create a resource 00:16:48.17\00:16:50.11 that will translate this written information 00:16:50.14\00:16:52.27 into the language of today. 00:16:52.31\00:16:56.14 My name is Adam Ramadan. And my name is Clive Coutet. 00:16:56.18\00:16:58.81 And we are the cofounders of Lineage Journey. 00:16:58.85\00:17:01.62 Back in 2016, I was reading a Great Controversy 00:17:01.65\00:17:04.15 and I was really struggling 00:17:04.19\00:17:05.52 to find any relevant video resources 00:17:05.55\00:17:07.42 that I could use to aid me in my study. 00:17:07.46\00:17:09.32 So I decided to approach Adam about the possibility 00:17:09.36\00:17:11.63 of making some videos on the Reformation. 00:17:11.66\00:17:14.00 So we started filming in the end of 2016, 00:17:14.03\00:17:17.03 and in 2017 we released 48 videos 00:17:17.07\00:17:20.67 that covered the period of the early church 00:17:20.70\00:17:23.07 all the way through to the end of the Reformation. 00:17:23.10\00:17:26.31 Then in 2018 and 2019 00:17:26.34\00:17:28.24 we released another 52 episodes on church history. 00:17:28.28\00:17:31.88 These have now been viewed all over the world 00:17:31.91\00:17:34.62 in over 100 countries 00:17:34.65\00:17:36.12 covering about 50 different languages 00:17:36.15\00:17:38.42 and we have over 3 million views online. 00:17:38.45\00:17:41.79 These videos have been used as a resource 00:17:41.82\00:17:43.96 in both secular and Christian schools 00:17:43.99\00:17:46.33 as well as several church denominations 00:17:46.36\00:17:48.63 across the globe using Bible studies, 00:17:48.66\00:17:51.10 study groups, 00:17:51.13\00:17:52.47 as well as play to the general congregation. 00:17:52.50\00:17:54.24 They also make a great online evangelistic tool 00:17:54.27\00:17:57.21 where people aren't able to share them, 00:17:57.24\00:17:58.77 and we've seen them go into countries 00:17:58.81\00:18:00.14 that we ourselves can't go, 00:18:00.18\00:18:01.54 countries that are Muslim countries 00:18:01.58\00:18:03.14 where the Christian message cannot go. 00:18:03.18\00:18:05.81 One of the challenges we have, though, 00:18:05.85\00:18:07.55 is that amongst our team of almost 10 people, 00:18:07.58\00:18:09.65 we are all volunteers on this project, 00:18:09.68\00:18:11.75 sacrificing our time, our effort and energy 00:18:11.79\00:18:14.12 in order to make these resources together. 00:18:14.16\00:18:16.76 Just to put things into perspective, 00:18:16.79\00:18:18.56 each Lineage episode as well as the filming 00:18:18.59\00:18:21.13 takes an additional two to three days 00:18:21.16\00:18:23.13 in post-production. 00:18:23.16\00:18:24.50 That is a lot of time and sacrifice 00:18:24.53\00:18:26.50 that this team has made 00:18:26.53\00:18:27.87 in putting 100 episodes together. 00:18:27.90\00:18:29.60 So we need to raise the funds 00:18:29.64\00:18:31.07 to cover the cost of the filming 00:18:31.11\00:18:32.77 as well as the continued production costs 00:18:32.81\00:18:35.64 that come after that. 00:18:35.68\00:18:37.01 So for as little as $1 a month, 00:18:37.05\00:18:38.98 you can help us to expand 00:18:39.01\00:18:40.35 this ministry to create new resources 00:18:40.38\00:18:42.72 to reach more people across the world. 00:18:42.75\00:18:45.05 Thank you for visiting this page 00:18:45.09\00:18:46.82 and taking the time to watch this video. 