And in the Book of Daniel, 00:00:34.35\00:00:35.74 we find some fascinating time prophecies. 00:00:35.77\00:00:38.83 We're gonna be in Daniel Chapter 9 to be exact. 00:00:38.86\00:00:42.12 And as a result of our study this evening 00:00:42.15\00:00:44.33 our faith is going to be strengthened 00:00:44.36\00:00:46.43 in the reliability of God's word 00:00:46.46\00:00:49.98 among another, a number of things 00:00:50.01\00:00:52.03 that I think will impress us. 00:00:52.06\00:00:54.51 And indeed, we find these time prophecies 00:00:54.54\00:00:56.64 as I mentioned outlined 00:00:56.67\00:00:57.96 in the apocalyptic Book of Daniel. 00:00:57.99\00:00:59.51 It is chapter 9 that is going to be 00:00:59.54\00:01:01.63 the Old Testament, page 637. 00:01:01.66\00:01:07.00 Old Testament, page 637. 00:01:07.03\00:01:09.95 So it's Daniel 9 00:01:09.98\00:01:12.01 and we're looking at verse 24 to begin with. 00:01:12.04\00:01:16.83 And then we're gonna look at the context 00:01:16.86\00:01:18.69 in which we find these time prophecies 00:01:18.72\00:01:21.49 and these are vital. 00:01:21.52\00:01:22.55 These prophecies are really vital to us. 00:01:22.58\00:01:26.19 And this is what we find as we looked again Daniel 9:24. 00:01:26.22\00:01:30.45 It says, "Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people 00:01:30.48\00:01:34.16 and your holy city." 00:01:34.19\00:01:36.89 And I remind you who Daniel is, 00:01:36.92\00:01:38.80 Daniel is a Jew. 00:01:38.83\00:01:40.88 Daniel is a Jew that was taken into captivity 00:01:40.91\00:01:43.61 by King Nebuchadnezzar and is in Babylon. 00:01:43.64\00:01:47.23 Nebuchadnezzar had this practice 00:01:47.26\00:01:49.20 as he conquered one nation after another in what we call 00:01:49.23\00:01:53.94 the Middle East or Mesopotamia, 00:01:53.97\00:01:57.38 his practice was that he would take 00:01:57.41\00:01:59.09 many of the young promising, young people into captivity. 00:01:59.12\00:02:03.90 He would train them for his civil service 00:02:03.93\00:02:06.46 and he would administer 00:02:06.49\00:02:07.76 his vast empire through these individuals. 00:02:07.79\00:02:11.70 And Daniel was chosen to be 00:02:11.73\00:02:13.91 one of the civil servant's of Nebuchadnezzar. 00:02:13.94\00:02:18.29 And so he spends the rest of his life, 00:02:18.32\00:02:21.58 his long life in Babylon. 00:02:21.61\00:02:25.71 And he is a prophet. 00:02:25.74\00:02:27.58 He receives revelations, he has visions 00:02:27.61\00:02:31.52 and so we're gonna be looking in part 00:02:31.55\00:02:33.37 as some of the revelations given to him. 00:02:33.40\00:02:34.94 And specifically when it says here, 00:02:34.97\00:02:36.88 "Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people" 00:02:36.91\00:02:39.21 it is talking of course of Daniel's people, 00:02:39.24\00:02:41.51 it's taking about the Jews. 00:02:41.54\00:02:44.54 And so we have a time prophecy that relates to the Jews 00:02:44.57\00:02:49.15 and it says when it says, "your holy city," 00:02:49.18\00:02:51.53 of course it's talking about Jerusalem, Jerusalem. 00:02:51.56\00:02:56.05 And again I want to get into the context. 00:02:56.08\00:02:58.20 Look at verse 2, I'm gonna give you the context. 00:02:58.23\00:03:01.27 In verse 2, I want to turn the page here it says, 00:03:01.30\00:03:04.86 "In the first year of his reign," 00:03:04.89\00:03:07.53 that is speaking of speaking of Darius, 00:03:07.56\00:03:11.13 the Mede and his reign. 00:03:11.16\00:03:14.20 He says, "I, Daniel, observed in the books 00:03:14.23\00:03:17.12 the number of the years 00:03:17.15\00:03:18.30 which was revealed as the word of the Lord 00:03:18.33\00:03:20.67 to Jeremiah the prophet 00:03:20.70\00:03:22.29 for the completion of the desolations of Jerusalem, 00:03:22.32\00:03:25.87 namely, seventy years." 00:03:25.90\00:03:29.65 So, Daniel has been here for decades 00:03:29.68\00:03:33.48 in the ancient city of Babylon. 00:03:33.51\00:03:35.98 And you know, that surprises that the prophet himself 00:03:36.01\00:03:38.63 was a student of prophecy. 00:03:38.66\00:03:40.90 He had been studying the prophecies of Jeremiah. 00:03:40.93\00:03:43.30 Now Jeremiah wrote approximately in generation 00:03:43.33\00:03:46.07 or so before the time of Daniel. 00:03:46.10\00:03:50.06 And among the other things that Jeremiah prophesied about 00:03:50.09\00:03:53.53 he was not a popular prophet 00:03:53.56\00:03:55.91 because he was predicting all of the doom 00:03:55.94\00:03:58.78 that was going to come to Jerusalem 00:03:58.81\00:04:01.14 and because of their sin 00:04:01.17\00:04:03.71 and because of their rebelliousness against God. 00:04:03.74\00:04:07.59 And I want to tell you they just were listening to him. 00:04:07.62\00:04:10.49 They threw him into dungeon, he had to go through 00:04:10.52\00:04:13.31 all the tragedy of not only predicting 00:04:13.34\00:04:16.11 what was gonna happen but seeing the events unfolding. 00:04:16.14\00:04:22.16 And in fact, he also wrote the book of Lamentations. 00:04:22.19\00:04:26.25 Read the book of Lamentations 00:04:26.28\00:04:27.79 as he laments what happened to his people, 00:04:27.82\00:04:32.21 and to the city of Jerusalem. 00:04:32.24\00:04:34.08 It's just heartbreaking 00:04:34.11\00:04:35.60 when you look at that particular book. 00:04:35.63\00:04:38.82 So anyway he's been studying through the prophet Jeremiah 00:04:38.85\00:04:42.09 and he comes across his prophecy calculates out the time 00:04:42.12\00:04:46.60 and it becomes clear to him that 00:04:46.63\00:04:48.61 it's a bad time for this prophecy to be fulfilled. 00:04:48.64\00:04:52.68 It's recorded in Jeremiah 29:10. 00:04:52.71\00:04:55.34 This is the prophecy that he was looking at. 00:04:55.37\00:04:57.47 He says, "For thus says the Lord, 00:04:57.50\00:04:59.26 'When seventy years have been completed for Babylon, 00:04:59.29\00:05:02.60 I will visit you and fulfill My good word to you, 00:05:02.63\00:05:06.43 to bring you back to this place.'" 00:05:06.46\00:05:09.87 And so the seventy year prophecy predicted 00:05:09.90\00:05:13.58 a restoration of the Jews back to the city of Jerusalem. 00:05:13.61\00:05:21.23 The restoration of the nation as well will be a part of that. 00:05:21.26\00:05:25.66 And so the first part of Daniel 9 00:05:25.69\00:05:27.98 as he recognizes the time is at hand, 00:05:28.01\00:05:30.62 we find Daniel in earnests 00:05:30.65\00:05:32.77 and intercessory prayer on behalf of his people. 00:05:32.80\00:05:35.98 And during the course of his prayer, 00:05:36.01\00:05:37.45 he is confessing the sins of his people. 00:05:37.48\00:05:41.62 Notice some of the things 00:05:41.65\00:05:42.68 that he was concerned about as we drop down to verse 5. 00:05:42.71\00:05:46.60 Verse 5 he prays, 00:05:46.63\00:05:48.88 "We have sinned, committed iniquity, 00:05:48.91\00:05:52.41 acted wickedly and rebelled, even turning aside from Your 00:05:52.44\00:05:57.17 commandments and ordinances." 00:05:57.20\00:05:59.76 And my friend, they paid an awful price 00:05:59.79\00:06:03.38 because they've turned away from the Lord. 00:06:03.41\00:06:05.90 They again the city was destroyed, 00:06:05.93\00:06:08.03 they were sending into captivity 00:06:08.06\00:06:10.51 because they had turned away 00:06:10.54\00:06:13.24 from keeping the commandments of God. 00:06:13.27\00:06:16.19 Now they're those-- those are gonna tell us the commandments. 00:06:16.22\00:06:18.53 What are the commandments? 00:06:18.56\00:06:20.48 How important can the commandments be? 00:06:20.51\00:06:23.52 My friend, God himself gave them to us. 00:06:23.55\00:06:26.53 It is the standard by which we are by the grace of Jesus. 00:06:26.56\00:06:31.22 And it is always through the grace of Jesus, isn't it? 00:06:31.25\00:06:34.20 It's through the-- these are the commandments 00:06:34.23\00:06:35.85 that we are to seek to live in harmony with. 00:06:35.88\00:06:40.49 And as we see here, this is one other sins 00:06:40.52\00:06:44.11 and it was not the only sin 00:06:44.14\00:06:45.66 as we come down to look at verse 6 where he says, 00:06:45.69\00:06:48.80 "Moreover, we have not listened to Your servants the prophets, 00:06:48.83\00:06:52.49 who spoke in Your name to our kings, 00:06:52.52\00:06:54.46 our princes, our fathers and all the people of the land." 00:06:54.49\00:06:59.52 And in addition to having turned away 00:06:59.55\00:07:02.62 from the commandments, 00:07:02.65\00:07:04.46 they had failed to respond to the testimony 00:07:04.49\00:07:07.89 that God gave to them through the prophets. 00:07:07.92\00:07:11.58 And, my friend, how vital is the testimony 00:07:11.61\00:07:14.43 that God has given to us through the prophetic word, 00:07:14.46\00:07:18.06 that is through the scriptures. 00:07:18.09\00:07:20.84 God gives us not only an understanding of truth 00:07:20.87\00:07:25.28 but often He's giving us council, 00:07:25.31\00:07:27.60 He's giving us direction. 00:07:27.63\00:07:29.80 And let me just bear a testimony to it. 00:07:29.83\00:07:31.45 My friend, this is the book to live by. 00:07:31.48\00:07:34.23 You know, we're gonna live by something, aren't we? 00:07:34.26\00:07:36.76 And most people in the world they're gonna be living by 00:07:36.79\00:07:38.79 for their own interests 00:07:38.82\00:07:40.06 and they're gonna be living in accordance 00:07:40.09\00:07:42.29 with their own instincts. 