Hello, I'm Clive Nash. 00:00:01.36\00:00:02.86 Welcome to Let God Speak. 00:00:02.90\00:00:05.13 Today, we come to the exciting conclusion 00:00:05.17\00:00:07.37 of our series looking at the Book of Daniel. 00:00:07.40\00:00:10.47 The Book of Daniel began with God's people 00:00:10.51\00:00:12.81 being taken captive into all Babylon. 00:00:12.84\00:00:15.51 Today, we will find it ends with the deliverance 00:00:15.54\00:00:17.81 of God's people out of end time Babylon. 00:00:17.85\00:00:20.92 Let's open our Bibles and investigate this good news. 00:00:20.95\00:00:23.89 Hello. 00:00:50.38\00:00:51.71 On our panel today, 00:00:51.75\00:00:53.08 we have Andrew Russell and Steven Groom. 00:00:53.11\00:00:54.82 Welcome, gentlemen. 00:00:54.85\00:00:56.18 It's good to have you with us today. 00:00:56.22\00:00:57.55 Thanks. Good to be here. 00:00:57.59\00:00:58.92 Before we begin our discussion, let's take time to pray. 00:00:58.95\00:01:02.32 Our Wonderful Father in heaven, 00:01:02.36\00:01:03.69 we thank You for Your merciful provision 00:01:03.73\00:01:05.46 of the things that concerning the future 00:01:05.49\00:01:08.83 in the Book of Daniel. 00:01:08.86\00:01:10.80 And we thank You that You have done this 00:01:10.83\00:01:12.27 out of Your love for us. 00:01:12.30\00:01:13.64 As we study today and talk, we pray that Your spirit 00:01:13.67\00:01:16.64 will be here and will be clearly evident 00:01:16.67\00:01:19.04 that we ask in Jesus' name. 00:01:19.07\00:01:20.74 Amen. 00:01:20.78\00:01:22.11 Amen. 00:01:22.14\00:01:23.71 Well, the Old Testament Book of Daniel 00:01:23.75\00:01:26.85 is like a miniature version of the battle 00:01:26.88\00:01:30.55 between good and evil. 00:01:30.59\00:01:31.92 And, Andrew, how did the world begin? 00:01:31.95\00:01:35.56 Yeah. 00:01:35.59\00:01:36.93 Well, look, I like what you said there. 00:01:36.96\00:01:38.63 You referenced the world begins here. 00:01:38.66\00:01:40.20 It's kind of captures a story of Adam and Eve 00:01:40.23\00:01:43.23 in the very beginning, doesn't it? 00:01:43.26\00:01:45.37 And the battle between good and evil. 00:01:45.40\00:01:47.47 And let's revisit. 00:01:47.50\00:01:49.80 If we go back to just quick revisit to Chapter 1:1, 00:01:49.84\00:01:53.07 we'll find that it tells us here, 00:01:53.11\00:01:56.28 "In the third year of the reign 00:01:56.31\00:01:58.11 of Jehoiakim King of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar 00:01:58.15\00:02:00.92 the king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, 00:02:00.95\00:02:03.15 and besieged it." 00:02:03.18\00:02:04.69 So here's Jerusalem, 00:02:04.72\00:02:07.62 finding themselves in captivity, 00:02:07.66\00:02:09.46 the enemy comes, and he takes captive the people of God. 00:02:09.49\00:02:13.66 And so, yeah, we can think of what took place here. 00:02:13.70\00:02:19.63 Actually, we should go to first six 00:02:19.67\00:02:22.34 because it actually highlights who's actually involved here. 00:02:22.37\00:02:26.98 In verse 6, it says, "Now among these were, 00:02:27.01\00:02:28.81 of the children of Judah, Daniel, 00:02:28.84\00:02:30.78 Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah." 00:02:30.81\00:02:34.02 And so here we get our key characters, 00:02:34.05\00:02:37.29 of course, Daniel is the standout one here, 00:02:37.32\00:02:40.59 but we going to get a bigger picture 00:02:40.62\00:02:43.53 of this battle as it unfolds. 00:02:43.56\00:02:45.73 So it's like the story of the beginning of the world 00:02:45.76\00:02:47.96 in a way, isn't it, Andrew? 00:02:48.00\00:02:49.86 Yes, yeah. 00:02:49.90\00:02:51.23 You know, you've got coming out of good 00:02:51.27\00:02:52.93 and into like an evil situation. 00:02:52.97\00:02:55.60 Yeah, God created all things good and Adam and Eve 00:02:55.64\00:02:58.57 the first of mankind were created in His image, 00:02:58.61\00:03:02.78 but then we have the story of the fall. 00:03:02.81\00:03:05.18 And we have then Satan taking captive mankind. 00:03:05.21\00:03:09.42 Which including 00:03:09.45\00:03:10.79 all of God's people in this world, 00:03:10.82\00:03:12.29 we can't escape that, can we? 00:03:12.32\00:03:13.79 Actually, there's kind of like a symbolism 00:03:13.82\00:03:15.42 between Jerusalem and Babylon, isn't there in the story? 00:03:15.46\00:03:18.56 Let's go over to Chapter 12 now, 00:03:18.59\00:03:20.70 which is the focus of our study today. 00:03:20.73\00:03:23.63 And Daniel 12:1, 00:03:23.67\00:03:27.70 which is, as we were discussing, 00:03:27.74\00:03:30.31 off camera is really kind of like an extension 00:03:30.34\00:03:33.38 of the previous chapter because it says at that time, 00:03:33.41\00:03:37.18 commenting on what's gone before, 00:03:37.21\00:03:39.31 "At that time Michael shall stand up, 00:03:39.35\00:03:42.02 the great prince who stands 00:03:42.05\00:03:43.39 watch over the sons of your people. 