Hello, I'm Mike Browning. 00:00:01.36\00:00:02.70 Welcome to Let God Speak. 00:00:02.73\00:00:04.23 Today, we'll be studying Daniel Chapter 11. 00:00:04.27\00:00:06.90 This chapter records a very challenging prophecy 00:00:06.94\00:00:09.40 with a lot of detail. 00:00:09.44\00:00:11.17 Today, we'll highlight the main points 00:00:11.21\00:00:13.64 and put this prophecy into perspective for you. 00:00:13.68\00:00:16.44 So open your Bibles with us to Daniel Chapter 11. 00:00:16.48\00:00:19.31 On our panel today, 00:00:45.17\00:00:46.51 we have David Currie and Colin Hein and, gentlemen, 00:00:46.54\00:00:48.68 we are grateful that 00:00:48.71\00:00:50.05 you came to share with us today. 00:00:50.08\00:00:51.75 Before we open the Scripture, 00:00:51.78\00:00:53.11 however, let us join together in prayer. 00:00:53.15\00:00:56.58 Father in heaven, 00:00:56.62\00:00:58.02 today as we opened the Scripture 00:00:58.05\00:00:59.69 and study its message, 00:00:59.72\00:01:01.52 now Your Holy Spirit direct and guide us please, 00:01:01.56\00:01:04.36 we pray in Jesus' name. 00:01:04.39\00:01:06.26 Amen. Amen. 00:01:06.29\00:01:08.70 Now in our past programs, folks, we've discovered 00:01:08.73\00:01:11.90 an important principle 00:01:11.93\00:01:13.27 when we study the prophetic portions 00:01:13.30\00:01:15.37 of the Bible like Daniel 00:01:15.40\00:01:16.74 and Revelation and, Colin, we've talked about this. 00:01:16.77\00:01:19.47 It's a simple principle of repetition 00:01:19.51\00:01:21.04 and enlargement. 00:01:21.08\00:01:22.41 You look at Daniel Chapter 2, you get some information, 00:01:22.44\00:01:24.95 Daniel Chapter 7, you get more information, 00:01:24.98\00:01:27.02 and Daniel 8 even more and so on and 11 have signs 00:01:27.05\00:01:30.22 that's repeat and enlarge. 00:01:30.25\00:01:31.75 Okay, so it's the same run of history, basically, 00:01:31.79\00:01:33.99 but with extra information put in and that's very good. 00:01:34.02\00:01:38.79 Let's look at some examples of that 00:01:38.83\00:01:40.16 'cause there are plenty of examples in Daniel, 00:01:40.20\00:01:41.96 a lot of this... 00:01:42.00\00:01:43.33 Well, look, speaking of this little horn power 00:01:43.37\00:01:45.80 or this Antichrist power in Daniel 7:25. 00:01:45.83\00:01:49.34 You get a few verses here, maybe four or five verses 00:01:49.37\00:01:51.81 that speak about this little horn 00:01:51.84\00:01:53.98 or Antichrist power. 00:01:54.01\00:01:55.34 Yeah. 00:01:55.38\00:01:56.71 I got in Daniel 8, 00:01:56.75\00:01:58.08 you've got about eight references 00:01:58.11\00:01:59.45 or eight verses 00:01:59.48\00:02:00.82 that deal with the same thing, particularly verses 24 and 25. 00:02:00.85\00:02:03.65 Which is interesting, isn't it? 00:02:03.69\00:02:05.02 So again, you've got more information this time. 00:02:05.05\00:02:07.29 And then when we come to Daniel 11, 00:02:07.32\00:02:09.26 which is the chapters perhaps we're looking at today, 00:02:09.29\00:02:13.03 which chapter incidentally continues into Chapter 12, 00:02:13.06\00:02:15.70 although we're only dealing with Chapter 11 today, 00:02:15.73\00:02:18.50 but there you've got some 20 odd verses 00:02:18.53\00:02:20.60 dealing with the Antichrist power. 00:02:20.64\00:02:21.97 So, in every chapter, there's just more information, 00:02:22.00\00:02:25.01 and it's definitely enlarged on. 00:02:25.04\00:02:26.81 So thank you for that. 00:02:26.84\00:02:28.61 There are other consistent principles 00:02:28.64\00:02:31.21 that help us to understand the Book of Daniel, David, too. 00:02:31.25\00:02:34.05 Yes, his prophecy 00:02:34.08\00:02:36.99 seems to start with a timescale. 00:02:37.02\00:02:39.49 For instance, this one starts 00:02:39.52\00:02:40.86 with the Medo-Persian Empire coming in, 00:02:40.89\00:02:44.13 and it ends with the destruction 00:02:44.16\00:02:46.33 of the Antichrist. 00:02:46.36\00:02:47.70 So the same principle applies 00:02:47.73\00:02:49.23 to several of these chapters of Daniel. 00:02:49.26\00:02:51.23 And it's just amazing how Daniel is so consistent. 00:02:51.27\00:02:55.64 And he starts and each of those prophecy 00:02:55.67\00:02:57.54 starts with the time in which Daniel was living. 00:02:57.57\00:03:01.44 And go through to the end of time. 00:03:01.48\00:03:02.81 It is interesting. 00:03:02.84\00:03:04.18 So they all do that, which is really helpful. 00:03:04.21\00:03:06.28 Well, let's begin our study of Daniel 11, people. 00:03:06.31\00:03:09.98 The Angel Gabriel, who speaks with Daniel in 00:03:10.02\00:03:13.15 and that's recorded in Chapter 10, 00:03:13.19\00:03:15.02 now continues again in Daniel 11:2 and 3. 00:03:15.06\00:03:19.16 And I'd like to read 11:2 and 3, 00:03:19.19\00:03:21.80 if you'd like to join us in your Bibles, 00:03:21.83\00:03:24.37 Daniel 11:2 and 3, verse 1 simply says, 00:03:24.40\00:03:27.94 "It was in the first year of Darius the Mede," 00:03:27.97\00:03:30.37 Medes and the Persians 00:03:30.41\00:03:31.74 had conquered Babylon by this time, 00:03:31.77\00:03:33.74 and Daniel had carried over into the new administration. 