00:07:42.32\00:07:46.70 And, my friend, that really isn't sufficient. 00:07:46.73\00:07:51.09 We need something that is dependable, 00:07:51.12\00:07:54.47 something that's concrete, 00:07:54.50\00:07:56.40 something that we can rely upon. 00:07:56.43\00:07:59.48 And, my friend, that's the Bible. 00:07:59.51\00:08:01.89 And I know many of you have found that 00:08:01.92\00:08:03.70 in your life's experience in the past 00:08:03.73\00:08:05.52 and maybe some of you're coming to it 00:08:05.55\00:08:07.11 or maybe you're even coming back to it. 00:08:07.14\00:08:10.64 I came to it as a young man. I came to it as a teenager. 00:08:10.67\00:08:14.94 And you know at my junior year in high school, 00:08:14.97\00:08:16.91 this is when my faith in Jesus 00:08:16.94\00:08:19.47 and His word was revived in my experience. 00:08:19.50\00:08:21.72 I was 11 years of age when I gave my heart to Jesus 00:08:21.75\00:08:24.71 and was baptized. 00:08:24.74\00:08:26.45 But I had a kind of rebirth experience 00:08:26.48\00:08:32.32 when I was about 17 years of age. 00:08:32.35\00:08:35.37 And I made that determination as a young man 00:08:35.40\00:08:37.63 that I was going to seek to live by the principles 00:08:37.66\00:08:41.58 and the teachings of the word of God. 00:08:41.61\00:08:44.55 I haven't always measured up. 00:08:44.58\00:08:46.45 There had been significant failures in my life. 00:08:46.48\00:08:49.46 I mean, you know, we're human, 00:08:49.49\00:08:51.47 we all will stumble and fall along the way, won't we? 00:08:51.50\00:08:54.72 But there is that purpose that we have determined 00:08:54.75\00:08:59.38 by the grace of God 00:08:59.41\00:09:00.57 that we want to do the right thing. 00:09:00.60\00:09:02.78 We want to live in harmony with what the Bibles teach us. 00:09:02.81\00:09:05.82 But let me tell you, these people have departed, 00:09:05.85\00:09:09.33 they had departed from God, they had departed 00:09:09.36\00:09:11.98 from the teachings of the word of God. 00:09:12.01\00:09:15.16 They had neglected the teachings of the prophets. 00:09:15.19\00:09:19.17 In fact you'll find period of times, 00:09:19.20\00:09:21.24 you know, periods of time in among Ancient Israel 00:09:21.27\00:09:25.02 where they hunted down the prophets to destroy them. 00:09:25.05\00:09:28.44 They didn't like the messages that they were getting. 00:09:28.47\00:09:31.94 And I call it, you know, 00:09:31.97\00:09:34.47 is that spiritual teenage syndrome. 00:09:34.50\00:09:38.46 You could be 60 years of age, 00:09:38.49\00:09:40.62 you could be, you know, 80 years of age 00:09:40.65\00:09:42.90 and going through the spiritual teenage syndrome 00:09:42.93\00:09:45.65 that is this rebelliousness this unwillingness to listen 00:09:45.68\00:09:50.59 and so unwillingness to be teachable. 00:09:50.62\00:09:53.32 And, my friend, they had a bad case of it. 00:09:53.35\00:09:56.48 And that's-- it got them into lot of trouble. 00:09:56.51\00:09:59.15 And, my friend, the same thing can happen to us 00:09:59.18\00:10:01.70 when we willfully depart from the counsels of God's word. 00:10:01.73\00:10:06.76 There's a direct cause in fact a relationship 00:10:06.79\00:10:09.29 that plays out in our lives. 00:10:09.32\00:10:12.25 And, you know, as it says in Galatians Chapter 6, 00:10:12.28\00:10:16.35 you know, it says, "We reap what we sow." 00:10:16.38\00:10:20.63 And my friend, if you want to reap out 00:10:20.66\00:10:22.39 good things in our lives, 00:10:22.42\00:10:23.50 we've got to plant good things into our lives, right. 00:10:23.53\00:10:27.05 And a lot of our lives as we get older 00:10:27.08\00:10:29.34 is some of it is uprooting some of the bad things 00:10:29.37\00:10:32.30 that got planted in maybe very early in life. 00:10:32.33\00:10:35.48 And by the grace of Jesus, 00:10:35.51\00:10:36.65 we can do some uprooting and some replanting. 00:10:36.68\00:10:40.07 We have the opportunity to be growing 00:10:40.10\00:10:43.50 and planting and reaping out the good things 00:10:43.53\00:10:48.94 that had been promised to us in the Jesus Christ. 00:10:48.97\00:10:52.11 And the good things that we find in the book, 00:10:52.14\00:10:55.93 this book that is so dynamic, this book that is so powerful. 00:10:55.96\00:11:00.88 Remember Paul said it, "faith cometh by hearing, 00:11:00.91\00:11:03.38 and hearing by the word of God." 00:11:03.41\00:11:07.30 And so if you want your faith to increase my friend, 00:11:07.33\00:11:10.95 just keep studying the word of God 00:11:10.98\00:11:14.15 prayerfully seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit. 00:11:14.18\00:11:17.94 Read through 1 and 2 Chronicles 00:11:17.97\00:11:20.15 and 1 and 2 Kings and 1 and 2 Samuel. 00:11:20.18\00:11:23.41 Those historical records as we have in the Old Testament 00:11:23.44\00:11:27.19 and you'll find that the record historically is that 00:11:27.22\00:11:30.57 it seemed like the people of God 00:11:30.60\00:11:32.00 were often more in rebellion than they were faithful to him. 00:11:32.03\00:11:37.35 It's a sad history as you look at Ancient Israel. 00:11:37.38\00:11:41.90 And I mean at one point by the time of Jeremiah 00:11:41.93\00:11:45.26 they had gone so far into rebellion again. 00:11:45.29\00:11:49.13 They were worshipping the sun god from the Temple Mount. 00:11:49.16\00:11:53.17 The people of God were worshipping the sun, Baal. 00:11:53.20\00:11:57.59 And unfortunately that was not an isolated incidence 00:11:57.62\00:12:00.92 where they had turned to the other god's 00:12:00.95\00:12:03.27 of the nations surrounding them. 00:12:03.30\00:12:06.19 And so the nation was destroyed, the city laid in ruins 00:12:06.22\00:12:13.46 because they were not listened. 00:12:13.49\00:12:15.41 And the people-- 00:12:15.44\00:12:16.56 many of them were taken into captivity as we noted. 00:12:16.59\00:12:19.54 Again we must be sure to the grace of Jesus 00:12:19.57\00:12:22.91 that we give heed to the teachings 00:12:22.94\00:12:25.17 and principles of God's word. 00:12:25.20\00:12:28.32 And then I take you on down to verse 10 00:12:28.35\00:12:30.91 where he repeats. 00:12:30.94\00:12:32.80 He says, "Nor have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, 00:12:32.83\00:12:36.58 to walk in His teachings which He set before us 00:12:36.61\00:12:39.38 through His servants the prophets." 00:12:39.41\00:12:41.18 Let me tell you, this matter of being a Christian, 00:12:41.21\00:12:43.21 a believer in God is not just a good fuzzy feeling inside. 00:12:43.24\00:12:49.94 There-- there is that, there is joy, there is peace, 00:12:49.97\00:12:53.70 there is all of this love 00:12:53.73\00:12:56.21 that marks our relationship with Him. 00:12:56.24\00:12:58.79 But, my friend, it must be more than 00:12:58.82\00:13:00.80 just a good feeling. 00:13:00.83\00:13:04.59 A relationship calls for a commitment 00:13:04.62\00:13:08.13 and it is like, it is like a marriage of many ways. 00:13:08.16\00:13:11.96 I mean, do you always feel remember it, 00:13:11.99\00:13:14.93 there was, you know the high when you got married, 00:13:14.96\00:13:17.25 when you're accord in and that you got married. 00:13:17.28\00:13:20.06 But then, you know, there was that kind of settling down. 00:13:20.09\00:13:22.82 Did you feel that high emotion that deep love everyday, 00:13:22.85\00:13:27.79 every moment, did you always-- do you always feel that 00:13:27.82\00:13:30.17 in a committed marriage relationship? 00:13:30.20\00:13:33.04 No, there are times when the feelings are not there. 00:13:33.07\00:13:36.18 Are we any less committed 00:13:36.21\00:13:39.11 because the feelings are not necessarily 00:13:39.14\00:13:41.51 always right there? 00:13:41.54\00:13:42.97 No. We are committed. 00:13:43.00\00:13:46.10 And so it is in our relationship with God. 00:13:46.13\00:13:48.86 There will be some high times. 00:13:48.89\00:13:50.47 There will be some wonderful times. 00:13:50.50\00:13:52.62 There will be some deep emotion but it will not always be so. 00:13:52.65\00:13:57.76 Are we any less committed when there is a deep emotion? 00:13:57.79\00:14:02.53 Of course, we must not let emotionalism 00:14:02.56\00:14:06.43 drive our experience with God. 00:14:06.46\00:14:09.29 There is all that love and joy, won't deny it, 00:14:09.32\00:14:12.07 it's an essential part of it. 00:14:12.10\00:14:14.39 But, you know, our faith must go deeper 00:14:14.42\00:14:17.97 where there is a commitment 00:14:18.00\00:14:19.05 regardless of how we feel at heart, right. 00:14:19.08\00:14:23.34 There's got to be commitment that goes deep. 00:14:23.37\00:14:26.53 And by the grace of Jesus, 00:14:26.56\00:14:28.15 He will work that out in our lives. 00:14:28.18\00:14:30.72 And, so my friend, that tells us we must be sure 00:14:30.75\00:14:33.53 that by the grace of Jesus we give heed. 00:14:33.56\00:14:37.27 Not because we are necessarily being compelled, 00:14:37.30\00:14:40.19 certainly not because we are being forced 00:14:40.22\00:14:42.90 because God forces nobody but because we have made 00:14:42.93\00:14:46.80 a conscious decision in our lives 00:14:46.83\00:14:49.90 that this is what we stand for. 00:14:49.93\00:14:52.52 And we got to stand for something, don't we? 00:14:52.55\00:14:54.62 As Christians we've got to stand for something. 00:14:54.65\00:14:57.60 And I want to tell you without the book, 00:14:57.63\00:14:59.98 we have nothing. 