Welcome back to the Liberty Insider. 00:00:05.27\00:00:06.90 Before the break with guest Greg Hamilton, 00:00:06.94\00:00:09.90 we were going great guns, 00:00:09.94\00:00:11.94 setting everything right after the turmoil 00:00:11.97\00:00:14.68 of the election of 2016 00:00:14.71\00:00:17.71 with the new administration in '17. 00:00:17.75\00:00:21.58 There is so much to talk about. 00:00:21.62\00:00:22.95 You know, everything's... 00:00:22.98\00:00:24.32 well, politically charged but underneath it all 00:00:24.35\00:00:26.52 is the subtext of where we go religiously 00:00:26.55\00:00:29.92 as a nation. 00:00:29.96\00:00:31.93 You know, I think there's just a lot of fear 00:00:31.96\00:00:34.00 and paranoia out there 00:00:34.03\00:00:35.56 built up on conspiracy theories, 00:00:35.60\00:00:37.73 whether we're talking about Breitbart or Alt-Right 00:00:37.77\00:00:41.44 or whatever, the Christian right, you know, 00:00:41.47\00:00:44.87 the Tea Party etcetera, 00:00:44.91\00:00:46.81 there has been this sense of paranoia since 2010 00:00:46.84\00:00:50.25 that has been building up for seven years. 00:00:50.28\00:00:53.35 This idea that all the presidents 00:00:53.38\00:00:56.65 come to have military exercises in Texas, 00:00:56.69\00:00:59.05 they come to take away all of our guns. 00:00:59.09\00:01:01.02 Alex Jones and his radio program. 00:01:01.06\00:01:02.92 I forget Alex Jones, the Governor of Texas. 00:01:02.96\00:01:05.29 Who will say... 00:01:05.33\00:01:08.00 Donald trump's favorite radio program is Alex Jones. 00:01:08.03\00:01:11.13 You remember the Governor of Texas 00:01:11.17\00:01:13.23 felt threatened by that whole exercise... 00:01:13.27\00:01:14.60 Yeah, yeah. 00:01:14.64\00:01:15.97 He said that is an imminent takeover. 00:01:16.00\00:01:17.34 Which was nonsense, I mean, proven to be nonsense 00:01:17.37\00:01:19.91 and it was nonsense, 00:01:19.94\00:01:21.28 and so you have this sense of paranoia 00:01:21.31\00:01:23.85 and people feeding on conspiracy theories 00:01:23.88\00:01:26.85 that are baseless, 00:01:26.88\00:01:28.38 and so 00:01:28.42\00:01:29.75 it's like the government's coming to get you, 00:01:29.78\00:01:31.45 the government's coming to get you. 00:01:31.49\00:01:34.26 And I fear that's taking over mainstream Christianity. 00:01:34.29\00:01:39.59 And it's... 00:01:39.63\00:01:42.63 unfortunately, it has transformed 00:01:42.66\00:01:45.87 the religious landscape to where we're living 00:01:45.90\00:01:49.27 almost in a state of paranoia similar to before I was, 00:01:49.30\00:01:52.37 just before I was born, 00:01:52.41\00:01:54.04 the McCarthy era, which, you know... 00:01:54.08\00:01:56.71 You're on my wavelength. 00:01:56.75\00:01:58.08 Yeah, so... 00:01:58.11\00:01:59.45 It almost doesn't matter what some of these tumults are 00:01:59.48\00:02:04.09 taken together they show the system in freefall, 00:02:04.12\00:02:07.62 and in public trust, and what the term I use 00:02:07.66\00:02:10.39 is the social contract. 00:02:10.43\00:02:11.96 We're in great danger 00:02:11.99\00:02:13.36 of the social contract breaking down. 00:02:13.40\00:02:15.40 Now the biggest one is working out right now 00:02:15.43\00:02:18.40 is you and I made. 00:02:18.43\00:02:20.87 There was a charge made from the highest levels. 00:02:20.90\00:02:23.71 The security forces were surveilling 00:02:23.74\00:02:27.58 presidential candidates... 00:02:27.61\00:02:29.11 One in particular. Right. 