Welcome to the Liberty Insider. 00:00:26.22\00:00:27.72 This is a program that brings you up-to-date news 00:00:27.76\00:00:30.06 and discussion on religious liberty events 00:00:30.09\00:00:33.73 all around the world 00:00:33.76\00:00:35.10 but particularly in the United States. 00:00:35.13\00:00:36.46 My name is Lincoln Steed, editor of Liberty Magazine, 00:00:36.50\00:00:40.20 and my guest on the program, Greg Hamilton, 00:00:40.24\00:00:43.07 President of the Northwest Religious Liberty Association. 00:00:43.10\00:00:47.14 That's a big mouthful, but you do a lot... 00:00:47.18\00:00:48.91 So there's a long billing. 00:00:48.94\00:00:53.35 You know, these are crazy times 00:00:53.38\00:00:55.35 and I find that apart from prophecy 00:00:55.38\00:00:58.25 and the Bible which is core central 00:00:58.29\00:00:59.89 for any Christian to look at the world, 00:00:59.92\00:01:02.02 but history's a pretty good jumping off point 00:01:02.06\00:01:05.39 to understand the present. 00:01:05.43\00:01:06.76 You look at the past and while it doesn't repeat, 00:01:06.80\00:01:08.90 it sets you up for. 00:01:08.93\00:01:10.63 And I don't know about you, 00:01:10.67\00:01:12.00 but I have thought lately about some of the events, 00:01:12.03\00:01:14.77 turbulent events in Europe that preceded World War II. 00:01:14.80\00:01:19.17 And we've had political chaos of sorts 00:01:19.21\00:01:22.28 in the US of late 00:01:22.31\00:01:23.65 and I thought recently and even as far back as 9/11. 00:01:23.68\00:01:28.48 9/11 was only 16 years ago. 00:01:28.52\00:01:30.15 I know. 00:01:30.19\00:01:31.52 For me it's just yesterday but, 00:01:31.55\00:01:33.29 ask my daughter who was born in 2001. 00:01:33.32\00:01:34.79 Yes. Right, right. 00:01:34.82\00:01:37.49 Late in 2001, 00:01:37.53\00:01:40.73 you know, I thought about the Reichstag fire. 00:01:40.76\00:01:42.80 The Reichstag fire in Germany... 00:01:42.83\00:01:44.83 In Germany... 1933. 00:01:44.87\00:01:46.20 Which really... 00:01:46.23\00:01:47.70 I've read many books, scene many programs, 00:01:47.74\00:01:50.27 no one can say definitively who started it. 00:01:50.31\00:01:54.14 But everybody knows that was the catalyst 00:01:54.18\00:01:58.28 that created an opening for the Nazis 00:01:58.31\00:02:00.68 and for Adolf Hitler to have unquestioned power 00:02:00.72\00:02:03.89 and it just went downhill from there. 00:02:03.92\00:02:06.65 Yeah, and Hitler had just been elected 00:02:06.69\00:02:09.49 as head of government 00:02:09.52\00:02:10.86 and before it was all said and done. 00:02:10.89\00:02:12.26 As a compromise candidate 00:02:12.29\00:02:13.63 with not really overwhelming electoral support. 00:02:13.66\00:02:15.96 Before it was all said and done, 00:02:16.00\00:02:18.23 the parliament passed the enabling act... 00:02:18.27\00:02:20.87 Well, that was after the Reichstag 00:02:20.90\00:02:22.37 that's probably gave it to him. 00:02:22.40\00:02:23.91 Yeah, gave him the enabling act 00:02:23.94\00:02:25.27 that allowed him to rule by decree 00:02:25.31\00:02:27.31 and there began the dictatorship 00:02:27.34\00:02:30.41 and the fall of Weimar Republic in Germany's history. 