Have you ever gotten up in the morning and wondered 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.95 what in the world I'm gonna fix for breakfast? 00:00:02.96\00:00:04.96 What I'm gonna fix for my kids? 00:00:04.99\00:00:06.74 Well today we are gonna show you some healthy, 00:00:06.77\00:00:09.36 high fiber, easy to make breakfast ideas. 00:00:09.39\00:00:12.93 Hello friends and welcome to Let's Cook Together. 00:00:45.98\00:00:48.61 I am your host Jill Morikone and we have an exciting 00:00:48.64\00:00:51.28 program planned for you today all full of breakfast 00:00:51.31\00:00:54.43 ideas that you can do for your family at your own 00:00:54.46\00:00:57.59 home. I have a special guest here with me in the 00:00:57.62\00:01:00.13 kitchen, her name is Mary Bernt. She comes all the way 00:01:00.16\00:01:02.32 from Oklahoma, that's right. Welcome Mary, we are so 00:01:02.35\00:01:04.99 glad to have you here. Thank You. 00:01:05.02\00:01:06.04 Tell us just a little about your ministry. Well, I have 00:01:06.60\00:01:09.76 a vegetarian restaurant and health food store in 00:01:09.79\00:01:13.58 Ardmore, Oklahoma. Nee and that's called Veggies. 00:01:13.61\00:01:16.34 That's called veggies and we have a little school of 00:01:16.37\00:01:18.31 Health Evangelism there. Nee that's wonderful. 00:01:18.34\00:01:21.06 Now you use your restaurant there to reach out 00:01:21.09\00:01:25.47 the people, to witness the people, tell us little about 00:01:25.50\00:01:27.61 Absolutely well. We decided that there was no point 00:01:27.64\00:01:30.98 being in the restaurant business to make money. 00:01:31.01\00:01:33.23 There is only one point to be in the restaurant 00:01:33.90\00:01:35.40 business and that's to win souls. It's really just it's, 00:01:35.43\00:01:38.55 it's a harder work to do, but it's probably one of the 00:01:38.58\00:01:42.69 most gratifying of any work that I've ever done 00:01:42.72\00:01:45.94 in my life because truly Jill the way to a man's 00:01:45.97\00:01:49.06 heart is through his stomach. 00:01:49.09\00:01:50.88 And we have found that combining the health message 00:01:50.91\00:01:54.44 with evangelism that we see souls won to the kingdom. 00:01:54.47\00:01:57.43 And the way to a woman's heart as well I think, 00:01:57.51\00:01:59.37 woman like to eat too. Yes, this is true. 00:01:59.40\00:02:01.09 Yes, yes that's wonderful. 00:02:01.12\00:02:03.15 Now you have somebody that all of our Fabian friends 00:02:03.43\00:02:05.95 at home, and viewers you are very familiar 00:02:05.98\00:02:08.38 with Pastor David Asscherick, we see his 00:02:08.41\00:02:10.18 programs and stuff. Yeah. You have something to do 00:02:10.21\00:02:12.22 with bringing him into the church, tell us about that. 00:02:12.25\00:02:14.21 Well we had a small part. He first came into my health 00:02:14.24\00:02:18.03 food store with his girlfriend, who had 00:02:18.06\00:02:20.22 come to one of my health and nutrition classes 00:02:20.25\00:02:22.58 Okay, and he came marching in with her one day. I liked 00:02:22.61\00:02:26.15 that young lady quite a little bit and this 00:02:26.18\00:02:29.14 young man came in with her one day and he was 00:02:29.17\00:02:31.33 little bit, you know, different as well as 00:02:31.36\00:02:33.02 obnoxious. His hair was blue or purple or something, 00:02:33.05\00:02:36.01 it was anything but brown and I remember asking 00:02:36.04\00:02:40.25 the young lady, who is that young man? 00:02:40.28\00:02:42.54 And they said well that's Kara's boyfriend, his name 00:02:42.57\00:02:45.76 is David Asscherick, and shortly after that 00:02:45.79\00:02:48.54 we turned that little health food store, which was in 00:02:48.57\00:02:52.03 Rapid City, South Dakota into a health food store 00:02:52.06\00:02:54.87 restaurant named Veggies. Oh, the same name good. 00:02:54.90\00:02:57.36 the same name, okay And that young David Asscherick 00:02:57.39\00:03:01.19 whenever he was in Rapid City, he ate there I think 00:03:01.22\00:03:04.02 everyday if that he was in town and he with the 00:03:04.05\00:03:07.39 several other punk rockers. 