Mostly you are probably familiar with what we 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.95 called a Potato Pot, but today we're gonna to show 00:00:02.96\00:00:05.50 you how to do Potato Pot in the Crok Pot. 00:00:05.53\00:00:08.07 Hello friends and welcome to Let's Cook Together. 00:00:39.42\00:00:42.07 I'm your host Jill Morikone and we're excited about 00:00:42.41\00:00:44.88 the program that we have plan for you today. 00:00:44.91\00:00:47.03 I have a special guest, a friend of mine here from 00:00:47.06\00:00:49.59 Michigan. Welcome JoAnn thank you Jill. 00:00:49.62\00:00:51.70 Your name is JoAnn Rachor, Rachor that's right 00:00:51.73\00:00:54.41 tell our friends at home just a little bit about your 00:00:54.44\00:00:56.87 ministry and what you do before we get cooking today. 00:00:56.90\00:00:58.97 Well, started out probably almost 25 years ago where 00:00:59.00\00:01:04.34 my husband and I did some traveling and we 00:01:04.37\00:01:07.77 would teach cooking classes in different states 00:01:07.80\00:01:10.17 in lot of different cities. We spend like 00:01:10.20\00:01:11.78 five months in Florida one time. 00:01:11.81\00:01:13.36 Are you serious? It was a great way to spend 00:01:13.70\00:01:14.86 the winter oh I would like that because 00:01:14.89\00:01:16.73 there was lot of work. Yes, anyway we just 00:01:16.76\00:01:19.03 traveled all over and taught cooking classes and 00:01:19.06\00:01:21.45 so it's just grow and since then and actually I started 00:01:22.78\00:01:27.12 before I met him but then when he and I got to do it 00:01:27.15\00:01:30.60 together it was fun, that's fun it's always nice to do 00:01:30.63\00:01:32.80 work with somebody to yeah I like that yeah. 00:01:32.83\00:01:34.48 Now your husband is a pastor now so you have 00:01:34.72\00:01:36.41 more stable job, you're not traveling as much over. 00:01:36.44\00:01:38.68 Right, I don't really traveled quite so much. 00:01:38.71\00:01:40.35 I have a business at home okay and so you know that 00:01:40.38\00:01:43.93 keeps me there too. Yes what you do with your 00:01:43.96\00:01:46.05 business? Well I'm a publisher, I sell books and 00:01:46.08\00:01:49.74 I have several different titles of books on cooking 00:01:49.77\00:01:53.66 and natural remedies that I sell. Oh that's nee, now 00:01:53.69\00:01:56.64 you have a couple cook books yourself right that's right. 00:01:56.67\00:01:58.88 That's right what cook books do you have? 00:01:58.91\00:02:00.31 Well the one that I have had for a long times since 00:02:00.34\00:02:03.76 80's is Freely Eat and then the one there is just been 00:02:03.79\00:02:08.84 out for about a couple of years over last since fast 00:02:08.87\00:02:11.48 cooking in a slow cooker everyday of the year. 00:02:11.51\00:02:13.90 That's nee that's like Crock Pot recipes right yep. 00:02:13.93\00:02:16.80 Now these are the recipes that we're gonna to be 00:02:16.83\00:02:18.73 talking about today yep baking Potato in that, 00:02:18.76\00:02:21.91 that's right yeah we're gonna to use recipes 00:02:21.94\00:02:23.45 actually from both books okay because we're gonna 00:02:23.48\00:02:25.52 talk about some simple toppings that you can put 00:02:25.55\00:02:27.76 on potatoes so we're gonna show how to do the 00:02:27.79\00:02:29.90 potatoes in the Crock Pot but we're gonna to show 00:02:29.93\00:02:32.64 start out with three different toppings okay 00:02:32.67\00:02:35.49 that come from the Freely Eat Cook book right and 00:02:35.52\00:02:37.63 then we move into the Crock Pot. How do you 00:02:37.66\00:02:39.42 get involved in interest in doing Crock Pot cooking? 00:02:39.45\00:02:42.21 Well, started I bought I would say it's about 6 00:02:42.24\00:02:45.82 years ago and I my husband suggested, 00:02:45.85\00:02:50.04 I work on a new cook book and so we decided 00:02:50.07\00:02:52.72 I decided that was going to be on slow cooking 00:02:52.75\00:02:54.92 that's really and actually in such a major production 00:02:55.50\00:02:59.93 from it because I found that you know parts all 00:02:59.96\00:03:03.26 cooked at differently and in fact in the beginning 00:03:03.29\00:03:06.02 I would put one pot into the same outlet different 00:03:06.05\00:03:09.45 pots and I couldn't understand why is this 00:03:09.48\00:03:12.01 taking 8 