The Time of the End and

is proof of that fact."

Christians who teach Sunday.

They never had a
reason to question it,

but my friend it is contrary

Bible clearly teaches.

Tonight, we will begin
our study with Revelation 17.

That describes this
apostate system as a harlot.

In contrast we will discover
00:02:11.19\00:02:12.77
that God's
people in the last days
00:02:12.80\00:02:14.54
are pointed out in prophecy
00:02:14.57\00:02:16.02
as a pure virgin
woman, a pure virgin woman.
00:02:16.05\00:02:20.14
And as central
scene in Bible prophecy,
00:02:20.17\00:02:21.97
a woman represents the church.
00:02:22.00\00:02:25.09
On one hand as I
have always stated,

"A pure woman represents a
pure church, a true church.

An impure woman,
00:02:33.34\00:02:35.29
a harlot represents a
church that is in apostasy."

Take a look at Revelation
17, the New Testament page 197.

Revelation 17 and we are
going to begin with verses 1-3.

So Revelation 17,
and it's interesting

as we study the
Book of Revelation

to find that we
have these contrast

and we will see that again,
the harlot on one side of it

and the pure
virgin woman on the other.

So here is what
we find Revelation 17

and beginning with
verse 1 where it says,

"Then one of the seven
angels who had the seven bowls

came and spoke with me, saying,
Come here, I will show you

the judgment of the great
harlot who sits on many waters,

with whom the kings of the earth
committed acts of immorality,

and those who dwell on the earth

were made drunk with
the wine of her immorality.

And he carried me away in
the Spirit into a wilderness,

sitting on a scarlet beast,

full of blasphemous names,

And once again we are reminded
that the Book of Revelation

prophetic symbolisms

important and vital truths

as it relate to the end times

and specifically it
relates to the ebb and flow

of this conflict
between good and evil plays out.

And we find a harlot,

that the
prostitute of Revelation 17

plays a major role in
prophecy in the end times.

In fact in Hosea 4:12

we have this
interesting biblical statement
00:04:14.30\00:04:16.17
where it says,
00:04:16.20\00:04:17.23
"For a spirit of
harlotry has led them astray,
00:04:17.26\00:04:22.13
and they have played the harlot,
departing from their God."
00:04:22.16\00:04:26.67
Now this is a statement
that is made about God's people
00:04:26.70\00:04:30.22
at a certain period of
time in the Old Testament.
00:04:30.25\00:04:33.73
And they are
described as being a harlot,
00:04:33.76\00:04:36.22
for they have
departed from their God.
00:04:36.25\00:04:40.37
And so as we look at
the harlot, Revelation 17
00:04:40.40\00:04:43.27
this represents
a people, a church
00:04:43.30\00:04:46.51
that have departed
because of apostasy
00:04:46.54\00:04:50.42
from loyalty to God
00:04:50.45\00:04:53.47
is what the Bible
clearly, clearly indicates.
00:04:53.50\00:04:56.78
And we continue as we come
down to verse 9, where it says,
00:04:56.81\00:04:59.69
"Here is the
mind which has wisdom.
00:04:59.72\00:05:01.74
The seven heads
or seven mountains
00:05:01.77\00:05:03.56
on which the woman sits."
00:05:03.59\00:05:04.99
We are given some keys
to identifying the woman.
00:05:05.02\00:05:09.57
And geographically it's
speaking about the woman
00:05:09.60\00:05:12.24
being located at a place
where there are seven mountains.
00:05:12.27\00:05:17.48
And verse 18
gives us another key,
00:05:17.51\00:05:20.43
as we drop down there.
00:05:20.46\00:05:21.49
Where it says the
woman whom you saw is what?
00:05:21.52\00:05:24.49
What is it? It's the great city.
00:05:24.52\00:05:28.29
And what about the city?
00:05:28.32\00:05:29.78
It says, "Which reigns
over the kings of the earth."
00:05:29.81\00:05:32.99
So I put it together