00:02:30.45\00:02:34.88 And what's interesting the Weimar Republic 00:02:34.92\00:02:37.95 was making huge strides way ahead of its time 00:02:37.99\00:02:40.59 in terms of democratic reforms, 00:02:40.62\00:02:42.82 including civil rights, religious rights everything, 00:02:42.86\00:02:46.09 and Germany, the people for some reason especially 00:02:46.13\00:02:49.56 the Lutheran Church 00:02:49.60\00:02:50.93 which represented sort of the Christian right of the day, 00:02:50.97\00:02:53.00 and even the Catholic Church said, 00:02:53.03\00:02:55.60 you know, this doesn't line up with our sense of woundedness 00:02:55.64\00:02:59.14 and our sense of nationalism. 00:02:59.17\00:03:00.71 We need to make Germany great again. 00:03:00.74\00:03:03.55 And so, the way to do that was to do what? 00:03:03.58\00:03:07.08 Was to bring in the Nazis because and there go, 00:03:07.12\00:03:10.35 if you read this book by Robert Erickson 00:03:10.39\00:03:13.79 from Pacific Lutheran University, 00:03:13.82\00:03:15.59 he's going to be a guest speaker, 00:03:15.62\00:03:16.96 April 10th at Walla Walla University, 00:03:16.99\00:03:19.09 April 9th and 10th. 00:03:19.13\00:03:20.63 In fact, we're co-sponsoring his arrival 00:03:20.66\00:03:23.47 and paying some money and are providing our logo 00:03:23.50\00:03:28.50 for the advertisement everything... 00:03:28.54\00:03:30.21 You should ask him to come on this program. 00:03:30.24\00:03:32.34 That'll be good but he wrote a book called, 00:03:32.37\00:03:34.64 Complicity in the Holocaust: 00:03:34.68\00:03:36.21 Churches and Universities in Nazi Germany. 00:03:36.24\00:03:38.55 They were there's no question. 00:03:38.58\00:03:39.95 Well, the Lutheran Church essentially seized Hitler 00:03:39.98\00:03:44.25 and propped him up 00:03:44.29\00:03:45.62 and made him a national savior. 00:03:45.65\00:03:47.12 It was a Christian right 00:03:47.16\00:03:48.92 who elevated Hitler to his place 00:03:48.96\00:03:51.99 in the eyes of the German people. 00:03:52.03\00:03:54.06 And history is very plain, 00:03:54.10\00:03:55.43 you don't see these quotes anymore, 00:03:55.46\00:03:56.80 but you can go and look them up. 00:03:56.83\00:03:59.10 Hitler made some incredibly positive statements 00:03:59.13\00:04:01.37 about religion. 00:04:01.40\00:04:02.74 He said, The German state in the Nazi regime was founded, 00:04:02.77\00:04:06.11 absolutely founded on the Christian religion. 00:04:06.14\00:04:07.84 Right 00:04:07.88\00:04:09.21 Well, looking back on it, you know, 00:04:09.24\00:04:10.58 it couldn't be further from the truth, 00:04:10.61\00:04:11.95 but they said that and it was accepted. 00:04:11.98\00:04:13.38 And he loved to quote Romans 13:1-3 00:04:13.42\00:04:16.22 that the powers that be the rulers that be the, 00:04:16.25\00:04:19.15 you know, they're for your good and not bad 00:04:19.19\00:04:21.22 and you're told bathed him no matter what... 00:04:21.26\00:04:23.36 And remember fairly early on, he singed a concordat 00:04:23.39\00:04:27.86 with the Roman Catholic Church which was not just a treaty, 00:04:27.90\00:04:32.10 it was a concordat, it means a full agreement, 00:04:32.13\00:04:35.44 you know, so that he had the full backing 00:04:35.47\00:04:37.24 of the Roman Catholic Church, they liked his moral agenda. 00:04:37.27\00:04:40.88 Well, the Reichstag fire was interesting 00:04:40.91\00:04:42.51 because it serves as a warning. 