hours in this one pot and I plug in another 00:03:12.04\00:03:15.53 one to the same outlet and in this one it takes 6 hours, 00:03:15.56\00:03:18.96 I thought oh my electrical system is not working 00:03:18.99\00:03:22.11 right, right, but then I soon discover it was my pot so 00:03:22.14\00:03:25.44 there on not all created equally wow and so that's 00:03:25.47\00:03:29.08 kind of what started. That's nee, that's even kind 00:03:29.11\00:03:31.29 of like your Oven, I mean if you put stuff in the 00:03:31.32\00:03:32.91 Oven yeah some people say put it at 350 and 00:03:32.94\00:03:35.41 maybe my oven it would burn and maybe yours that 00:03:35.44\00:03:37.15 wouldn't burn or something right exactly so there is 00:03:37.18\00:03:38.65 there is variation in that. Yeah there is variation 00:03:38.68\00:03:40.34 wow, that's so and then it took me probably with the 00:03:40.37\00:03:44.16 slow cooker book was about five years of working 00:03:44.19\00:03:46.71 on it and most of that time, I was taking care of 00:03:46.74\00:03:49.73 my mother ,who was in our Home with us and she 00:03:49.76\00:03:52.40 had Alzheimer's and oh sorry you know yeah but it 00:03:52.43\00:03:55.91 was precious, it was very special and I would not 00:03:55.94\00:03:58.34 have had anything different about that I just 00:03:58.37\00:04:00.31 thank to Lord, but I could have them with us and yes 00:04:00.34\00:04:03.34 and then I but I had this prayer right along that you 00:04:03.73\00:04:06.81 know that I can get through this book because 00:04:06.84\00:04:08.72 it just seem like it was taking for elder and I just 00:04:08.75\00:04:12.29 pray that I can have it done before my mom died 00:04:12.32\00:04:15.13 because she was she was really going down hill and 00:04:15.16\00:04:19.96 then it just the Lord worked it out so that the 00:04:19.99\00:04:22.62 day before she died, I got my first shipment of books 00:04:22.65\00:04:25.75 oh so he answered my prayer Amen! and we had 00:04:25.78\00:04:28.74 a very I mean her death was very special to me 00:04:28.77\00:04:31.78 very peaceful. Right that's good into the suffering 00:04:31.81\00:04:34.28 that's a blessing yeah okay. Well we're making 00:04:34.31\00:04:36.66 let's make toppings okay just start with 00:04:36.69\00:04:38.05 our toppings right yep. We're gonna to start with 00:04:38.08\00:04:39.43 a Tasty Sesame Topping okay you want to read that 00:04:39.46\00:04:42.68 recipe for us sure and so that for the 00:04:42.71\00:04:45.05 ingredients you want 1 c. toasted sesame seeds 00:04:45.08\00:04:48.53 1/4 c. yeast flakes 1 tsp. onion powder 00:04:48.56\00:04:53.42 1 tsp. salt ½ tsp. garlic powder 00:04:53.82\00:04:57.32 alright that's nice and easy I like that. 00:04:57.35\00:04:59.34 Yes alright okay so what we're gonna to do here is 00:04:59.95\00:05:03.54 first of all I want to tell you how to toast your 00:05:03.57\00:05:05.44 sesame seeds okay and you want to use like 00:05:05.47\00:05:09.30 Skillet as dry that you can toast them dry okay you 00:05:10.21\00:05:11.69 there in the Skillet in our sauce pan you don't want 00:05:11.72\00:05:14.04 to use the skillet that has like a non-stick topping 00:05:14.07\00:05:17.74 and you know saying right on the Teflon coated 00:05:17.77\00:05:19.35 there is something, no you really won't because 00:05:19.38\00:05:20.57 I guess that dry heat it produces some fumes and 00:05:20.60\00:05:23.97 it can just be a little bit toxic I didn't know that so 00:05:24.00\00:05:27.66 it's better to use stainless steel type pan yes okay 00:05:27.69\00:05:31.06 and so they take maybe 5 or 10 minutes on about a 00:05:31.09\00:05:33.76 medium, medium high heat to get a nice golden 00:05:33.79\00:05:36.13 brown would you want to stir or yeah you should 00:05:36.16\00:05:38.25 keep there that's burning yeah, yeah, yeah but there 00:05:38.28\00:05:40.78 those toast pretty quickly okay good and then you're 00:05:40.81\00:05:43.37 gonna to put your sesame seeds in the blender now 00:05:43.40\00:05:46.70 there is already toasted them so these are toasted 00:05:46.73\00:05:48.71 one okay and then the yeast flakes it sometimes 00:05:48.74\00:05:51.32 it's called nutritional yeast sometimes called food 00:05:51.35\00:05:53.59 yeast sometimes red star, but it's gives a really nice 