00:01 It's almost time for "Kids' Time."
00:03 We're gonna be late.
00:04 It's time to share, there's a world out there
00:08 Looking for a friend like Jesus
00:11 It's time to share, there's a world out there
00:16 Let's tell them that He loves us so
00:24 Kids' time Kids' time Kids' time
00:28 Kids' time
00:31 Hi, boys and girls.
00:32 I want to tell you a story about a girl named Carla
00:35 who felt God called her to be a missionary
00:37 in a faraway country.
00:39 She had peace in her heart
00:41 because she knew she was going
00:42 where God wanted her to go.
00:44 What she didn't know was that God
00:46 had a special surprise for her in that faraway country.
00:49 She met a very nice young man
00:51 who was also there as a missionary
00:53 and they got married.
00:55 Today they have two children
00:56 and they even have a few grandchildren.
00:58 And Carla is very glad that she listened
01:01 when God called her to leave her home
01:03 and be a missionary.
01:05 God may call you to do something like that some day.
01:08 You may not meet your future husband or wife that way,
01:11 but I know God will have some wonderful surprises
01:14 in store for you if you go where He calls you to go.
01:18 In fact, you'll hear more about that in our Bible story today.
01:21 But first let's get ready for Nature Time.
01:32 Hi, boys and girls. Welcome to Nature Time.
01:35 Today we're on the beautiful island of Grand Cayman.
01:37 And we're at Queen Elizabeth II botanic park
01:40 at the Blue Iguana recovery program.
01:42 And I'm with expert Alberto
01:44 and he is an expert on these blue iguanas.
01:47 They are awesome. How are you doing today?
01:49 Very good, very good, excellent.
01:51 You've got a blue iguana on your lap.
01:53 And do you have names for these iguanas?
01:55 This one is Peter. Peter. And how old is Peter?
01:58 Peter is around 6-61/2 years old.
02:00 And how old do these iguanas live?
02:02 Around 70 years. 70 years old.
02:05 So this is just a little one? This is a little baby.
02:07 Boy, kids, I tell you, for 6 years old,
02:09 this little Peter is minded pretty well, huh?
02:13 Now I see cages in the background.
02:15 What are they all for?
02:17 Okay, this is a breeding facility. Okay.
02:19 Eventually every one is gonna be released into the wild.
02:22 These cages that you see in the back here
02:25 are the ones that are going to be released this year. Okay.
02:29 In fact, next month,
02:31 I would say that they will be released into the wild.
02:32 And how many are there back there
02:34 that you're gonna release?
02:36 Between 115 and 126.
02:38 Has-blue Iguanas, are they from all over?
02:42 No, no, this blue iguana is found only in Grand Cayman.
02:46 No other place on the earth. Only in Grand Cayman? Wow.
02:48 Now have these always-
02:50 have there always been a lot of blue iguanas?
02:52 I know there's a lot of different kinds,
02:53 but what about the blue iguana?
02:55 Tell me a little bit about it.
02:56 Okay, before humans came here,
02:58 there were a lot of them in the island.
03:00 Okay. But since humans are here now
03:03 with dogs, cats, and other things,
03:08 we did a count around 12 years ago
03:11 and there were less then 20 in the wild.
03:15 This is one of the reason we have this program
03:17 and this is a breeding facility.
03:20 And the cages you see in the back are the ones
03:25 that are going to be release this year.
03:28 So they are in cages not to put these in cages
03:32 but to protect them, so you can let them out,
03:34 so that this is not in an endangered species?
03:37 Well, what- let me ask you a question.
03:38 How many of them are out right now?
03:40 With this year release,
03:42 we're going to have more- over 600.
03:48 Six hundred, kids, isn't that amazing?
03:50 From 12 all the way up to 600.
03:52 Now do you have a goal?
03:53 I mean, how many do you want around these islands?
03:55 Our goal is a thousand, or a little over a thousand,
03:58 so it would take us out of the list.
04:02 Wow, kids, from 20 to 600 and your goal is 1000?
04:07 That's right. That is amazing.
04:08 Now is this as large as iguanas get the blue iguana?
