I am your host Jill 00:00:44.80\00:00:47.52 Morikone and we have an exciting program 00:00:47.65\00:00:49.91 planned for you today from that beautiful 00:00:49.94\00:00:52.52 island in the Caribbean, and we will hear 00:00:52.55\00:00:54.29 about that in just moment. First I want to 00:00:54.32\00:00:56.53 introduce you to my special guest. Her name 00:00:56.56\00:00:58.71 is Marlene McKinney, and she comes to us 00:00:58.74\00:01:01.03 from Upstate New York. Welcome Marlene, 00:01:01.06\00:01:03.20 we're so glad to have you here with us. 00:01:03.23\00:01:05.00 Oh! I am happy to be here, 3ABN is my 00:01:05.27\00:01:07.20 favorite channel and I would get to come here, 00:01:07.23\00:01:09.44 this is like a dream come true. Yes 00:01:09.48\00:01:11.70 Honestly it is. Well, Praise God! 00:01:11.73\00:01:13.50 We are just so happy to have you here. 00:01:13.53\00:01:15.55 You know Marlene is a good cook. 00:01:16.13\00:01:17.61 Your food is good, I mean we enjoy it, we've 00:01:19.22\00:01:20.95 been enjoying her food here. Her food is good 00:01:20.98\00:01:23.24 and she is a nutritionist, and sharing good tips 00:01:23.27\00:01:25.33 with us. So I'm real excited about the program 00:01:25.36\00:01:27.30 today. Thank you. 00:01:27.33\00:01:28.70 What island are we going to? 00:01:28.73\00:01:30.10 You are going to Nassau, Bahamas. Okay. 00:01:30.27\00:01:33.65 Have you been there. I have never been. 00:01:33.72\00:01:35.25 We are going to take you there. 00:01:35.64\00:01:37.01 That's right, I want to go. 00:01:37.04\00:01:38.41 What are you waiting on? 3ABN needs to give 00:01:38.44\00:01:40.09 you a trip down there. That's right. 00:01:40.12\00:01:41.49 I will work on that. Okay. 00:01:42.55\00:01:44.40 I will get to my people and my people get to 00:01:44.44\00:01:46.14 your people. That sounds good. 00:01:46.17\00:01:47.88 Yes, we got to work on that. 00:01:48.26\00:01:49.63 Tell me about your ministry, first of all 00:01:49.98\00:01:51.35 before we cook this Bahamian food. 00:01:51.38\00:01:53.06 Well, I am McKinney's oven, and we started 00:01:53.09\00:01:55.34 in the Bahamas about eight years ago with our 00:01:55.40\00:01:58.71 cooking schools and seminars and doing 00:01:58.80\00:02:01.82 preaching engagements, what ever it takes you 00:02:01.85\00:02:03.58 know just to get the message out there and 00:02:03.61\00:02:06.19 now we are in New York, and we travel still 00:02:06.22\00:02:08.73 wherever the Lord carries us. Amen. I am very 00:02:08.76\00:02:11.57 open to his leading and wherever he takes me 00:02:11.60\00:02:14.05 I go. Yes. And so we try to do our cooking 00:02:14.08\00:02:17.12 schools, because you know the Bible says that 00:02:17.15\00:02:18.96 we should feed the people you know where 00:02:19.08\00:02:20.86 ever Jesus met with his disciples, whenever he 00:02:20.89\00:02:24.57 met with the people, he was always concerned 00:02:24.60\00:02:26.41 about feeding the people. That's right. He says 00:02:26.44\00:02:28.07 taste and see that the Lord is good. 00:02:28.27\00:02:29.88 Amen. I love that Bible verse. 00:02:29.91\00:02:32.64 You know we want to taste the food, you 00:02:32.67\00:02:34.04 know the thing is we go, you can preach, 00:02:34.07\00:02:35.44 you can teach, but people still want to know 00:02:35.47\00:02:36.84 how does the food taste. That's right. 00:02:37.23\00:02:38.99 So if you can win them by way of the taste of 00:02:39.12\00:02:41.22 the food, then I think you have them for a life 00:02:41.25\00:02:44.41 time. And to me to think too Marlene is if you 00:02:44.44\00:02:46.28 have a clear mind you are able to hear Jesus 00:02:46.31\00:02:48.29 voice speaking to you. That's the whole point. 00:02:48.32\00:02:50.04 That's the whole point. That's the whole point. 00:02:50.07\00:02:51.44 You want to be able to hear he is speaking. 00:02:52.03\00:02:54.10 Amen. And how the, you know the Holy 00:02:54.39\00:02:55.96 Spirit speaking to us. And to know where he is 00:02:55.99\00:02:59.02 leading. That's right. That's right. Otherwise 00:02:59.27\00:03:00.64 we are just driftwood and we don't want to be 00:03:00.74\00:03:04.94 drifting, wavering. That's right. We want to 00:03:04.97\00:03:07.45 know and be certain it's voice that we're 00:03:07.48\00:03:10.39 hearing. That's right. 00:03:10.42\00:03:12.28 And no one else's. So that's my ministry, that's 00:03:12.94\00:03:14.31 what we do. One of my favorite quotes from 00:03:14.34\00:03:16.12 Spirit of Prophecy Counsels on Diet and 00:03:16.50\00:03:18.92 Foods Page 20 says "of all temporal positions, 00:03:18.95\00:03:23.00 health is the most precious." Oh! Amen. 00:03:23.75\00:03:28.38 Wealth, learning and honor are dearly 00:03:28.41\00:03:31.18 purchased at the loss of health. And you know 00:03:31.28\00:03:33.68 what folks none of them can secure your 00:03:33.71\00:03:36.51 happiness when health is lacking. That's right. 