00:01 It's almost time for Kids' Time.
00:02 We're going to be late. 00:04 It's time to share there's a world out there 00:08 Looking for a friend like Jesus 00:12 It's time to share there's a world out there 00:16 Let's tell them that He loves us so 00:20 Let's tell them 00:21 That He loves us so 00:24 Kids' Time, Kids' Time Kids' Time, Kids' Time 00:28 Kids' Time 00:31 Hi, boys and girls, 00:32 I want to show you a picture of some beautiful fish. 00:35 Whenever I look at this picture, 00:37 all I can see is the blue fish. 00:40 The others, just, well, they blend together 00:42 because they're all the same color. 00:44 Did you know there are many places 00:46 in the Bible where fish are mentioned? 00:48 Genesis talks about how God created 00:50 all the fish in the sea, and there are stories 00:53 about Jesus' disciples catching fish in the Sea of Galilee, 00:56 and even King Solomon talked about fish, 00:59 but there's one special fish that stands out 01:02 like the blue fish in my picture, 01:04 not because of its color 01:06 but because it helped God 01:07 accomplish an important mission. 01:10 Our story today is about that special fish. 01:13 I can't wait for you to hear all about it, but first, 01:15 it's time for Nature Time. 01:25 Oh, hey, everyone, Rich Aguilera here, 01:28 I'm so happy to see you again. 01:29 As usual, I'm taking pictures of some of the amazing things 01:33 that God has made, 01:35 it's everywhere. 01:37 Today, I'm in a part of Mexico, 01:39 and I want to talk to you about the ocean, 01:41 but I don't want to just talk to you about the ocean there, 01:44 I want to go with you and get in the ocean 01:47 and talk about some of the stuff in the ocean. 01:50 You know, the ocean is a very mysterious place. 01:53 And I say mysterious 01:55 because scientists know very little 01:57 about what's going on out there, 01:58 a small percentage only, 02:00 but today, I want to talk to you 02:02 about one specific creature, 02:04 this is no ordinary creature though. 02:06 This is the largest fish in the ocean. 02:10 Do you know which one I'm talking about? 02:13 I'm talking about the whale shark. 02:16 What's the biggest fish in the ocean? 02:19 Whale shark! 02:20 That's right, a whale shark. 02:22 Come on, let's go. 02:28 Of course, we're not going to find any whale sharks 02:30 here on land, so that means we're going to have 02:32 to take a little boat ride. 02:34 So you're probably wondering, "Just how big are these fish?" 02:38 Well, the adults usually grow to about 30 feet long, 02:42 and the really big ones can grow up to 40 feet long. 02:45 That's about as big as a school bus. 02:47 How long can they grow? 02:49 Forty feet. 02:51 Yeah, about 40 feet. 02:53 Wow! That is one big fish. 02:56 Well, this is the place where we're going to take our boat, 02:59 and we got to go way out into the ocean. 03:01 You ready? Let's go. 03:15 Well, first of all, we have to take this boat out 03:18 about 25 miles into the ocean. 03:22 Since whale sharks are just swimming in the open sea, 03:25 we have to look around for them, 03:27 and that takes a while. 03:30 My family is with me today. 03:32 So we're very excited when we spot a whale shark 03:35 in the distance. 03:38 As we get closer, 03:39 the captain says, "Get ready to jump in." 03:44 As soon as we cross in front of the path of the whale shark, 03:47 the captain says, "Now." 03:57 The first thing we see is a four-foot wide mouth 04:00 swimming towards us. 04:03 This creature is huge. 04:06 And I love those spots. 04:12 When some people think of sharks, 04:14 they think of great whites or hammerheads, 04:17 but whale sharks are very different. 04:19 They feed mainly on plankton, tiny organisms 04:22 that are so small they are hard to see. 04:25 These tiny plankton can't swim against the water currents 04:29 so that means they just drift in the water, 04:31 and the whale shark just scoops it up in its mouth. 04:35 That means it's safe for us to get in 04:38 and swim around near the whale sharks. 04:41 What do whale sharks mostly like to eat? 04:44 Plankton! 04:45 That's right, plankton. 04:49 Look, Leo and Alex 04:51 are on either side of the whale shark 04:53 trying to keep up with it. 04:56 Of course, they have this nice, big, 04:58 powerful tailfin to help push its way through the water. 05:06 I'm trying to keep up with them too, 05:08 but they are such fast and strong swimmers. 