Welcome back to the discussion. 00:00:05.33\00:00:07.74 We were solving the world's problem, 00:00:07.77\00:00:09.70 particularly as it relates to religion. 00:00:09.74\00:00:12.61 And goodness knows the world as, you know, 00:00:12.64\00:00:15.88 I'm not God in space 00:00:15.91\00:00:17.25 but from space this must look like... 00:00:17.28\00:00:19.45 A mess? 00:00:19.48\00:00:20.82 A mess, and you know, 00:00:20.85\00:00:22.18 and there's prayers, and crosses, 00:00:22.22\00:00:25.69 and Quranic exaltations all of the religious garble 00:00:25.72\00:00:29.82 coming up must be not mystifying 00:00:29.86\00:00:33.43 but attention getting for the God in heaven. 00:00:33.46\00:00:37.20 And how do we solve it because, you know, 00:00:37.23\00:00:39.40 religion is needed. 00:00:39.43\00:00:40.77 Faith is needed, because I'm giving my answer, 00:00:40.80\00:00:43.14 I make a distinction between religion and spirituality. 00:00:43.17\00:00:47.58 But you know, we got too much religion and it's violent. 00:00:47.61\00:00:51.11 Not always, but the violent elements 00:00:51.15\00:00:52.88 seems to be coming to the fore. 00:00:52.91\00:00:54.25 Yeah, well, I mean, I think you, 00:00:54.28\00:00:56.18 I think you answered it within the question 00:00:56.22\00:00:58.02 as far as you know, focusing on our individual faith in God, 00:00:58.05\00:01:02.16 in our individual relationships with God 00:01:02.19\00:01:03.93 and rather than a religion or a doct, you know, 00:01:03.96\00:01:07.30 sort of doctrine and allegiance 00:01:07.33\00:01:11.43 to a human made sort of organization. 00:01:11.47\00:01:14.97 Particularly, I mean we all think 00:01:15.00\00:01:17.17 that our faith and our belief system 00:01:17.21\00:01:18.77 is the correct one. 00:01:18.81\00:01:20.14 But you know, so many of these faith systems, you know, 00:01:20.18\00:01:23.21 they seem inconsistent with, you know, 00:01:23.24\00:01:25.95 a God of love in some of the practices that we see. 00:01:25.98\00:01:29.15 And you know whether that's incorrect interpretations, 00:01:29.18\00:01:32.39 or you know, that it's, you know, 00:01:32.42\00:01:34.76 a power hungry individual who has sort of, you know, 00:01:34.79\00:01:37.53 created these or whatever but 00:01:37.56\00:01:40.50 it's just you know some of 00:01:40.53\00:01:42.80 the activities and beliefs, you know, 00:01:42.83\00:01:44.93 that inspire them is just so troubling. 00:01:44.97\00:01:49.14 Let me take another tech. 00:01:49.17\00:01:51.47 I think part of what's not causing the problem 00:01:51.51\00:01:54.48 but exacerbating the problem 00:01:54.51\00:01:56.58 is dishonesty in religious dialogue. 00:01:56.61\00:02:01.78 I know Christians, and Christianity is not in a-- 00:02:01.82\00:02:06.09 I mean it's not a violent religion inherently, 00:02:06.12\00:02:08.06 but in the Middle Ages, under the medieval church, 00:02:08.09\00:02:11.16 it had very violent tendencies. 00:02:11.19\00:02:14.33 Christianity at the moment is not. 00:02:14.36\00:02:17.70 But I think to protect itself, it doesn't, 00:02:17.73\00:02:20.74 it's sort of backing off. 00:02:20.77\00:02:23.00 And thus it's not aggressive about any faith proclamation. 00:02:23.04\00:02:27.31 Whereas Islam at the moment is in the, 00:02:27.34\00:02:30.68 not necessarily the ascendancy, 00:02:30.71\00:02:32.11 but it's an ascendant aggressive stage. 00:02:32.15\00:02:36.12 But Christians and others 00:02:36.15\00:02:38.85 are not willing to call it for what it is. 00:02:38.89\00:02:41.42 Even the president continuing to say, 00:02:41.46\00:02:43.12 "Islam is a religion of peace." 00:02:43.16\00:02:44.49 It doesn't even mean peace, it means submission. 00:02:44.53\00:02:47.96 And, Islam has with a vengeance what even Christianity has, 00:02:48.00\00:02:53.30 the idea that everybody should be a Muslim. 00:02:53.34\00:02:55.37 Their goal is total worldwide conversion. 00:02:55.40\00:02:58.87 And until that's accomplished, persuasion is good, 00:02:58.91\00:03:02.54 violence might be necessary. 