00:15:00.01\00:15:02.09 You know, what we'll know about Jesus, little footnote 00:15:02.12\00:15:05.25 and just a little footnote in history. 00:15:05.28\00:15:08.07 That's all we have recorded, 00:15:08.10\00:15:09.50 if you want to go back to the time in Jesus, 00:15:09.53\00:15:11.77 it's just really just a brief reference to Jesus historically. 00:15:11.80\00:15:16.47 So what we know about Jesus Christ 00:15:16.50\00:15:18.20 and, my friend, it wasn't just above from the sky, 00:15:18.23\00:15:20.78 it comes through a revelation of the word of God. 00:15:20.81\00:15:24.81 And so everything depends upon the word of God. 00:15:24.84\00:15:27.32 Paul said in writing to Timothy the young preacher Timothy, 00:15:27.35\00:15:31.50 II Timothy 4:3, 4. 00:15:31.53\00:15:34.06 He says, "For the time will come when they," 00:15:34.09\00:15:37.97 and he is speaking of the people of God, 00:15:38.00\00:15:39.48 "when they will not endure sound doctrine." 00:15:39.51\00:15:42.99 Doctrine is just another word for teaching. 00:15:43.02\00:15:47.19 Teaching is essential. 00:15:47.22\00:15:49.91 Listen remember, remember what it was when-- 00:15:49.94\00:15:52.34 to be really in the throes of that 00:15:52.37\00:15:54.43 first love experience with the one, 00:15:54.46\00:15:56.67 the significant one in your life. 00:15:56.70\00:15:59.17 Remember the joy of spending time together, 00:15:59.20\00:16:01.95 remember that. 00:16:01.98\00:16:03.98 When you remind yourselves of that, don't we? 00:16:04.01\00:16:06.37 You know, we spend every available hour. 00:16:06.40\00:16:09.14 You know, I met my wife 00:16:09.17\00:16:10.61 at the beginning of my sophomore year in college. 00:16:10.64\00:16:13.61 And I had a great roommate, in fact, I just worked with him, 00:16:13.64\00:16:16.93 he is a pastor of the Thousand Oaks Church 00:16:16.96\00:16:20.72 down in Southern California. 00:16:20.75\00:16:22.26 And so, Mike had invited me to come in to work with he 00:16:22.29\00:16:25.85 and Larry Meager who was the senior pastor. 00:16:25.88\00:16:29.68 But I tell you when I met Donna, he hardly ever saw me again. 00:16:29.71\00:16:34.75 Because every available moment 00:16:34.78\00:16:36.91 I had I was spending with this young woman that I discovered. 00:16:36.94\00:16:41.93 I was eating with her. 00:16:41.96\00:16:43.67 You know, I would be studying with her when I could. 00:16:43.70\00:16:46.69 I was spending every available moment with her. 00:16:46.72\00:16:49.76 And when the weekend came we were in church together, 00:16:49.79\00:16:52.37 Saturday night we were together, 00:16:52.40\00:16:53.91 Sabbath afternoon we were together, 00:16:53.94\00:16:56.27 Sunday, we were together as much as we possibly could. 00:16:56.30\00:16:59.50 We just loved to be with each other. 00:16:59.53\00:17:01.83 And the joy of really knowing who she really was 00:17:01.86\00:17:06.52 and, you know, she had this great personality. 00:17:06.55\00:17:09.73 My wife has a great personality. She is just as so vivacious. 00:17:09.76\00:17:13.99 When I brought her home to meet my family, 00:17:14.02\00:17:16.69 my sister Bonnie seven years young than I. 00:17:16.72\00:17:19.24 She said, "finally, we've got somebody 00:17:19.27\00:17:21.43 it's gonna bring some life to this family." 00:17:21.46\00:17:24.64 And that was my wife, Donna. 00:17:24.67\00:17:26.77 But there was this joy of talking, 00:17:26.80\00:17:30.04 getting to know each other, to learn about each other. 00:17:30.07\00:17:34.86 And, my friend, that is the connection between us 00:17:34.89\00:17:38.32 and the God that we love 00:17:38.35\00:17:40.00 the one who died for us and the teachings 00:17:40.03\00:17:43.80 in Revelations of God's word. 00:17:43.83\00:17:46.23 This is what gives content to our relationship to Jesus. 00:17:46.26\00:17:52.34 So "They will not endure sound doctrine, 00:17:52.37\00:17:54.09 but wanting to have their ears tickled." 00:17:54.12\00:17:56.07 What do you think that means, they want their ears tickled? 00:17:56.10\00:17:59.33 Oh, just tell me something that will be interesting. 00:17:59.36\00:18:01.32 And just tell me something that I will enjoy hearing right. 00:18:01.35\00:18:06.80 Just tell me of the good days. 00:18:06.83\00:18:09.00 Well, during the course of the seminar 00:18:09.03\00:18:10.71 we're gonna tell you a lot of good things from God's word. 00:18:10.74\00:18:14.09 But they're gonna be some things 00:18:14.12\00:18:15.31 just human nature being what it is that-- 00:18:15.34\00:18:17.43 it's kind of go against the grain 00:18:17.46\00:18:19.62 of our natural inclinations. 00:18:19.65\00:18:22.22 I don't know but for some of us 00:18:22.25\00:18:23.43 we're gonna find yourself on our knees, 00:18:23.46\00:18:25.16 you know, working prayerfully through some issues in our lives 00:18:25.19\00:18:28.40 as we go through the word of God. 00:18:28.43\00:18:30.54 It's just the way that it is. We all go through that. 00:18:30.57\00:18:33.95 "But they wanting to have their ears tickled, 00:18:33.98\00:18:35.81 they will accumulate for themselves teachers 00:18:35.84\00:18:38.55 in accordance to their own desires, 00:18:38.58\00:18:41.47 and will turn away their ears from the truth, 00:18:41.50\00:18:44.34 and will turn aside to myths." 00:18:44.37\00:18:46.62 And, my friends, when we turn away 00:18:46.65\00:18:47.71 from the truth we end up in err. 00:18:47.74\00:18:51.60 Remember Jesus said it, "You shall know the truth, 00:18:51.63\00:18:54.93 and the truth," will what? 00:18:54.96\00:18:57.62 "Shall set you free." And it is. 00:18:57.65\00:19:02.76 It sets us free from false doctrine in teaching 00:19:02.79\00:19:06.08 from misconceptions of who God and Jesus really truly is. 00:19:06.11\00:19:12.97 So let's go on down to verses 16, 17, 00:19:13.00\00:19:17.25 16, 17 as Daniel continues to pray. 00:19:17.28\00:19:20.84 He says verse 16, 00:19:20.87\00:19:22.04 "O Lord, in accordance with all Your righteous acts, 00:19:22.07\00:19:24.79 let now Your anger and Your wrath 00:19:24.82\00:19:27.22 turn away from Your city Jerusalem, 00:19:27.25\00:19:29.61 Your holy mountain, for because of our sins 00:19:29.64\00:19:32.95 and the iniquities of our fathers, 00:19:32.98\00:19:35.25 Jerusalem and Your people have become 00:19:35.28\00:19:38.25 a reproach to all those around us." 00:19:38.28\00:19:41.84 So, one of the things he's asking 00:19:41.87\00:19:44.02 for restoration of the city. 00:19:44.05\00:19:48.07 And that did eventually take place, right. 00:19:48.10\00:19:51.61 Read through Ezra and Nehemiah 00:19:51.64\00:19:53.60 the books of Ezra and Nehemiah, 00:19:53.63\00:19:55.81 it's a record of the restoration on the city. 00:19:55.84\00:19:59.23 But that's not all that he's concerned about. 00:19:59.26\00:20:01.23 In verse 17 he says, "So now, our God, 00:20:01.26\00:20:04.04 listen to the prayer of Your servant 00:20:04.07\00:20:06.19 and to his supplications, 00:20:06.22\00:20:07.76 and for Your sake, O Lord, 00:20:07.79\00:20:09.30 let Your face shine on Your desolate sanctuary." 00:20:09.33\00:20:13.49 Now the term we would probably be 00:20:13.52\00:20:15.80 most familiar with is temple. 00:20:15.83\00:20:20.45 Let your face shine on your desolate temple. 00:20:20.48\00:20:23.81 That is the temple that Solomon had built. 00:20:23.84\00:20:27.59 This beautiful structure devoted 00:20:27.62\00:20:30.94 and dedicated to the worship of the true God 00:20:30.97\00:20:34.61 laid in ruins because of Nebuchadnezzar. 00:20:34.64\00:20:39.95 And there's some history behind of this, 00:20:39.98\00:20:42.06 he didn't come just once with those Babylonian hordes. 00:20:42.09\00:20:47.07 He came three times. He did to Jerusalem. 00:20:47.10\00:20:52.35 The first, two-times he saw to setup a puppet king. 00:20:52.38\00:20:57.08 You know, what that is? A puppet king. 00:20:57.11\00:20:59.58 That would recognize his sovereignty 00:20:59.61\00:21:03.27 and yet would rule on a limited basis over the people. 00:21:03.30\00:21:06.39 But they kept rebelling against him. 00:21:06.42\00:21:09.13 And so, twice he came back. 00:21:09.16\00:21:12.40 And the third time that he came back, 00:21:12.43\00:21:15.14 he said, I'm not coming back again. 00:21:15.17\00:21:17.48 And that's when the city and that's when the temple 00:21:17.51\00:21:21.01 that Solomon built was destroyed. 00:21:21.04\00:21:24.63 And so, here Daniel is praying for God to restore the city 00:21:24.66\00:21:29.21 and the temple or the sanctuary for restoration of it. 00:21:29.24\00:21:34.13 And so, I take you on down to verses 21 and 22. Guess what? 00:21:34.16\00:21:37.74 Daniel receives an answer to his prayer. 00:21:37.77\00:21:41.21 Verse 21, "While I was still speaking in prayer, 00:21:41.24\00:21:43.69 then the man Gabriel" an angel actually, 00:21:43.72\00:21:47.67 he appeared as a man but he was actually an angel. 00:21:47.70\00:21:51.85 "Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision previously, 00:21:51.88\00:21:55.20 came to me in my extreme weariness 00:21:55.23\00:21:57.80 about the time of the evening offering. 00:21:57.83\00:22:01.04 He gave me instruction and talked with me and said, 00:22:01.07\00:22:03.24 O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you 00:22:03.27\00:22:06.22 insight with understanding." 