00:03:07.42\00:03:08.85 And we would know when they were coming even if we 00:03:08.88\00:03:11.26 didn't see them, if our backs were turned from 00:03:11.29\00:03:13.08 the door, we could hear them because they would all 00:03:13.11\00:03:15.20 link hands and they march up yelling bad cheese, 00:03:15.23\00:03:18.33 bad cheese, and so. 00:03:18.36\00:03:20.79 I can kind a see that. Yeah, yeah can you see that. 00:03:20.82\00:03:23.10 Yeah. I mean even though they don't have the blue 00:03:23.13\00:03:24.88 hair and all that, but I can kind a see that. Yes, yes. 00:03:24.91\00:03:27.03 Yeah that's nee, wonderful. So then you witnessed to him 00:03:27.31\00:03:30.41 and We did and, I actually he would ask me 00:03:30.44\00:03:34.07 questions all the time. What do you think about this? 00:03:34.10\00:03:36.95 What do you think about churches and I would say 00:03:36.98\00:03:38.62 what happened, let's see what the bible thinks. 00:03:38.65\00:03:40.83 Amen that's right. Let's see what God thinks 00:03:40.86\00:03:42.07 because what I think doesn't mean anything yeah and 00:03:42.10\00:03:44.55 finally one day I said David why don't we just do 00:03:44.58\00:03:47.18 a bible study? And being the busy restaurant owner that 00:03:47.21\00:03:51.75 I was, Madam was really busy Yes I am very busy 00:03:51.78\00:03:55.02 I set him up for a Bible study and then had a 00:03:55.05\00:03:57.70 young friend of mine come in and do the studies 00:03:57.73\00:04:00.37 with him. Yes, yes. And you know the rest is pretty much 00:04:00.40\00:04:04.31 history and so. That's fantastic. But you do that 00:04:04.34\00:04:07.42 down there in Oklahoma too, witness of the stuff. 00:04:07.45\00:04:08.86 That is exactly what we do. Amen. 00:04:08.89\00:04:10.42 We actually just held an evangelistic series 00:04:10.45\00:04:14.36 through shine or school of health evangelism and we 00:04:14.39\00:04:17.56 had many people who eat at the restaurant come 00:04:17.59\00:04:19.60 and we baptized six of the twelve non-Adventists, 00:04:19.63\00:04:23.74 who came to those meetings. That's exciting 00:04:23.77\00:04:25.03 So, we were very excited. Oh, yeah absolutely. 00:04:25.06\00:04:28.52 Good. Now, we are making breakfast food today. 00:04:28.55\00:04:30.84 We are making breakfast that's my favorite. Yeah, 00:04:30.87\00:04:33.87 I am always looking for breakfast ideas, 00:04:33.90\00:04:35.22 you get up and you are in hurry, and you say 00:04:35.25\00:04:36.60 what in the world I'm gonna fix, so this is good 00:04:36.63\00:04:38.37 I am very happy with this. Yes this is exciting 00:04:38.40\00:04:40.45 I think you really like it. Yes. What do we making 00:04:40.48\00:04:42.53 first? Well, we are going to start out with the sausage, 00:04:42.56\00:04:45.16 good. And I just want you to know that everything that 00:04:45.47\00:04:49.89 we are doing for breakfast is high fiber. Good, okay. 00:04:49.92\00:04:53.81 And that's really important Jill because we want 00:04:53.84\00:04:56.23 people to get started their day with lots of fiber 00:04:56.26\00:05:00.18 because that way during the middle of the day they won't 00:05:00.21\00:05:03.66 be crashing and burning and feeling just like they have 00:05:03.69\00:05:06.71 to eat something or get you know they will be satisfied. 00:05:06.74\00:05:10.45 Keeps them moving. Exactly and you know really is 00:05:10.48\00:05:12.73 a good way to lose weight. Get that good breakfast 00:05:12.76\00:05:15.41 and get your metabolism going in the morning, 00:05:15.44\00:05:17.80 that's good. So, all these things will have high fiber, 00:05:17.83\00:05:19.67 yeah. Well let's read our recipe for friends at home 00:05:19.70\00:05:21.63 for our sausage. For the Orange Maple Sausage, 00:05:21.66\00:05:25.61 you need one package Gimmee lean sausage flavor 00:05:25.64\00:05:28.98 One cup orange juice and one third cup maple syrup 00:05:29.73\00:05:33.54 All right Okay Let's see how to make this. 00:05:34.09\00:05:36.25 So, this is our Gimmee lean and you can get this, 00:05:36.28\00:05:38.34 I saw this probably at almost every Wal-Mart, 00:05:38.37\00:05:41.91 I've ever been and I have seen this and you can see it 00:05:41.94\00:05:44.48 in your local Wal-Mart, yeah. And so we are just 00:05:44.51\00:05:47.15 going to take this and we are going to, you can cut it 00:05:47.18\00:05:50.92 either way you want, well just cut it down like this 00:05:50.95\00:05:53.48 and flip it open and I