00:03:33.78\00:03:36.78 And verse 2 says, 00:03:36.81\00:03:38.15 "Now I will tell you the truth: Behold, 00:03:38.18\00:03:40.72 three more kings will arise in Persia," 00:03:40.75\00:03:43.18 this is Daniel in vision, 00:03:43.22\00:03:44.95 "the fourth shall be far richer than them all, 00:03:44.99\00:03:48.19 by his strength through his riches, 00:03:48.22\00:03:49.92 he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece. 00:03:49.96\00:03:53.03 Then a mighty king shall arise 00:03:53.06\00:03:54.80 who shall rule with great dominion, 00:03:54.83\00:03:57.37 and do according to His will." 00:03:57.40\00:03:59.00 So what's the basic message here, Colin? 00:03:59.03\00:04:01.54 So it is, the angel's giving 00:04:01.57\00:04:03.07 a history of events of the kings of Persia, 00:04:03.10\00:04:05.77 the future kings of Persia. 00:04:05.81\00:04:07.48 And then he moves quickly into the king of Greece, 00:04:07.51\00:04:10.35 the first king of Greece, which is Alexander the Great 00:04:10.38\00:04:12.38 and historians have looked back in history 00:04:12.41\00:04:14.38 and will advise this. 00:04:14.42\00:04:16.38 Yeah. Okay. Thank you for that. 00:04:16.42\00:04:17.75 Yeah. It's very interesting. 00:04:17.79\00:04:19.12 And then as we go into Daniel 11, 00:04:19.15\00:04:20.56 still in 11th Chapter, 11:4 now, it says, 00:04:20.59\00:04:23.66 "When he has arisen... 00:04:23.69\00:04:25.39 This is the first king of Greece. 00:04:25.43\00:04:27.73 "When he has arisen, his kingdom shall be broken up 00:04:27.76\00:04:30.23 and divided toward the four winds of heaven, 00:04:30.27\00:04:33.17 but not among his posterity nor according to His dominion 00:04:33.20\00:04:36.87 with which he ruled, 00:04:36.91\00:04:38.24 for his kingdom shall be uprooted, 00:04:38.27\00:04:39.64 even for others besides these." 00:04:39.67\00:04:41.21 And the main point being here, that when this king, 00:04:41.24\00:04:45.08 the first king of Persia, sorry, of Greece, 00:04:45.11\00:04:47.52 let me make that clear, 00:04:47.55\00:04:49.15 who was Alexander the Great when he dies, it says, 00:04:49.18\00:04:51.92 "The kingdom will be divided up into four. 00:04:51.95\00:04:54.59 This is really interesting. 00:04:54.62\00:04:55.96 So summarize that for us all, David, if you can? 00:04:55.99\00:04:59.19 Yes, it's really a parallel to Daniel 8, as we said before, 00:04:59.23\00:05:02.40 there's repetition that comes in. 00:05:02.43\00:05:05.27 And Daniel 8 says, 00:05:05.30\00:05:06.63 "Therefore the male goat grew very great, 00:05:06.67\00:05:09.77 but when it became strong, the large horn was broken, 00:05:09.80\00:05:13.01 and in place of it, four notable ones came up 00:05:13.04\00:05:16.24 toward the four winds of heaven." 00:05:16.28\00:05:18.21 So when you come back to Daniel 11, you basically, 00:05:18.25\00:05:20.88 you got this repetition coming. 00:05:20.92\00:05:22.25 You can see the parenthesis. 00:05:22.28\00:05:23.62 This is clearly talking about Alexander the Great. 00:05:23.65\00:05:26.19 It was the Great General that led the Greece 00:05:26.22\00:05:28.46 into such power at that time. 00:05:28.49\00:05:30.33 Okay, thank you for that. 00:05:30.36\00:05:31.86 Very good. 00:05:31.89\00:05:33.23 And, of course, it gives us a key to lock in there. 00:05:33.26\00:05:35.76 Then moving on to Chapter 11, 00:05:35.80\00:05:37.77 back to Chapter 11 now in verse 5, it says this, 00:05:37.80\00:05:41.20 "The king of the South shall become strong." 00:05:41.24\00:05:44.11 Now remember, there were four divisions 00:05:44.14\00:05:45.74 now in the Grecian Empire and the one in the south 00:05:45.77\00:05:47.98 shall become strong, as well as one of his princes, 00:05:48.01\00:05:51.65 and he shall gain power over him and have dominion. 00:05:51.68\00:05:54.18 His dominion shall be a great dominion." 00:05:54.22\00:05:56.82 In verse 6, 00:05:56.85\00:05:58.19 "At the end of some years they shall join forces, 00:05:58.22\00:06:00.19 for the daughter of the king of the South 00:06:00.22\00:06:02.79 shall go to the king of the North 00:06:02.82\00:06:04.53 to make an agreement, 00:06:04.56\00:06:06.29 but she shall not retain the power of her authority." 00:06:06.33\00:06:08.60 And so the main points are that 00:06:08.63\00:06:09.96 we have a king of the North being focused on, 00:06:10.00\00:06:11.83 and the king of the South as well. 00:06:11.87\00:06:14.27 So who are these kings? 00:06:14.30\00:06:15.64 So these two kings became more powerful than the others, 00:06:15.67\00:06:18.57 and you've got following Alexander's death. 00:06:18.61\00:06:21.14 And you've got Seleucid, which is in Syria, 00:06:21.18\00:06:23.71 which is the north part of in relation to Israel. 00:06:23.75\00:06:26.51 And you've got Ptolemy, 00:06:26.55\00:06:28.28 which is Egypt in the southern part of. 00:06:28.32\00:06:30.39 So he's king of the North. He's the king of the South. 00:06:30.42\00:06:32.89 Yeah, okay. And I thank you for that. 00:06:32.92\00:06:35.59 Now, there's a lot of historical detail here. 00:06:35.62\00:06:38.09 And some people reading will say, 00:06:38.13\00:06:39.46 Well, why is all this? 00:06:39.49\00:06:40.83 Why is there all this historical detail? 00:06:40.86\00:06:42.70 What relevance does it have? David, what does it have? 00:06:42.73\00:06:45.47 Well, you have the kings in the North and the South. 00:06:45.50\00:06:48.17 And there's a counterplay and interplay here. 00:06:48.20\00:06:51.27 And really, as the meat in the sandwich, 00:06:51.31\00:06:54.31 as we might say colloquially, hearing draws people, 00:06:54.34\00:06:57.88 and God's people are affected. 