00:18:46.86\00:18:48.92 We really appreciate that. 00:18:48.96\00:18:50.43 Thank you for your support of the ministry so far. 00:18:50.46\00:18:52.89 And we ask that you would prayerfully consider 00:18:52.93\00:18:55.20 being a partner with us on this Patreon page. 00:18:55.23\00:18:58.73 May God bless you. 00:18:58.77\00:19:00.10 And we ask that you continue to keep this ministry 00:19:00.14\00:19:02.40 and our future plans in prayer. 00:19:02.44\00:19:04.61 When the land was purchased for a new school in Cooranbong, 00:19:21.39\00:19:24.99 the vision was to sell some of the land surrounding it 00:19:25.03\00:19:28.03 to families associated with the school. 00:19:28.06\00:19:30.67 In order to show her faith in the project 00:19:30.70\00:19:33.27 Ellen White was the first to negotiate for land, 00:19:33.30\00:19:36.14 for a home, garden and orchard 00:19:36.17\00:19:38.71 and show 16 hectors or 40 acres. 00:19:38.74\00:19:41.71 This home once built would be her place of residence 00:19:47.35\00:19:50.99 from 1896 to 1900. 00:19:51.02\00:19:54.12 While the home was being built, 00:19:54.16\00:19:55.92 Ellen White stayed on site to ensure that 00:19:55.96\00:19:58.43 it was done correctly but also to help out, 00:19:58.46\00:20:01.56 helping to clear the land, driving her own two horse team 00:20:01.60\00:20:05.50 and planting trees all at the age of 68. 00:20:05.53\00:20:08.84 Establishing a home in the bush wasn't easy 00:20:14.04\00:20:17.28 and it took a lot of hard work to get the land 00:20:17.31\00:20:20.32 from what it looked like on arrival 00:20:20.35\00:20:22.22 to what it looks like today. 00:20:22.25\00:20:24.12 Kangaroos and other wild native animals 00:20:24.15\00:20:27.12 roamed freely 00:20:27.16\00:20:28.49 and it was necessary to get a good watchdog. 00:20:28.52\00:20:31.33 Tiglath Pileser was named after an Assyrian king 00:20:31.36\00:20:35.00 who had a reputation 00:20:35.03\00:20:36.36 for being cutthroat and ruthless. 00:20:36.40\00:20:39.20 Ellen loved the climate here saying that 00:20:39.23\00:20:41.77 it was beautiful and the best that she had experienced. 00:20:41.80\00:20:45.44 Due to the frequent sunshine 00:20:45.47\00:20:47.31 she named this particular home Sunnyside. 00:20:47.34\00:20:50.81 The stories that happened here in this house 00:20:54.48\00:20:57.15 and in this area are many and her influence was great. 00:20:57.19\00:21:01.42 Not just as a church leader but also as a community leader. 00:21:01.46\00:21:05.86 There is one instance where children in the area 00:21:05.89\00:21:09.20 were stealing clothing off the washing line. 00:21:09.23\00:21:11.77 Rather than letting the authorities deal with it, 00:21:11.80\00:21:14.50 Ellen White went around to the houses 00:21:14.54\00:21:16.50 and arranged the whole sewing classes 00:21:16.54\00:21:18.21 with the mothers, 00:21:18.24\00:21:19.57 teaching them how to better their lives. 00:21:19.61\00:21:22.08 Her faith was not just theoretical, 00:21:22.11\00:21:24.58 but it was practical, demonstrating the love of Jesus 00:21:24.61\00:21:28.12 to those whom she met. 00:21:28.15\00:21:30.35 One of the most significant accomplishments of our time 00:21:34.39\00:21:37.56 here in this house 00:21:37.59\00:21:38.93 was a completion of the masterpiece, 00:21:38.96\00:21:40.90 the Desire of Ages. 00:21:40.93\00:21:42.90 This book starts with the birth of Jesus 00:21:42.93\00:21:45.20 and goes through to His ascension 00:21:45.23\00:21:47.20 and records in vivid detail using the best language 00:21:47.24\00:21:51.01 possible every aspect of Jesus' life. 00:21:51.04\00:21:54.14 Taken advantage of the pleasant climate 00:21:54.18\00:21:56.44 here at Sunnyside some of this book 00:21:56.48\00:21:58.55 was written under a tree outside. 