00:03:43.42\00:03:45.79 And there shall be a time of trouble, 00:03:45.82\00:03:47.26 such as never was since there was a nation, 00:03:47.29\00:03:49.96 even to that time. 00:03:49.99\00:03:52.09 And at that time your people shall be delivered, 00:03:52.13\00:03:55.83 everyone who is found written in the book." 00:03:55.86\00:03:58.83 Steven, after all the prophecies 00:03:58.87\00:04:02.74 that have gone before in the Book of Daniel, 00:04:02.77\00:04:04.57 and the historical counts to, 00:04:04.61\00:04:06.88 you know, the story of the three worthies 00:04:06.91\00:04:09.71 in the fiery furnace, 00:04:09.74\00:04:11.08 Daniel in the lion's den and so on. 00:04:11.11\00:04:13.88 Is this last chapter bring us good news or bad news? 00:04:13.92\00:04:18.45 Or what is it? 00:04:18.49\00:04:19.82 Ultimately, good news. 00:04:19.85\00:04:21.29 It starts at that time, we must say that this refers 00:04:21.32\00:04:24.93 to the end of Chapter 11, 00:04:24.96\00:04:27.63 which is speaking of the future events 00:04:27.66\00:04:29.36 when, "The king of the South shall plant 00:04:29.40\00:04:32.67 the tents of his palace 00:04:32.70\00:04:34.04 between the seas in the glorious holy mountain, 00:04:34.07\00:04:36.04 yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him." 00:04:36.07\00:04:39.57 Most recognize that this is still future. 00:04:39.61\00:04:42.01 So in a future time, Jesus will stand up, 00:04:42.04\00:04:45.21 and He says there'll be a time of trouble. 00:04:45.25\00:04:47.55 But after that trouble comes salvation, 00:04:47.58\00:04:51.22 deliverance, and justice. 00:04:51.25\00:04:52.75 And the same pitch 00:04:52.79\00:04:54.12 can be found in the Book of Revelation, 00:04:54.16\00:04:55.49 which is good news for His people. 00:04:55.52\00:04:57.03 And this is what God would have His people 00:04:57.06\00:04:59.76 for upon the future deliverance. 00:04:59.79\00:05:02.43 Okay, one of the interesting features 00:05:02.46\00:05:04.50 of the Book of Daniel, is that the first 11 chapters 00:05:04.53\00:05:10.21 or every verse, verse 1 of every chapter 00:05:10.24\00:05:14.18 starts with the name of a pagan king. 00:05:14.21\00:05:16.54 What's different about chapter 12? 00:05:16.58\00:05:20.25 Good point. 00:05:20.28\00:05:21.62 Well, Chapters 1, 5, 7 and 8. 00:05:21.65\00:05:24.49 Chapter 1 starts with the King Nebuchadnezzar, 00:05:24.52\00:05:27.79 and 5, 7, 8 begin with the King Belshazzar. 00:05:27.82\00:05:32.43 These start with pagan, Babylonian kings. 00:05:32.46\00:05:36.40 And then we have Chapters 6, 9, 10, 11. 00:05:36.43\00:05:39.70 They all begin with Medo-Persian kings. 00:05:39.73\00:05:43.91 And that was Darius, 00:05:43.94\00:05:45.47 and one there of Chapter 10 begins with Cyrus. 00:05:45.51\00:05:48.51 But Chapter 12 begins with the heavenly prince 00:05:48.54\00:05:52.05 his name is Michael. 00:05:52.08\00:05:53.65 And we read in 10:13. 00:05:53.68\00:05:58.69 He is called a one of the chief princes 00:05:58.72\00:06:02.22 or great princes. 00:06:02.26\00:06:03.59 And if you go back to 12:1, he is called the great prince. 00:06:03.63\00:06:08.30 He is the heavenly prince who stands for his people. 00:06:08.33\00:06:11.17 So Daniel wants us to lift, 00:06:11.20\00:06:13.80 as he often does in Chapter 7 and 8. 00:06:13.84\00:06:16.77 He wants us to take our focus on what the bad things 00:06:16.81\00:06:19.67 that are happening in the world with these evil kingdoms 00:06:19.71\00:06:22.68 and put our focus in the heavenly realm 00:06:22.71\00:06:25.55 where we have a great prince who is standing up 00:06:25.58\00:06:28.08 and representing his people. 00:06:28.12\00:06:29.88 Okay, so this is an important point, 00:06:29.92\00:06:33.96 isn't it about who Michael is? 00:06:33.99\00:06:36.32 Yes. And what he does. 00:06:36.36\00:06:37.69 Yes. 00:06:37.73\00:06:39.06 Andrew, he is described here in verse 1 as the great prince 00:06:39.09\00:06:42.76 who stands watch over the sons of your people. 00:06:42.80\00:06:45.87 So can you tell us a bit more about who he is, 00:06:45.90\00:06:49.50 and how we know who he is? 00:06:49.54\00:06:51.21 It's part of the good news that Steven mentioned 00:06:51.24\00:06:53.17 just before this is the good news. 00:06:53.21\00:06:55.28 That one is going to stand for his people here 00:06:55.31\00:06:59.01 in the context of Daniel 12. 00:06:59.05\00:07:00.75 And so when he stands for his people, 00:07:00.78\00:07:03.62 effectively he acts as an intercessor 00:07:03.65\00:07:05.95 for his people. 00:07:05.99\00:07:07.36 And when we study this out in its entirety, 00:07:07.39\00:07:09.96 it's really referring to Christ. 00:07:09.99\00:07:11.93 It's a name that he implied prior 00:07:11.96\00:07:15.86 to coming to this earth as an... 00:07:15.90\00:07:17.60 Not all commentators 00:07:17.63\00:07:18.97 would agree with that viewpoint. 00:07:19.00\00:07:20.34 So how would you substantiate that? 00:07:20.37\00:07:23.41 Well, I think the scriptures are very clear. 