00:04:42.54\00:04:44.38 Basically what Hitler and the Nazis did is, say, 00:04:44.41\00:04:47.85 this was a bunch of leftist terrorists 00:04:47.88\00:04:50.92 who burned down the Reichstag, 00:04:50.95\00:04:52.49 and therefore all you people need to, 00:04:52.52\00:04:55.09 you know, these people are terrorists 00:04:55.12\00:04:57.39 and therefore you need to back us. 00:04:57.43\00:04:59.49 So terrorism you could say 00:04:59.53\00:05:01.46 was the beginning of the downfall 00:05:01.50\00:05:03.16 of the Weimar Republic of the democratic experiment 00:05:03.20\00:05:05.20 in Germany. 00:05:05.23\00:05:06.57 And there's an article in The New York Review of Books 00:05:06.60\00:05:09.77 by Timothy Snyder 00:05:09.80\00:05:11.17 that just came out called the "Reichstag Warning" 00:05:11.21\00:05:13.84 about how that could so easily happen 00:05:13.88\00:05:16.85 with the propaganda and everything else, 00:05:16.88\00:05:18.48 so easily that could happen here, 00:05:18.51\00:05:20.32 right here in the United States of America. 00:05:20.35\00:05:22.28 Yeah. 00:05:22.32\00:05:23.72 I was watching a program 00:05:23.75\00:05:25.09 recently about the Hitler Youth groups 00:05:25.12\00:05:27.59 which were the only game in town 00:05:27.62\00:05:30.53 by the time the war began. 00:05:30.56\00:05:34.16 And they interviewed some of the now old people 00:05:34.20\00:05:37.17 who were young people then, 00:05:37.20\00:05:38.73 and they said that it wasn't obligatory at first, 00:05:38.77\00:05:42.20 but these young people were taken off 00:05:42.24\00:05:43.94 for they were living in the cities 00:05:43.97\00:05:45.54 and here they go camping in the country 00:05:45.57\00:05:47.64 and it was a wonderful outdoor life, 00:05:47.68\00:05:49.24 but from the beginning 00:05:49.28\00:05:50.61 it was a very adversarial relationships. 00:05:50.65\00:05:52.15 The kids were told to fight 00:05:52.18\00:05:53.78 till there was blood drawn and all, 00:05:53.82\00:05:55.18 so they were being trained to soldiers, 00:05:55.22\00:05:57.19 and the social pressure was very strong to join 00:05:57.22\00:06:00.06 the Hitler Youth thing, 00:06:00.09\00:06:01.42 so that increased its popularity, 00:06:01.46\00:06:03.49 but then it reached the point 00:06:03.53\00:06:04.86 when they were quite a major group 00:06:04.89\00:06:06.90 that they would march down the street calling out 00:06:06.93\00:06:10.50 to the other kids in the houses, 00:06:10.53\00:06:12.33 and if they didn't come down, 00:06:12.37\00:06:14.27 they would send a couple of Hitler 00:06:14.30\00:06:15.97 Youth in to drag them down 00:06:16.00\00:06:17.47 and forcibly take them off to the meetings. 00:06:17.51\00:06:20.18 And then further than that, 00:06:20.21\00:06:21.54 he said, it's because this young, 00:06:21.58\00:06:22.91 one of the fellows, who was young at that time, 00:06:22.94\00:06:26.28 he said, that his father didn't agree of the Nazis 00:06:26.31\00:06:28.35 so he didn't join. 00:06:28.38\00:06:29.72 And he said, at school the teacher would punish them 00:06:29.75\00:06:32.09 for not being part of the Hitler Youth, 00:06:32.12\00:06:34.12 so the pressure was incredibly overwhelming socially, 00:06:34.16\00:06:38.09 but then there was curse in the plot 00:06:38.13\00:06:39.79 because you were not a good German 00:06:39.83\00:06:41.46 if you were not part of the Hitler Youth. 