normally get about eight 00:05:54.88\00:05:58.05 sausages out of a package, but you know just depends 00:05:58.08\00:06:01.33 on how our friends at home want to cut it and you can 00:06:01.36\00:06:06.43 take that down there, so we just going to make a few, 00:06:06.46\00:06:11.30 nice and thick, yeah nice and think, like I said it 00:06:11.33\00:06:13.50 just depends on what you, how you like it? 00:06:13.53\00:06:15.86 My family just loves this, we are gonna, we are only 00:06:16.12\00:06:18.56 gonna get five. Okay, there you go, we got nice sequence 00:06:18.59\00:06:21.12 here. We have nice sequence, so what we are gonna make 00:06:21.15\00:06:23.33 that now. You do a little favor for me Jill and grab 00:06:23.36\00:06:27.07 that pan that's down there. Yeah, here you go and I am 00:06:27.10\00:06:30.63 going to spray our pan always like to use little 00:06:30.66\00:06:32.66 pam Yes. You want rest of these flatten over there, 00:06:32.69\00:06:35.07 yes, we will flatten those little bit. And we will 00:06:35.10\00:06:37.81 stick them in our pan this is such an easy recipe, 00:06:37.84\00:06:40.02 Oh yeah I like that My little girl can make this 00:06:40.05\00:06:43.02 at home all by herself. Kianna, yes, oh, 00:06:43.05\00:06:45.47 she is real sweat You got a wonderful daughter. 00:06:45.50\00:06:47.28 Okay. Nice and thin, so they cook quickly, is that good, 00:06:48.95\00:06:56.73 that works perfectly. Oh, good. Let me get a paper 00:06:56.76\00:06:59.84 towel? Get a paper towel for us. There you go, 00:06:59.87\00:07:03.37 thank you. Yeah. Alright and this is how easy is this? 00:07:03.40\00:07:07.31 We are going to add a cup of maple syrup, oh, good. 00:07:07.34\00:07:10.87 You mean the orange juice. Excuse me 00:07:12.03\00:07:13.32 a cup of orange juice. She thinks this is maple syrup. 00:07:13.35\00:07:15.08 That's oranges maple syrup you've ever seen isn't it, 00:07:15.11\00:07:17.68 absolutely. And then we will add our maple syrup. 00:07:17.71\00:07:21.76 I love Maple Syrup. And I always like to use Grade B, 00:07:23.40\00:07:26.44 okay. What is that? It's a little thicker, 00:07:26.65\00:07:29.91 a little richer, okay. And its one third cup plus 00:07:30.16\00:07:33.62 two tablespoon, so I'm just going to kind of eyeball 00:07:33.65\00:07:35.90 that. Okay. Two tablespoon part, just a little bit 00:07:35.93\00:07:38.35 extra. Oh, that looks good. And then we are going to 00:07:38.38\00:07:42.99 put it on our stove here. Oh, there we go, good. 00:07:44.21\00:07:52.38 Alright and we will just put our sausage upon the stove, 00:07:52.60\00:07:56.57 yeah, and we will turn that on high. Okay. 00:07:56.60\00:07:59.28 And it can cook at on high, we just wanna keep an eye 00:07:59.31\00:08:02.96 on it, so that it doesn't burn and doesn't 00:08:02.99\00:08:05.69 you know get too dry, right. 00:08:06.51\00:08:07.70 And we are just going to cook it until everything 00:08:07.73\00:08:10.78 nice, so they can coats the sausage, nice 00:08:10.81\00:08:14.76 Yes, it's very, very nice, so then you have that kind 00:08:14.79\00:08:17.41 of tart sort of sweet flavor in the sausage 00:08:17.44\00:08:20.11 and I'll tell you my mother used to make 00:08:20.14\00:08:24.15 a little sausage; it was the real thing, yeah, 00:08:24.86\00:08:28.03 because I wasn't raised the vegetarian as a child 00:08:28.06\00:08:31.29 and she would make it in this mix and I just loved 00:08:31.32\00:08:34.79 it. So, when I became a vegetarian I thought okay 00:08:34.82\00:08:37.19 there has to be a way to replicate this recipe, 00:08:37.22\00:08:39.77 smoothly. And so I came up with this and it will work 00:08:39.80\00:08:42.97 with almost any sausage that you would use that you 00:08:43.00\00:08:47.27 would find in a health food store or grocery store 00:08:47.30\00:08:49.79 or something. Right, with few exceptions. 00:08:49.82\00:08:52.46 I did try it with one sausage that I thought 00:08:52.49\00:08:54.87 oh, that one is not quite so good, but it is extremely 00:08:54.90\00:08:58.91 good with the Gimmee lean sausage. Good. 00:08:58.94\00:09:01.02 Well, let's go while that cooks there, we are gonna 00:09:01.05\00:09:02.61 go to our Oat Groats right. Yes, that's right. 00:09:02.64\00:09:05.13 Let's go to our Oat Groats recipe. 