00:05:53.62\00:05:58.58 it's not beverages which is more better yes in flavor 00:05:59.28\00:06:02.08 so the food yeast because that are nice cheesy flavor 00:06:02.54\00:06:05.36 for our friends at home they can get that in the 00:06:05.39\00:06:06.94 health food store yep, yep okay and then there is our 00:06:06.97\00:06:10.33 garlic and onion and some salt and so the idea here is 00:06:10.36\00:06:15.75 such as just got to put in the blender and grind it 00:06:15.78\00:06:18.74 out there is no water no. okay because this one is, 00:06:18.77\00:06:22.46 is this the a dry, a dry topping that 00:06:22.49\00:06:24.52 topping that you're gonna sprinkle on okay 00:06:24.55\00:06:26.73 and it's almost done you can see that yeah it just 00:06:37.04\00:06:41.27 few seeds in there but she just keep grinding and up 00:06:41.30\00:06:43.50 in that and it gets it's really nice and smooth yeah 00:06:43.53\00:06:47.92 so you would way into the season told him around 00:06:47.95\00:06:49.57 you don't want pieces and stuff like that. 00:06:49.60\00:06:51.15 Well even if you had a few pieces it's 00:06:51.76\00:06:53.14 the good that sounds that are the well yeah, okay 00:06:53.17\00:06:54.53 that's good I mean Tasty Sesame Seeds 00:06:54.56\00:06:56.70 are delicious it really I can smell it yeah and you can 00:06:56.73\00:07:00.06 use now there is were at white ones they once 00:07:00.09\00:07:02.74 they once with the holes taken off which you can 00:07:02.77\00:07:04.15 use the white ones or the brown ones, the brown 00:07:04.18\00:07:05.94 ones would have a higher calcium level to them 00:07:05.97\00:07:07.88 I didn't even know the health calcium so that's 00:07:08.67\00:07:10.48 good yeah. Good okay what topping now we're 00:07:10.51\00:07:13.32 making next okay for the next one would be our 00:07:13.35\00:07:15.75 Tofu Sour Cream good for Tofu Sour Cream we need 00:07:15.78\00:07:19.46 1 pkg. Mori-Nu tofu firm, 12.3oz size 00:07:19.49\00:07:24.34 1/3 c. raw cashews 1/3 c. water 00:07:24.84\00:07:29.39 1 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. lemon juice 00:07:30.15\00:07:34.23 1 tsp. onion powder 1/2 garlic powder. 00:07:34.72\00:07:39.23 Okay Jill now we're gonna to make a Tofu Sour Cream 00:07:41.49\00:07:43.97 and the other topping for our Potato Bar and I think 00:07:44.51\00:07:47.01 it's important and now how to do Tofu Sour Cream 00:07:47.04\00:07:49.10 yeah you know because Sour Cream you know it 00:07:49.13\00:07:51.15 so easy to get in the store and stuff but maybe that's 00:07:51.18\00:07:52.96 not necessary to healthy. So, it's good to have an 00:07:52.99\00:07:55.04 alternative yes the taste good okay great. 00:07:55.07\00:07:57.71 Well we're gonna just to put all the ingredients 00:07:57.93\00:07:59.68 right in the blender and if you wan to start out with 00:07:59.71\00:08:01.97 your Tofu and I like to use the this is Mori-Nu 00:08:02.00\00:08:06.22 that's the brand name, but it needs to be a silken type 00:08:06.25\00:08:09.44 tofu, okay, because it will just give smoother 00:08:09.47\00:08:12.25 consistency at the end, and you don't want to say 00:08:13.06\00:08:14.88 water packed type of Tofu that you can get and in the 00:08:14.91\00:08:16.87 Grocery Store and people won't do that sometimes 00:08:16.90\00:08:19.48 and that's okay but this is a really nice smooth 00:08:19.51\00:08:22.49 consistency okay. So, we're just put all our ingredients 00:08:22.52\00:08:25.65 in or water and these are some raw cashews and 00:08:25.68\00:08:30.13 then you can use the lemon juice can be fresh 00:08:30.16\00:08:33.12 or it can be can't okay fresh taste really nice but 00:08:33.15\00:08:36.06 it does I don't lot of times use that right it's 00:08:36.09\00:08:39.99 convenience too yeah there is our salt and so 00:08:40.02\00:08:43.36 then the onion and the garlic powder okay now 00:08:43.39\00:08:47.27 the key with this is that specially when you using 00:08:47.55\00:08:50.34 this type of Tofu yes is that you want to blend 00:08:50.37\00:08:53.33 for a long time if you blend it past stage of 00:08:53.36\00:08:57.65 smoothness because of course you want the 00:08:57.68\00:08:59.57 cashews to get smooth while its blending yes but 00:08:59.60\00:09:02.10 if you keep blending this for like a couple of 00:09:02.13\00:09:04.64 