Welcome back to Liberty Insider. 00:00:06.57\00:00:08.75 Before the break with guest Alan Reinach, 00:00:08.78\00:00:11.82 we were talking, well, 00:00:11.85\00:00:12.88 initially we started off talking about the Citizens United case 00:00:12.91\00:00:15.82 that has really empowered corporations 00:00:15.85\00:00:19.57 essentially as individuals 00:00:19.60\00:00:21.01 and changed the whole electoral process 00:00:21.04\00:00:22.89 or not the electoral but the process building up 00:00:22.92\00:00:25.91 to an election, fund rising and so on. 00:00:25.94\00:00:27.87 And I want to come back to Citizens United, 00:00:27.90\00:00:30.33 Lincoln, because there was one particular conservative 00:00:30.36\00:00:34.63 who donated $60 million 00:00:34.66\00:00:37.20 to try to get Mitt Romney elected president 00:00:37.23\00:00:40.62 and obviously it didn't work. 00:00:40.65\00:00:43.33 And so people are tended to be lulled into 00:00:43.36\00:00:46.04 a sense of false securities though Citizens United 00:00:46.07\00:00:49.32 is not going to be a game changer. 00:00:49.35\00:00:51.72 Where it's a game changer is at the congressional elections, 00:00:51.75\00:00:56.35 at local elections, congressmen are being cowed into submission 00:00:56.38\00:01:01.58 by the threat of $3 million 00:01:01.61\00:01:04.43 as what it takes to unseat a congressmen. 00:01:04.46\00:01:06.74 And there are plenty of millionaires 00:01:06.77\00:01:08.58 and plenty of corporations 00:01:08.61\00:01:10.03 that would not blink at spending pretty well. 00:01:10.06\00:01:12.50 But we've already seen the game changer, 00:01:12.53\00:01:14.00 it's a corrupting influence. 00:01:14.03\00:01:16.05 The type of--you know, is a swift-boating 00:01:16.08\00:01:18.86 I mean it's just become a term in language is swift-boating. 00:01:18.89\00:01:23.15 I don't think that sort of thing 00:01:23.18\00:01:25.00 would happen without this phenomena. 00:01:25.03\00:01:26.31 There is one conservative industrialist family 00:01:26.34\00:01:29.19 that's well known that has started to implement 00:01:29.22\00:01:32.03 the strategy of reshaping the Republican Party 00:01:32.06\00:01:35.72 according to the tea party. 00:01:35.75\00:01:37.33 And we've seen the dire impact that that has had 00:01:37.36\00:01:41.80 in bringing Congress to its knees. 00:01:41.83\00:01:44.32 Congress is almost completely dysfunctional because 00:01:44.35\00:01:48.03 it is no longer a place of compromise, 00:01:48.06\00:01:50.29 if it's a place of ideological purity nothings gonna get done. 00:01:50.32\00:01:54.90 Let me-- I mean, I don't know 00:01:54.93\00:01:57.39 what's your likely response to this 00:01:57.42\00:01:59.13 but this is not a direct parallel 00:01:59.16\00:02:01.73 between modern packs not packs but the packs of Americana 00:02:01.76\00:02:06.48 and the system of empire, pseudo empire 00:02:06.51\00:02:10.00 that America represents and the Roman Empire 00:02:10.03\00:02:14.13 but you're talking about Congress. 00:02:14.16\00:02:16.08 There was a corruption of the power of the senate in Rome. 00:02:16.11\00:02:21.20 What--do you remember your history, what-- 00:02:21.23\00:02:24.42 wouldn't that dysfunction lead directly to autocracy. 00:02:24.45\00:02:29.31 Well, we have had the accumulation 00:02:29.34\00:02:32.97 of executive power the imperial presidency, 00:02:33.00\00:02:36.81 we've been writing about it at least since the 1960's. 00:02:36.84\00:02:40.47 But, you know, for all the conservatives 00:02:40.50\00:02:44.39 that like to criticize Obama's use of power, 00:02:44.42\00:02:48.28 he inherited it as it were. 00:02:48.31\00:02:51.09 If you have it, you're gonna use it. 00:02:51.12\00:02:52.78 You know, using drones. 00:02:52.81\00:02:55.27 You know, using drones as a primary instrument 00:02:55.30\00:02:58.24 of the war and terror as a substitute 00:02:58.27\00:03:01.66 for sending boots on the ground. 