00:22:06.25\00:22:08.90 So again we-- 00:22:08.93\00:22:10.16 he's been praying about his people 00:22:10.19\00:22:11.81 and, you know, going over the sad history 00:22:11.84\00:22:14.19 what it happened and asking God 00:22:14.22\00:22:16.50 to look favorably upon his people. 00:22:16.53\00:22:18.98 And the angel Gabriel appears 00:22:19.01\00:22:22.29 and he said, I'm going to give you insight. 00:22:22.32\00:22:24.07 I'm gonna give you some understanding 00:22:24.10\00:22:25.59 of some Bible things that relate to your people 00:22:25.62\00:22:28.17 and by the way we will discover to all peoples. 00:22:28.20\00:22:31.75 So let's get back into verse 24, shall we? 00:22:31.78\00:22:35.98 Where he says, "Seventy weeks have been decreed 00:22:36.01\00:22:37.65 for your people and your holy city." 00:22:37.68\00:22:39.92 We've already read that. 00:22:39.95\00:22:41.81 He implied here directly is a period of probation 00:22:41.84\00:22:45.29 that will be given to the people of God 00:22:45.32\00:22:48.17 to end their long period of rebellion against him. 00:22:48.20\00:22:54.41 And it goes on to say, "To finish the transgression, 00:22:54.44\00:22:58.34 to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, 00:22:58.37\00:23:02.48 to bring in everlasting righteousness, 00:23:02.51\00:23:04.49 to seal up vision and prophecy 00:23:04.52\00:23:07.19 and to anoint the most holy place." 00:23:07.22\00:23:09.73 I mean, there's a lot there contained in verse 24 00:23:09.76\00:23:12.51 and of course the question comes what, 00:23:12.54\00:23:14.13 you know, what he's talking about here? 00:23:14.16\00:23:17.10 Or the better question would be who is he talking about? 00:23:17.13\00:23:20.97 "Who is it that would finish 00:23:21.00\00:23:22.56 the transgression among his people? 00:23:22.59\00:23:25.04 Who is it that will make an end of sin, 00:23:25.07\00:23:26.77 who will make atonement for iniquity etcetera, etcetera? 00:23:26.80\00:23:30.17 And the answer is, it's Jesus. 00:23:30.20\00:23:35.04 And so the prophecy we take note of it, 00:23:35.07\00:23:36.69 from the very beginning is messianic 00:23:36.72\00:23:40.09 because these time prophecies deal 00:23:40.12\00:23:42.04 with not only the people of God in the past 00:23:42.07\00:23:44.47 but it deals with Jesus who alone is the answer to sin. 00:23:44.50\00:23:49.82 There is no answer. Is there another answer. 00:23:49.85\00:23:53.84 I'll tell you people are looking for what 00:23:53.87\00:23:55.65 as we like to say in the words of that old song, 00:23:55.68\00:23:57.86 looking for it in all the wrong places. 00:23:57.89\00:24:02.35 You know, they look for it in drugs, 00:24:02.38\00:24:04.13 they look for it in sex, they look for it in materialism, 00:24:04.16\00:24:08.21 they look for it in all so and so many things. 00:24:08.24\00:24:13.49 But my friend, those things all leave us empty. 00:24:13.52\00:24:19.36 It all leaves us empty. 00:24:19.39\00:24:22.39 My friend, if we want, 00:24:22.42\00:24:23.96 if we want to experience salvation, 00:24:23.99\00:24:27.79 if we want to really in a meaningful way, 00:24:27.82\00:24:29.83 in a way that really gets down 00:24:29.86\00:24:30.89 to the roots of the problem of sin in our lives, 00:24:30.92\00:24:34.32 it is a Savior that we need. 00:24:34.35\00:24:36.68 And it is a Savior that is presented here in verse 24. 00:24:36.71\00:24:40.86 He is the only answer, 00:24:40.89\00:24:42.58 He truly is, there's no other way. 00:24:42.61\00:24:47.12 And so, their whole history 00:24:47.15\00:24:48.84 and their whole future was wrapped up 00:24:48.87\00:24:51.95 in the coming of the Savior much as our futures, 00:24:51.98\00:24:56.29 our present and our futures are wrapped up in the Savior. 00:24:56.32\00:25:00.57 But we have this time prophecy seventy weeks. 00:25:00.60\00:25:02.72 Now I got to get back to the time element of this prophecy, 00:25:02.75\00:25:06.46 "Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people." 00:25:06.49\00:25:09.22 And the principle as you discover it in the Bible 00:25:09.25\00:25:11.98 is a fairly simple one. 00:25:12.01\00:25:13.21 We find it 00:25:13.24\00:25:16.16 and also here in Ezekiel 4:6 on the screen 00:25:16.19\00:25:19.59 where it says, and if you look at the context 00:25:19.62\00:25:21.66 it's speaking about time prophecy. 00:25:21.69\00:25:24.54 Where is says, "I have appointed thee 00:25:24.57\00:25:26.90 each day for a year." 00:25:26.93\00:25:30.21 So in time prophecy one prophetic day 00:25:30.24\00:25:33.94 represents simply one year. 00:25:33.97\00:25:38.56 Are you with me? 00:25:38.59\00:25:39.92 "I have appointed thee each day for a year." 00:25:39.95\00:25:43.09 So one prophetic day represents one literal year. 00:25:43.12\00:25:47.19 So we're looking at the seventy week prophecy. 00:25:47.22\00:25:49.57 Let's do some calculating. 00:25:49.60\00:25:52.00 We're gonna break it down into day. 00:25:52.03\00:25:53.32 Seventy weeks, of course in a week 00:25:53.35\00:25:54.98 there are seven days 00:25:55.01\00:25:56.15 and that's why we are multiplying 70 by 7. 00:25:56.18\00:26:00.46 And 70 times 7 give's us 490 prophetic days, okay. 00:26:00.49\00:26:07.52 Or what? 490 literal years. 00:26:07.55\00:26:14.49 And what does this is relate to? 00:26:14.52\00:26:16.95 To the people of God. 00:26:16.98\00:26:19.82 God was giving them from the time of Daniel 00:26:19.85\00:26:22.58 another 490 years. 00:26:22.61\00:26:25.16 I ask you, how patience is God with us and with His people. 00:26:25.19\00:26:30.63 Extremely patience. He is extremely patience. 00:26:30.66\00:26:34.22 I mean, after all of this horrible history 00:26:34.25\00:26:37.76 He was still willing to give them time 00:26:37.79\00:26:40.98 by the by His grace to work this all out. 00:26:41.01\00:26:43.85 I'm always working out by grace, I hope you know that. 00:26:43.88\00:26:48.25 He is so abundantly patient. 00:26:48.28\00:26:51.69 And, my friend, He's been so patient with you. 00:26:51.72\00:26:54.01 He's been patient with me. 00:26:54.04\00:26:56.05 And maybe for some of us 00:26:56.08\00:26:57.32 He's been patiently waiting for years 00:26:57.35\00:27:02.12 for us to come to the light. 00:27:02.15\00:27:04.71 God has a purpose for your life, my friend. 00:27:04.74\00:27:07.98 He's got a purpose for my life in this. 00:27:08.01\00:27:11.34 It's not just a intellectualizes. 00:27:11.37\00:27:15.50 It's to lead us into that which says, 00:27:15.53\00:27:18.65 I'm gonna put it. 00:27:18.68\00:27:19.86 It's gonna give us more meaning in our lives 00:27:19.89\00:27:23.10 than we've ever known. 00:27:23.13\00:27:25.42 And it will give us a sense of direction 00:27:25.45\00:27:28.35 and a sense of the future that God has. 00:27:28.38\00:27:31.60 Again that's why we are in a prophecy. 00:27:31.63\00:27:33.10 So, 490 years. 00:27:33.13\00:27:35.50 But, you know, as we look at these time prophecies 00:27:35.53\00:27:37.56 we must have a starting point, right, 00:27:37.59\00:27:40.11 or else we just have 490 years. 00:27:40.14\00:27:41.91 I don't know when it begins so I don't know when it ends. 00:27:41.94\00:27:45.01 But the starting point is given to us in the very next verse. 00:27:45.04\00:27:47.42 Look at it, verse 25 00:27:47.45\00:27:49.41 and we have another part of the time prophecy 00:27:49.44\00:27:52.87 in it as well. 00:27:52.90\00:27:54.23 It says, "So you are to know 00:27:54.26\00:27:56.23 and discern that from the issuing," 00:27:56.26\00:27:58.50 from is the key word, 00:27:58.53\00:27:59.90 "from the issuing of a decree to restore 00:27:59.93\00:28:02.80 and rebuild Jerusalem until the Messiah the Prince 00:28:02.83\00:28:06.86 there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks," 00:28:06.89\00:28:09.88 added up that 69 weeks. 00:28:09.91\00:28:12.77 It's a part of the seventy week prophecy, 00:28:12.80\00:28:14.68 "it will be built again, with plaza and moat, 00:28:14.71\00:28:18.14 even in times of distress." 00:28:18.17\00:28:21.54 So we have 69 weeks of prophetic time. 00:28:21.57\00:28:23.44 But notice, it says, "from the issuing of a decree 00:28:23.47\00:28:27.23 to restore and rebuild Jerusalem." 00:28:27.26\00:28:32.42 From the issuing of a decree. 00:28:32.45\00:28:34.27 And we know that decree was issued in 457 BC 00:28:34.30\00:28:40.53 by the Persian King Artaxerxes that decree. 00:28:40.56\00:28:45.20 We have that decree recorded in the Bible 00:28:45.23\00:28:48.13 you'll find it in Ezra Chapter 7. 00:28:48.16\00:28:50.95 You'll find the decree listed right there in Ezra Chapter 7. 00:28:50.98\00:28:55.48 And this is a well established date. 00:28:55.51\00:28:57.98 So 457 is the starting point of the time prophecies. 00:28:58.01\00:29:02.89 So let's deal with the 70 weeks prophecy. 00:29:02.92\00:29:05.39 First of all since that's what we came to 00:29:05.42\00:29:07.54 we know as 490 years and the starting point 00:29:07.57\00:29:11.45 they're found from 457-490 years takes us down to 34 AD. 00:29:11.48\00:29:18.69 By the way Jesus died in 31 AD. 00:29:18.72\00:29:22.35 God was really patient with them as I said. 00:29:22.38\00:29:25.48 And by the way I should point out some thing 00:29:25.51\00:29:27.58 because whenever you do these calculations 00:29:27.61\00:29:30.63 and you're moving from BC to AD time, 00:29:30.66\00:29:33.86 there's something you have to take in consideration 00:29:33.89\00:29:35.67 if you want to be accurate in your calculation. 