00:03:36.70\00:03:39.11 I know so many people Jill. Honestly I do and 00:03:39.29\00:03:41.64 tears can come to my eyes just sharing. 00:03:41.67\00:03:43.63 Yes. All the people I've come in contact with 00:03:44.08\00:03:45.96 over the years who have been so sick, and you 00:03:46.16\00:03:49.96 know they say wow how can I get better. 00:03:49.99\00:03:52.69 Marlene, I took my health for granted, I took 00:03:53.99\00:03:56.07 two jobs, I worked morning and went to 00:03:56.10\00:03:57.94 school in the evenings, I burnt myself out, 00:03:57.97\00:03:59.91 and if I have to do it all over again, I would 00:04:00.33\00:04:02.44 never do it that way. And so I take this 00:04:02.47\00:04:04.85 opportunity to speak to the people. Let them 00:04:04.88\00:04:07.46 know you need to take your health seriously. 00:04:07.49\00:04:09.79 Amen. Don't take it for granted. Health comes 00:04:10.06\00:04:13.26 by choice, not by chance. So if you can just 00:04:13.48\00:04:17.06 take a moment, ask the Lord to lead you, 00:04:17.93\00:04:20.73 ask him to show you where he would want 00:04:21.20\00:04:23.00 you to go, and these are simple recipes, simple 00:04:23.03\00:04:26.31 tips we have been sharing and I hope that you 00:04:26.34\00:04:28.81 just embrace them. Amen. And you know 00:04:29.02\00:04:31.23 share them with your family, share them with 00:04:32.19\00:04:33.58 your friends, and just enjoy them too of 00:04:33.61\00:04:35.92 course, enjoy them. So we are kitchen wise 00:04:35.95\00:04:41.74 and it is easy, it's Bahamian, 00:04:41.77\00:04:43.68 its native to me. I love that. 00:04:43.71\00:04:45.32 So we carried our recipes with us to New 00:04:47.78\00:04:49.59 York of course. We don't leave them in the Bahamas. 00:04:49.62\00:04:51.60 That's right. Okay, and now they're going over 00:04:51.79\00:04:53.29 the world, so you can enjoy these recipes at 00:04:53.32\00:04:55.23 home too. Let's read our first recipe here. 00:04:55.26\00:04:58.31 For the Baked Peas and Rice you need two 00:04:59.47\00:05:01.38 cups brown rice; three quarter of a medium 00:05:01.41\00:05:04.75 onion, chopped; one half cup green pepper, 00:05:04.95\00:05:07.87 chopped; one stalk celery, chopped; 00:05:07.90\00:05:10.75 two teaspoons tomato paste; two tablespoons 00:05:11.41\00:05:14.68 tomato sauce; one teaspoon salt; 00:05:14.94\00:05:17.98 two teaspoons chicken style seasoning; 00:05:18.89\00:05:20.99 two teaspoons thyme leaves; four cups water; 00:05:21.66\00:05:24.83 three quarter cup kidney beans or any peas, 00:05:25.65\00:05:28.13 and one tablespoon olive oil. 00:05:28.63\00:05:30.88 That looks awesome. And simple. 00:05:33.06\00:05:34.99 Yes. And this tradition to all. 00:05:35.29\00:05:38.01 Yes, the only difference for me anyway is that 00:05:38.51\00:05:41.64 I would prefer to have pigeon peas. Okay. 00:05:41.67\00:05:43.89 And I could not find them here. In Thompsonville 00:05:44.31\00:05:47.17 I couldn't find them, but if you are in 00:05:47.31\00:05:51.23 home you can find them you know use the 00:05:51.26\00:05:53.99 pigeon peas in place of the kidney beans, 00:05:54.02\00:05:55.70 it's your choice. If kidney beans are good, 00:05:55.81\00:05:57.63 they are beautiful anyhow. They are, 00:05:58.13\00:05:59.50 they're pretty. They're so pretty. But the 00:05:59.53\00:06:02.08 pigeon peas would be my favorite. Yes. Okay, 00:06:02.29\00:06:04.67 usually we cook it on top of the stove, but I 00:06:06.18\00:06:08.15 am trying to teach moms and dads and 00:06:08.18\00:06:10.07 whoever, how they can just utilize their time 00:06:10.65\00:06:12.98 wisely, and to use our times. 00:06:13.31\00:06:15.16 We are busy. Yes, we are busy, 00:06:15.19\00:06:16.65 we are working. Some of us too working too 00:06:16.68\00:06:18.94 hard. So you can just pop everything into the 00:06:18.97\00:06:21.05 oven. Perfect. 00:06:21.08\00:06:23.12 You know, I think we can put peas and rice in 00:06:23.15\00:06:24.52 the oven, or beans and rice in the oven, 00:06:24.55\00:06:25.99 or we don't call it rice and peas. In Jamaica 00:06:26.02\00:06:28.35 they call it rice and peas; we call it peas and 00:06:28.48\00:06:30.80 rice. Okay. 00:06:31.77\00:06:33.14 'Cause we want it to be equal. We want as 00:06:33.17\00:06:35.52 many beans as rice, that's what I think that's 00:06:35.84\00:06:37.68 the idea. Okay. 00:06:37.71\00:06:39.11 So, it's easy. Good. You know and we love it. 00:06:39.68\00:06:43.50 Good. We got a big pan here. 00:06:43.53\00:06:45.30 Yes. Well, lets use the water first. Let me tell 00:06:45.43\00:06:47.83 you what you're gonna do with your water. 00:06:47.86\00:06:49.23 Slide that over. Alright. 00:06:50.26\00:06:51.70 So we're gonna let Joe get all messy. 