00:06:41.50\00:06:44.57 Not only that but after 1933 the Nazi regime made use 00:06:44.60\00:06:47.47 of a supposed threat of terrorism against Germans 00:06:47.50\00:06:49.94 from an imaginary international Jewish conspiracy, 00:06:49.97\00:06:52.61 and so, after five years of repressing Jews in 1938, 00:06:52.64\00:06:56.38 the German state began to deport them. 00:06:56.41\00:06:59.38 It almost sounds like the same dilemma 00:06:59.41\00:07:01.45 we have now or the same propaganda 00:07:01.48\00:07:04.32 that's being used now to deport certain groups of people. 00:07:04.35\00:07:08.69 Whether they be Muslims, Mexican, or whatever. 00:07:08.72\00:07:10.29 By no stretch of the imagination, 00:07:10.33\00:07:12.66 you know, could we compare this administration 00:07:12.69\00:07:15.60 with Hitler's henchmen, 00:07:15.63\00:07:17.83 I mean, they were whole different animal 00:07:17.87\00:07:19.60 but the patterns of human behavior 00:07:19.63\00:07:23.57 and of control are the same. 00:07:23.61\00:07:25.67 Right. 00:07:25.71\00:07:27.04 And we are almost falling haphazardly 00:07:27.08\00:07:29.64 into the same pattern. 00:07:29.68\00:07:31.81 There's a need for moral new world, 00:07:31.85\00:07:33.85 Hitler felt that it had been betrayed 00:07:33.88\00:07:35.62 in the Versailles Treaty 00:07:35.65\00:07:37.12 and their greatness lay behind them 00:07:37.15\00:07:38.72 and there was an appeal to be made great again. 00:07:38.75\00:07:42.16 Even Hitler when he became chancellor, 00:07:42.19\00:07:44.43 he was a minority party. 00:07:44.46\00:07:45.79 Right. 00:07:45.83\00:07:47.16 He didn't win it by an overwhelming mandate, 00:07:47.20\00:07:49.96 but Hindenburg 00:07:50.00\00:07:51.33 and the other power brokers thought that 00:07:51.37\00:07:54.57 they could diffuse this growing agitation 00:07:54.60\00:07:57.04 with a rather aggressive Nazi party 00:07:57.07\00:07:59.67 that was causing some trouble in the streets. 00:07:59.71\00:08:01.81 They could put Hitler and use him as a useful puppet 00:08:01.84\00:08:04.25 and diffuse the social unrest 00:08:04.28\00:08:06.72 and they miscalculated very badly. 00:08:06.75\00:08:08.78 In 1989 right when the Cold War 00:08:08.82\00:08:12.45 basically was being won by the United States, 00:08:12.49\00:08:14.96 thanks to the presidency of Ronald Reagan. 00:08:14.99\00:08:18.86 God bless him and his family, but the president 00:08:18.89\00:08:23.33 or the current president back in 1983 Donald Trump said, 00:08:23.37\00:08:27.50 "Civil liberties end when an attack 00:08:27.54\00:08:30.27 on our safety begins." 00:08:30.31\00:08:32.91 I find it interesting because, 00:08:32.94\00:08:34.74 you know, all it takes 00:08:34.78\00:08:36.11 is another catastrophic terrorist attack 00:08:36.14\00:08:38.85 and what he says is already in his head 00:08:38.88\00:08:42.25 in terms of what he will do. 00:08:42.28\00:08:43.62 It's unfortunate. 00:08:43.65\00:08:44.99 And of course, that's proven by history 00:08:45.02\00:08:46.35 and any number of other people have said similar things 00:08:46.39\00:08:48.72 but that's very ominous that thought crossed his mind. 00:08:48.76\00:08:53.40 Yes, I've sometimes even on this program 00:08:53.43\00:08:55.53 I think suggested that we might just be one cataclysm 00:08:55.56\00:08:59.33 or a major disastrous event away 00:08:59.37\00:09:01.80 from at the very least a sort of a lock, 00:09:01.84\00:09:04.34 a moral or a freedom lockdown. 