00:29:35.70\00:29:38.34 So as you're moving in BC times as you look back, 00:29:38.37\00:29:40.84 you know, let's, you know, 457. 00:29:40.87\00:29:42.75 What's the next year? Was it 458-456? 00:29:42.78\00:29:46.33 What is it? 00:29:46.36\00:29:48.39 456, you're right followed by 455 then 450-- 00:29:48.42\00:29:52.91 you're with me. 00:29:52.94\00:29:54.29 Okay, as you're moving, 00:29:54.32\00:29:55.50 as you're moving down 490 years. 00:29:55.53\00:29:57.09 If you were just take one year at a time account them, okay. 00:29:57.12\00:29:59.65 457 is one, 456 is two, 455 is three 00:29:59.68\00:30:04.18 you would eventually come down to the year 1 BC. 00:30:04.21\00:30:08.44 What's the next year? 00:30:08.47\00:30:10.29 And there's no year zero, 1 AD. 00:30:10.32\00:30:14.34 So, you go when you go from BC to AD time, 00:30:14.37\00:30:17.67 we have two 1s. 00:30:17.70\00:30:19.03 We go from 1 BC to 1 AD. 00:30:19.06\00:30:21.69 Which means when you make out 00:30:21.72\00:30:23.13 your calculation 490 years from 457, 00:30:23.16\00:30:26.32 you're actually the calculation you would end up will be 33. 00:30:26.35\00:30:31.61 So you have to add that extra 1 back in. 00:30:31.64\00:30:34.43 You didn't know you're gonna get 00:30:34.46\00:30:35.49 so much math tonight, did you? 00:30:35.52\00:30:37.87 You have to add that extra 1 back in to be accurate. 00:30:37.90\00:30:42.39 And so it's 34 AD. 00:30:42.42\00:30:44.84 And, my friend, that is when probation came to an end 00:30:44.87\00:30:48.34 for the Nation of Israel. 00:30:48.37\00:30:51.27 Now next Saturday night, 00:30:51.30\00:30:53.26 I'm gonna be preaching on the 144,000 00:30:53.29\00:30:55.60 and we're gonna be talking about 00:30:55.63\00:30:56.82 God's purpose for the Jews in the end time. 00:30:56.85\00:30:58.63 We're gonna be talking about tribulation. 00:30:58.66\00:31:00.55 We're gonna be talking about the antichrist 00:31:00.58\00:31:02.16 that night as well. 00:31:02.19\00:31:05.62 So anyway we'll talk a little bit more 00:31:05.65\00:31:07.74 but it does relate to the prophecy 00:31:07.77\00:31:09.36 that we're looking at. 00:31:09.39\00:31:10.57 In verse 25, we have 69 weeks of prophetic time 00:31:10.60\00:31:14.04 that relate to what? To the coming of whom? 00:31:14.07\00:31:18.71 To the coming of Jesus. 00:31:18.74\00:31:21.15 And again as we look at the time, 00:31:21.18\00:31:23.63 time element 69 weeks 00:31:23.66\00:31:25.68 we're gonna get it break it down into days again. 00:31:25.71\00:31:27.65 So we're multiplying it 00:31:27.68\00:31:30.04 by 7 and 69 times 7 gives us 483 prophetic days 00:31:30.07\00:31:37.56 or 483 literal years. 00:31:37.59\00:31:40.94 And we've already got our starting point. 00:31:40.97\00:31:43.62 We have our starting point, don't we? 00:31:43.65\00:31:45.28 It's 457 AD. 00:31:45.31\00:31:48.01 And due to calculation out it takes us to 27 AD. 00:31:48.04\00:31:53.69 Remember, we have to add that extra 1 in right, 00:31:53.72\00:31:57.78 27 AD to the messianic, friends. 00:31:57.81\00:32:00.98 It isn't that fascinating to find a prophecy here that-- 00:32:01.01\00:32:06.58 what is it over 400 years before the coming of Jesus, 00:32:06.61\00:32:09.82 the predicted the date for the coming of Jesus 00:32:09.85\00:32:12.91 and its right in the Old Testament. 00:32:12.94\00:32:15.73 I mean, that is predicted prophecy in through the years. 00:32:15.76\00:32:21.03 And so, I want you to notice something as we're working 00:32:21.06\00:32:22.98 through the context verse 24 it's messianic. 00:32:23.01\00:32:26.00 Verse 25, it's talking about the Messiah, 00:32:26.03\00:32:29.26 coming of the Messiah 00:32:29.29\00:32:30.32 the Prince talking about the coming of Jesus. 00:32:30.35\00:32:33.10 My friend, He is the focal point of history. 00:32:33.13\00:32:37.83 He is the focal point of history. 00:32:37.86\00:32:39.82 So what happened in 27 AD? 00:32:39.85\00:32:42.23 Take a look with me at Luke 3, 00:32:42.26\00:32:45.96 the New Testament, page 46. 00:32:45.99\00:32:48.26 Page 46 Luke 3, and beginning with verse 21. 00:32:48.29\00:32:53.91 And I'll say right off the top it was not the birth of Jesus 00:32:53.94\00:32:58.29 because Jesus was not born in 27 AD 00:32:58.32\00:33:00.59 but something else important happened here 00:33:00.62\00:33:03.57 as we find it in here Luke 3 and beginning with verse 21. 00:33:03.60\00:33:08.49 This is what happened in 27 AD, 27 AD. 00:33:08.52\00:33:13.16 It says, "Now when all the people were baptized, 00:33:13.19\00:33:16.17 Jesus was also baptized and while He was praying, 00:33:16.20\00:33:18.91 heaven was opened. 00:33:18.94\00:33:20.67 And the Holy Spirit descended upon Him 00:33:20.70\00:33:22.55 in bodily form like a dove, 00:33:22.58\00:33:24.62 and a voice came out of heaven, 00:33:24.65\00:33:26.42 'You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased."' 00:33:26.45\00:33:32.36 It was the baptism of Jesus that took place in 27 AD. 00:33:32.39\00:33:36.46 And by the way when we talk about the Messiah, 00:33:36.49\00:33:38.64 again remember the name Messiah 00:33:38.67\00:33:42.33 means literally the anointed one. 00:33:42.36\00:33:46.52 And I believe you can make a case for the fact 00:33:46.55\00:33:49.25 that it was at His baptism 00:33:49.28\00:33:51.01 when the Holy Spirit came down upon Him 00:33:51.04\00:33:53.53 that He was anointed 00:33:53.56\00:33:55.24 and that He was set apart to proceed with the next 00:33:55.27\00:33:58.54 three-and-half years of His ministry. 00:33:58.57\00:34:02.15 Okay, but notice verse 23. 00:34:02.18\00:34:05.48 "When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was," how old? 00:34:05.51\00:34:11.41 "About thirty years of age." 00:34:11.44\00:34:14.51 Have you ever considered the wasted years of Jesus. 00:34:14.54\00:34:20.25 Think of all of the good He could have been doing. 00:34:20.28\00:34:23.95 You know, I have two wonderful sons 00:34:23.98\00:34:25.99 and I do love them. 00:34:26.02\00:34:27.84 I assume you love your kids. 00:34:27.87\00:34:30.72 You know, we all have problems, 00:34:30.75\00:34:32.55 we'll have challenges, right. 00:34:32.58\00:34:33.97 We have them, our kids sometimes have them. 00:34:34.00\00:34:35.90 But I love my sons. 00:34:35.93\00:34:38.03 And but I still have my older son at 27, 00:34:38.06\00:34:45.97 that he's still somewhat living at home. 00:34:46.00\00:34:49.79 And so and my wife 00:34:49.82\00:34:51.00 and I will have these conversations from time to time. 00:34:51.03\00:34:53.89 And Thursday night we have them over for dinner. 00:34:53.92\00:34:56.34 At least they seem to enjoy to come, 00:34:56.37\00:34:58.72 come over enjoy some of mom's good, 00:34:58.75\00:35:01.43 home cooking. 00:35:01.46\00:35:02.49 And so we did, we have mashed potatoes and gravy, 00:35:02.52\00:35:05.59 they love mashed potatoes and gravy. 00:35:05.62\00:35:08.27 And she made some brownies for a treat. 00:35:08.30\00:35:11.44 And they actually stayed and visited with us for a while. 00:35:11.47\00:35:16.87 And then they were gone 00:35:16.90\00:35:17.96 and we found ourselves in conversation again. 00:35:17.99\00:35:21.81 You know, 27. 00:35:21.84\00:35:23.75 And, my son, my son, my older son I'll tell him, 00:35:23.78\00:35:27.96 you know, it's not hard to get me talking about my boys 00:35:27.99\00:35:30.78 but they're not my boys, they're my young man now. 00:35:30.81\00:35:33.82 My 24-year-old Kevin, he is a people person. 00:35:33.85\00:35:37.36 He's just got this mellowness, kind of like Gayle. 00:35:37.39\00:35:40.68 This mellowness, people love Kevin. 00:35:40.71\00:35:45.36 He is just great working with people. 00:35:45.39\00:35:48.58 He is. 00:35:48.61\00:35:50.04 He just interacts so well with people. 00:35:50.07\00:35:51.93 They just love him at whatever job he has. 00:35:51.96\00:35:55.35 They just love him. 00:35:55.38\00:35:57.50 And that makes me feel very good. 00:35:57.53\00:35:58.63 I like the fact that people really love my son, Kevin. 00:35:58.66\00:36:01.40 Now my oldest, my oldest has a good personality too 00:36:01.43\00:36:04.16 but my oldest son is brilliant. 00:36:04.19\00:36:08.35 You know, I'll tell you anybody 00:36:08.38\00:36:10.33 that can go through their high school years 00:36:10.36\00:36:12.14 and Kevin say to me, 00:36:12.17\00:36:14.32 "Dad, I never cracked a book out of class." 00:36:14.35\00:36:17.59 I think it's straight A's, I can tell you that. 00:36:17.62\00:36:19.62 But got straight A's through geometry 00:36:19.65\00:36:23.28 never having cracked a book out of class. 00:36:23.31\00:36:26.88 To me has a high degree of intelligence. 00:36:26.91\00:36:29.50 I, who struggled with geometry 00:36:29.53\00:36:32.49 all those fractions and theorems anybody else relate to that. 00:36:32.52\00:36:37.12 I hated geometry, it almost took me down. 00:36:37.15\00:36:40.61 Now algebra I did all right with 00:36:40.64\00:36:43.29 but geometry was tough. He got straight A's. 00:36:43.32\00:36:46.03 And he dig it into the, 00:36:46.06\00:36:48.34 you know, he went into the community college 00:36:48.37\00:36:50.65 and took a business course and one day this years ago, 00:36:50.68\00:36:54.21 some years ago I saw him looking 00:36:54.24\00:36:56.80 reading through his text books, 00:36:56.83\00:36:58.45 sitting in an easy chair just reading. 00:36:58.48\00:37:01.62 And I found that he had a test. 00:37:01.65\00:37:05.65 One of the few times, I never seen him study. 