00:06:51.74\00:06:53.71 That's right. I gotta work again huh. She wants 00:06:53.74\00:06:55.24 me to work. I will help you. 00:06:55.27\00:06:56.93 You want this here. We are going to put all 00:06:57.45\00:06:58.82 of our liquids together. Okay. We put our oil, 00:06:58.85\00:07:02.44 we have our tomato sauce. Good. And the 00:07:03.47\00:07:05.92 only reason I am putting it is because the 00:07:05.95\00:07:07.32 tomato paste sometimes even so you may have 00:07:07.35\00:07:09.09 to pour a little of that in there. You know what 00:07:09.28\00:07:10.90 why don't you pour some of your water in 00:07:10.97\00:07:12.34 there, then utilize just a little of the water left 00:07:12.37\00:07:14.74 into your dish. Yeah. Let's put the salt in there 00:07:14.77\00:07:19.19 first. Okay. Hold on. Okay, if I were 00:07:19.22\00:07:24.47 suspended in space. Alright, now you can pour 00:07:24.86\00:07:27.15 most of it in. Okay. 00:07:27.18\00:07:28.55 Now we added the salt and the chicken seasoning. 00:07:28.58\00:07:29.95 Yes, salt and chicken style oil and water, 00:07:30.07\00:07:32.65 and you can reserve a little of it so we can 00:07:33.21\00:07:34.87 dissolve our tomato paste because the tomato 00:07:34.90\00:07:36.73 paste is a little thicker, that's good, but what 00:07:36.76\00:07:38.94 happens is you don't want pieces of tomato 00:07:38.97\00:07:40.62 paste in your pigeon rice, you want it to be all 00:07:40.65\00:07:42.37 dissolved. That doesn't sound too good. 00:07:42.40\00:07:43.77 No, at all. I can use the wisk. You can use the 00:07:43.85\00:07:46.22 wisk. Yes. Oh! Yeah. 00:07:46.25\00:07:50.64 That's much better. Yes. And of course we are 00:07:51.78\00:07:54.82 using brown rice, you can use wild rice, it's all 00:07:54.85\00:07:57.67 your choice, but we don't want white rice. 00:07:57.70\00:08:00.44 Yes. Okay. We use Basmati or not. 00:08:00.89\00:08:02.93 Yes, that's good, that's good too, very tasty, 00:08:03.23\00:08:06.02 and very healthy for us. Okay. 00:08:08.96\00:08:12.86 Okay. So we pour that in there. All right. 00:08:12.89\00:08:14.85 Good, beautiful, now you can dump your rice, 00:08:18.53\00:08:19.90 what ever think we can cook. I know. Isn't that 00:08:20.78\00:08:22.40 awesome? I like that. You put your beans. 00:08:22.43\00:08:25.00 Kidney beans. And you know the water 00:08:25.03\00:08:27.61 from the beans I am using the water. 00:08:27.64\00:08:29.32 I saw that. And the water, 00:08:29.50\00:08:30.87 you see that all adds up, I should mention that. 00:08:30.90\00:08:32.68 The water from the bean, this is the tomato 00:08:33.37\00:08:38.23 sauce, the tomato paste and the oil, 00:08:38.26\00:08:39.89 it makes up that four cups of water. 00:08:40.49\00:08:42.22 Okay. So we should be careful 00:08:42.49\00:08:44.11 to add in all of the liquids together. So that 00:08:44.14\00:08:46.86 you don't have more than sufficient, you don't 00:08:46.89\00:08:48.35 want more than. Right, that makes sense. 00:08:48.38\00:08:49.78 Otherwise it becomes a little soggy, just a 00:08:50.61\00:08:53.17 little, you don't call it soggy in the Bahamas, 00:08:53.20\00:08:55.33 you call it friendly. Oh friendly. 00:08:55.36\00:08:56.88 Yes, friendly, because it sticks together. 00:08:57.16\00:08:58.64 Friend. Friend. Friend, like we're friends, 00:08:58.67\00:09:02.11 the rice gets friendly, they're sticky, 00:09:02.70\00:09:04.79 they're sticky you know it, but they don't taste 00:09:07.08\00:09:09.14 so bad, it's just that it's too sticky. You want 00:09:09.17\00:09:12.42 the friends to be close, you don't want them to 00:09:12.45\00:09:13.82 be too close, hello, alright so. And that's the 00:09:13.85\00:09:17.92 idea. And then where is my foil, I guess we 00:09:17.95\00:09:20.70 left it in the kitchen, but the idea is and that 00:09:20.73\00:09:23.62 looks good, that looks really good. 00:09:23.65\00:09:26.06 It does. And then we cover with 00:09:26.09\00:09:27.75 foil or you put it the casserole dish preferable, 00:09:27.97\00:09:30.86 because I don't like to use the foil, that's not 00:09:31.06\00:09:32.43 my preference, but you cover it nice and tight. 00:09:32.46\00:09:35.74 Yes. And you are going to bake it for two 00:09:35.87\00:09:37.76 hours. For two hours, good. That's two hours, 00:09:37.79\00:09:40.03 once it's finished you fluff, serve and that's it. 00:09:40.06\00:09:43.80 I am sure, I am positive your family is going 00:09:43.83\00:09:46.82 to enjoy it, because my family does. 00:09:46.85\00:09:49.38 And you will never know that its baked, 00:09:50.13\00:09:51.50 it comes out just as fluffy as though you 00:09:51.53\00:09:53.13 baked it on the top of the stove. 00:09:53.16\00:09:55.05 We did at 350. 350 degrees. 00:09:56.70\00:09:58.95 Okay, the magic number. You know this is a 00:09:58.98\00:10:01.14 complete meal, you know that right. 00:10:01.17\00:10:02.54 You know people this is a, 'cause its bean and 00:10:02.57\00:10:05.09 rice, it's "legumes the grain." That's right. 