Welcome back to the Liberty Insider. 00:00:03.06\00:00:05.43 Before the break I was winding down 00:00:05.46\00:00:08.08 because I gonna get to really dangerous territories. 00:00:08.11\00:00:10.60 Yes, it has. 00:00:10.63\00:00:11.66 Talking about in fact I may not have identified it, 00:00:11.69\00:00:14.90 Charles as well, am I might 00:00:14.93\00:00:16.19 but it troubles than I think its in England 00:00:16.22\00:00:18.98 in some local Muslim communities 00:00:19.01\00:00:22.01 they have agreed to allow them to administer 00:00:22.04\00:00:23.89 the community with Sharia law. 00:00:23.92\00:00:25.73 Okay, now identify Sharia law. 00:00:25.76\00:00:26.93 What is that? What you talking about? 00:00:26.96\00:00:28.31 Sharia law is-- principles of governance 00:00:28.34\00:00:31.43 in Muslim communities that are based on-- 00:00:31.46\00:00:38.15 on a amalgam of tradition, application of the Quran 00:00:38.18\00:00:44.35 and theological views that might not directly comes 00:00:44.38\00:00:49.69 from the Quran but it's the-- 00:00:49.72\00:00:52.18 just the way that they administer 00:00:52.21\00:00:55.21 their social and religious justice. 00:00:55.24\00:00:57.25 Well, on the surface that seems like a good idea 00:00:57.28\00:00:59.85 as long as Sharia law does not contradict 00:00:59.88\00:01:03.69 the law of the land so what's the problem? 00:01:03.72\00:01:07.70 I mean if Sharia law says 00:01:07.73\00:01:08.84 if your neighbor doesn't convert kill him 00:01:08.87\00:01:10.05 and the law of Lamb says thou shalt not kill, 00:01:10.08\00:01:14.15 what's the problem if they do that? 00:01:14.18\00:01:16.36 Well, you're play bit of-- 00:01:16.39\00:01:18.56 I'm, I love doing that. 00:01:18.59\00:01:20.38 Well, it's not worth breaking it down 00:01:20.41\00:01:23.92 because some elements of it may actually be 00:01:23.95\00:01:26.79 in accordance with the civil. 00:01:26.82\00:01:27.91 Yes, yes. 00:01:27.94\00:01:29.02 And some may be as I agree just as you say. 00:01:29.05\00:01:31.71 We had articles in Liberty Magazine 00:01:31.74\00:01:34.38 even over Jewish church law on-- 00:01:34.41\00:01:38.22 it's usually not as in the criminal law 00:01:38.25\00:01:41.00 and that sort of things but on divorce for example. 00:01:41.03\00:01:45.11 There are a divorce laws 00:01:45.14\00:01:46.18 and principals of who has liability 00:01:46.21\00:01:49.31 and so on that the state of ministers 00:01:49.34\00:01:50.84 but in the Jewish system 00:01:50.87\00:01:52.50 this such interesting things as a gift. 00:01:52.53\00:01:55.87 Where there has to be a religious allowance 00:01:55.90\00:01:58.54 for the divorced or even proceed 00:01:58.57\00:02:01.08 and so some courts have even given a nod toward that 00:02:01.11\00:02:05.31 and created a hybrid and we didn't-- 00:02:05.34\00:02:07.54 we don't think that's necessarily too ideal. 00:02:07.57\00:02:09.32 Okay. 00:02:09.35\00:02:10.43 Its certainly problematic with the Sharia law 00:02:10.46\00:02:13.35 and I would draw parallels, I did in the break, 00:02:13.38\00:02:16.69 what about down south where you have very solid 00:02:16.72\00:02:19.96 Bible believing/Baptist or something similar community 00:02:19.99\00:02:24.60 they would be very happy to have religious instruction 00:02:24.63\00:02:29.07 in the public school, prayers and the whole thing 00:02:29.10\00:02:31.63 and create a sense of moral and doctoral uniformity 00:02:31.66\00:02:36.29 that crosses over from the church 00:02:36.32\00:02:38.36 into the community to the governmental structures. 00:02:38.39\00:02:40.60 Yes. 00:02:40.63\00:02:41.66 And I don't see much difference between that 00:02:41.69\00:02:44.22 and the Sharia allowance in England and-- 00:02:44.25\00:02:47.49 it's been requested in some places of the US 00:02:47.52\00:02:50.44 and even applying largely Jewish law. 00:02:50.47\00:02:54.13 We got be careful of all of these. 00:02:54.16\00:02:55.75 Yes, you would hope that in a just moral society 00:02:55.78\00:03:02.23 that its civil laws would not counter 00:03:02.26\00:03:06.58 the religious laws that are given in a holy book 00:03:06.61\00:03:08.96 where they do and we back to religious liberty. 