00:09:05.16\00:09:06.73 You wanna read that recipe for us alright. 00:09:06.76\00:09:08.71 We are going to take one and a half cup of Oat Groats 00:09:09.83\00:09:13.10 and four cups of water, three quarters of 00:09:13.76\00:09:16.61 a teaspoon of salt, one can of pineapple tidbits, 00:09:16.64\00:09:20.24 one cup of fresh strawberries, cut into 00:09:20.40\00:09:23.08 pieces and about three tablespoons of maple syrup. 00:09:23.11\00:09:26.90 Now tell me Mary what is an Oat Groat? 00:09:28.83\00:09:30.55 Well an Oat Groat is actually the whole oat 00:09:30.81\00:09:33.77 before they roll it, which turns it into what we think 00:09:33.80\00:09:37.63 of is rolled oats or oat meal I think some people 00:09:37.66\00:09:40.64 refer to that, right okay. 00:09:40.67\00:09:42.17 And so I don't know if you are familiar with horses 00:09:42.20\00:09:44.43 or if you have horses, but we would oat groats would 00:09:44.46\00:09:48.10 be what you actually feed your horse, right okay 00:09:48.13\00:09:51.27 And the reason I love to eat oat groats in fact 00:09:51.30\00:09:54.59 I tell people this at my health and nutrition 00:09:54.62\00:09:56.56 seminars, with our horses we had to quit feeding them 00:09:56.59\00:10:00.38 oats. Why? Now it's interesting because you 00:10:00.41\00:10:04.25 feed them oats and they get too much energy 00:10:04.28\00:10:06.65 and I have one horse that if you feed her oats 00:10:07.67\00:10:09.85 she never has four feet on the ground at one time. 00:10:09.88\00:10:12.03 So, if you guys not having enough energy this is what 00:10:12.48\00:10:14.14 you need to do eat oats, right. Hey, you learn 00:10:14.17\00:10:16.96 a lesson from the horses. Yeah, okay. 00:10:16.99\00:10:19.68 Yes and this is just a great recipe. I move this out of 00:10:19.71\00:10:22.47 the way. This is a great recipe because it's so easy 00:10:22.50\00:10:26.15 I have what I have actually done is I took the oats 00:10:26.18\00:10:30.52 last night, this is actually my crock-pot and it's 00:10:30.55\00:10:34.09 the in search to my crock-pot, yes, Yes. 00:10:34.12\00:10:36.72 So, I put the oat groats in the crock-pot last night 00:10:36.75\00:10:40.20 with the water and when I woke up this morning 00:10:40.23\00:10:43.31 they were already to go and all we have to do is 00:10:43.59\00:10:47.65 add the remaining ingredients 00:10:47.68\00:10:49.62 and it's breakfast. That's easy, I like that. 00:10:50.07\00:10:52.21 It's so easy, so easy There is no excuse to not have a 00:10:52.24\00:10:54.89 a good breakfast now, that's right. Tell me how much 00:10:54.92\00:10:57.06 part oat groats to water? The recipe was a cup and 00:10:57.09\00:11:01.04 a half of oat groats to four cups of water, 00:11:01.07\00:11:03.14 if you wanna cut that down in half or a smaller family 00:11:03.17\00:11:06.69 you know that you obviously can and you can do to serve 00:11:07.35\00:11:10.60 lot of different things with this recipe. 00:11:11.30\00:11:13.04 Sometimes, we just add dried cranberries and that's 00:11:13.57\00:11:16.23 very nice, okay Okay or you could just it plain. 00:11:16.26\00:11:19.12 You can add any of your favorite fruit really, 00:11:19.74\00:11:22.99 but the recipe we are going to do today, we are adding 00:11:23.02\00:11:25.75 the pineapple and, oh yeah that's good. 00:11:25.78\00:11:30.71 Oh, it's wonderful, I will tell you I had this recipe 00:11:30.74\00:11:33.98 I was doing a seminar at one point at a home and they 00:11:34.01\00:11:40.02 made this oat groats cereal and I haven't had it for 00:11:40.05\00:11:43.47 a while. And as my hostess was getting everything ready 00:11:43.50\00:11:47.02 and I thought oh I am just not in the mood 00:11:47.05\00:11:48.60 for a oat meal, I don't like oat meal, but I love 00:11:48.63\00:11:51.54 oat groats and I told uhh I am just not really a fan of 00:11:51.57\00:11:54.46 oat meal. She said I think you will like this and I ate 00:11:54.49\00:11:56.73 I said that was so delicious. Yes. 00:11:56.76\00:11:58.69 I said where did you get the recipe and she laughed at 00:11:58.72\00:12:00.64 me she said from your cookbook. I said what that 00:12:00.67\00:12:03.74 Do you know it was while since I had that. 00:12:03.77\00:12:06.11 I can just say you will obviously do a lot of 00:12:06.14\00:12:07.63 recipes if you can't remember everything 00:12:07.66\00:12:09.00 that's in the cookbook that's pretty cute, 00:12:09.03\00:12:10.52 I like that. Yeah, exactly and then we will add, 00:12:10.55\00:12:12.56 the recipe calls for three tablespoons of maple syrup. 