00:07:23.44\00:07:24.94 Well, let's get to Romans 8 firstly, 00:07:24.97\00:07:27.44 and we'll share a scripture here. 00:07:27.48\00:07:29.11 In Romans 8, 00:07:29.14\00:07:30.75 we find a reference to a Christ. 00:07:30.78\00:07:35.85 He's intercessory. 00:07:35.88\00:07:37.22 Romans 8:34. 00:07:37.25\00:07:38.59 Okay, So Daniel 12:1 00:07:38.62\00:07:40.56 says that He was stands for your people. 00:07:40.59\00:07:42.99 That's right. Okay? 00:07:43.02\00:07:44.36 That's right. 00:07:44.39\00:07:45.73 This is why you 00:07:45.76\00:07:47.10 bring in this intercessory idea, is it? 00:07:47.13\00:07:48.46 Exactly. Exactly. 00:07:48.50\00:07:49.83 And that's pointed to Christ. 00:07:49.86\00:07:51.20 We see that over and over again in the scriptures. 00:07:51.23\00:07:52.57 So in verse 34, it says, "Who is he that condemneth? 00:07:52.60\00:07:55.60 It is Christ that died, yea rather, 00:07:55.64\00:07:58.34 that is risen again, 00:07:58.37\00:07:59.71 who is even at the right hand of God, 00:07:59.74\00:08:01.88 who also makes intercession for us." 00:08:01.91\00:08:04.81 And so we find Christ is appointed 00:08:04.85\00:08:07.88 as a mediator here. 00:08:07.92\00:08:09.62 And if we go also to Hebrews 7. 00:08:09.65\00:08:13.15 Hebrews 7:25. 00:08:13.19\00:08:14.92 We see that again. 00:08:14.96\00:08:17.63 Hebrew is all about Christ intercession, isn't it? 00:08:17.66\00:08:19.73 That's right. 00:08:19.76\00:08:21.10 Exactly. 00:08:21.13\00:08:22.46 Christ says as a high priest. 00:08:22.50\00:08:24.77 Hebrews 7:25, that says here, 00:08:24.80\00:08:27.44 "Wherefore he is able also to save them 00:08:27.47\00:08:31.11 to the uttermost that come unto God by him, 00:08:31.14\00:08:33.71 seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them." 00:08:33.74\00:08:37.68 So his intercession is one that is salvation. 00:08:37.71\00:08:41.12 And Michael is portrayed as standing for Christ. 00:08:41.15\00:08:46.45 Sorry, standing for his people. 00:08:46.49\00:08:49.69 Now when we look at this, 00:08:49.72\00:08:51.39 we find also in 1 Timothy 2:5, 00:08:51.43\00:08:53.23 that there is only one mediator between God and man, 00:08:53.26\00:08:56.00 and that's the man. 00:08:56.03\00:08:57.37 Jesus Christ. Christ Jesus. 00:08:57.40\00:08:58.73 And the very name Michael itself 00:08:58.77\00:09:02.67 is means one who is like God. 00:09:02.70\00:09:05.77 Okay, so he is like God himself, 00:09:05.81\00:09:08.84 one of the godheads we might say. 00:09:08.88\00:09:10.61 One of the chief princes the scripture 00:09:10.65\00:09:12.68 that Steven referred to before. 00:09:12.71\00:09:14.42 That's part of the godhead. 00:09:14.45\00:09:16.05 So we find this interchangeable term 00:09:16.08\00:09:18.09 between prince and king in the Bible. 00:09:18.12\00:09:21.92 And prince when it talks about him 00:09:21.96\00:09:23.63 being the prince 00:09:23.66\00:09:24.99 it's an interchangeable term refers to... 00:09:25.03\00:09:26.73 Also we find in Revelation, 00:09:26.76\00:09:28.26 the Bible gives many names to Jesus, doesn't it? 00:09:28.30\00:09:30.90 So we wouldn't be, shouldn't be surprised 00:09:30.93\00:09:33.13 that His name changes throughout in the book. 00:09:33.17\00:09:35.10 Exactly. 00:09:35.14\00:09:36.47 The word. The word. 00:09:36.50\00:09:37.84 Yes. Michael. 00:09:37.87\00:09:39.21 Yeah. Okay. 00:09:39.24\00:09:40.58 So, Steven, 00:09:40.61\00:09:42.28 going back to Daniel 12:1, 00:09:42.31\00:09:45.38 it says that there'll be a time of trouble. 00:09:45.41\00:09:49.18 When does this trouble going to happen? 00:09:49.22\00:09:52.12 Well, as we said before, at this time, 00:09:52.15\00:09:55.22 we're just talking about 00:09:55.26\00:09:56.59 the last few verses in Daniel 11. 00:09:56.62\00:10:00.56 And this is still future. 00:10:00.60\00:10:02.06 So at a future time, Michael stands up. 00:10:02.10\00:10:05.53 Now this is a term that means that he ceases his mediation 00:10:05.57\00:10:09.44 for mankind as our heavenly high priest, 00:10:09.47\00:10:13.17 he doesn't cease for those who have accepted him. 00:10:13.21\00:10:16.04 And to understand that a bit better 00:10:16.08\00:10:17.55 I'd like to go to Revelation 22, 00:10:17.58\00:10:20.58 Revelation 22:11. 00:10:20.62\00:10:24.99 "And at that time when Jesus stands up 00:10:25.02\00:10:26.96 and ceases His mediation, it says in verse 11, 00:10:26.99\00:10:32.16 and He will say, "He who is unjust, 00:10:32.19\00:10:34.43 let him be unjust still, 00:10:34.46\00:10:36.00 he who is filthy, let him be filthy still, 00:10:36.03\00:10:38.63 he who is righteous, let him be righteous still, 00:10:38.67\00:10:41.00 he who is holy, let him be holy still." 00:10:41.04\00:10:43.41 So it is at this time when Jesus ceases mediation, 00:10:43.44\00:10:46.84 then it is too late to accept Him 00:10:46.88\00:10:49.31 and take Him as our Heavenly Lord and Priest. 