00:03:08.99\00:03:11.77 As a matter of principle I would disobey them. 00:03:11.80\00:03:15.70 I mean, we don't often say that 00:03:15.73\00:03:17.04 because in the United States, people of long sense entwined 00:03:17.07\00:03:20.96 the constitution with the Bible, 00:03:20.99\00:03:22.55 they think there is no conflict. 00:03:22.58\00:03:23.95 There might well be 00:03:23.98\00:03:25.05 and they was in the original constitution 00:03:25.08\00:03:27.55 where it mandated-- it didn't mandate slavery 00:03:27.58\00:03:30.15 but it administered slavery and mandated the very low value 00:03:30.18\00:03:33.75 to a human being, percentage of a person. 00:03:33.78\00:03:39.43 A true Christian should have stood up 00:03:39.46\00:03:40.88 and said I wouldn't-- I won't go a long 00:03:40.91\00:03:42.36 with these things, very few did at that time. 00:03:42.39\00:03:46.70 So at the end of the day, 00:03:46.73\00:03:49.40 well, we don't like the violence 00:03:49.43\00:03:51.78 and the political violence and so on that characterizes 00:03:51.81\00:03:54.40 the Middle East often in the name of religion. 00:03:54.43\00:03:56.68 At the end of the day a person of faith 00:03:56.71\00:03:59.27 must be prepared to stand up 00:03:59.30\00:04:01.22 and be counted not to take up a gun 00:04:01.25\00:04:03.90 and challenge the authority of the state, 00:04:03.93\00:04:06.26 but if the state asks you to do something 00:04:06.29\00:04:08.84 that your faith principle, say otherwise you disobey 00:04:08.87\00:04:14.92 and you take the consequence. 00:04:14.95\00:04:16.75 So the question is, are you willing 00:04:16.78\00:04:20.32 to back up your faith with your life? 00:04:20.35\00:04:23.13 Yes, and put in another way 00:04:23.16\00:04:25.35 and this perhaps puts it in a better context. 00:04:25.38\00:04:30.39 A person of true faith should be prepared 00:04:30.42\00:04:33.85 to die for their faith. 00:04:33.88\00:04:35.82 A person of false faith is often prepared 00:04:35.85\00:04:38.25 to kill for their faith, there is a huge difference. 00:04:38.28\00:04:43.07 What right have I to force someone else 00:04:43.10\00:04:46.06 and at the ultimate to take their life away 00:04:46.09\00:04:48.44 because it differs from my view? 00:04:48.47\00:04:49.87 And what did Christ do? What did Christ do? 00:04:49.90\00:04:51.77 He gave His life. 00:04:51.80\00:04:52.83 He gave His life. He had-- 00:04:52.86\00:04:54.02 He had the perfect ability to take life. 00:04:54.05\00:04:57.76 He could have just you know, snapped a finger 00:04:57.79\00:04:59.91 and everybody on that hill 00:04:59.94\00:05:01.81 outside that the hill far away-- 00:05:01.84\00:05:03.70 Well, He said, I lay my life willingly. 00:05:03.73\00:05:06.08 Jesus said, you don't take it away I lay it, I give it. 00:05:06.11\00:05:08.72 Being a Christian is not easy, 00:05:08.75\00:05:10.92 being a Christian is making hard decisions, 00:05:10.95\00:05:14.58 being a Christian means that you are willing to die for it. 00:05:14.61\00:05:18.83 Well, in historically that was the case. 00:05:18.86\00:05:21.08 Being a Christian is not going to church 00:05:21.11\00:05:22.24 and paying tithe, than raising your kids 00:05:22.27\00:05:23.93 in the administration of the Lord 00:05:23.96\00:05:25.24 and saying the right things, 00:05:25.27\00:05:26.77 and watching the right programs, 00:05:26.80\00:05:27.95 and going to the right places. 00:05:27.98\00:05:30.00 Being a Christian is fundamentally 00:05:30.03\00:05:33.31 more important to you than your life? 00:05:33.34\00:05:36.73 That's the bottom line. 00:05:36.76\00:05:38.05 We often don't express it that way 00:05:38.08\00:05:39.55 but when all is striped away, that's the last statement 00:05:39.58\00:05:44.64 or the last proof of conviction 00:05:44.67\00:05:47.16 and very few people have shown 00:05:47.19\00:05:50.05 that they are willing to endure that one 00:05:50.08\00:05:51.59 but you know, Paul in Hebrews 11, isn't it? 00:05:51.62\00:05:56.39 Where he speaks about that, 00:05:56.42\00:05:57.96 people they gave up their lives, 00:05:57.99\00:05:59.18 they were killed, they were sworn into 00:05:59.21\00:06:00.70 and Jesus says, all for the-- 00:06:00.73\00:06:02.78 for the faith that they had in God. 00:06:02.81\00:06:04.71 And it says "Of whom the world was not worthy." 