00:12:12.59\00:12:16.04 Time to guess. We kind to guess at this one and 00:12:17.68\00:12:20.51 the salt is really a nice addition to it as well 00:12:21.10\00:12:23.80 and this would be your oat groats are going to be hot, 00:12:24.47\00:12:26.51 they are just fresh out of the heat from your, 00:12:26.54\00:12:30.52 you know, there is on your crock-pot they still be nice 00:12:30.55\00:12:32.87 and hot, let's go and stir these things in, now my 00:12:32.90\00:12:37.59 favorite thing I just love this Jill. This is really 00:12:37.62\00:12:40.84 good breakfast and my favorite thing to top the 00:12:40.87\00:12:44.07 oat groats with is hemp milk. Oh, okay 00:12:44.10\00:12:48.17 You know obviously you could do soy milk or 00:12:48.20\00:12:50.00 rice milk or milk, milk whatever your favorite 00:12:50.03\00:12:52.88 form of milk is. Now what's hemp milk? 00:12:53.30\00:12:54.82 Hemp milk is the newest thing in health food stores. 00:12:55.23\00:12:57.74 Okay. Hemp has almost the same omega 3 properties that 00:12:58.04\00:13:03.40 flax does. Oh, flaxseed is really good for your brain 00:13:03.43\00:13:05.94 and all kinds of things. Exactly, exactly, 00:13:05.97\00:13:07.88 So this is very high in the Omega 3 and it really has 00:13:07.91\00:13:11.10 a nice flavor. I learned something new today, 00:13:11.13\00:13:14.06 yes exactly. It's, it's totally legal and no you 00:13:14.09\00:13:18.08 know it's made from the part of the plant that doesn't 00:13:18.11\00:13:20.30 have those active ingredients that people 00:13:20.33\00:13:22.38 people use for illegal reasons. Right okay. 00:13:22.41\00:13:24.93 So, this is a wonderful, wonderful thing, yes. 00:13:24.96\00:13:27.57 And we can put little bit of that in there if we like 00:13:27.60\00:13:30.03 oh yeah, and My husband would love this beause 00:13:30.06\00:13:32.65 anything with fruit he likes. Yes, yeah. 00:13:32.68\00:13:34.73 And the fiber, yes. In one cup of oat groats you have 00:13:34.76\00:13:40.51 16 grams of fiber. Oh, yeah that's a lot. 00:13:40.54\00:13:43.75 Yes, it's a lot of fiber. Yeah. And so I think that 00:13:43.78\00:13:46.77 our friends at home will love this recipe, I think 00:13:46.80\00:13:49.83 I like it too Yes. So, I'm not simplifying 00:13:49.86\00:13:52.07 the oat meal, but I am really excited because 00:13:52.10\00:13:53.91 it looks really good and it looks like some how 00:13:53.94\00:13:55.51 we like it. Exactly, the texture is so much nicer 00:13:55.54\00:13:57.48 than just the regular rolled outs. I think you will like 00:13:57.51\00:14:00.84 it Jill. Yeah good. Alright. And here our sausage. 00:14:00.87\00:14:03.71 Our sausage is boiling away it will thicken and be done 00:14:03.74\00:14:08.38 shortly. And once it thickens what we do 00:14:08.41\00:14:09.78 with it? Once it thickens, it's ready to eat. 00:14:09.81\00:14:12.07 You know thank you all done we just eat it. 00:14:13.13\00:14:14.77 We just eat it, it's just ready to go. 00:14:14.80\00:14:16.66 So, see that's also very fast, that's a quick 00:14:16.69\00:14:19.66 breakfast idea. I like that. And I think for most 00:14:19.69\00:14:22.46 Americans quick is what they need, really quick 00:14:22.49\00:14:25.13 Absolutely, yes. And I think other parts of the world 00:14:25.16\00:14:27.32 too, people need quick. Exactly, you know 00:14:27.35\00:14:28.56 everybody is busy. Let's go what are we making next? 00:14:28.59\00:14:30.60 We are going to make pancakes. Yummy. Next with 00:14:31.04\00:14:34.01 the fruit sauce. I love pancakes. Let's read the 00:14:34.04\00:14:36.16 recipe for the pancakes. For that you will need one 00:14:36.19\00:14:40.02 cup flour, one cup corn meal, two tablespoons 00:14:40.05\00:14:45.44 honey, one quarter cup olive oil, one and two thirds 00:14:45.85\00:14:49.97 cup soymilk, one teaspoon salt and one tablespoon 00:14:50.00\00:14:54.07 featherweight baking powder. You know, Mary I think 00:14:54.10\00:14:58.43 pancakes is my favorite thing to eat for breakfast 00:14:58.46\00:15:00.64 or anytime, I love pancakes. I love pancakes too. 00:15:00.97\00:15:04.21 But I want my pancakes to be high fiber. Yes. 00:15:04.74\00:15:07.34 So, we are going to do them a little differently today. 