minutes it will this type of tofu will make a lighter 00:09:04.67\00:09:07.99 texture to it yeah it will lighten up and it's really 00:09:08.71\00:09:11.75 nice so the longer you blend it then the lighter 00:09:12.93\00:09:15.83 again yeah and that's really yeah okay so here 00:09:15.86\00:09:19.72 we go high, medium, low, start with 00:09:19.75\00:09:22.26 low then you can go up. 00:09:22.29\00:09:23.72 Now do you stir it or well you don't stir it unless it 00:09:34.49\00:09:37.43 needs to okay and since it still going through the 00:09:37.46\00:09:40.43 blades I just let it go right okay if in the air pack it 00:09:40.46\00:09:43.50 develops in there then I'll stop and I'll stir it trying 00:09:43.53\00:09:46.02 to work on that yeah, yeah. Now if you like me and 00:09:46.05\00:09:48.37 you have a blender like my blender at home 00:09:48.40\00:09:50.41 it maybe you would have blender quite well yeah. 00:09:50.44\00:09:52.59 Yeah, that's true, that's true but that's really all 00:09:52.62\00:09:56.28 there is too late and okay you know and I have 00:09:56.31\00:09:58.48 found sometimes people ask me hold onto this 00:09:58.51\00:10:00.48 things keep and what I've found is as a away that 00:10:00.51\00:10:04.78 I do things at home is that yes put these like maybe 00:10:04.81\00:10:08.73 the Sour Cream or put in the couple of different 00:10:08.76\00:10:10.48 containers so that I keep one in the Refrigerator 00:10:10.51\00:10:13.82 until the first one is empty and that way you know 00:10:13.85\00:10:17.66 these were the key for easily we can have to two 00:10:17.69\00:10:21.29 weeks it's just when we take things out and set 00:10:21.32\00:10:24.02 them on the counter or you know on the table and 00:10:24.05\00:10:26.06 let them sit for an hour yes and maybe we've clear the 00:10:26.09\00:10:28.90 table afterwards but the fruits still sitting there 00:10:28.93\00:10:31.30 then things spoil more quickly but you can easily 00:10:31.71\00:10:35.07 keep this okay you know if you're Refrigerator 00:10:35.10\00:10:37.87 temperature is at a good temperature you know 00:10:37.90\00:10:39.79 right it last right you're saying that you wouldn't 00:10:39.82\00:10:42.25 want to serve all of the Tofu Sour Cream on the 00:10:42.28\00:10:44.55 table at once keep some back unless you're gonna 00:10:44.58\00:10:46.59 to eat at all yeah right. Alright we have a Crock 00:12:38.11\00:12:40.95 Pots here and so this anything special about 00:12:40.98\00:12:44.77 this Crock Pot? No, nothing special about it 00:12:44.80\00:12:48.01 you can use any size that you want and what we're 00:12:48.04\00:12:49.95 gonna that's nice as I said we're gonna start with 00:12:49.98\00:12:51.64 sweat potatoes or commonly Yams there is 00:12:51.67\00:12:54.76 another common term for them and I like this 00:12:54.79\00:13:00.08 because you can make delicious sweat potatoes 00:13:00.11\00:13:03.43 this way you know I've made them in the oven 00:13:03.46\00:13:06.27 I've kind of to had a mess in the Pan you know 00:13:06.30\00:13:09.11 I don't know if you've had that problem all that 00:13:09.14\00:13:11.03 I and then my husband grow exactly oops I better 00:13:11.06\00:13:13.35 clear so he says sweaty doesn't but yeah makes 00:13:13.38\00:13:15.68 them nice. Well so like this with way you don't 00:13:15.71\00:13:17.53 have any mess it cleans about so easily and when 00:13:17.56\00:13:21.06 the potatoes are done they come out with a nice firm 00:13:21.09\00:13:23.96 skin but the inside there is bright orange and the 00:13:23.99\00:13:26.96 inside soft too yeah wow this is inside really nice 00:13:26.99\00:13:30.45 and soft. Now I preferred to do them on high that's 00:13:30.48\00:13:33.41 the way you keep the best color okay with your 00:13:33.44\00:13:35.53 sweat potatoes instead of doing and on look, right 00:13:35.56\00:13:38.62 okay, it's always, it's kind of fast project but you 00:13:38.65\00:13:40.96 can't set a timer for this yes we have like I talked 00:13:40.99\00:13:43.87 about earlier in different show that you can use 00:13:43.90\00:13:47.33 one of this lamp appliance timers where can you get 00:13:47.36\00:13:50.04 one of these timers you know hardware store and 00:13:50.07\00:13:52.58 department store there is a lot of varieties of different 00:13:52.61\00:13:55.42 appliance timers okay and there are pretty and 00:13:55.45\00:13:57.89 expensive you can get them for $10 or $15. 