00:10:05.12\00:10:07.72 Now how many of us will actually just eat 00:10:07.75\00:10:09.21 rice and peas with a salad. 00:10:10.83\00:10:12.59 Right. I don't know. In the Bahamas, 00:10:12.89\00:10:14.83 but they will tell me girl, that is not a meal. 00:10:14.86\00:10:17.87 Oh, this isn't a meal. Oh no. But it is, 00:10:18.33\00:10:21.39 it's a complete, it's a complete, you 00:10:21.42\00:10:23.12 understand it's a complete dish because we 00:10:23.15\00:10:24.52 have beans and we have rice. Right. 00:10:24.55\00:10:25.92 And because of the combination of the 00:10:26.09\00:10:27.46 legumes and the grain, it becomes a complete 00:10:27.72\00:10:30.08 protein, it becomes a complete, it's a meal 00:10:30.23\00:10:32.44 with a salad. Right, with the salad. 00:10:33.01\00:10:34.38 Put some vegetables if you choose to stir fry 00:10:34.41\00:10:35.99 whatever. Use some bread too, 00:10:36.02\00:10:37.39 or we don't need that. You don't even need the 00:10:37.42\00:10:38.79 bread, I mean of course you can, but you don't 00:10:38.82\00:10:42.11 have to have it for your complete meal. 00:10:42.14\00:10:43.73 But people think that they have to have meat, 00:10:43.76\00:10:45.68 so you know may be we need to talk about 00:10:45.87\00:10:48.45 some meat I don't know. It's up to you. Yeah. 00:10:48.48\00:10:51.61 Do you think we should give them some meat? 00:10:51.65\00:10:53.02 No. Yes we can, this is in place with that and 00:10:53.57\00:10:58.06 God puts the nutrients in those beans and in 00:10:58.09\00:11:02.04 every vegetables and everything that we are 00:11:02.16\00:11:04.14 eating, that we need in our body. 00:11:04.19\00:11:06.13 Beans are great, lowers the cholesterol, 00:11:07.76\00:11:10.18 you know and we just can't go wrong. 00:11:11.02\00:11:13.35 There are, some of the antioxidants found in 00:11:14.05\00:11:17.81 those beans really stops and reverses cancer 00:11:17.84\00:11:20.73 cells from growing. Oh come on, now who 00:11:20.76\00:11:23.15 will resist that, I don't want to resist it. 00:11:23.18\00:11:25.56 That's right, we got to be eating those. 00:11:25.59\00:11:26.96 You got to be eating beans, and this is really 00:11:27.86\00:11:29.23 delicious, beside all of the nutrition stuff I 00:11:29.26\00:11:30.63 know some of us don't want to hear it, 00:11:30.66\00:11:32.03 it's really good, it's good, it tastes good. 00:11:32.06\00:11:33.43 Okay, so I hope you enjoy it at home. 00:11:33.59\00:11:35.06 At the end of the program here we are going 00:11:36.11\00:11:37.48 to show you what it looks like all baked off. 00:11:37.51\00:11:39.52 So you got to wait and stick and around and 00:11:39.78\00:11:41.15 see that. Let's go to our next recipe. Sure. 00:11:41.18\00:11:45.30 Would you like to ready that those meatballs 00:11:45.33\00:11:46.70 for us. Of course. 00:11:46.73\00:11:48.10 For our veggie meatballs, you'll need two cups 00:11:49.83\00:11:51.69 of TVP or textured vegetable protein beef 00:11:51.72\00:11:54.88 granules; four cups of water; half cup of oil; 00:11:54.91\00:11:59.45 one cup oats; a dash of cayenne pepper; 00:12:00.32\00:12:03.25 the juice of one lemon; two tablespoons of 00:12:04.26\00:12:07.69 flour; half cup of pecan meal; two tablespoons 00:12:07.76\00:12:11.45 of Bragg's liquid aminos; three cloves of 00:12:11.62\00:12:14.17 garlic, crushed; one and half tablespoons of 00:12:14.31\00:12:17.60 beef or chicken style seasoning; one and half 00:12:17.87\00:12:21.37 cups of bread crumbs; half cup of onions, 00:12:21.57\00:12:24.11 finely chopped; and half cup of green peppers, 00:12:24.36\00:12:27.51 finely chopped. For our barbecue sauce, 00:12:27.54\00:12:31.15 you will need one and half cup of fresh tomato 00:12:31.18\00:12:34.09 sauce; two tablespoons of tomato paste; 00:12:34.12\00:12:37.09 a quarter cup of molasses; one tablespoon of 00:12:37.46\00:12:40.62 honey; and four teaspoons of soy sauce. 00:12:40.65\00:12:44.36 You also need one eighth teaspoon of garlic 00:12:45.77\00:12:48.50 powder, one eighth teaspoon onion powder, 00:12:48.53\00:12:51.47 two teaspoons of lemon juice, a half teaspoon 00:12:52.00\00:12:55.06 browning sauce, and a half teaspoon 00:12:55.45\00:12:57.89 of liquid smoke. 00:12:57.92\00:12:59.29 I like this meat ball recipe because you are 00:13:01.94\00:13:03.31 making your own barbecue sauce. 00:13:03.34\00:13:04.92 Oh yeah, you can't purchase the one from the 00:13:04.98\00:13:06.97 stores, we can but there is vinegar in there. 