00:10:49.34\00:10:55.25 So what I think I believe 00:10:55.28\00:10:57.19 it means it's so much importance 00:10:57.22\00:10:59.05 to our time now 00:10:59.09\00:11:00.82 to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior 00:11:00.86\00:11:02.86 because the Bible tells us that at a time, 00:11:02.89\00:11:05.33 there's coming a time when it will be too late. 00:11:05.36\00:11:07.76 It's as though the world is on probation 00:11:07.80\00:11:09.73 at the moment, isn't it? 00:11:09.76\00:11:11.10 You know, and that will actually close. 00:11:11.13\00:11:13.94 Yes, we don't have forever. 00:11:13.97\00:11:15.57 Today, the Bible says if you hear His voice 00:11:15.60\00:11:18.21 respond today because tomorrow may never come. 00:11:18.24\00:11:23.28 The verse goes on to say, "It'll be a time of trouble 00:11:23.31\00:11:25.85 such as never was, since there was a nation 00:11:25.88\00:11:29.78 even to that time." 00:11:29.82\00:11:31.32 So it's like a time of trouble 00:11:31.35\00:11:33.66 without parallel in history, Steven. 00:11:33.69\00:11:37.03 Trouble for whom I might say? 00:11:37.06\00:11:40.50 Yes, well, it would seem that the trouble 00:11:40.53\00:11:42.40 would be for God's people because the wicked 00:11:42.43\00:11:44.53 as the Holy Spirit is withdrawn from the earth, 00:11:44.57\00:11:47.54 not from God's people, 00:11:47.57\00:11:48.90 but from the earth and those who rejected Him. 00:11:48.94\00:11:51.34 The wicked seemed to go out and try to kill God's people, 00:11:51.37\00:11:55.58 but to stop them the Bible says in Revelation 16, 00:11:55.61\00:11:58.61 and I just quote it, it says, 00:11:58.65\00:12:00.28 "The seven last plagues from God fall on those 00:12:00.32\00:12:04.79 who rejected Him." 00:12:04.82\00:12:06.15 And so these plagues stop them 00:12:06.19\00:12:08.19 from attacking and killing God's people, 00:12:08.22\00:12:10.16 which is good news. 00:12:10.19\00:12:11.53 So now we need to realize, 00:12:11.56\00:12:14.50 and these people are called spiritual Babylon. 00:12:14.53\00:12:17.00 And so now we need... 00:12:17.03\00:12:18.37 That's an interesting term, isn't it? 00:12:18.40\00:12:19.73 Yes. 00:12:19.77\00:12:21.10 We got literal Babylon here in Daniel 00:12:21.14\00:12:22.57 and then spiritual Babylon in the Book of Revelation. 00:12:22.60\00:12:24.57 And so now is the time that we need to set out 00:12:24.61\00:12:29.01 ourselves on the side of Jerusalem or God's people. 00:12:29.04\00:12:32.78 And it's really echoing Christ's Words, isn't it? 00:12:32.81\00:12:34.65 Matthew 24:21. 00:12:34.68\00:12:36.12 He said, "There will be a time as travel 00:12:36.15\00:12:38.42 such as never has been 00:12:38.45\00:12:39.95 since the beginning of the world." 00:12:39.99\00:12:41.32 Yeah. 00:12:41.36\00:12:42.69 This is because the Holy Spirit is withdrawn from the earth 00:12:42.72\00:12:45.79 and Satan has full reign over those who are... 00:12:45.83\00:12:48.06 Now Babylon itself. 00:12:48.10\00:12:49.63 Literal Babylon was overthrown. 00:12:49.66\00:12:51.30 What about spiritual Babylon? 00:12:51.33\00:12:53.23 Yes, it will be destroyed too. 00:12:53.27\00:12:55.40 Yeah, by God. 00:12:55.44\00:12:58.64 I'd like to go back to Daniel 12:1 again, 00:12:58.67\00:13:02.21 and the second half of the verse 00:13:02.24\00:13:04.45 that says at that time, "Your people will be delivered, 00:13:04.48\00:13:10.09 everyone who is found written in the book." 00:13:10.12\00:13:14.69 Interesting term there, in the book. 00:13:14.72\00:13:16.42 Andrew, I know the Bible is trying to use human language 00:13:16.46\00:13:20.46 to express heavenly things. 00:13:20.50\00:13:22.06 Yes. 00:13:22.10\00:13:23.43 So it uses this term that it's written in a book 00:13:23.47\00:13:25.43 why is it said to be written in a book. 00:13:25.47\00:13:27.70 Yeah. 00:13:27.74\00:13:29.07 God's trying to convey a message 00:13:29.10\00:13:30.61 in a certain reality. 00:13:30.64\00:13:33.81 If we look at the words of Christ in Luke 10, 00:13:33.84\00:13:37.11 and we turn to verse 20, Luke 10:20, 00:13:37.15\00:13:41.52 Christ refers to the names of His people being written. 00:13:41.55\00:13:45.75 In verse 20, 00:13:45.79\00:13:47.12 it says, "Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, 00:13:47.16\00:13:49.26 that the spirits are subject unto you." 00:13:49.29\00:13:51.36 He's speaking to His disciples there. 00:13:51.39\00:13:53.46 But He says, "But rather rejoice, 00:13:53.50\00:13:54.90 because your names are written," where? 00:13:54.93\00:13:57.20 In heaven. In heaven. 00:13:57.23\00:13:59.47 And we need to understand the Bible says 00:13:59.50\00:14:01.40 that there is a record in heaven. 00:14:01.44\00:14:03.20 If we look at Revelation 13:8 just quickly. 00:14:03.24\00:14:06.61 Revelation 13:8. 