00:03:02.58\00:03:05.05 Well, you know, not all, 00:03:05.08\00:03:06.65 by any means of adherence 00:03:06.68\00:03:08.85 of any religion would be inclined to be violent. 00:03:08.88\00:03:11.19 But if it's inherent in you, in your faith, talk about it. 00:03:11.22\00:03:14.59 Don't dodge it. 00:03:14.62\00:03:16.26 You know, even as people are being bombed 00:03:16.29\00:03:18.23 and destroyed around the world and we say, 00:03:18.26\00:03:20.33 "This is not the religion." 00:03:20.36\00:03:22.03 It's sort of like the argument with the-- Now, 00:03:22.06\00:03:24.00 I'll get into trouble with our viewers the, 00:03:24.03\00:03:26.94 the gun argument. 00:03:26.97\00:03:28.30 You know, guns don't kill people. 00:03:28.34\00:03:30.41 People kill people. 00:03:30.44\00:03:31.77 Right. Yes. 00:03:31.81\00:03:33.14 Well, you can say, "No, Islam never hurt anybody. 00:03:33.17\00:03:34.81 But this person, well I say, they're Islamic, 00:03:34.84\00:03:36.75 they did this." 00:03:36.78\00:03:38.11 Not really Islam. 00:03:38.15\00:03:39.48 After a while, it's the elephant in the room, 00:03:39.51\00:03:42.08 of course, it's Islam. 00:03:42.12\00:03:43.45 Right. 00:03:43.49\00:03:45.62 And I've already said in other programs, 00:03:45.65\00:03:47.96 I'm committed to protecting Islam 00:03:47.99\00:03:50.43 or heaven's gate for that matter to exist. 00:03:50.46\00:03:55.06 When they harm other people, that's a question, 00:03:55.10\00:03:56.90 but people can believe what they want. 00:03:56.93\00:03:58.33 That's religious freedom. Right. 00:03:58.37\00:04:00.20 But I don't think it furthers religious freedom 00:04:00.24\00:04:02.67 to deny aspects of a given faith. 00:04:02.70\00:04:05.71 We need to really discuss them openly. 00:04:05.74\00:04:08.21 And I agree with you too with what you were saying as far as. 00:04:08.24\00:04:12.61 We need to be upfront about our own belief system. 00:04:12.65\00:04:16.89 And maybe even proud of our own belief system, 00:04:16.92\00:04:19.55 and rather than sort of white washing it, so that it's, 00:04:19.59\00:04:22.49 you know, we all have this universal faith, 00:04:22.52\00:04:24.63 or belief in this higher power and they're not... 00:04:24.66\00:04:26.90 Right and that's where we are going, 00:04:26.93\00:04:28.26 I believe that there's going to be an attempt with globalism 00:04:28.30\00:04:31.27 to morph globalism with a safe religious center. 00:04:31.30\00:04:37.04 It could be a coalition of religious beliefs 00:04:37.07\00:04:39.04 that have muted their distinctive aspects, 00:04:39.07\00:04:42.98 sort of a defense compact. 00:04:43.01\00:04:45.11 Yeah. 00:04:45.15\00:04:46.48 And they will easily turn on the others 00:04:46.51\00:04:48.05 that are not in there. 00:04:48.08\00:04:49.42 Right. 00:04:49.45\00:04:50.79 No, you know, I think that, 00:04:50.82\00:04:53.39 that our faith has been inspired, 00:04:53.42\00:04:55.56 you know, we have inspired works, 00:04:55.59\00:04:57.09 we have the Bible, we have so many different things that, 00:04:57.13\00:04:59.63 that show us very, you know, purposeful, 00:04:59.66\00:05:02.33 distinctive ways to live our life and, 00:05:02.36\00:05:05.87 and I think that we should be proud of that, 00:05:05.90\00:05:07.94 and we should stand, you know, behind them. 00:05:07.97\00:05:10.51 And, yes. Not, not. 00:05:10.54\00:05:13.17 I mean religion shouldn't be radically different 00:05:13.21\00:05:16.18 from all human interchange. 00:05:16.21\00:05:17.91 I mean you don't, you don't come up to someone 00:05:17.95\00:05:21.15 and tell all the truths 00:05:21.18\00:05:22.52 about your observation of them right upfront. 00:05:22.55\00:05:25.12 You get to know them, 00:05:25.15\00:05:27.16 and then if you want to persuade them of something, 00:05:27.19\00:05:29.06 you suggest it carefully. 