00:02:29.14\00:02:30.65 Denied, but it's come out through WikiLeaks 00:02:30.68\00:02:34.78 in great detail that this is so. 00:02:34.82\00:02:36.89 Now what does that mean? 00:02:36.92\00:02:38.72 I didn't read it that way. Yes. 00:02:38.75\00:02:40.29 I didn't read it that way. 00:02:40.32\00:02:41.76 It's certain, 00:02:41.79\00:02:43.46 people should've realized that it's so anyhow, 00:02:43.49\00:02:45.19 because even in the Bush administration 00:02:45.23\00:02:47.50 it turned out even though they denied it, 00:02:47.53\00:02:49.53 they were sweeping up all conversation. 00:02:49.56\00:02:51.67 Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, 00:02:51.70\00:02:53.84 just this morning, 00:02:53.87\00:02:55.87 put out a statement saying that, 00:02:55.90\00:02:58.37 "We're going to subpoena Donald Trump 00:02:58.41\00:03:00.58 in the White House for the proof and evidence 00:03:00.61\00:03:03.81 that he was wiretapped, and so right now 00:03:03.85\00:03:07.25 the White House is starting to back pedal vigorously, 00:03:07.28\00:03:10.15 because they have no evidence. 00:03:10.19\00:03:11.55 And number two, 00:03:11.59\00:03:13.62 President Obama, former president, 00:03:13.66\00:03:15.76 just vigorously denied along with all of his employees 00:03:15.79\00:03:20.36 that they did any such thing. 00:03:20.40\00:03:21.73 But you and I are observers on that but the... 00:03:21.76\00:03:23.47 And the FBI is denying that this ever happened... 00:03:23.50\00:03:24.83 This is another WikiLeaks release, 00:03:24.87\00:03:26.80 where they actually mails and so on. 00:03:26.84\00:03:28.57 The point I want to make is, 00:03:28.60\00:03:30.87 we know, if you read 00:03:30.91\00:03:33.01 and that's not a conspiracy theory, 00:03:33.04\00:03:35.28 the government, since they have the electronic capability 00:03:35.31\00:03:38.45 are collecting everything, everything. 00:03:38.48\00:03:41.15 And it's going into digital vaults. 00:03:41.18\00:03:43.92 The WikiLeaks thing did not specifically bring up 00:03:43.95\00:03:47.32 the question about the president being tapped, 00:03:47.36\00:03:50.39 all right, before he became president. 00:03:50.43\00:03:51.76 But the point I want to make on this... 00:03:51.79\00:03:53.19 What it's talking about is surveillance of US citizens 00:03:53.23\00:03:57.17 and not necessarily the president elect, 00:03:57.20\00:03:59.43 although that can obviously be a natural leap 00:03:59.47\00:04:02.30 in conclusion. 00:04:02.34\00:04:03.67 There is no evidence based at them. 00:04:03.71\00:04:05.07 I will bring it back to religious point. 00:04:05.11\00:04:09.74 It was restated a few years ago. 00:04:09.78\00:04:14.22 In parallel to what had happened 00:04:14.25\00:04:15.58 under the Bush administration, 00:04:15.62\00:04:16.95 and as I remember back in the Vietnam War, 00:04:16.99\00:04:20.76 where religious groups were being surveilled. 00:04:20.79\00:04:24.03 And not all religious groups 00:04:24.06\00:04:25.66 and we don't want to get too deep into that. 00:04:25.69\00:04:27.66 Well, those viewed as extremists. 00:04:27.70\00:04:29.60 Right. 00:04:29.63\00:04:30.97 So the government is showing an interest 00:04:31.00\00:04:33.34 and not necessarily telling us what they're doing. 00:04:33.37\00:04:35.57 You know, you can say that's fine. 00:04:35.60\00:04:37.21 My point is, we're at a moment 00:04:37.24\00:04:38.97 when at the highest levels 00:04:39.01\00:04:40.74 that surveillance is being challenged 00:04:40.78\00:04:43.51 and even discredited. 