04:11 No, they get a lot larger, probably 41/2 foot,
04:18 and 9 kilos to 10 kilos. That's amazing. 9 kilos.
04:22 Now if a male gets that big,
04:24 do they like being in cooped up places or do they need space?
04:27 No, no. They are- a dominant male controls
04:31 an area of 15 to 20 acres.
04:34 Can you imagine that, kids, 15 to 20 acres?
04:36 That's a big space. And why is that?
04:38 They just, they like to roam around?
04:40 They're roaming animals? They're very territorial.
04:42 They control their own space.
04:43 They try to, you know, get as many females...
04:49 As they can. That they can.
04:50 So they don't mind a bunch of females around,
04:52 they just-not another male? Not another male.
04:55 Wow, so I know is that when I was looking at this,
05:01 that some of the skin was shedding.
05:02 So do they shed how often?
05:04 I would say two to three times a year.
05:06 Oh, they shed two to three times a year.
05:08 Yeah. Wow, that is amazing.
05:10 Especially the female after breeding season,
05:14 she does a lot of shedding.
05:15 Does a lot of shedding.
05:17 Alberto, thank you so much for being with us today.
05:19 Kids, wasn't that exciting, learning about blue iguanas?
05:23 Never forget, nature is God's second book.
05:26 Get out there and take look.
05:27 Alberto, I want to see one of those great big iguanas.
05:30 Okay. Let's go. Let's go. Okay.
06:16 It's learning time!
06:18 Hey, thanks for joining us today.
06:20 I'm glad that you're with us.
06:21 I've got a special question for you.
06:23 Do you like music? Yes!
06:26 Well, today it's all about sounds
06:28 and frequencies of sounds.
06:29 And I'm gonna need some helpers.
06:31 I've got Matthew over here.
06:32 Matthew, do you play an instrument? Yes.
06:34 Well, what do you play? Piano. A piano.
06:37 Hey, that's a nice instrument.
06:39 And then we've got Sarah.
06:41 Now, Sarah, what's the very favorite place
06:44 you like to go to visit?
06:46 Florida, and see my grandma.
06:47 Oh, that's cool, isn't it?
06:49 And we have Ann Marie over here.
06:50 Now, Ann Marie, do you have a hobby that you like to do?
06:54 I like to draw. Draw. Drawing is fun.
06:57 Hey, let's get our helpers over here.
06:59 Let's see what we've got over here.
07:00 First of all, what are we gonna put on?
07:03 Safety glasses! Okay, here we go.
07:05 Why don't you take a pair? And you take a pair.
07:07 Let's put our safety glasses on
07:08 'cause you know what we're gonna do,
07:10 we're gonna use some things that are very interesting.
07:12 And, yeah, you can just stand over here.
07:13 Check this out. Can you see that?
07:15 What is this stuff?
07:16 It's actually cornstarch in water.
07:20 Now you can make this at home and it's really,
07:21 kind of, fun to play with.
07:23 And if I put my fingers in there real quick
07:24 like that and just jab it in there
07:26 they don't go inside.
07:27 Here, check that out. Can you do that?
07:29 Just put them real quick, just like, like that,
07:30 there you go. Okay, all right, now, okay.
07:32 Now what I want you do is, kind of,
07:34 just hold your finger in there and see what happens.
07:37 What does it do? What does it do?
07:39 What's going on? The fingers sink.
07:41 They are sinking in there, they are sinking in.
07:43 If you jab it real quick it just-
07:46 it's like hard and your fingers don't go in.
07:48 But if you hold your fingers there, what happens?
07:51 They sink. Okay, here well, here's a paper towel for you.
07:54 Oh, okay, here you might want to dry your hand off right here.
07:57 And here's one for you.
07:59 Okay, let's get one for you right here.
08:00 Now that's what we call cornstarch in water.
08:03 It's really fun to do.
08:05 Well, hey, what do we gonna use this for?
08:06 Well, we could play with it and that's always fun.
08:08 But what I'm gonna do today is I have a speaker right here.
08:11 This is an audio speaker, like you have in a radio
08:14 or television or whatever you've got.
08:17 We have to vibrate the sounds, we have to vibrate the air.