05:11 I can only keep up with them for a minute or so. 05:22 As I mentioned, whale sharks have a big mouth, 05:25 and I don't mean that in a mean way. 05:27 For them, it's a good thing since they like tiny food, 05:32 that means they are filter feeders. 05:34 Most of the time, they just 05:36 open their mouth and swim forward. 05:38 What kind of feeders are they? 05:40 Filter feeders! 05:42 That's right, filter feeders. 05:44 It's a good thing God gave them such a nice, big mouth 05:48 to collect that tiny food. 05:58 You know, taking pictures is a great way to remember 06:01 the stuff that we have learned. 06:02 If you want to see my pictures, you can, 06:04 just go to our website at www.KidsTime4Jesus.org 06:10 and click on Nature Time. 06:12 Well, I have had a lot of fun 06:14 learning about whale sharks with you. 06:16 Remember, God is the Creator, nature is His masterpiece. 06:21 See you. 07:36 Welcome to Learning Time, I'm glad you joined us today, 07:40 and where are we? 07:41 Oshkosh, Wisconsin! 07:44 We're at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, 07:46 and we're at the International Pathfinder Camporee. 07:48 And are you all camping? Yeah! 07:52 Camping with about 45,000 other pathfinders 07:55 from all over the world, 07:57 and we're going to do some science experiments. 07:58 Are you ready? Yeah! 08:01 All right, we got some helpers. 08:02 I'm going to ask what your name is 08:04 and where are you from, so... 08:06 My name is Dakota, and I'm from Waycross, Georgia. 08:08 Wow! Thanks for coming. 08:10 My name is Abi, and I'm from Alpena, Michigan. 08:12 Wow, Michigan, wow! And...? 08:14 My name is Nathaniel, and I'm from Orange, Virginia. 08:17 Wow! They're from all over. 08:18 Now today, what we're going to do is science experiment, 08:21 which is very interesting because we're going to study 08:24 some spinning forces. 08:26 Now in order to do that, this is what we have. 08:29 We've got this little devices right here, 08:30 and they shoot this little tiny ring, 08:33 and it has some weight on the outside of it. 08:35 And we're going to ask them to shoot this little tiny ring 08:38 without spinning it, okay? 08:40 So it's not going to be spinning, 08:42 and we'll try to figure out how far it goes. 08:43 Once you put your safety glasses on, 08:45 we're going to use safety glasses 08:47 because we're using something and it has rubber bands. 08:49 And have you ever gotten hit by a rubber band? 08:51 Yeah! 08:52 Whoa, we don't want to get that in our face. 08:54 So what they're going to do is they're going to push this back 08:56 a little bit like this and stretch the rubber band out 08:59 and shoot it that way, so go ahead and grab it here, 09:03 and we have some helpers with these little cones. 09:06 They're going to mark 09:07 where the little thing went, okay? 09:08 And then you're going to run back here 09:10 and get out of the way because we'll do it again. 09:11 Okay, so are you ready? 09:13 Let's give him a countdown, three, two, one. 09:14 They're going to shoot it that direction. 09:16 Let's go, three... Three... 09:17 Two... Two... 09:18 One... One... 09:20 And fire them all, right there, 09:21 and, okay, go mark them, go mark them. 09:24 So we got one, two, three, cool, 09:26 hey, turn around right here and let's see 09:28 what else we're going to do. 09:29 Now, what we're going to do and since this experiment 09:31 is all about spinning forces, 09:34 we're going to make this little device spin, 09:36 and we're going to give it what we call 09:38 gyroscopic action or force. 09:41 Are you ready? 09:42 So go ahead and put those on, 09:43 put those on, just like that, right? 09:45 Just like that, put them right on there, 09:47 make sure they're right there. 09:48 Now in order to get them to spin 09:50 because that's what this lesson is about, 09:52 we're going to pull it back like this, 09:54 and then they're going to turn the wrist around 09:56 just about like that, 09:58 and that's going to give it some spin. 09:59 Are you ready? Yeah. 10:01 Now what we're going to do, we're going to do find out 10:02 if it goes farther. 10:03 Do you think they're going to go further? 10:05 Yeah! Wow! 10:06 Let's find out with that gyroscopic force, 10:08 so turn around, okay, spread out a little bit. 10:11 Okay, are we ready? 