a great city located at a place
of seven mountains or hills
00:05:34.31\00:05:38.80
that we know
historically has reigned
00:05:38.83\00:05:41.02
over the kings of the earth
00:05:41.05\00:05:42.23
or that is has
dominated the civil system
00:05:42.26\00:05:47.43
and what are we talking about
or who are we talking about?
00:05:47.46\00:05:50.28
We are talking about Rome.
00:05:50.31\00:05:53.20
You know, the
sides are the mountains
00:05:53.23\00:05:55.03
that great city which reigns
over the kings of the earth.
00:05:55.06\00:05:57.95
Again it is the
antichrist is what we find.
00:05:57.98\00:06:01.35
Now, I take you back to
the latter part of verse 1.

We just kind of
read over it very quickly

to set the stage
for the study tonight.

But I want to point out
very-- something very essential

about the harlot
as described here.

Last part of Chapter 1,

I'm sorry, Chapter
17:1 where it says,

"I will show you the
judgment of the great harlot
00:06:20.44\00:06:23.97
who sits on many waters."
00:06:24.00\00:06:27.49
She is going to
be held accountable
00:06:27.52\00:06:30.46
in the end time is
what the Bible indicates.
00:06:30.49\00:06:34.60
And it goes on to say, verse 2
00:06:34.63\00:06:36.03
"With whom the
kings of the earth
00:06:36.06\00:06:37.71
committed acts of immorality."
00:06:37.74\00:06:41.13
Now again this is talking
in literal, literalistic terms.
00:06:41.16\00:06:45.70
No, I mean really the language,
in the original language
00:06:45.73\00:06:50.86
it's talking
about sexual immorality
00:06:50.89\00:06:53.39
and it's not talking literally
00:06:53.42\00:06:55.55
between the woman and
the kings of the earth.
00:06:55.58\00:06:58.15
It's talking spiritually.
00:06:58.18\00:07:00.15
She has prostituted
herself spiritually.
00:07:00.18\00:07:03.80
And it is speaking
of the unholy union
00:07:03.83\00:07:06.87
between church and state
00:07:06.90\00:07:09.22
which is one of the hallmarks
of the apostate system,
00:07:09.25\00:07:13.12
the union of church and state.
00:07:13.15\00:07:15.46
And as you look at this

particularly
through the Middle Ages,

my friend, it was often
through the simple powers
00:07:20.18\00:07:23.69
that the apostate
church exercise its power
00:07:23.72\00:07:27.98
over the masses of the people
in population of the old world,
00:07:28.01\00:07:32.81
that union of church and state.
00:07:32.84\00:07:34.18
By the way we
have here in America
00:07:34.21\00:07:36.28
a unique understanding
of the relationship
00:07:36.31\00:07:39.07
between church and state,
00:07:39.10\00:07:40.13
which I will get
to in a few moments.

But we drop on down to
verses 4 and 5 where it says,

"The woman was
clothed in purple and scarlet,
00:07:47.17\00:07:50.54
and adorned with gold and
precious stones and pearls,

having in her hand a
gold cup full of abominations

of the unclean
things of her immorality."
00:07:57.66\00:08:00.05
And again we are talking in
coded terms, in symbolic terms.

She has this cup
and verse 5 says,

"And on her
forehead a name was written,

a mystery, Babylon the Great.
00:08:10.92\00:08:14.45
And so we have three figures
in the Book of Revelation

that are talking
about the same system.
00:08:18.31\00:08:19.93
Revelation 13 speaks
up that there is beast.
00:08:19.96\00:08:22.39
Revelation 17 here
speaks of it as the harlot
00:08:22.42\00:08:27.05
and it's also
referred in prophecy
00:08:27.08\00:08:29.08
in the Book of
Revelation as Babylon the Great.
00:08:29.11\00:08:33.60
Three symbols for
the same apostate system.
00:08:33.63\00:08:37.78
But she has in her hands
the cup of her immorality.
00:08:37.81\00:08:42.57
And usually it talks
about the wine of immorality
00:08:42.60\00:08:46.49
and my friend it
creates a spiritual stupor
00:08:46.52\00:08:49.51
on those who drink from the cup.
00:08:49.54\00:08:51.45
What it would
possibly be in that cup?