08:21 Now, what I'm gonna do here is
08:22 I put some of that cornstarchy stuff
08:25 right in my speaker right here.
08:26 And we're gonna set up some different frequencies of sound
08:29 and it's going to vibrate that cornstarch and water.
08:34 And it will vibrate it through different frequencies.
08:36 So here, let's check it out. Let's get our little-
08:38 actually, have a tone generator right here.
08:41 And let's put some different patterns...
08:44 Now, that is a very, very low frequency.
08:46 A lot of people can't hear that sound,
08:48 but what's happening to- yeah, you can move up
08:51 a little closer, check it out.
08:53 Can you see it vibrating? Yes.
08:55 Look at that it's vibrating, it's making different patterns.
08:58 Now I'm going to go a little higher frequency.
09:00 Let's go a little higher frequency.
09:03 Then we'll go up even higher and higher.
09:05 And it vibrates.
09:06 And now we're gonna come way back
09:08 down to that frequency right there.
09:10 And let's go ahead and turn the volume up.
09:12 And we're going to get some very,
09:15 very interesting things happening.
09:17 I'm gonna take and just kind of disturb
09:19 that a little bit with my finger.
09:24 What's going on? Whoa, look at that.
09:30 Look at that, look at that.
09:34 Whoa, did you see that?
09:37 Look at that. It looks like it's alive, doesn't it?
09:41 Ah, that's interesting. Oh, my goodness.
09:45 Now we're gonna slow it down a little bit,
09:47 we're gonna slow it down to some lower,
09:50 lower, and lower frequencies.
09:53 Well, isn't that interesting? I mean, isn't that interesting?
09:59 But, you know, there are some sounds
10:01 that you and I can't hear with our ears.
10:03 And by the way, how many of you
10:04 have cats and dogs at home?
10:07 Well, you know, certain animals can hear
10:09 frequencies that we cannot hear.
10:11 Do you know that a little house cat can hear
10:14 a little mouse walking on your carpet?
10:17 Can you hear a mouse walking on your carpet?
10:19 No. I can't hear that.
10:21 But God created certain animals' ears
10:23 to hear very low frequency sounds
10:25 and then some sounds are so high frequency,
10:27 we can't hear it but some animals can.
10:30 Like a dog. Have you ever heard your dog
10:31 just barking, barking, barking
10:33 and you can't hear any sounds yourself?
10:35 Has that ever happened to you? Yes.
10:37 That's because certain high frequencies
10:39 bother their ears and that's why
10:40 they are good watch dogs
10:41 or that's why they're good watch cats.
10:43 How about that? Well, you know what?
10:45 God created those animals to hear different frequencies.
10:49 But you know what?
10:50 We can hear the frequency that God wants us to hear
10:53 and then when He talks to our hearts,
10:55 He talks to our minds.
10:57 And He wants to come into us.
10:59 And I think that is so cool, don't you?
11:01 Yes. Well, to be tuned into God's frequency.
11:05 Well, every time we learn something new
11:08 and interesting about science,
11:10 we learn more about our creator, God.
11:23 I am very excited about this year's barley harvest.
11:27 Why is that? As you can see, profits are up 30%.
11:30 I've cut costs, paid off all my debt.
11:33 It's a good year for me so far.
11:35 Oh, awesome. Oh, this is gonna be
11:37 a great year in Bethlehem for a celebration.
11:40 Indeed. Oh, excuse me. Naomi?
11:46 Mecca! My dear friend Mecca.
11:50 But call me Naomi no longer,
11:53 for I have been dealt very bitterly with.
11:56 My dear husband Elimelech. Yes.
11:59 He has died. Oh.
12:01 And my sons Mahlon and Chilion are both dead.
12:07 I left here full and I have returned empty.
12:12 Oh. Mother, I will never leave you.
12:15 You won't be alone. Oh, who is this?
12:19 This is my dear daughter-in-law Ruth.
12:23 She has come with me.
12:25 You left the land of Moab to come here,
12:29 to Israel, to Bethlehem?
12:31 Yes, for Naomi's people are now my people
12:35 and her God is my God.