00:09:04.37\00:09:06.17 Yeah. 00:09:06.21\00:09:07.54 It seems that that's very possible, 00:09:07.58\00:09:11.21 whether that happens or not remains to be seen, 00:09:11.25\00:09:13.35 but to me it's something that 00:09:13.38\00:09:15.68 we have to be ever cognizant of. 00:09:15.72\00:09:17.92 And the only real defense we have is a group defense. 00:09:17.95\00:09:21.86 If a critical mass of the population 00:09:21.89\00:09:25.29 just say no more, 00:09:25.33\00:09:26.66 just like with the... 00:09:26.70\00:09:28.03 You think you invoke McCarthy somewhat earlier. 00:09:28.06\00:09:31.50 You know, McCarthyism was destructive 00:09:31.53\00:09:35.44 for this country many people 00:09:35.47\00:09:36.81 and whole industries were debilitated 00:09:36.84\00:09:38.97 by the charge of communism, 00:09:39.01\00:09:40.48 but all it took in the end was one guy 00:09:40.51\00:09:42.24 that got up and says, "Have you no shame." 00:09:42.28\00:09:44.88 Well, the problem is... 00:09:44.91\00:09:46.25 And then the whole edifice was collapsed. 00:09:46.28\00:09:47.72 When there's the use of real 00:09:47.75\00:09:49.78 or imagined terrorist threats to create 00:09:49.82\00:09:51.39 or consolidate authoritarian regimes. 00:09:51.42\00:09:54.59 I mean to consolidate authority by using such propaganda, 00:09:54.62\00:10:00.86 by using real or imagined terrorist threats 00:10:00.90\00:10:04.67 to consolidate authority 00:10:04.70\00:10:06.70 that is not helpful for our country 00:10:06.74\00:10:09.57 and that seems to be the era 00:10:09.60\00:10:12.54 that we are living in right now. 00:10:12.57\00:10:14.38 And it shows you to me in a way 00:10:14.41\00:10:17.68 how closely our constitution can be abrogated, destroyed, 00:10:17.71\00:10:21.95 Ellen White warns about that 00:10:21.98\00:10:23.42 in the fifth volume of Testimonies 00:10:23.45\00:10:24.79 that, that our constitution, 00:10:24.82\00:10:28.36 when our constitution is destroyed 00:10:28.39\00:10:30.23 it would be because of, 00:10:30.26\00:10:31.99 you know, people thinking in a Sunday law 00:10:32.03\00:10:34.76 and all of this stuff. 00:10:34.80\00:10:36.13 We know that as Seventh-day Adventists. 00:10:36.16\00:10:37.87 But we don't often factor in other things 00:10:37.90\00:10:40.54 that could lead to that 00:10:40.57\00:10:41.90 that could trigger such a dissolution, 00:10:41.94\00:10:45.44 a quick rapid dissolution of our constitution. 00:10:45.47\00:10:48.31 The underlying enabling act 00:10:48.34\00:10:50.65 which is always been my burden 00:10:50.68\00:10:52.11 rather than legal changes is social consciousness 00:10:52.15\00:10:56.79 or the population consciousness. 00:10:56.82\00:10:58.89 If, let's just make it posit, but I think it's fact, 00:10:58.92\00:11:02.56 if you have a population 00:11:02.59\00:11:03.99 that don't know the constitution, 00:11:04.03\00:11:06.19 how can they be true to the constitution. 00:11:06.23\00:11:08.50 The constitution's power was that, 00:11:08.53\00:11:10.73 it was putting on paper what a critical mass 00:11:10.77\00:11:14.34 of the people originally believed. 