00:15:07.37\00:15:09.79 We are going to use blue corn meal. Fun? 00:15:09.82\00:15:13.18 Yes isn't that fun? Yeah. And they won't turn out 00:15:13.21\00:15:16.20 blue although the cornmeal is a blue color, 00:15:16.23\00:15:19.31 but they will have a pretty color to them, but the blue 00:15:19.85\00:15:22.98 corn meal actually has 20 grams of fiber in every cup. 00:15:23.01\00:15:27.79 20? 20. The oat groats has 16 percent. Yes 16, 20, 00:15:27.82\00:15:32.64 wow, it's incredible. And I am telling you this is 00:15:32.67\00:15:34.99 the way to start your day, lot's of fiber. 00:15:35.02\00:15:37.03 Because you know, then you feel good the rest 00:15:37.06\00:15:39.20 of the day. Sustains it, it keeps going. Exactly. 00:15:39.23\00:15:40.94 So, what we are going to do is we are going to take 00:15:41.66\00:15:43.17 the blue corn meal, we are gonna add a cup of that. 00:15:43.20\00:15:45.76 It is kind of blue, now where can you get the blue 00:15:45.79\00:15:47.02 corn meal, in the grocery store? In health food stores 00:15:47.05\00:15:48.74 yes in the health food stores. You go to 00:15:48.77\00:15:49.90 health food store, but I have never seen 00:15:49.93\00:15:51.66 health food store yet that doesn't have it or they 00:15:51.69\00:15:54.21 can't get it if you requested that. You could 00:15:54.24\00:15:57.00 ask right. Now our flour, our whole grain 00:15:57.03\00:15:59.46 flour is actually prairie gold, however, you could 00:15:59.49\00:16:03.99 use either you know just regular whole wheat flour 00:16:04.02\00:16:07.99 you could spelt flour. Oh, yeah. If you are 00:16:08.02\00:16:10.84 gluten free, this is an a great gluten free recipe 00:16:10.87\00:16:14.56 because instead of the flour you could use buckwheat. 00:16:15.03\00:16:17.84 Yes. Or you could use double the amount 00:16:17.87\00:16:20.62 of the cornmeal and so then you would make that would be 00:16:20.65\00:16:23.78 a gluten free pancake. What about rice flour? 00:16:23.81\00:16:25.63 Can you use that or that doesn't work so good on 00:16:25.66\00:16:27.32 pancakes. I think rice flour would work well for the 00:16:27.35\00:16:29.25 gluten free people here also. I have not tried it 00:16:29.28\00:16:31.80 with the rice flour, but I don't know why 00:16:31.83\00:16:33.33 you couldn't. It's a real versatile pancake recipe, 00:16:33.36\00:16:36.28 that's good I like that. Alright. 00:16:36.31\00:16:37.84 And so then we are going to add some milk, 00:16:37.87\00:16:41.15 now this happens to be that hemp milk again, oh yes, 00:16:41.18\00:16:44.57 and I like a whisk to stir my pancake' flour 00:16:44.60\00:16:48.63 We have a little bit of olive oil that goes 00:16:49.28\00:16:51.39 in the recipe, however, the recipe can be made with 00:16:51.42\00:16:55.18 Tahini or a peanut butter if you prefer to not use 00:16:55.21\00:16:58.62 the olive oil. Okay. And we have got a little bit of 00:16:58.65\00:17:01.11 sweetener. Our sweetener today is honey. 00:17:01.14\00:17:03.56 Okay. We will add that, now could you add 00:17:03.59\00:17:06.13 the maple syrup too. You could do maple syrup, 00:17:06.16\00:17:08.26 absolutely. Honey or maple syrup are pretty 00:17:08.29\00:17:10.09 interchangeable with the exception of if it's 00:17:10.12\00:17:13.13 something that's got a lot of lemon in it then do like 00:17:13.16\00:17:16.42 to use the honey because it goes well with the lemon. 00:17:16.45\00:17:18.42 Yes, right. Okay and then we are gonna have a little salt 00:17:18.45\00:17:22.60 and I always like to use Featherweight Baking Powder. 00:17:23.26\00:17:28.44 Yes, that's what I use it at home. 00:17:28.47\00:17:30.31 I love the Featherweight. Now, 00:17:30.34\00:17:31.31 why would you use that versus other types of 00:17:32.22\00:17:33.19 baking powder? I like it because it's not 00:17:33.20\00:17:35.43 a sodium bicarbonate. It's a potassium bicarbonate, 00:17:35.46\00:17:38.54 so it's not. What's the difference? 00:17:38.57\00:17:40.09 Well, I think it one. Sodium bicarbonate 00:17:40.32\00:17:43.17 and potassium bicarbonate. What's the difference? 