12:36 Did you hear that? Wonderful.
12:39 She is part of us. Welcome, welcome, Ruth.
12:43 Thank you, thank you.
12:46 You will have a lot to do to get settled.
12:48 I'm gonna come and help you
12:50 because no one has been
12:51 near your home since you left.
12:53 Oh, Mecca, you are so such a dear friend, thank you.
12:59 Come with me. Let's go to our new home, dear.
13:01 But there is a lot that is happened in Bethlehem
13:03 since you have been here. Oh, what has happened?
13:14 Oh. I better shut the door. No, leave it open.
13:19 Yeah, leave it open so we can have a little bit of light.
13:23 Oh, look at this.
13:26 Oh, it does look like it's been many years.
13:29 Oh, but it brings back so many memories,
13:35 wonderful memories.
13:38 Elimelech built this house with his own hands.
13:41 In fact, he was gonna add on to it,
13:45 make it larger so the boys would have more room to play.
13:48 I remember how much they loved this place.
13:51 Mahlon use to tell me all about his childhood home
13:54 and-I always wanted to see it,
13:56 because it's so much different from the ones we have in Moab.
14:00 Oh, dear, it looked a whole lot better
14:03 back then than it does now.
14:05 Well, we'll get it fixed up.
14:07 It'll look like a home in no time.
14:10 How are we gonna do that? We have no money.
14:14 We have-we don't even have money for food.
14:18 Here's some supper for you.
14:21 Mecca, you have just remained the best friend.
14:25 I'm just glad to have you back in Bethlehem, Naomi.
14:28 You know, it is good to be back
14:31 but how are we gonna make a living here?
14:35 I have an idea. I have an idea.
14:38 When we arrived in Bethlehem,
14:40 I saw that they were harvesting barley in the fields.
14:43 Yes. Is it permitted for people to glean after the reapers?
14:48 Well, they always used to.
14:50 Mecca, do they still allow that?
14:52 Oh, yes. In fact, it's encouraged.
14:54 Well, Mother, let me go.
14:56 Perhaps I'll find favor in someone's eyes
14:58 and they'll let me glean in their fields.
15:00 Oh, you are so good to me.
15:03 Oh, but you're gonna need a basket. Okay.
15:06 Now when we left, we couldn't take everything
15:09 and I left a basket.
15:11 Let me see, where did I leave-
15:12 Well, I don't think this one is gonna work.
15:13 Oh, wait, wait, wait. I think I know where I left it.
15:16 Well, find one somewhere.
15:17 Oh, look, look it's here, its right here.
15:21 Naomi always did have a good memory.
15:23 Well, take it. It's dusty, but here.
15:27 I'll take at once. There, use that.
15:28 I'll go and I'll be back
15:30 as soon as I can and we'll have food.
15:32 Oh, bless you, my daughter, bless you.
15:36 God has blessed you with a wonderful daughter-in-law.
15:41 God is good. He is good. Oh, Mecca.
15:47 We have work to do. Come on, let's get busy.
15:50 Oh, what would I do with you? It won't take us long.
15:54 Well, we don't need this anymore.
16:04 Hello, may I work here with you? Sure.
16:07 There's plenty enough for all of us.
16:09 Thank you.
16:10 I've never seen you here before. Who are you?
16:13 My name is Ruth,
16:14 I'm the daughter-in-law of Naomi, Elimelech's wife.
16:17 We just came here afrom Moab.
16:20 You see, Elimelech died and so did my husband
16:23 and my brother-in-law.
16:25 So we decided to come here to Bethlehem
16:28 because we heard that there was bread again.
16:30 How come you didn't stay in your father's house and remarry?
16:32 I know, Naomi made you come. No, she didn't.
16:36 I came here by choice. I love Naomi and I promised
16:40 that I would take care of her all the days of my life.
16:43 Better you than me.
16:45 I wouldn't want to take care of my mother-in-law.
16:49 Look, there's Boaz, the owner of the field.
16:52 He's really rich.
16:57 Quite handsome, too.
16:59 Oh, whose young woman is that?
17:02 That's Ruth, Naomi's daughter-in-law.
17:05 Oh.