00:11:14.37\00:11:17.11 We don't even know 00:11:17.14\00:11:18.47 if we believe it now, if that's... 00:11:18.51\00:11:20.01 You know, I've seen any number of programs 00:11:20.04\00:11:21.54 where they ask people about the constitution, 00:11:21.58\00:11:22.91 they don't know. 00:11:22.94\00:11:24.28 And if they know anything, 00:11:24.31\00:11:25.65 it's the Declaration of Independence, 00:11:25.68\00:11:27.02 that shorthand for what they think 00:11:27.05\00:11:28.38 of the constitution. 00:11:28.42\00:11:29.75 So the constitution is unlikely to be consciously abrogated, 00:11:29.78\00:11:32.45 it's just forgotten. 00:11:32.49\00:11:34.09 And we know that people have become 00:11:34.12\00:11:37.76 more and more easily swayed by demagoguery 00:11:37.79\00:11:40.40 or just the emergency of the times after 9/11, 00:11:40.43\00:11:43.43 you know, people would say, 00:11:43.47\00:11:44.80 I don't care if the president knows what I'm doing, 00:11:44.83\00:11:46.27 if they're spying on me as long as I'm protected. 00:11:46.30\00:11:47.67 Right. 00:11:47.70\00:11:49.04 I mean, yeah, you understand emotionally 00:11:49.07\00:11:50.64 why they would say that, 00:11:50.67\00:11:52.01 but the underlying inference of that is, 00:11:52.04\00:11:54.44 I'm willing to live in a police state 00:11:54.48\00:11:56.01 as long as you keep, 00:11:56.04\00:11:57.38 keep the dogs away from me. 00:11:57.41\00:11:59.21 And we're drifting into that sort of 00:11:59.25\00:12:01.02 an enabling dynamic 00:12:01.05\00:12:03.32 and the Catholic Church you mentioned. 00:12:03.35\00:12:05.62 The popes come and go and their attitudes change 00:12:05.65\00:12:08.52 a little bit from time to time, 00:12:08.56\00:12:09.89 but whatever, 00:12:09.92\00:12:11.26 they were never able to do anything 00:12:11.29\00:12:12.76 to Protestant America 00:12:12.79\00:12:14.13 when Protestant sensibilities were intact. 00:12:14.16\00:12:16.53 But when you forget who you are, 00:12:16.56\00:12:18.20 why you are Protestant, 00:12:18.23\00:12:20.37 why individual liberties are so important, 00:12:20.40\00:12:23.30 you're easy pickings for these emergencies. 00:12:23.34\00:12:25.87 And there's that famous quote, 00:12:25.91\00:12:27.24 you know, that is to give away 00:12:27.28\00:12:28.61 civil liberties for an emergency, 00:12:28.64\00:12:29.98 don't deserve liberty or what is that safety. 00:12:30.01\00:12:35.58 I think the argument is strong... 00:12:35.62\00:12:37.59 Benjamin Franklin said that. 00:12:37.62\00:12:38.95 Yeah, that we're actually not so sitting ducks, 00:12:38.99\00:12:42.29 we've moved ourselves as a modern community 00:12:42.32\00:12:46.39 into enchanted ground 00:12:46.43\00:12:47.76 because we think differently than what we claim. 00:12:47.80\00:12:51.07 But there's another attitude that goes with that 00:12:51.10\00:12:53.67 and that is this idea that God is ultimately in control, 00:12:53.70\00:12:56.54 so therefore, this must be God's will 00:12:56.57\00:12:59.54 and, you know, and they cite Daniel 2 00:12:59.57\00:13:02.51 where God sets up kings, takes down Kings, 00:13:02.54\00:13:05.21 but I'm reminded of Hosea 8:4 and it's a most amazing text, 00:13:05.25\00:13:11.42 and I spoke about this with Charles Mills, 00:13:11.45\00:13:14.36 and he wrote an article 00:13:14.39\00:13:15.72 for Liberty Magazine that you have, 00:13:15.76\00:13:17.53 and it's fascinating 00:13:17.56\00:13:19.33 because Hosea 8:4 says the following. 