00:03:01.69\00:03:03.34 Yeah, killing American citizens with the use of drones 00:03:03.37\00:03:08.19 without due process of law 00:03:08.22\00:03:09.83 which is taking place under this administration. 00:03:09.86\00:03:12.23 But unless I'm forgetting some of our Roman history, 00:03:12.26\00:03:16.52 there was a shift within the senate, 00:03:16.55\00:03:18.59 there was always the aristocracy 00:03:18.62\00:03:21.17 if you like-- but I think it became consciously 00:03:21.20\00:03:24.12 the wealthy families represented there--the oligarchs of Rome 00:03:24.15\00:03:30.27 and that removed them from the people 00:03:30.30\00:03:32.69 because this was always been to represent the people. 00:03:32.72\00:03:34.62 And once that happened they became dysfunctional 00:03:34.65\00:03:37.29 because it was like mortgages of the capitalized 00:03:37.32\00:03:40.18 to pick another illustration from Italy. 00:03:40.21\00:03:42.85 And--no I don't believe these-- 00:03:42.88\00:03:44.83 I'm not suggesting parallels are direct because what really-- 00:03:44.86\00:03:48.52 well, we were saying working through Roman 00:03:48.55\00:03:50.03 and now today, it's human nature 00:03:50.06\00:03:51.99 how it works out as self interest. 00:03:52.02\00:03:54.38 The reality is we have an increasing divide 00:03:54.41\00:03:57.39 between the one percent and the 99 00:03:57.42\00:04:00.44 and the fact is the mega rich and the corporations 00:04:00.47\00:04:04.77 are increasingly dominating our political polices 00:04:04.80\00:04:08.64 and our debates and shaping the politics for the nation. 00:04:08.67\00:04:12.70 And those policies are not necessarily 00:04:12.73\00:04:16.03 in your best interest or mine and those of the listeners. 00:04:16.06\00:04:20.21 You know, I believe the TARP program 00:04:20.24\00:04:23.44 for example was necessary. 00:04:23.47\00:04:25.18 Did we need to pump liquidity into the banking system 00:04:25.21\00:04:27.97 to keep it from collapsing? Yes. 00:04:28.00\00:04:30.02 But did we need to do more than that. 00:04:30.05\00:04:31.83 Did we need to pump liquidity into Main Street 00:04:31.86\00:04:35.39 and do something to help Main Street recover? 00:04:35.42\00:04:39.01 There is a reason why five years later 00:04:39.04\00:04:43.02 we're nowhere close to the level of employment 00:04:43.05\00:04:45.81 that we had before the collapse 00:04:45.84\00:04:48.02 and the economy is limping along, 00:04:48.05\00:04:50.02 it's because of policies that have been 00:04:50.05\00:04:52.12 contouring to Wall Street. 00:04:52.15\00:04:53.48 Back to our text how now--you know, 00:04:53.51\00:04:56.07 you're wealthy because you held it back by fraud. 00:04:56.10\00:04:58.22 I mean, political developments countries 00:04:58.25\00:05:00.34 can do them right or wrong but what the root here 00:05:00.37\00:05:02.53 I think is the changed attitude towards fellowmen 00:05:02.56\00:05:05.07 and a Christian religious sensibility 00:05:05.10\00:05:07.70 is a moderating force and an equalizing force 00:05:07.73\00:05:10.03 and that's being withdrawn literally. 00:05:10.06\00:05:12.53 You and I believe this and the Bible, indicates that 00:05:12.56\00:05:15.52 at the very end of earth's history 00:05:15.55\00:05:17.72 God will no longer strive with men. 00:05:17.75\00:05:20.57 His parable no longer strive-- 00:05:20.60\00:05:21.90 So we're now more, and more under the natural inclinations 00:05:21.93\00:05:25.88 of people and there is more people that haven't accepted God 00:05:25.91\00:05:29.49 or a higher power and so these things follow through 00:05:29.52\00:05:33.38 to their logical end which is despotism, 00:05:33.41\00:05:36.96 it's unconcern for the-- for the common person, the poor. 00:05:36.99\00:05:41.29 People often ask Me, Lincoln, 'cause 00:05:41.32\00:05:44.16 I do a whole series on the coming economic collapse 00:05:44.19\00:05:47.43 from a Biblical perspective. 