00:04:43.55\00:04:45.15 Well, I don't care for a semi police state, 00:04:45.18\00:04:48.65 but still when you pull the teeth on it 00:04:48.68\00:04:52.02 as happened in East Germany and in the Soviet Union, 00:04:52.05\00:04:55.59 the system collapses, 00:04:55.62\00:04:57.16 because you've got to have a system, 00:04:57.19\00:04:59.89 good or bad or indifferent. 00:04:59.93\00:05:01.26 If it's not respected, if it's not competent, 00:05:01.30\00:05:04.13 if it's not allowed to do what it's doing, 00:05:04.17\00:05:06.40 and you don't replace it with something else, 00:05:06.43\00:05:07.94 it goes into freefall. 00:05:07.97\00:05:09.30 To back up what you're saying, 00:05:09.34\00:05:10.67 I attend the annual religion and foreign policy workshop, 00:05:10.71\00:05:13.91 summer workshop, at the Council on Foreign Relations, 00:05:13.94\00:05:16.71 world headquarters at Madison Avenue, 00:05:16.75\00:05:18.08 New York City, 00:05:18.11\00:05:19.45 and I'm going again May 23-24 of this year, 00:05:19.48\00:05:22.28 and the emphasis is always on how do we, and by the way, 00:05:22.32\00:05:26.45 it's co-sponsored by the US State Department, 00:05:26.49\00:05:28.62 but it's... 00:05:28.66\00:05:29.99 As prejudice being kept radically. 00:05:30.03\00:05:31.89 Yes, in fact, they're not even flying everybody out anymore, 00:05:31.93\00:05:34.70 because the US State Department 00:05:34.73\00:05:36.63 has not refunded their contract, 00:05:36.67\00:05:38.23 or renewed their contract with the Council for Relations, 00:05:38.27\00:05:40.90 but let me finish my point. 00:05:40.94\00:05:42.40 My point is that when I go to these conferences 00:05:42.44\00:05:45.71 almost invariably the number one theme 00:05:45.74\00:05:48.54 that overrides everything else is how do we, 00:05:48.58\00:05:51.98 how do 300 religious leaders 00:05:52.01\00:05:54.62 that they pull in from the United States 00:05:54.65\00:05:56.02 just grassroots, nobody is like me. 00:05:56.05\00:05:58.59 Okay, how do we... 00:05:58.62\00:06:00.12 That they want to consult with us is the reason 00:06:00.16\00:06:02.62 for the workshop as well as having dignitaries, 00:06:02.66\00:06:04.86 and speakers, and foreign policy experts, 00:06:04.89\00:06:07.20 and State Department officials, 00:06:07.23\00:06:08.56 even secretaries of state, 00:06:08.60\00:06:10.67 speak to us as we have these outbreak sessions, 00:06:10.70\00:06:13.67 and they want to know from us, 00:06:13.70\00:06:15.97 how do we moderate extremists, 00:06:16.00\00:06:18.37 how do we get the moderate religious world 00:06:18.41\00:06:21.54 to give us answers on 00:06:21.58\00:06:24.31 how to deal with the world's problems 00:06:24.35\00:06:25.78 so that our foreign policy as the United States 00:06:25.81\00:06:29.12 uses religion to solve the world's problems 00:06:29.15\00:06:32.12 and bring about world peace, 00:06:32.15\00:06:33.49 that's by the way been a strategy 00:06:33.52\00:06:34.86 since the George W. Bush administration. 00:06:34.89\00:06:36.96 It was actually started under Colin Powell's leadership, 00:06:36.99\00:06:39.53 later Condoleezza Rice, and then Barack Obama, 00:06:39.56\00:06:42.83 and Hillary Clinton, and that to me is fascinating. 00:06:42.86\00:06:46.90 This idea that we can use religion 00:06:46.94\00:06:49.60 to moderate extremists, and if they don't moderate, 00:06:49.64\00:06:54.01 then what do we do next. 00:06:54.04\00:06:55.74 So it's a foreign policy 00:06:55.78\00:06:57.95 based upon moderation and extinction so to speak. 