00:13:57.92\00:14:00.28 You just go and ask for Lamp Appliance yeah, 00:14:00.31\00:14:02.48 you just gonna want to have one Crock Pot without one. 00:14:02.51\00:14:05.40 Right, well I have a Crock Pot without ones so 00:14:05.43\00:14:08.02 I better go out and buy myself a Lamp Appliance 00:14:08.05\00:14:09.80 you know some people buy the past set 00:14:10.26\00:14:13.34 called programmable okay but I like to use on a 00:14:13.37\00:14:17.09 appliance timer because then I can make my pot 00:14:17.12\00:14:19.71 programmable and I can have it common and turn 00:14:19.74\00:14:23.32 off anytime that I like that's pretty fancy yes, yes. 00:14:23.35\00:14:26.65 So, then that we its nice and done and hot when 00:14:26.68\00:14:29.04 you get home instead of having to wait it's already 00:14:29.07\00:14:31.24 cool down or it's not cooked to start it out for 00:14:31.27\00:14:33.12 something yeah right. Now where can you get 00:14:33.15\00:14:35.51 a Crock Pot? Oh you can get Crock Pot again any 00:14:35.54\00:14:40.25 Store, okay any Department Store that 00:14:40.28\00:14:41.94 sells kitchen items okay you'll get a Crock Pot 00:14:41.97\00:14:44.36 I got mine at Walmart, okay, yeah okay, and lot 00:14:44.39\00:14:46.89 of times they are on sail because they are so 00:14:46.92\00:14:48.08 common yes. Now where you want to here is that 00:14:48.11\00:14:51.07 you are going to you're gonna to just do like one 00:14:51.10\00:14:53.91 potato or you can do two or three you can fill up 00:14:53.94\00:14:57.58 any size pot that you have all the way if you're gonna 00:14:57.61\00:15:00.75 to feed a lot of people okay, but like I said you 00:15:00.78\00:15:02.87 can even just do one potato in here, okay 00:15:02.90\00:15:05.04 because that make it different the length the 00:15:05.07\00:15:06.41 time how many potatoes right in there a little bit but 00:15:06.44\00:15:08.62 before you start that you clean your potato yes and 00:15:08.65\00:15:12.48 if it has bad spots you can cut those out but you do 00:15:12.51\00:15:14.83 not plug you potato or else you do is scrub your 00:15:14.86\00:15:17.53 potato and put it in the pot okay and then you want to 00:15:17.56\00:15:20.09 add some water and you can just put since there is 00:15:20.12\00:15:22.58 only these three potatoes in here I'm gonna to put 00:15:22.61\00:15:24.84 about half a cup of water in here, if you have a 00:15:24.87\00:15:27.64 whole pot full you might want to put 3/4 of cup of 00:15:27.67\00:15:30.30 water okay and then what for more or that's good 00:15:30.33\00:15:32.29 no that's good that's good and then this water helps 00:15:32.32\00:15:36.11 to steam the potatoes yeah and so that makes the 00:15:36.14\00:15:39.38 skins stay nice and as it cooks since so if fine that 00:15:39.41\00:15:43.20 you've run out of water in there then like if you have 00:15:43.23\00:15:46.41 an extra fast pot right and just in case it runs out 00:15:46.44\00:15:49.51 I have had times where I'll add a little bit more water 00:15:50.60\00:15:53.17 but I heat the water up first okay I don't put cold 00:15:53.20\00:15:56.62 water in hot pot what happens you might have a 00:15:56.65\00:15:59.95 crack pot oh really okay and they kind of like put 00:15:59.98\00:16:03.18 your saying on top of the stove when the top they 00:16:03.21\00:16:04.77 say not to cook yeah because they might crack too. 00:16:04.80\00:16:06.42 Hot, cold don't they okay you know don't go to that, 00:16:06.45\00:16:08.95 that really well okay good. So, now these sweat 00:16:08.98\00:16:13.28 potatoes are gonna to take about 2 to 2 ½ hours if 00:16:13.31\00:16:17.41 you just have one of them okay but if you fill up 00:16:17.44\00:16:19.80 your pot it might be more like 3 to 3 ½ hours, on high 00:16:19.83\00:16:23.37 you said, on high because that keeps the color better 00:16:23.40\00:16:25.20 yep yeah good I more to hear I like this. 00:16:25.23\00:16:27.27 In fact you can show them with some match potatoes 00:16:27.30\00:16:30.78 nice it looks like you did like that you can see that 00:16:30.81\00:16:32.21 it's a nice bright color very pretty, yeah. 00:16:32.24\00:16:34.76 So, you cook that in the Crock