It's a ship. 00:01:59.69\00:02:01.06 In fact, it's about 250 feet long. 00:02:01.09\00:02:02.89 It was sunk in January here. 00:02:02.92\00:02:05.02 And many people like to dive on wrecks and so we added 00:02:05.05\00:02:07.63 it to our repertoire of dive sites here in Cayman Islands. 00:02:07.66\00:02:10.58 And it's become a fantastic dive site. 00:02:10.61\00:02:13.16 And you're going to show me what when we're down there? 00:02:13.19\00:02:15.67 Well, over a period of time, 00:02:15.70\00:02:17.73 wrecks get colonized by marine life. 00:02:17.76\00:02:19.79 And it starts out with algal growth 00:02:19.82\00:02:21.66 and then fish start to feed on the algae. 00:02:21.69\00:02:23.57 Bigger fish start to feed on the fish and gradually, 00:02:23.60\00:02:26.13 you got a whole new marine ecosystem 00:02:26.16\00:02:28.10 evolving on this one site. 00:02:28.13\00:02:29.72 And it's very exciting to watch it happen. 00:02:29.75\00:02:31.28 I can't wait, let's get started. 00:02:31.31\00:02:32.76 You ready kids? Wow. 00:04:45.95\00:04:47.33 It's an Ex-U.S Navy submarine rescue vessel. 00:04:47.36\00:04:50.26 Yeah, and it said-- I saw a sign 00:04:50.29\00:04:52.11 that said US something or other on it so-- 00:04:52.14\00:04:54.09 Yes, that's Kittiwake, was the name. 00:04:54.12\00:04:55.61 Okay. That's what it was. 00:04:55.64\00:04:57.17 And then how deep did we go down there? 00:04:57.20\00:04:59.16 We went right to the bottom at 60 feet 00:04:59.19\00:05:00.85 which is a comfortable dive and as you saw, 00:05:00.88\00:05:02.75 lots of people are snorkeling too. 00:05:02.78\00:05:04.15 So it's great for the kids. 00:05:04.18\00:05:05.60 This is a great sight for the kids 00:05:05.63\00:05:07.00 because they can interact with the wreck 00:05:07.03\00:05:08.40 just as we can down below. 00:05:08.43\00:05:09.82 It was great and at the very back end of the ship, 00:05:09.85\00:05:11.97 I got to stand by that propeller. 00:05:12.00\00:05:13.48 That was a huge propeller down there. 00:05:13.51\00:05:15.56 Can you imagine the amount of--thousands of miles 00:05:15.59\00:05:17.75 that ship has done on that prop? 00:05:17.78\00:05:19.21 It must have done a lot and then also I noticed 00:05:19.24\00:05:21.17 that one of the engines that were down, that was like a V12. 00:05:21.20\00:05:24.37 The pistons were dead but the top was off, so. 00:05:24.40\00:05:26.78 Was it only one engine that made that ship go? 00:05:26.81\00:05:29.38 Do you know or some other one? 00:05:29.41\00:05:30.78 I don't know about the details of it 00:05:30.81\00:05:32.18 but they take most of that stuff out to clean the ship. 00:05:32.21\00:05:33.85 This ship is the cleanest wreck in the Western Atlantic. 00:05:33.88\00:05:36.11 It was beautiful. 00:05:36.14\00:05:37.51 I just couldn't--I can't imagine, it was fantastic. 00:05:37.54\00:05:40.15 Now the one fish that I saw, 00:05:40.18\00:05:42.16 the biggest one that was down there 00:05:42.19\00:05:43.56 that was some kind of a snapper? 00:05:43.59\00:05:44.96 Yeah, there were two big snappers there. 00:05:44.99\00:05:46.36 One is a dog snapper 00:05:46.39\00:05:47.76 which is a reef fish and a cubera snapper. 00:05:47.79\00:05:49.27 And they're both top reef predators 00:05:49.30\00:05:51.03 and they'll be looking out for those little herbivores 00:05:51.06\00:05:52.76 I was telling about earlier. 00:05:52.79\00:05:54.16 And they take advantage of the feeding opportunity 00:05:54.19\00:05:55.89 and they snag one every so often. 00:05:55.92\00:05:57.89 Now, there was some others--some jackfish or something and-- 00:05:57.92\00:06:00.54 Lots of jacks.