Well, I believe that impart
represents Satan's deceptions.

The apostasy away from
the truth of God's word.

Substituting the traditions
00:09:05.79\00:09:08.07
and the declarations
of the church councils
00:09:08.10\00:09:11.13
and the authority of the church
00:09:11.16\00:09:13.22
for the authority that
resides alone in the scriptures.

Furthermore I
believe it includes

a substitution
for the true salvation
00:09:20.41\00:09:23.92
that comes to us by
faith in Jesus Christ,

a system that is based on works.

And any system
that's based on works.

And we see as we
look at the system

that it has a
counterfeit priestly ministry

as opposed to Jesus,
Jesus high priestly ministry

in the heavenly sanctuary.

And then of course
it has a false Sabbath.

It has, it has
substituted Sunday

which comes to us with
the marks of apostasy in it

for it was out of the
apostasy of the church.

That the-- that Sunday

which comes
straight out of paganism

was substituted
for the worship of God

on the seventh-day Sabbath.

And so we have a
counterfeit Sabbath.

And really this
probably could go on,

but that would be
some of the things.

And as we look at
verse 5, as it talks about,

she is "Babylon the
Great, the mother of harlots

and of the
abominations of the earth.

And if we as we
have already stated,

a woman represents churches.
00:10:34.57\00:10:37.92
A impure woman
represents an impure church,

an apostate church.
00:10:40.78\00:10:43.20
When it talks about
the mother of harlots,
00:10:43.23\00:10:46.57
what would the harlots be
00:10:46.60\00:10:48.60
but those churches that
continue in a state of apostasy.

Now, I'm not
going to give you a list
00:10:53.11\00:10:54.40
that's not my business to
got through and give you list.
00:10:54.43\00:10:57.90
But there are those who
participate in the apostasy.

And some and often unknowingly
particularly as it relates

to this whole issue of
the Sabbath and Sunday.

But she is called
the mother of harlots.

In fact, the Church of Rome
claims to be the mother church.

You've heard that term,
haven't you, the mother church.

And you know there is a reason
00:11:18.84\00:11:20.75
why some 500 years ago
the reformation took place
00:11:20.78\00:11:26.14
because there was recognition
among sincere Christians.
00:11:26.17\00:11:29.43
As they study the Bible,
00:11:29.46\00:11:30.82
they begin to
discover how far the church,
00:11:30.85\00:11:33.51
the established church had
gone down the road of apostasy.
00:11:33.54\00:11:38.15
And they sought
to reform the church,
00:11:38.18\00:11:40.88
but the church would
not be reformed, right.
00:11:40.91\00:11:45.20
It would not be reformed.
00:11:45.23\00:11:47.86
But today, you know,
the movement is back,

the ecumenical movement
is back to the mother church.
00:11:51.07\00:11:55.10
And you see the
less that the Bible plays

a foundational role in the
spiritual life of the church.

And in the spiritual
life of an individual,

the fewer reasons remain

for us to remain
separated from Rome.

I mean, you know,
just take that truth.

these attempts of reaching out

to reestablish

as we look at the orthodox world

again this reaching out,

coming back together.

will look at a prophecy

discover how God intents

to deal with the divisiveness

and confusion that has
ripped the Christian world.

And it is not through
the ecumenical movement

that is going to happen.

For the ecumenical movement

if you really take a look
at is based on compromise,

compromise of biblical truths.

being reunited as Christians

will never be based
upon compromise of truth.

It will be-- it will take place,

this much insight,

our coming
together as God's people

no matter what our
church backgrounds may be

will happen as
a sweeping revival

takes place among God's
people in the various churches.

And then we will come
together in perfect union

and that's the only
way and that revival

will lead to a
revival of the centrality
00:13:44.59\00:13:48.00
of the authority of
scripture among God's people.

