Welcome back to the Liberty Insider. 00:00:01.36\00:00:02.70 Before the break, 00:00:02.73\00:00:04.07 I was in a long build up to full of discussion 00:00:04.10\00:00:07.97 of a document called Laudato si'. 00:00:08.00\00:00:11.37 That came out under this present pope, 00:00:11.41\00:00:15.21 Pope Francis. 00:00:15.24\00:00:18.68 And on one level, I must say before I get further into it, 00:00:18.71\00:00:22.35 I have to admire Rome 00:00:22.38\00:00:26.65 and this particular pope 00:00:26.69\00:00:28.02 for bringing out a concern on this topic. 00:00:28.06\00:00:32.36 As I was trying to say before the break, 00:00:32.39\00:00:35.40 it's not serving the world well for people to deny 00:00:35.43\00:00:38.73 that there is something dangerous 00:00:38.77\00:00:42.17 for everybody's safety 00:00:42.20\00:00:43.81 in global weather change patterns. 00:00:43.84\00:00:46.84 There's something extreme, the Arctic is melting, 00:00:46.88\00:00:51.15 the ice is melting, the ice pack is melting. 00:00:51.18\00:00:53.85 Probably sea level rises. 00:00:53.88\00:00:57.52 And there are many cities in the world, 00:00:57.55\00:01:00.39 a threat for millions of people if the water rises just inches, 00:01:00.42\00:01:04.56 forget, you know, tens of feet. 00:01:04.59\00:01:07.26 But remember, 00:01:07.30\00:01:08.83 if the sea level rises say one foot, 00:01:08.86\00:01:14.67 that could just flood a few houses, 00:01:14.70\00:01:16.40 but when the storm surges, 00:01:16.44\00:01:18.41 when there are major storms 00:01:18.44\00:01:19.77 that difference can be accelerated 00:01:19.81\00:01:21.44 or become the difference 00:01:21.48\00:01:22.81 between just lapping on the houses 00:01:22.84\00:01:24.98 on the front street or sweeping back and, 00:01:25.01\00:01:28.15 and submerging most of the city. 00:01:28.18\00:01:31.35 So we, you know, we're in a difficult spot. 00:01:31.39\00:01:35.42 And I do think that it's a good thing 00:01:35.46\00:01:39.63 that a major church 00:01:39.66\00:01:41.56 is putting its prestige on the line 00:01:41.60\00:01:44.73 to raise the awareness on environmental concern. 00:01:44.77\00:01:49.10 I'm just certain in myself, 00:01:49.14\00:01:52.81 unfortunately, that given the claims of Rome, 00:01:52.84\00:01:56.18 given its political involvement, 00:01:56.21\00:01:58.35 giving its unceasing 00:01:58.38\00:02:03.05 chasing of dominance, 00:02:03.08\00:02:04.75 that it probably will not be good 00:02:04.79\00:02:07.82 for religious liberty. 00:02:07.86\00:02:11.73 But let me explain the logic of the document again. 00:02:11.76\00:02:15.06 It starts by... 00:02:15.10\00:02:16.77 As I previously said, 00:02:16.80\00:02:18.23 talking about the earth is like our little sister 00:02:18.27\00:02:20.50 who's dying, 00:02:20.54\00:02:21.87 but then, 00:02:21.90\00:02:23.24 after taking care of the pagan mysticism, 00:02:23.27\00:02:28.21 the Vestal Virgin type approach, 00:02:28.24\00:02:31.95 and I'm sure, that's why it's there. 00:02:31.98\00:02:33.75 We all sort of think of mother earth, 00:02:33.78\00:02:35.75 I can remember the ad for margarine years ago. 00:02:35.78\00:02:41.09 They had a woman dressed up as mother earth 00:02:41.12\00:02:43.46 and tastes the good butter and she says, 00:02:43.49\00:02:46.09 "Oh, this is my natural butter" 00:02:46.13\00:02:47.70 and they said, "It's margarine." 00:02:47.73\00:02:49.06 It's not good to deceive mother earth 00:02:49.10\00:02:52.53 she says, mother nature. 