00:14:06.64\00:14:09.41 And actually Revelation 13 is really referring 00:14:09.44\00:14:12.41 to how the great time of trouble will play out 00:14:12.45\00:14:15.95 at the time of the end. 00:14:15.98\00:14:17.49 Revelation 13:8. 00:14:17.52\00:14:19.85 And notice it says, 00:14:19.89\00:14:21.22 "And the temple was filled with..." 00:14:21.26\00:14:22.59 Oh, I'm in wrong chapter, sorry, 00:14:22.62\00:14:23.96 Revelation 13:8, 00:14:23.99\00:14:25.33 "And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, 00:14:25.36\00:14:28.20 whose names are not written in the book of life 00:14:28.23\00:14:31.43 of the Lambs slain 00:14:31.47\00:14:33.03 from the foundation of the world." 00:14:33.07\00:14:35.77 And in context, there's actually talking about 00:14:35.80\00:14:38.01 the final battle that will play out, 00:14:38.04\00:14:39.94 but it's referring to the Lamb's book of life. 00:14:39.97\00:14:44.05 Yeah, that's interesting, Andrew, 00:14:44.08\00:14:45.41 because back in Revelation 3:5, 00:14:45.45\00:14:50.42 it says, "He who overcomes." 00:14:50.45\00:14:53.15 This is writing to the church of Sardis. 00:14:53.19\00:14:54.99 "He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, 00:14:55.02\00:14:58.69 and I will not blot out his name 00:14:58.73\00:15:01.23 from the Book of Life. 00:15:01.26\00:15:02.86 But I'll confess his name before My Father 00:15:02.90\00:15:05.30 and before His angels." 00:15:05.33\00:15:07.60 Can we choose to have our names 00:15:07.64\00:15:09.47 in the Book of Life or not in the Book of Life? 00:15:09.50\00:15:12.27 Absolutely. 00:15:12.31\00:15:13.64 God gives us that choice, doesn't He? 00:15:13.68\00:15:15.34 He gives us a choice 00:15:15.38\00:15:16.71 and to choose Christ is to choose life 00:15:16.75\00:15:19.61 and to have our names written in the Book of Life. 00:15:19.65\00:15:22.35 The Bible also refers to the Book of Remembrance. 00:15:22.38\00:15:24.72 In Malachi 3:16, 00:15:24.75\00:15:26.86 the Book of Remembrance is mentioned. 00:15:26.89\00:15:28.62 And, you know, angels get to look into these books. 00:15:28.66\00:15:32.39 Yes. 00:15:32.43\00:15:33.76 And that's mostly all-important thing, isn't? 00:15:33.80\00:15:36.26 Getting our names written in the Lamb's Book of Life. 00:15:36.30\00:15:38.63 The most important thing that we need to do and... 00:15:38.67\00:15:40.80 The biggest decision in life 00:15:40.84\00:15:42.24 is what are we doing about eternal life. 00:15:42.27\00:15:43.81 But it must also be remembered that in 00:15:43.84\00:15:45.81 Revelation 3:5 it says that our names 00:15:45.84\00:15:48.14 can be blotted out by somehow apostatizing 00:15:48.18\00:15:52.38 from the truth or not being faithful to Jesus, 00:15:52.41\00:15:54.98 and this is a sad thing. 00:15:55.02\00:15:56.45 So we need to accept Jesus and remain faithful 00:15:56.48\00:15:59.29 to have our names remain in that Lamb's Book of Life. 00:15:59.32\00:16:01.62 In the context of what we've studied 00:16:01.66\00:16:03.53 over the Book of Daniel, Daniel 7 there is already 00:16:03.56\00:16:06.53 indicated a time of investigative judgment, 00:16:06.56\00:16:09.60 the books are open, okay? 00:16:09.63\00:16:12.43 And men are judged 00:16:12.47\00:16:14.04 by the things written in those books. 00:16:14.07\00:16:16.14 And so we must remember, what we want blotted out 00:16:16.17\00:16:18.81 is our sin through the blood of Christ. 00:16:18.84\00:16:20.94 Not our name. 00:16:20.98\00:16:22.31 But our name remains in the name of Book of Life. 00:16:22.34\00:16:23.95 Yes. Yeah. 00:16:23.98\00:16:25.41 So, Steven, this time of trouble 00:16:25.45\00:16:27.38 that's referred to herein Daniel 12. 00:16:27.42\00:16:29.08 Is that something 00:16:29.12\00:16:30.62 that the children of God or the saints 00:16:30.65\00:16:33.82 or the righteous should worry about? 00:16:33.86\00:16:35.99 Not at all. 00:16:36.02\00:16:37.63 No because that will be delivered 00:16:37.66\00:16:40.00 since their names are written in the book. 00:16:40.03\00:16:41.70 So though it may seem 00:16:41.73\00:16:43.06 that they're going to be killed, 00:16:43.10\00:16:44.43 but God will deliver them. 00:16:44.47\00:16:46.13 No death after the close of probation 00:16:46.17\00:16:48.74 will cause any benefits. 00:16:48.77\00:16:50.17 So Jesus will come at His Second Advent 00:16:50.21\00:16:53.01 and deliver those whose names are written in the book 00:16:53.04\00:16:55.88 they will be protected. 00:16:55.91\00:16:57.55 Let's move on, Steven, to... 00:16:57.58\00:16:59.48 I like you to comment on verse 2 00:16:59.51\00:17:01.05 where it says that, 00:17:01.08\00:17:02.42 "Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth 00:17:02.45\00:17:04.89 shall awake, some to everlasting life, 00:17:04.92\00:17:07.49 some to shame and everlasting contempt." 