00:06:57.91\00:07:00.05 Every time Daniel writes, 00:07:00.08\00:07:02.28 he's really writing about God's people 00:07:02.32\00:07:04.02 and how they're affected and so on. 00:07:04.05\00:07:05.59 And this is certainly seen here. 00:07:05.62\00:07:07.39 And the message is that God knows their trials, 00:07:07.42\00:07:10.16 and will guide them through. 00:07:10.19\00:07:11.53 That's a great message, isn't it at that time? 00:07:11.56\00:07:13.50 And Daniel 11:14, it says, "Now in those times, 00:07:13.53\00:07:18.23 many shall rise up against the king of the South. 00:07:18.27\00:07:21.34 Also violent men, some say robbers, 00:07:21.37\00:07:24.64 of your people shall exalt themselves 00:07:24.67\00:07:26.57 in fulfillment of the vision, but they shall fall." 00:07:26.61\00:07:30.71 They'll come to their end. 00:07:30.75\00:07:32.08 They're against God's people, but they'll come to their end. 00:07:32.11\00:07:34.58 Which is a wonderful reassurance 00:07:34.62\00:07:35.95 for the people there in Israel, 00:07:35.98\00:07:37.52 as you say the meat in the sandwich 00:07:37.55\00:07:39.05 is a good explanation for that. 00:07:39.09\00:07:40.46 Okay, thanks for that. 00:07:40.49\00:07:42.42 In addition to that, of course, we see the sovereignty of God, 00:07:42.46\00:07:45.99 His hand over the movements of the nations 00:07:46.03\00:07:48.00 which may appear to be all totally independent 00:07:48.03\00:07:50.57 of anything that God might be doing. 00:07:50.60\00:07:52.13 He says, "No, I know what's going on." 00:07:52.17\00:07:54.34 And that's very important for the people of God. 00:07:54.37\00:07:56.54 Okay, let's have a look at Chapter 11 00:07:56.57\00:07:58.21 still in verse 16, this time. 00:07:58.24\00:08:00.88 Now, folks, we can't in the time 00:08:00.91\00:08:02.38 that we have not be able to go through 00:08:02.41\00:08:03.75 every single verse in this chapter, 00:08:03.78\00:08:05.51 we're picking the main points out, 00:08:05.55\00:08:07.02 so that you get an idea of where it's going. 00:08:07.05\00:08:09.25 11:16, "He who comes against him 00:08:09.28\00:08:12.69 shall do according to his own will, 00:08:12.72\00:08:14.92 no one shall stand against him. 00:08:14.96\00:08:17.06 He shall stand in the Glorious Land 00:08:17.09\00:08:19.29 with destruction in his power." 00:08:19.33\00:08:21.80 This is a fascinating statement. 00:08:21.83\00:08:23.73 So what power are we referring to here? 00:08:23.77\00:08:25.83 Well, this is a clear transition 00:08:25.87\00:08:27.87 from the Greek kings to pagan Rome, 00:08:27.90\00:08:30.91 which is the next empire. 00:08:30.94\00:08:32.34 And again, you have to go back to Daniel 2 and 7 and 8, 00:08:32.37\00:08:35.78 where it talks about who these powers are. 00:08:35.81\00:08:38.28 And so Daniel 11 is just a repetition 00:08:38.31\00:08:39.71 of the same powers, which is now moving 00:08:39.75\00:08:42.75 to the Greek kings to pagan Rome, 00:08:42.78\00:08:44.65 and the world influence they have. 00:08:44.69\00:08:46.86 All right. Now, thank you for that. 00:08:46.89\00:08:48.22 That's very important. 00:08:48.26\00:08:49.59 And then I'm going to slip down now to 11:20. 00:08:49.62\00:08:53.40 The next point of significance is that, 00:08:53.43\00:08:55.86 "They shall arise in his place one 00:08:55.90\00:08:57.63 who imposes taxes on the glorious kingdom, 00:08:57.67\00:09:02.37 but within a few days he shall be destroyed, 00:09:02.40\00:09:04.61 but not in anger or in battle." 00:09:04.64\00:09:06.47 That was interesting too in Daniel. 00:09:06.51\00:09:08.68 So, David, who is this referring to? 00:09:08.71\00:09:11.51 He just wants to raise his taxes. 00:09:11.55\00:09:13.21 This is one who imposes taxes 00:09:13.25\00:09:14.88 which is obviously Augustus Caesar. 00:09:14.92\00:09:17.19 As Colin mentioned, we move from one, 00:09:17.22\00:09:19.45 the Greeks to the pagan Roman Empire. 00:09:19.49\00:09:21.72 And here is Augustus, probably from about 00:09:21.76\00:09:24.73 the 14th year after Christ to the 37th year. 00:09:24.76\00:09:30.67 And this was Caesar Augustus. 00:09:30.70\00:09:35.64 It says, he died of natural reasons there. 00:09:35.67\00:09:38.44 He didn't die in battle, 00:09:38.47\00:09:39.81 he didn't die in some other place. 00:09:39.84\00:09:41.64 And this is exactly how he died. 00:09:41.68\00:09:43.24 This is one Caesar who wasn't killed in battle 00:09:43.28\00:09:46.38 or by subterfuge as many have recognized. 00:09:46.41\00:09:51.12 And this Caesar was the Caesar 00:09:51.15\00:09:54.82 who created a census in taxes at the time of Christ's birth. 00:09:54.86\00:09:58.96 That gives us a pretty good picture 00:09:58.99\00:10:00.96 of just one, this is indeed. 00:10:01.00\00:10:03.16 Yeah. 00:10:03.20\00:10:04.53 And now that's true and, 00:10:04.57\00:10:05.90 in fact, it's an important key to help us to, 00:10:05.93\00:10:09.74 if you like, check on how we're going 00:10:09.77\00:10:11.71 with our interpretation of that prophecy because, 00:10:11.74\00:10:15.58 as we all know, it was because of the census 00:10:15.61\00:10:18.95 for taxation purposes that caused Mary and Joseph 00:10:18.98\00:10:23.35 to travel that night of Jesus' birth 00:10:23.39\00:10:25.55 to Bethlehem from Nazareth. 00:10:25.59\00:10:26.92 So it's very important. 