00:02:52.57\00:02:55.04 So this is an elemental appeal, 00:02:55.07\00:02:56.91 the Bible says the elemental spirits, 00:02:56.94\00:02:59.34 but then it moves a little further 00:02:59.37\00:03:02.34 and it starts quoting the Bible texts. 00:03:02.38\00:03:05.48 And very well I think, 00:03:05.51\00:03:08.02 because it says "In respecting creation 00:03:08.05\00:03:11.29 it's necessary to rediscover the rhythms 00:03:11.32\00:03:14.49 inscribed in nature by the Creator." 00:03:14.52\00:03:17.59 What would those rhythms be? 00:03:19.03\00:03:20.36 The Bible talks about from new moon to new moon, 00:03:22.00\00:03:24.53 from harvest to harvest, the cycle of the years, 00:03:24.57\00:03:27.57 the seasons, 00:03:27.60\00:03:29.80 but it also consistently speaks about the weekly cycle, 00:03:29.84\00:03:34.38 and from Sabbath unto Sabbath. 00:03:34.41\00:03:36.18 In fact, the promise is in, even in the new earth, 00:03:36.21\00:03:40.52 after everything is set right by Christ 00:03:40.55\00:03:43.65 and His eternal kingdom is established, 00:03:43.69\00:03:45.75 it says "They will come up from Sabbath 00:03:45.79\00:03:48.69 on unto Sabbath to worship in My holy mountain," 00:03:48.72\00:03:52.99 says the Lord. 00:03:53.03\00:03:54.36 You know, it's an interesting figure 00:03:54.40\00:03:55.93 and this document relates it to our present emergency. 00:03:55.96\00:03:58.87 It says, we need to see this natural rhythm 00:03:58.90\00:04:03.51 that the Creator has put in creation to save it. 00:04:03.54\00:04:07.91 And it says along those lines, 00:04:07.94\00:04:09.94 rest on the seventh-day Sabbath 00:04:09.98\00:04:12.81 is important, interesting. 00:04:12.85\00:04:16.48 Seventh-day Adventists might prick their ears up, 00:04:16.52\00:04:19.95 because we've always 00:04:19.99\00:04:21.56 from the beginning of our organization, 00:04:21.59\00:04:23.73 when we were organized after the Millerite movement, 00:04:23.76\00:04:26.83 we've known the importance, 00:04:26.86\00:04:28.20 we were convince biblically 00:04:28.23\00:04:31.07 of the importance of rediscovering 00:04:31.10\00:04:33.60 or going back to keeping the seventh-day Sabbath. 00:04:33.64\00:04:37.41 But Rome hasn't ever acknowledged that. 00:04:37.44\00:04:42.38 Sunday is the day 00:04:42.41\00:04:43.75 and as I said in another program, 00:04:43.78\00:04:48.82 on the document Dies Domini, 00:04:48.85\00:04:52.42 they said that the early Christians 00:04:52.45\00:04:54.46 didn't have any direct instructions 00:04:54.49\00:04:57.09 to change from Saturday to Sunday, 00:04:57.13\00:04:59.09 but they felt they had the authority 00:04:59.13\00:05:01.20 so they shifted it. 00:05:01.23\00:05:02.56 And people feel quite comfortable with it. 00:05:02.60\00:05:04.87 And we know that there was an element of Christianity 00:05:04.90\00:05:08.67 under Rome, 00:05:08.70\00:05:10.41 or under the Roman Empire, 00:05:10.44\00:05:11.77 particularly wanting to differentiate itself 00:05:11.81\00:05:14.28 from Jewishness, 00:05:14.31\00:05:16.21 wanted to make it western 00:05:16.24\00:05:17.58 or more palatable to the pagans 00:05:17.61\00:05:20.75 and to the non Jews, Sunday is suited. 00:05:20.78\00:05:23.75 Sunday was already a, you know, a heathen day of the sun. 00:05:23.79\00:05:28.82 There are lots of reasons, it's easy to explain, 00:05:28.86\00:05:32.36 harder to explain though 00:05:32.39\00:05:33.73 why now Rome is absolutely accepting these texts 00:05:33.76\00:05:37.33 and not challenging. 