Pot 00:16:34.79\00:16:35.90 that's really good. May know what size 00:16:35.93\00:16:37.56 in fact, if you want to I have recipes for like 00:16:37.59\00:16:39.87 Maple Almond Sweat Potato or other different 00:16:39.90\00:16:41.97 oh that sounds good where you peal them and cut them 00:16:42.00\00:16:44.27 off and then add other things to them it come out 00:16:44.30\00:16:47.05 delicious that's nee. Now how would our friends 00:16:47.08\00:16:49.11 at home know whether you have a Fast Crock Pot 00:16:49.14\00:16:51.43 or super fast crock pot or medium you know I mean, 00:16:51.46\00:16:54.59 I don't go super fast but I'd go 00:16:54.62\00:16:56.11 extra, extra fast, yeah, does reserve, okay 00:16:56.14\00:16:58.56 Some of my I call them average pots some are 00:16:58.59\00:17:01.14 X are fast pots and some are extra fast pots, 00:17:01.17\00:17:03.63 that's the word and extra fast and the way that I tell 00:17:03.66\00:17:06.15 is that I cook pound of beans like a pound of 00:17:06.18\00:17:08.38 Navy Beans and I put on low I cook them with 00:17:08.41\00:17:12.57 about 5 ½ cups of water and if they take 9 to 9 ½ 00:17:12.60\00:17:16.67 hours it's an average pot if they take 8 to 8½ hours 00:17:16.70\00:17:19.72 it's a fast pot and if takes 6 ½ to 7 hours 00:17:19.75\00:17:22.48 it's extra fast. Man that's nee, and it's just 00:17:22.51\00:17:24.80 helpful to know how fast your pots gonna 00:17:24.83\00:17:27.34 to cook you've done lot of experimentation 00:17:27.37\00:17:29.11 on that I have I really have absolutely yeah 00:17:29.14\00:17:30.79 you spend years doing that right? Yes. These are the 00:17:58.41\00:17:59.71 white potatoes and again you just clean 00:17:59.74\00:18:01.79 your potatoes and do not poke them if you poke 00:18:01.82\00:18:04.91 the potatoes it's gonna oxidize it's gonna leave 00:18:04.94\00:18:07.55 a little dark spot is not gonna to hurt anything 00:18:07.58\00:18:09.79 but it's just not gonna to look as pretty when you 00:18:09.82\00:18:11.74 cut them open and so we've got about a one 00:18:11.77\00:18:14.17 layer here a little bit more of potatoes in here 00:18:14.20\00:18:16.84 so you're gonna to add about a half a cup to 3/4 00:18:17.15\00:18:19.50 of the cup of water and turn your pot on high 00:18:19.53\00:18:23.56 again I like to cook white potatoes on high 00:18:23.59\00:18:25.55 okay because again it will keep a better color 00:18:25.58\00:18:28.38 if you do them on low then it's just gonna to be 00:18:28.41\00:18:30.43 a little Half White Tanish type color. 00:18:30.46\00:18:32.68 They don't keep for the white then, yeah 00:18:32.71\00:18:34.38 but this way they faced a nice in way and the 00:18:34.75\00:18:36.97 in the skin taste there is nice 00:18:37.00\00:18:38.82 and firm, oh that's nice yeah. And let's see if you 00:18:38.85\00:18:42.50 do like one layer of potatoes has been take 00:18:42.53\00:18:44.95 about 2 to 2 ½ hours okay but you can do a 00:18:44.98\00:18:47.86 whole pot full even a 6 Crock Pot you know 00:18:47.89\00:18:50.73 some thing if you have a big coming over, right 00:18:50.76\00:18:53.74 and it's gonna to be usually about 3 to 3 ½ hours. 00:18:53.77\00:18:56.47 Oh okay, so we really have to use your what 00:18:56.50\00:18:59.23 you call Lamp Appliance timers as what I call it. 00:18:59.26\00:19:01.41 yeah, yeah in fact it like if you let's says you're 00:19:01.44\00:19:03.33 going to church yes and you're gonna to have 00:19:03.36\00:19:05.00 company over yes then if you need to you set it 00:19:05.03\00:19:08.41 to a timer and I fixed meals for groups and 00:19:08.44\00:19:13.06 I can have food on the table in 15 minutes. 00:19:13.09\00:19:15.21 Man that's nice, yeah, and instead of having to 00:19:15.24\00:19:17.55 to wait around, yeah. Yeah well that would be 00:19:17.58\00:19:20.08 lack lot of memories for me my grandma were 00:19:20.11\00:19:21.76 used to I was go sometimes at Corridor 00:19:21.79\00:19:23.27 house for Sabbath dinner and stuff like. 00:19:23.30\00:19:25.28 So, that's was big potato it was like a staple and 00:19:25.31\00:19:27.58 every Sabbath then we always have big 00:19:27.61\00:19:28.99 potatoes and it's easy because then if you 00:19:29.02\00:19:30.48 know that on you know at the last minute the 00:19:30.51\00:19:33.21 more people are coming over right you can just 00:19:33.24\00:19:35.32 pull out our pot and put your potatoes in 00:19:35.35\00:19:37.30 there you know and it takes just a few minutes. 