00:13:07.00\00:13:10.46 Right. Vinegar interferes with the digestion of 00:13:10.97\00:13:13.19 nutrients, vinegar makes the bones, well I 00:13:13.52\00:13:16.94 wouldn't put a bad mark on vinegar, its better 00:13:16.97\00:13:19.68 for cleaning. Let's buy it and clean. Yeah. 00:13:19.73\00:13:23.43 Let's clean with it. You can buy it, go and buy 00:13:23.46\00:13:25.92 it, but don't internalize it, use it on the outside, 00:13:25.95\00:13:29.84 on the surface. At least use the vinegar to 00:13:29.87\00:13:31.88 clean our meats too. Okay. 00:13:31.91\00:13:33.79 But we don't eat meats anymore right people 00:13:33.82\00:13:35.26 we don't eat meats anymore. Praise the Lord 00:13:35.55\00:13:37.10 we are meat free. Okay, so we don't need to be 00:13:37.31\00:13:40.16 doing anything else except to clean with it, 00:13:40.19\00:13:42.41 but the barbecue sauce is all natural. 00:13:42.44\00:13:45.24 I like that. My mom says I don't 00:13:45.78\00:13:47.15 like barbecue sauce, I don't trust it. You can 00:13:47.18\00:13:49.25 trust mine, but she still won't eat it. She says 00:13:49.28\00:13:54.44 no no. Not too big on the barbecue sauce. 00:13:54.47\00:13:57.04 So I am hoping that she will. 00:13:57.07\00:13:58.58 Still try it, that's right. May be we can 00:13:59.19\00:14:00.79 convince her to try it. Okay, let's look at what 00:14:00.82\00:14:04.51 we do here. Well, we're going to start 00:14:04.54\00:14:05.91 with our meatball recipe. The meatball recipe 00:14:05.94\00:14:08.33 calls for the TVP. Yes, now what's TVP? 00:14:08.36\00:14:12.03 How do you texture another. 00:14:12.34\00:14:13.71 Textured vegetable protein, and of course it's 00:14:13.86\00:14:19.40 made up of soy defatted flour. Okay. 00:14:19.43\00:14:21.84 Okay. It's simple. Soy flour. Soy flour and you 00:14:21.87\00:14:24.59 know what's great about it they are going to 00:14:24.62\00:14:26.22 take whatever flavor you add. 00:14:26.25\00:14:27.62 Yes. That's perfect. So we are having a 00:14:28.06\00:14:29.81 meatball style. We may have it barbeque, 00:14:29.84\00:14:31.89 we may have it curried or we may have it 00:14:32.05\00:14:34.13 sweet and sour, it's up to you, it's whatever 00:14:34.63\00:14:36.60 you want. That's the great thing about soy, 00:14:36.63\00:14:39.68 it's so versatile. It takes on whatever flavor 00:14:39.86\00:14:43.20 you add. I love that about soy, and it's good 00:14:43.41\00:14:45.73 for us. Yeah. Okay, so firstly we take our, 00:14:45.96\00:14:49.33 water you already, we have our water, right, 00:14:50.58\00:14:52.90 and it's getting a little hot. Okay. Okay. 00:14:52.95\00:14:54.68 And then I add my granules. 00:14:55.07\00:14:57.68 Yes, now the TVP, does it come in the health 00:14:57.98\00:15:00.54 food store or the grocery store. 00:15:00.57\00:15:01.94 You can get it at both. Good. Okay. 00:15:01.97\00:15:03.98 In New York you can, I don't know about here. 00:15:04.01\00:15:05.69 I should say I'm sorry, I was too quick to answer 00:15:05.72\00:15:08.28 that question. In most big cities. In most big cities 00:15:08.31\00:15:10.90 you can of course I don't live in the city but you can 00:15:10.93\00:15:13.01 still find even in High Park. I mean I am amazed, 00:15:13.04\00:15:15.71 they go to the food store, look at this, 00:15:15.74\00:15:18.09 we have TVP, and I am always excited 00:15:18.12\00:15:20.46 to see the vegetarian section of the store. 00:15:20.49\00:15:22.12 It doesn't take too long to rehydrate, 00:15:22.15\00:15:23.92 so long as the water is hot because they 00:15:23.95\00:15:25.59 are small bits and pieces, and you always want to 00:15:25.62\00:15:28.43 rehydrate before adding any salt because the salt 00:15:28.46\00:15:31.85 stops the process, or it slows it down at the very least. 00:15:31.88\00:15:34.67 I've try adding it after and I've had difficulties, Okay. 00:15:34.70\00:15:37.70 Now if our friends at home have never used TVP. 00:15:37.73\00:15:39.61 How would they know when it is rehydrated. 00:15:39.64\00:15:41.91 It will be soft and fluffy. Okay. 00:15:41.94\00:15:43.65 Let's show them. Lets see if we can get some 00:15:43.68\00:15:46.28 of that water off of there. Let's look here. 00:15:46.31\00:15:49.60 Let's just hold it there. And it's more chewy too. 00:15:49.63\00:15:51.73 You know when its not, its dry, really dry 00:15:51.76\00:15:56.70 I won't tell you what I think it looks like, but its dry, 00:15:56.73\00:15:59.31 but this is soft. Yes, I like that. 00:15:59.34\00:16:02.02 And you can tell the difference; of course 00:16:02.05\00:16:04.46 also it was a darker color when it was, 00:16:04.49\00:16:07.14 and it's lighter. Now it's lighter. And see how it 00:16:07.17\00:16:10.30 thickens the color, just made a big difference 00:16:10.33\00:16:12.80 in our pot. Yes. Then we add oats. 00:16:12.83\00:16:15.68 Is that quick oats, or the old fashioned rolled oats? 00:16:15.71\00:16:21.06 This is just the quick oats, or you can take 00:16:21.09\00:16:23.31 the rolled oats, and guess what, put it in your food 00:16:23.34\00:16:26.13 processor. And cut it down. 00:16:26.16\00:16:27.80 Yes, and the big pieces don't do so well. 00:16:27.83\00:16:30.11 Yes, yes. And next we add our bread crumbs. 