00:06:57.98\00:07:02.15 I'm glad you added that, because I was about to tell you 00:07:02.18\00:07:04.29 this whole extremism thing is extremely dangerous 00:07:04.32\00:07:08.69 because at root it has the idea 00:07:08.72\00:07:10.59 there is something inherently dangerous 00:07:10.63\00:07:12.73 about this religious viewpoint 00:07:12.76\00:07:15.43 and as long as we can keep it contained, we're safe. 00:07:15.46\00:07:18.03 Right. 00:07:18.07\00:07:20.00 And religious liberty should allow everyone 00:07:20.04\00:07:23.10 to believe what they want, but sooner or later, 00:07:23.14\00:07:25.77 any government that sees an extremist version 00:07:25.81\00:07:28.78 of any political activity 00:07:28.81\00:07:30.95 or any religious affiliation is dangerous. 00:07:30.98\00:07:33.75 Sooner or later, it will come to the nub and say that, 00:07:33.78\00:07:37.25 you know, we can't just deal 00:07:37.29\00:07:38.62 with its extreme manifestation at root. 00:07:38.65\00:07:41.26 It's problematic. We won't allow it in the state. 00:07:41.29\00:07:43.32 You know, it's interesting... 00:07:43.36\00:07:44.69 And people haven't followed the logic, 00:07:44.73\00:07:46.06 but at some point that is going to come about, 00:07:46.09\00:07:48.80 I'm certain of it, with this talk of extremism. 00:07:48.83\00:07:51.40 It's very interesting. 00:07:51.43\00:07:52.77 Revelation 13 points out 00:07:52.80\00:07:54.60 a threefold union of the United States of America, 00:07:54.64\00:07:57.94 our Protestant America 00:07:57.97\00:07:59.64 aligning itself with a healed Roman power, 00:07:59.67\00:08:03.04 the Holy Roman Empire power, or the Vatican OEC, okay, 00:08:03.08\00:08:07.02 aligned with this fire that supposedly come straight 00:08:07.05\00:08:11.55 from the throne room of God 00:08:11.59\00:08:12.92 from heaven itself to full view, 00:08:12.95\00:08:15.16 in the full view of men. 00:08:15.19\00:08:16.52 What is this fire, that Greek word... 00:08:16.56\00:08:17.89 What does it say? 00:08:17.93\00:08:19.26 It says this lamb-like beast brings fire down from heaven 00:08:19.29\00:08:21.30 in the sight of men. 00:08:21.33\00:08:22.66 Yes. 00:08:22.70\00:08:24.03 Really say where it's from or what it is, 00:08:24.07\00:08:25.40 whether it's literal, figurative, spiritual. 00:08:25.43\00:08:28.27 The word fire in the Greek is Pura or Pur, okay. 00:08:28.30\00:08:32.07 P-U-R, and it's the same word 00:08:32.11\00:08:34.08 at the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2, 00:08:34.11\00:08:36.51 "The cloven tongues of fire." 00:08:36.54\00:08:38.08 That was the true outpouring of the Holy Spirit. 00:08:38.11\00:08:40.82 In Revelation 13-13, this fire is a false spirit 00:08:40.85\00:08:45.29 that takes the world by storm. 00:08:45.32\00:08:47.06 I see it as a kin to the charismatic movement and... 00:08:47.09\00:08:50.89 Well, it could be except that, why does it say, 00:08:50.93\00:08:52.93 fire down from heaven in the sight of men. 00:08:52.96\00:08:54.83 Well, the Pentecost was rather a close thing, 00:08:54.86\00:08:57.73 not the whole country saw it. 00:08:57.77\00:08:59.30 It suggests that it's worldwide and that it's sweeping, 00:08:59.33\00:09:02.10 and that suggest that religious leaders 00:09:02.14\00:09:06.11 are looked to by the people, 00:09:06.14\00:09:07.48 the masses for solving the world's problems, 00:09:07.51\00:09:10.25 and they've given up on the political leaders, 00:09:10.28\00:09:11.88 they've given up on world leaders. 00:09:11.91\00:09:13.48 They're turning to religious leaders 00:09:13.52\00:09:14.85 to instruct political leaders 00:09:14.88\00:09:16.42 and world leaders to solve the world's problems. 