00:19:37.33\00:19:39.98 Yes now what's this aluminum foil for it that 00:19:40.01\00:19:42.38 anything special, okay well I have some foil 00:19:42.41\00:19:43.54 here and let's say that I my lid doesn't quite 00:19:43.57\00:19:48.85 fit on the top because I have so many potatoes 00:19:48.88\00:19:51.07 in there okay and so I'll used foil for a lid and 00:19:51.10\00:19:55.40 let's see I mean I've used this for a lot of different 00:19:55.43\00:19:59.86 reasons if I baking bread like you can bake bread 00:19:59.89\00:20:02.97 in a can let's say in a juice can if you want a 00:20:03.00\00:20:06.47 round low, are you serious yeah but your, 00:20:06.50\00:20:10.33 wow, your lid won't fit of course, yes, and so 00:20:10.36\00:20:13.23 then you would just cover yes the top with 00:20:13.26\00:20:16.41 the foil and two pieces of if necessary 00:20:16.44\00:20:19.60 and just crimp down the edges and it's ready to go. 00:20:19.63\00:20:24.61 You would you want anything like rubber 00:20:25.19\00:20:26.58 band or anything to hold it tight I've tried that 00:20:26.61\00:20:28.62 before but, it doesn't work, it's doesn't work 00:20:28.65\00:20:30.81 but it's kind of it's just more work then you 00:20:30.84\00:20:33.66 need to do you know foil works perfectly you 00:20:33.69\00:20:36.52 just tight it done yes in fact the heavy weight 00:20:36.55\00:20:39.24 foil you know that tightens up more but 00:20:39.27\00:20:42.34 this works fine. Oh yeah that's good. And so I've, 00:20:42.37\00:20:44.98 I've had these you know some times people were 00:20:45.30\00:20:47.55 lose their lids yes or crack their lids or 00:20:47.58\00:20:51.20 absolutely prop their tops or so you know 00:20:51.23\00:20:53.04 most anything, so this is handy, yeah alright. 00:20:53.07\00:20:56.09 We have another type over here yep we have 00:20:56.12\00:20:58.33 Spaghetti Squash right. Now this is a bigger 00:20:58.36\00:21:02.28 Crock Pot oops I got the cord here there we go. 00:21:02.31\00:21:06.07 Yes in our that you can do all kinds of Squash 00:21:06.78\00:21:09.78 and so this a Spaghetti Squash okay and there, 00:21:10.53\00:21:13.23 there just turn here that the Spaghetti Squash are 00:21:13.26\00:21:19.98 any of the squash is you just wash them and put 00:21:20.01\00:21:22.64 them in here and no water, no water because 00:21:22.67\00:21:24.92 squash has no water to it and so it'll actually have 00:21:24.95\00:21:28.70 juice in there by the time it's done cooking. 00:21:28.73\00:21:31.04 Right. And with the Spaghetti Squash I like 00:21:31.34\00:21:33.78 to just to wash it off and put it in hole you know 00:21:33.81\00:21:36.73 and put the lid on and bake it and it takes 00:21:36.76\00:21:38.88 maybe 3 hours just depending you can do it 00:21:38.91\00:21:41.53 on high or on low so it would longer if you did 00:21:41.56\00:21:44.62 it on low and so it does it's not as important to 00:21:44.65\00:21:46.94 say this sweat potatoes or the right the color 00:21:46.97\00:21:49.25 states finally that way bake white potatoes okay. 00:21:49.28\00:21:50.91 And if you have let's say Butternut Squash, 00:21:51.23\00:21:54.18 oh I love Butternut or Corn Squash, butternut 00:21:54.21\00:21:57.24 is my favorite. You can either do them hole and 00:21:57.27\00:22:00.27 again like with Butternut lot of times a 00:22:00.30\00:22:01.94 lid won't fit on there so you put the foil on but if 00:22:01.97\00:22:04.28 you don't want to do them hole you want to 00:22:04.31\00:22:05.50 cut them up you put them in cut and take the 00:22:05.53\00:22:08.04 seeds out and then again don't add any water, 00:22:08.07\00:22:12.28 because it has the water, yeah. Really, yep and 00:22:12.31\00:22:15.46 that let's see with this Spaghetti Squash if you 00:22:15.49\00:22:17.77 cook there let's say if I'm using an average 00:22:17.80\00:22:20.08 cooker on low it's gonna to take about 7 to 8 hours. 