00:16:30.14\00:16:35.17 Yes. Now there again, if you're purchasing 00:16:35.20\00:16:37.70 bread crumbs from the store, you have to be certain 00:16:37.73\00:16:39.48 that it has no animal products in there. 00:16:39.51\00:16:41.10 A lot of them oh yeah. You can read the ingredients. 00:16:41.13\00:16:42.58 Oh yeah. Make sure that it has no milk, and cheese, 00:16:42.61\00:16:46.40 and what I've used in there has all kinds of stuff. 00:16:46.43\00:16:48.75 People think its all good stuff just because it says 00:16:48.78\00:16:51.63 it's plain on the package, that's not necessarily true. 00:16:51.66\00:16:54.49 So, check the label. I can cut my stove off 00:16:54.52\00:16:56.97 now because I truly just wanted the oat meal 00:16:57.00\00:17:00.04 to get a little gelatinous, which is, you know 00:17:00.07\00:17:03.95 the fiber, that's in there, it's really good. 00:17:03.98\00:17:06.81 I am going to cut my stove out and I do want 00:17:06.84\00:17:09.81 this to cool a little. Let's start the barbecue 00:17:09.84\00:17:13.08 sauce while that cools, how is that. 00:17:13.11\00:17:14.48 That sounds good to me. And then we can finish 00:17:14.51\00:17:16.45 mixing it. That sounds good to me. Okay. Switch places. 00:17:16.48\00:17:22.72 What are we doing here? I am going to allow it to sit, 00:17:22.75\00:17:25.98 all right. How long does it sit for? 00:17:26.01\00:17:27.84 About five to ten minutes. Okay. Okay, okay. 00:17:27.87\00:17:31.14 All right, I just turned off my stove, so I am going 00:17:31.17\00:17:33.58 to need a lighter again to get our stove going. 00:17:33.61\00:17:37.33 Let's see if I can get it going. Alright. 00:17:38.63\00:17:40.00 I am not too bad in the kitchen. 00:17:40.03\00:17:41.46 That's right, she is pretty good. 00:17:41.49\00:17:43.33 All right now the barbecue sauce is simple, 00:17:43.36\00:17:45.85 we put in our tomato sauce; everything goes 00:17:45.88\00:17:48.67 in the frying pan. Oh okay. This one is so easy, 00:17:48.70\00:17:51.51 this takes two second literally. Okay. 00:17:51.54\00:17:53.50 I will let Joe get dirty with the tomato sauce 00:17:54.62\00:17:56.55 and the tomato paste, and the molasses and all that 00:17:56.58\00:17:59.52 good stuff, yes that's molasses, tomato sauce, 00:17:59.55\00:18:03.90 we have our tomato paste in there. 00:18:05.30\00:18:07.38 You would use a smaller spoon at home but 00:18:07.41\00:18:10.26 this is what we got, so we are going to make 00:18:10.29\00:18:11.76 do with this. I hope we use a smaller spoon at home. 00:18:11.79\00:18:15.26 There is your honey right. 00:18:15.29\00:18:17.23 Yes, you better have some honey, just a pinch 00:18:17.26\00:18:19.06 of honey, of course we want it, honey is good. 00:18:19.09\00:18:21.70 I will mix it while you get the other stuff. Okay. 00:18:21.73\00:18:24.69 You see the color it's taking, it's so beautiful, 00:18:24.72\00:18:28.75 Oh yeah, you just want to mix it all up 00:18:28.78\00:18:32.13 and you know what the thing about it is, 00:18:32.16\00:18:34.52 you're just combining the ingredients. 00:18:34.55\00:18:37.65 It doesn't necessarily, we even have to cook 00:18:37.68\00:18:39.32 Okay. You should smell this food. It does. 00:18:39.35\00:18:43.26 It smells really good in here. It smells really good. 00:18:43.29\00:18:46.31 And it tastes good, I ensure you. 00:18:49.20\00:18:50.57 Oh yeah. I can smell that Marlene. 00:18:50.60\00:18:52.62 How do you come up with your recipes? 00:18:52.65\00:18:55.98 Well you know something, I will be honest a lot of 00:18:56.01\00:18:58.29 them I have not done on my own. Okay. 00:18:58.32\00:19:00.23 Some of them, a lot of them I have done on my own, 00:19:00.26\00:19:02.33 of course just trial and error. 00:19:02.36\00:19:03.73 The... is gone. Lots of error and bloopers 00:19:03.76\00:19:06.88 in the kitchen, I will show you. That's right. 00:19:06.91\00:19:08.47 As a matter of fact, I shared with my friends 00:19:08.50\00:19:11.39 that sometimes I didn't taste my food for a long 00:19:11.42\00:19:14.81 time because I was so afraid that it didn't taste 00:19:14.84\00:19:16.94 so good. So I let everybody else in the house 00:19:16.97\00:19:19.25 try it first. It took me a week or two just to eat 00:19:19.28\00:19:21.80 my own cheese cakes. Yes. 00:19:21.83\00:19:23.92 But my other friend Edemy and she should 00:19:23.95\00:19:26.38 shared a lot of her recipes with me over the years. 00:19:26.41\00:19:28.24 That's special. I had another friend 00:19:28.27\00:19:29.64 Michelle, she shared some with my mom 00:19:29.67\00:19:31.04 and my sister, we just exchanged recipes 00:19:31.07\00:19:33.20 and sometimes we make it out our own, 00:19:33.23\00:19:34.69 because we add your own little flavor to it. 00:19:34.72\00:19:37.09 And you know what, that's it. 00:19:37.12\00:19:38.69 That's it. Perfect. That's it. I will let it sit on 00:19:38.72\00:19:42.22 the stove and simmer while we get back to our meatballs. 