00:17:07.52\00:17:10.73 What is this sleep that's referred to here? 00:17:10.76\00:17:13.53 And not everybody accepts this truth, 00:17:13.56\00:17:15.90 but the Bible is clear 00:17:15.93\00:17:17.47 both in the Old and New Testament 00:17:17.50\00:17:19.03 it's mentioned, and I have a study, 00:17:19.07\00:17:20.64 I've checked myself 66 times in the Bible, 00:17:20.67\00:17:24.14 it says that death is asleep. 00:17:24.17\00:17:26.27 And the Old Testament talks about the king 00:17:26.31\00:17:27.81 sleeping with their fathers. 00:17:27.84\00:17:30.31 But if we look at one example, in John 11, 00:17:30.35\00:17:33.72 Jesus speaking of Lazarus, and Lazarus died, 00:17:33.75\00:17:37.55 he says, "I go, that I will wake him out of sleep." 00:17:37.59\00:17:41.56 And His disciples said to him, "Well, Lord, if he sleeps, 00:17:41.59\00:17:44.83 he does well." 00:17:44.86\00:17:46.29 And it says they thought 00:17:46.33\00:17:47.66 that He slept like we do every night. 00:17:47.70\00:17:49.93 But Jesus said plainly, Lazarus is dead. 00:17:49.96\00:17:53.34 And so clearly, we see that Jesus calls the first death 00:17:53.37\00:17:57.44 as sleep which we all awake of. 00:17:57.47\00:18:00.41 And in 1 Corinthians 15:51-52. 00:18:00.44\00:18:04.61 Okay. 00:18:12.39\00:18:13.72 So this is another reference to death 00:18:13.76\00:18:15.09 being like asleep, isn't? 00:18:15.12\00:18:16.46 "Now I say this, brethren, I tell you a mystery. 00:18:16.49\00:18:19.43 We shall not all sleep, but we shall be changed, 00:18:19.46\00:18:22.70 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, 00:18:22.73\00:18:24.80 for at the last trumpet. 00:18:24.83\00:18:26.17 For the trumpet will sound, 00:18:26.20\00:18:28.10 and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, 00:18:28.14\00:18:30.64 and we shall be changed." 00:18:30.67\00:18:33.14 And so therefore we see that sleep, death, 00:18:33.17\00:18:37.21 the first death is just asleep. 00:18:37.25\00:18:39.28 And Jesus said, "If you believe in Me, 00:18:39.31\00:18:40.98 " and this is John 11, again, 00:18:41.02\00:18:43.35 "If those who believe in Me, accept Me, 00:18:43.39\00:18:46.02 shall never die." 00:18:46.05\00:18:47.39 They may sleep in the grave for a time, 00:18:47.42\00:18:49.59 but Jesus will wake them out of the sleep. 00:18:49.62\00:18:51.93 And this is the good news, isn't it? 00:18:51.96\00:18:53.43 Yes, that's right. 00:18:53.46\00:18:55.56 Andrew, in John 5: 00:18:55.60\00:18:57.43 28 and 29. 00:19:01.00\00:19:04.17 Jesus is speaking here and He says, 00:19:04.21\00:19:06.37 "Do not marvel at this, for the hour is coming, 00:19:06.41\00:19:08.74 in which all who are in the graves 00:19:08.78\00:19:11.18 will hear His voice, all in the graves, 00:19:11.21\00:19:13.75 and come forth those who have done good, 00:19:13.78\00:19:15.75 to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, 00:19:15.78\00:19:18.75 to the resurrection of condemnation." 00:19:18.79\00:19:22.29 These are a general resurrection. 00:19:22.32\00:19:24.29 How many future resurrections are there? 00:19:24.33\00:19:26.53 Okay. 00:19:26.56\00:19:27.90 Well, you're right there, Clive. 00:19:27.93\00:19:29.26 Yep. 00:19:29.30\00:19:30.63 And we can see this very clearly 00:19:30.67\00:19:32.00 tied to Daniel 12, isn't it? 00:19:32.03\00:19:33.37 In Daniel 12, 00:19:33.40\00:19:34.74 speaking of two resurrections Jesus 00:19:34.77\00:19:36.10 is speaking of two resurrections here. 00:19:36.14\00:19:37.94 And so I think that's very clear, 00:19:37.97\00:19:39.61 there'll be a resurrection for the righteous, 00:19:39.64\00:19:41.68 there'll be a resurrection for the wicked 00:19:41.71\00:19:43.21 as well as for those that... 00:19:43.24\00:19:45.25 Not at the same time though, are they? 00:19:45.28\00:19:46.85 Not at the same time now. 00:19:46.88\00:19:48.22 And when we get to Revelation 20, 00:19:48.25\00:19:50.15 which is where we'll, 00:19:50.19\00:19:51.82 you know, we find that played out, 00:19:51.85\00:19:53.62 but when we to Revelation 1, 00:19:53.66\00:19:55.69 we also notice something interesting here, 00:19:55.72\00:19:58.93 we notice that there will be a special resurrection 00:19:58.96\00:20:01.63 in Revelation 1:7. 00:20:01.66\00:20:06.07 And it speaking about the Second Coming of Jesus 00:20:06.10\00:20:08.10 is "Behold, He comes with clouds, 00:20:08.14\00:20:10.31 and every eye shall see Him, 00:20:10.34\00:20:12.81 and they also which pierced Him, 00:20:12.84\00:20:16.48 and all kindreds of the earth shall wail 00:20:16.51\00:20:18.65 because of Him." 00:20:18.68\00:20:20.02 So those that crucified Christ, 00:20:20.05\00:20:23.49 the Bible indicates that there will be a special 00:20:23.52\00:20:25.19 resurrection for them also, 00:20:25.22\00:20:27.06 so that they can behold 00:20:27.09\00:20:29.36 the one whom they pierced coming in all His glory. 00:20:29.39\00:20:32.73 And Jesus promised that to them, didn't they? 00:20:32.76\00:20:35.56 Because of the things... 00:20:35.60\00:20:37.83 Because they condemned Him. 00:20:37.87\00:20:40.80 Andrew, I'd like to refer to a note, 00:20:40.84\00:20:43.94 you referred to Hebrews just a little earlier 00:20:43.97\00:20:46.17 and it is a wonderful letter. 