00:05:37.37\00:05:38.70 So it says along those lines, Sabbath day. 00:05:38.73\00:05:40.60 Then it says it's not a mere anthem for, 00:05:40.64\00:05:43.41 you know, it's not a matter of just man only. 00:05:43.44\00:05:45.97 It says it's rest for creation, 00:05:46.01\00:05:48.21 for the animals, for everything. 00:05:48.24\00:05:50.85 And a number of times it comes back 00:05:50.88\00:05:53.55 and reiterates the commands in the Bible 00:05:53.58\00:05:56.62 to keep the seventh-day Sabbath. 00:05:56.65\00:05:59.02 And only about two-thirds of the way 00:05:59.05\00:06:01.56 through this very long document about 120, 130 pages, 00:06:01.59\00:06:05.96 does it say that "In keeping the Eucharistic Sunday, 00:06:05.99\00:06:09.50 we're essentially keeping the seventh-day Sabbath." 00:06:09.53\00:06:13.67 Well, it seems to me rhythm is very important 00:06:13.70\00:06:16.20 and you jog rhythm slightly and it's not in rhythm anymore, 00:06:16.24\00:06:19.87 you know, an earth 00:06:19.91\00:06:21.54 that's spinning a little if you tap it, 00:06:21.58\00:06:23.78 or if you change the cycle slightly, 00:06:23.81\00:06:26.11 it'll wobble. 00:06:26.15\00:06:27.48 So it's illogical 00:06:27.52\00:06:29.48 but consistent with the Sunday observance. 00:06:29.52\00:06:33.66 So as a Seventh-day Adventist, 00:06:33.69\00:06:37.29 as someone concerned about religious liberty, 00:06:37.33\00:06:40.16 as somebody very concerned about the environment, again, 00:06:40.20\00:06:44.33 as a Seventh-day Adventist 00:06:44.37\00:06:45.70 we should have been front and center 00:06:45.73\00:06:47.50 in speaking about the environment though 00:06:47.54\00:06:49.10 that I am quite certain 00:06:49.14\00:06:51.51 that this document is going to push the world 00:06:51.54\00:06:56.04 into religious absolutism. 00:06:56.08\00:06:58.81 I do expect and hope 00:06:58.85\00:07:01.35 that the Sabbath will be discussed 00:07:01.38\00:07:03.32 again globally, I'm sure of it. 00:07:03.35\00:07:05.52 The pope, as you would expect 00:07:05.55\00:07:07.72 is not letting this matter ride. 00:07:07.76\00:07:10.76 There was a plan 00:07:10.79\00:07:12.39 and I don't know when this program will come out 00:07:12.43\00:07:14.73 but the next meeting in Rome, 00:07:14.76\00:07:16.67 as many world leaders will come, 00:07:16.70\00:07:19.03 as I remember is set for May. 00:07:19.07\00:07:23.44 There will be others 00:07:23.47\00:07:24.91 and I expect that some of these, 00:07:24.94\00:07:27.04 one of these meetings, 00:07:27.08\00:07:28.41 the US will be front and center 00:07:28.44\00:07:29.98 and pushing in connection with Rome, 00:07:30.01\00:07:33.55 but at the moment the US is a holdout. 00:07:33.58\00:07:35.85 But there is a groundswell of support for this. 00:07:35.88\00:07:39.75 And not just from religionists, 00:07:39.79\00:07:41.56 remember Greta Thornburg, 00:07:41.59\00:07:42.92 this young teen activist from Scandinavia, 00:07:42.96\00:07:47.80 created a lot of interest all around the world, 00:07:47.83\00:07:50.97 and I noticed, even in Islamic countries. 00:07:51.00\00:07:54.24 They were seeing it as their religious duty 00:07:54.27\00:07:56.84 to support the ecological movement. 