00:10:26.96\00:10:28.29 In fact, I'm just going to briefly read that 00:10:28.32\00:10:29.92 in Luke Chapter 2 and what verse is that? 00:10:29.96\00:10:33.09 Verse 1... To 4. 00:10:33.13\00:10:34.70 To 4, thank you. 00:10:34.73\00:10:36.06 Luke 2:1-4, which says, 00:10:36.10\00:10:37.50 "It came to pass in those days that a decree went out 00:10:37.53\00:10:39.80 from the Caesar Augustus," 00:10:39.83\00:10:41.24 we have already mentioned his name, 00:10:41.27\00:10:42.84 "that all the world should be registered. 00:10:42.87\00:10:45.17 This census first took place 00:10:45.21\00:10:46.54 while Quirinius was governing Syria. 00:10:46.57\00:10:49.18 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city, 00:10:49.21\00:10:52.61 and Quirinius, for Joseph also went up from Galilee, 00:10:52.65\00:10:56.45 out of the city of Nazareth, 00:10:56.48\00:10:57.82 into Judea, to the city of David, 00:10:57.85\00:10:59.85 which is called Bethlehem." 00:10:59.89\00:11:01.52 And that's, and on that night 00:11:01.56\00:11:03.22 when they arrived, Jesus birth took place. 00:11:03.26\00:11:06.36 So this was a very important thing. 00:11:06.39\00:11:08.50 And again, it locks us in, in our understanding, 00:11:08.53\00:11:11.43 we realize we're on the right track now, 00:11:11.47\00:11:13.30 identifying pagan Rome here with this power 00:11:13.34\00:11:17.17 in Daniel Chapter 11. 00:11:17.21\00:11:20.01 And this becomes more important as we go on, as you'll see. 00:11:20.04\00:11:23.01 Okay, now 11:21. I want to read that. 00:11:23.04\00:11:26.31 So going back to Daniel 11:21. 00:11:26.35\00:11:30.92 After this is talking about, after Caesar Augustus, 00:11:30.95\00:11:33.39 "In his place, shall arise a vile person," 00:11:33.42\00:11:36.59 it says, "to him, they will not give the honor of royalty, 00:11:36.62\00:11:40.00 but he shall come in peaceably 00:11:40.03\00:11:42.46 and seize the kingdom by intrigue." 00:11:42.50\00:11:45.10 Now, this is interesting. 00:11:45.13\00:11:46.57 So we need to try and identify who is this vile person? 00:11:46.60\00:11:50.34 Well, Augustus when he died, he was succeeded 00:11:50.37\00:11:53.17 by his adopted son which is Tiberius 00:11:53.21\00:11:55.18 and he was known to be 00:11:55.21\00:11:56.54 eccentric and vile and he did it 00:11:56.58\00:11:58.51 by intrigued the way he came into. 00:11:58.55\00:12:00.48 Yeah, looking at the history of Rome and you say, 00:12:00.52\00:12:02.58 the way he came to power was by intrigue. 00:12:02.62\00:12:05.35 Okay. All right. Thanks for that. 00:12:05.39\00:12:07.19 And moving on to the next verse, 00:12:07.22\00:12:10.19 Daniel 11:22, there's more information 00:12:10.23\00:12:12.59 here we need to look at. 00:12:12.63\00:12:14.26 "With the force of a flood they shall be swept away 00:12:14.30\00:12:16.67 from before him and be broken, 00:12:16.70\00:12:18.60 and also the prince of the covenant." 00:12:18.63\00:12:20.64 Now, this is very interesting here. 00:12:20.67\00:12:23.14 David, who is this prince of the covenant 00:12:23.17\00:12:25.04 that we're referring to? 00:12:25.07\00:12:26.41 This is referring to Jesus Christ. 00:12:26.44\00:12:28.11 And it's very interesting 00:12:28.14\00:12:30.05 that this verse should bring this out 00:12:30.08\00:12:31.81 at this particular time 00:12:31.85\00:12:33.18 because it was during Nero's time 00:12:33.21\00:12:36.79 that Jesus and then later Paul died. 00:12:36.82\00:12:40.99 And he was a vile person, just as it says. 00:12:41.02\00:12:43.26 Tiberius is the person 00:12:43.29\00:12:44.89 we're talking about here, not Nero. 00:12:44.93\00:12:46.26 Well, I thank you for that. 00:12:46.29\00:12:48.16 And just, I just notice 00:12:48.20\00:12:50.17 also back here in 9:25. 00:12:50.20\00:12:56.00 There's a reference to Jesus as the prince here, 00:12:56.04\00:12:58.57 and I think it's worth bearing 00:12:58.61\00:12:59.94 that in mind and touching on 9:25. 00:12:59.97\00:13:02.91 "Know therefore and understand, 00:13:02.94\00:13:04.28 that from the going forth of the command 00:13:04.31\00:13:06.85 to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince." 00:13:06.88\00:13:10.05 And it gives a date to look forward to that. 00:13:10.09\00:13:13.62 Daniel 9:25 therefore 00:13:13.66\00:13:15.56 becomes an important connection here, 00:13:15.59\00:13:17.63 because once again, He's called the prince. 00:13:17.66\00:13:19.63 What's plays in it, where you have Rome 00:13:19.66\00:13:21.66 who were the emperors, 00:13:21.70\00:13:23.03 and then it brings in the main character, 00:13:23.06\00:13:24.67 which is Jesus the Messiah in their time, 00:13:24.70\00:13:27.27 which was at the time of Tiberius 00:13:27.30\00:13:28.64 when Jesus was crucified. 00:13:28.67\00:13:30.87 Okay, okay. Thank you for that. 00:13:30.91\00:13:33.48 Now, we're still in Daniel 11:29, 00:13:33.51\00:13:39.21 which says this," At the appointed time, 00:13:39.25\00:13:43.32 he shall return and go toward the south, 00:13:43.35\00:13:45.85 but it shall not be like the former or the latter." 