00:06:04.74\00:06:08.31 This is a great sacrifice but it's the ultimate proof 00:06:08.34\00:06:11.83 of your faith not to kill someone else. 00:06:11.86\00:06:13.62 That doesn't prove anything either in fanaticism, 00:06:13.65\00:06:16.08 hatred you know, a lot of negatives come 00:06:16.11\00:06:18.36 from projecting your faith violently. 00:06:18.39\00:06:21.15 But to live and even die for your faith 00:06:21.18\00:06:23.77 no matter what that proves a lot. 00:06:23.80\00:06:27.47 And that isn't easy to do that type of commitment, 00:06:27.50\00:06:32.08 to create that in your heart, where you are willing to die. 00:06:32.11\00:06:35.49 That is not easy. 00:06:35.52\00:06:37.16 How do we do it? 00:06:37.19\00:06:38.82 Now we know what the problem is, 00:06:38.85\00:06:40.09 now we know what the issue is, now we know where should be, 00:06:40.12\00:06:43.62 how do we bring ourselves to that point 00:06:43.65\00:06:45.91 in a world that says hey, you need to survive, 00:06:45.94\00:06:49.02 you need to you need to make it 00:06:49.05\00:06:51.76 even though no one else does. 00:06:51.79\00:06:53.37 It is your job to survive everything 00:06:53.40\00:06:55.98 and stand for what you believe and win. 00:06:56.01\00:06:58.95 How do you do that? 00:06:58.98\00:07:00.14 That's the biggest test 00:07:00.17\00:07:03.20 and I can give easy opinions on it from reading the Bible 00:07:03.23\00:07:07.35 but I think, that's what really proves 00:07:07.38\00:07:09.35 if someone loves their God has, has principles 00:07:09.38\00:07:14.21 through the ages most people faced 00:07:14.24\00:07:16.18 with that choice will back off 00:07:16.21\00:07:18.48 because as God said to-- Satan said to God about Job, 00:07:18.51\00:07:24.05 you know, touch his life, 00:07:24.08\00:07:25.58 he will back off nobody wants to die. 00:07:25.61\00:07:27.95 I mean, I'm paraphrasing it a little bit 00:07:27.98\00:07:29.27 but the idea is that-- yeah you can be faithful 00:07:29.30\00:07:31.56 when it is just a matter of you standing in the community 00:07:31.59\00:07:35.61 and you being-- and you are a wealthy man 00:07:35.64\00:07:37.59 like he is and things are going well 00:07:37.62\00:07:39.73 but, take everything away, harm his body 00:07:39.76\00:07:43.31 and then take his life away 00:07:43.34\00:07:45.81 or his life is at threat most people cave in. 00:07:45.84\00:07:49.85 But we spoke in other programs about idealism 00:07:49.88\00:07:53.20 and people for communism would sacrifice themselves, 00:07:53.23\00:07:58.14 people for grand political causes will do it on occasion. 00:07:58.17\00:08:01.87 Jesus said, you know, the greatest love 00:08:01.90\00:08:03.71 is to give your life for another person 00:08:03.74\00:08:05.82 and if somebody is so internalize 00:08:05.85\00:08:09.63 the principles of heaven, 00:08:09.66\00:08:11.06 so internalized the possibility of another life, 00:08:11.09\00:08:14.57 so internalize their obligation to other people 00:08:14.60\00:08:18.35 that to act wrongly is to let them down 00:08:18.38\00:08:21.08 and your God or like Joseph, he says, 00:08:21.11\00:08:23.11 how can I do this great sin against God? 00:08:23.14\00:08:25.32 Then if it came to it, 00:08:25.35\00:08:27.73 to even sacrifice your life that's the way it is. 00:08:27.76\00:08:30.99 We got to be a little bit careful on this 00:08:31.02\00:08:32.47 because we have seen on era-- 00:08:32.50\00:08:35.02 Or suicide bombers, we don't want to be-- 00:08:35.05\00:08:37.13 We have seen them fly planes at the buildings. 00:08:37.16\00:08:39.48 And we know regularly people are willing to put a bomb 00:08:39.51\00:08:43.07 and walk into a crowd. 00:08:43.10\00:08:44.55 That's not giving your life for a cause. 00:08:44.58\00:08:46.37 No, it is not. 00:08:46.40\00:08:48.02 And no one should-- 00:08:48.05\00:08:49.80 I don't think it's a healthy thing 00:08:49.83\00:08:51.26 to foolishly give away your life, 00:08:51.29\00:08:53.01 it's a precious thing. 