00:05:47.46\00:05:48.91 And they ask me if you know, 00:05:48.94\00:05:50.51 what's gonna bring this about? 00:05:50.54\00:05:52.01 And of course the Bible doesn't tell us 00:05:52.04\00:05:54.28 and I don't have a crystal ball 00:05:54.31\00:05:55.77 but I'll take a lesson from the example of Greece. 00:05:55.80\00:06:00.03 You know, Greece is continuing 00:06:00.06\00:06:02.02 to be a drag on the European Union. 00:06:02.05\00:06:04.42 And I ask my brother who is--you know, 00:06:04.45\00:06:07.73 I'm the first in three generations 00:06:07.76\00:06:09.94 to leave Wall Street. 00:06:09.97\00:06:12.10 My whole family has been in Wall Street 00:06:12.13\00:06:13.75 for three generations. 00:06:13.78\00:06:15.01 And he is a trader, 00:06:15.04\00:06:16.15 I said, how is it that a 23rd rate economy 00:06:16.18\00:06:20.06 can have such a dire impact on global markets. 00:06:20.09\00:06:24.08 Well, it's because of centralization, 00:06:24.11\00:06:27.26 it's because of globalization. 00:06:27.29\00:06:29.81 The reason that we have the potential 00:06:29.84\00:06:32.62 for the kind of global economic collapse 00:06:32.65\00:06:35.42 that Revelation portrays is because of this consolidation, 00:06:35.45\00:06:40.20 this globalization that is tying everything up 00:06:40.23\00:06:43.59 into a nice neat bundle that can burn with one flash point. 00:06:43.62\00:06:48.71 You must have been reading Ellen White. 00:06:48.74\00:06:51.77 One of the pioneers-- Binding in bundles to be burned. 00:06:51.80\00:06:54.42 Seventh-day Adventist Church pioneer 00:06:54.45\00:06:56.27 and a visionary Ellen White, 00:06:56.30\00:06:57.40 she made that comment about the end of time 00:06:57.43\00:06:59.63 that-- she use confederacies. Yes. 00:06:59.66\00:07:03.26 Confederacy of business, confederacies of ideology, 00:07:03.29\00:07:06.67 They're uniting and we've seen-- I mean, 00:07:06.70\00:07:08.76 the takeovers in business, 00:07:08.79\00:07:11.47 the European Union collecting countries 00:07:11.50\00:07:14.38 when the Soviet Union collapsed. 00:07:14.41\00:07:15.45 It seems to be the spirit of the times. Right. 00:07:15.48\00:07:17.71 And, yes, we see it in the prophetic sense 00:07:17.74\00:07:20.13 but it's clearly happening before everyone's eyes. 00:07:20.16\00:07:22.62 It is. And-- And I'm surprised that it's happening 00:07:22.65\00:07:25.53 because apart from anything else I thought I studied this 00:07:25.56\00:07:29.13 that the lesson of World War I, 00:07:29.16\00:07:32.98 was that these bundles lead directly to World War I. 00:07:33.01\00:07:35.79 Right. It's a bad phenomenon. 00:07:35.82\00:07:37.32 It's sort of whole or nothing, we all gonna down together. 00:07:37.35\00:07:40.13 Right. 00:07:40.16\00:07:41.27 So if there is one thing though 00:07:41.30\00:07:43.51 rather than take a passive attitude or you know, 00:07:43.54\00:07:47.08 fatalistic attitude there is nothing I can do. 00:07:47.11\00:07:49.66 For starters the role of the church 00:07:49.69\00:07:52.47 is to be prophetic, not priestly. 00:07:52.50\00:07:55.21 The priesthood is part of the establishment, 00:07:55.24\00:07:57.62 part of the status quo and helps to maintain the social order. 00:07:57.65\00:08:02.08 The prophets are apart from the social order 00:08:02.11\00:08:04.85 and they are to call the society to a higher level. 00:08:04.88\00:08:09.33 Now if we as a church are going to call for repentance, 00:08:09.36\00:08:13.41 call for revival, call for a higher standard of moral living 00:08:13.44\00:08:17.30 then our footprint, our carbon footprint has to be reduced. 00:08:17.33\00:08:22.04 Our-- you know, consuming the products of slave labor, 00:08:22.07\00:08:27.04 we have to think twice about what products we are buying 00:08:27.07\00:08:30.26 and who is making them. 00:08:30.29\00:08:31.73 You know, we have to start-- And which investments-- 00:08:31.76\00:08:33.96 We have to start applying morality 00:08:33.99\00:08:36.91 to the decisions of our everyday life 00:08:36.94\00:08:39.21 and then we have the courage to talk about 00:08:39.24\00:08:43.41 how morality influences all of our decisions in life 00:08:43.44\00:08:48.31 and it's not just about, you know, the issues 00:08:48.34\00:08:51.13 for example of sexuality that are the things 00:08:51.16\00:08:54.38 that church is probably speaking about. 