00:17:43.20\00:17:44.78 Well the difference is that it's not going to be 00:17:44.81\00:17:47.30 as irritating to the lining of the stomach. 00:17:47.33\00:17:49.67 It also is aluminum free. And that's a very good 00:17:50.21\00:17:55.32 plus, exactly. Now because it isn't 00:17:55.35\00:17:58.67 sodium bicarbonate you have to use a little bit 00:17:58.70\00:18:01.77 more and it is a liquid it's activated as it hits 00:18:01.80\00:18:05.50 the liquid and so we add it last to the batter. 00:18:05.53\00:18:10.57 Because you don't want it to fizzle up and then go 00:18:10.60\00:18:12.22 flat before you have been put it on your griddle head. 00:18:12.25\00:18:14.26 Exactly. So, when I'm making this recipe Jill 00:18:14.29\00:18:18.48 for a big group of people like frequently we will 00:18:18.51\00:18:20.94 have 75 kids some kind of gathering that want pancakes 00:18:20.97\00:18:25.66 for breakfast. It's pretty serious. 00:18:25.69\00:18:27.44 Gets serious, we will do at times standard 15 batch 00:18:28.03\00:18:31.38 of pancakes. I don't increase the 00:18:31.41\00:18:33.94 Featherweight that much. Yes. At that point, 00:18:33.97\00:18:36.97 I look at my recipe and if I have 20 cups of flour 00:18:37.00\00:18:41.20 I might use five cups or excuse me five tablespoons 00:18:41.23\00:18:45.00 of the Featherweight, but we are not going to do 00:18:45.03\00:18:48.19 10 tablespoons right. Okay. We just wanted to be 00:18:49.50\00:18:52.84 careful with that. Yes. Okay and so then 00:18:52.87\00:18:55.91 what we are gonna do is just cook them like we cook 00:18:55.94\00:18:57.67 pancakes. Yes. Right, yummy. We put them 00:18:57.70\00:19:00.55 on the grill. It's good and hot, I can feel it. 00:19:00.58\00:19:02.45 It's good and hot, yeah. This is I love to make 00:19:02.48\00:19:05.38 pancakes. It's sort of relaxing. Yes, it's sort of 00:19:05.41\00:19:09.39 one of those nice, oh yeah, mindless kind of things 00:19:10.08\00:19:13.47 to stand and put pancakes. Absolutely. In our house, 00:19:13.50\00:19:16.40 when we have pancakes my husband always flips them 00:19:16.43\00:19:18.33 that's his contribution, so I make the batter 00:19:18.36\00:19:20.80 and I get everything else ready and he is always 00:19:20.83\00:19:22.52 flipping pancakes for me so Yeah. That's real nice. 00:19:22.55\00:19:25.72 Isn't that pretty, it's still, it's a little blue. 00:19:26.45\00:19:28.36 It's a little blue, but it's not gonna be real blue 00:19:28.63\00:19:30.32 when they are finished cooking. It reminds you 00:19:30.35\00:19:32.25 almost like little blueberry pancakes. 00:19:32.28\00:19:33.64 Exactly and you know that's a good point that brings up 00:19:33.96\00:19:36.13 a good point. We could if you wanted, 00:19:36.16\00:19:38.70 stick some fresh blueberries and rightly before we would 00:19:39.39\00:19:42.36 flip them over and then you would have a blueberry 00:19:42.39\00:19:44.05 pancake. I would like that; that sounds really good. 00:19:44.08\00:19:46.37 Yes, doesn't that sound good? Yeah, or you could 00:19:46.40\00:19:47.70 stick raspberries too, have you tried with raspberries? 00:19:47.73\00:19:49.97 I haven't tried with raspberries, but we are 00:19:50.19\00:19:51.86 going to find raspberry fruit sauce. Ohhhh, yummy. 00:19:51.89\00:19:55.05 That sounds' good? That sounds real good. 00:19:55.08\00:19:56.85 And I have to tell you that this pancake griddle 00:19:57.37\00:19:58.95 we are using today is a Wal-Mart or target 00:19:58.98\00:20:02.39 special, these are so inexpensive and there is 00:20:02.42\00:20:04.97 no reason gentlemen why your wife shouldn't have 00:20:05.00\00:20:06.87 one. So, go out and get mom one because this makes 00:20:06.90\00:20:11.91 making pancakes so much fun. Oh yeah absolutely. 00:20:11.94\00:20:15.01 So we got those brown base, oh yeah. 00:20:15.90\00:20:17.48 And you right when they cooked, you can see 00:20:17.78\00:20:19.15 the blue it on, the blue kind of It comes out, 00:20:19.18\00:20:21.35 comes out. Now just actually look just kind 00:20:21.38\00:20:25.40 a like pancake at this point. They are looking 00:20:25.43\00:20:27.47 really good. Don't they look good? Yeah. I just love this 00:20:27.50\00:20:31.47 recipe. This is really my favorite pancake recipe. 