10:12 Okay, pull them back and get your twist in there 10:15 and how about a countdown? 10:17 Let's go, three... Three... 10:18 Two... Two... 10:19 One... One... 10:21 Now let her fly. Wow! 10:22 Look how far those things are gone. 10:24 That's interesting, isn't it? 10:26 Hey, turn it back around here. 10:27 You know, you can do this at home. 10:29 You can actually make these out of paper 10:30 and throw them with your hand. 10:32 Now that's interesting, isn't it? 10:33 Yeah. 10:35 Now what's the deal about gyroscopic forces? 10:37 Well, that first one that went without spinning, 10:40 they were kind of dancing around a little bit like this, 10:42 and they weren't very stable, but if we can get things 10:45 to spin, then they get very, very stable. 10:48 You know, that reminds me of something, what spins? 10:51 Can you think of anything that spins? 10:52 Our earth. Earth! 10:54 Now that's a good thing. We're spinning all the time. 10:56 You know, when God created the earth, 10:58 He created the earth to spin. 11:00 And that is a gyroscopic action or motion or force, 11:03 and that makes it that we live on a stable planet. 11:06 Are you glad you live on a stable planet? 11:08 Yeah! I am too. 11:09 And we use that force too with toys like this. 11:12 And we also use it like with our Frisbee, and it spins, 11:15 and it has that force. 11:17 When God created all the planets, 11:19 He created all of them to spin. 11:21 And when we learn more about science, 11:23 we learn more about our Creator, God. 11:33 Interesting little guy, isn't he? 11:35 Yeah! Not really. 11:37 What do you mean, Geo? 11:39 Don't you like this cute little fish? 11:41 Well, my uncle has some really big fish. 11:44 They even eat other fish. 11:45 Whoa! 11:47 This one just eats little... Flakes. 11:50 Well, and it's pretty stinky flakes, isn't it? 11:52 Yeah. 11:54 But you're right, Geo, God created all kinds of fish. 11:57 The one we have here is really small. 11:59 And there are some like your uncle has 12:01 that eat other fish for food. 12:05 Did you know that there are some fish that are so big, 12:08 they can swallow a man whole? 12:10 Really? Yes. That's right. 12:13 In fact, would you kids like to hear a story 12:15 about a fish like that? 12:16 Yes. 12:17 We love your stories, Miss Brenda? 12:19 Well, I like to tell you about this story 12:21 because it started a longtime ago in a city 12:24 by the name of Nineveh. 12:28 God was going to allow the city to be destroyed, 12:31 but He knew that if the people were given the opportunity 12:34 to learn about Him, they would repent 12:37 of their sinful ways and worship Him. 12:40 Because He loved the people so much, 12:42 God chose to reveal Himself through His servant. 12:47 Jonah. 12:49 Who is that? Is that You, Lord? 12:53 Jonah, arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, 12:59 and speak out against 13:01 the wickedness of the people there. 13:05 What? Me? 13:06 But I... 13:08 Jonah, go forth and trust in Me. 13:13 Yes, Lord. Yes, Lord. 13:15 I will, I will. 13:18 Oh, I must leave at once. I've been given a great task. 13:23 The many people of Nineveh must hear of the one true God. 13:29 They must change their wicked ways and... 13:33 Oh, dear, oh, dear, so many people to reach, 13:38 and to get to the city, it's so very far away, 13:41 at least a three days journey, 13:44 and I'm an Israelite. 13:47 Oh, the people of Nineveh will not be pleased 13:50 to have an Israelite in their midst. 13:52 Oh, what could possibly be gained, and it's just me. 13:56 A whole city can't be changed by just one man. 14:00 It's too big a task. It's just too much. 14:04 What am I to do? 14:20 Oh, God, why me? Why Nineveh? 14:40 Nineveh, just three days in this direction 14:45 or I could 14:48 go to Joppa, 14:52 maybe board a ship to Tarshish. 14:55 Yes, it's far away from that proud 14:57 and wicked city of Nineveh. 15:00 Yes, that's exactly what I'll do. 15:04 Don't tell me he really went the opposite direction. 15:07 Yes, he did, Delaine. 15:08 In fact, he fled to Joppa and boarded a ship to, 15:12 does anybody know where? 15:13 Tarshish! That's right. 15:15 You guys are smart. 15:16 Well, God was not happy that Jonah had disobeyed 15:20 and did not follow His command to warn the people of Nineveh. 15:25 In fact, He was very displeased. 15:30 Hurry, toss it over. All of them, captain? 15:33 Toss everything. 