00:37:05.68\00:37:08.06 He was reading though, he was reading. 00:37:08.09\00:37:10.47 And when he took his test, 00:37:10.50\00:37:11.87 now when I studied for test I was underlining, 00:37:11.90\00:37:14.59 I was taking notes, 00:37:14.62\00:37:15.81 I was going over my notes making sure 00:37:15.84\00:37:17.94 I was memorizing certain things that aren't-- 00:37:17.97\00:37:21.52 is that the way it is for most of us? 00:37:21.55\00:37:23.24 He just have read the text. 00:37:23.27\00:37:25.15 The teacher even didn't really know him 00:37:25.18\00:37:28.05 because when she got he got done grading the test 00:37:28.08\00:37:31.85 and bought the back to the class. 00:37:31.88\00:37:34.55 He was looking for David. 00:37:34.58\00:37:37.18 Is David Reinking here? 00:37:37.21\00:37:39.97 And said, David, you got the highest score on the test. 00:37:40.00\00:37:45.29 And all he did was to read the textbook. 00:37:45.32\00:37:49.16 He has almost a photographic mind. 00:37:49.19\00:37:52.32 It's a wonderful thing and of course 00:37:52.35\00:37:54.09 he got it from my side of the family. 00:37:54.12\00:37:57.54 And I wish I could say that. 00:37:57.57\00:37:59.70 And really if you see something 00:37:59.73\00:38:01.15 or he hears something he has a very high retention, 00:38:01.18\00:38:04.65 that's a beautiful thing to have, isn't it. 00:38:04.68\00:38:07.22 Man, I could have used that with all the schooling I had. 00:38:07.25\00:38:10.58 I had a sweat through it all. 00:38:10.61\00:38:13.45 It didn't come always easily, hardly ever came easily. 00:38:13.48\00:38:17.98 And so I'm no fore pointing 00:38:18.01\00:38:19.47 I'm just gonna get that out right upfront. 00:38:19.50\00:38:22.92 And I really related to President Bush 00:38:22.95\00:38:25.91 when in a graduation, 00:38:25.94\00:38:27.69 you know, I've been asked to speak 00:38:27.72\00:38:29.42 at a graduation exercise at some famous university 00:38:29.45\00:38:33.07 who looked out among the multitudes of students 00:38:33.10\00:38:36.92 that were graduating. 00:38:36.95\00:38:38.61 And smiles saying, 00:38:38.64\00:38:40.13 you know, I'm gonna paraphrase it now. 00:38:40.16\00:38:43.57 I'm a testament that you see students, 00:38:43.60\00:38:47.47 you too can succeed in life. 00:38:47.50\00:38:51.81 I probably relate more to that then those who are so brilliant. 00:38:51.84\00:38:55.93 But, you know, so if we've had these conversations. 00:38:55.96\00:38:59.69 What are they gonna do? 00:38:59.72\00:39:01.26 When are they gonna start? I mean, by 22-23, 00:39:01.29\00:39:05.26 I had finished my undergraduate degree 00:39:05.29\00:39:07.32 I was already in the ministry. 00:39:07.35\00:39:09.14 I can't believe they turned us-- 00:39:09.17\00:39:10.76 they turned us loose at 23 Gayle. 00:39:10.79\00:39:14.43 Can you image that? 00:39:14.46\00:39:16.86 At the time I thought 23, man, 00:39:16.89\00:39:18.92 and you know, I'm passed 21 00:39:18.95\00:39:21.68 I'm into educate, I'm ready to hit the road 00:39:21.71\00:39:24.13 and started doing to preach. 00:39:24.16\00:39:25.71 I didn't realize how green I really was. 00:39:25.74\00:39:28.76 But anyway I wonder I'm gonna little bit away 00:39:28.79\00:39:32.22 from notes here but anyway 00:39:32.25\00:39:35.15 I wonder what Mary must have been thinking, 28. 00:39:35.18\00:39:40.01 He's still in the carpenter shop. 00:39:40.04\00:39:43.56 That angel did come to me, right. 00:39:43.59\00:39:45.64 I do remember that, right. 00:39:45.67\00:39:48.03 And said that he's the Son of God, 29, 00:39:48.06\00:39:52.28 still in the carpenter shop. 00:39:52.31\00:39:55.03 I'm wondering if they had those kinds of thoughts. 00:39:55.06\00:40:00.54 Probably, but then at 30, 00:40:00.57\00:40:02.47 then when this one that it really took off. 00:40:02.50\00:40:04.41 Boy, sure it happens before 30. 00:40:04.44\00:40:06.91 From my standpoint by the time 00:40:08.42\00:40:10.59 that I retire and that's-- 00:40:10.62\00:40:12.65 you know, few years down the road yet, 00:40:12.68\00:40:15.05 I just hope that this is subtle matter in my home. 00:40:15.08\00:40:18.33 Now I just anyway-- 00:40:18.36\00:40:19.88 I'm sorry to bring up all these personal matters 00:40:19.91\00:40:21.69 but anyway I was just wonder 00:40:21.72\00:40:22.84 how much Mary and Joseph as long as they loved 00:40:22.87\00:40:25.84 had these questions about him. 00:40:25.87\00:40:29.00 So, out in the Messiah the Prince 00:40:29.03\00:40:30.54 but there was a reason, 00:40:30.57\00:40:31.79 actually there was a reason 00:40:31.82\00:40:33.01 why Jesus waited so long 00:40:33.04\00:40:36.03 before he began his earthly ministry. 00:40:36.06\00:40:39.47 We find in Mark 1:14-15. 00:40:39.50\00:40:42.06 This is what Jesus was preached, 00:40:42.09\00:40:43.40 at the very beginning of His ministry. 00:40:43.43\00:40:45.45 It says, "Jesus came into Galilee, 00:40:45.48\00:40:47.94 preaching the gospel of God, 00:40:47.97\00:40:49.51 and saying, 'The time is fulfilled, 00:40:49.54\00:40:52.64 and the kingdom of God is at hand."' 00:40:52.67\00:40:54.70 Amen. 00:40:54.73\00:40:56.00 My friend, the reason why Jesus had waited so long. 00:40:56.03\00:40:59.12 Is that He had an understanding 00:40:59.15\00:41:01.25 and a comprehension and the very prophecy 00:41:01.28\00:41:03.67 that we're looking at in Daniel 9:25. 00:41:03.70\00:41:06.33 He did, I'm gonna show you 00:41:06.36\00:41:08.68 that He was acquainted 00:41:08.71\00:41:09.74 with these prophecies of Daniel 9. 00:41:09.77\00:41:13.28 And so when 27 AD came, 00:41:13.31\00:41:16.06 He knew this was the appointed time. 00:41:16.09\00:41:20.05 And he went out proclaiming the time is fulfilled, 00:41:20.08\00:41:23.66 the time of prophecy is fulfilled. 00:41:23.69\00:41:28.43 And then, we move into the next verse. 00:41:28.46\00:41:32.59 Oh, we got to go back to Daniel 9. 00:41:32.62\00:41:34.95 The next verse being Daniel 9:26. 00:41:34.98\00:41:37.74 It says, "then after the sixty-two weeks," 00:41:37.77\00:41:41.13 that prophetic time of verse 25. 00:41:41.16\00:41:43.49 "The messiah will be cut off," 00:41:43.52\00:41:46.19 it's predicting the death of Jesus. 00:41:46.22\00:41:48.57 That language is in Isaiah 53, 00:41:48.60\00:41:51.35 it's reference to the suffering Christ 00:41:51.38\00:41:54.29 where it speaks of his being cut off 00:41:54.32\00:41:56.33 from the land of the living 00:41:56.36\00:41:57.95 is the terminology there in Isaiah 53. 00:41:57.98\00:42:00.55 It's a reference to his death, 00:42:00.58\00:42:02.19 so it predicts His death, 00:42:02.22\00:42:03.58 of course we owe everything 00:42:03.61\00:42:05.42 to the substitutionary death of Jesus, don't we. 00:42:05.45\00:42:09.44 Everything. 00:42:09.47\00:42:10.93 And I'm starting we have a connection. 00:42:10.96\00:42:13.73 And have nothing, "and the people of the prince 00:42:13.76\00:42:16.84 who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. 00:42:16.87\00:42:23.57 And its end will come with a flood, 00:42:23.60\00:42:25.35 even to the end there will be war, 00:42:25.38\00:42:28.34 desolations are determined." 00:42:28.37\00:42:31.53 I can't just imagine how Daniel must have felt 00:42:31.56\00:42:34.35 when he heard those words here, 00:42:34.38\00:42:35.95 he's praying for the restoration 00:42:35.98\00:42:37.35 and the city and of the sanctuary. 00:42:37.38\00:42:39.99 And now, you know, having heard of the prophecy 00:42:40.02\00:42:41.87 about the coming of the Messiah 00:42:41.90\00:42:42.99 the Prince that must have been exciting to hear that. 00:42:43.02\00:42:45.87 Because he knew something 00:42:45.90\00:42:46.93 about the coming of the savior 00:42:46.96\00:42:48.56 but then they hear that the city 00:42:48.59\00:42:51.57 and the sanctuary and having been rebuild 00:42:51.60\00:42:54.83 would be destroyed again. 00:42:54.86\00:42:57.74 By the way for much the same reason 00:42:57.77\00:42:59.47 as why have been destroyed in the first place. 00:42:59.50\00:43:02.95 Because they've hardened their heart against him. 00:43:02.98\00:43:06.03 And in the end as a nation they rejected him. 00:43:06.06\00:43:10.50 The source of all salvation. 00:43:10.53\00:43:13.11 That was horrible consequences. 00:43:13.14\00:43:15.58 So it would be destroyed again, 00:43:15.61\00:43:17.97 the city that would be rebuilt. 00:43:18.00\00:43:22.97 And as Jesus come down to the end 00:43:23.00\00:43:25.88 of His earthly ministry as He begins prophetically. 00:43:25.91\00:43:32.63 Again some of those astounding prophecies 00:43:32.66\00:43:34.23 of the Bible are words 00:43:34.26\00:43:36.94 that are embedded in the gospels 00:43:36.97\00:43:39.19 that came from Jesus Himself, Matthew 24, 00:43:39.22\00:43:42.18 Luke 21 of their passages hat record these prophecies. 00:43:42.21\00:43:45.69 These prophecies that were made 00:43:45.72\00:43:47.48 in the last week of His earthly ministry, 00:43:47.51\00:43:51.20 the cross was just before Him. 00:43:51.23\00:43:53.59 He was looking down to the end of time. 00:43:53.62\00:43:56.53 He's looking forward to His coming. 00:43:56.56\00:44:00.32 And He also begin to pickup on these prophetic themes 00:44:00.35\00:44:03.18 that were reading here in Daniel 9. 00:44:03.21\00:44:05.40 And Luke 19 verse beginning with verse 43 00:44:05.43\00:44:07.80 Jesus declared, "For the days," 00:44:07.83\00:44:09.69 He's looking at Jerusalem. 