00:20:46.21\00:20:49.24 But Hebrews 2 if I may look at that, 00:20:49.28\00:20:52.18 and verses 14 and 15. 00:20:52.21\00:20:55.38 it says, "Inasmuch then as the children have partaken 00:20:55.42\00:21:00.19 of flesh and blood," so we've flesh and blood, 00:21:00.22\00:21:03.29 "He Himself likewise shared in the same, 00:21:03.32\00:21:05.93 " so he became like us, "that through death 00:21:05.96\00:21:09.40 He might destroy him that had the power of death, 00:21:09.43\00:21:12.53 that is, the devil, and," Verse 15, 00:21:12.57\00:21:14.37 "And release those who through fear of death 00:21:14.40\00:21:17.11 were all their lifetime subject bondage." 00:21:17.14\00:21:19.91 Still a bit of fear here is, 00:21:19.94\00:21:21.28 is death something that Christian should fear? 00:21:21.31\00:21:23.78 Yeah, I think death is not a something 00:21:23.81\00:21:25.88 that no one wants to face, reality. 00:21:25.91\00:21:29.05 But the good news is Christ became one like us, 00:21:29.08\00:21:32.29 that He would break the haul that sin and death 00:21:32.32\00:21:36.32 has over us. 00:21:36.36\00:21:37.69 Sin leads to death, righteousness leads to life. 00:21:37.73\00:21:41.03 And so we do find that 00:21:41.06\00:21:44.60 many have given their life 00:21:44.63\00:21:47.47 in the faith of Christ. 00:21:47.50\00:21:48.84 Christianity, even today's a very persecuted religion, 00:21:48.87\00:21:52.77 most persecuted on earth. 00:21:52.81\00:21:55.34 But you don't find that in the mainstream news often. 00:21:55.38\00:21:57.75 But what we do find is a message of hope. 00:21:57.78\00:22:01.08 If we turn to Romans 8. 00:22:01.12\00:22:03.25 Death is an enemy, isn't it? 00:22:03.28\00:22:04.85 It's an enemy. That's right. 00:22:04.89\00:22:06.22 It's an enemy. 00:22:06.25\00:22:07.59 Romans 8:18. 00:22:07.62\00:22:10.23 Christians need not fear because it says here, 00:22:10.26\00:22:14.63 "For I reckon that the sufferings 00:22:14.66\00:22:16.20 of this present time are not worthy 00:22:16.23\00:22:18.87 to compared with the glory 00:22:18.90\00:22:21.00 which shall be revealed in us." 00:22:21.04\00:22:24.01 That's a promise. It is. 00:22:24.04\00:22:25.44 And many have given their life for the faith of Christ 00:22:25.47\00:22:28.24 knowing it's truce and not willing to deny it 00:22:28.28\00:22:31.51 in the face of persecution, 00:22:31.55\00:22:33.45 and they counted as nothing compared 00:22:33.48\00:22:35.28 to the eternal light of glory that awakes them. 00:22:35.32\00:22:38.25 Yep. It's good news. 00:22:38.29\00:22:40.16 Steven, Daniel 12:4 refers 00:22:40.19\00:22:43.43 to Daniel's told to shut up 00:22:43.46\00:22:46.46 the book to seal it until the time of the end. 00:22:46.49\00:22:50.63 One commentator said that sealing 00:22:50.67\00:22:54.04 is not being kept secret 00:22:54.07\00:22:56.54 and sealed until the time is needed, 00:22:56.57\00:22:58.24 is it what's really saying here? 00:22:58.27\00:23:00.94 It basically, it's a prophecy, isn't it? 00:23:00.98\00:23:03.48 That the book would not be understood to its entirety 00:23:03.51\00:23:08.02 until the time of the end, which is 1798. 00:23:08.05\00:23:11.79 And record shows us that during this time 00:23:11.82\00:23:14.79 there was a great interest 00:23:14.82\00:23:16.16 in the Book of Daniel and Revelation. 00:23:16.19\00:23:17.93 Those books, a lot of commentaries 00:23:17.96\00:23:19.59 were written about that time as a great revival interest. 00:23:19.63\00:23:23.73 And one commentator has said that, "Since 1798, 00:23:23.77\00:23:29.44 the Book of Daniel has been unsealed, 00:23:29.47\00:23:31.57 knowledge of the prophecies has increased, 00:23:31.61\00:23:33.74 and many have proclaimed the solemn message 00:23:33.78\00:23:36.34 of the near judgment and cry a Second Advent." 00:23:36.38\00:23:39.48 That was in the Great Controversy, 00:23:39.51\00:23:41.18 page 356. 00:23:41.22\00:23:42.55 That really comes on the back of the reformation 00:23:42.58\00:23:45.75 years of the reformation, 00:23:45.79\00:23:50.03 having the Bible back in the hands of the people, 00:23:50.06\00:23:52.93 and people come into an understanding 00:23:52.96\00:23:54.30 of the precious truce. 00:23:54.33\00:23:55.90 Now in verses 5 00:23:55.93\00:23:57.37 through to the end of Chapter 12 00:23:57.40\00:24:00.04 the final scenes of the book, just read verse 6 here. 00:24:00.07\00:24:05.04 There's a question asked, 00:24:05.07\00:24:06.41 "How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?" 00:24:06.44\00:24:10.41 What's the heavenly replies, Steven? 00:24:10.45\00:24:12.51 It says, "It shall be 00:24:12.55\00:24:14.25 for a time, times, and a half a time. 00:24:14.28\00:24:16.79 When the power of the holy people 00:24:16.82\00:24:18.15 has been completely shattered, 00:24:18.19\00:24:19.52 all these things shall be finished." 