00:05:29.09\00:05:31.99 You know, with the dynamic, religion is the same. 00:05:32.03\00:05:33.80 Of course, religion can have a clear agenda, 00:05:33.83\00:05:36.77 but you don't hit people between the eyes with it. 00:05:36.80\00:05:39.30 But in this larger dialogue, we need to be upfront about 00:05:39.33\00:05:42.64 what we really believe, what our agenda is even if, 00:05:42.67\00:05:46.57 you know, that the other group may not accept it. 00:05:46.61\00:05:49.24 But they should accept that you hold that view. 00:05:49.28\00:05:51.88 Right. 00:05:51.91\00:05:53.25 That's sort of what's missing. 00:05:53.28\00:05:54.62 Yes. And, and... 00:05:54.65\00:05:56.72 And that you're allowed to hold that view. 00:05:56.75\00:05:58.59 Right. 00:05:58.62\00:05:59.95 You know, when we talked about before, you know, 00:05:59.99\00:06:02.36 immigration issues, and you know, we've, 00:06:02.39\00:06:04.83 we've heard individuals running for president talk 00:06:04.86\00:06:07.53 about excluding individuals from immigrating 00:06:07.56\00:06:11.57 because of their particular, you know, belief system. 00:06:11.60\00:06:14.64 I mean, I'd like to think that if that nameless individual 00:06:14.67\00:06:18.97 were elected in the real world, 00:06:19.01\00:06:20.44 it probably would translate into something close 00:06:20.48\00:06:24.38 to what we already have, where there's certain watch, 00:06:24.41\00:06:26.92 watch list countries, and anybody from that area 00:06:26.95\00:06:29.75 might have deeper scrutiny. 00:06:29.78\00:06:31.89 I mean the U.S., I've been through the system, 00:06:31.92\00:06:33.89 the U.S. doesn't just, has never had a total open door. 00:06:33.92\00:06:36.86 Right. Never has. 00:06:36.89\00:06:38.59 And there's quite, isn't there quite 00:06:38.63\00:06:39.96 a comprehensive process now for individuals who immigrate. 00:06:40.00\00:06:43.83 There's always a checking process. 00:06:43.87\00:06:46.40 Paranoia is driving, if not his statement, 00:06:46.43\00:06:49.40 the reaction to it. 00:06:49.44\00:06:51.21 And it doesn't bode well for religion generally, 00:06:51.24\00:06:53.84 if you can just sort of 00:06:53.88\00:06:55.21 box someone and categorize them. 00:06:55.24\00:06:56.64 @You know, I might have strong views on Islam, 00:06:56.68\00:06:58.85 but by no means do I think that every Muslim will act 00:06:58.88\00:07:02.68 on those, sort of worst tendencies of their faith, 00:07:02.72\00:07:05.99 and I hope they have the same for me. 00:07:06.02\00:07:07.82 Right, right. 00:07:07.86\00:07:09.19 And we're certainly not suggesting 00:07:09.22\00:07:10.56 that anyone's civil liberties should be removed 00:07:10.59\00:07:12.69 because of their, you know, the way that they believe 00:07:12.73\00:07:15.26 they're religious, you know, how they are. 00:07:15.30\00:07:16.63 No, but the way they act, yes. Absolutely. 00:07:16.67\00:07:18.90 And, and I don't even have a challenge. 00:07:18.93\00:07:20.87 If... 00:07:20.90\00:07:22.34 Let's just call the country Oceana. 00:07:25.97\00:07:28.31 If I am a citizen of Oceana and they make it illegal 00:07:28.34\00:07:32.98 to, to witness to my faith to my neighbor, 00:07:33.01\00:07:38.09 I don't have a problem with how I act with that. 00:07:38.12\00:07:41.59 I will disobey the law and take the penalty. 00:07:41.62\00:07:44.46 There's a penalty for it. 00:07:44.49\00:07:45.83 Right, I think I like that point, go ahead. 00:07:45.86\00:07:48.53 And, and there's many people living in the United States, 00:07:48.56\00:07:50.87 where they make an assumption that automatically 00:07:50.90\00:07:52.97 the law is going to guarantee 00:07:53.00\00:07:55.27 everything they do with their faith 00:07:55.30\00:07:56.64 just because it's guarantee religious liberty. 00:07:56.67\00:07:59.04 Well, that's a fortuitous situation. 00:07:59.07\00:08:01.31 But you don't act in the way you do as a person of faith 00:08:01.34\00:08:04.38 because the law allows or disallows it. 00:08:04.41\00:08:07.05 You do because you're motivated by your conscience. 