17:14 Good day, Ruth.
17:15 I'm Boaz, the owner of the field.
17:18 You are truly blessed among women.
17:21 I've heard how you've taken care of your mother-in-law
17:24 since the death of your husband.
17:26 And also how you've been willing to leave
17:28 your mother and your father
17:30 and come live here in Israel amongst the people
17:33 that you do not know.
17:36 Please, feel free to glean from my field
17:39 until the harvest comes.
17:41 Make sure you stay next to the servant girls
17:43 for your own protection.
17:45 And if you become thirsty,
17:47 please drink from the jars of water
17:49 that the men have drawn.
17:54 Allow me to give you some grain to take back to Naomi.
18:02 Thank you.
18:05 And you have been most gracious to me even though
18:08 I'm not one of your servants.
18:10 Please, go back to Naomi now and may God be with you.
18:14 Thank you, sir. Thank you.
18:25 Wow, did you see that? Yes.
18:27 Boaz was quite taken.
18:29 I've never seen him act like that before.
18:31 Yeah.
18:35 Mother, mother, I'm back.
18:37 Oh, my God. Where did you get all this?
18:40 Let me explain.
18:41 I was gleaning in the fields, okay?
18:43 And I was gleaning there and all of a sudden
18:45 this man named Boaz came and gave me all of this
18:48 and told me to give it to you.
18:49 Did you say Boaz? Yes.
18:52 Boaz is one of Elimelech's next of kin.
18:56 Really? Yes.
18:59 He was always so kind and so generous.
19:03 And he spoke very kindly to me.
19:05 And I can he's still generous.
19:07 Oh, Ruth, do you know what this means?
19:11 What? You could be Boaz's wife.
19:17 His wife? Me?
19:20 Yes, God has a special plan for your life, Ruth.
19:28 Well, I trust God's perfect plan.
19:31 I knew you would. Now, come let's eat.
19:34 Okay. Mecca left us supper and tell me more about your day.
19:38 Oh, I have so much to tell you.
19:40 I was gleaning there and Boaz was very, very nice
19:43 and he let me work by them and all of a sudden,
19:46 Boaz just came out there and telling me
19:48 I was blessed among women.
20:00 Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go
20:05 Anywhere He leads me in this world below
20:10 Anywhere without Him dearest joys would fade
20:15 Anywhere with Jesus I am not afraid
20:20 Anywhere, anywhere, fear I cannot know
20:26 Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go
20:31 Anywhere with Jesus I am not alone
20:36 Other friends may fail me, He is still my own
20:41 Though His hand may lead me over dreary ways
20:46 Anywhere with Jesus is a house of praise
20:52 Anywhere with Jesus I can go to sleep
20:58 When the gloomy shadows round about me creep
21:03 Knowing I shall wake and never more to roam
21:08 Anywhere with Jesus will be home, sweet home
21:13 Anywhere, anywhere, fear I cannot know
21:19 Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go
21:39 Hi, boys and girls.
21:40 It's time for Miss Brenda's Book of the Day.
21:43 And today's book is called "Prayer Promises for Kids."
21:47 Guess who it's by?
21:49 That's right, Miss Brenda
21:51 and my good friend Dr. Kay Kuzma and I got together
21:54 and we wrote this book to help you boys and girls
21:57 learn how to pray claiming Bible promises.
22:00 It's an incredible book that is filled with over
22:02 a hundred different things
22:03 that you would want to pray about.
22:05 Maybe it's-you're afraid of the dark or maybe there
22:08 are some bullies or maybe you having trouble
22:10 with your homework or making new friends.
22:14 There is all kinds of things in here
22:17 that you can go to the Lord and pray about
22:19 and claim a Bible promise to help you with that need.
22:22 Now there are many, many promises in the Bible.
22:26 And did you know God put those promises
22:28 in the Bible for a reason. They are there for us to claim.
22:31 And so, boys and girls, I want you to really-
22:34 when you talk with Jesus, go to the Bible,
22:37 claim those promises when you're praying
22:39 and you'll have a closer walk with Jesus.
22:41 Well, I want to share some letters with you today.
22:44 I love getting letters from you, boys and girls.