00:44:09.72\00:44:10.82 "For the days shall come upon you 00:44:10.85\00:44:13.80 when your enemies will throw up a bank before you, 00:44:13.83\00:44:17.35 and surround you, and hem you in on every side, 00:44:17.38\00:44:20.15 and will level you to the ground 00:44:20.18\00:44:21.86 and your children within you, 00:44:21.89\00:44:23.54 and they will not leave in you 00:44:23.57\00:44:25.10 one stone upon another, 00:44:25.13\00:44:26.72 because you did not recognize 00:44:26.75\00:44:29.06 the time of your visitation." 00:44:29.09\00:44:33.22 Was that talking about the time of your visitation? 00:44:33.25\00:44:35.68 That is the time of His coming. 00:44:35.71\00:44:38.63 And, my friend, they should have known 00:44:38.66\00:44:42.03 the whole Old Testament, 00:44:42.06\00:44:43.88 there's all these messianic prophecies 00:44:43.91\00:44:45.90 including the prophecies 00:44:45.93\00:44:47.64 we're looking at tonight in Daniel 9. 00:44:47.67\00:44:51.25 And you see, my friend, 00:44:51.28\00:44:52.47 they were not faithful students of the prophecies. 00:44:52.50\00:44:57.32 And those that they did interpret 00:44:57.35\00:44:59.38 they often were misinterpreting. 00:44:59.41\00:45:02.83 And that tells me how vitally important it is 00:45:02.86\00:45:06.20 for us as believers having understanding the prophecy. 00:45:06.23\00:45:09.88 We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes that they did it. 00:45:09.91\00:45:13.24 When they didn't recognize the time of their visitation. 00:45:13.27\00:45:16.33 And, my friend let me tell you 00:45:16.36\00:45:17.50 there's another divine visitation just before us. 00:45:17.53\00:45:21.21 Again I don't know, if it's gonna be in our life times. 00:45:21.24\00:45:23.47 But Jesus gonna visit this planet again. 00:45:23.50\00:45:27.29 And we cannot afford to ignore the prophecies 00:45:27.32\00:45:29.54 that predict the coming of Jesus. 00:45:29.57\00:45:32.32 This is not gonna go on and on. 00:45:32.35\00:45:34.31 And Luke 21:20 and Luke 21:20-21. 00:45:34.34\00:45:39.33 Jesus said, "But when you see 00:45:39.36\00:45:40.80 Jerusalem surrounded by armies, 00:45:40.83\00:45:43.00 then recognize that her desolation is at hand." 00:45:43.03\00:45:45.99 Let me say what is desolation. 00:45:46.02\00:45:47.69 He was quoting directly 00:45:47.72\00:45:51.70 it's the very word we saw there, 00:45:51.73\00:45:53.39 desolations are determined. 00:45:53.42\00:45:55.27 "Then let those who are in Judea flee 00:45:55.30\00:45:57.21 and let those who are in the city depart." 00:45:57.24\00:45:59.96 It's going to be sign to you, 00:45:59.99\00:46:01.73 he said to his people. 00:46:01.76\00:46:03.54 When you see this happening, 00:46:03.57\00:46:05.84 you know, it's time to get out. 00:46:05.87\00:46:07.91 And, my friend, we see the signs 00:46:07.94\00:46:09.56 of the times being fulfilled in the end time. 00:46:09.59\00:46:11.50 We know the time is near. 00:46:11.53\00:46:14.13 And by the grace of Jesus, 00:46:14.16\00:46:15.92 we will be ready, won't we? 00:46:15.95\00:46:17.71 We're gonna be ready by the grace of Jesus. 00:46:17.74\00:46:19.69 We're gonna trust Him in this. 00:46:19.72\00:46:22.23 We truly are. 00:46:22.26\00:46:23.54 And indeed it did happen, 00:46:23.57\00:46:25.00 you know, the destruction 00:46:25.03\00:46:26.39 of Jerusalem in the sanctuary 00:46:26.42\00:46:27.45 that have been restored, it happened. 00:46:27.48\00:46:29.91 And on either August 29 or August 30 of 70 AD. 00:46:29.94\00:46:34.85 I'm gonna give you a little bit 00:46:34.88\00:46:35.91 of the historical background to all of this. 00:46:35.94\00:46:37.84 There was this rebellion 00:46:37.87\00:46:39.41 that broke out among the Jews 00:46:39.44\00:46:41.90 after the death of Jesus is called, 00:46:41.93\00:46:44.87 it's Jewish Revolt of 66 AD-- stretched from 66-70 AD. 00:46:44.90\00:46:52.06 Nero was emperor in Rome. 00:46:52.09\00:46:55.51 News reaches the capital. 00:46:55.54\00:46:57.51 The Jews are in revolt and they are determined 00:46:57.54\00:47:00.92 that they're gonna throw off their head 00:47:00.95\00:47:02.25 and yoke of the Romans. 00:47:02.28\00:47:04.60 And so in 67, 00:47:04.63\00:47:06.50 when--was received the Roman 67 AD 00:47:06.53\00:47:09.64 Nero appoints Vespasian 00:47:09.67\00:47:13.31 to put down the rebellion by the way. 00:47:13.34\00:47:17.34 Josephus, we call in the Jewish historian 00:47:17.37\00:47:20.22 actually was Jewish general. 00:47:20.25\00:47:23.87 That was defeated by the Roman forces 00:47:23.90\00:47:26.93 that came down to put down the revolt. 00:47:26.96\00:47:30.45 But he had pro-Roman legions. 00:47:30.48\00:47:35.07 And he was kept in the cabinet of the Romans. 00:47:35.10\00:47:37.92 He--I mean, they were many battles 00:47:37.95\00:47:39.57 that were fought, it didn't 00:47:39.60\00:47:40.63 just happen at Jerusalem 00:47:40.66\00:47:42.14 that you know they were fighting 00:47:42.17\00:47:43.42 all the way on down to Jerusalem. 00:47:43.45\00:47:45.83 And so he was defeated 00:47:45.86\00:47:46.89 and he ended up with those Roman forces 00:47:46.92\00:47:50.84 before the gates of the city of Jerusalem. 00:47:50.87\00:47:53.92 And he records in his-- and we have it. 00:47:53.95\00:47:57.52 Usually I have a nice thick copy of it for those 00:47:57.55\00:48:00.86 who like to buy it if they want to study this period of time. 00:48:00.89\00:48:03.95 If you like me, I love history. 00:48:03.98\00:48:05.93 So you're get little bit 00:48:05.96\00:48:06.99 of the history before we're done. 00:48:07.02\00:48:08.05 Josephus records these things as I said it was Nero 00:48:08.08\00:48:10.99 that was emperor in Rome. 00:48:11.02\00:48:13.19 And it was Vespasian here he is, 00:48:13.22\00:48:15.14 we didn't have photographs back in that time. 00:48:15.17\00:48:16.69 But they should, they did some really 00:48:16.72\00:48:18.09 beautiful work in stone, didn't they? 00:48:18.12\00:48:20.57 You know, you see all the facial features 00:48:20.60\00:48:23.06 of these renowned men of old. 00:48:23.09\00:48:26.31 And Vespasian was given 00:48:26.34\00:48:28.24 Roman soldiers 00:48:28.27\00:48:31.90 in fact there were legions already in Syria. 00:48:31.93\00:48:35.60 They were preparing for an expedition into the east, 00:48:35.63\00:48:40.19 is what Nero had been preparing for. 00:48:40.22\00:48:42.47 So they took these forces and all the supplies 00:48:42.50\00:48:45.29 and this expeditionary force of the Romans 00:48:45.32\00:48:49.63 came down from Syria to put down the Jewish Revolt. 00:48:49.66\00:48:53.93 As I said Vespasian was at the head of it. 00:48:53.96\00:48:56.56 And Titus, his son was one of his generals. 00:48:56.59\00:49:00.06 He was given the XV Apollinaris, 00:49:00.09\00:49:03.95 a legion that is the legion from Alexandria. 00:49:03.98\00:49:07.49 A legion had some 5 to 6,000 soldiers in it. 00:49:07.52\00:49:10.33 And by the way in Roman times 00:49:10.36\00:49:12.08 when you're enlisted in the army, 00:49:12.11\00:49:15.53 it was for a period of some 20 to 25 years. 00:49:15.56\00:49:20.66 You're assigning over your life 00:49:20.69\00:49:22.36 but if you have the promise of land and great riches, 00:49:22.39\00:49:26.35 you know, at the end of it or during the process of it. 00:49:26.38\00:49:29.76 Anyway so Titus, but in 69 AD, 00:49:29.79\00:49:35.70 we find that Nero dies. 00:49:35.73\00:49:38.71 And these are power vacuum 00:49:38.74\00:49:40.01 and Vespasian receives words of it, 00:49:40.04\00:49:42.56 he leads the force, he leads the several legions. 00:49:42.59\00:49:46.10 I'm forgetting how many several legions 00:49:46.13\00:49:48.54 in the command of the command of his son, Titus. 00:49:48.57\00:49:52.83 And to deal with Jerusalem 00:49:52.86\00:49:55.48 and he makes his way back to Rome, 00:49:55.51\00:49:57.04 Vespasian does and he secures 00:49:57.07\00:49:58.80 the emperorship for himself 00:49:58.83\00:50:02.59 and for his son, Titus, 00:50:02.62\00:50:04.08 they became co-emperors. 00:50:04.11\00:50:06.92 You know, just to put it 00:50:06.95\00:50:07.98 in his historical context as we're looking 00:50:08.01\00:50:09.92 at the fulfillment of this prophecy. 00:50:09.95\00:50:12.89 And, you know, it's all recorded 00:50:12.92\00:50:16.14 the out of defenses of the city were breached. 00:50:16.17\00:50:19.63 The Jewish defenders made their way to the Temple Mount, 00:50:19.66\00:50:23.08 it was like a fortress itself. 00:50:23.11\00:50:25.68 And Titus had given orders 00:50:25.71\00:50:28.44 that the temple was to remain intact, 00:50:28.47\00:50:31.23 the Romans in fact had been embellishing that temple. 00:50:31.26\00:50:34.65 They didn't want to destroy it 00:50:34.68\00:50:35.85 but the heat of the battle that followed. 00:50:35.88\00:50:39.03 A fire brand was thrown into the interior of the temple, 00:50:39.06\00:50:42.02 and remember the interior was lying 00:50:42.05\00:50:44.23 by the seeders of Lebanon 00:50:44.26\00:50:45.79 and overlaid with gold 00:50:45.82\00:50:46.94 and you know how that can burn. 00:50:46.97\00:50:49.35 And Josephus records how Titus 00:50:49.38\00:50:51.47 try to get to soldiers have put it out 00:50:51.50\00:50:53.09 but in the heat of the battle 00:50:53.12\00:50:54.97 he and finally he took some of his general staff 00:50:55.00\00:50:57.28 he went into the temple itself. 