00:08:53.04\00:08:54.40 There's no evidence in the Bible I read that 00:08:54.43\00:08:56.95 that anybody whether it's a larger or whatever 00:08:56.98\00:08:59.28 but they thought lightly of their life. 00:08:59.31\00:09:01.55 They didn't want to die but if it comes to a choice 00:09:01.58\00:09:04.47 between compromise, denying God and dying. 00:09:04.50\00:09:08.58 You know, if you have to die to remain steady so be it. 00:09:08.61\00:09:12.16 Because we have to realize 00:09:12.19\00:09:13.27 that even in our greatest example Christ Himself, 00:09:13.30\00:09:16.86 there were time is when His life was spared 00:09:16.89\00:09:19.18 where He walked through the crowd, 00:09:19.21\00:09:21.55 where He was not thrown over the cliff 00:09:21.58\00:09:23.96 for the storm did not sink the boat He was in. 00:09:23.99\00:09:27.91 God does not require us to go give our lives 00:09:27.94\00:09:31.03 just willy-nilly I mean there-- 00:09:31.06\00:09:32.89 there has to be a time and the place where 00:09:32.92\00:09:35.79 maybe there is nothing else that we do, 00:09:35.82\00:09:37.66 may be it's either this or-- 00:09:37.69\00:09:39.36 but life like you say is precious 00:09:39.39\00:09:40.84 we need to do everything we can to protect it and nurture it. 00:09:40.87\00:09:43.45 Absolutely, but circumstances 00:09:43.48\00:09:45.98 have brought many people to that moment of truth. 00:09:46.01\00:09:49.27 Whether they sort in Jesus said, 00:09:49.30\00:09:51.29 it's a hard saying but He says 00:09:51.32\00:09:53.20 "whoever loves father, mother, son or daughter 00:09:53.23\00:09:56.12 or anyone more that me is not worthy of Me." 00:09:56.15\00:09:58.79 And He come to that because we are not called 00:09:58.82\00:10:01.76 to give up natural affection but at the end of the day-- 00:10:01.79\00:10:06.76 and we talk about religion, 00:10:06.79\00:10:08.53 but religious liberty is the center of religion above you. 00:10:08.56\00:10:11.84 If it's worth anything, it's not really a big principle 00:10:11.87\00:10:16.44 if you give it away that easy, 00:10:16.47\00:10:17.59 if it worth anything you defend. 00:10:17.62\00:10:19.93 We need to be willing to both give our lives 00:10:19.96\00:10:23.78 for what we believe, and to live our lives 00:10:23.81\00:10:26.25 for what we believe, both are just as important. 00:10:26.28\00:10:28.78 Years ago I remember listing with some bemusement 00:10:31.33\00:10:34.73 as a preacher in one of my own Seventh-day Adventist churches, 00:10:34.76\00:10:40.32 preached very sincerely but a little erroneously 00:10:40.35\00:10:44.37 about one of the apostles who faced his moment of truth 00:10:44.40\00:10:48.50 and as the-- as the preacher said 00:10:48.53\00:10:51.20 as the axe came down and cut his head off, 00:10:51.23\00:10:54.40 his soul flew up to heaven and he was safe with the Lord. 00:10:54.43\00:10:58.19 Well, we know that's not true 00:10:58.22\00:11:00.70 but I must admit watching or hearing 00:11:00.73\00:11:04.99 of such things as the recent beheading 00:11:05.02\00:11:07.71 of a journalist by Islamic fundamentalists. 00:11:07.74\00:11:11.11 You get to thinking about what's going on here? 00:11:11.14\00:11:13.22 Because they belief that in cutting off the head 00:11:13.25\00:11:15.81 they have struck off an infidel from any chance of salvation. 00:11:15.84\00:11:20.76 Thanks be to God no matter what happens 00:11:20.79\00:11:24.74 whether we are martyred 00:11:24.77\00:11:26.83 or whether we just die a normal life, 00:11:26.86\00:11:29.40 its how we live our life that determines 00:11:29.43\00:11:32.62 whether we're safe with Lord. 00:11:32.65\00:11:34.37 We're not plucked out of some fire 00:11:34.40\00:11:38.58 and sent straight to heaven. 00:11:38.61\00:11:40.05 We live our lives here, we witness here, 00:11:40.08\00:11:43.39 we live before our Lord and He will redeem us, 00:11:43.42\00:11:46.59 no matter the difficulty. 00:11:46.62\00:11:49.80 For Liberty Insider this is Lincoln Steed. 00:11:49.83\00:11:52.89