22:47 And I've had some pretty funny ones,
22:49 I've had some good heart touching ones,
22:51 and I've had some really inspiring ones
22:53 when I hear what you're doing to share Jesus.
22:56 And let's look and see what some of those letters say today.
23:00 I wish I had time to read all of them to you,
23:02 but of course I don't.
23:03 But let's see- well, there is one right here
23:06 and it's from Ontario, Canada.
23:10 And let's see what you have to say.
23:13 And it's from Josie.
23:14 And, Josie, you've sent me a picture.
23:16 And I especially love getting the pictures, too,
23:18 because I like to see what you look like.
23:21 This one says, "Dear, Miss Brenda,
23:23 my name is Josie and I am 8 years old
23:27 and I love to watch Kids Time on TV.
23:30 And I like to be kind and polite to everyone."
23:34 It said, "I know that I would like to be
23:36 a member of your Kids club please.
23:38 Would you please send me an activity book
23:41 and also one for my brother Jordan.
23:44 I like to share Jesus by making bookmarks
23:47 and giving them to people everywhere I go.
23:50 Love, Josie." Well, Josie, actually,
23:52 you know, making bookmarks
23:54 and giving them away is a wonderful way
23:56 to witness for Jesus.
23:57 And in fact, if you go to my website brendawalsh.com,
24:01 you can click on bookmarks and there is directions on
24:05 how to make bookmarks.
24:07 And it's a wonderful way to witness.
24:08 When you give a bookmark to someone, guess what,
24:11 you're telling that person,
24:13 first of all, that you care about them.
24:14 You're giving them a gift.
24:15 And second of all, when you make a nice bookmark
24:18 with a good scripture on it,
24:20 it tells them that you're a Christian.
24:22 And it's a wonderful way to witness for Jesus.
24:24 So think about that. You might want to go.
24:26 It's just brendawalsh.com and then click on bookmarks
24:29 and there is all the directions that you will need
24:32 and you can have your mom or dad or an adult
24:34 help you with that, okay? All right, let's see-
24:37 let's grab a letter from over here.
24:39 And I haven't really reread-
24:41 pre-read this letters, boys and girls,
24:43 so you're just hearing them at the same time I am here.
24:46 This one here is from Etowah, Tennessee.
24:50 And it says "Dear Miss Brenda,
24:53 I really want to say how much I enjoyed your Bible lessons.
24:57 I signed up for them and I knew the first time
25:00 that I saw Kids Time that I'd like to do the lessons
25:02 and I took the lessons and I have your certificate.
25:06 And now I share Jesus by signing up kids for Kids' club."
25:10 And then she now lists me
25:12 a whole lot of names of addresses
25:14 that she wants me to send them to.
25:15 And she says "And I'm going to keep
25:17 getting more kids to sign up for Kids' club lessons.
25:20 Your friend, Asia Lene."
25:22 Well, Asia Lene, that is a wonderful way to witness,
25:25 is to sign up your friends.
25:27 Boys and girls, why don't you do that, too?
25:29 You can sign up as many kids as you want and they can start
25:33 receiving the Bible lessons.
25:34 And that's a wonderful way to witness.
25:36 Now we have a letter here from Germany.
25:39 Let's see what we've got going on here from Germany.
25:42 And-oh, a nice pretty picture she drew me as well.
25:46 And, oh, look here, I've got a big picture
25:51 that she printed off and gave to me.
25:53 It says, "Dear Miss Brenda." It said, "I'm 7 years old.
25:56 I like telling people about God in my school in Germany.
26:00 We have a Bible class and I like your show a lot.
26:03 Will you please send me an activity book?
26:05 And I share Jesus by telling them
26:08 that Jesus loves them to everyone I meet.
26:10 Love, Jaden."
26:12 And then Jaden also she drew a little picture down here,
26:15 isn't that sweet? I love that.
26:18 Well, thank you, so much, Jaden.
26:19 Thank you, boys and girls, for all your cards and letters.
26:22 Keep sending them, okay?
26:24 Well, until next time, remember wherever you go,
26:26 whatever you do, it's "Kids Time" to share Jesus.