00:13:19.36\00:13:23.26 Some of our viewers may know Charles Mills, 00:13:23.30\00:13:25.17 he's the necessary man 00:13:25.20\00:13:30.11 that we've hired to do the radio program, 00:13:30.14\00:13:31.97 I do... 00:13:32.01\00:13:33.34 And that's called Liberty Quest. 00:13:33.38\00:13:34.71 Yeah. 00:13:34.74\00:13:36.08 He's the moderator for me mostly. 00:13:36.11\00:13:37.71 I did three programs with him on Tuesday. 00:13:37.75\00:13:39.38 Yeah. Did you do three? Yes. 00:13:39.41\00:13:41.72 It was to be two, but I said, needs to be more. 00:13:41.75\00:13:43.08 It was used to be two, but the second one ran over 00:13:43.12\00:13:45.95 and we turned out into a third one. 00:13:45.99\00:13:47.36 Good. Yeah 00:13:47.39\00:13:48.72 So I hope some of our viewers can tune into 3ABN radio 00:13:48.76\00:13:52.09 which rebroadcasts... 00:13:52.13\00:13:53.46 Liberty Quest. Yes. Liberty Quest. 00:13:53.50\00:13:55.66 Hosea 8:4, says, 00:13:55.70\00:13:57.03 "They have set up kings but not by me, 00:13:57.07\00:13:59.77 they have made princes 00:13:59.80\00:14:01.14 and I knew it not of their silver 00:14:01.17\00:14:03.00 and their gold have they made them idols 00:14:03.04\00:14:05.97 that they may be cut off." 00:14:06.01\00:14:07.81 And so, you know, 00:14:07.84\00:14:09.18 that to me says very clearly that, 00:14:09.21\00:14:12.18 you know, yes, God is ultimately in control, 00:14:12.21\00:14:14.58 that's true, 00:14:14.62\00:14:15.95 but He does not interfere with our day to day choices. 00:14:15.98\00:14:20.26 And so we have to remember that. 00:14:20.29\00:14:22.19 We ultimately choose who our president is 00:14:22.22\00:14:25.16 through our Democratic-Republican system 00:14:25.19\00:14:28.06 and, you know, that can have some ill effects. 00:14:28.10\00:14:32.93 I mean, we have to, we cannot forget 00:14:32.97\00:14:35.94 that Adolf Hitler was elected the leader of his nation, okay. 00:14:35.97\00:14:40.98 And we should not forget 00:14:41.01\00:14:42.34 that it wasn't just a single person, 00:14:42.38\00:14:45.01 I mean, he took it in an aberrant direction, 00:14:45.05\00:14:46.61 but he couldn't have done 00:14:46.65\00:14:48.45 what he did without a general enabling attitude 00:14:48.48\00:14:51.45 of the people. 00:14:51.49\00:14:52.82 Anti-semitism was systemic in Germany at that time. 00:14:52.85\00:14:58.53 And attitudes toward foreigners, 00:14:58.56\00:15:01.63 gypsies and others was murderous, 00:15:01.66\00:15:04.47 and he just kept capitalized on it, 00:15:04.50\00:15:05.83 but it existed. 00:15:05.87\00:15:07.20 Yeah, let me... 00:15:07.24\00:15:08.57 The idea that one man hijacked the whole country is nonsense. 00:15:08.60\00:15:10.91 Right, Hosea 8:4, the NIV says it better, 00:15:10.94\00:15:14.21 I read the King James before, but it says, 00:15:14.24\00:15:16.34 "They set up kings without my consent, 00:15:16.38\00:15:18.71 they choose princes without my approval, 00:15:18.75\00:15:20.95 with their gold and silver 00:15:20.98\00:15:22.78 they make idols for themselves 00:15:22.82\00:15:24.19 to their own destruction." 00:15:24.22\00:15:25.55 It's very plain. 00:15:25.59\00:15:26.92 We'll visit that 00:15:26.96\00:15:28.29 when we come back after a short break. 00:15:28.32\00:15:29.66 Stay with us, 00:15:29.69\00:15:31.03 Reichstag fire and old things that pertained to such. 00:15:31.06\00:15:36.50