00:20:31.50\00:20:34.39 And I like pancakes with fruit sauce on it 00:20:35.04\00:20:36.69 because I mean you always have the syrup 00:20:36.72\00:20:37.93 in this and that, but it's nice to have fruit sauce. 00:20:37.96\00:20:40.18 You think that's also a shaker and stuff too 00:20:40.71\00:20:42.11 and yet is good for you. Exactly and my favorite 00:20:42.14\00:20:45.49 thing to do is to add a little bit just have a 00:20:45.52\00:20:48.01 little thin peanut butter and then the fruit sauce 00:20:48.04\00:20:51.35 and then I have a little surprise that we will put 00:20:52.39\00:20:54.59 on top at the end to show everybody. 00:20:54.62\00:20:57.04 You are not gonna tell me? Not yet just hang in, 00:20:57.07\00:20:59.40 just hang in there. I want to know. Okay. 00:20:59.43\00:21:00.79 I will show you we have got a real fun surprise. 00:21:01.22\00:21:03.46 Oh, Good. So we will go ahead and get these 00:21:03.49\00:21:05.98 off of here and they look good and then rose up, 00:21:06.01\00:21:09.75 they rose is that the word. Yes, they rose, 00:21:09.78\00:21:13.74 proper English. The featherweight did its job. 00:21:13.77\00:21:17.72 Yes, the featherweight did what it was supposed to do. 00:21:17.75\00:21:20.07 Good. Let's read our recipe for the fruit sauce that we 00:21:20.10\00:21:22.85 are gonna put on these pancakes. For the fruit 00:21:22.88\00:21:25.64 sauce you need one can juice concentrate, one can of 00:21:25.67\00:21:29.02 water, one package frozen berries and one quarter cup 00:21:29.05\00:21:32.78 cornstarch. Well look at our fruit sauce 00:21:32.81\00:21:36.85 here I like this with the raspberries. 00:21:36.88\00:21:38.42 Yes, I am excited to make this because I think you 00:21:38.45\00:21:40.69 really like it. Oh, Yeah. This is very simple again 00:21:40.72\00:21:43.24 because like I said breakfast has to be fast, 00:21:43.77\00:21:45.50 it has to be simple, so we are going to use 00:21:45.53\00:21:48.09 Welch's one hundred percent white grape juice, 00:21:48.86\00:21:51.66 we wanna make sure it says one hundred percent. 00:21:51.69\00:21:54.02 I tell my husband if it doesn't say that don't 00:21:54.60\00:21:56.25 buy it because there is another one that looks like 00:21:56.28\00:21:58.26 this it says cocktail. 00:21:58.29\00:22:00.08 There is and we don't want the cocktail. Okay. 00:22:00.32\00:22:03.01 So, here we go that came off, I was hoping I was 00:22:03.60\00:22:07.42 going to have grip it with my teeth, I have done it. 00:22:07.45\00:22:10.18 Okay, if you wouldn't mind getting me one can of water. 00:22:11.72\00:22:14.83 Yeah. So, we are just going to add one can of water 00:22:16.43\00:22:18.20 and then we will add the cornstarch and we will bring 00:22:18.71\00:22:21.54 this to a boil. And it just works quite nicely. 00:22:21.57\00:22:26.12 Oh yeah. Put this on the stove, add our cornstarch 00:22:26.99\00:22:30.50 and stir it up. You don't want any lumps in there. 00:22:32.05\00:22:39.42 Jill, you know, you don't want lumps, yes, 00:22:39.45\00:22:41.06 and this will work as long as everything is not hot, 00:22:41.09\00:22:43.82 yes. Once your liquid is high you will end up 00:22:44.29\00:22:46.56 with lumps, absolutely. Yeah, alright so we will 00:22:46.59\00:22:50.05 get this to boil and then Jill all we do is add our 00:22:50.08\00:22:55.79 our package of raspberries. Yeah. Now have you done 00:22:55.82\00:22:58.22 with other types of berries, it will work quite well 00:22:58.25\00:23:00.53 with blueberries for some reasons strawberries 00:23:00.56\00:23:03.36 not so good. Not so good. 00:23:04.31\00:23:05.43 Right I think that isn't just not enough flavor 00:23:05.46\00:23:07.79 for the strawberries, but with raspberries 00:23:07.82\00:23:10.47 and blueberries it's quite nice. Good. Yes. Yeah. 00:23:10.50\00:23:13.62 I think you will like it and it makes for a beautiful 00:23:13.65\00:23:15.85 pancake. Something else that we do also do with 00:23:15.88\00:23:19.04 this fruit sauce you can put it over an angel food 00:23:19.07\00:23:22.04 type of cake; that sounds good. Yes, it's wonderful 00:23:22.07\00:23:24.89 that why, or like anything deserts. We use it for 00:23:24.92\00:23:26.91 Tofu cheesecakes; that sounds yummy. 00:23:26.94\00:23:30.34 Now you have all these recipes there in your 00:23:30.62\00:23:31.97 Veggies.