00:21:58.58\00:22:01.38 This book has changed countless lives over the years, 00:22:01.42\00:22:05.42 other books that were completed during her time here 00:22:05.45\00:22:08.39 are Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing 00:22:08.42\00:22:10.29 and Christ's Object Lessons. 00:22:10.33\00:22:12.89 One of the pioneer evangelists in Australia, 00:22:18.10\00:22:21.00 Pastor J.B. Conley spoke how once 00:22:21.04\00:22:23.77 when his family was in a time of need, 00:22:23.81\00:22:26.14 Ellen White immediately harnessed her horse 00:22:26.17\00:22:29.21 and went and visited them. 00:22:29.24\00:22:31.01 She brought fruit from her own garden 00:22:31.05\00:22:33.38 as well as encouraged them. 00:22:33.42\00:22:35.25 Numerous other individuals and families also experienced 00:22:35.28\00:22:39.55 Ellen White helping them out during her time here. 00:22:39.59\00:22:43.09 Ellen White's time in Australia 00:22:47.46\00:22:49.26 would have a huge impact on the church 00:22:49.30\00:22:51.43 here as a comprehensive foundation 00:22:51.47\00:22:53.84 and structure was put in place. 00:22:53.87\00:22:56.17 However, she never lost her passion 00:22:56.20\00:22:58.17 for helping people out and demonstrating practically 00:22:58.21\00:23:01.88 the love of Jesus in her neighborhood. 00:23:01.91\00:23:04.35 Unfortunately, too often too many of us 00:23:04.38\00:23:06.78 have been introduced 00:23:06.82\00:23:08.15 to Ellen White through the words, 00:23:08.18\00:23:09.52 Ellen White says, followed by a rebuke or a counsel. 00:23:09.55\00:23:12.65 But the Ellen White who lived here 00:23:12.69\00:23:14.62 always saw to reflect Jesus practically in all she did. 00:23:14.66\00:23:18.99 May we get to know this side of Ellen White as well. 00:23:19.03\00:23:21.83 And may we reflect Jesus in our lives 00:23:21.86\00:23:24.67 wherever we may be. 00:23:24.70\00:23:26.03 Nathaniel Faulkhead had a good reputation 00:23:45.39\00:23:47.66 as a businessman. 00:23:47.69\00:23:49.02 And so soon after he was baptized 00:23:49.06\00:23:50.53 in 1886 or 1887, 00:23:50.56\00:23:53.26 he was named the treasurer at the Echo Publishing House. 00:23:53.29\00:23:56.36 His work was good and the results were favorable. 00:23:56.40\00:23:59.13 However, there was another side to him. 00:23:59.17\00:24:01.94 He was also a prominent member of the Masons 00:24:01.97\00:24:04.77 and several other secret organizations. 00:24:04.81\00:24:07.38 And saw no reason why he needed to resign 00:24:07.41\00:24:09.64 from these organizations 00:24:09.68\00:24:11.01 when he became a Seventh-day Adventist. 00:24:11.05\00:24:13.62 However, his interest 00:24:13.65\00:24:14.98 in the work of God began to fade 00:24:15.02\00:24:17.12 and his friends were concerned for his spiritual wellbeing. 00:24:17.15\00:24:20.96 Soon after Ellen White arrived in Australia in 1891, 00:24:24.59\00:24:28.46 she was given a detailed vision 00:24:28.50\00:24:30.20 of the situation here at the Echo Publishing House 00:24:30.23\00:24:33.30 and wrote the entire vision out including a testimony 00:24:33.34\00:24:36.87 from Nathaniel Faulkhead which was 50 pages in length. 