15:34 Come on, we don't want extra load. 15:36 One, two, three. 15:40 Could the storm like this can unfold. 15:42 In fact, right up the river. 15:45 They are angry, angry at us. 15:51 Someone on this boat has brought this wreck upon us. 15:55 Let them so repent. 15:57 Repent all of you for the sin that you brought upon now. 16:01 Repent now before we all go down beneath the sea. 16:06 Captain, stay there. 16:08 Over here. Throw in out too. 16:11 Can we get to work together? 16:13 Yeah, yeah, that's right. 16:15 Seems we got a storm. 16:17 Were you sleeping? 16:19 Yeah, I was sleeping down underneath. 16:22 Help! 16:24 How can we measure it up this storm? 16:27 While we're yelling and praying and ask for mercy. 16:33 What kind of man can brought storm like this. 16:37 My name is Jonah. Jonah, my name is Jonah. 16:42 Move. 16:45 I'm an Israelite, and well, 16:46 he didn't like the prophet avoiding God. 16:50 An Israelite? Yeah. 16:52 I heard of you people and your God. 16:55 Are you responsible for this? 16:57 Have you brought the anger of your God 16:59 and brought this storm upon us? 17:01 Well, it's a strong possibility. 17:04 What? 17:06 You see, God asked me to go into Nineveh, 17:08 but I disobeyed His way. 17:10 But I was too scared. He's a coward too. 17:13 I was just scared. Scared! 17:15 What do you mean scared? 17:16 It seems like man, you might as well tell us. 17:19 So I ran away. You ran away from what? 17:23 I ran away from my sacred duty. 17:25 He's talking too much. 17:27 What do we do with him? 17:29 Why don't we appease your God? 17:31 There's only one way. 17:33 You got to throw me over the water. 17:34 Oh, I agree with that. 17:35 Oh, I will agree with that. 17:38 Lord, I'm sorry. 17:42 Throw him over. Throw him over. 17:44 One, two, three. 17:46 Breath. 17:50 Captain, the priest calling. 17:54 Truly, his God is the real God. Yeah. 17:59 All right, get back to work. Put this up. 18:01 Get the sail back up. Get the sail back up. 18:03 What happened next, Miss Brenda? 18:05 Did he drown? 18:06 Well, kids, our God is a forgiving God, isn't He? 18:09 Yeah. 18:11 He is a loving God, and do you know what God did? 18:13 He prepared a great, big fish to swallow Jonah. 18:18 Whoa! 18:20 Yes, can you imagine? 18:22 Forgive me, Heavenly Father, for running away. 18:27 Here I am, now lost at sea in the belly of this fish. 18:31 Oh, God, Lord, God, I know it's what I deserve. 18:35 I know it. 18:39 You asked but one thing 18:41 to go before the people of Nineveh 18:43 to share Your message of love with them, 18:45 so they may be a granted an opportunity to learn of God, 18:51 to put away their evil deeds and worship only You. 18:55 I know, 18:58 if only I could make things right, 19:01 if given another chance, Lord, I would do as you ask, I would. 19:06 I would go into the city of Nineveh 19:09 and tell them about You, 19:12 about a God 19:17 who is forgiving, 19:20 who is full of love. 19:24 Oh, God, Lord, God, please, 19:28 please hear my prayers, 19:30 bring me to safety, Lord, 19:33 and I will see that Your will is done, please. 19:37 How did he ever get out of the belly of that fish? 19:40 Yeah, it must have been pretty stinky in there. 19:43 Oh, I think you're right, Geo and Delaine, God had a plan. 19:48 You see, Jonah prayed for three whole days 19:52 asking God to forgive him. 19:54 And God heard his prayer. 19:56 And He had the fish 19:57 to spit him up out onto the shore. 20:00 Can you imagine how excited he was to be free? 20:03 Yeah. 20:04 Well, he was so excited 20:05 and with his faith in God restored. 20:07 He went into the city of Nineveh, 20:10 and he told the people 20:11 that they should turn from their wicked ways 20:13 and follow God. 20:17 And so Jonah obeyed God. 20:19 And he went to the city of Nineveh, 20:21 and he pleaded with the people to turn from their wicked ways 20:25 and to accept God's gift of salvation. 20:28 Isn't that wonderful? 20:30 Yeah. Yes. 20:31 You see, God has a plan, boys and girls, 20:33 it's so important that we always obey God. 20:35 And we want to do what He wants us to do 20:37 the first time, right? 20:38 Yeah. That's right. 20:48 You know, kids, if Jonah would have just trusted God, 20:51 he wouldn't have been afraid, 20:53 he wouldn't have had any fear at all 20:54 when he went to Nineveh, 20:56 he could've gone there with confidence, right? 20:58 Yeah.