00:08:07.08\00:08:09.18 I like that point a lot. 00:08:09.22\00:08:10.55 But you should understand, you cross the civil law, 00:08:10.59\00:08:12.19 then you're going to pay a penalty. 00:08:12.22\00:08:13.56 Right, I agree with that. 00:08:13.59\00:08:15.12 You know, we've had conversations on here before 00:08:15.16\00:08:17.46 about, you know, with the discrimination 00:08:17.49\00:08:19.83 in the workplace in the United States, 00:08:19.86\00:08:22.26 and talked about, you know, individuals are standing up 00:08:22.30\00:08:25.37 for their conscience. 00:08:25.40\00:08:26.74 They know the situation in that workplace, 00:08:26.77\00:08:28.94 they know that they will likely, you know, 00:08:28.97\00:08:30.84 they hope that there will be one outcome 00:08:30.87\00:08:32.27 that they'll be accommodated. 00:08:32.31\00:08:33.64 But they know that there is the possibility 00:08:33.68\00:08:35.34 that they will lose their job for God. 00:08:35.38\00:08:36.95 Even though as we're currently standing, 00:08:36.98\00:08:39.11 the law is on their side that, you know, that's just the way. 00:08:39.15\00:08:41.05 Now, this is a little bit of the obvious 00:08:41.08\00:08:42.52 of what I was explaining. 00:08:42.55\00:08:43.89 This is where the law supports you. 00:08:43.92\00:08:45.25 Yes. But there's a social penalty. 00:08:45.29\00:08:47.59 There's a social penalty. 00:08:47.62\00:08:48.96 And this is their irony in America 00:08:48.99\00:08:50.33 that needs to be spoken aloud. 00:08:50.36\00:08:51.69 There's a lot of lip service to the First Amendment. 00:08:51.73\00:08:55.93 And then its application in the workplace 00:08:55.96\00:08:58.70 through Title VII of the civil rights legislation. 00:08:58.73\00:09:01.44 But there is a huge amount of prejudice 00:09:01.47\00:09:03.71 by employers and fellow employees 00:09:03.74\00:09:06.11 that gets in the way all the time. 00:09:06.14\00:09:07.74 It's not prejudice against religious liberty. 00:09:07.78\00:09:10.08 It's prejudice against your particular 00:09:10.11\00:09:12.51 form of religious expression. 00:09:12.55\00:09:13.88 Right, right. 00:09:13.92\00:09:15.25 There is often well, why can't you just do this 00:09:15.28\00:09:16.62 or why can't you do that or this person is into that and... 00:09:16.65\00:09:19.89 But to the broader question as far as, you know, 00:09:19.92\00:09:22.69 I absolutely agree with you that people should recognize 00:09:22.72\00:09:25.63 there are consequences to, you know, 00:09:25.66\00:09:28.56 being a person of faith and we certainly, you know, 00:09:28.60\00:09:32.90 don't think that there should be unfair consequences, 00:09:32.93\00:09:35.30 but if you are in a situation where, you know, 00:09:35.34\00:09:38.57 X is not allowable but your conscience, you know, 00:09:38.61\00:09:42.94 requires you to do it then, you know... 00:09:42.98\00:09:45.35 Follow your conscience. Follow your conscience. 00:09:45.38\00:09:47.95 I have seen too many cases of people 00:09:47.98\00:09:49.92 that have had a problem and they've given in. 00:09:49.95\00:09:54.26 And then, you know, it's between them and God 00:09:54.29\00:09:56.46 in the end. 00:09:56.49\00:09:57.83 But I've hit this table, well, you know, 00:09:57.86\00:09:59.53 they wouldn't let me, or they wouldn't allow me. 00:09:59.56\00:10:01.13 That's not really an excuse, 00:10:01.16\00:10:04.83 and we're happy to use the Lord 00:10:04.87\00:10:06.50 to help someone who follows their conviction. 00:10:06.53\00:10:09.64 But you have to follow your conviction. 00:10:09.67\00:10:11.57 What does Shakespeare say, 00:10:11.61\00:10:12.94 "To thine own self, self be true." 00:10:12.97\00:10:14.78 Right. 00:10:14.81\00:10:16.14 Well, and the thing is to us 00:10:16.18\00:10:17.51 as we have seen over and over again. 00:10:17.55\00:10:19.55 Following your conviction will lead you 00:10:19.58\00:10:21.65 to a closer relationship with God. 00:10:21.68\00:10:23.95 It's going to be a witness to individuals around you, 00:10:23.99\00:10:27.39 whether it's your friends, or your family, 00:10:27.42\00:10:28.92 or your colleagues, or your countrymen. 