00:24:36.91\00:24:40.21 Something told her at that time 00:24:40.24\00:24:41.71 not to send it though as it would not be accepted. 00:24:41.74\00:24:44.81 Soon after this J.H. Stockton, 00:24:44.85\00:24:47.22 a fellow worker asked Nathaniel what he would do 00:24:47.25\00:24:50.22 if Ellen White had a testimony for him. 00:24:50.25\00:24:52.52 He replied, "Well, 00:24:52.55\00:24:53.89 it would have to be pretty strong 00:24:53.92\00:24:55.46 for me to believe that it came from God." 00:24:55.49\00:24:57.93 Not long after this Nathaniel dream 00:25:03.63\00:25:06.00 that the Lord had prepared a message for him 00:25:06.03\00:25:08.44 through Sister White. 00:25:08.47\00:25:09.80 And so the next time he saw her, 00:25:09.84\00:25:11.81 he asked her if she had a message for him. 00:25:11.84\00:25:14.54 She was tired and said that 00:25:14.58\00:25:16.01 she would share it with him later, 00:25:16.04\00:25:17.65 but he insisted and so in spite for her fatigue 00:25:17.68\00:25:20.75 she shared the 50 page testimony with him. 00:25:20.78\00:25:23.82 As she was doing so, 00:25:23.85\00:25:25.35 she made signs and gestures 00:25:25.39\00:25:27.29 that only members of a Masonic lodge knew. 00:25:27.32\00:25:30.49 Nathaniel interrupted her 00:25:30.53\00:25:32.29 and asked her if she knew what she was doing. 00:25:32.33\00:25:34.33 And if she had done anything unusual, 00:25:34.36\00:25:36.87 she said no. 00:25:36.90\00:25:38.60 She spoke on and made another sign 00:25:43.51\00:25:45.67 that she later said her attending angel 00:25:45.71\00:25:47.94 made her do. 00:25:47.98\00:25:49.31 Nathaniel turned pale, 00:25:49.34\00:25:50.75 he had only learned this a few days previous 00:25:50.78\00:25:53.42 and it was known to only six people 00:25:53.45\00:25:55.62 in the whole of Australia. 00:25:55.65\00:25:57.42 There was no way a woman could know the sign. 00:25:57.45\00:26:00.62 As she continued the conversation, 00:26:00.66\00:26:02.39 she made another sign. 00:26:02.42\00:26:03.96 And Nathaniel remembered the conversation 00:26:03.99\00:26:05.99 he had had with J.H. Stockton a few days previous 00:26:06.03\00:26:09.66 and he was fully convinced 00:26:09.70\00:26:11.23 that this testimony was from God. 00:26:11.27\00:26:14.00 Finally, after speaking for more than three hours, 00:26:20.58\00:26:23.58 God prevailed and Nathaniel surrendered everything to Him 00:26:23.61\00:26:27.22 and made a vow which he kept 00:26:27.25\00:26:28.85 that he would resign from all the secret societies 00:26:28.88\00:26:31.49 that he was a member of. 00:26:31.52\00:26:33.02 God used perhaps the most unlikely thing 00:26:33.05\00:26:35.69 to capture this man's attention and reach through to his heart. 00:26:35.72\00:26:39.33 God meets us where we are in ways 00:26:39.36\00:26:42.13 that will grab our attention but maybe not someone else's. 00:26:42.16\00:26:45.83 Today, we might not have 00:26:45.87\00:26:47.27 a living, breathing, live prophet 00:26:47.30\00:26:49.70 but we still have God's inspired Word 00:26:49.74\00:26:52.07 and His Holy Spirit still speaks to our heart. 00:26:52.11\00:26:55.31 May we be sensitive, 00:26:55.34\00:26:56.71 may we heed the admonitions in the scriptures 00:26:56.75\00:26:59.28 and may we listen to the Holy Spirit 00:26:59.31\00:27:01.32 when He speaks to us in a still small voice. 00:27:01.35\00:27:03.89