00:13:45.89\00:13:49.32 And we'll come back to that comment, 00:13:49.36\00:13:51.46 because that's an important one. 00:13:51.49\00:13:53.80 And, Colin, who we're talking about here? 00:13:53.83\00:13:56.90 Well, following that repeat and enlarge from, you know, 00:13:56.93\00:13:59.23 Daniel Chapter 2, 7, 8 and 9, 00:13:59.27\00:14:02.04 from Roman Empire or you have 00:14:02.07\00:14:05.14 what's called the pagan Rome 00:14:05.17\00:14:07.41 becomes religious, and unites the state 00:14:07.44\00:14:10.75 and becomes papal phase or papal Rome. 00:14:10.78\00:14:13.21 So it's not like the former or the latter? 00:14:13.25\00:14:14.98 It's not the former or latter, but it's a continual watch, 00:14:15.02\00:14:17.09 if you follow history that was where the power 00:14:17.12\00:14:18.85 that came out of there which was papal Rome. 00:14:18.89\00:14:22.09 We moved from pagan Rome to papal Rome. 00:14:22.12\00:14:23.79 All right, thank you for that. 00:14:23.83\00:14:25.66 So what does this power do, David? 00:14:25.69\00:14:28.20 Well, it says it's in enraged against God's covenant. 00:14:28.23\00:14:32.00 And this is the covenant that has come right 00:14:32.03\00:14:33.90 from the time of Adam right through 00:14:33.94\00:14:36.34 and it tries to break that, why? 00:14:36.37\00:14:38.57 Because it deals with salvation. 00:14:38.61\00:14:40.61 And one thing that the devil tries to do 00:14:40.64\00:14:43.18 with these forces is to come against the covenant 00:14:43.21\00:14:46.82 that God made with His people that there would be salvation, 00:14:46.85\00:14:49.88 and that salvation is free. 00:14:49.92\00:14:51.85 And then furthermore, 00:14:51.89\00:14:53.22 he defiles the sanctuary and takes away the daily. 00:14:53.25\00:14:56.02 This goes back to Daniel 8, 00:14:56.06\00:14:58.16 and the same power doing the same thing, 00:14:58.19\00:15:00.60 taking away the daily. 00:15:00.63\00:15:02.13 And this is an attack against Christ's ministry 00:15:02.16\00:15:04.50 and the heavenly sanctuary. 00:15:04.53\00:15:06.50 There's no way that Satan 00:15:06.53\00:15:07.87 wants people to rejoice in the sanctuary truth. 00:15:07.90\00:15:09.87 No, it's the central feature of our, 00:15:09.90\00:15:13.71 of the faith in the Bible. 00:15:13.74\00:15:15.98 I notice in verse 31, Chapter 11 and so. 00:15:16.01\00:15:19.01 It talks about taking away the daily, 00:15:19.05\00:15:21.02 it says, "Forces shall be mustered by him, 00:15:21.05\00:15:23.89 they shall defile the sanctuary fortress, 00:15:23.92\00:15:26.29 then they shall take away the daily sacrifices 00:15:26.32\00:15:29.02 and place there the abomination of desolation." 00:15:29.06\00:15:31.53 So it's definitely a religious power 00:15:31.56\00:15:34.10 that we're talking about here... 00:15:34.13\00:15:35.46 Yes, absolutely. That does these things. 00:15:35.50\00:15:38.40 And you've mentioned Daniel 8:11, 00:15:38.43\00:15:40.94 I just want to read that 00:15:40.97\00:15:42.30 because it's very pertinent 00:15:42.34\00:15:44.87 that we see the connection 00:15:44.91\00:15:46.24 between these various prophecies. 00:15:46.27\00:15:48.18 Daniel 8:11 says, "He even exalted himself," 00:15:48.21\00:15:51.61 same power that we've been talking about, 00:15:51.65\00:15:53.85 "exalted himself as high as the prince of the host, 00:15:53.88\00:15:57.42 and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away 00:15:57.45\00:16:00.42 and the place of His sanctuary was cast down." 00:16:00.46\00:16:02.62 And, of course, it's in the sanctuary 00:16:02.66\00:16:04.23 that God works for our salvation 00:16:04.26\00:16:06.13 and the forgiveness of our sins. 00:16:06.16\00:16:08.16 And that's another subject for another day. 00:16:08.20\00:16:11.27 All right, moving on, 00:16:11.30\00:16:13.23 we've come across an interesting statement 00:16:13.27\00:16:15.14 here in verse, 11:31, 00:16:15.17\00:16:17.94 the abomination of desolation. 00:16:17.97\00:16:21.24 What do you think about that title? 00:16:21.28\00:16:22.61 It's an interesting one. 00:16:22.64\00:16:23.98 Well, there's two words there, isn't it? 00:16:24.01\00:16:25.35 There's abomination and desolation 00:16:25.38\00:16:26.72 and usually what you have is an abomination 00:16:26.75\00:16:28.08 is followed by desolation. 00:16:28.12\00:16:29.68 So when we think of abomination, 00:16:29.72\00:16:31.72 now, great examples in Ezekiel 8:16, 00:16:31.75\00:16:34.82 where God is saying, 00:16:34.86\00:16:36.73 "Listen, look at these abominations 00:16:36.76\00:16:38.23 that My people are doing." 00:16:38.26\00:16:40.23 And He saves the worst a last. 00:16:40.26\00:16:42.26 He says, "You know what the worst abomination is? 00:16:42.30\00:16:44.10 The worst abomination is that they're worshipping the sun." 00:16:44.13\00:16:48.17 They're worshipping the sun. 00:16:48.20\00:16:49.54 He says, "That's the worst, worst abomination." 00:16:49.57\00:16:52.34 And so, when you look back at Daniel 9:26 and 27, 00:16:52.37\00:16:57.28 there is this, again, 00:16:57.31\00:16:59.78 Jesus is talking back in His day. 00:16:59.81\00:17:03.08 He's referencing back to Daniel Chapter 9 00:17:03.12\00:17:05.52 when He says about the abomination 00:17:05.55\00:17:07.36 and He's talking about when the nation, 00:17:07.39\00:17:09.72 Rome would surround Israel or Jerusalem, 00:17:09.76\00:17:13.09 okay, with these armies. 00:17:13.13\00:17:14.76 And you can read that in Matthew Chapter 24, 00:17:14.80\00:17:17.23 also in Mark 13:14, and Luke 21:20. 00:17:17.27\00:17:20.47 And He's saying, when you see this abomination, 00:17:20.50\00:17:22.84 and what was the abomination here speaking about?" 