00:08:54.41\00:08:55.44 We need to be morally consistence 00:08:55.47\00:08:57.18 what you are saying. Right. 00:08:57.21\00:08:58.67 And also when you say prophetic 00:08:58.70\00:09:01.75 that's not to condemn the world 00:09:01.78\00:09:03.20 but to call the world to answer to a higher authority 00:09:03.23\00:09:08.12 and put them on their best behavior. Well-- 00:09:08.15\00:09:11.54 And the-- there's a law that expects them 00:09:11.57\00:09:14.40 to behave differently. 00:09:14.43\00:09:15.78 That is-- every generation the prophets and the preachers 00:09:15.81\00:09:19.74 have decried the moral decline of the age. 00:09:19.77\00:09:21.53 Unfortunately Jesus says, 00:09:21.56\00:09:22.78 which of the prophets haven't you killed. 00:09:22.81\00:09:25.41 So it's not always in a self, you know, 00:09:25.44\00:09:28.38 you do not think in your own time. 00:09:28.41\00:09:30.59 But it still needs to be done correctly. 00:09:30.62\00:09:32.30 I don't think of-- let me say prophetic 00:09:32.33\00:09:34.99 it can't be good to just sort of lash out at the world 00:09:35.02\00:09:38.13 but call it to a higher, higher calling. 00:09:38.16\00:09:40.47 But you know, it is a myth that too many Christians have 00:09:40.50\00:09:45.02 that somehow the free market is Biblical or Christian. 00:09:45.05\00:09:48.55 The free market is built on greed. 00:09:48.58\00:09:51.18 There is that famous Michael Douglas 00:09:51.21\00:09:53.06 line in the movie where he says, in the sequel he says, 00:09:53.09\00:09:57.50 I used say the greed is good now it appears to be legal. 00:09:57.53\00:10:01.68 Well, Christians should not be endorsing a system of greed, 00:10:01.71\00:10:05.41 we should be speaking a prophetic voice 00:10:05.44\00:10:08.50 to a higher moral agenda 00:10:08.53\00:10:10.94 when it comes to the economy and concern for our fellowman. 00:10:10.97\00:10:14.86 Confederations have an interesting history. 00:10:18.68\00:10:22.35 In pre-history there's the story of Nimrod, the hunter 00:10:22.38\00:10:27.00 and his leadership in what became Babylon. 00:10:27.03\00:10:30.45 As the association of Nimrod with the Tower of Babel 00:10:30.48\00:10:33.73 and man's efforts to challenge God himself 00:10:33.76\00:10:36.36 by building a great edifice 00:10:36.39\00:10:40.04 that was over when God dispersed men. 00:10:40.07\00:10:42.70 But when I look at the other side of the Biblical story 00:10:42.73\00:10:46.28 in Revelation it tells there that 00:10:46.31\00:10:49.01 when all of men's worst endeavors are put to an end 00:10:49.04\00:10:52.34 when the earth is cleansed and ready for a new beginning 00:10:52.37\00:10:56.67 God's eternal Holy City comes down 00:10:56.70\00:11:00.74 and descends to the earth itself with several miles on a side. 00:11:00.77\00:11:05.51 Its message bigger than the Tower of Babel. 00:11:05.54\00:11:07.42 And they're God's people look down on the wicked 00:11:07.45\00:11:10.76 who confederate again for the last time 00:11:10.79\00:11:13.46 against God and His principle. 00:11:13.49\00:11:16.25 We need to realize that man in his own inclination 00:11:16.28\00:11:19.97 really doesn't work for a godly end. 00:11:20.00\00:11:22.48 We need to realize that God's people 00:11:22.51\00:11:25.10 have the ability, the opportunity 00:11:25.13\00:11:27.48 to unite themselves with Him for ultimate freedom, 00:11:27.51\00:11:31.20 for ultimate security and an ultimate solution 00:11:31.23\00:11:34.92 to the confederations of evil men. 00:11:34.95\00:11:38.40 This is Lincoln Steed for Liberty Insider. 00:11:38.43\00:11:42.21