That is a central part of it.

And in the New Testament

that we have the establishment
of the Christian church.

the context of Revelation 12,

just before Revelation 13.

And Revelation 13 is the chapter

that deals with the
antichrist, the papal system.

So the setting is
that the people of God

are going to find themselves
in a state of conflict.

It points out in verses 7-9
00:20:50.39\00:20:52.45
that the source of this
conflict began in heaven.

But then it points out
that the conflict continues here

particularly in the
past and in the end times

the conflict
continues to play itself

out here up on this planet.

Oh, my friend, I
wish I could assure you

that as we come to Jesus Christ

and as we deepen

The woman is fleeing.

the woman is running,

Something is threatening her,

woman fled into the wilderness

God's people the church

under oppression in conflict,

nevertheless God has a place

where He will
nourish His people.

and it says for 1260 days,

it's a prophetic period of time

and we saw it for the

in regards to the mark

thee each day for a year."

And again one prophetic
day represents a literal year.

And 1260 prophetic days
therefore represent 1260 years.

That is a long period of time
in which it says the church,

the people of God
would be in hiding

receive a deadly wound.

a reason why the church,

during the supremacy
of the apostate church.

For remember one of the
identifying characteristics

are that is that, it
would make war with the saints.

And that was not easy for
me to recount this history,

church did seek to purge

the old world culture in

and they thought they
sought to do it in terms

that would put the
fear of God in anybody

who thought that
they would depart

from the
authority of the church,

burn somebody at the stake

and let all the people gather
around and watch them burn.

The love of Jesus burned
more brightly in their hearts.

And let me tell you, it
take a lot of love, wouldn't it.

But I want to tell you
there are so many martyrs

that brought testimony
to their faith in Christ,

who are willing to
pay the ultimate price.

There is that
statement in scripture,

"Jesus says my grace
is sufficient for you."

And I believe there is a
special grace that comes.

Some people represent martyrdom

as one of the gifts that
God gives to an individual

that they are able to have
the strength to be martyred.

We have it too

it cost us little.

And then I want to take
you to verses 13 and 14.

For He repeats
it what we just read

and whenever something
is repeated it's because

it's vital, it's important.

Verse 13, "And
when the dragon saw

that he was
thrown down to the earth"

and you know the
dragon is a devil himself,

"he persecuted the woman who
gave birth to the male child."

That child is talking
about Jesus, isn't it.

Verse 14, "But the
two wings of a great eagle

were given to the woman,

so that she could
fly into the wilderness,"

there is the wilderness again,

"to her place where
she was and again it says,

where she was nourished."

You see the parallelisms
between verse 6 and verse 14,

it's repeating the same thing.

is to give us emphasis

but think of it, 600

you an illustration

And just as we
have the supremacy

of the apostate church,
so we find the Old Testament

that the people of
God were in apostasy.

This is coming down
to the time of King Ahab

and wicked Queen Jezebel.

And they were
hunting down the prophets

and they were killing them
00:31:28.24\00:31:29.33
and they would
have killed Elijah

except God preserved Him.

And after delivering His message

that there would be no
rain because of their sin.

Elijah was lead
out into the wilderness

to the place that
God had prepared for him

among the various nations there

unsuccessful in finding him

God protected and nourished him.

That imagery s picked up

and is applied to God's

is the one that we serve.

are peoples and multitudes
and nations and tongues."

talking about the old world

which was the centre

and the basis of
western civilization

for so many centuries.

In contrast what would the
earth that helps the woman.

What would the earth represent?

That would be the very opposite,

and as such
represents the new world,

which was you know,
there were Indians here,

but it was not
heavily populated, was it?

It was a wilderness,

the earth helped the

this just draws us
into the history of it.

You know, what is it
that was moving the pilgrims,

What was drawing many of
the peoples to this country?

There was economic benefit
that some saw in the new world,

their own conscience.

For they were denied that
privilege in the old world,

between church and state,

that dominated the affairs
of the old world for so long.