00:17:22.87\00:17:24.94 Well, the Rome had a standard of an eagle. 00:17:24.97\00:17:29.44 Now this eagle standard 00:17:29.48\00:17:30.81 was in honor of the sun god Mithra, 00:17:30.85\00:17:32.78 okay, and it's a God that Pompeii adopted 00:17:32.81\00:17:34.55 during the military campaign in Asia. 00:17:34.58\00:17:36.12 So before that, they had many different symbols, 00:17:36.15\00:17:38.19 but the eagle was, and it had a... 00:17:38.22\00:17:40.39 It was worshipping the sun so... 00:17:40.42\00:17:42.16 Okay, it's interesting. 00:17:42.19\00:17:43.53 And interesting down the road, you have this same power 00:17:43.56\00:17:47.13 that thinks to change God's times and laws 00:17:47.16\00:17:49.43 and brings in sun day worship, so the day of the sun. 00:17:49.46\00:17:53.54 So you can see this play 00:17:53.57\00:17:54.90 of sun worship playing right through. 00:17:54.94\00:17:56.67 From right through, it's amazing, isn't it? 00:17:56.71\00:17:58.04 Yeah. 00:17:58.07\00:17:59.41 So this does have an effect on God's people, David? 00:17:59.44\00:18:02.24 Yes. 00:18:02.28\00:18:04.15 And 35 it says, 00:18:04.18\00:18:05.51 "Some of those understanding shall fall." 00:18:05.55\00:18:07.92 And really when we go back 00:18:07.95\00:18:09.28 to Daniel 7:26 and 27, 00:18:09.32\00:18:14.66 you find this power is really coming in, 00:18:14.69\00:18:17.89 persecuting God's people. 00:18:17.93\00:18:19.79 In verse 25, 00:18:19.83\00:18:21.16 "He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, 00:18:21.20\00:18:23.10 shall persecute the saints of the Most High 00:18:23.13\00:18:25.83 and shall intend to change times and laws," 00:18:25.87\00:18:28.60 this which Colin has been dealing with. 00:18:28.64\00:18:30.81 And so this power certainly going against God's people, 00:18:30.84\00:18:34.04 persecuting them. 00:18:34.08\00:18:35.41 Yeah, yeah. 00:18:35.44\00:18:36.78 And finally, what does this power do though? 00:18:36.81\00:18:38.18 Colin, this is important. 00:18:38.21\00:18:39.61 Well, he magnifies himself, it says in Daniel 11:36. 00:18:39.65\00:18:44.35 And then it's referring back to, 00:18:44.39\00:18:45.72 you compare to Daniel 7:23, 00:18:45.75\00:18:47.92 we were just speaking about then. 00:18:47.96\00:18:49.62 And when you read that in Daniel 7:23, 00:18:49.66\00:18:52.96 it says, first thing, 00:18:52.99\00:18:54.33 "He speaks pompous words against the Most High." 00:18:54.36\00:18:56.00 So much blasphemy, 00:18:56.03\00:18:57.43 and blasphemy is the ability to forgive sins, 00:18:57.47\00:19:00.20 to say that your God is blasphemy. 00:19:00.24\00:19:02.44 And so this power would say, he's God on earth. 00:19:02.47\00:19:04.41 He can forgive sins. 00:19:04.44\00:19:06.07 It says, he will change God's laws 00:19:06.11\00:19:07.68 and we know they change from the Sabbath 00:19:07.71\00:19:10.21 from Saturday to Sunday in honor of worship of sun god. 00:19:10.25\00:19:14.52 So you have all these things happening that he would do. 00:19:14.55\00:19:18.45 Okay. Thank you. 00:19:18.49\00:19:20.26 All right. 00:19:20.29\00:19:21.89 And this papal phase of Rome, 00:19:21.92\00:19:26.33 how long would it last, David, 00:19:26.36\00:19:27.73 because this is a significant point? 00:19:27.76\00:19:29.10 I think, a good answer that comes back from Daniel 7:26-27. 00:19:29.13\00:19:32.70 "But the court shall be seated, 00:19:32.73\00:19:35.00 and they shall take away his dominion, 00:19:35.04\00:19:37.07 to consume and destroy it forever. 00:19:37.11\00:19:40.21 Then the kingdom and dominion, 00:19:40.24\00:19:41.61 and the greatness of the kingdoms 00:19:41.64\00:19:43.01 under the whole heaven, 00:19:43.04\00:19:44.68 shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. 00:19:44.71\00:19:48.68 His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, 00:19:48.72\00:19:50.45 and all dominions shall serve and obey Him." 00:19:50.49\00:19:52.92 What a wonderful time this is going to be 00:19:52.95\00:19:54.99 when all this is wrapped up and God's people 00:19:55.02\00:19:57.43 are not persecuted anymore. 00:19:57.46\00:19:59.19 Yeah, that'll be fantastic. 00:19:59.23\00:20:00.93 Now look, moving on here 00:20:00.96\00:20:02.30 now that Daniel uses an expression 00:20:02.33\00:20:04.63 in his book a number of times, 00:20:04.67\00:20:06.23 which doesn't occur anywhere else in the Scripture. 00:20:06.27\00:20:08.80 And I just want to refer 00:20:08.84\00:20:10.17 to Daniel 11:35, 00:20:10.21\00:20:15.08 which says, "Some of those of understanding shall fall, 00:20:15.11\00:20:18.15 to refine them, purify them, make them white, 00:20:18.18\00:20:21.48 until the time of the end." 00:20:21.52\00:20:23.02 So I'm focusing on this expression, 00:20:23.05\00:20:24.65 the time at the end. 00:20:24.69\00:20:26.02 It occurs in Chapter 12 as well. 00:20:26.05\00:20:27.59 So what is the time of the end? 00:20:27.62\00:20:29.59 Colin, you've done some work on this? 00:20:29.62\00:20:30.96 Yes. 00:20:30.99\00:20:32.33 So again, when you're talking about 00:20:32.36\00:20:33.93 the future glory of God's people, 00:20:33.96\00:20:35.56 before that though, 00:20:35.60\00:20:36.93 it says that for a time times 00:20:36.97\00:20:40.24 and half a time, Daniel 7:25, 00:20:40.27\00:20:42.97 this is how long this power has, 00:20:43.00\00:20:45.47 for time, times and half a time, 00:20:45.51\00:20:46.84 which is 1,260 days or in Revelation refers 00:20:46.88\00:20:50.35 that many times 42 months, three and a half years, 00:20:50.38\00:20:52.65 times and times and half. 00:20:52.68\00:20:54.02 So this is a time that he would rule, 00:20:54.05\00:20:55.38 and from that time on is the time of the end 00:20:55.42\00:20:58.15 until Jesus' Second Coming. 