00:09:16.45\00:09:18.25 So it goes back to my conversation 00:09:18.29\00:09:20.09 about the Council on Foreign Relations 00:09:20.12\00:09:22.19 in our annual Religion and Foreign Policy workshop 00:09:22.22\00:09:24.59 which is, you know, works out right before my eyes 00:09:24.63\00:09:26.90 in terms of what I see here in this threefold union. 00:09:26.93\00:09:30.10 To me, the charismatic movement has yet to really kick in, 00:09:30.13\00:09:33.03 in terms of a major force or power, 00:09:33.07\00:09:35.97 but we see it coming 00:09:36.00\00:09:37.41 with the emergence of Pope Francis, 00:09:37.44\00:09:39.47 with the emergence of this interfaith movement worldwide, 00:09:39.51\00:09:43.68 and combine that with the Christian 00:09:43.71\00:09:46.15 right here in the United States, 00:09:46.18\00:09:47.52 and the ecumenical forces that are coming align together. 00:09:47.55\00:09:51.09 We can see how prophecy is lining up. 00:09:51.12\00:09:54.16 Yeah. 00:09:54.19\00:09:55.52 Well, you know, we use the term charismatic 00:09:55.56\00:09:56.93 and it has a lot of baggage, 00:09:56.96\00:09:58.29 but what I think, you're saying is, 00:09:58.33\00:10:00.33 it's sort of a generalized spirituality 00:10:00.36\00:10:03.53 that has its common denominator, 00:10:03.57\00:10:05.80 a political center, a political agenda. 00:10:05.83\00:10:09.94 What I'm saying is... It's not doctrinal. 00:10:09.97\00:10:11.37 Donald Trump has seized upon that and he's... 00:10:11.41\00:10:15.44 I really believe his presidency 00:10:15.48\00:10:17.41 seeks to harness the religious powers 00:10:17.45\00:10:20.68 here in the United States to fulfill his dream 00:10:20.72\00:10:22.92 and his vision and theirs in turn. 00:10:22.95\00:10:25.45 And this is good a way to get to the end as I can imagine. 00:10:25.49\00:10:30.29 What we see happening here is a United States of America 00:10:30.33\00:10:33.96 in which the religious powers here in the United States 00:10:34.00\00:10:36.97 are really seeking to control our country. 00:10:37.00\00:10:42.50 This is a television program, 00:10:42.54\00:10:44.04 but I also edit Liberty Magazine, 00:10:44.07\00:10:45.67 and recently in an editorial, I began by, 00:10:45.71\00:10:47.81 there shall be weeping and lamentation in the streets. 00:10:47.84\00:10:51.15 Unfortunately, that characterized 00:10:51.18\00:10:52.71 many of the sore losers 00:10:52.75\00:10:54.32 in the last US presidential election. 00:10:54.35\00:10:57.35 That's not really a good way to react, 00:10:57.39\00:11:00.26 but it's understandable because some people do lose, 00:11:00.29\00:11:04.39 but what we need to remind our leaders, 00:11:04.43\00:11:06.76 don't hold it against people that have that attitude 00:11:06.80\00:11:11.27 because there's always naysayers. 00:11:11.30\00:11:13.54 Make sure that you act morally and honestly 00:11:13.57\00:11:16.84 toward the majority. 00:11:16.87\00:11:18.51 One of my heroes in history is Oliver Cromwell, 00:11:18.54\00:11:21.21 who headed up by religious state 00:11:21.24\00:11:23.08 after England's civil war. 00:11:23.11\00:11:25.81 He's gone down badly in history, especially, 00:11:25.85\00:11:27.72 from a Catholic point of view, 00:11:27.75\00:11:29.48 but one thing that I admired in him 00:11:29.52\00:11:31.35 to read that during his rule, 00:11:31.39\00:11:33.36 he allowed the publication of a book 00:11:33.39\00:11:35.42 that actually outlined 00:11:35.46\00:11:36.99 how to assassinate Oliver Cromwell himself. 00:11:37.03\00:11:40.26 Toleration should have reasonable limits. 00:11:40.30\00:11:44.47 For Liberty Insider, this is Lincoln Steed. 00:11:44.50\00:11:47.27