00:22:20.11\00:22:23.34 7 or 7 ½ hours, so its' quite well or if you cook 00:22:23.76\00:22:26.70 it on cook it on high its already more like about 00:22:26.73\00:22:28.66 3 ½ hours, but even this time of year like if it's 00:22:28.76\00:22:33.75 later in the season or let's say a few months 00:22:34.90\00:22:37.32 later you know how squash they get harder 00:22:37.35\00:22:39.42 oh yeah, that and so it might take longer for 00:22:39.45\00:22:42.00 this to get soft. Really wow so there is a lot of 00:22:42.03\00:22:44.88 very variables is that. Yeah you can just say 00:22:44.91\00:22:47.18 cut and dry this is the red isn't it yeah, right. 00:22:47.21\00:22:50.37 Wow okay well other kind of stuff can you 00:22:50.40\00:22:52.27 baking here? While there is a lot of different 00:22:52.30\00:22:55.13 vegetables that you can't do okay I have recipe 00:22:55.16\00:22:58.88 for and Eggplant Garlic Eggplant dish and it is 00:22:58.91\00:23:03.96 very good or one of my favorites is Baked 00:23:03.99\00:23:06.86 Garlic oh garlics is so good right baked in the 00:23:06.89\00:23:11.41 Crock Pot it makes the house really smell good, 00:23:11.44\00:23:13.88 yes, really I think so I think if you cooking 00:23:13.91\00:23:16.77 onions or garlic it makes the house smell good 00:23:16.80\00:23:18.79 and people come home and say ooh its smells 00:23:18.82\00:23:20.28 like your cooking but maybe I'm not doing 00:23:20.31\00:23:21.67 anything yeah there you go that in garlic makes 00:23:21.70\00:23:23.67 the smell you know, yes and so you can do 00:23:23.70\00:23:26.83 I preferred to go with root vegetables if 00:23:27.71\00:23:30.20 I'm going to add vegetables too like a 00:23:30.23\00:23:32.70 soup for a stoop the more watery type things 00:23:32.73\00:23:36.82 like green beans or peppers they don't do as 00:23:36.85\00:23:39.84 well for a long cooking but your carrots and 00:23:39.87\00:23:42.66 your potatoes and your sweat potatoes that the 00:23:42.69\00:23:45.80 more dense then it's work really well, work better. 00:23:45.83\00:23:48.19 Now when you say they don't do that do as well 00:23:48.22\00:23:49.50 for a long cooking does that mean they turned to 00:23:49.53\00:23:50.75 mush or and they learned lose their color 00:23:50.78\00:23:52.50 and sometimes the flavor becomes bitter 00:23:52.83\00:23:54.62 like Summer Squash I don't really care for 00:23:55.11\00:23:57.36 that, okay in the Crock Pot, yeah. So, you there 00:23:57.39\00:24:00.79 you can do of course soups are really 00:24:00.82\00:24:02.58 common beans in soups, oh yeah where we are 00:24:02.61\00:24:04.17 know about that, yeah beans is what I do in the 00:24:04.20\00:24:06.03 Crock Pot so that's need to learn, but I like to do 00:24:06.06\00:24:08.68 like deserts like Brownies or Date Nut Bar 00:24:09.90\00:24:15.35 now you're talking that sounds good you can even do 00:24:15.38\00:24:16.70 Ice Cream in the Crock Pot, Ice Cream in the 00:24:16.99\00:24:20.52 Crock Pot, yeah no way are you serious, yeah 00:24:20.55\00:24:23.40 and that's in your cook book, yes I got to get 00:24:23.43\00:24:25.30 your cook book yeah it does for wonder for in 00:24:25.33\00:24:27.69 the Crock Pot, I can't believe that. 00:24:27.72\00:24:28.93 You know, and I could believe that as a teaser 00:24:28.96\00:24:31.15 or I could be a little more you know honest 00:24:31.18\00:24:32.75 about this, but well maybe you could be 00:24:32.78\00:24:34.14 honest I'm waiting for that I make the sauce 00:24:34.17\00:24:37.30 I make the sauce in the Crock Pot I cook it 00:24:37.33\00:24:39.68 something I cook okay and then I put it like in 00:24:39.71\00:24:42.03 Ice Cream freezer okay because I'm thinking 00:24:42.06\00:24:44.80 I mean there the you know Crock Pot heats 00:24:44.83\00:24:46.75 things up yeah and you would have really 00:24:46.78\00:24:48.35 running Ice Cream or something so, yeah 00:24:48.38\00:24:50.22 so okay, and wow you can make Loafs like 00:24:50.38\00:24:54.86 on Oat loafs Tofu Loafs great there is just 00:24:54.89\00:25:00.80 endless you can take your favorite recipes 00:25:01.26\00:25:03.04 and you can adapt most any of your favorite 00:25:03.07\00:25:06.34 recipes just cut down on the liquid its a major 00:25:06.37\00:25:09.48 thing cut down on the liquid part and you can't 00:25:09.51\00:25:11.82 even putting insert in here let's say you take a 00:25:11.85\00:25:14.12 Cake Pan and 8 inch round Cake Pan and that 00:25:14.15\00:25:18.24 will fit in your bigger Pot and you can 00:25:18.27\00:25:20.40 bake in that, good.