00:20:58.19\00:21:00.16 Okay. Yeah, good. 00:21:00.19\00:21:01.52 Thanks for that. So the time of the end. 00:21:01.56\00:21:04.19 Now, moving on to another point here, 00:21:04.23\00:21:06.43 there are two major players as we come 00:21:06.46\00:21:08.26 towards the conclusion of this prophecy, 00:21:08.30\00:21:11.17 the king of the North and the king of the South. 00:21:11.20\00:21:13.97 So, David, can you summarize for us, 00:21:14.00\00:21:15.87 first of all, who the king of the North is? 00:21:15.90\00:21:18.34 Yes, the king of North encompasses 00:21:18.37\00:21:19.97 many powers as history passes through. 00:21:20.01\00:21:22.44 These chapters takes through many centuries of time. 00:21:22.48\00:21:26.21 And the king of the North really would in the first place 00:21:26.25\00:21:30.12 taken the northern Seleucid Kingdom, 00:21:30.15\00:21:32.42 which when Alexander died, and then four kingdoms came, 00:21:32.45\00:21:35.92 the North was the Seleucid Kingdom. 00:21:35.96\00:21:39.03 And then it comes to pagan Rome, 00:21:39.06\00:21:41.30 then to papal Rome, as we've already seen 00:21:41.33\00:21:43.20 in this particular chapter. 00:21:43.23\00:21:44.77 And to the final confederacy in Revelation called Babylon. 00:21:44.80\00:21:49.00 And Babylon is dealt with by John in Revelation quite a lot. 00:21:49.04\00:21:52.14 So here's the king of the North. 00:21:52.17\00:21:53.68 Okay, so they're operating by the same principles. 00:21:53.71\00:21:56.78 It goes through time through centuries 00:21:56.81\00:21:58.75 of time as the kings of the North. 00:21:58.78\00:22:00.52 But they're handing the baton 00:22:00.55\00:22:01.88 on to the next king of the North. 00:22:01.92\00:22:03.25 It does look. That is what's going on. 00:22:03.28\00:22:04.62 Yeah, true. 00:22:04.65\00:22:05.99 To do, but always to do with God's people, isn't it? 00:22:06.02\00:22:07.36 As the meat in the sandwich or as their attacks. 00:22:07.39\00:22:10.53 What about the king of the South? 00:22:10.56\00:22:11.89 Well, the same thing with the king of the South. 00:22:11.93\00:22:13.26 We had the four divisions of Greek Empire, 00:22:13.29\00:22:15.36 you had the southern Ptolemaic tenancy in Egypt, 00:22:15.40\00:22:18.43 okay, so he took over Egypt that was the king of the South. 00:22:18.47\00:22:21.10 And finally, peace in the meantime, 00:22:21.14\00:22:23.41 this is in 1798. 00:22:23.44\00:22:24.87 So who was pushing against papal Rome around 1798? 00:22:24.91\00:22:28.31 Was France, and it had the secularism 00:22:28.34\00:22:31.91 and also atheism. 00:22:31.95\00:22:33.88 And eventually it moves into global powers, 00:22:33.92\00:22:36.95 who represent the king of the south 00:22:36.99\00:22:38.55 who are representing atheism and secularism. 00:22:38.59\00:22:41.19 And they're pushing against 00:22:41.22\00:22:42.56 the king of the North, this papal, 00:22:42.59\00:22:43.96 these religious powers, 00:22:43.99\00:22:45.33 there's a struggle going back and forth. 00:22:45.36\00:22:47.36 And the interesting thing is that the king of the North 00:22:47.40\00:22:49.26 is going to overpower the king of the South. 00:22:49.30\00:22:50.67 In the end. That's true. Okay, it's really interesting. 00:22:50.70\00:22:53.80 So that the king of the north, ultimately, 00:22:53.84\00:22:57.71 until you get to 11:45, of course, 00:22:57.74\00:23:01.08 where the king of the North 00:23:01.11\00:23:02.44 also makes his waterloo as it were, 00:23:02.48\00:23:04.15 and that's when God's kingdom comes in. 00:23:04.18\00:23:07.02 Okay, look, that's really good things. 00:23:07.05\00:23:09.88 Sounds like it's complicated, folks, 00:23:09.92\00:23:11.25 but there are simple powers at work here. 00:23:11.29\00:23:13.56 And the principles that 00:23:13.59\00:23:14.92 they're operating by, we can follow. 00:23:14.96\00:23:16.76 Okay, lastly I'd like to consider thing, this thing, 00:23:16.79\00:23:20.83 the king of the North, 00:23:20.86\00:23:22.96 as we've seen as the papal Roman phase, 00:23:23.00\00:23:26.10 attacks the glorious holy mountain 00:23:26.13\00:23:28.04 in that last verse of Chapter 11, verse 45. 00:23:28.07\00:23:31.97 And it says, "He shall plant the tents 00:23:32.01\00:23:33.58 of his palace between the seas, 00:23:33.61\00:23:35.94 and the glorious holy mountain, 00:23:35.98\00:23:38.98 yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him." 00:23:39.01\00:23:41.98 So this is where he comes to his end, 00:23:42.02\00:23:43.62 the king of the North that is. 00:23:43.65\00:23:46.42 So this glorious holy mountain here, David, 00:23:46.45\00:23:50.29 we probably should identify who that is? 00:23:50.33\00:23:52.09 Yes. 00:23:52.13\00:23:53.50 I think it's very clear too, 00:23:53.53\00:23:54.86 that this in the Old Testament was Jerusalem. 00:23:54.90\00:23:57.67 And when you come to the New Testament times, 00:23:57.70\00:23:59.77 there's believers throughout the whole earth, 00:23:59.80\00:24:01.54 those who accepted Christ as their Savior. 