00:24:19.55\00:24:21.69 And so a time is a biblical year, 00:24:21.72\00:24:25.99 which is 360 times is two times that 720, 00:24:26.03\00:24:31.07 half a time is 180 this comes to 1,260 years. 00:24:31.10\00:24:34.87 So the time of Papal dominance in the Christian world, 00:24:34.90\00:24:39.37 and the wounding of its head in 1798 00:24:39.41\00:24:43.88 when it was taken into captivity. 00:24:43.91\00:24:46.45 So this means that there was persecution 00:24:46.48\00:24:50.15 until the time in the end during this time. 00:24:50.19\00:24:51.69 Daniel didn't understand everything, did he? 00:24:51.72\00:24:53.89 Andrew, that you see here? 00:24:53.92\00:24:55.52 No, he didn't. He didn't. 00:24:55.56\00:24:56.89 And elsewhere in the Book of Daniel 00:24:56.93\00:25:00.00 in Daniel 8 the very end we find that, 00:25:00.03\00:25:02.06 you know, even he makes a comment 00:25:02.10\00:25:03.63 regarding the visions that he received. 00:25:03.67\00:25:05.63 And he says, you know, none understood it. 00:25:05.67\00:25:09.67 The prophets were... 00:25:09.70\00:25:11.04 And he was sick... People like you and I. 00:25:11.07\00:25:12.41 He was sick certain days, wasn't he? 00:25:12.44\00:25:13.78 That's right. That's right. 00:25:13.81\00:25:15.14 After having it too. 00:25:15.18\00:25:16.51 It took time for them to come to the realization. 00:25:16.54\00:25:18.38 So... 00:25:18.41\00:25:19.75 At verse 8 in chapter 12, "I did not understand." 00:25:19.78\00:25:22.15 Yes. 00:25:22.18\00:25:23.52 And verse 10, says that many of the saints will be purified. 00:25:23.55\00:25:26.09 What does that mean, Andrew? 00:25:26.12\00:25:28.62 Well, let me share with ticks with you. 00:25:28.66\00:25:30.39 Let's go to the Book of Job. 00:25:30.43\00:25:32.43 If there was anyone who was tried... 00:25:32.46\00:25:35.80 Nothing purifies you greater than persecution. 00:25:35.83\00:25:40.44 Job 23. 00:25:40.47\00:25:42.57 I'd like us to read verse 10. 00:25:42.60\00:25:46.07 Job 23:10. 00:25:46.11\00:25:48.01 And listen what Job says here, 00:25:48.04\00:25:50.85 "But He knows the way that I take, 00:25:50.88\00:25:53.62 when He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold." 00:25:53.65\00:25:57.29 And so God allows us to go through trials, 00:25:57.32\00:26:01.52 He allows us to go through trials, 00:26:01.56\00:26:03.56 and what is His intention in doing that? 00:26:03.59\00:26:06.46 To purify us. 00:26:06.49\00:26:07.83 To purify. What does that mean? 00:26:07.86\00:26:09.20 To prepare us for heaven. 00:26:09.23\00:26:10.57 So that He could make manifest the faith of Jesus in us, 00:26:10.60\00:26:14.07 that same faith that Christ had. 00:26:14.10\00:26:15.67 Yeah. 00:26:15.70\00:26:17.04 That's the faith that God is looking for in us. 00:26:17.07\00:26:18.41 As usual, we're running out of time. 00:26:18.44\00:26:20.21 This is never enough time to discuss things of scripture. 00:26:20.24\00:26:22.74 But I'd like to look at verse 13. 00:26:22.78\00:26:25.45 And get your comments on that, Steven, if you would. 00:26:25.48\00:26:28.28 Verse 13. 00:26:28.32\00:26:29.65 It says that, "But go your way till the time of the end. 00:26:29.68\00:26:33.36 For you shall rest, and you shall rise 00:26:33.39\00:26:35.29 to your inheritance at the end of the days." 00:26:35.32\00:26:36.99 And as our life which is away, 00:26:37.03\00:26:38.59 we see that we may also have to sleep as Daniel did. 00:26:38.63\00:26:41.83 But God says, but find pleasure in the fact 00:26:41.86\00:26:47.00 that you will stay in your lot until Jesus comes again, 00:26:47.04\00:26:50.81 and you'll be raised at the Second Advent. 00:26:50.84\00:26:53.04 It was a great message 00:26:53.07\00:26:54.51 of reassurance for Daniel, wasn't it? 00:26:54.54\00:26:56.38 Yes. 00:26:56.41\00:26:57.75 And through him, the message of reassurance rest 00:26:57.78\00:27:00.62 who're reading the prophecies of Daniel today. 00:27:00.65\00:27:03.79 Well, it's been a pleasure discussing 00:27:03.82\00:27:06.09 this wonderful final chapter. 00:27:06.12\00:27:08.22 So thank you, Steven and Andrew, 00:27:08.26\00:27:10.79 for your thoughts. 00:27:10.83\00:27:12.29 We hope you have been blessed 00:27:12.33\00:27:13.66 by this series on the Book of Daniel. 00:27:13.70\00:27:16.80 We've only scraped the surface 00:27:16.83\00:27:18.50 as it were of the time available, 00:27:18.53\00:27:20.84 but I encourage you to keep studying this book 00:27:20.87\00:27:23.51 and the Book of Revelation too. 00:27:23.54\00:27:26.24 We're glad you joined us today on Let God Speak. 00:27:26.27\00:27:29.31 Remember, all past programs, 00:27:29.34\00:27:31.18 plus teacher's notes are available on our website 00:27:31.21\00:27:34.42 3abnaustralia.org.au, email us as you wish 00:27:34.45\00:27:39.65 and lgs@3abnaustralia.org.au. 00:27:39.69\00:27:44.43 Do join us again next time. 00:27:44.46\00:27:45.83