00:19:42.25\00:19:46.96 The meatballs. I am going to bring the meatballs 00:19:46.99\00:19:48.91 on to the. Okay. Section here. I hope you didn't 00:19:48.94\00:19:52.87 forget that we are making meatballs people? 00:19:52.90\00:19:54.38 No I didn't forget. Alright, lets, I like a neat 00:19:54.41\00:19:57.81 environment for working. Now that it's a little 00:19:57.84\00:19:59.78 cooler and look at that. 00:19:59.81\00:20:01.28 Yes, very nice. It's the perfect consistency. 00:20:01.31\00:20:05.26 It is. Okay. So we can add our liquids. 00:20:05.29\00:20:08.41 Liquids first. Let's do the liquids. I'll stir, yeah you 00:20:08.44\00:20:12.78 stir. And our lemon juice gives a nice tang, 00:20:12.81\00:20:15.32 we have a little oil. Yes, that's good. 00:20:15.35\00:20:20.15 Looks like a little more than I wanted but 00:20:20.18\00:20:21.55 that's fine, my person who measured probably 00:20:21.58\00:20:23.39 did a little more. We will have some Bragg's 00:20:23.42\00:20:26.13 liquid Aminos or soy sauce unfermented preferably. 00:20:26.16\00:20:28.93 Then we have a dash of cayenne pepper. 00:20:28.96\00:20:32.69 We will give it an old kick. Alright. I am making noise. 00:20:32.72\00:20:38.20 Okay, let me have our onions. Yeah. 00:20:38.23\00:20:41.17 And if you don't want the onions, 00:20:41.20\00:20:42.57 you can use the onion powder. Yeah. 00:20:42.60\00:20:46.00 You know it's up to you. You have some colored 00:20:46.03\00:20:47.93 bell peppers, it's so pretty, you have some garlic. 00:20:47.96\00:20:51.41 And you can use the garlic powder too. 00:20:51.44\00:20:53.39 Yep, yep, yep, yap, of course. I think this is some 00:20:53.42\00:20:56.24 added onion or garlic powder, I am not sure 00:20:56.27\00:20:59.48 which one to be honest, and then of course 00:20:59.51\00:21:01.55 we have our chicken style seasoning. 00:21:01.58\00:21:04.28 Let's make sure I gets all in there. 00:21:04.31\00:21:06.78 Yes. And we add just a little flour. 00:21:06.81\00:21:10.42 Yes, and does it thicken it more or does that. Okay. 00:21:10.45\00:21:14.16 Yes. Perfect thickness. And then pecan meal. 00:21:14.19\00:21:15.88 And with this here, this here is a pecan meal 00:21:15.91\00:21:19.66 and this gives it that meaty nuttier lady. Yes. 00:21:19.69\00:21:24.36 now tell me we don't have time to make them 00:21:24.39\00:21:27.23 into balls, but you would form them into balls, 00:21:27.26\00:21:28.80 put them on the cookie sheet. 00:21:28.83\00:21:30.20 Yes, allow them to cool. Okay. 00:21:30.23\00:21:31.60 And you get about seventy five meatballs. Nice. 00:21:31.63\00:21:34.09 Seventy five meatballs. Bake it at 350. 00:21:34.12\00:21:36.64 Bake it at 350 for about 25 to 30 minutes, 00:21:36.67\00:21:39.38 at least thirty minutes. I would say 00:21:39.41\00:21:42.00 No, you bake it with the barbecue sauce 00:21:42.03\00:21:44.32 on or you put the barbecue sauce after. 00:21:44.35\00:21:45.72 No, you break it separate, then you add your 00:21:45.75\00:21:47.12 barbecue sauce. Awesome. 00:21:47.15\00:21:48.52 I don't know if they can get a look at that. 00:21:48.55\00:21:49.92 It's beautiful. This is so delicious looking. 00:21:49.95\00:21:51.32 I am ready to get on in there. 00:21:51.35\00:21:53.13 That's right. Now we are going to go oh there it is. 00:21:53.16\00:21:56.12 I see it its beautiful, that's really nice. 00:21:56.15\00:21:57.91 Now we're making our cookies. 00:21:57.94\00:21:59.60 Let's read the recipe for them. For the thumbprint 00:21:59.63\00:22:02.86 cookies, you need two cups whole wheat flour, 00:22:02.89\00:22:04.77 one cup pecan or almond flour, one cup cane sugar, 00:22:04.80\00:22:08.96 one cup shredded coconut, and one half cup oil. 00:22:08.99\00:22:12.34 You also need two thirds cup water, 00:22:12.37\00:22:15.08 one teaspoon aluminum free baking powder, 00:22:15.11\00:22:17.41 one teaspoon almond flavor strawberry jam 00:22:17.44\00:22:20.18 or another jam of your choice. 00:22:20.21\00:22:22.24 We are making dessert Marlene, I love dessert, 00:22:25.04\00:22:26.61 and this is a healthy dessert. 00:22:26.64\00:22:28.13 Oh yeah and it's tasty too. It's very tasty. 00:22:28.16\00:22:32.39 That's right, what we do here. 00:22:32.42\00:22:33.79 We have our thumbprint cookies, and we are going to 00:22:33.82\00:22:35.38 put all of our ingredients into the bowl. 00:22:35.41\00:22:37.13 I will help you dump, now have our sugar, 00:22:37.16\00:22:39.42 pecan meal, you can use pecan or almond meal. 00:22:39.45\00:22:43.39 Okay. Almond meal is good too, 00:22:43.42\00:22:46.06 very good actually it makes it a lighter cookie. 00:22:46.09\00:22:48.15 That was the flour and then we had our coconut. 