00:24:01.57\00:24:03.91 And it's a symbolic representation 00:24:03.94\00:24:07.14 of God's people everywhere. 00:24:07.18\00:24:09.08 And Revelation gives more detail of this, 00:24:09.11\00:24:11.38 particularly in Revelation 13 and 19, 00:24:11.41\00:24:13.92 where it says that this power will finally come to its end 00:24:13.95\00:24:18.15 and none shall help it. 00:24:18.19\00:24:20.22 All the way through 11 00:24:20.26\00:24:21.66 we've seen God's people being attacked, 00:24:21.69\00:24:24.66 being persecuted, as I said earlier, 00:24:24.69\00:24:26.53 the meat in the sandwich as it were 00:24:26.56\00:24:27.90 between the North and the South kings. 00:24:27.93\00:24:30.57 But now, God raises up these people to the fact 00:24:30.60\00:24:34.47 that this power will come to its end, 00:24:34.50\00:24:36.47 and none shall help him. 00:24:36.50\00:24:37.84 Yes, and we have the beautiful kingdom of God 00:24:37.87\00:24:40.04 following that. 00:24:40.08\00:24:41.41 Now Chapter 12 actually continues this vision, 00:24:41.44\00:24:43.65 which we won't have time to deal with today, 00:24:43.68\00:24:45.58 but we're going to deal with it in our next program. 00:24:45.61\00:24:47.78 So keep watching, folks, 00:24:47.82\00:24:49.15 and you'll be able to pick up on that. 00:24:49.18\00:24:50.99 Now look, we want to show you now there's, 00:24:51.02\00:24:52.95 if we can have that chart on the screen for the moment. 00:24:52.99\00:24:56.62 This is a chart showing us the parallel 00:24:56.66\00:24:59.23 between Chapter 2 Daniel Chapter 7, 00:24:59.26\00:25:01.93 and Chapter 8, and 9, and now Chapter 11. 00:25:01.96\00:25:04.37 So you can see how these follow through. 00:25:04.40\00:25:07.70 Once again, you have repetition, 00:25:07.74\00:25:09.90 and enlargement of the information 00:25:09.94\00:25:11.81 and the picture that God is giving us. 00:25:11.84\00:25:14.31 We started off with Babylon 00:25:14.34\00:25:15.78 being identified in Daniel Chapter 2 00:25:15.81\00:25:18.11 and Daniel Chapter 7, 00:25:18.15\00:25:20.35 under the symbol of gold in Chapter 2 00:25:20.38\00:25:22.35 and a lion in Chapter 7. 00:25:22.38\00:25:25.42 Then we came down to further down, 00:25:25.45\00:25:28.46 where we see Persia identified in Chapters 2, 7, 8, and 9, 00:25:28.49\00:25:33.70 and Daniel Chapter 11. 00:25:33.73\00:25:35.66 It's actually named Persia in Daniel 11 as we see, 00:25:35.70\00:25:38.97 which confirms the position 00:25:39.00\00:25:40.47 we've been taking with their interpretation. 00:25:40.50\00:25:43.87 Then moving to the identification 00:25:43.91\00:25:45.67 of Greece, the Grecian Empire, 00:25:45.71\00:25:48.41 symbolized by bronze in Chapter 2, 11, 00:25:48.44\00:25:51.65 in Chapter 7 and finally a goat, 00:25:51.68\00:25:55.55 and then Greece. 00:25:55.58\00:25:57.22 So moving right along quickly to Rome, pagan Rome, folks, 00:25:57.25\00:26:01.22 which was a dreadful beast, a little horn. 00:26:01.26\00:26:04.26 You'll notice in Chapter 8 and 9, 00:26:04.29\00:26:05.73 the death of Messiah is raised also in Chapter 11. 00:26:05.76\00:26:10.27 And then the next phase of this power was papal Rome, 00:26:10.30\00:26:14.40 where you had it symbolized in Chapter 7 00:26:14.44\00:26:16.91 by a little horn, who spoke pompous words, 00:26:16.94\00:26:20.38 and have an introduction of the God's judgment here. 00:26:20.41\00:26:24.05 Chapter 8, the little horn, 00:26:24.08\00:26:25.48 once again is the symbol that's used, 00:26:25.51\00:26:27.42 the daily is taken away 00:26:27.45\00:26:28.78 and the cleansing of the sanctuary corresponds 00:26:28.82\00:26:30.59 with the judgment of Chapter 7. 00:26:30.62\00:26:32.92 And then Chapter 11 00:26:32.95\00:26:34.29 also talks about the daily being taken away. 00:26:34.32\00:26:37.29 And finally, and this is the best part, 00:26:37.33\00:26:39.56 God's kingdom, 00:26:39.59\00:26:40.93 where you have represented by a stone, 00:26:40.96\00:26:43.00 first of all, then plain stated in Chapter 7, 00:26:43.03\00:26:46.30 that the kingdom is to be given to the saints. 00:26:46.33\00:26:49.64 And then in Chapter 8 and 9, the little horn is destroyed. 00:26:49.67\00:26:52.81 And in Chapter 11, 00:26:52.84\00:26:54.68 the king of the North is defeated. 00:26:54.71\00:26:56.34 And if we were to go on to Chapter 12, of course, 00:26:56.38\00:26:58.71 there is the introduction 00:26:58.75\00:27:00.08 of God's kingdom in more detail. 00:27:00.12\00:27:02.28 And again, that'll be dealt within our next program. 00:27:02.32\00:27:05.19 So thank you for being with us today 00:27:05.22\00:27:06.65 as we've studied this amazing chapter, 00:27:06.69\00:27:08.59 picking out the eyes of it. 00:27:08.62\00:27:10.16 And I hope this has been helpful. 00:27:10.19\00:27:12.03 The final struggle between God's people 00:27:12.06\00:27:14.20 and the king of the North will require a faith 00:27:14.23\00:27:16.63 that can stand tall, even if alone. 00:27:16.67\00:27:19.83 And being faithful today in the small struggles 00:27:19.87\00:27:22.17 of life strengthens our resolve, 00:27:22.20\00:27:24.74 and it prepares us to face the big issues. 00:27:24.77\00:27:27.64 Only the personal presence of God 00:27:27.68\00:27:29.38 will sustain us in that time. 00:27:29.41\00:27:32.25 So thank you for joining us on Let