00:50:57.31\00:50:59.99 And he got some things out. 00:51:00.02\00:51:02.28 And the things we know historically got out, 00:51:02.31\00:51:04.11 he got all the gold's furniture out. 00:51:04.14\00:51:06.53 He got the Table of Shewbread out, 00:51:06.56\00:51:08.50 he got the trumpets out. 00:51:08.53\00:51:10.10 Remember the feast of trumpets 00:51:10.13\00:51:11.22 while they had trumpets. 00:51:11.25\00:51:12.57 And he got the Seven-Branch Candlestick out. 00:51:12.60\00:51:16.70 And when he finished, 00:51:16.73\00:51:18.24 when he finished this battle 00:51:18.27\00:51:20.15 and defeating the Jews. 00:51:20.18\00:51:22.38 He erected this Ark of Triumph 00:51:22.41\00:51:23.93 we would call it, at the southern approach 00:51:23.96\00:51:25.83 to the city of Rome. 00:51:25.86\00:51:27.95 The Appian way, the superhighway 00:51:27.98\00:51:29.80 of that day went right through this arches, 00:51:29.83\00:51:31.58 it still stands of the day, 00:51:31.61\00:51:33.46 you know, I took that picture 00:51:33.49\00:51:34.53 of course you can see it, 00:51:34.56\00:51:35.59 it's a little bit slided. 00:51:35.62\00:51:38.13 It still stands and you can see 00:51:38.16\00:51:40.57 on the inside of it, it shows them 00:51:40.60\00:51:42.28 coming back with some of the booty 00:51:42.31\00:51:44.26 from the defeat of the Jews, 00:51:44.29\00:51:46.35 this was a significant of military campaign. 00:51:46.38\00:51:49.96 And you see them 00:51:49.99\00:51:51.03 bringing back to Seven-Branched Candlestick. 00:51:51.06\00:51:52.93 And they used to say, 00:51:52.96\00:51:55.55 who knows what happened to it. 00:51:55.58\00:51:57.72 Except I was reading, 00:51:57.75\00:51:59.32 a book on the Emperor Justinian. 00:51:59.35\00:52:02.48 And it talks about the Constantinople 00:52:02.51\00:52:05.94 and this point 00:52:05.97\00:52:07.00 but the seat of power in Rome 00:52:07.03\00:52:09.29 has shifted to Constantinople. 00:52:09.32\00:52:11.85 And his General Belisarius had, 00:52:11.88\00:52:14.90 had a famous battle 00:52:14.93\00:52:16.85 and had defeated the Vandals. 00:52:16.88\00:52:19.34 And when he came back 00:52:19.37\00:52:20.89 Justinian had this reception 00:52:20.92\00:52:26.48 and this triumphal entry of this general. 00:52:26.51\00:52:30.44 And in the record, it talks 00:52:30.47\00:52:32.48 about how they brought out this Seven-Branched, 00:52:32.51\00:52:34.06 this was 534 now, 500 years later 00:52:34.09\00:52:36.99 brought out this Seven-Branched Candlestick. 00:52:37.02\00:52:40.45 And put it up 00:52:40.48\00:52:42.60 on in central place in their celebrations, 00:52:42.63\00:52:47.15 I think it was to be a reminder of other past victories 00:52:47.18\00:52:52.57 that other Roman generals have had. 00:52:52.60\00:52:55.40 And that's the last we know of it 00:52:55.43\00:52:56.69 and of course the last 00:52:56.72\00:52:57.87 coming back to what happened 00:52:57.90\00:52:59.44 to Jerusalem the last defenders 00:52:59.47\00:53:02.36 the last remnants of the rebellion 00:53:02.39\00:53:06.04 made their way to Masada. 00:53:06.07\00:53:09.06 And general Silva was entrusted 00:53:09.09\00:53:10.61 of putting down the famous, the famous, 00:53:10.64\00:53:14.52 you know, some 900 of them. 00:53:14.55\00:53:16.02 In fact, you can still see the today, 00:53:16.05\00:53:18.92 see right here this is the parameters. 00:53:18.95\00:53:21.05 Oh, I'm sorry, it's right here actually. 00:53:21.08\00:53:23.28 These are the parameters 00:53:23.31\00:53:24.39 of the Roman of the Romanian camp _. 00:53:24.42\00:53:28.19 And they built this ramp took a lot of effort 00:53:28.22\00:53:32.34 but they were determined us to, 00:53:32.37\00:53:34.94 you know, make an end of it. 00:53:34.97\00:53:37.16 And, of course, when they came up their all 900 00:53:37.19\00:53:39.01 they committed a suicide of these, 00:53:39.04\00:53:42.14 you know, they have been killed. 00:53:42.17\00:53:43.64 They were not gonna be taken by the Romans. 00:53:43.67\00:53:46.20 Anyway that some of the historical background. 00:53:46.23\00:53:48.86 But let me take you back to Daniel 9 00:53:48.89\00:53:51.10 as we finish this up as we wrap it up 00:53:51.13\00:53:53.07 because there's one other verse 00:53:53.10\00:53:54.22 that we must look at. 00:53:54.25\00:53:55.78 Daniel 9:27 where he says, 00:53:55.81\00:53:58.41 "And he will make a firm covenant 00:53:58.44\00:54:00.44 with many for one week." 00:54:00.47\00:54:02.41 Now there are those who are interpreting Daniel 9:27 00:54:02.44\00:54:05.54 those who teach the rapture 00:54:05.57\00:54:07.16 that this was talking now 00:54:07.19\00:54:08.27 but the antichrist is some on holly alliance. 00:54:08.30\00:54:11.49 That's gonna happen in the end time. 00:54:11.52\00:54:14.41 And, my friend, it is not what we find contextually 00:54:14.44\00:54:17.49 because verse 24 is messianic. 00:54:17.52\00:54:20.08 Verse 25 is messianic. 00:54:20.11\00:54:22.89 Verse 26 is messianic. 00:54:22.92\00:54:25.44 And verse 27 is messianic. 00:54:25.47\00:54:29.52 If we want the antichrist, 00:54:29.55\00:54:30.79 if we want tribulation in the book of Daniel, 00:54:30.82\00:54:33.75 we don't get it from Daniel 9:27. 00:54:33.78\00:54:37.79 We can get it from other passages 00:54:37.82\00:54:39.46 and scriptures of Daniel 12 00:54:39.49\00:54:40.63 and Daniel 7 and Daniel 8. 00:54:40.66\00:54:42.28 Particularly Daniel 8, 00:54:42.31\00:54:44.17 you can find the antichrist but not here. 00:54:44.20\00:54:46.24 This was talking about Jesus. 00:54:46.27\00:54:48.19 And He came and fulfillment of the covenant promises. 00:54:48.22\00:54:51.45 He came to ratify the covenant 00:54:51.48\00:54:53.68 by the spilling of His blood 00:54:53.71\00:54:55.11 on the cross of Calvary, didn't He? 00:54:55.14\00:54:57.55 "So he will make a firm covenant 00:54:57.58\00:54:58.97 with many for one week." 00:54:59.00\00:55:01.15 And, you know, the interpreted 00:55:01.18\00:55:02.44 that time has suspended between verses 26-27, 00:55:02.47\00:55:05.80 where does it indicate that? 00:55:05.83\00:55:08.17 Is mental fit the theory? 00:55:08.20\00:55:12.84 And they apply this week down 00:55:12.87\00:55:14.41 to the end of time 00:55:14.44\00:55:16.02 when the week clearly fits 00:55:16.05\00:55:18.49 between the 69 and 70th week, 00:55:18.52\00:55:22.76 that week of prophetic time at the coming on Jesus. 00:55:22.79\00:55:27.64 From 27-34 AD that's the seven years, 00:55:27.67\00:55:31.23 that's and by the way that's the only place 00:55:31.26\00:55:33.25 where you can find the seven years. 00:55:33.28\00:55:34.60 And when we discover 00:55:34.63\00:55:35.67 it has nothing to do with the rapture 00:55:35.70\00:55:37.68 that's not my subject I know. 00:55:37.71\00:55:40.15 When we understand the seven years 00:55:40.18\00:55:41.76 has nothing to do with the rapture 00:55:41.79\00:55:43.59 but it deals with Jesus coming to confirm 00:55:43.62\00:55:45.77 His covenant with the many. 00:55:45.80\00:55:47.81 Then, my friend, it really again the whole system 00:55:47.84\00:55:51.97 of belief begins to fall apart, 00:55:52.00\00:55:54.78 the seven years is not even applicable to the end times. 00:55:54.81\00:55:59.64 And certainly has some applications, 00:55:59.67\00:56:01.45 so anyway he will make it from covenant 00:56:01.48\00:56:02.87 with the many for one week. 00:56:02.90\00:56:04.69 But in the middle of the week, 00:56:04.72\00:56:06.46 he will put a stop to sacrificing grain offerings. 00:56:06.49\00:56:11.05 And they're talking about, 00:56:11.08\00:56:12.12 you know, the interpretation of restored temple 00:56:12.15\00:56:14.76 and the Antichrist will come to the restore 00:56:14.79\00:56:16.51 and temple put it and sacrifice and grain offering. 00:56:16.54\00:56:19.33 You know, my friend, 00:56:19.36\00:56:20.48 that is what Jesus did 00:56:20.51\00:56:21.64 when He came to the cross of Calvary 00:56:21.67\00:56:23.51 and fulfilled all of the prophecies 00:56:23.54\00:56:25.59 of the Old Testament that predicted 00:56:25.62\00:56:26.96 His death on the cross of Calvary. 00:56:26.99\00:56:29.99 And it was right in the middle, 00:56:30.02\00:56:31.26 in the middle of week 00:56:31.29\00:56:32.32 he would stop sacrificing grain offering. 00:56:32.35\00:56:34.61 And it was right in the middle of the week in 31 AD 00:56:34.64\00:56:37.66 that Jesus died, right. 00:56:37.69\00:56:40.58 We know that historically 00:56:40.61\00:56:42.28 all of those animal sacrifices 00:56:42.31\00:56:45.86 that were the basis of the temple system 00:56:45.89\00:56:48.15 of the Old Testament 00:56:48.18\00:56:49.39 where fulfilled in the coming of Jesus. 00:56:49.42\00:56:51.94 And so when Jesus died on the cross of Calvary, 00:56:51.97\00:56:55.32 He brought an end to sacrifice to see. 00:56:55.35\00:57:00.12 That which symbolized 00:57:00.15\00:57:02.35 and prophetically predicted 00:57:02.38\00:57:03.66 His coming was fulfilled 00:57:03.69\00:57:05.52 when in His death and so with His death. 00:57:05.55\00:57:10.52 The sacrificial system comes to an end 00:57:10.55\00:57:12.75 and so it will be at the coming 00:57:12.78\00:57:15.97 of our Lord Jesus Christ 00:57:16.00\00:57:17.52 as prophecies been fulfilled in the past, 00:57:17.55\00:57:19.89 it is going to be fulfilled in the future. 00:57:19.92\00:57:22.97 That's what the Bible tells us. 00:57:23.00\00:57:24.22 We can know this for certain. 00:57:24.25\00:57:25.85