00:07:56.87\00:08:00.24 There is a groundswell and as she stood before the UN, 00:08:00.28\00:08:02.48 she says "How dare you take away our future 00:08:02.51\00:08:05.08 and deny the reality of this." 00:08:05.11\00:08:07.08 I think this is an unstoppable movement 00:08:07.12\00:08:10.69 of self preservation 00:08:10.72\00:08:12.35 that Rome correctly has seen 00:08:12.39\00:08:14.56 to have a theological implication 00:08:14.59\00:08:16.93 and is going to throw its political pressure behind, 00:08:16.96\00:08:20.76 it's as much influence as it can gain and yet, 00:08:20.80\00:08:25.20 as a Seventh-day Adventist Protestant Christian, 00:08:25.23\00:08:27.40 I know that there's this fatal flaw, 00:08:27.44\00:08:30.47 actually two fatal flaws that work here. 00:08:30.51\00:08:33.27 First of all, in recognizing the seventh-day Sabbath, 00:08:33.31\00:08:36.85 then it twists it to Sunday. 00:08:36.88\00:08:39.48 If the rhythm inscribed in nature 00:08:39.51\00:08:41.88 was so important by God 00:08:41.92\00:08:43.52 that He specified a day, it's... 00:08:43.55\00:08:46.96 can hardly be inconsequential 00:08:46.99\00:08:49.22 that man moves it to another day. 00:08:49.26\00:08:51.63 And then the other fatal flaw, 00:08:51.66\00:08:53.19 which has always been an allure 00:08:53.23\00:08:56.63 for megalithic religious power 00:08:56.67\00:09:00.40 is to use its moral influence 00:09:00.44\00:09:04.21 in a politically abusive way 00:09:04.24\00:09:07.01 to compel and it's very significant to me 00:09:07.04\00:09:10.38 that at the very end of time, 00:09:10.41\00:09:12.51 and Revelation speaks about people 00:09:12.55\00:09:16.55 not being able to buy or sell 00:09:16.58\00:09:18.15 unless they get a certain mark of compliance 00:09:18.19\00:09:22.02 with the requirements of a major world power. 00:09:22.06\00:09:26.19 This might be it, this might be it. 00:09:26.23\00:09:29.23 And I do believe 00:09:29.26\00:09:30.60 that the language of these documents, 00:09:30.63\00:09:32.73 starting with Ad Tuendam Fidem, 00:09:32.77\00:09:37.97 and particularly Memory and Reconciliation, 00:09:38.01\00:09:40.61 and Caritas in veritate, 00:09:40.64\00:09:42.81 they're increasing the logic for compulsion to a good thing 00:09:42.84\00:09:47.25 for our survival. 00:09:47.28\00:09:49.75 And that will be a hard call 00:09:49.78\00:09:52.52 for independently minded people, 00:09:52.55\00:09:55.16 knowing that God created us 00:09:55.19\00:09:56.76 with this moral independence to resist. 00:09:56.79\00:10:00.50 It's very likely, as the Bible says, 00:10:00.53\00:10:04.83 that essentially the whole world 00:10:04.87\00:10:06.67 will be given over to a deception 00:10:06.70\00:10:09.70 and to an obvious necessity of survival, 00:10:09.74\00:10:12.94 but a deception nevertheless. 00:10:12.97\00:10:15.71 And as I read my Bible, as I read prophecy, 00:10:15.74\00:10:18.31 after I look at the different players, 00:10:18.35\00:10:20.48 including an old power, weakened, 00:10:20.52\00:10:24.72 several hundred years ago, 00:10:24.75\00:10:26.09 but strengthening again 00:10:26.12\00:10:27.46 in political and religious influence, 00:10:27.49\00:10:29.26 I think the convergence of necessity 00:10:29.29\00:10:32.39 is going to create a situation 00:10:32.43\00:10:34.53 where it will be very hard for the global powers 00:10:34.56\00:10:38.53 to resist the temptation 00:10:38.57\00:10:40.67 to compel people against their will, 00:10:40.70\00:10:43.74 to worship in a certain way, as they say, 00:10:43.77\00:10:47.04 "For the survival of our species," 00:10:47.08\00:10:50.25 but it probably will be wrong 00:10:50.28\00:10:53.11 and incredibly against 00:10:53.15\00:10:55.08 the principle of freedom of conscience. 00:10:55.12\00:10:58.69 I'll be back shortly. Stay with us. 00:10:58.72\00:11:00.89