00:10:28.96\00:10:31.76 You know, it's, it's, it's not an easy thing to do. 00:10:31.79\00:10:34.70 You know, we're saying it sort of just like, 00:10:34.73\00:10:36.23 well, of course, this is the way you should do. 00:10:36.26\00:10:37.83 There will be consequences and they will be, you know, 00:10:37.87\00:10:41.04 likely they will be unpleasant whether it's you know, 00:10:41.07\00:10:43.24 losing your employment, or your citizenship, 00:10:43.27\00:10:45.94 or something you know. 00:10:45.97\00:10:47.31 Well, sometimes they are pleasant too. 00:10:47.34\00:10:48.68 Of course. 00:10:48.71\00:10:50.05 But you don't go to-- 00:10:50.08\00:10:51.41 The point is, Christianity I understand, 00:10:51.45\00:10:53.11 but it seems to me any faith, you don't go into it 00:10:53.15\00:10:55.75 because it's going to be pleasant or unpleasant, 00:10:55.78\00:10:57.72 you go to it under conviction. 00:10:57.75\00:10:59.25 You don't go for the prizes. 00:10:59.29\00:11:00.62 And let the chips fall where they may. 00:11:00.66\00:11:03.22 And then you praise God, Allah, whoever dear to you, 00:11:03.26\00:11:08.66 you are inclined to, but you praise them 00:11:08.70\00:11:10.67 that it turns out so well. 00:11:10.70\00:11:12.03 Right, and we know that, you know, 00:11:12.07\00:11:14.20 that there is ultimately a wonderful, you know, 00:11:14.24\00:11:18.54 price sort of waiting for us at the end of time 00:11:18.57\00:11:21.08 as far as, you know, a life in heaven with, 00:11:21.11\00:11:23.21 with Christ and His believers in. 00:11:23.24\00:11:25.18 And so, we know that to be true but, you know, 00:11:25.21\00:11:28.15 just as we're going along here, 00:11:28.18\00:11:30.09 and looking at the world around us 00:11:30.12\00:11:33.49 really, it's just such a dire situation, and unfortunately, 00:11:33.52\00:11:37.66 it's because of a lot of times 00:11:37.69\00:11:39.63 the situations that are occurring 00:11:39.66\00:11:41.00 are religiously motivated. 00:11:41.03\00:11:42.36 Whether it's conflict between the own religion, 00:11:42.40\00:11:44.67 or, you know, with other religions. 00:11:44.70\00:11:47.10 And so, I'm just really so grateful 00:11:47.14\00:11:49.84 when we take the time and the opportunity 00:11:49.87\00:11:52.57 to look to Christ as our ultimate, 00:11:52.61\00:11:57.05 you know, situation of how to behave and... 00:11:57.08\00:12:03.18 How to, you know what to emulate 00:12:03.22\00:12:05.09 as far as how we deal with our relationships 00:12:05.12\00:12:07.06 with other people. 00:12:07.09\00:12:09.22 Just the other day in the car, I was playing a selection 00:12:09.26\00:12:11.93 from Handel's wonderful musical, the Messiah. 00:12:11.96\00:12:15.46 And I listened to the one of the deeper voices 00:12:15.50\00:12:19.00 singing in "Why do the nations so furiously rage together?" 00:12:19.03\00:12:24.31 The nations are raging at the moment, 00:12:24.34\00:12:26.11 and one of the reasons for that rage, 00:12:26.14\00:12:28.88 one of the expressions of that rage 00:12:28.91\00:12:30.95 is religious intolerance, religious difference. 00:12:30.98\00:12:34.38 And indeed, a murderous religious aggression at times. 00:12:34.42\00:12:39.92 We need to be aware of this and fight it on every level. 00:12:39.95\00:12:44.13 Not with swords loud clashing, 00:12:44.16\00:12:46.29 but with deeds of love and mercy, 00:12:46.33\00:12:48.66 with an exemplification of what true religion is, 00:12:48.70\00:12:53.13 whether it's Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, 00:12:53.17\00:12:57.74 they are very disparate in the way that they approach 00:12:57.77\00:13:00.81 different gods. 00:13:00.84\00:13:02.18 But the way that they practice their faith 00:13:02.21\00:13:04.41 should be dignified by a common humanity. 00:13:04.45\00:13:08.95 For Liberty insider, this is Lincoln Steed. 00:13:08.98\00:13:11.99