00:22:48.18\00:22:51.49 So then we have a little salt, and we have our 00:22:53.19\00:22:57.02 baking powder. You said on the recipe 00:22:57.05\00:22:58.99 aluminum free. Yes, you can get. 00:22:59.02\00:23:01.96 Can you, does it just say no aluminum or. 00:23:01.99\00:23:04.43 Not really, sometimes you may get it, 00:23:04.46\00:23:07.48 I think there is one brand that may say aluminum free. 00:23:07.51\00:23:09.94 Okay. But usually you would have to read the 00:23:09.97\00:23:12.03 recipe ingredient. Because otherwise you will be 00:23:12.06\00:23:16.06 purchasing the aluminum right. 00:23:16.09\00:23:17.69 Aluminum we don't need right. Right. 00:23:17.72\00:23:19.09 We are trying to avoid as much as possible. 00:23:19.12\00:23:21.12 That's right. Even though it leads to 00:23:21.15\00:23:22.87 memory loss, and we want to be able to remember 00:23:22.90\00:23:24.68 who we are, and where we are going, 00:23:24.71\00:23:26.18 and whom we are talking to and what I just said. 00:23:26.21\00:23:28.46 That's right. What did I just say again. 00:23:28.49\00:23:30.21 What are we doing, no I don't want to be like that. 00:23:30.24\00:23:35.31 That's right. I don't' want to get old 00:23:35.34\00:23:37.04 and hope the light comes before that. Amen. 00:23:37.07\00:23:39.56 But we have to promise no matter what age we are. 00:23:39.59\00:23:41.71 Amen. I know some of you watching this program 00:23:41.74\00:23:43.41 may be older but Jesus is with us, no matter 00:23:43.44\00:23:45.57 what age we are. Amen. And we know 00:23:45.60\00:23:47.04 he is coming back for us. 00:23:47.07\00:23:48.44 Amen, there is a promise. Book of John, 00:23:48.47\00:23:50.53 I've gone to prepare a place for you. Amen. 00:23:50.56\00:23:52.75 That's right. So I am going to that place 00:23:52.78\00:23:54.64 that he is gone to prepare, that's what I am 00:23:54.67\00:23:56.30 preparing for. You know sweet; sugar is, 00:23:56.33\00:23:59.72 there are so many people who are so concerned 00:23:59.75\00:24:03.18 about the sweets. Yes. 00:24:03.21\00:24:04.58 Too much sugar is bad. Right. 00:24:04.61\00:24:07.04 Okay. And we don't want to eat too much of it, 00:24:07.07\00:24:11.76 just moderately, so if you are making cookies, 00:24:11.79\00:24:14.68 even though you have a problem with your weight, 00:24:14.71\00:24:17.03 and you have a problem with diabetes and 00:24:17.06\00:24:18.67 all this issues, then just have one cookie, 00:24:18.70\00:24:20.20 have every once a week or something. You haven't 00:24:20.23\00:24:22.42 everyday, okay. Just small literally, 00:24:22.45\00:24:25.91 Yes, you can add your oil, I will mix while 00:24:25.94\00:24:30.56 you do that, add your water, and I hope we 00:24:30.59\00:24:33.61 have enough water and we have our almond, 00:24:33.64\00:24:36.11 extracts. Okay. Let's see how quick we can get it 00:24:36.14\00:24:39.23 all in there. Nice, it looks good. 00:24:39.26\00:24:42.05 I hope we have enough water. 00:24:42.08\00:24:43.45 We can get a little more if he need some. 00:24:45.07\00:24:46.70 I think we do. Okay. 00:24:46.73\00:24:48.80 If you think you need a little water, 00:24:48.83\00:24:51.69 then you can add like a tablespoon or two, 00:24:51.72\00:24:53.29 its up to you, as you play with the recipes, 00:24:53.32\00:24:56.95 it's not a cake batter, it's all we can batter. 00:24:56.98\00:24:58.93 It's supposed to be different. 00:24:58.96\00:25:00.33 It's supposed to be stiffer; it's not supposed, 00:25:00.36\00:25:01.73 it's look no like a cake running all over the place. 00:25:01.76\00:25:03.59 Yes. All right. Now we have a cookie sheet, 00:25:03.62\00:25:07.44 let's take it on the cookie sheet. 00:25:07.47\00:25:08.84 So you take your spoon, we can form balls like this, 00:25:09.87\00:25:16.13 I like doing the balls, and then you put it on 00:25:16.16\00:25:19.52 your cookie sheet, and watch what I do with it, 00:25:19.55\00:25:22.20 and it's your choice of jelly, jam or whatever. 00:25:24.84\00:25:26.79 Yeah, was that too close together. 00:25:26.82\00:25:29.38 My spoon can almost; the spoon hardly fits in there, 00:25:29.41\00:25:32.75 and watch this. You put the thumbprint in there, 00:25:34.25\00:25:37.78 I see that thumbprint. That's a lot of jelly. 00:25:37.81\00:25:40.03 And the jam in there. But that one is good though 00:25:40.06\00:25:44.58 you know Marlene I like that. And this is the perfect 00:25:44.61\00:25:48.15 dessert for your guest coming on over there 00:25:48.18\00:25:51.64 to your house, for your children, for lunch you 00:25:51.67\00:25:56.20 can pack take it for a packed lunch for school. 00:25:56.23\00:25:58.74 Yes, that's right. You know, take it for your teachers, 00:25:58.77\00:26:01.85 little people. Good, I love it, very nice. 00:26:01.88\00:26:05.30 And you just bake it at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. 00:26:05.33\00:26:08.13 And that's it. That's it. I love it. And serve. 00:26:08.16\00:26:10.90 Perfect. And eat meal. That's right. And enjoy. 00:26:10.93\00:26:13.98 That's right. Well we have to take 00:26:14.01\00:26:15.69 a break here friends.
